Timers and timekeeping core updates:
- Fix a subtly inconsistency in the timekeeping code, which fails to
account for the monotonicity adjustment in ntp_error. For small changes
of the clocksource multiplicator (+/-1) which are typically used by the
NTP PLL this is hardly to observe. But for larger adjustments,
e.g. caused by a direct frequency setting through adjtimex() the
one-time uncompensated offset is significant.
Cure this by adjusting ntp_error with the resulting offset so that the
discrepancy is smoothed away over time
- Make tick length calculations correct in NTP. The timekeeping core
takes the quantisation of the clocksource into account when calculating
the tick length to compensate for the deviation of the nominal
NTP_INTERVAL_LENGTH. While timekeeping gets this right, NTP is not
aware of that, which means it operates on the nominal value and not on
the actual value which is determined by the clock source frequency. The
rounding of a coarse clocksource like the ACPI PM timer results in a
+127 PPM deviation.
Cure this by exposing the deviation to the NTP code so that it can
operate on the same data as the timekeeping core. This is purely kernel
internal. User space still sees the nominal tick lenght via adjtimex().
- The accuracy of the NTP adjustments is fairly approximate as the code
assumes that the invocations are precisely in NTP interval frequency
ticks and the final adjustment can over and under-run.
Cure this by adjusting ntp_error by the intended skew on each tick to
achieve the desired rate.
- Handle the two competing skews of time offset and time adjustment
correctly by calculating the conflict portion between the skews and
adjusting both accordingly.
- A set of updates and improvements for the selftests
- The usual small fixes and improvements all over the place

A very busy release, a combination of a lot of new device work and more
people than usual doing various subsystem wide improvements in the code.
The main subsystem level change is the work Morimoto-san has been doing
to get automatic DAI format selection more widely deployed, and even
that is largely changes in the drivers to enable use of the feature
rather than framework work.
- Conversions of a lot of drivers to use the automatic DAI format
selection code from Morimoto-san.
- Many fixes and code improvements from bui duc phuc and Morimoto-san.
- Fixes for ordering problems in register default tables from Peter
Ujfalusi.
- Changes to use auto-cleanup for firmware to improve robustness from
Takashi Iwai.
- Support for firmware on more Awinc devices.
- Many changes in the Qualcomm driver stack, mostly around new platform
support.
- Support for AMD ACP7.B/F, Cirrus Logic CS35L62, Loongson 2K0300,
Meson GX formatter and interface, Qualcomm LPI MI2S, SM8475 and
WSA855 and Realtek RT1321 VA1/2 and RT766/7.

fscrypt updates for 7.3
The main change this cycle is a significant simplification that's been
overdue for a while now: standardizing on a single file contents
encryption implementation in ext4 and f2fs, instead of having two.
Specifically, the original filesystem-layer file contents encryption
implementation is removed, and the blk-crypto implementation is now
used unconditionally. blk-crypto delegates either to inline crypto
hardware or to the CPU via blk-crypto-fallback. The latter is
functionally equivalent to the original filesystem-layer code.
The blk-crypto implementation already existed, but previously it was
used only when the filesystem was mounted with "-o inlinecrypt". Now,
"-o inlinecrypt" just selects whether inline crypto hardware is used.
To allow maintaining that user control over hardware use, the
blk-crypto API is extended with a new flag BLK_CRYPTO_CFG_ALLOW_HW.
Overall, this removes quite a bit of redundant code from ext4, f2fs,
and fs/crypto/. It should make things easier for ongoing filesystem
efforts such as iomap support, large folios, and btrfs encryption.
(btrfs had already been planning to use blk-crypto exclusively.)
There are two small behavior changes of note:
- Direct I/O now works on encrypted files even without
"-o inlinecrypt", rather than falling back to buffered I/O. This is
effectively a bugfix, though I'll continue to keep an eye out for
any user that may have been depending on the buffered I/O fallback.
- IV_INO_LBLK_32 policies are no longer supported in certain cases
that didn't make sense and have no known uses.
This has been in linux-next since July 22 with no reported issues.
All encryption xfstests pass on ext4 and f2fs. As usual I've also been
using it on a system with an fscrypt-encrypted home directory. Of
course, the blk-crypto code paths also aren't new and were already
being used on many systems via the inlinecrypt mount option.
In addition to the main change described above, there are a few other
cleanups such as using lock guards for mutexes, improving
documentation, and removing a workaround for outdated gcc versions.

net: af_unix: useful handling of LSM denials on SCM_RIGHTS
Right now if some LSM such as Smack denies an AF_UNIX socket peer to receive an SCM_RIGHTS fd, the SCM_RIGHTS fd array will be cut short at that point, and MSG_CTRUNC is set on return of recvmsg(). This is highly problematic behaviour, because it leaves the receiver wondering what happened. As per man page MSG_CTRUNC is supposed to indicate that the control buffer was sized too short, but suddenly a permission error might result in the exact same flag being set. Moreover, the receiver has no chance to determine how many fds got originally sent and how many were suppressed.[1] Add a SO_RIGHTS_NOTRUNC option to UNIX sockets to enable more useful handling of LSM denials when receiving SCM_RIGHTS messages: instead of truncating the message at the first blocked fd, keep every fd slot and store the LSM errno in the blocked slot. The socket option is inherited by the child accept() socket if set on the listen() socket. Pull misc vfs updates from Christian Brauner:
"Bigger cleanups:
- The lockref dead-count handling is tidied up.
The open-coded check for a count below zero as the dead marker
relies on information the caller should not have.
- make put_mnt_ns() leave mounts connected. Destroying a mount
namespace disconnected its mounts from their mount points. So a
file descriptor still open on the parent of a mount point could be
used to peek under it.
Locked mounts were already kept connected to prevent exactly that.
But a mount is only locked when its tree is copied across a user
namespace boundary. So a mount namespace set up by a privileged
component had no locked mounts and its mounts were disconnected.
Passing UMOUNT_CONNECTED keeps every mount connected and prevents
that bug.
- vfs_prepare_mode() passes S_IFDIR for directories. I meant to fix
that ago but didn't get to it. So now someone finally did it.
This kills the exception where the mode could be 0 when a directory
was created whereas every other creation operation passed it
explicitly already.
- move long delayed work for ufs, jffs2, hfsplus, hfs and affs from
the per-cpu system_long_wq to the new unbound system_dfl_long_wq.
None of that work relies on per-cpu state and the work item is
enqueued with queue_delayed_work() whose timer is global anyway. So
it may as well benefit from scheduler task placement.
Smaller fixes and cleanups:
- unlock_buffer() and journal_end_buffer_io_sync() use

