drmm_connector_init() and drmm_encoder_init() register their cleanup
(drm_connector_cleanup() / drm_encoder_cleanup()) as DRM-managed actions
tied to the drm_device lifetime. When the object memory is owned by
KUnit, it is freed before that action runs, so the cleanup touches freed
memory. Allocate these objects with drmm_kzalloc() so their lifetime
matches the cleanup action.

The connector exposed a single force_yuv420_output boolean debugfs and
carried force_yuv420_output / force_yuv422_output boolean fields to force a
chroma encoding. This cannot express "force RGB" or "force YCbCr444", and
diverges from the upstream amdgpu_dm which uses a single
force_yuv_pixel_format field keyed on enum dc_pixel_encoding.
[How]
- Replace the two boolean fields with a single uint8_t
force_yuv_pixel_format holding an enum dc_pixel_encoding value
(PIXEL_ENCODING_UNDEFINED == no override).
- Replace the force_yuv420_output boolean debugfs with a read/write
force_yuv_pixel_format file that takes the encoding directly
(1=RGB, 2=YCbCr422, 3=YCbCr444, 4=YCbCr420), validated against
PIXEL_ENCODING_COUNT.
- Convert the existing readers/writers in amdgpu_dm_connector.c to the
new field, preserving current behaviour.

[Why]
amdgpu_dm_create_validate_stream_for_sink() drove its RGB -> YUV422 ->
YUV420 chroma fallback by recursing and toggling the shared
aconnector->force_yuv420_output / force_yuv422_output fields, resetting
them after each recursive call. Those fields have no locking and the
function runs concurrently on the same connector from two paths: the
connector probe worker (->mode_valid) and a compositor's atomic check
(dm_update_crtc_state). When both run at once, one thread can clear the
override just before the other tests its exit condition, so the exit is
missed and validation loops indefinitely, hanging the modeset path.
[How]
- Replace the recursion with an explicit loop over the chroma encodings
wrapping the existing bpc walk.
- Carry the encoding/bpc selection on the stack, passed by value into
create_stream_for_sink() / fill_stream_properties_from_drm_display_mode(),
instead of mutating shared connector state.
- Derive the supported encodings and bit depths into bitmaps and drive
validation from them, gating each candidate on the sink's advertised
capability so unsupported encodings are never retried.
- Move encoding selection entirely to the caller and pass the chosen
dc_pixel_encoding into fill_stream_properties_from_drm_display_mode().

[Why]
The seamless mode switch was not getting triggered during HDR to SDR
transitions, and no DPCD write was observed. Root cause analysis
revealed that incorrect panel capabilities were being reported for PSR
SU panels. Due to the wrong capabilities, the OS was not invoking the
seamless mode switch API, resulting in no DPCD communication and also
gated eDP teardown across the seamless mode switch hold.
[How]
Fixed by setting the correct power panel capabilities for PSR SU panels.
This ensures the OS receives accurate panel capability information and
triggers the seamless mode switch API as expected, restoring proper
DPCD writes during HDR to SDR transitions.

hdmi_frl_status_polling_work() skipped any link whose connector_signal

were operating in FRL mode were skipped and their status flags never got

[How]
Use frl_link_settings.frl_link_rate to decide whether a link is running

Replace the simple exact-match loop in emit_clk_levels with a call
to smu_v14_0_0_find_clk_level() introduced in patch 1. The helper
already handles both exact and closest-match semantics.
Build a stack-local frequency table from the DPM levels (using
reverse index for SMU_MCLK since MemPstateTable stores levels
high-to-low), then call the helper once to find the active level.
The SMU reports time-filtered average frequencies that often do not
match any DPM table entry exactly. Without closest-match fallback,
MCLK, FCLK and other clocks show DPM levels but never display the

- One value per controller cannot preserve independent AC and DC requests.
- Suspend-only restore misses runtime resume, GPU reset, and table reload.
Refactor policy storage and restore as follows:
- Store values and validity masks by power source and PPT controller.
- Save writes against the active source.
- Restore the active source after default SMU setup.

