Store tiling function pointer in struct intel_panic instead of struct
intel_framebuffer, and store struct intel_panic pointer instead of
struct intel_framebuffer pointer in struct drm_scanout_buffer private
member.
To make this happen, pass the tiling function pointer to panic setup
hook, and initialize sb->private in the hook for clarity.
This allows us to drop the dependency on struct intel_framebuffer from
i915 and xe panic code.
Note: It would be less verbose to have a typedef for the tiling function
pointer. However, there isn't a nice location for it that wouldn't also
increase header interdependencies.

Commit 47b5ac7daa ("drm/atomic: Add new atomic_create_state callback
to drm_private_obj") introduced a new pattern for allocating drm object
states: atomic_create_state, a dedicated hook that allocates and
initializes a pristine state without any side effect.
The bridge atomic_reset callback is already fallible and in practice
only allocates and initializes state without touching hardware.
However, the reset name does not make this contract clear: callers
and implementers cannot tell from the name alone whether the hardware
will be affected or when the hook is safe to call.
Add an atomic_create_state callback to drm_bridge_funcs to make the
contract explicit: allocate a pristine state, initialize it, no side
effects. The core calls it when available, falling back to
atomic_reset otherwise.

__drm_atomic_helper_bridge_reset() is used to initialize a
newly allocated drm_bridge_state, and is being typically called by the
drm_bridge_funcs.atomic_reset implementation.
Since we want to consolidate DRM objects state allocation around the
atomic_create_state callback that will only allocate and initialize a
new drm_bridge_state instance, we will need to call
__drm_atomic_helper_bridge_reset() from both the atomic_reset and
atomic_create_state hooks.
To avoid any confusion, we can thus rename
__drm_atomic_helper_bridge_reset() to
__drm_atomic_helper_bridge_state_init().

The drm_bridge_funcs atomic_get_output_bus_fmts operation should be the
same for likely every HDMI connector bridge, unless such an HDMI
connector bridge has some special hardware restrictions that I cannot
envision yet.
To avoid code duplication and standardize on a set of media bus formats
that the HDMI output color formats translate to, add a common helper
function that implements this operation to the drm bridge helpers.
The function returns a list of output bus formats based on the HDMI
bridge's current output bits-per-component, and its bitmask of supported
color formats.
To guard against future expansion of DRM_OUTPUT_COLOR_FORMAT outgrowing
the hweight8 call, add a BUILD_BUG_ON statement where it's used that
checks for DRM_OUTPUT_COLOR_FORMAT_COUNT. The justification for not
using hweight32 in all cases is that not all ISAs have a popcount
instruction, and will benefit from a smaller/faster software
implementation that doesn't have to operate across all bits.
The justification for not defining an hweight_color depending on the
value of DRM_OUTPUT_COLOR_FORMAT_COUNT is that this count enum value is
only known at compile time, not at preprocessor time.

Add a new general DRM property named "color format" which can be used by
userspace to request the display driver to output a particular color
format.
Possible string values for the new enum property are:
- "AUTO" (setup by default, driver internally picks the color format)
- "RGB"
- "YUV 4:4:4"
- "YUV 4:2:2"
- "YUV 4:2:0"
Drivers should advertise from this list the formats they support in an
optimistic best-case scenario. EDID data from the sink can then be used
in the kernel's atomic check phase to restrict this set of formats, as
well as by userspace to make a correct choice in the first place.

Currently almost all bridge drivers which implement hpd_enable /
hpd_disable callbacks simply toggle the hardware registers generating
the interrupt. However, as pointed out by Jonas Karlman and Sashiko bot,
using those callbacks for enable_irq() / disable_irq() calls or
scheduling and cancelling the work can cause a AB-BA deadlock (between
hpd_mutex lock and the corresponding lock).
Split the hpd_mutex into two locks: one simply making sure that hpd_cb /
hpd_data are consistent and another one, hpd_state_mutex, making sure
that concurrent drm_bridge_hpd_enable() / drm_bridge_hpd_disable() calls
can't end up with inconsistency between hpd_cb/_data and bridge's
internal state.

