The RK3308B is a revision of the RK3308 including different iomux
register layout.
Several pins (GPIO2_A2, GPIO2_A3, GPIO2_C0, GPIO3_B2, GPIO3_B3)
have 3-bit mux fields in new GRF registers (SOC_CON13 at 0x608 and
SOC_CON15 at 0x610) that override the standard 2-bit fields.
I believe the bootloader sets the sel_src_ctrl bits to activate these
new registers, which causes the kernel's writes to the old 2-bit iomux
registers to be silently ignored.
Without this patch, SPI1, I2C3, and other peripherals that depend on
these pins are completely non-functional on my RK3308B boards.
Detect the SoC variant at runtime by reading the chip_id register at GRF
offset 0x800 (0xcea = RK3308, 0x3308/0x3308c = RK3308B), as requested
by reviewers of the earlier series.
When RK3308B is detected, swap in the correct mux_recalced and mux_route
tables and write the sel_src_ctrl bits to ensure the 3-bit mux registers
are active.
This is a rework of Dmitry Yashin's series [1] which used a separate
device tree compatible string ("rockchip,rk3308b-pinctrl") to
distinguish the variants.
Reviewers Luca Ceresoli and Heiko Stuebner agreed that runtime detection
was preferable since boards are manufactured with both RK3308 and RK3308B
using the same device tree.
Jonas Karlman implemented runtime detection based on the GRF_CHIP_ID
register [2]. Reviewers asked for more changes (constifying some
arrays), but the series was never resubmitted and was dropped.
I run this patch on my Rock Pi S boards, the newer ones I've got in
2024 use the RK3308B. And thanks to runtime detection we should still
be compatible with older devices (but I couldn't test on RK3308 as I
don't have any).

Extract the per-bank recalced_mask and route_mask computation out of
rockchip_pinctrl_get_soc_data() into a separate function and call it
from rockchip_pinctrl_probe().
This allows SoC-specific init code to swap the mux tables before
the masks are computed.

The mux_recalced_data and mux_route_data arrays are never modified after
initialization. Mark them const so they can be placed in read-only
memory. Also constify the corresponding struct fields in
rockchip_pin_ctrl and local pointer variables.
This is inspired by review comments on Dmitry Yashin's earlier
RK3308B series [1].

This patch extends the sh-pfc GPIO driver to support software-node-based
configuration for the secondary 'function' GPIO chip.
While the primary GPIO chip typically uses the firmware node attached to
the parent platform device, the secondary chip should target a specific
child node to avoid ambiguity when defining GPIO hogs or properties.
Update gpio_function_setup() to look for a child node named 'functions',
but only when the parent is a software node. This ensures the behavior
is restricted to legacy platforms being migrated to software nodes.

The sh-pfc driver registers two separate gpiochip instances: one for
real GPIOs and another for function GPIOs. Since both share the same
parent platform device, gpiolib's fallback logic causes both chips to
share the same firmware node (fwnode).
This causes ambiguity when using software nodes to describe GPIOs, as
gpiolib may apply hogs meant for one chip to the other if they share the
same node.
Explicitly set gc->fwnode to ERR_PTR(-ENODEV) for the function GPIO
chip. This satisfies gpiolib's check for an existing fwnode and prevents
it from falling back to the parent device's node, while ensuring that no
actual properties or hogs are found on the function chip unless
explicitly assigned later.