- Use the target source default when no explicit request exists.

amdgpu_userq_input_va_validate() converts expected_size to page count
with a plain right shift. For expected_size smaller than one GPU page,
the computed size becomes 0 and the range check is effectively bypassed.
This allows sub-page userq buffers (e.g. EOP/CSA) to pass validation
as long as the start VA is mapped, without verifying the full span.
Fix it by rejecting zero expected_size, checking overflow when

The scalar PPT model has several structural limitations:
- Controller identity, power source, capability, and PMFW state share
the same fields.
- Combined callbacks cannot address PPT0 and PPT1 independently.
- Cached current limits can become stale after PMFW reset.
Refactor the model around these rules:
- Index ranges by AC/DC source and PPT0/PPT1 controller.
- Store normal and overdrive capabilities separately.
- Pass the controller to get and set callbacks.
- Keep slow and fast names as semantic aliases.
Assign each value to a single owner:
- PPTable or platform initialization supplies constant capabilities.
- PMFW supplies runtime state.
- Common code selects the active source and overdrive range.
Van Gogh defaults are initialized once, while firmware without PPT query
support remains usable. Capable SMU 13.0.6 and SMU 15.0.8 platforms

[Why]
We need to exit PSR/IPS before programming. Before calling DC for
programming in amdgpu_dm_commit_planes(), there's a
vblank_control_workqueue flush. This waits for IPS and PSR exit. (See
drm_vblank_on/off() > amdgpu_dm_crtc_set_vblank() --queue_work()->
amdgpu_dm_crtc_vblank_control_worker())
Prior to the tagged "Fixes:" change, drm_vblank_get() was called before
the workqueue flush. This ordering ensures that PSR exit occurred before
programming. After the "Fixes:" change, drm_vblank_get() is called after
the workqueue flush, leading to programming while idle optimizations are
still active. This can lead to incorrect flip_pending detection used by
vblank event delivery.
[How]
Split the vblank_get() component of `dm_arm_vblank_event()` into
`dm_arm_vblank_event_pre_programming()`, which is called before
programming. Call it before the vblank_control_workqueue flush.
Includes a drive-by cleanup of prepare_flip_isr(): the only caller is
dm_arm_vblank_event() and it's simple enough to roll-in.

the user to manually reset the computer when there
was a hang.
* On Hawaii and Bonaire, the current GPU recovery method
always clears the contents of VRAM, which means that
a buggy (hanging) app can crash the whole graphical
session, which is less than ideal.
Using GFX IP block soft reset means that we can now
have a working recovery on GFX7 APUs and we can also
move on from GFX hangs on dGPUs without crashing the
whole system.
Tested with the "hard_reset_cp_wait" test case from the
Hang Test Suite created by Natalie Vock and Konstantin Seurer.
This Vulkan testcase waits for an event that never occurs,
effectively a WAIT_REG_MEM packet that intentionally hangs.
IP block soft reset can resolve that hang and allow
the rest of the system to move on and keep functioning
without needing a full ASIC reset.
Tested on the following chips:
Bonaire (Radeon HD 7790)
Hawaii (Radeon R9 390X)
Kaveri (A10-7850K)

This is useful for GPU recovery because it can help reduce

The reason why this packet is emitted is basically to

[Why]
We need to exit PSR/IPS before programming. Before calling DC for
programming in amdgpu_dm_commit_planes(), there's a
vblank_control_workqueue flush. This waits for IPS and PSR exit. (See
drm_vblank_on/off() > amdgpu_dm_crtc_set_vblank() --queue_work()->
amdgpu_dm_crtc_vblank_control_worker())
[How]
Split the vblank_get() component of `dm_arm_vblank_event()` into
`dm_arm_vblank_event_pre_programming()`, which is called before
programming. Call it before the vblank_control_workqueue flush.
Includes a drive-by cleanup of prepare_flip_isr(): the only caller is
dm_arm_vblank_event() and it's simple enough to roll-in.

initialized only later in calc_pll_max_vco_construct(). Therefore, any
output using DC_LOG_SYNC() leads to a NULL pointer deference in
get_ss_info_from_atombios().
According to Sashiko, the very same problem exists in