Merge tag 'vfs-7.3-rc1.binfmt' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs
Pull binfmt updates from Christian Brauner:
"This contains a bunch of work for binfmt_misc. It fixes a bunch of
old bugs, reworks the locking, and then extends the format registry
so a binary type can be matched programmatically and its interpreter
computed per exec instead of being a fixed string recorded at
registration time.
This allows nixos and other to e.g., implement relocatable binaries
meaning the interpreter/dynamic loader can be determined
programatically, say found relative to the binary. The mechanism is
flexible and can support other policies:
- Handler lookup is now an rcu walk. An exec that matches no
binfmt_misc entry should now never write to a shared cacheline
- remove the VERBOSE_STATUS and USE_DEBUG compile time toggles
- convert the entry file to a seq_file which simplifies things quite
a bit and kills a lot of custom logic
- make flags proper enums
- rename struct Node to binfmt_misc_entry
- allow entries to be removed with unlink(2)
- Add the ability to attach bpf programs to binfmt_misc entries so
it's possible to dynamically choose the execution environment such
as the loader or interpreter on a per binary basis.
A handler is an instance of a binfmt_misc_ops struct_ops with a
->match() and a ->load() program. match() decides from the entry
lookup walk whether the handler applies under the same
registration-order. It can read file content as needed not only the
prefetched 256 bytes in bprm->buf.
load() then selects the interpreter and stages it through the new
bpf_binprm_set_interp(), bpf_binprm_set_interp_arg() and
bpf_binprm_set_flags() kfuncs.
Handlers are published in a registry keyed by the registering
task's user namespace and activated through the existing text
interface with a new 'B' type carrying the handler name:
echo ':origin:B::::nix:' > /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc/register
The permission and namespacing model is unchanged. Activating a
handler requires the same write access to an instance as any other
registration. A container mounting its own instance escapes the
host's entries exactly as before. The computed interpreter is
opened with open_exec() under the caller's credentials and goes
through full LSM vetting as the next binprm level. A program can
only ever redirect the caller to something the caller could exec
anyway.
- Two dispatch modes are added. So far the chosen interpreter owns
the whole process identity (argv[0], /proc/pid/cmdline,
/proc/self/exe all name interpreter information). So relocatable
find the dynamic linker instead. Also a binary passed to execveat()
as an inaccessible O_CLOEXEC fd cannot run at all and gdb trips
because AT_ENTRY and AT_PHDR do not match the exe file. So PIE
symbols are unrelocated.
This adds transparent dispatch which allows the interpreter to load
the binary through AT_EXECFD and leaves the argument vector exactly
as the caller built it and labels mm->exe_file and comm with the
binary. It also raises the AT_FLAGS_TRANSPARENT_INTERP aux vector
bit. The interpreter keeps control of mapping the binary.
The second mode is loader substitution. This allows a binary to be
executed natively and only the interpreter to be changed.
- Last, interpreters can be bound at registration time. Each
interpreter is opened by its own write with the credentials the
entry file was opened with. The program picks one per exec with
bpf_binprm_select_interp().
Ucounts are used to properly account for pre-opened interpreters
via /proc/sys/user/max_binfmt_misc_interpreters"

fuse: add zero-copy over io-uring
Implement zero-copy in fuse io-uring to eliminate memory copies between
the application, kernel, and server for read/write operations. The
server can directly access client pages or page cache folios without
copying data through an intermediary buffer. When a fuse request arrives,
the kernel registers the relevant pages into a sparse slot in the
server's io_uring registered buffer table. The server can then operate
on these pages directly using io-uring fixed buffer operations (eg
read_fixed/write_fixed) and the kernel unregisters these pages when the
request completes. Non-page-backed args (eg op out headers) will go
through the payload buffer as normal. The server can specify which open
files should have their reads/writes go through zero-copy, by setting
the FOPEN_IO_URING_ZERO_COPY flag when servicing opens.
This requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN and bufpools. This is gated behind
CAP_SYS_ADMIN because zero-copy allows the server direct access to the
client's underlying pages, rather than operating on an intermediary
buffer that the contents of the client's pages were copied into or on
page cache folios.
The request flow for the zero-copy direct-io write path (client writes
data, server reads it) is as follows:
=======================================================================
| Kernel | FUSE server

"write(fd, buf, 1MB)"

>fuse_zero_copy_release()
[folio_put for each folio]
[ent->zero_copied = false]
>fuse_request_end()
[wake up client]
The zero-copy read path is analogous.
Some requests may have both page-backed args and non-page-backed args.
For these requests, the page-backed args are zero-copied while the
non-page-backed args are copied to the buffer selected from the buffer
pool:
zero-copy: pages registered via io_buffer_register_bvec()
non-page-backed: copied to payload buffer via fuse_copy_args()
For a request whose payload is zero-copied, the
registration/unregistration path looks like:
register: fuse_uring_set_up_zero_copy()
folio_get() for each folio
io_buffer_register_bvec(ent->zero_copy_index)
unregister: fuse_uring_req_end()
io_buffer_unregister(ent->zero_copy_index)
-> fuse_zero_copy_release() callback
folio_put() for each folio
Please note that on abort for in-flight zero-copied requests that have
been sent to userspace, the registered bvec slot remains occupied and
its folios remain pinned until the io-uring ring is destroyed, at which
point io-uring unregisters all buffers and the fuse_zero_copy_release()
callback drops the folio references. Unregistering at teardown would
require operating on the ring context directly, whose validity is hard
to ascertain; this is deemed not worth the complexity for the abort
race, since everything is freed when the ring is torn down.
The throughput improvement from zero-copy depends on how much of the
per-request latency is spent on data copying vs backing I/O. The gain
comes from eliminating the payload-buffer memcpy, but accessing the
zero-copied pages requires the server to issue the read/write as an
IORING_OP_READ/WRITE_FIXED operation. The benefit is largest when the
mempcy is a meaningful fraction of per-request latency while backing i/o
is still noticable enough that the extra io-uring op's overhead doesn't
dominate.
Benchmarked with passthrough_hp (--nopassthrough, q_depth=8) on a
2-socket Intel Xeon Gold 6138 (40 cores / 80 threads), using fio (sync
engine, bs=1M, O_DIRECT, numjobs=2, 30s run + 10s ramp, 3 runs) where
direct-I/O throughput is against a RAM-backed (tmpfs) source (backing
I/O is not the bottleneck):
baseline registered-buf zero-copy (zc vs base)
direct read ~5.1 GB/s ~5.4 GB/s ~8.9 GB/s (+75%)
direct write ~3.4 GB/s ~4.8 GB/s ~5.1 GB/s (+50%)
Reads end up higher than writes because the backing store reads faster
than it writes (the baseline shows the same read>write gap, and the raw
device does too). On a device-bound NVMe (~2 GB/s reads) the read gain
shrinks to ~10-16% (and no measurable gains for writes), as backing I/O
rather than the eliminated copy dominates latency.
The benefit overall scales with how much of the
per-request latency is the data copy versus backing I/O.