Commit 28f2406838 ("pinctrl: meson: mark the GPIO controller as
sleeping") set gpio_chip.can_sleep = true to work around
gpio-shared-proxy holding a spinlock across a sleeping pinctrl config
path. That locking bug is now fixed in the shared-proxy itself ("gpio:
shared-proxy: always serialize with a sleeping mutex"), so the
controller-wide workaround is no longer needed; the meson GPIO
controller does not sleep.
meson_gpio_get/set/direction_* access MMIO through regmap. The
regmap_mmio bus uses fast I/O (spinlock) locking, so these value
callbacks do not contain sleeping operations. Since gpio_chip.can_sleep
describes the get/set value path, restore can_sleep = false.
Marking the controller sleeping also broke atomic value consumers such
as w1-gpio (1-Wire bitbang): w1_io.c runs its read time slot under
local_irq_save() and uses the non-cansleep gpiod_set_value() /
gpiod_get_value(), which with can_sleep=true trigger WARN_ON(can_sleep)
in gpiolib on every transferred bit (from w1_gpio_write_bit() /
w1_gpio_read_bit() via w1_reset_bus() and w1_search()). The printk and
stack dump inside the IRQs-off, microsecond-scale time slot destroy the
bit timing, so reset/presence detection and ROM search fail: the bus
master registers but w1_master_slave_count stays at 0 and no devices
are found. Verified on an Amlogic A113X board (DS18B20 on GPIOA_14):
with can_sleep restored to false the warnings are gone and the sensor
is detected and read again.
This must not be applied or backported without the shared-proxy locking
fix above; otherwise the original Khadas VIM3 splat returns on boards
that genuinely share a meson GPIO.

GPIO interrupts that are wakeup capable need to be forwarded to wakeup
capable parent irqchip. This is done via writing to it's wakeup_enable bit.
Currently the bit is set only for PDC irqchip by checking skip_wake_irqs.
skip_wake_irqs is set to differentiate between parent irqchips MPM and
PDC. It is set when the parent irqchip is PDC to inform pinctrl about
skipping the IRQ setting up at TLMM.
However, the functionality to forward GPIO interrupts during SoC low
power mode is needed regardless of which parent irqchip it is.
Without the functionality it is impossible for MPM irqchip to detect the
GPIO interrupt during SoC low power mode since for MPM irqchip the
skip_wake_irqs is always false.
Remove skip_wake_irqs condition when setting wakeup enable bit to allow
forwarding GPIO interrupts for SoCs using MPM irqchip too.

If the devm_pinctrl_register() function fails,
bcm2835_pinctrl_probe() calls gpiochip_remove()
before gpiochip_add_data() has registered the GPIO chip.
This means that upon failure the gpio_chip.gpiodev
is NULL resulting in a null pointer dereference
inside the gpiochip_remove() function.
Remove the unnecessary function call to gpiochip_remove().
No GPIO cleanup is required because the GPIO chip
has not yet been registered. Without this change there
is potential for a kernel panic upon registration failure

The JTAGM1 group includes the D12 ball carrying the TRST signal, but
TRST is optional for a JTAG master and the ball may be needed for other
functions on designs that do not wire it. With TRST embedded in the
group, such designs cannot use the JTAG master at all.
Move D12 into a new JTAGM1TRST group under the same JTAGM1 function so
TRST is muxed only when a board requests it. Boards that do use TRST
now need to select both the JTAGM1 and JTAGM1TRST groups.

tlmm_test_rising_while_disabled() sets thread_op_remain to 10, but this
variable is only used by the threaded IRQ handler to control the number
of GPIO pin toggles. Since tlmm_test_rising_while_disabled() does not
register a threaded IRQ handler, the assignment is never used.
Similarly, tlmm_test_high() and tlmm_test_low() set intr_op_remain to 9,
but the variable is used to denote the IRQ handler the number of times
GPIO signal has to be toggled from the hard IRQ handler.
Since tlmm_test_high() and tlmm_test_low() themselves toggle the
signal and do not require the hard IRQ handler to do it, the assignment is
never used.
Remove the thread_op_remain assignment from
tlmm_test_rising_while_disabled() and intr_op_remain assignment from
tlmm_test_high() and tlmm_test_low() test cases.
This does not cause any change in functionality.