To avoid accessing the NULL context, use clk_src->base.ctx->logger

On APUs, the GTT pool is backed by system RAM, but its size is not bound
to the non-carveout memory that actually backs it. A user can end up
with GTT + VRAM exceeding total physical memory through the following
sequence:
- Have a large non-carveout memory space (~128GB) and accordingly set a
large GTT (~100GB) via the ttm module parameter.
- Lower the non-carveout memory space in BIOS by increasing the UMA
Frame Buffer Size (VRAM) to 64GB.
- The previously set GTT value (~100GB) persists, even though the new
non-carveout space (64GB) can no longer back it.
This leads to a case where kernel reports GTT (100GB) + VRAM (64GB)
despite the sum being greater than total physical memory (128GB).
Cap the GTT size to totalram_pages() on APUs. totalram_pages() already
excludes the VRAM carveout, so the resulting GTT can never exceed the
system RAM that actually backs it.

GPU average and input power backends report a mix of whole watts,
milliwatts, Q24.8 watts and decimal-packed fractions. Q24.8 is inherited
from the legacy PowerPlay sensor format. Milliwatts are a more natural unit
for the hwmon and pm_info consumers in amdgpu_pm.c. A common decoder cannot
distinguish these formats, and converting native milliwatts through Q24.8
also loses precision.
Use milliwatts as the internal unit across all PPT and PowerPlay backends.
Decode Q24.8 only at the legacy smu7 input boundary and encode it only for
the raw amdgpu_sensors debugfs interface. This gives hwmon, pm_info and the
sensor ioctl one unambiguous unit while preserving the format used by UMR.

kfd_criu_checkpoint_events() counts the entries in p->event_idr via
kfd_get_num_events(), allocates an array sized to that count, and then
walks the same IDR to fill it. Neither the count nor the walk holds
p->event_mutex.
The CRIU checkpoint caller holds only p->mutex. Event create and destroy
(kfd_event_create()/kfd_event_destroy()) take p->event_mutex and do not
take p->mutex, so a second thread in the same process can insert or remove
events between the count and the walk. If an event is inserted, the walk
iterates more entries than were counted and writes past the end of the
ev_privs allocation; if an event is removed, the walk dereferences an
entry that is being freed.
Hold p->event_mutex across the count and the walk so both observe a
consistent view of p->event_idr. The lock is released before
copy_to_user(), which only touches the local buffer. The caller already
holds p->mutex and the create/destroy paths never take p->mutex, so the
p->mutex -> p->event_mutex order is not inverted and no deadlock is
introduced.

If a plane reaches calculate_mcache_setting with a zero-area viewport,
calculate_mcache_setting exits early with num_mcaches == 0 and
mvmpg_width/height == 0. This will cause a divide-by-zero panic and can
also cause an underflow on num_mcaches.
Fix this by changing calculate_mcache_setting to bool and adding guards
after each calculate_mcache_row_bytes call. If num_mcaches or
mvmpg_width/height is zero, return a false. Callers will propagate the
failure as a rejected mode, which prevents the panic.

eop_ring_buffer_size in struct queue_properties is a u32. In
kfd_queue_acquire_buffers() the expected EOP buffer size is computed as
ALIGN(eop_ring_buffer_size, PAGE_SIZE); ALIGN uses typeof(x), so the
addition is done in 32-bit. A user-supplied size of 0xFFFFF001 wraps to
0, causing kfd_queue_buffer_get() to skip its exact-size check (gated on
size != 0) and accept any BO mapped at the address. On GFX8/GFX9 the MQD
cp_hqd_eop_control is then programmed for an 8KB EOP ring backed by a 4KB
BO, so CP EOP writes can land past the buffer and fault the GPU.
Cast the operand to u64 so the alignment is computed in 64-bit; the size
check in kfd_queue_buffer_get() then rejects the oversized request.

This means clear_bit(*qid, pqm->queue_slot_bitmap) is never called,
leaving the reserved QID bit permanently set in queue_slot_bitmap.
Over time this leaks QID slots, potentially exhausting all available
queue slots.
Fix this by replacing 'return retval' with 'goto err_allocate_pqn'
so that clear_bit() is always called on the error path without
touching the uninitialized pqn pointer.