fuse: add io-uring buffer pools
Right now, ents and buffers are tightly coupled in fuse io-uring where
each entry has its own dedicated payload buffer, requiring N buffers for
N entries where each buffer must be large enough to accomodate the
maximum payload size. This is suboptimal as most request types (lookup,
open, release, getattr, etc) require vastly less bytes than the maximum
payload size and some requests (unlink, rmdir, fsync, flush, etc) do not
require payload buffers at all.
Instead of requiring a 1:1 coupling between ents and payload buffers,
allow the server to pass in a buffer pool (a contiguous chunk of memory)
that the kernel will use as it wishes for servicing ents/requests.
Entries only reserve a "buffer" from the pool while actively processing
a request that requires a payload buffer. This decoupling and letting
the kernel delegate memory from the pool for requests allows the kernel to
optimize memory usage and reduces the memory usage requirements needed
to use fuse-over-io-uring.
A pool is registered per queue with the new
FUSE_IO_URING_CMD_ADD_BUFPOOL command. The server passes the pool's base
address and length in fuse_uring_cmd_req.bufpool.{uaddr,len}.
Internally, the kernel splits the region into buffers of
ring->max_payload_sz bytes each (nr_bufs = pool len / max_payload_sz). A
queue commits to a payload mode on first use: registering an entry that
carries its own payload selects the legacy per-entry mode, while
ADD_BUFPOOL selects pool mode. The two are mutually exclusive, so
ADD_BUFPOOL must be issued before any payload-carrying entries are
registered on that queue. The queue must have been created before the
bufpool is added, through the FUSE_IO_URING_CMD_ADD_QUEUE command.
The kernel tracks free buffers with a bitmap (a set bit marks a free
buffer). On dispatch, a request that needs a payload claims a free
buffer (find_first_bit + clear). A request that needs none claims
nothing. The buffer's byte offset within the pool is reported to the
server in the new fuse_uring_ent_in_out.offset field so that the server
can locate the payload. On completion the buffer is returned to the pool
or reused directly if the next request on that entry also has a payload.
The FUSE_HAS_IO_URING_BUFPOOL flag advertises kernel support to the
server for bufpools.

fuse: add FUSE_IO_URING_CMD_ADD_QUEUE
fuse-over-io-uring queues are currently created lazily, as a side effect of the first FUSE_IO_URING_CMD_REGISTER command for a given qid. This ties queue creation to entry registration. Add a FUSE_IO_URING_CMD_ADD_QUEUE command so a server can create a queue explicitly, decoupling queue setup from entry registration. This is additionally a prerequisite for FUSE_IO_URING_CMD_ADD_BUFPOOL, which attaches a buffer pool to an existing queue and therefore needs the queue to have been created first. landlock: Add LANDLOCK_RESTRICT_SELF_NO_NEW_PRIVS
Add a landlock_restrict_self(2) flag to set the no_new_privs attribute of the calling thread only after enforcement of the ruleset: no_new_privs is set if and only if the call succeeds. This removes the need for a prior prctl(2) PR_SET_NO_NEW_PRIVS call and guarantees that a failed enforcement leaves the attribute unchanged. Because no_new_privs is set by the call itself, the no_new_privs / CAP_SYS_ADMIN requirement of landlock_restrict_self(2) is fulfilled by construction, and the related EPERM check is skipped. Unlike LANDLOCK_RESTRICT_SELF_LOG_SUBDOMAINS_OFF, this flag always requires a valid ruleset: with a ruleset_fd of -1, such a call would be nothing more than a Landlock-flavored prctl(2) PR_SET_NO_NEW_PRIVS, and there is no valid use case for setting no_new_privs (possibly with LANDLOCK_RESTRICT_SELF_TSYNC) without also enforcing Landlock restrictions. Rejecting these calls also keeps the option of giving them a meaning later. The attribute is only set past the last point of failure, just before committing the new credentials. When combined with LANDLOCK_RESTRICT_SELF_TSYNC, no_new_privs is set on the sibling threads as well, in their commit phase, with the same ordering. Bump the Landlock ABI version to 11, and include the minimal related test changes to keep the tests bisectable. landlock: Require LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_MAKE_REG for whiteout creation
Whiteout objects are used in the upper layer of an OverlayFS to indicate that the file with this name does not exist in the unified view, even if it is present in one of the lower layer file systems. For the userspace implementations of OverlayFS (fuse-overlayfs), whiteout objects can be created from userspace as well: * mknod(2) with S_IFCHR and makedev(0, 0) * renameat2(2) with RENAME_WHITEOUT, creating the whiteout in the old place of the moved file. This commit guards whiteout creation in both of these cases with LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_MAKE_REG. Whiteout objects are *not* considered character devices and are not bound to a driver. LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_MAKE_REG describes the same permission class as a whiteout object: creating one is the only S_IFCHR creation that the VFS exempts from CAP_MKNOD, so it is as unprivileged as creating a regular file, while LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_MAKE_CHAR and LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_MAKE_BLOCK keep meaning the creation of devices that expose a kernel interface [1]. For the mknod(2) case, introduce a Landlock erratum. The creation of whiteout objects through mknod(2) was previously guarded using LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_MAKE_CHAR, and it is now guarded using LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_MAKE_REG. For the renameat2(2) case, fix a bug: Before this commit, renameat2(2) with RENAME_WHITEOUT would create a directory entry even when all LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_MAKE_* rights were denied. This does not affect normal renames within layered OverlayFS mounts: When doing a regular rename() on a mounted fuse-overlayfs, it is the fuse-overlayfs daemon that exercises renameat2() with RENAME_WHITEOUT, and only the Landlock domain of that daemon is checked there. This worked in principle, but OTOH, it's been quite a PITA, making the code much uglier than its gain, too, because one had to cast with __force everywhere. Also, Rust-binding would skip those defines because of __force usage, which will become more pains in near future. So let's drop __bitwise and __force prefix usages. In this patch, we start cleaning up the UAPI headers at first. The former bit-wised typedefs are still kept for compatibility for now. As it's only markers for sparse, the changes are absolutely safe, per se. Only that we'll need to watch out more carefully about the variable usage for PCM format type, etc. Reviewed-by: Cezary Rojewski <cezary.rojewski@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20260812060557.80445-2-tiwai@suse.de |

