cadence_nand_cdma_send_and_wait() propagates negative errno values
from cadence_nand_cdma_send(), returns -ETIMEDOUT on failure and -EIO
when the CDMA engine reports a command failure.
However, it is declared as u32, causing error codes to wrap.
Change the return type to int to correctly propagate errors.

Add support for Dosilicon DS35Q1GA (3.3V) and DS35M1GA (1.8V) SPI NAND.
These are 1Gbit (128MB) devices with:
- 2048 byte pages + 64 byte OOB
- 64 pages per block, 1024 blocks
- On-die 4-bit ECC per 512 byte sector
The 64-byte OOB area is divided into 4 segments of 16 bytes, with each
segment containing 8 bytes of user data (M2+M1) and 8 bytes of ECC
parity (R1). This provides 30 bytes of usable OOB space after reserving
2 bytes for the bad block marker.
Tested on Genexis Platinum 4410 (EcoNet EN751221) by writing known
patterns to OOB and verifying ECC parity placement in R1 regions.

This reverts commit dd26402642.
The issue George met is due to the limit of QPIC, not the issue of the
flash chip.
QPIC only supports 4 bytes ID. So the fifth byte is always 0.
If we use spi-gpio, the fifth byte can be read correctly.

- Another notable change on this driver is the use of

cycles for reads. This results in the default of 0 being used. This
works for other Infineon chips, but not for the S25FS-S family. They
need 8 dummy cycles. Add fixup hooks to specify that. Also add fixup
hooks to fix incorrect map ID data in SFDP.
- Add support for a bunch of Winbond flashes. Their block protection
information is not discoverable, so they need to have an entry in the

strncpy() is deprecated [1] for NUL-terminated destination buffers
because it does not guarantee NUL termination. It also unnecessarily
NUL-pads the destination buffer if the source is shorter. Replace it
with sysfs_emit() using the "%.*s" format specifier and supply the
length 'sm_attr->len' to improve sm_attr_show().
Return the number of characters actually written to 'buf' instead of

There are several places where a value of type 'int' is shifted by
lpddr->chipshift. lpddr->chipshift is derived from QINFO geometry and
might reach 31 when QINFO reports a 2 GiB size - the maximum supported by
LPDDR(1) compliant chips. This may cause unexpected sign-extensions when
casting the integer value to the type of 'unsigned long'.
Use '1UL << lpddr->chipshift' and cast 'j' to unsigned long before
shifting so the computation is performed at the destination width.

This patch prevents unnecessary programming of bits in ec_hdr and
vid_hdr that are not used or read during normal UBI operation. These
unused bits are typcially already set to 1 in erased flash and do not
need to be explicitly programmed to 0 if they are not used.
Programming such unused areas offers no functional benefit and may
result in unnecessary flash wear, reducing the overall lifetime of the
device. By skipping these writes, we preserve the flash state as much as
possible and minimize wear caused by redundant operations.
This change ensures that only necessary fields are written when preparing
UBI headers, improving flash efficiency without affecting functionality.
Additionally, the Kioxia TC58NVG1S3HTA00 datasheet (page 63) also notes
that continuous program/erase cycling with a high percentage of '0' bits
in the data pattern can accelerate block endurance degradation.
This further supports avoiding large 0x00 patterns.

Some SPI controllers like Intel's one on the PCI bus do not support
opcode 35h. This opcode is used to read the Configuration Register on
SPI-NOR chips that have 16-bit Status Register configured regardless
of the controller support for it. Adding a check call in the setup step
allows disabling use of the 35h opcode and falling back to the manual
Status Registers management.

The MT35XU02GCBA flash device does not support chip erase, according to
its datasheet. It supports die erase, which means the current driver
implementation will likely need to be converted to use die erase.
Furthermore, similar to the MT35XU01GBBA, the
SPI_NOR_IO_MODE_EN_VOLATILE flag probably needs to be enabled.
Currently no active contributor has access to this hardware so there is
no way of testing the fixes. Add a TODO item on the flash entry so
someone with the flash can test that the support is indeed broken and
send the fixes.