Some HDMI sinks need additional GCP packets to properly process the
mute state before the timing generator is disabled, especially after
link re-establishment with HDMI 2.0 scrambling enabled. Waiting for
only 2 frames is insufficient for certain monitor firmware, resulting
in garbled display output on resume from suspend.
Increase the AV mute wait in dcn30_set_avmute() from 2 to 3 frames
to ensure the sink receives enough GCP packets.

The same as the rest of the code, get_ss_info_from_atombios() uses
calc_pll_cs->ctx->logger for logging. But calc_pll_cs->ctx is
initialized only later in calc_pll_max_vco_construct(). Therefore, any
output using DC_LOG_SYNC() leads to a NULL pointer deference in
get_ss_info_from_atombios().
According to Sashiko, the very same problem exists in
dce112_get_pix_clk_dividers() and dcn3_get_pix_clk_dividers() too.
To avoid accessing the NULL context, use clk_src->base.ctx->logger
everywhere. That context in base is initialized earlier in
dce110_clk_src_construct() and dce112_clk_src_construct(). Before
get_ss_info_from_atombios() or Sashiko's get_pix_clk_dividers functions
above are actually called. This is done by redefining DC_LOGGER to
CTX->logger.
Before:

-> ss_info_from_atombios_create()
-> get_ss_info_from_atombios() <- uses calc_pll_cs->ctx # BOOM
-> calc_pll_max_vco_construct() <- sets calc_pll_cs->ctx

svm_range_evict_svm_bo_worker() migrated an SVM BO's pages back to system
memory from a work item that took mmap_read_lock. When an mmap writer was
pending, that read lock blocked behind the writer while the thread
allocating a new migration VRAM BO waited on this BO's eviction fence - a
circular wait that hung the SVM workers.
Evict the SVM BO synchronously from the TTM eviction path
(amdgpu_ttm_bo_eviction_valuable) instead of deferring to a work item.
The BO is already reserved and the lock order is mmap_lock -> BO
reservation, so only trylock the owning process's mmap lock; on
contention return -EBUSY so TTM skips this BO. This removes the eviction
work item and the enable_signaling path, so no worker can block on
mmap_read_lock.
The SVM BO uses AMDGPU_GEM_CREATE_DISCARDABLE, so ttm_bo_evict takes the
pipeline_gutting path and skips allocating a system memory placement.
That would be wasted work, since svm_migrate_vram_to_ram allocates the
system pages and copies the data back itself.
Eviction now migrates ranges directly, so it must serialize with the
owning process: it trylocks migrate_mutex under svm_bo->list_lock before
unlinking the range, and svm_range_free() unlinks the range then waits on
migrate_mutex, so a concurrent eviction cannot free a range under it.
Drop the mm reference with mmput_async so exit_mmap() does not run under
the BO reservation.

Currently when amdgpu copies or fills a buffer,
it uses the maximum byte count supported by the
copy engine (SDMA). This is problematic when the
maximum byte count is not aligned to 256 bytes
because it then can't use all memory channels
optimally and can cause the SDMA to operate in its
slower byte mode (as opposed to the faster dword mode).
For example, when copying a 10 MiB buffer on SDMA v2.4,
we get 5 packets copying 2097151 bytes and 1 packet copying
the remaining 5 bytes. All 6 packets are misaligned and operate
in byte mode.
For this example, the optimal solution would be to have
5 packets each copying 2096896 bytes and 1 last packet to
copy the remaining 1280 bytes, in which case all 6 packets
are aligned to 256 bytes and operate in dword mode.
Let's use the following scheme from now on:
When byte count is dword-aligned and fits a single packet,
just emit a single packet.
Otherwise, align the copy packet size down to 256 bytes
for optimal use of memory channels and to ensure the HW
can use the dword mode.
This assumes that the starting addresses of BOs are always
dword aligned, which should be the case for every copy
operation in the kernel, because the kernel always copies
pages.