The Allwinner A10 and H3 SoCs cannot read the state of a GPIO line when
that line is muxed for IRQ triggering (muxval 6), but only if it's
explicitly muxed for GPIO input (muxval 0). Other SoCs do not show this
behaviour, so we added a optional workaround, triggered by a quirk bit,
which triggers remuxing the pin when it's configured for IRQ, while we
need to read its value.
For some reasons this quirk flag was copied over to newer SoCs, even
though they don't show this behaviour, and the GPIO data register
reflects the true GPIO state even with a pin muxed to IRQ trigger.
Remove the unneeded quirk from the A523 family, where it's definitely
not needed (confirmed by experiments), and where it actually breaks,
because the workaround is not compatible with the newer generation
pinctrl IP used in that chip.
Together with a DT change this fixes GPIO IRQ operation on the A523
family of SoCs, as for instance used for the SD card detection.

several pinctrl drivers, but this change also removed a dependency
on CONFIG_OF for some of those drivers.
Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but PINCTRL_STMFX also selected
MFD_STMFX, which does depend on CONFIG_OF. This conflict allows
MFD_STMFX to be enabled even if CONFIG_OF is disabled.
Fix this by also having PINCTRL_STMFX depend on CONFIG_OF. This is
okay because the pinctrl-stmfx driver actually does depend on CONFIG_OF

added reg-names property based register reading. However multiple platforms

however this condition is unreachable as the error return precedes it by
just checking if reg-names property exists or not, making it impossible

MSM_PULL_MASK is used to isolate the GPIO_PULL bits before writing the

Convert the LPASS LPI pinctrl driver to use the PM clock framework for
runtime power management.
This allows the LPASS LPI pinctrl driver to drop clock votes when idle,
improves power efficiency on platforms using LPASS LPI island mode, and
aligns the driver with common runtime PM patterns used across Qualcomm
LPASS subsystems.
Guard GPIO register read/write helpers and slew-rate register programming
with synchronous runtime PM calls so the device is active during MMIO
operations whenever autosuspend is enabled.
Make PINCTRL_LPASS_LPI depend on PM_CLK, since this patch introduces
direct PM clock API use in the shared core.

The LPASS LPI core conversion to PM clock framework relies on variant
drivers wiring runtime PM callbacks.
Hook up runtime PM callbacks for the LPASS LPI variant drivers touched
in this patch so they are prepared for the shared core conversion.
This commit is a preparatory NOP on its own, as runtime PM is still
disabled on these devices until the following core conversion patch.
This is a mechanical per-variant driver update that relies on the
same generic PM clock flow (of_pm_clk_add_clks() + pm_clk_suspend/
pm_clk_resume()) and DT-provided clocks.
Runtime behavior was validated on Kodiak (sc7280).

aspeed_g7_soc1_gpio_request_enable() unconditionally writes mux
function 0 to route the requested pin to GPIO. This is wrong for the
ADC-capable balls W17 through AB19 (ADC0-ADC15), where function 0
selects the ADC input and function 1 selects GPIO. Requesting one of
those GPIOs therefore muxed the ball to ADC instead.
Write mux value 1 for balls W17 through AB19 so the GPIO function is
actually selected.

Before commit 14dbe186b9 ("pinctrl: msmgpio: Make the irqchip immutable")
msm gpio irqchip conditionally initialized pctrl->irq_chip.irq_eoi to
irq_chip_eoi_parent() only for the GPIO irqs having a wakeup capable irq.
In order to make gpio irqchip immutable pctrl->irq_chip.irq_eoi is
initialized to msm_gpio_irq_eoi() which now gets invoked for both wake up
and non-wakeup capable GPIO IRQs.
Replace open coded eoi call to parent irqchip with irq_chip_eoi_parent().
Since the irq_chip_*_parent() APIs internally do not check the valid parent
data is present to ensure irq_chip_eoi_parent() is only invoked for wakeup
capable GPIOs validate d->parent_data within msm_gpio_irq_eoi().
For non wakeup capable GPIOs d->parent_data will be NULL since parent
irqchip diconnects hierarchy using irq_domain_disconnect_hierarchy() and
later irq framework trims hierarchy using irq_domain_trim_hierarchy() which
makes d->parent_data as NULL.
No functional impact.