ipv6: add ip6_del_rt_reason()
Add RTA_DEL_REASON and enum rt_del_reason to the rtnetlink uAPI, and add ip6_del_rt_reason(), which takes the reason a route is being deleted. It has no skip_notify argument: a caller that records a deletion reason wants the notification that carries it. The reason is unused for now. Subsequent patches propagate it to the deletion path and report it on RTM_DELROUTE. cachefiles,netfs: sunset ondemand mode
It was an effort to enhance fscache as a kernel cache for lazy pulling (at least according to previous Incremental FS discussion [1]) and EROFS over fscache was the in-tree user of this mode. fscache has since evolved to be netfslib-oriented, serving network filesystem inodes via the netfs library, but EROFS never acts as a network filesystem and we need to cache golden filesystem images rather than individual EROFS inodes. Since EROFS over fscache is now removed, clean up netfs/fscache/ cachefiles upstream too. UBI: support per-device wear-leveling threshold
The UBI wear-leveling threshold (CONFIG_MTD_UBI_WL_THRESHOLD) is
currently a compile-time constant shared by all UBI devices. When a
single kernel image must support multiple NAND flashes with different
erase lifetimes, one global threshold cannot suit all devices.
Add a per-device configurable wl_threshold parameter:
- UAPI: add __s32 wl_threshold to struct ubi_attach_req, carved
from the existing padding.
- Module parameter: ubi.mtd gains a new optional token
"wl_threshold":
ubi.mtd=0,0,0,0,0,0,256 ubi.mtd=1,0,0,0,0,0,4096
0 means "use the kernel default", the accepted range is

f2fs: support dynamic reserve/release for device aliasing
This patch adds a dynamic management feature to the existing device aliasing functionality. It allows users to dynamically reserve or release specific devices from the filesystem's free pool at runtime through new ioctls. To support this, three new ioctls are introduced: - F2FS_IOC_RESERVE_DEV_ALIAS: This reclaims the space occupied by a device aliasing file. It first performs a capacity check, resets GC victim information for the target range, marks the segments as in-use to prevent new allocations, and then triggers GC to migrate existing valid data out of the range. Finally, it reserves these blocks in the SIT to effectively exclude the device from the usable capacity. - F2FS_IOC_RELEASE_DEV_ALIAS: This releases the reserved space of a previously reserved device aliasing file. It truncates the blocks associated with the file, which makes them available for general filesystem allocation again. - F2FS_IOC_GET_DEV_ALIAS_STATUS: This retrieves the current aliasing status of a device aliasing file, returning whether the file is released (inactive alias) or reserved (active alias, with blocks fully allocated on the device). ipvs: separate destination availability state
IPVS configuration paths update destination availability while connection
accounting updates destination overload state. The two independent states
share dest->flags, so their read-modify-write updates can race and lose one
another.
Keep OVERLOAD in flags, where the preceding patch serializes its updates
with dst_lock, and move AVAILABLE to cflags. This keeps configuration-
controlled availability out of the scheduler hot cacheline until a
scheduler needs to check it. It also prevents availability updates from
clobbering overload state.
The destination status bits are not exposed through the IPVS sockopt or
netlink interfaces, so keep their definitions in the internal IPVS header.
Readers can still observe stale destination state; this does not provide a
cross-field snapshot.

nfsd: export NFSv4 callback op stats via netlink
Add a proc4cb-ops nested attribute to the server-stats netlink dump, reusing the existing server-proc-entry (op/count) layout. The dump gains a callback section that emits one entry per callback opcode (OP_CB_GETATTR..OP_CB_OFFLOAD) from the per-netns callback counters, paged across messages like the other per-operation sections. This lets nfsstat report NFSv4 backchannel operation counts over netlink, including CB_GETATTR which corresponds to the procfs wdeleg_getattr line. nfsd: implement server-stats-get netlink handler
Implement nfsd_nl_server_stats_get_dumpit() which exposes the
NFS server statistics currently available via /proc/net/rpc/nfsd
through the nfsd generic netlink family.
The handler uses a dump operation to stream statistics across one
or more netlink messages. The reply is divided into sections that
are emitted in order:
- scalar stats (reply cache, filehandle, IO, network, RPC),
emitted once in the first message, then
- per-version procedure counts (proc2/3/4-ops) and the NFSv4
per-operation counts (proc4ops-ops), using the per-netns
vs_count arrays.
cb->args[0] tracks the current section and cb->args[1] the entry
index within it, so a section that does not fit in the current
message is closed and resumed in the next one. This matters because
the first dump message is allocated at NLMSG_GOODSIZE (a single page
on most architectures) regardless of the client's receive buffer;
packing every counter into one message would overflow it and fail
the dump with -EMSGSIZE. Userspace merges the attributes from every
message.
This allows nfsstat to retrieve server statistics via netlink
with a procfs fallback for older kernels.

nfsd: add protocol support for CB_NOTIFY
Add the necessary bits to nfs4_1.x and remove the duplicate definitions from nfs4.h and the uapi nfs4 header. Regenerate the xdr files. Note that regenerating these files caused conflicts with the definitions of NFS4_VERIFIER_SIZE and NFS4_FHSIZE in include/uapi/linux/nfs4.h. These constants are defined by the RFC, and are not part of the kernel API. They have been removed. Userspace consumers who require those constants should plan to get them from more authoritative sources. The nfsstat4 enum defined in the .x is fed to the xdrgen-generated wire encoder and decoder, which treat every enumerated value as legal on the wire. Do not carry the NFS4ERR_FIRST_FREE sentinel (which is not a protocol error code) into the .x; keeping it would make 10097 a value that could leak onto the wire. Instead base nfsd's internal error codes (NFSERR_EOF and friends) at an impossible nfsstat4 value, as lockd does for its nlm__int__* status codes. KVM: PPC: Introduce KVM_CAP_PPC_COMPAT_CAPS and wire up ioctl
Introduce a new capability and ioctl to expose CPU compatibility modes supported by the host processor for nested guests. On IBM POWER systems, newer processor generations (N) can operate in compatibility modes corresponding to earlier generations, like (N-1) and (N-2). This is particularly relevant for nested virtualization, where nested KVM guests may need to run with a specific processor compatibility level. Introduce KVM_CAP_PPC_COMPAT_CAPS capability and the corresponding KVM_PPC_GET_COMPAT_CAPS vm ioctl. The ioctl returns a bitmap describing the compatibility modes supported by the host in respective bit numbers, allowing userspace (e.g., QEMU) to select an appropriate compatibility level when configuring nested KVM guests. The ioctl handling is added in kvm_arch_vm_ioctl() and retrieves host CPU compatibility capabilities via a PowerPC-specific backend implementation when available. The struct kvm_ppc_compat_caps places the 'size' field first so it can be read alone via get_user() before copy_struct_from_user() is called, avoiding pointer arithmetic to locate the size field. The ioctl is defined using _IO so the ioctl number remains stable even if the struct grows in future versions. It uses copy_struct_from_user() and copy_struct_to_user() to provide forward- and backward-compatible extensibility: older userspace passing a smaller struct to a newer kernel gets zero-padded trailing fields. Newer userspace passing a larger struct to an older kernel (usize > ksize) succeeds if trailing bytes are zero (the kernel reports back min(usize, ksize) as the filled size); if trailing bytes are non-zero, the kernel writes back ksize into host_caps.size and returns -E2BIG so userspace can retry with the correct size. KVM_PPC_COMPAT_CAPS_SIZE_VER0 is defined as a frozen integer constant (24) marking the size of the initial struct version, used as the minimum floor for size field validation, similar to other versioned struct interfaces in the kernel. The 'flags' field is reserved for future use. The kernel rejects any call where flags is non-zero with -EINVAL, preventing garbage values from being baked into ABI permanently. The ioctl returns appropriate error codes: E2BIG if usize exceeds PAGE_SIZE, or if new userspace provides a larger struct with non-zero trailing bytes (with ksize written back into host_caps.size for the retry); EINVAL for an invalid size or non-zero reserved fields; EFAULT for failed copy operations; and ENOTTY if the backend doesn't implement get_compat_caps. Every devmem dmabuf binding today hands the page_pool PAGE_SIZE niovs.