Expose displayable DRM format modifiers based on which
tiling modes are supported by the GFX block.
Technically, DCE (Display Controller Engine) could
support all possible permutations of all parameters
independently of what GFX supports, with the limitation
that it can only display LINEAR images and the
displayable micro tiling mode (MICROTILE == DISPLAY).
It doesn't make sense to expose all possible permutations
of macro tiling modes, so let's just expose what the GFX
block of the current chip supports.
The following modes will be advertised:
- 2D_TILED_THIN1 + DISPLAY + macrotile params [1]
- 1D_TILED_THIN1 + DISPLAY
- LINEAR
[1] The macro tiling parameters depend on how many
bits per pixel of the specific surface has and
how the chip is configured. There is only one set
of valid macrotile params for a given surface.

This is done for consistency between different GPU generations.
Tiling flags are "implicit modifiers" which are used on AMD GPUs
to let the kernel know the tiling information without modifiers.
Convert the tiling flags to modifers on GFX8 and older, so that
the DC display driver can rely on them like on newer generations.
Note that this code path will only be taken when DC actually
exposes any modifiers on GFX6-8, which is handled in a subsequent
commit after this one. This code path mainly exists for legacy
compositors which don't support explicit DRM format modifiers
and rely on the tiling flags, and for compatibility with old
Mesa that didn't support modifiers on GFX6-8.
Add amdgpu_display_verify_sizes_gfx6() to validate modifiers
on GFX6-8 and only accept the modes that the display driver
really supports, as well as validate the FB sizes.
Additionally adjust check_tiling_flags_gfx6() to allow the
LINEAR_GENERAL mode and disallow the ROTATED mode which has
never been supported by Mesa or Linux and was mistakenly
allowed previously.

kfd_criu_checkpoint_events() counts the entries in p->event_idr via
kfd_get_num_events(), allocates an array sized to that count, and then
walks the same IDR to fill it. Neither the count nor the walk holds
p->event_mutex.
The caller already
holds p->mutex and the create/destroy paths never take p->mutex, so the
p->mutex -> p->event_mutex order is not inverted and no deadlock is
introduced.

DSC over HDMI FRL (e.g. 4k144) was pruned by DML mode support
because the compressed FRL cap check was never reached.
dml32_TruncToValidBPP() validates the FRL output by calling
dml1_frl_cap_chk_inter() directly. The compressed-vs-uncompressed
dispatch (if params->compressed -> dml1_frl_cap_chk_compressed()) had
been moved up into the top-level dml1_frl_cap_chk() wrapper, leaving
dml1_frl_cap_chk_inter() as uncompressed-only. As a result a DSC stream
routed through TruncToValidBPP was validated against the full
uncompressed bandwidth, failed the cap check, and the mode was pruned
(vlevel == num_states).

mode_support does not require UCLK pstate today, so later PMO optimization
stages can push a plane's VActive latency-hiding margin below zero without
rechecking that the config still supports UCLK pstate. This can blank the
display on high-bandwidth configs.
[How]
Plumb the PMO-selected per-plane pstate method into mode_support and fail
the config only when UCLK pstate is required (method != na) but not
supported. For planes committed to a vactive method, require a non-negative
VActive latency-hiding margin, and skip the check when all streams are
blanked. No-op the PMO DCN42 pstate test (returning false only on the
initial candidate so the optimize/FAMS2 stage-3 setup still runs), since
reserved time is guaranteed by the override and the vactive margin is now
enforced in core mode_support.

If a plane reaches calculate_mcache_setting with a zero-area viewport,
calculate_mcache_setting exits early with num_mcaches == 0 and
mvmpg_width/height == 0. This will cause a divide-by-zero panic and can
also cause an underflow on num_mcaches.
Fix this by changing calculate_mcache_setting to bool and adding guards
after each calculate_mcache_row_bytes call. If num_mcaches or
mvmpg_width/height is zero, return a false. Callers will propagate the
failure as a rejected mode, which prevents the panic.