Commit 5c2f7727d4 ("mtd: mtdpart: check for subpartitions parsing
result") introduced some kind of regression with parser on subpartitions
where if a parser emits an error then the entire parsing process from the
upper parser fails and partitions are deleted.
Not checking for error in subpartitions was originally intended as
special parser can emit error also in the case of the partition not
correctly init (for example a wiped partition) or special case where the
partition should be skipped due to some ENV variables externally
provided (from bootloader for example)
One example case is the TRX partition where, in the context of a wiped
partition, returns a -ENOENT as the trx_magic is not found in the
expected TRX header (as the partition is wiped)
To better handle this and still keep some kind of error tracking (for
example to catch -ENOMEM errors or -EINVAL errors), permit parser on
subpartition to emit -ENOENT error, print a debug log and skip them
accordingly.
This results in giving better tracking of the status of the parser
(instead of returning just 0, dropping any kind of signal that there is
something wrong with the parser) and to some degree restore the original
logic of the subpartitions parse.
(worth to notice that some special partition might have all the special
header present for the parser and declare 0 partition in it, this is why
it would be wrong to simply return 0 in the case of a special partition
that is NOT init for the scanning parser)

S25FS-S family supports SMPT that helps to detect sector layout settings
in configuration registers, but some of parameters in the table are
wrong or undetermined so the fixups below are required.
Read Any Register op is used to read configuration registers that
related to sector map. The op requires 8 cycles latency by default.
Implement smpt_read_dummy() to set correct dummy cycles.
Map ID is structured by combination of CR3NV[3], CR1NV[2], and CR3NV[1].
However, in S25FS512S, CR3NV[1] is RFU and always 0, while map IDs
defined in the table assume it is always 1. Implement smpt_map_id() to
fix map ID for S25FS512S. Other densities in S25FS-S family (256Mb and
128Mb) don't need this fix as CR3NV[1] in those chips is configurable
and map IDs are correctly defined in SMPT.

Certain chips have inconsistent Sector Map Parameter Table (SMPT) data,
which leads to the wrong map ID being identified, causing failures to
detect the correct sector map.
To fix this, introduce smpt_map_id() into the struct spi_nor_fixups.
This function will be called after the initial SMPT-based detection,
allowing chip-specific logic to correct the map ID.
Infineon S25FS512S needs this fixup as it has inconsistency between map
ID definition and configuration register value actually obtained.

SMPT contains config detection info that describes opcode, address, and
dummy cycles to read sector map config. The dummy cycles parameter can
be SMPT_CMD_READ_DUMMY_IS_VARIABLE and in that case nor->read_dummy
(initialized as 0) is used. In Infineon flash chips, Read Any Register
command with variable dummy cycle is defined in SMPT. S25Hx/S28Hx flash
has 0 dummy cycle by default to read volatile regiters and
nor->read_dummy can work. S25FS-S flash has 8 dummy cycles so we need a
hook that can fix dummy cycles with actually used value.
Inroduce smpt_read_dummy() in struct spi_nor_fixups. It is called when
the dummy cycle field in SMPT config detection is 'varialble'.

A key feature for the new bitmap are that the IO fastpath is
lockless. If a user issues lots of write IO to the same bitmap
bit in a short time, only the first write has additional overhead
to update bitmap bit, no additional overhead for the following
writes.
By supporting only resync or recover written data, means in the

The Realtek RTl93xx switch SoC series has a built in ECC controller
that can provide BCH6 or BCH12 over 512 data and 6 tag bytes. It
generates 10 (BCH6) or 20 (BCH12) bytes of parity.
This engine will most likely work in conjunction with the Realtek
spi-mem based NAND controller but can work on its own. Therefore
the initial implementation will be of type external.
Remark! The engine can support any data blocks that are multiples
of 512 bytes. For now limit it to data+oob layouts that have been
analyzed from existing devices. This way it keeps compatibility
and pre-existing vendor data can be read.

Continuous reading may result in multiple flash pages reading in one
operation. Unfortunately, not all spinand controllers support such
large reading. They will read less data. Unfortunately, the operation
can't be continued.
In this case:
* disable continuous reading on this (not good enough) spi controller
* repeat reading in regular mode.

Continuous reading may result in multiple flash pages reading in one
operation. Typically only one flash page has read/written (a little bit
more than 2-4 Kb), but continuous reading requires the spi controller
to read up to 512 Kb in one operation without toggling CS in beetween.
Roughly speaking spi controllers can be divided on 2 categories:
* spi controllers without dirmap acceleration support
* spi controllers with dirmap acceleration support
Firt of them will have issues with continuous reading if restriction on
the transfer length is implemented in the adjust_op_size() handler.
Second group often supports acceleration of single page only reading.
Thus enabling of continuous reading can break flash reading.
This patch tries to create dirmap for continuous reading first and
fallback to regular reading if spi controller refuses to create it.