One of the complications of trying to use the shmem helpers to create a
scatterlist for shmem objects is that we need to be able to provide a
guarantee that the driver cannot be unbound for the lifetime of the
scatterlist.
The easiest way of handling this seems to be just hooking up an unmap
operation to devres the first time we create a scatterlist, which allows us
to still take advantage of gem shmem facilities without breaking that
guarantee. To allow for this, we extract __drm_gem_shmem_free_sgt_locked()
- which allows a caller (e.g. the rust bindings) to manually unmap the sgt
for a gem object as needed.

The DRIVER_GEM_GPUVA feature flag is currently only used to control two
behaviors within the DRM core:
- calling drm_gem_gpuva_init() during
GEM object initialization
- creating the "gpuvas" debugfs entry
drm_gem_gpuva_init() is a plain INIT_LIST_HEAD() and therefore is cheap
to run for every GEM object. The DRM_DEBUGFS_GPUVA_INFO macro is only
referenced by GPU-VA capable drivers, so clearing the feature bit does
not cause any unrelated drivers to get the "gpuvas" debugfs node. The
flag doesn't have any relevant purpose (e.g. gating ioctl handlers or MM
logic) and doesn't provide any practical benefit.
Remove the flag definition and drop it from all drivers that use it,
call drm_gem_gpuva_init() unconditionally and clear the driver features
bit in DRM_DEBUGFS_GPUVA_INFO.

drm_mode_config_reset() can be used to create the initial state, but
also to return to the initial state, when doing a suspend/resume cycle
for example.
It also affects both the software and the hardware, and drivers can
choose to reset the hardware as well. Most will just create an empty
state and the synchronisation between hardware and software states will
effectively be done when the first commit is done.
That dual role can be harmful, since some objects do need to be
initialized but also need to be preserved across a suspend/resume cycle.
drm_private_obj are such objects for example.
Thus, create another helper for drivers to call to initialize their
state when the driver is loaded, so we can make
drm_mode_config_reset() only about handling suspend/resume and similar.

Commit 47b5ac7daa ("drm/atomic: Add new atomic_create_state callback
to drm_private_obj") introduced a new pattern for allocating drm object
states.
Instead of relying on the reset() callback, it created a new
atomic_create_state hook. This is helpful because reset is a bit
overloaded: it's used to create the initial software state, reset it,
but also reset the hardware.
It can also be used either at probe time, to create the initial state

Both these cases come with different expectations too: during the
initialization, we want to initialize all states, but during

reset() also isn't fallible, which makes it harder to handle
initialization errors properly. This is only really relevant for some
drivers though, since all the helpers for reset only create a new
state, and don't touch the hardware at all.
It was thus decided to create a new hook that would allocate and
initialize a pristine state without any side effect:
atomic_create_state to untangle a bit some of it, and to separate the
initialization with the actual reset one might need during a

drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge() is widely used, but many callers pass NULL
into the @panel or the @bridge arguments, thus making a very partial usage
of this rather complex function.
Besides, the bridge returned in @bridge is not refcounted, thus making this
API unsafe when DRM bridge hotplug will be introduced.
Solve both issues for the cases of calls to drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge()
with a NULL @panel pointer by adding a new function that only looks for
bridges (and is thus much simpler) and increments the refcount of the
returned bridge.
The new function is identical to drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge() except it:
- handles bridge refcounting: uses of_drm_find_and_get_bridge() instead of
of_drm_find_bridge() internally to return a refcounted bridge
- is simpler to use: just takes no @panel parameter, returns the pointer
in the return value instead of a double pointer argument
- has a simpler implementation: it is equal to
drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge() after removing the code that becomes dead
when @panel == NULL
Also add this function to drm_bridge.c and not drm_of.c because it returns
bridges only.

Recently, a few races have been discovered in the GEM LRU logic, all
of them caused by the fact the LRU lock is accessed through
gem->lru->lock, and that very same lock also protects changes to
gem->lru, leading to situations where gem->lru needs to first be
accessed without the lock held, to then get the lru to access the lock
through and finally take the lock and do the expected operation.
Currently, the only driver making use of this API (MSM) declares a
device-wide lock, and the user we're about to add (panthor) will
do the same. There's no evidence that we will ever have a driver
that wants different pools of LRUs protected by different locks under
the same drm_device. So we're better off moving this lock to drm_device
and always locking it through obj->dev->gem_lru_mutex, or directly
through dev->gem_lru_mutex.
If anyone ever needs more fine-grained locking, this can be revisited
to pass some drm_gem_lru_pool object representing the pool of LRUs
under a specific lock, but for now, the per-device lock seems to be
enough.

