Char/Misc/IIO/etc driver update for 7.3-rc1
Here is the big set of char, misc, iio, counter, fpga, and other small
driver subsystems for 7.3-rc1.
Overall, due to some driver removals we only added a bit more code than
removed, which was a nice change. Highlights in this merge request are:
- Loads of IIO driver updates and additions
- binder driver updates (more on that below...)
- Removal of the SGI XP and GRU drivers as they are not used anymore
and turn out to be pretty insecure overall
- Removal of the obsolete ibmasm driver as it's not being used anymore
- Coresight driver updates and additions
- Mei driver udpates
- Counter driver updates
- FPGA driver updates
- ICC driver updates
- lots and lots of other tiny driver updates to resolve reported
issues
All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with the only reported
issues being some major merge conflicts. Miguel pointed out some of
these with the Rust tree merge, which is the majority of them. I'll
follow up with a diffstat of the merge resolution I made against your
most recent tree, which works for me.

MHI Host
-------- - Add SAHARA channel support in the pci_generic driver for Foxconn products. This allows capturing crashdump (ramdump) using the in-kernel sahara client driver. - Add support for devices with no M3 state. Some devices do not support the M3 power state due to hardware issues. For those devices, MHI bus will now run the full host-side suspend/resume sequence but skip the device-side M3/M0 handshake, so any transfer queued by clients during suspend is deferred until resume. - Set 'mhi_cntrl->no_m3' flag in the pci_generic driver for the QDU100 device so that the MHI bus also skips the M3 transition during system suspend. Earlier, the flag was only used to disable runtime PM, but the system suspend path was still transitioning the device to M3. - Fix sys error transition latency by polling for the state transition in mhi_pm_sys_error_transition() instead of waiting up to 24 seconds for an interrupt from the device. Since a device that has been reset (e.g., via AT!RESET) is not guaranteed to raise one. - Flush the posted write after writing to MHI_SOC_RESET_REQ_OFFSET in mhi_soc_reset() so that the reset actually reaches the device before the caller's post-reset delay begins. - Fix controller cleanup on EDL sysfs failure in mhi_register_controller(). The error path was leaving the device registered when sysfs_create_file() failed. MHI Endpoint ------------ - Add mhi_cntrl->flush_async() callback to drain the in-flight async DMA read/write operations issued through the MHI controller driver. This is used by the MHI EP stack before disconnect to avoid UAF where a late DMA completion could invoke a now-invalid xfer_cb(). - Implement the flush_async() callback in the PCI EPF MHI controller driver by waiting for the in-flight DMA operations to complete and then flushing the DMA workqueue. Since I'm the maintainer for this PCI EPF driver, I'm taking this patch through MHI tree due to dependency. - Flush the in-flight async transfers before notifying disconnect in mhi_ep_abort_transfer() to fix a UAF, where a success callback delivered after the -ENOTCONN notification could reference resources already freed by the client. - Fix device refcount leak in the error path of mhi_ep_create_device() when dev_set_name() or device_add() fails. Common ------ - Clean up kernel-doc warnings in include/linux/mhi.h. - Add Jeff Hugo as the Reviewer of MHI bus. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQEzBAABCgAdFiEEZ6VDKoFIy9ikWCeXVZ8R5v6RzvUFAmp1ccAACgkQVZ8R5v6R zvX0JwgAhBLZ58NVLu194k1Y5CuSje6qOz0BwP33eLJcjzahkOtwue9Z7M4qZaxQ RlPQ6Eugqw6StN0orAiYjpitTS9efQ6MidJHYTDXb3f+9LvOoYwW7UquYKdxKs/3 qf9nY3ITeBWa/yOaKnkOjK8hb6LQYccMcS0J8t0BojqN0ReT8hzxHPekS50xlTsa ltUGC4J7gsLWzjuxbQXwL/xOjoRorF+fqDDTdAFBo3CqiAWe0fBVIIqifKH36m5U SRNNVNRcsGMHR4fTPBieLxgp28d5Von1Dqj4+Qh3IN2vECYAdvCX9SvGim0vsvXD j3FwrEmQniNNtndJ9Zrk20ismlN2rA== =491M -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'mhi-for-v7.3' of ssh://gitolite.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mani/mhi into char-misc-next Manivannan writes: MHI Host -------- - Add SAHARA channel support in the pci_generic driver for Foxconn products. bus: fsl-mc: drop unused assignment of acpi_device_id::driver_data
This module sets the acpi_device_id::driver_data to 0 but the field is not actually used within the module, we can just drop it from the table. While we are at it - use a named initializer for the acpi_device_id::id field as well to make the code more readable. bus: mhi: ep: Flush async transfers before notifying disconnect in mhi_ep_abort_transfer()
mhi_ep_abort_transfer() notifies the client drivers about the channel disconnect using -ENOTCONN and only then flushes the ring workqueue to drain the in-flight transfers. But the async DMA transfers issued by the ring workers can still complete after the notification. And the completion handlers trigger the client xfer_cb() as long as it is set. So a transfer completing during the flush can deliver a success callback to the client even after it has been notified about the disconnect. This can lead to UAF (Use-After-Free) issues as the client can free its per-transfer resources in response to the -ENOTCONN notification and the trailing success callback would then reference the freed resources. So to fix this issue, disable all the channels first to prevent new transfers and then drain both the ring workqueue and the in-flight async transfers before notifying the disconnect. The completion and queue paths bail out once the channel state is not MHI_CH_STATE_RUNNING, so disabling the channels upfront makes sure that no new transfer sneaks in during the drain and all the pending completions are delivered while xfer_cb() is still valid. bus: mhi: ep: Add mhi_cntrl->flush_async() callback to flush the async read/write
MHI EP stack makes use of the MHI controller drivers like MHI EPF to do read/write to the host memory. And that driver is free to use mechanisms like DMA to offload the read/write operations. So if DMA is used for offload, then there is no guarantee that those DMA operations would be completed by the time mhi_ep_remove() gets called. This can lead to UAF (Use-After-Free) issues as the DMA callback can trigger xfer_cb() even after mhi_ep_remove() has returned. So to fix this issue, introduce the mhi_cntrl->flush_async() callback and call it in mhi_ep_remove() to drain all the in-flight async transfers before disconnecting the channels. The completion handlers keep triggering xfer_cb() as long as it is set. So flushing the transfers after notifying the client about the disconnect (-ENOTCONN) would still let a success callback slip through afterwards and lead to the same UAF. So disable the channels first to prevent new transfers, then flush the in-flight transfers so that their completions are delivered while xfer_cb() is still valid and only then notify the disconnect and clear xfer_cb(). bus: mhi: host: Fix controller cleanup on EDL sysfs failure
mhi_register_controller() adds the controller device before creating the