The check function for bitflips in erased blocks will be needed
by the Realtek ECC engine driver (which is currently under
development). Right now it is located in raw/nand_base.c.
While this is sufficient for the current usecases, there is
no real dependency for an ECC engine on the raw nand library.
Move the function over to a more generic place in core library.

Repeatedly marking the same eraseblock bad inflates
mtd->ecc_stats.badblocks because mtd_block_markbad() unconditionally
increments the counter on success, while some implementations (e.g.
NAND) return 0 both when the block was already bad and when it has just
been marked[1].
Fix by checking if the block is already bad before calling
->_block_markbad() when _block_isbad is available. Only skip the counter
increment when we can confirm the block was already bad. In all other
cases continue incrementing the counter.
This keeps the logic centralized in mtdcore without requiring driver
changes.

The page address register describes the page address of the starting
address for NAND read/write/erase operations.
According to the manual, it consists of two parts:
{chip select, page number}
The `chip select` is fixed at 2 bits, and the `page number` is
determined based on the actual capacity of the single-chip memory.
Therefore we need to determine the `chip select` bits base on the `page
number`.
For example, for a 1GB capacity chip (2K page size), it has 1M pages.
Thus, [19:0] is used to represent the page number, and [21:20]
represents the chip select.

Prevent PMECC errors when reading from AMD/Spansion S34ML02G1 flash on
SAM9X60 SoC, after switching to ONFI timing mode 3.
From reading the S34ML02G1 and the SAM9X60 datasheets again, it seems
like we have to wait tREA after rising RE# before sampling the data.
Thus pulse must be at least tREA.
The previous approach to set this timing worked on sam9g20 and sama5d2
with the same flash (S34ML02G1), probably because those have a slower
mck clock rate and thus the resolution of the timings setup is not as
tight as with sam9x60.
The approach to fix the issue was carried over from u-boot, which itself
got it from at91bootstrap. It has been successfully tested in
at91bootstrap, U-Boot and Linux on sam9x60 and sama5d2, for several
months here.

In case OOB write is requested during a data write, ECC is currently
lost. Avoid this issue by only writing in the free spare area.
This issue has been seen with a YAFFS2 file system.

Since commit ddaad4ad77 ("mtd: nand: qpic_common: prevent out of
bounds access of BAM arrays"), the {cmd,data}_sgl_nitems members in
the 'bam_transaction' structure are containing the number of elements
in the cmd/data scatter-gather lists.
Change the qcom_clear_bam_transaction() function to use these numbers
while reinitializing the sg lists instead of recomputing the number of
elements to make it less error prone.

If a ma35_nand_chip_init() call fails, then a reference to 'nand_np' still
needs to be released.
Use for_each_child_of_node_scoped() to fix the issue.

Intel Discrete Graphics non-volatile memory is only present on Intel
discrete graphics devices, and its auxiliary device is instantiated by
the Intel i915 and Xe2 DRM drivers. Hence add dependencies on DRM_I915
and DRM_XE, to prevent asking the user about this driver when
configuring a kernel without Intel graphics support.

Instances are happier that way and it makes more sense anyway -
the only part of the result that is related to partition we are given
is the start sector, and that has been filled in by the caller.
Everything else is a function of the disk. Only one instance
(DASD) is ever looking at anything other than bdev->bd_disk and
that one is trivial to adjust.

Apart from a binding conversion to yaml, only minor changes/small fixes
have been merged.
* Raw NAND changes:
Various controller drivers received minor fixes like DMA mapping checks,
better timing derivations or bitflip statistics.
It has also been discovered that some Hynix NAND flashes were not
supporting read-retries, which is not properly supported.
* SPI NAND changes:
In order to support high-speed modes, certain chips need extra
configuration like adding more dummy cycles. This is now possible,
especially on Winbond chips.
Aside from that, Gigadevice gets support for a new chip (GD5F1GM9).
* SPI NOR changes:
A notable changes is the fix for exiting 4-byte addressing on Infineon
SEMPER flashes. These flashes do not support the standard EX4B
opcode (E9h), and use a vendor-specific opcode (B8h) instead.
There is also a fix for unlocking flashes that are write-protected at
power-on. This was caused by using an uninitialized mtd_info in
spi_nor_try_unlock_all().