When ttm_tt_swapout() fails, the current code calls
ttm_resource_add_bulk_move() followed by ttm_resource_move_to_lru_tail()
to restore the resource's bulk_move membership.
However, ttm_resource_move_to_lru_tail() places the resource at the tail
of the LRU list which, relative to the walk cursor's hitch node (placed
immediately after the resource when it was yielded), puts the resource
*in front of the* the hitch. The next list_for_each_entry_continue() from
the hitch finds the same resource again, causing an infinite loop.
Fix by deferring del_bulk_move to the success path only.
On the success path, TTM_TT_FLAG_SWAPPED has just been set by
ttm_tt_swapout() but the resource is still tracked in the bulk_move range,
so ttm_resource_del_bulk_move()'s !ttm_resource_unevictable() guard would
incorrectly skip the removal. Introduce
ttm_resource_del_bulk_move_unevictable() which bypasses that guard.

The kernel-doc block above struct drm_gpusvm_pages duplicates the
descriptions of the bit-flags that live in struct drm_gpusvm_pages_flags
using dotted notation (@flags.migrate_devmem, @flags.unmapped, ...).
That dotted notation is intended for nested anonymous structs/unions that
the parser flattens into the parent's parameter list. Here, however,
flags is of a named external type, so the parser does not flatten its
members and the dotted entries do not match any member of
drm_gpusvm_pages. They also duplicate the canonical descriptions already
present in the kernel-doc of struct drm_gpusvm_pages_flags itself.
Drop the five @flags.* lines and replace them with a single @flags entry
that cross-references the type via kernel-doc's "&struct ..." syntax.
This eliminates the redundancy and removes warnings emitted by the new
parameterdescs check in scripts/kernel-doc:
Excess struct member 'flags.migrate_devmem' description in
'drm_gpusvm_pages'
Excess struct member 'flags.unmapped' description in 'drm_gpusvm_pages'
Excess struct member 'flags.partial_unmap' description in
'drm_gpusvm_pages'
Excess struct member 'flags.has_devmem_pages' description in
'drm_gpusvm_pages'
Excess struct member 'flags.has_dma_mapping' description in