Hence, call device_del() in the error path before put_device().

bus: mhi: host: Add support for devices with no M3 state
MHI bus transitions the device into M3 state during suspend and back to M0 state during resume. But due to hardware issues, some devices do not support M3 state. To support these devices properly, MHI bus needs to skip transitioning the device to M3 during suspend and back to M0 during resume. For this purpose, introduce the 'mhi_cntrl->no_m3' flag and allow it to be set by the MHI controller drivers. Once set, this flag lets the MHI bus skip transitioning the device to M3/M0 during suspend/resume. But, simply skipping suspend/resume for such devices is not sufficient, as it leaves the MHI host in M0 state with device access enabled. Client drivers that do not implement PM callbacks (for instance, the non-freezable rx_refill worker in mhi_net driver) could then keep ringing channel doorbells and issue MMIO to the device even after the controller driver has disabled it and moved it to D3 during its own suspend, resulting in access to a powered down device. So instead of skipping the entire suspend/resume operation, run the full host suspend/resume sequence but without the device-side M state handshake. During suspend, only transition the host to M3 without sending the MHICTRL M3 command or waiting for the device M3 event. During resume, bring the host back to M0 through mhi_pm_m0_transition() without sending the MHICTRL M0 command. With the host in M3, all device access is gated by MHI_DB_ACCESS_VALID() and MHI_REG_ACCESS_VALID(), so any transfer queued by the clients during suspend is deferred until resume, where mhi_pm_m0_transition() rings the pending doorbells. bus: mhi: host: Flush the posted write after writing to MHI_SOC_RESET_REQ_OFFSET
mhi_soc_reset() tries to reset the device by writing to the
MHI_SOC_RESET_REQ_OFFSET register. But it doesn't do a read-back to ensure
that the write gets flushed to the device before returning to the caller.
This may lead to the delay (if implemented) on the caller to be
insufficient, if the posted write doesn't reach the device before the
delay.
So add a read-back after writing to the MHI_SOC_RESET_REQ_OFFSET register.