tun/tap: add IFF_BACKPRESSURE flag
Add the IFF_BACKPRESSURE flag to the UAPI header and to its tools/ copy. The flag has no effect yet, it is the opt-in switch for the qdisc backpressure logic added by the following patches. It is added to TUN_FEATURES only in the last patch of the series, once the implementation is complete. Until then TUNSETIFF silently masks it off, as it does for any flag outside TUN_FEATURES. Keeping the flag and its users in separate patches would either leave a window where backpressure is unconditional, or make the opt-in a later add-on. Adding the flag first lets every following patch be a no-op unless it is set. fwctl/bnxt: Add DMA buffer support for HWRM commands
Several HWRM commands carry __le64 DMA address fields in their input structures; firmware reads from or writes to the memory those addresses point to. Have a static per-command descriptor table in the driver that records the details of the DMA fields in each supported HWRM input struct. When a DMA-bearing HWRM command arrives, the driver reads the userspace pointer out of each declared address field and clears the field, allocates a DMA-coherent kernel buffer sized from the command's own length information, copies data to/from the userspace pointer, and patches the field with the real DMA bus address before the command is sent to firmware. Responses are copied back to the original userspace pointer afterward. Scope-gated allow-list and timeout value list are updated with the new the commands. openvswitch: remove support for legacy tunnel types
ovs-vswitchd doesn't use OVS_VPORT_TYPE_GRE/VXLAN/GENEVE with the Linux kernel module since adding support for standard tunnel devices with COLLECT_METADATA back in 2017. The code to use them was only activated as a fallback for old kernels, so not used in practice. And it is now fully removed in the upcoming OVS 4.0 release. Modern way to use tunnels with OVS is to create standard tunnel ports with RTM_NEWLINK + COLLECT_METADATA and add them as OVS_VPORT_TYPE_NETDEV. Device reference management and the netlink options parsing for these legacy port types is complicated and was a CVE magnet in the previous release cycles. Existence of these modules also makes locking analysis for geneve module and other core tunnel devices unnecessarily more complicated, especially in light of migration to per-netns locking. Since there are no actual users for these port types for a very long time, let's just remove the support entirely. There is no practical reason to run OVS from 2017 on a recent kernel. While it's technically a uAPI change in some sense, from the user's perspective this removal looks indistinguishable from the kernel built with CONFIG_OPENVSWITCH_GENEVE/VXLAN/GRE disabled. And it seems like removal of unused drivers/modules is not a rare event these days. A comment is added to the uAPI header noting that standard RTM_NEWLINK with COLLECT_METADATA followed by OVS_VPORT_CMD_NEW with the simple OVS_VPORT_TYPE_NETDEV should be used instead. Modules responsible for these tunnel ports are removed as well as selftests covering this functionality. Further cleanups will follow. ALSA: control: add ioctl to retrieve full card components
The fixed-size components field in SNDRV_CTL_IOCTL_CARD_INFO can be too small on systems with many audio devices. Keep the existing struct snd_ctl_card_info ABI intact and add a new ioctl SNDRV_CTL_IOCTL_CARD_BYTES that carries a variable-length payload selected by a type discriminator. The first defined type SND_CTL_CARD_BTYPE_COMPONENTS returns the full components string. The ioctl is designed to be reused for other variable-length card payloads in the future. The user-space caller may set data_allocated == 0 (or data == NULL) to query the required length; otherwise the kernel copies the payload into the user buffer and writes back the actual length in data_len. When the legacy components field in struct snd_ctl_card_info is truncated, '>' is written just before the NUL terminator to signal to user-space that the full string is available via the new ioctl. card->components is now dynamically allocated and grown in 32 byte increments via krealloc(), capped at 512 bytes. userfaultfd: add UFFDIO_SET_MODE for runtime sync/async toggle
Add an ioctl to toggle async mode at runtime without re-registering the userfaultfd. This allows a VMM to switch between sync and async RWP modes on-the-fly -- for example, starting in async mode for working set scanning, then switching to sync mode to intercept faults during page eviction. UFFDIO_SET_MODE takes an enable/disable bitmask of UFFD_FEATURE_* flags. Only UFFD_FEATURE_RWP_ASYNC is toggleable today; the ioctl rejects any other bit with -EINVAL. Enabling RWP_ASYNC also requires RWP to have been negotiated at UFFDIO_API time, mirroring the UFFDIO_API invariant. Fault-path readers of ctx->features run under mmap_read_lock or a per-VMA lock; the RMW takes mmap_write_lock and calls vma_start_write() on every UFFD-armed VMA, so those readers are fully excluded. userfaultfd_show_fdinfo(), however, reads ctx->features without any lock, so the RMW is written as a single WRITE_ONCE and fdinfo reads it with READ_ONCE. That keeps the lockless observer from seeing a mid-RMW intermediate and removes the audit burden when new toggleable bits are added later. When switching to async, pending sync waiters are woken so they retry and auto-resolve under the new mode. userfaultfd: add UFFD_FEATURE_RWP_ASYNC for async fault resolution
Sync RWP delivers a message and blocks the faulting thread until the handler resolves the fault. For working-set tracking the VMM does not need the message: it just needs to know, at scan time, which pages were touched. Async RWP serves that use case — the kernel restores access in-place and the faulting thread continues without blocking. The VMM reconstructs the access pattern after the fact via PAGEMAP_SCAN: pages whose uffd bit is still set (inverted PAGE_IS_ACCESSED) were not re-accessed since the last RWP cycle. Worth calling out: async resolution upgrades writable private anon PTEs via pte_mkwrite() when can_change_pte_writable() allows, mirroring do_numa_page(). Without it, every re-access of an RWP'd writable page would COW-fault a second time. UFFD_FEATURE_RWP_ASYNC requires UFFD_FEATURE_RWP. mm/pagemap: add PAGE_IS_ACCESSED for RWP tracking
PAGEMAP_SCAN already reports PAGE_IS_WRITTEN from the inverted uffd PTE bit, targeting the UFFDIO_WRITEPROTECT workflow. UFFDIO_RWPROTECT reuses the same PTE bit as a marker for read-write protection, but "has been written" and "has been accessed" are distinct semantic signals — they happen to share one PTE bit today only because the two implementations share infrastructure. Give RWP its own pagemap category so the UAPI does not conflate them: PAGE_IS_WRITTEN reported on VM_UFFD_WP VMAs, !pte_uffd(pte) PAGE_IS_ACCESSED reported on VM_UFFD_RWP VMAs, !pte_uffd(pte) Both still read the same PTE bit today, but each is scoped to the VMA whose registered mode makes the bit meaningful. If a future implementation moves RWP to a separate PTE bit, only PAGE_IS_ACCESSED switches over. This is a UAPI narrowing. Outside VM_UFFD_WP VMAs the uffd bit is always clear, so PAGEMAP_SCAN used to flag PAGE_IS_WRITTEN on every present PTE there — a meaningless duplicate of PAGE_IS_PRESENT. Now PAGE_IS_WRITTEN fires only inside VM_UFFD_WP VMAs. pagemap_hugetlb_category() now takes the vma like its PTE/PMD peers. mm/userfaultfd: add RWP fault delivery and expose UFFDIO_REGISTER_MODE_RWP
Wire the fault side of read-write protection tracking and turn the
userspace interface on.
An RWP-protected PTE is PAGE_NONE with the uffd bit set. The PROT_NONE
triggers a fault on any access; the uffd bit distinguishes it from plain
mprotect(PROT_NONE) or NUMA hinting.
Fault dispatch, per level:
PTE handle_pte_fault() -> do_uffd_rwp()
PMD __handle_mm_fault() -> do_huge_pmd_uffd_rwp()
hugetlb hugetlb_fault() -> hugetlb_handle_userfault()
The RWP branches gate on userfaultfd_pte_rwp() /
userfaultfd_huge_pmd_rwp() (VM_UFFD_RWP plus the uffd bit) and fall
through to do_numa_page() / do_huge_pmd_numa_page() otherwise. Each
delivers a UFFD_PAGEFAULT_FLAG_RWP message through handle_userfault(); the
handler resolves it with UFFDIO_RWPROTECT clearing MODE_RWP.
userfaultfd_must_wait() and userfaultfd_huge_must_wait() add matching
protnone+uffd waiters so sync-mode fault handlers block correctly.
Expose the UAPI:
UFFDIO_REGISTER_MODE_RWP -> UFFD_API_REGISTER_MODES
UFFD_FEATURE_RWP -> UFFD_API_FEATURES
_UFFDIO_RWPROTECT -> UFFD_API_RANGE_IOCTLS
UFFD_API_RANGE_IOCTLS_BASIC
UFFD_FEATURE_RWP is masked out at UFFDIO_API time when PROT_NONE is not
available or VM_UFFD_RWP aliases VM_NONE (32-bit), so userspace never sees
an advertised-but-broken feature.
Works on anonymous, shmem, and hugetlb memory.