The pinctrl and GPIO core code make exceptions for the -ENOTSUPP error
code. One such example is gpio_set_config_with_argument_optional(), which
returns success when gpio_set_config_with_argument() returns -ENOTSUPP, but
reports failure for all other error codes.
Returning -EOPNOTSUPP from the pinctrl driver on the unsupported pinctrl
operation may lead to boot failures when pinctrl drivers implements
struct gpio_chip::set_config, the system uses GPIO hogs, and the
struct gpio_chip::set_config implementation returns -EOPNOTSUPP for the
unsupported operations.
Currently, the driver does not implement struct gpio_chip::set_config().
To avoid future failures, return -ENOTSUPP from
rzv2m_pinctrl_pinconf_set().
rzv2m_pinctrl_pinconf_group_get() is used when dumping pinctrl
configuration. pinconf_generic_dump_one(), which calls it, makes
exceptions for the -EINVAL and -ENOTSUPP error codes. The documentation
for struct pinconf_ops::pin_config_group_get states that it "should
return -ENOTSUPP and -EINVAL using the same rules as pin_config_get()".
The documentation for struct pinconf_ops::pin_config_get states:
"get the config of a certain pin, if the requested config is not available
on this controller this should return -ENOTSUPP and if it is available but
disabled it should return -EINVAL".
Return -ENOTSUPP for the unsupported pinctrl operation.

Akin to my recently added pinctrl_generic_pins_functions_dt_node_to_map(),
create an analogue that performs the same role of dynamically creating
groups at runtime for controllers using the pinmux property.
The pinmux property is freeform, so this function mandates that the
upper 16 bits contain the pin and the lower 16 bits contains the mux
setting. The group's data pointer is populated with an array of the mux
settings for each pin it contains.
Since the node parsing and subsequent pinctrl core function calls are
practically identical to the pins + functions case, other than which
properties are examined, it makes sense to extract the common code from
pinctrl_generic_pins_function_dt_node_to_map() into a generic function
that takes the case-specific devicetree parsing function as an argument.

By configuring the output value before switching the pin direction to

spacemit_pin_set_config() looks up the per-pin descriptor with
spacemit_get_pin() then checks the wrong variable for failure:
const struct spacemit_pin *spin = spacemit_get_pin(pctrl, pin);
...
if (!pin)
return -EINVAL;
reg = spacemit_pin_to_reg(pctrl, spin->pin);
pin is an unsigned int pin id, where 0 (GPIO_0 / gmac0_rxdv on K3) is a
valid pin, so rejecting it here drops the PAD config write for the first
pin of every group. On K3 Pico-ITX the GMAC RGMII group lists pin 0 as
its first entry, so its drive-strength / bias configuration was silently
ignored.
The intended guard is against spacemit_get_pin() returning NULL when the
pin id isn't in the SoC's pin table. Check spin instead, which both
restores PAD setup for pin 0 and prevents a NULL deref on spin->pin.

Unlike legacy ASPEED pin controllers, the SoC1 pin function control
fields are highly regular, which makes it practical to describe the
packed-field register layout directly in driver data rather than reuse
the existing Aspeed pinctrl macro infrastructure.
The driver uses the generic pinctrl, pinmux and pinconf frameworks.
The controller registers are accessed via regmap from the parent
syscon, allowing shared ownership of the SCU register block.