- Debugfs multi-LRC engine info (Xin Wang, 2 commits)
Expose multi-LRC engine classes in the debugfs engine info output
and improve the output readability.
- drm/drm_ras: Add clear-error-counter netlink command to drm_ras
Cross-subsystem Changes:
Core Changes:
- drm/gpusvm: Reject VMAs with VM_IO or VM_PFNMAP when creating SVM ranges
- drm/i915/display: switch to including common step file directly
Driver Changes:
- Engine initialization cleanup (Matt Roper, 10 commits)
Clean up engine initialization code inherited from i915 by moving
hardware programming (CCS enablement, HWSTAM, GFX_MODE, BLIT_CCTL,
STOP_RING) into the RTP infrastructure. This makes the programming
visible and verifiable via debugfs, and applies consistently across
both normal and execlist init paths. Also fixes the name/definition
of GFX_MODE, marks BCS engines as belonging to the GT forcewake
domain, and drops the now-unused xe_hw_engine_mmio_write32() helper.
- PF fair scheduling auto-provisioning (Michal Wajdeczko, 13 commits)
Fix several corner cases in SR-IOV PF scheduling policy provisioning,
then auto-provision PF and all VFs with 16ms execution-quantum and
preemption-timeout defaults. This prevents a VF from monopolizing
the GPU by submitting workloads without gaps, without requiring the
user to configure sysfs manually.
- System Controller support for CRI/Xe3p (Anoop Vijay + Raag Jadav, 10 commits)
Add xe_sysctrl infrastructure for communicating with the System
Controller firmware entity on CRI/Xe3p discrete GPU platforms via a
mailbox interface. Includes type definitions, register definitions,
mailbox communication, initialization, power management, interrupt
handling, and event dispatch. Builds on this to add initial RAS
correctable error handling, using sysctrl interrupts to receive
threshold-crossed events.
- PXP state machine fixes (Daniele Ceraolo Spurio, 4 commits)
Fix PXP state machine handling: reject PXP sessions on PTL platforms
with older GSC firmware that does not support it, fix the restart
flag not being cleared after jumping back in pxp_start, remove
incorrect handling of an impossible state during suspend, and clean
up termination status on failure.
- Reset/wedge/unload corner case fixes (Zhanjun Dong + Matthew Brost, 5 commits)
Fix memory leaks and fence signal failures that occurred during GPU
reset, device wedging, and driver unload by forcefully tearing down
remaining exec queues in GuC submit fini, always killing queues in
pause/abort, and triggering queue cleanup when not in wedged mode 2.
Also ensures GuC CT state transitions via STOP before DISABLED.
- Wedge path memory allocation fixes (Matthew Brost, 3 commits)
Avoid GFP_KERNEL allocations in xe_device_declare_wedged(), which
runs in the DMA-fence signaling path. Also drops the
guc_submit_wedged_fini devm registration from xe_guc_submit_wedge()
to clean up the wedge shutdown sequence.
- PAT type cleanup and invalid index hardening (Xin Wang, 3 commits)
Standardize pat_index fields to u16 across the driver, default
XE_CACHE_NONE_COMPRESSION to XE_PAT_INVALID_IDX (matching
WB_COMPRESSION), and introduce xe_cache_pat_idx() — a macro helper
that validates cache_mode bounds and asserts on invalid PAT indices
before returning the index.
- Reject unsafe PAT indices for CPU cached memory (Jia Yao, 2 commits)
Reject incoherent (coh_none) PAT indices for CPU cached memory in
both the madvise ioctl and vm_bind with CPU_ADDR_MIRROR flag, closing
a security gap where the GPU could bypass CPU caches and observe
stale or sensitive data.
- OA improvements for CRI device memory (Ashutosh Dixit, 3 commits)
Move OA buffer access to the xe_map layer to support both system and
device memory (required for CRI), switch OA buffer mmap to use
drm_gem_mmap_obj, and implement workaround Wa_14026633728.
- xe_drm.h documentation fixes (Shuicheng Lin, 6 commits)
Fix multiple documentation issues in the xe_drm.h UAPI header:
typos, spelling errors, grammar, wrong names and references,
kernel-doc cross-reference syntax, and broken code examples.
- kernel-doc syntax fixes in xe headers (Shuicheng Lin, 4 commits)
Fix kernel-doc syntax issues across xe header files: missing '@'
prefixes on member tags, stale/mismatched member tags, comment
syntax errors, and type/parameter name mismatches in references.
- Buffer object and DMA-buf resource leak fixes (Shuicheng Lin, 4 commits)
Fix resource leaks on error paths: DMA-buf attachment leak in
xe_gem_prime_import(), BO leak in xe_dma_buf_init_obj() on
allocation failure, and BO leaks in xe_bo_init_locked() on GGTT
flag validation and unaligned size validation failures.
- Include guard cleanup (Shuicheng Lin, 5 commits)
Fix and standardize include guards across xe header files: normalize
double-underscore guards to single, add missing leading/trailing
underscores, add missing _H suffixes, and add guards to previously
unprotected headers.
- VF CCS memory pool (Satyanarayana K V P, 2 commits)
Switch VF CCS read/write operations from the DRM sub-allocator to
DRM mm, fixing allocation failures in fence-disabled mode where
the sub-allocator's hole cursor assumption breaks. Also introduces
a general BO-backed memory pool with shadow support using drm_mm.
- i915/xe step definition unification (Jani Nikula, 3 commits)
Complete the migration to the shared intel_step header: switch xe
from its own xe_step enum to the shared intel_step naming and
definitions, and update i915 display code to include the common
step header directly.
- Xe3p GT tuning fixes (3 commits)
Three Xe3p GT tuning corrections: fix the register offset for
GAMSTLB_CTRL, stop applying the CCCHKNREG1 tuning from Xe3p onward
(no longer needed), and mark ROW_CHICKEN5 as a masked register.
- Forcewake cleanup in GT and GuC PC (Raag Jadav, 3 commits)
Drop a redundant forcewake reference in xe_gt, reorder forcewake
usage in xe_guc_pc_fini_hw() to avoid a redundant hold, and convert
xe_guc_pc_stop() to void since it can no longer fail.
- SVM garbage collector fix on close (Matthew Brost, 2 commits)
Disable the SVM garbage collector work item when an SVM is closed
to prevent use-after-free when the GC fires after the SVM is freed.
- Admin-only PF mode (Satyanarayana K V P, 2 commits)
Derive an "admin-only PF" mode flag from xe_device state instead of
using a local flag, and restrict device query responses when running
in admin-only PF mode to avoid exposing internal state.
- Enable hwmon energy attributes and accepted power limit for CRI (2 commits)
Enable energy consumption hwmon attributes for the CRI platform and
add support for reading the accepted (sustained) power limit via
hwmon.