userfaultfd: add UFFDIO_REGISTER_MODE_RWP and UFFDIO_RWPROTECT plumbing
Add the userspace interface for read-write protection tracking:
- UFFDIO_REGISTER_MODE_RWP register a range for RWP tracking
- UFFD_FEATURE_RWP capability bit
- UFFDIO_RWPROTECT install / remove RWP on a range
Introduce CONFIG_USERFAULTFD_RWP, auto-selected on 64-bit kernels with
ARCH_HAS_PTE_PROTNONE and HAVE_ARCH_USERFAULTFD_WP. The symbol gates
VM_UFFD_RWP (previously aliased to VM_NONE) and the smaps/trace-flag hooks
added in the preparatory patches; without it the UAPI bits added here have
nothing to drive and would be unreachable.
Registration sets VM_UFFD_RWP on the VMA. Combining MODE_WP with MODE_RWP
is rejected because both modes claim the uffd PTE bit.
UFFDIO_RWPROTECT is the bidirectional counterpart of
UFFDIO_WRITEPROTECT:
- MODE_RWP change_protection() with MM_CP_UFFD_RWP
installs PAGE_NONE and sets the uffd bit on
present PTEs
- !MODE_RWP change_protection() with MM_CP_UFFD_RWP_RESOLVE
restores vma->vm_page_prot and clears the bit
userfaultfd_clear_vma() runs the same resolve pass on unregister so RWP
state cannot outlive the uffd.
Re-registering a range must not drop a mode that installs per-PTE markers
(WP or RWP); doing so returns -EBUSY. This also closes a pre-existing
window where re-registering without MODE_WP would strand uffd-wp markers:
before, those caused extra write-faults but were otherwise benign; with
RWP preservation in place, a subsequent mprotect() on a VM_UFFD_RWP VMA
would silently promote the stale markers to RWP.
The feature is not yet advertised. UFFDIO_REGISTER_MODE_RWP,
UFFD_FEATURE_RWP, and _UFFDIO_RWPROTECT are intentionally absent from
UFFD_API_REGISTER_MODES, UFFD_API_FEATURES, and UFFD_API_RANGE_IOCTLS, so
UFFDIO_API masks them out and the register-mode validator rejects the bit.
The follow-up patch adds fault dispatch and exposes the UAPI.

iio: types: add IIO_VOLUMEFLOW channel type
Add a new IIO channel type for liquid volumetric flow sensors. The unit exposed via the standard _scale attribute is cubic metres per second (m^3/s), following the SI convention used by the other IIO channel types. Update iio-core's name table, the iio_event_monitor whitelist and the sysfs-bus-iio ABI document to match. The new _scale attribute is folded into the existing shared _scale block; only the per-type _raw needs a fresh entry. ASoC: qcom: qdsp6: add topology-driven Audio IF support
Add topology parsing and media-format programming for Audio IF source and sink modules. Add the Audio IF module IDs, the required topology tokens, and a dedicated topology loader that stores the parsed interface configuration in the AudioReach module state. Also add the Audio IF media-format path that sends the interface configuration, hardware endpoint media format, and frame-duration parameters for Audio IF modules. This keeps the serial-interface configuration topology-driven while still allowing the machine driver to provide runtime slot and media format settings. The same Audio IF path can then be reused for TDM, PCM, and I2S style backends. The new UAPI tokens (AR_TKN_U16_MODULE_SYNC_SRC=262 through AR_TKN_U8_MODULE_INV_EXT_BIT_CLK=276) are added, together with the value defines used by the sync source, sync mode, data delay, interface mode, bit clock type, and polarity tokens. MODULE_ID_AUDIO_IF_SINK (0x0700117C) and MODULE_ID_AUDIO_IF_SOURCE (0x0700117D) are introduced in this patch. This Module is validated on Hawi and Shikra platforms. ublk: add UBLK_F_IO_DESC_SIZE
ublk passes the parameters of incoming I/O in memory shared between the kernel ublk driver and userspace ublk server in struct ublksrv_io_desc. The size of this struct is currently fixed to 24 bytes, which has been an obstacle to extending it with additional fields [1]. Additionally, with multiple ublk server threads handling I/Os from the same ublk queue (possible with UBLK_F_PER_IO_DAEMON or UBLK_F_BATCH_IO), false sharing results from adjacent io_descs sharing the same cache line. Add a ublk feature UBLK_F_IO_DESC_SIZE to allow a ublk server to override the size of each io_desc. The size must be at least 24 and a multiple of 8 to store a properly-aligned struct ublksrv_io_desc. It's also limited to a maximum of 256, though this bound could be lifted in the future. The struct ublksrv_io_desc is located at the beginning of each io_desc and the remainder is padding. The mmap() performed for each queue must have a length of queue_depth * io_desc_size rounded up to the page size. The mmap() offset must be q_id * UBLK_MAX_QUEUE_DEPTH * io_desc_size, also rounded up to the page size. through AT_EXECFD and leaves the argument vector exactly as the caller