bus: qcom-ebi2: use managed resources for clocks and children
qcom_ebi2_probe() enables the EBI2 clocks manually and populates child
devices manually. Several later failure paths can then return without
disabling the clocks or without relying on the driver core to undo child
population.
Use devm_clk_get_enabled() for both clocks and
devm_of_platform_populate() for children. This lets the driver core
unwind the resources automatically and removes the hand-written error

bus: mhi: ep: Fix device refcount leak in the error path of MHI device creation
mhi_ep_create_device() takes one device reference for the UL channel and
another for the DL channel after allocating the transfer device. These
references are normally released by mhi_ep_destroy_device() before the
device itself is removed.
If dev_set_name() or device_add() fails, the error path currently drops
only one reference. The remaining channel references keep the device
from being released and leave the channels associated with a device that
was never registered.
Route both failures through a common unwind path that drops the DL
channel reference, the UL channel reference, and the initial reference
from device_initialize().

bus: mhi: core: Fix sys error transition latency
Bring forward the idea to fix the power down latency in mhi_pm_disable_transition() further to mhi_pm_sys_error_transition() so that the transition into system error (triggered by AT!RESET) in the modems won't have to return only after the timeout of up to 24 seconds. Once the device gets reset, there is no guarantee that it will send an interrupt to indicate the state transition. So polling is the sensible option here. Allwinner driver changes for 7.2
Mostly changes to the SRAM driver to allow for one SRAM region to be "claimed" by multiple changes. When a region is "claimed" it is removed or disconnected from the CPU's view. This is needed on the H6 and H616, which have one alias region seemingly shared between the video codec engine and the display engine. One minor fix for the RSB driver is also included. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQJEBAABCgAuFiEE2nN1m/hhnkhOWjtHOJpUIZwPJDAFAmod2AsQHHdlbnNAa2Vy bmVsLm9yZwAKCRA4mlQhnA8kMCUND/4h+xocrSMz4T+gHAvffsGItDQrtyLreXem GNIdY7whCRo+6KgipnTgXtvqRCzBhiQx9PYM3BTLNLUCURdM0NAcooE/f1kidVOI BHOTvfX1cy9eoGVJpZnfMAdMT/MlIw6LC7C1n1y8H14q1ERWkAOeO+k1VE9lMbIj jI9YWCFPvq29F+gEZAlCZXZnMWkgrJiLixnVYyi32P1k/u3ykqoNx7TKHWPsWaj5 /lS22YJUkcf0ARAJhcTElxYLytuhUCE68KKYVD7cN8uojebbcTAJLSkO7INtEdD/ USkY5sdq1cmDQ42ejgSPkcaL3etwBAha1NceKFLEAYVto6GUziOmXaGw8TLJVMD7 8ILjzOVj28iUADqy43tvwkqzDNDgn1xy+wmZSiSb6b9N+htDNKHh37R8NeJd0EwY 8YC/r5H5JqwBFQ0PWXHnjeFNlp6lBZ3G/QWU9ztnsCaDKp8P4jtl8wCF843lACtj BKPFCQ/+dkAlxExClaUo1JewJqhjyghpLmoWRMy/azbkdx7B100hH3DabAicN7JH 1lJ+rvIgTmmlwmGYceQ6sdg//M1b+3emTQ2kX3cgPCra8srKnp5ZkJzwtK0J9OHv XEFzB9rtvBPYvKt0dk/eaQAKAZIq82j9vdrtMzI1A5LeUF3VMEr7BxXxplBdwAH6 TSIElm0ktA== =n5X7 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'sunxi-drivers-for-7.2' of ssh://gitolite.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/sunxi/linux into soc/drivers Allwinner driver changes for 7.2 Mostly changes to the SRAM driver to allow for one SRAM region to be "claimed" by multiple changes. bus: sunxi-rsb: Always check register address validity
The register address was already validated for read operations in
regmap_sunxi_rsb_reg_read before being truncated to a u8. Write operations
have the same set of possible addresses, and the address is being truncated
from u32 to u8 here as well, so the same check is needed.