Clarify that Winbond octal capable chips may be clocked at up to 166MHz,
which is their absolute maximum.
No per-operation maximum value (captured with a "0" in the table)
involves that in these cases the maximum frequency of the chip applies,
ie. the one commonly described in the DT.

w35n0xjw chips can run at up to 166MHz in octal mode, but this is only

w25n0xjw chips have a high-speed capability hidden in a configuration
register. Once enabled, dual/quad SDR reads may be performed at a much
higher frequency.
Implement the new ->configure_chip() hook for this purpose and configure
the SR4 register accordingly.

There is already a manufacturer hook, which is manufacturer specific but
not chip specific. We no longer have access to the actual NAND identity
at this stage so let's add a per-chip configuration hook to align the
chip configuration (if any) with the core's setting.

These macros had initially no frequency field. When I added the "maximum
operation frequency" field, I did it initially on very common macros and
I decided to add an optional field for that (with VA_ARGS) in order to
prevent massively unreadable changes. I then added new variants in the
spinand.h header, and requested a frequency field for them by
default. Some times later, I also added maximum frequencies to other
existing variants, but I did it incorrectly, without noticing I was
wrong because the field was optional.
This mix is error prone, so let's do what I should have done since the
very beginning: add a frequency field to all READ_FROM_CACHE variants.
There is no functional change.
Signed-off-by: Miquel Raynal <miquel.raynal@bootlin.com>
In order to pick the best variant, the duration of each typical
operation is derived and then compared. These durations are based on the
maximum capabilities of the chips, which are commonly the limiting
factors. However there are other possible limiting pieces, such as the
hardware layout, EMC considerations and in some cases, the SPI controller
itself.
We need to take this into account to further refine our variant choice,
so let's use the actual frequency that will be used for the operation
instead of the theoretical maximum.

Commit ff67592cbd ("mtd: spi-nor: Introduce spi_nor_set_mtd_info()")
moved all initialization of the mtd fields at the end of spi_nor_scan().
Normally, the mtd info is only needed for the mtd ops on the device,
with one exception: spi_nor_try_unlock_all(), which will also make use
of the mtd->size parameter. With that commit, the size will always be
zero because it is not initialized. Fix that by not using the size of
the mtd_info struct, but use the size from struct spi_nor_flash_parameter.

The common QPIC code does not do any boundary checking when it handles
the command elements and scatter gater list arrays of a BAM transaction,
thus it allows to access out of bounds elements in those.
Although it is the responsibility of the given driver to allocate enough
space for all possible BAM transaction variations, however there can be
mistakes in the driver code which can lead to hidden memory corruption
issues which are hard to debug.
This kind of problem has been observed during testing the 'spi-qpic-snand'
driver. Although the driver has been fixed with a preceding patch, but it
still makes sense to reduce the chance of having such errors again later.
In order to prevent such errors, change the qcom_alloc_bam_transaction()
function to store the number of elements of the arrays in the
'bam_transaction' strucutre during allocation. Also, add sanity checks to
the qcom_prep_bam_dma_desc_{cmd,data}() functions to avoid using out of
bounds indices for the arrays.

Dual and quad capable chips natively support dual and quad I/O variants
at up to 104MHz (1-2-2 and 1-4-4 operations). Reaching the maximum speed
of 166MHz is theoretically possible (while still unsupported in the
field) by adding a few more dummy cycles. Let's be accurate and clearly
state this limit.
Setting a maximum frequency implies adding the frequency parameter to
the macro, which is done using a variadic argument to avoid impacting

The idea behind this patch was to always let a "master" mtd device
available to anchor runtime PM. Historically, there was no mtd device
representing the whole storage as soon as partitions were coming into
play. The introduction of CONFIG_MTD_PARTITIONED_MASTER allowed to keep
this "master" device, but was not enabled by default to avoid breaking
existing users (otherwise the mtd device numbering would be totally
messed up with an off by 1, at least).
The approach of adding an mtd_master class on top of partitioned mtd
devices is breaking the mtd core in many creative ways, so better think
again this approach and revert the faulty changes for now.