iommu/arm-smmu-v3: Support IDR5.DS and widen the TLBI SCALE field
An SMMU implementing SMMU_IDR5.DS extends the range invalidation commands: the SCALE field grows a 6th bit, raising its maximum value from 31 to 39, and TTL == 0b01 becomes a valid level hint for a 16KB translation granule. Add a new ARM_SMMU_FEAT_DS feature detecting the DS bit, and widen the CMDQ_TLBI_0_SCALE field to its architectural 6 bits. Mask the scale value explicitly in arm_smmu_cmdq_batch_add_range(), so the range invalidation path emits the same commands as before, keeping the pre-existing 5-bit truncation of a scale above 31. Also list DS as a valid IDR5 field in the iommu_hw_info_arm_smmuv3 kdoc: iommufd has always reported the raw IDR5 register, so a VMM may conclude from that bit alone that it can expose DS to its guest. misc: fastrpc: Add polling mode support for fastRPC driver
For any remote call to DSP, after sending an invocation message, the fastRPC driver waits for a glink response, during which the CPU can enter low power modes. This adds latency to the fastRPC call due to CPU wakeup and scheduling overhead. Add polling mode support where the fastRPC driver polls a shared memory location for completion after sending the invocation, avoiding CPU wakeup and scheduling latency and reducing fastRPC overhead. If the poll times out, the call falls back to the normal interrupt/glink-based completion path. Poll mode is only applied to dynamic modules running in a user PD (handle > FASTRPC_MAX_STATIC_HANDLE), since static/root-PD handles are not expected to benefit from, or require, this optimization. Support is advertised per SoC via fastrpc_soc_data, with a closed exception list for older platforms whose DSP firmware is known to support polling but which otherwise use the default soc_data. Poll mode can be enabled by userspace via the FASTRPC_IOCTL_SET_OPTION ioctl with the FASTRPC_POLL_MODE request id. Since context IDs (ctxid) are allocated from a fixed-size, per-channel cyclic IDR shared by all processes on a DSP, a context ID can be recycled for a new request soon after it is freed. In poll mode the context can be considered complete (and released) as soon as the poll memory is updated, while the corresponding glink COMPLETE response from the DSP may still be in flight. If that response arrives after the ctxid has been reused, it would otherwise match the new context and incorrectly signal completion for it while the DSP may still be operating on the new context's buffers. To prevent this, embed a monotonically increasing per-channel sequence number in the unused upper bits of the ctxid/message context and validate it in the rpmsg callback, dropping any response whose sequence number does not match the current owner of that ctxid slot. KVM: arm64: Add KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_STRICT vCPU feature
Introduce a new vCPU feature KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_STRICT. When set, KVM does not create a default PMU when initializing the vCPU, and userspace must select one explicitly via KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_SET_PMU before the first KVM_RUN. The flag forces the VMM to be aware of the PMU implementation of the guest to be created, so that certain information about the PMU becomes deterministic (if on a heterogeneous system) and becomes safe to be exposed to the guest. It can be used as an umbrella flag to gate future PMUv3 UAPI changes. When no default PMU is created, kvm->arch.arm_pmu stays NULL until SET_PMU runs, so kvm_arm_pmu_v3_init() now refuses to run if kvm->arch.arm_pmu is NULL. mm: hugetlb: move mpol interpretation out of alloc_buddy_hugetlb_folio_with_mpol()
Move memory policy interpretation out of alloc_buddy_hugetlb_folio_with_mpol() and into alloc_hugetlb_folio() to separate reading and interpretation of memory policy from actual allocation. This will later allow memory policy to be interpreted outside of the process of allocating a hugetlb folio entirely. This opens doors for other callers of the HugeTLB folio allocation function, such as guest_memfd, where memory may not always be mapped and hence may not have an associated vma. Introduce struct mempolicy_interpreted to hold all the components of an interpreted memory policy. Rename alloc_buddy_hugetlb_folio_with_mpol() to alloc_buddy_hugetlb_folio() since the function no longer interprets memory policy. No functional change intended. scsi: smartpqi: Add support for CCISS_BIG_PASSTHRU ioctl
Add pqi_big_passthru_ioctl() to handle CCISS_BIG_PASSTHRU ioctl requests. The existing passthru ioctl uses a 16-bit integer for the I/O buffer size, limiting transfers to 64KB. The big passthru ioctl uses BIG_IOCTL_Command_struct which stores the buffer size as a 32-bit integer, allowing larger transfers required by some management utilities. Add CCISS_BIG_PASSTHRU_SUPPORTED to uapi/linux/cciss_ioctl.h and return 0 from pqi_ioctl() to advertise driver support. Userspace tools can send this ioctl to probe whether the driver supports CCISS_BIG_PASSTHRU before issuing it. drm/fourcc: Add modifiers for AMD GFX6-8
GFX6-8 are the oldest GPUs supported by the amdgpu kernel driver, and the last ones that didn't support DRM format modifiers until now. These are the Southern Islands, Sea Islands and Volcanic Islands families of GPUs. On GFX6-8, the GFX block can only use pre-determined tiling modes which are programmed by the kernel according to the tiling mode table. GFX6 uses the GB_TILE_MODE0...31 registers, and GFX7-8 also has GB_MACROTILE_MODE0...15 registers. DCC is also supported on GFX8, albeit not displayable. Note that the tiling table is uAPI and userspace relies on specific modes being present at specific indices. How the tiling works is primarily determined by the so-called array mode. Use the TILE field to specify the array mode. Pixel data is organized into micro tiles. Each micro tile may be 8x8 / 8x8x4 / 8x8x8 pixels, depending on the array mode. Add the MICROTILE field to specify microtile mode. Microtiles may be further organized into macro tiles, which have many configurable parameters. Macro tile mode selection depends on how many bits per pixel an image has. Add the PIPE_CONFIG, TILE_SPLIT, BANK_WIDTH, BANK_HEIGHT, MACRO_TILE_ASPECT, NUM_BANKS fields to specify parameters of macro tiled modes. Furthermore, tiling is also influenced by memory configuration. Old RFC patches received feedback concerning that, so I looked into it specifically: GB_ADDR_CONFIG.ROW_SIZE needs to be considered when calculating TILE_SPLIT, but does not need to be included in the modifiers, and also PIPE_INTERLEAVE matters, but it's hardcoded to the same value on all GFX6-8 GPUs and changing it would break userspace, so let's assume it isn't going to change. Therefore we don't need to include