The Apple Studio Display primary tile advertises both the full 5120x2880
mode and the per-tile 2560x2880 timing. With the secondary tile already
hidden from userspace, the stray 2560x2880 mode on the primary connector
can still be picked by compositors, defeating the single 5K stream goal.
[how]
Prune the per-tile timing from the primary connector during get_modes:
when the sink carries the disable_second_tile quirk and the connector is
the primary tile (tile_h_loc == 0 && tile_v_loc == 0), drop any probed
mode matching the advertised tile size (tile_h_size x tile_v_size) so
userspace only sees the full 5120x2880 mode.

When running the KUnit tests with memory debugging enabled, a bunch of
use-after-free errors are hit. These are due to using KUnit managed
memory for the test objects but then giving them over to DRM managed
objects. The KUnit stuff is deallocated first and when the DRM side
calls its clean up helpers, it hits memory that has been freed already.
NB: There is still a use-after-free bug in the writeback tests.
However, fixing that requires driver side changes as well as test side
changes. Those changes are part of:

The vblank on/off callbacks mixed use of amdgpu_irq_get/put() and
amdgpu_dm_crtc_set_vupdate_irq() to enable and disable IRQs.
With get/put, base driver will callback into DC to disable IRQs when
refcount == 0. With set_vupdate_irq(), DC is called directly to disable
IRQs, bypassing base driver's refcount tracking.
During gpu reset, base driver can restore IRQs via
amdgpu_irq_gpu_reset_resume_helper() > amdgpu_irq_update(). So if
get/put() is not used (i.e. refcount == 0), then vupdate_irq will be
disabled.
This is problematic if DRM requests vblank on before amdgpu_irq_update()
is called: drm_vblank_on() > set_vupdate_irq() enables vupdate_irq, but
the refcount is still 0. gpu_reset_resume_helper() > irq_update() then
immediately disables it, thus leading to flip done timeouts.
This is made worse on DCN since VUPDATE_NO_LOCK is the only IRQ enabled.
Prior to the "Fixes:" change, a combination of GRPH_FLIP and VSTARTUP
IRQs were used, and they used get/put(). This explains why the change
exposed this issue.
Fix by using get/put() instead of set_vupdate_irq(). DCE is unchanged,
since it relies on unbalanced enable/disable calls based on VRR status,
and hence requires direct set_vupdate_irq(). Plus, it also uses
GRPH_FLIP and VLINE IRQs, which are properly tracked by get/put().

amdgpu_dpm_get_gpu_metrics() returns a pointer to the shared metrics cache

eop_ring_buffer_size in struct queue_properties is a u32. In
kfd_queue_acquire_buffers() the expected EOP buffer size is computed as
ALIGN(eop_ring_buffer_size, PAGE_SIZE); ALIGN uses typeof(x), so the
addition is done in 32-bit.

The tests dm_test_irq_schedule_work_queues_handler,
dm_test_irq_schedule_work_requeue_fallback, and
dm_test_irq_handler_dispatches_work relied on amdgpu_dm_irq_fini()
running each pending low-context work item before freeing the
handlers, and only checked the handler counts afterwards.
amdgpu_dm_irq_fini() now cancels pending work with
cancel_work_sync() instead of flushing it, so work that has not yet
started never runs and the counts stay below the expected values,
failing the tests.
Flush the private DM IRQ workqueue (adev->dm.irq_wq) so the
scheduled handlers complete, check the counts, then tear down.
Flushing this driver-owned workqueue is allowed, unlike the

The state-update commit path only reads the caller's update
descriptor, it never mutates the dc_state_update root. Making the
pointer const documents that contract.
[How]
Add const to the updates parameter of dc_update_state and
dc_check_state_update. Mark the single-assignment locals in
dc_update_state_init const and replace the memset plus
field-by-field assignment with a compound literal initializer.