The code in the ntfl write function is rather complex, and it contains
a 512 byte on-stack buffer. The combination of these two leads to using
more than the per-function stack warning limit in some configurations,
especially with KASAN enabled:
drivers/mtd/nftlcore.c:673:12: error: stack frame size (1328) exceeds limit (1280) in 'nftl_writeblock' [-Werror,-Wframe-larger-than]
Avoid this warning by moving the on-stack buffer into a separate function
that only copies one part of the device to another.
This does not really help with the total maximum stack usage in the
(non-KASAN) normal case, but it does two things:
- no single function has more than the warning limit
- the complexity goes down, so the parent function ends up
spilling few local variables, and the total actually goes
down slightly.

register a master device. This is a problem that has been there forever:
the "master" device was not always present depending on a number of
heuristics such as the presence of fixed partitions and the absence of a
Kconfig symbol to force its presence. This was a problem for runtime PM
operations which might not have the "master" device available in all
situation.
The SPI NAND subsystem has seen the introduction of DTR operations (the
equivalent of DDR transfers), which involved quite a few preparation
patches for clarifying macro names.
In the raw NAND subsystem, the brcmnand driver has been "fixed" for old
legacy SoCs with an update of the ->exec_op() hook, there has been the
introduction of a new controller driver named Loongson-1, and the
Qualcomm driver has received quite a few misc fixes as well as a new
compatible.
Finally, Macornix SPI NOR entries have been cleaned-up and some SFDP
table fixups for Macronix MX25L3255E have been merged.
Aside from this, there is the usual load of misc improvement, fixes,
and yaml conversion.

Pull MTD updates from Miquel Raynal:
"A big core MTD change is the introduction of a new class to always
register a master device. This is a problem that has been there
forever: the "master" device was not always present depending on a
number of heuristics such as the presence of fixed partitions and the
absence of a Kconfig symbol to force its presence. This was a problem
for runtime PM operations which might not have the "master" device
available in all situation.
The SPI NAND subsystem has seen the introduction of DTR operations
(the equivalent of DDR transfers), which involved quite a few
preparation patches for clarifying macro names.
In the raw NAND subsystem, the brcmnand driver has been "fixed" for
old legacy SoCs with an update of the ->exec_op() hook, there has been
the introduction of a new controller driver named Loongson-1, and the
Qualcomm driver has received quite a few misc fixes as well as a new

Finally, Macornix SPI NOR entries have been cleaned-up and some SFDP

The function sunxi_nfc_hw_ecc_write_chunk() calls the
sunxi_nfc_hw_ecc_write_chunk(), but does not call the configuration
function sunxi_nfc_randomizer_config(). Consequently, the randomization
might not conduct correctly, which will affect the lifespan of NAND flash.
A proper implementation can be found in sunxi_nfc_hw_ecc_write_page_dma().
Add the sunxi_nfc_randomizer_config() to config randomizer.

denali_pci.c enables a PCI device with pcim_enable_device(). This,
implicitly, switches the function pci_request_regions() into managed
mode, where it becomes a devres function.
The PCI subsystem wants to remove this hybrid nature from its
interfaces. To do so, users of the aforementioned combination of
functions must be ported to non-hybrid functions.
Moreover, since both functions are already managed in this driver, the
calls to pci_release_regions() are unnecessary.

and the variable ret remains uninitialized. It is later checked

unpredictable results in user space or kernel crashes.
This scenario can be triggered in edge cases such as misconfigured
geometry, ECC engine misuse, or if ctx->steps is not validated

Describe the octal "read from cache" (1S_1S_8S, 1S_8S_8S and
1S_1D_8D_OP) and "program load" (1S_1S_8S and 1S_8S_8S) operations
supported by the W35N01JW chip.
There is no observable improvement between the two octal SDR modes,
which anyway offered a great read speed improvement compared to single
mode.
flash_speed test results ran on the TI AM62A7 LP SK using a 25MHz SPI bus:
* Single mode:
eraseblock read speed is 2346 KiB/s
page read speed is 2342 KiB/s
eraseblock write speed is 2028 KiB/s
page write speed is 2028 KiB/s
* Octal modes:
eraseblock read speed is 10801 KiB/s
page read speed is 10711 KiB/s
eraseblock write speed is 7335 KiB/s
page write speed is 7293 KiB/s
However, testing on the cadence qspi controller driver did not allow
mixed modes (where SDR and DTR cycles are mixed in the same operation),
thus 1S-1D-8D mode could not be tested and is provided for reference (it
is anyway skipped on platforms not supporting this). It did not allow
easy "update cache" tests either, so these macros are untested and given
as-is.