that in modifiers. Mesa also reads NUM_RANKS but actually doesn't use its value on GFX6-8. As a side note, tiling works similarly on GFX4-5 (that is Evergreen and Northern Islands). But that will need some additional PIPE_CONFIG enum values as well as some extra fields not relevant to GFX6-8. Initially, let's only expose the tiling modes that are most relevant to sharing buffers between different processes: Exposed array modes (TILE field): - 1D_TILED_THIN1: micro tiled only - 2D_TILED_THIN1: macro tiled Exposed micro tile modes (MICROTILE field): - DISPLAY: supported by DCE (the display engine) - THIN: more efficient but not displayable Exposed macro tile modes: All possible parameters (25088 permutations). More modes may be exposed in the future as needed. Technically, the amount of possible combinations of all possible tiling parameters is in the range of hundreds of thousands, but in practice, there are just a handful of possible modifiers for a surface. For example on GFX8, a surface would have these modifiers, from best to worst performance: - 2D_TILED_THIN1 + THIN + DCC + macrotile params [1] - 2D_TILED_THIN1 + THIN + macrotile params [1] - 2D_TILED_THIN1 + DISPLAY + macrotile params [1] - 1D_TILED_THIN1 + THIN - 1D_TILED_THIN1 + DISPLAY - LINEAR [1] The macro tiling parameters depend on how many bits per pixel of the specific surface has and how the chip is configured. There is only one set of valid macrotile params for a given surface. DCC is only supported by GFX8 and newer, and only with non-displayable macrotiling modes. When sharing buffers between different GFX6-8 GPUs, it is very unlikely that they support the exact same macrotiling configuration, so they will likely need to use micro tiled modes, which are still much better than using linear buffers. (Note that currently Mesa always uses LINEAR when copying between two GPUs.) RDMA/bnxt_re: Add uverbs object handle path for CQ/SRQ toggle page
The current GET_TOGGLE_MEM ioctl requires the caller to supply a type enum and a raw hardware queue ID (RES_ID). The kernel looks up the CQ or SRQ by that ID without verifying that the caller owns the resource. Add a new, preferred code path that accepts standard uverbs object handles (BNXT_RE_TOGGLE_MEM_CQ_HANDLE / BNXT_RE_TOGGLE_MEM_SRQ_HANDLE) instead. The uverbs core validates that the handle belongs to the calling context as part of resolving it, so this path no longer needs the driver's own XArray lookup for ownership checking. As with the legacy path, the toggle_entry's own mmap-entry refcount (not a CQ/SRQ uobject reference) is what pins the toggle page for the life of the GET_TOGGLE_MEM handle. Only newer rdma-core versions support this path, if the driver reports the supported resp mask (BNXT_RE_UCNTX_CMASK_TOGGLE_MEM_UOBJ_SUPPORT). The existing TYPE + RES_ID path is retained for backward compatibility with older rdma-core. iommu/arm-smmu-v3-iommufd: Report CFGI/TLBI-repeat erratum
A guest with access to VCMDQ generates its own invalidation commands and must apply any invalidation errata before submitting them. Add IOMMU_HW_INFO_ARM_SMMUV3_ERRATA_REPEAT_TLBI_CFGI to report the CFGI/TLBI-repeat erratum to user space. This allows the VMM to expose the erratum to the guest or apply the workaround itself. Use the raw __arm_smmu_cmdq_issue_cmdlist() helper for user-provided invalidations so the host does not apply the workaround a second time. fs: support FD_FAILFS_ROOT in fchdir()
Add a new file descriptor sentinel FD_FAILFS_ROOT following FD_PIDFS_ROOT and FD_NSFS_ROOT and teach fchdir() to accept it. A process calling fchdir(FD_FAILFS_ROOT) moves its working directory into failfs. Every AT_FDCWD-relative lookup afterwards fails with EOPNOTSUPP including "." and ".." and getcwd() reports the working directory as unreachable from the process root by returning a path prefixed with "(unreachable)". Lookups relative to explicit directory file descriptors are unaffected. The sentinel is the only way in. No privilege or gating is required. Setting the working directory to a directory in which every operation fails grants nothing and loses nothing that closing file descriptors couldn't lose. An unlinked working directory behaves the same way today modulo errno. The working directory also plays no role in confining ".." resolution so no boundary is weakened. fs: add failfs
nullfs provides a permanently empty and immutable directory. Lookups
fail with ENOENT. The directory can be opened, read, stat, mounted upon.
It behaves like nothing is there.
Add its counterpart failfs where the semantics are not "there is
nothing here" but "nothing is supported here". Every operation that
reaches the filesystem fails with EOPNOTSUPP. Even statfs()/fstatfs()
fail so the filesystem cannot be discovered through an fd to it.
EOPNOTSUPP rather than a permission errno keeps that coherent. There
is no permission model in which anything could ever be allowed and
EACCES or EPERM would merely suggest that different credentials might
succeed while EIO would suggest corruption. It also makes hitting the
failfs boundary mostly quite dinstinguishable. A task anchoring its
lookups at real directory file descriptors may be able to tell a failfs
refusal from an ordinary permission failure. I wouldn't go so far as
guaranteeing that but it should mostly work.
No path lookup can open the root, not even with O_PATH. It is never
reached by a lookup in a parent directory. The only way to a path-walk
terminal at the root is a jump through a /proc/<pid>/{root,cwd} magic
link or by mountpoint traversal. The root also refuses
->d_weak_revalidate() which the VFS calls for jumped terminals. That
covers the jump-based references too: an O_PATH open is refused,
name_to_handle_at() cannot encode it into a file handle, and following a
magic link into it fails. A plain readlink() of such a link still works
and shows "failfs:/".
There is a single instance of failfs mounted during early boot via
kern_mount() making it logically distinct from every mount namespace.
Since the mount is a member of no mount namespace mounting onto it
fails. So nothing can ever be mounted on top of it. It cannot be cloned
via OPEN_TREE_CLONE and it does not show up in statmount()/listmount()
or /proc/<pid>/mountinfo. The filesystem is not registered so it is
not visible in /proc/filesystems and cannot be mounted from userspace.
This lets tasks shed their filesystem state completely. A process with
its root directory or working directory in failfs must anchor every path
lookup at an explicit file descriptor or is doomed to fail any lookup.
Absolute paths, absolute symlinks, and AT_FDCWD-relative lookups
simply fail. Followup patches will expose it via a new FD_FAILFS_ROOT
file descriptor sentinel understood by fchdir() and the new fchroot()
system call.