[Why]
The dc_update_state commit interface and the dc_probe object model existed
but were not connected: there was no path to validate, commit, and program
a probe through the update pipeline, nor to read the result back. The
measurement waits on OTG frame edges and must not block fast updates.
[How]
- Move the per-commit scratch off dc_stream_state onto a dc-owned pool;
acquire at init, release on cleanup or prepare failure, serialized by the
DM global lock every commit path already holds.
- dc_update_state drives stream commits, probe-only commits, or both through
one staged init/prepare/execute/cleanup loop with a null-arg guard. prepare
releases the scratch slot on failure; cleanup releases it on success.
- Probe prepare installs the absolute probe set in place; execute calls the
perfmon programming hook in the unlocked window and latches results.
- Add resource_validate_probe_set, a context-free achievability check shared
by dc_validate_global_state (full update) and probe prepare (probe-only).
- dc_state_get_status gains a probe status class with a probe filter and a
by-type mapping; dc_validation_set gains probes/probe_count. Drop the dead
actual_* fields from struct dc_qos_info.

[Why]
The hubbub perfmon peak-bandwidth path used a monolithic function
combining counter configuration and enable in one call, and wrote results
into a caller-supplied struct outside the dc_state model. A BLS-driven
approach builds the measurement from stateless primitives, gates it to OTG
frame boundaries, and stores results in dc_state.
[How]
- Rename the peak-BW vtable members from "unbounded_bandwidth" to
"out_of_order_bandwidth" and split them into arm and start operations.
- Add the full set of perfmon BLS primitives - param structs, union
members, enum entries, executors, and hwss_add_* builders - for reset,
arm, every start_measuring_* and every get_* operation.
- Add dc_probe_status (valid, type, result union) plus probe_status[] to
dc_state.
- Replace the measure_memory_qos hook with program_perfmon(dc, context),
which writes results into probe_status[].
- dc_get_qos_info no longer calls the removed hook.

[How]

dc_validation_set a root struct holding streams[MAX_STREAMS] and
stream_count. Update dc_validate_with_context() to take a single

During gpu reset, base driver can restore IRQs via
amdgpu_irq_gpu_reset_resume_helper() > amdgpu_irq_update(). So if
get/put() is not used (i.e. refcount == 0), then vupdate_irq will be
disabled.
This is problematic if DRM requests vblank on before amdgpu_irq_update()
is called: drm_vblank_on() > set_vupdate_irq() enables vupdate_irq, but
the refcount is still 0. gpu_reset_resume_helper() > irq_update() then
immediately disables it, thus leading to flip done timeouts.
This is made worse on DCN since VUPDATE_NO_LOCK is the only IRQ enabled.
Prior to 8382cd2349, a combination of GRPH_FLIP and VSTARTUP IRQs were
used, and they used get/put(). This explains why 8382cd2349 exposed
this issue.

Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org # 8382cd234981: drm/amd/display: consolidate DCN vblank/flip handling onto vupdate_no_lock
Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org # 48ab86360af1: drm/amd/display: check GRPH_FLIP status before sending event
Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org
[Why]
After unifying DCN interrupt sources under VUPDATE_NO_LOCK, we have two
remaining issues to clean up:
1. On DCN, flip completion is now delivered from VUPDATE_NO_LOCK
(dm_crtc_high_irq_handler) instead of GRPH_PFLIP. But VUPDATE_NO_LOCK
fires every frame, regardless of whether a flip has latched.
2. There is a window during commit where a flip is armed (pflip_status =
SUBMITTED) but not yet programmed into HW. If the VUPDATE_NO_LOCK
fires in that window, its handler would deliver a flip event to
userspace before HW has latched to it. If userspace then renders to
what it believes is now the back buffer (but HW is still latched to
it!), it will cause display corruption. This issue seemed to have
been introduced by:
commit 1159898a88 ("drm/amd/display: Handle commit plane with no FB.")
Enabling replay or psr extended the duration of this window, and
hence made corruption more likely to be observed.
[How]
* Move acrtc->event/pflip_status arming to after
update_planes_and_stream_adapter() has programmed the flip into HW.
This closes the window where pflip_status is SUBMITTED but the flip is
not yet programmed.
* Add dc_get_flip_pending_on_otg(), which reads the HUBP flip-pending
status straight from HW for the pipe(s) bound to an OTG instance. It
is keyed only by otg_inst and does not take or mutate a
dc_plane_state, so it is safe to call from the OTG interrupt handler
without racing a concurrent commit that may be modifying plane state.
* Optimistically query for flip-pending after programming, in the event
that HW latched to the new fb between programming start and arming
event. If it latched, send the vblank event immediately, rather than
wait for the next vblank IRQ.
* In the VUPDATE_NO_LOCK handler, only deliver flip completion once
dc_get_flip_pending_on_otg() reports the flip is no longer pending.
Otherwise leave the flip armed and retry on the next vupdate.
* For DCE, maintain the existing behavior of arming flips before
programming, and relying on GRPH_FLIP to fire at HW latch.
v2:
* Drop flip_programmed completion object, instead move
event/pflip_status arming after programming.
* For DCN, optimistically query for flip pending immediately after
programming, and if it latched, send event right away.
v3:
* Fix event timestamps on optimistic flip latch detection, where it's
possible for it to run *before* the vupdate IRQ updates the timestamp.
* Add more docstrings for DCN vblank handling.
* Clean up if conditions in dm_arm_vblank_event().
* Code style cleanup on braces surrounding multi-line statements.

Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org # 8382cd234981: drm/amd/display: consolidate DCN vblank/flip handling onto vupdate_no_lock
Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org
[Why]
On DCN, vblank events were delivered from VSTARTUP/VUPDATE
(dm_crtc_high_irq/dm_vupdate_high_irq) and pageflip completion from
GRPH_PFLIP (dm_pflip_high_irq). These signals can be masked by hardware
by a few things:
* DPG - DCN can Dynamically Power Gate parts of the display pipe when a
self-refresh capable eDP is connected. DPG is engaged when there's
enough static frames (detected through drm_vblank_off). Once gated,
even though the OTG (output timing generator) is still enabled,
VSTARTUP and GRPH_FLIP are masked.
* GSL - Driver can use the Global Sync Lock to block HW from latching
onto double-buffered registers during programming, to prevent HW from
latching onto a partially programmed state. This will mask VSTARTUP,
GRPH_FLIP, and VUPDATE. See dcn20_pipe_control_lock().
* MALL - A DCN accessible cache introduced in DCN32+ DGPUs that can
store fb data to allow for longer DRAM sleep. When scanning out from
MALL, VSTARTUP is masked.
When masked, events are never delivered, which can show up as flip_done
timeouts in the wild.
However, there is an interrupt source on DCN that is never masked:
VUPDATE_NO_LOCK. It's simply an unmasked variant of VUPDATE, which fires
while the OTG is active, at the exact point hardware latches
double-buffered registers. It is therefore the natural single signal for
delivering both vblank and flip-completion events on DCN, and the
correct point to timestamp both VRR and non-VRR vblanks.
DCE's interrupt sources are different, it does not have an unmaskable
VUPDATE_NO_LOCK. The only unmaskable DCE interrupt is VLINE0, but it can
only be programmed as a vline offset from vsync_start, making it
unsuitable for VRR. Thus, we keep DCE untouched and use the existing mix
of interrupt sources.
[How]
For DCN1 and newer only:
* Factor the body of dm_crtc_high_irq() into dm_crtc_high_irq_handler()
and drive it from dm_vupdate_high_irq() (VUPDATE_NO_LOCK). DCE keeps
using dm_crtc_high_irq() (VSTARTUP) and dm_pflip_high_irq()
(GRPH_PFLIP) unchanged.
* Stop registering VSTARTUP (crtc_irq) and GRPH_PFLIP (pageflip_irq) on
DCN, and stop enabling them in amdgpu_dm_crtc_set_vblank() /
manage_dm_interrupts(). Enable VUPDATE whenever vblank is enabled on
DCN (previously only in VRR mode). The secure-display vline0 interrupt
is left untouched.
* VUPDATE_NO_LOCK does not early-fire on an immediate (tearing / async)
flip, since HW latches the new address right away. Deliver the flip
completion event immediately after programming such flips in
amdgpu_dm_commit_planes(), and clear pflip_status so the next vupdate
handler does not double-send.
v2: Do not gate VUPDATE_NO_LOCK on DCN in dm_handle_vrr_transition()
Also toggle VUPDATE_NO_LOCK on DCN in dm_gpureset_toggle_interrupts()
Re-cook vblank event count and timestamp for immediate flips