bus: mhi: ep: Add missing state_lock protection for mhi_state access
The mhi_cntrl->mhi_state field should be protected by state_lock to ensure atomic state transitions. However, mhi_ep_power_up() access mhi_state without holding this lock, which can race with concurrent state transitions and lead to state corruption. Add proper state_lock protection around mhi_state access. Fixes: |

bus: mhi: ep: Fix potential deadlock in mhi_ep_reset_worker()
There is a potential deadlock scenario in mhi_ep_reset_worker() where
the state_lock mutex is acquired twice in the same call chain:
mhi_ep_reset_worker()
mutex_lock(&mhi_cntrl->state_lock)
mhi_ep_power_up()
mhi_ep_set_ready_state()
mutex_lock(&mhi_cntrl->state_lock) <- Deadlock
Fix this by releasing the state_lock before calling mhi_ep_power_up().
The lock is only needed to protect current MHI state read operation. The
lock can be safely released before proceeding with the power up sequence.

Here is the char/misc/iio and other smaller driver subsystem updates for
7.1-rc1. Lots of stuff in here, all tiny, but relevant for the
different drivers they touch. Major points in here is:
- the usual large set of new IIO drivers and updates for that
subsystem (the large majority of this diffstat)
- lots of comedi driver updates and bugfixes
- coresight driver updates
- interconnect driver updates and additions
- mei driver updates
- binder (both rust and C versions) updates and fixes
- lots of other smaller driver subsystem updates and additions
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported

bus: fsl-mc: use generic driver_override infrastructure
When a driver is probed through __driver_attach(), the bus' match()
callback is called without the device lock held, thus accessing the
driver_override field without a lock, which can cause a UAF.
Fix this by using the driver-core driver_override infrastructure taking
care of proper locking internally.
Note that calling match() from __driver_attach() without the device lock
held is intentional. [1]

bus: fsl-mc: wait for the MC firmware to complete its boot
There are use cases in which the Management Complex firmware boot process is started by the bootloader which does not wait for the boot to complete. This is mainly done in order to reduce the overall boot time of a DPAA2 based SoC. In this kind of circumstance, the fsl-mc bus driver needs to make sure that the MC firmware boot process is finished before proceeding to the usual operations such as interrogating the firmware to gather all existent DPAA2 objects, creating the fsl-mc devices on the bus etc. Add this kind of check early in the boot process of the fsl-mc bus and defer the probe in case the firmware is still in its boot process. device property: Make modifications of fwnode "flags" thread safe
In various places in the kernel, we modify the fwnode "flags" member
by doing either:
fwnode->flags |= SOME_FLAG;
fwnode->flags &= ~SOME_FLAG;
This type of modification is not thread-safe. If two threads are both
mucking with the flags at the same time then one can clobber the
other.
While flags are often modified while under the "fwnode_link_lock",
this is not universally true.
Create some accessor functions for setting, clearing, and testing the
FWNODE flags and move all users to these accessor functions. New
accessor functions use set_bit() and clear_bit(), which are
thread-safe.