a bit, few patches target the use of str_enabled_disabled().
* Raw NAND changes:
i.MX8 and i.MX31 now have their own compatible, the Qcom driver got
cleaned, the Broadcom driver got fixed.
* SPI NAND changes:
Two main features have been added:
- OTP support has been brought, and ESMT and Micron manufacturer drivers
implement it.
- Read retry, and Macronix manufacturer driver implement it.
* SPI NOR changes:
Adding support for few flashes. Few cleanup patches for the core
driver, where we touched the headers inclusion list and we start using
the scope based mutex cleanup helpers.
There is as well a bunch of minor improvements and fixes in drivers and
bindings.

This patch provides the SPINAND_FACT_OTP_INFO and SPINAND_USER_OTP_INFO

To implement OTP operations, the client (flash driver) is provided with
callbacks for user area:

Add support for Winbond w25q01jv spi-nor chip.
This chip is internally made of two dies with linear addressing
capabilities to make it transparent to the user that two dies were
used. There is one drawback however, the read status operation is racy
as the status bit only gives the active die status and not the status of
the other die. For commands affecting the two dies, it means if another
command is sent too fast after the first die has returned a valid status
(deviation can be up to 200us), the chip will get corrupted/in an
unstable state.
This chip hence requires a better status register read. There are three
solutions here:
1- If we assume that the most common situation producing this problem is
status register writes, maybe we could change the "non-volatile"
status register write commands to become "volatile" status register
writes. In practice, what takes time is the write operation of the bits
themselves, and not the activation of the feature in the internal
circuitry. Enabling "volatile" status register writes would make the
writes nearly instant.
This approach, besides probably being the less impacting one, could
overlook other possible actions where both dies can be used at the same
time like a chip erase (or any erase over die boundaries in general).
2- Wait about 200us after getting a first status ready feedback. This
200us is about the maximum possible deviation between dies and would
cover all cases.
3- We iterate manually over all internal dies (which takes about 30us
per die) until all are ready. This approach will always be faster than
a blind delay which represents the maximum deviation, while also being
totally safe.
This third approach has been adopted. A flash-specific hook for the
status register read had to be implemented. Testing with the flash_speed
benchmark shown no difference with the existing performances (using the
regular status read core function). In practice there are difference in
the experimental results below, but they are part of the natural
deviation of the benchmark:
> Without the fixup
$ flash_speed /dev/mtd0 -c100 -d
eraseblock write speed is 442 KiB/s
eraseblock read speed is 1606 KiB/s
page write speed is 439 KiB/s
page read speed is 1520 KiB/s
2 page write speed is 441 KiB/s
2 page read speed is 1562 KiB/s
erase speed is 68 KiB/s
> With the fixup
$ flash_speed /dev/mtd0 -c100 -d
eraseblock write speed is 428 KiB/s
eraseblock read speed is 1626 KiB/s
page write speed is 426 KiB/s
page read speed is 1538 KiB/s
2 page write speed is 426 KiB/s
2 page read speed is 1574 KiB/s
erase speed is 66 KiB/s
However, the fixup, whatever which one we pick, must be applied on
multi-die chips, which hence must be properly flagged. The SFDP tables
implemented give a lot of information but the die details are part of an
optional table that is not implemented, hence we use a post parsing
fixup hook to set the params->n_dice value manually.

block: force noio scope in blk_mq_freeze_queue
block: fix nr_hw_queue update racing with disk addition/removal
block: get rid of request queue ->sysfs_dir_lock
loop: don't clear LO_FLAGS_PARTSCAN on LOOP_SET_STATUS{,64}
md/md-bitmap: Synchronize bitmap_get_stats() with bitmap lifetime
blk-mq: create correct map for fallback case
block: don't revert iter for -EIOCBQUEUED
When block drivers or the core block code perform allocations with a
frozen queue, this could try to recurse into the block device to
reclaim memory and deadlock. Thus all allocations done by a process
that froze a queue need to be done without __GFP_IO and __GFP_FS.
Instead of tying to track all of them down, force a noio scope as
part of freezing the queue.
Note that nvme is a bit of a mess here due to the non-owner freezes,
and they will be addressed separately.