Currently, the pinctrl core strictly requires all drivers to implement
.get_groups_count and .get_group_name callbacks in their pinctrl_ops.
However, for simple pinctrl drivers that act purely as GPIO controllers
and pin-specific configuration proxies, without any concept of muxing or
pin groups, this strict requirement forces the implementation of dummy
callbacks just to satisfy pinctrl_check_ops().
Relax this requirement for pin-only drivers by making the group callbacks
optional when no muxing or group pin configuration support is provided.
Update the core and debugfs helpers to check for the existence of these
callbacks before invoking them.
Drivers that provide muxing or group pin configuration operations still
must implement group enumeration and naming callbacks, and are rejected
at registration time if they do not.

QUP1_SE4 uses GPIO36 and GPIO37 for two selectable lane pairs. The
current driver exposes lanes 0, 1, 2 and 3 as independent functions.
However, since these are usually configured in pairs in devicetree,
it makes more sense to merge them into groups.
So merge the per-lane functions into qup1_se4_01 and qup1_se4_23, and list
both GPIO36 and GPIO37 in each function group.

On Lenovo Yoga 7 14AGP11 (83TD), the WACF2200 touchscreen controller
is wired via I2C2 (AMDI0010:02) with its interrupt on GPIO pin 157
(confirmed via ACPI _CRS GpioInt decode). After amd_gpio_irq_init()
clears all GPIO interrupts at boot, pin 157 is never re-enabled,
preventing the touchscreen from signalling the driver.
Windows keeps GPIO 157 INTERRUPT_ENABLE (bit 11) and INTERRUPT_MASK
(bit 12) set after initialisation. Add a DMI quirk to restore these
bits after amd_gpio_irq_init() on this hardware.

pinctrl_gpio_direction_input() / pinctrl_gpio_direction_output() take
the pinctrl mutex. This causes a gpiochip operations to need to sleep.
Worse yet, the .can_sleep field in the gpiochip is not set. This causes
the shared GPIO proxy to trip over, as it uses gpiod_cansleep() to check
whether it can use a spinlock or needs a mutex. In this case, it ends
up taking a spinlock, then calls pinctrl_gpio_direction_output(), which
takes a mutex. This causes a huge warning.
Since the Mediatek hardware has separate clear/set registers, there is
no risk of clobbering other bits like with a read-modify-write pattern.
Also, once the GPIO function is selected / muxed in, further GPIO
operations do not involve pinctrl operations or state. The GPIO direction
and level values do not require toggling the pinmux or any other pin config
options.
Switch to directly calling mtk_pmx_gpio_set_direction() in the GPIO set
direction callbacks to avoid taking the pinctrl mutex. Drop the
.gpio_set_direction field in mtk_pmx_ops to signal we are no longer using
the pinctrl GPIO layer for setting the direction.

The old format to define pinctrl settings for imx in DT has two hierarchy
levels. The first level are function device nodes. The second level are
pingroups which contain a property fsl,pins. The original ntention was to
define all pin functions in a single dtsi file and just reference the
correct ones in the board files.
The commit ("5fcdf6a7ed95e pinctrl: imx: Allow parsing DT without function

The main SoC TLMM (Top-Level Multiplexer) pin controller drivers are
essential for booting up SoCs and are not really optional for a given
platform. Kernel should not ask users choice of drivers when that
choice is obvious and known to the developers that answer should be
'yes' or 'module'.
Switch all Qualcomm TLMM pin controller drivers to a default 'yes' for
ARCH_QCOM. This has impact:
1. arm64 defconfig: enable PINCTRL_SM7150, PINCTRL_IPQ9650 and
PINCTRL_HAWI, which were not selected before but should be, because
these platforms need them for proper boot.
2. arm qcom_defconfig: no changes.
3. arm multi_v7 defconfig: enable drivers necessary to boot ARM 32-bit
platforms, which are already enabled on qcom_defconfig.
4. COMPILE_TEST builds: enable by default all drivers for arm or arm64
builds, whenever ARCH_QCOM is selected. This has impact on build
time and feels logical, because if one selects ARCH_QCOM then
probably by default wants to build test it entirely. Kernels with
COMPILE_TEST are not supposed to be used for booting.