There's been no major core change, and a bunch of driver related
improvements, amongst them the conversion to of_property_present() for
non-boolean properties, the addition of the support for Fujitsu
MB85RS128TY FRAM, a couple of improvements to the phram driver and the
usual load of misc changes.
* Raw NAND changes
A new controller driver, from Nuvoton, has been merged.
Bastien Curutchet has contributed a series improving the Davinci
controller driver, both on the organization of the code, but also on the
performance side. The binding has also been converted to yaml, received
a new OOB layout and now supports on-die ECC engines.
The Qualcomm controller driver has been deeply cleaned to extract some
parts of the code into a shared file with the Qualcomm SPI memory
controller.
Aside from these main changes, the Cadence binding has been converted to
yaml, the brcmnand controller driver has received a small fix, otherwise
some more minor changes have also made their way in.
* SPI NAND changes
The SPI NAND subsystem has seen a great improvement, with the advent of
DTR operations (DDR operations, which may be extended to the address
cycles). The first vendor driver to benefit from these improvements is
the Winbond driver.
A new manufacturer driver is added SkyHigh, with a new constraint for
the core, it is impossible to disable the on-die ECC engine.
A Foresee device is also now supported.
* SPI NOR changes
Several flash entries have been added: Atmel AT25SF321, Spansion
S28HL256T and S28HL02GT.
Support for vcc-supply regulators and their DT bindings has been added.
The mx25u25635f entry has been dropped. The flash shares its ID with
mx25u25645g and both parts have an SFDP table. Removing their entry lets
them be driven by the generic SFDP-based driver.

This is a fairly quiet release for the most part, though we do have one
really nice improvement in the spi-mem framework which will improve
performance for flash devices especially when built on by changes in the
MTD subsystem which are also due to be sent this merge window. There's
also been some substantial work on some of the drivers, highlights
include:
- Support for per-operation bus frequency in the spi-mem framework,
meaning speeds are no longer limited by the slowest operation.
- ACPI support and improved power management for Rockchip SFC
controllers.
- Support for Atmel SAM7G5 QuadSPI and KEBA SPI controllers.

Currently, "max_ec" can be read from sysfs, which provides a limited
view of the flash device’s wear. In certain cases, such as bugs in
the wear-leveling algorithm, specific blocks can be worn down more
than others, resulting in uneven wear distribution. Also some use cases
can wear the erase blocks of the fastmap area more heavily than other
parts of flash.
Providing detailed erase counter values give a better understanding of
the overall flash wear and is needed to be able to calculate for example
expected life time.
There exists more detailed info in debugfs, but this information is
only available for debug builds.

Commit 5580cdae05 ("ubi: wl: Close down wear-leveling before nand is

wear-leveling subsystem, which imported an UAF problem[1]. Besides that,
the method also brings other potential UAF problems, for example:
reboot kworker
ubi_wl_reboot_notifier
ubi_wl_close

W25N01JW and W25N02JW use a different technology with higher frequencies
supported (up to 166MHz). There is one drawback though, the slowest
READ_FROM_CACHE command cannot run above 54MHz. Because of that, we need
to set a limit for these chips on the basic READ_FROM_CACHE variant.
Duplicating this list is not a problem because these chips have DTR
support, and the list of supported variants will diverge from all the
other chips when adding support for it.

Currently the best variant picked in the first one in the list provided
in the manufacturer driver. This worked well while all operations where
performed at the same speed, but with the introduction of DTR transfers
and per operation maximum frequencies, this no longer works correctly.
Let's continue iterating over all the alternatives, even if we find a
match, keeping a reference over the theoretically fastest
operation. Only at the end we can tell which variant is the best.
This logic happening only once at boot, the extra computing needed
compared to the previous version is acceptable wrt. the expected
improvements.

So far, the SPINAND_PAGE_READ_FROM_CACHE_OP macro was taking a first
argument, "fast", which was inducing the possibility to support higher
bus frequencies than with the normal (slower) read from cache
alternative. In practice, without frequency change on the bus, this was
likely without effect, besides perhaps allowing another variant of the
same command, that could run at the default highest speed. If we want to
support this fully, we need to add a frequency parameter to the slowest
command. But before we do that, let's drop the "fast" boolean from the
macro and duplicate it, this will further help supporting having
different frequencies allowed for each variant.
The change is also of course propagated to all users. It has the nice
effect to have all macros aligned on the same pattern.

This reverts commit 98d1fb94ce.
The commit uses data nbits instead of addr nbits for dummy phase. This
causes a regression for all boards where spi-tx-bus-width is smaller
than spi-rx-bus-width. It is a common pattern for boards to have
spi-tx-bus-width == 1 and spi-rx-bus-width > 1. The regression causes
all reads with a dummy phase to become unavailable for such boards,
leading to a usually slower 0-dummy-cycle read being selected.
Most controllers' supports_op hooks call spi_mem_default_supports_op().
In spi_mem_default_supports_op(), spi_mem_check_buswidth() is called to
check if the buswidths for the op can actually be supported by the
board's wiring. This wiring information comes from (among other things)
the spi-{tx,rx}-bus-width DT properties. Based on these properties,
SPI_TX_* or SPI_RX_* flags are set by of_spi_parse_dt().
spi_mem_check_buswidth() then uses these flags to make the decision
whether an op can be supported by the board's wiring (in a way,
indirectly checking against spi-{rx,tx}-bus-width).
Now the tricky bit here is that spi_mem_check_buswidth() does:
if (op->dummy.nbytes &&
spi_check_buswidth_req(mem, op->dummy.buswidth, true))
return false;
The true argument to spi_check_buswidth_req() means the op is treated as
a TX op. For a board that has say 1-bit TX and 4-bit RX, a 4-bit dummy
TX is considered as unsupported, and the op gets rejected.
The commit being reverted uses the data buswidth for dummy buswidth. So
for reads, the RX buswidth gets used for the dummy phase, uncovering
this issue. In reality, a dummy phase is neither RX nor TX. As the name
suggests, these are just dummy cycles that send or receive no data, and
thus don't really need to have any buswidth at all.
Ideally, dummy phases should not be checked against the board's wiring
capabilities at all, and should only be sanity-checked for having a sane
buswidth value. Since we are now at rc7 and such a change might
introduce many unexpected bugs, revert the commit for now. It can be
sent out later along with the spi_mem_check_buswidth() fix.

In the spi subsystem, the bus frequency is derived as follows:
- the controller may expose a minimum and maximum operating frequency
- the hardware description, through the spi peripheral properties,
advise what is the maximum acceptable frequency from a device/wiring
point of view.
Transfers must be observed at a frequency which fits both (so in
practice, the lowest maximum).
Actually, this second point mixes two information and already takes the
lowest frequency among:
- what the spi device is capable of (what is written in the component
datasheet)
- what the wiring allows (electromagnetic sensibility, crossovers,
terminations, antenna effect, etc).
This logic works until spi devices are no longer capable of sustaining
their highest frequency regardless of the operation. Spi memories are
typically subject to such variation. Some devices are capable of
spitting their internally stored data (essentially in read mode) at a
very fast rate, typically up to 166MHz on Winbond SPI-NAND chips, using
"fast" commands. However, some of the low-end operations, such as
regular page read-from-cache commands, are more limited and can only be
executed at 54MHz at most. This is currently a problem in the SPI-NAND
subsystem. Another situation, even if not yet supported, will be with
DTR commands, when the data is latched on both edges of the clock. The
same chips as mentioned previously are in this case limited to
80MHz. Yet another example might be continuous reads, which, under
certain circumstances, can also run at most at 104 or 120MHz.
As a matter of fact, the "one frequency per chip" policy is outdated and
more fine grain configuration is needed: we need to allow per-operation
frequency limitations. So far, all datasheets I encountered advertise a
maximum default frequency, which need to be lowered for certain specific
operations. So based on the current infrastructure, we can still expect
firmware (device trees in general) to continued advertising the same
maximum speed which is a mix between the PCB limitations and the chip
maximum capability, and expect per-operation lower frequencies when this
is relevant.
Add a `struct spi_mem_op` member to carry this information. Not
providing this field explicitly from upper layers means that there is no
further constraint and the default spi device maximum speed will be
carried instead. The SPI_MEM_OP() macro is also expanded with an
optional frequency argument, because virtually all operations can be
subject to such a limitation, and this will allow for a smooth and
discrete transition.
For controller drivers which do not implement the spi-mem interface, the
per-transfer speed is also set acordingly to a lower (than the maximum
default) speed when relevant.