pause/abort, and triggering queue cleanup when not in wedged mode 2.
Also ensures GuC CT state transitions via STOP before DISABLED.
- Wedge path memory allocation fixes (Matthew Brost, 3 commits)
Avoid GFP_KERNEL allocations in xe_device_declare_wedged(), which
runs in the DMA-fence signaling path. Also drops the
guc_submit_wedged_fini devm registration from xe_guc_submit_wedge()
to clean up the wedge shutdown sequence.
- PAT type cleanup and invalid index hardening (Xin Wang, 3 commits)
Standardize pat_index fields to u16 across the driver, default
XE_CACHE_NONE_COMPRESSION to XE_PAT_INVALID_IDX (matching
WB_COMPRESSION), and introduce xe_cache_pat_idx() — a macro helper
that validates cache_mode bounds and asserts on invalid PAT indices
before returning the index.
Enable energy consumption hwmon attributes for the CRI platform and
add support for reading the accepted (sustained) power limit via
hwmon.

The KMS framework uses two slightly different definitions for the state
concept. For a given object (plane, CRTC, encoder, etc., so
drm_$OBJECT_state), the state is the entire state of that object.
However, at the device level, drm_atomic_state refers to a state update
for a limited number of objects.
Thus, drm_atomic_state isn't the entire device state, but only the full
state of some objects in that device. This has been an endless source of
confusion and thus bugs.
We can rename the drm_atomic_state structure to drm_atomic_commit to
make it less confusing.
This patch was created using:
rg -l drm_atomic_state | \
xargs sed -i 's/drm_atomic_state/drm_atomic_commit/g; s/drm_atomic_commit_helper/drm_atomic_state_helper/g'
mv drivers/gpu/drm/tests/drm_atomic_state_test.c drivers/gpu/drm/tests/drm_atomic_commit_test.c

Video Format Data Blocks (VFDBs) contain the necessary information that
needs to be fed to the Optimized Video Timings (OVT) Algorithm.
Also, we require OVT support to cover modes that aren't supported by
earlier standards (e.g. CVT). So, parse all of the relevant VFDB data
and feed it to the OVT Algorithm, to extract all of the missing OVT
modes.

Since the new FAIR policy is in general better than FIFO and almost as
good as round-robin in interactive use cases, plus the latter has not been
the default policy in a long time, we can afford to remove both and leave
just FAIR.
By doing so we can simplify the scheduler code by making the scheduler to
run queue relationship always 1:1 and remove some code.
Also, now that the FIFO policy is gone the tree of entities is not a FIFO
tree any more so rename it to just the tree.

GPUs do not always implement preemption and DRM scheduler definitely
does not support it at the front end scheduling level. This means
execution quanta can be quite long and is controlled by userspace,
consequence of which is picking the "wrong" entity to run can have a
larger negative effect than it would have with a virtual runtime based CPU
scheduler.
Another important consideration is that rendering clients often have
shallow submission queues, meaning they will be entering and exiting the
scheduler's runnable queue often.
Relevant scenario here is what happens when an entity re-joins the
runnable queue with other entities already present. One cornerstone of the
virtual runtime algorithm is to let it re-join at the head and rely on the
virtual runtime accounting and timeslicing to sort it out.
However, as explained above, this may not work perfectly in the GPU world.
Entity could always get to overtake the existing entities, or not,
depending on the submission order and rbtree equal key insertion
behaviour.
Allow interactive jobs to overtake entities already queued up for the
limited case when interactive entity is re-joining the queue after
being idle.
This gives more opportunity for the compositors to have their rendering
executed before the GPU hogs even if they have been configured with the
same scheduling priority.
To classify a client as interactive we look at its average job duration
versus the average for the whole scheduler. We can track this easily by
plugging into the existing job runtime tracking and applying the
exponential moving average window on the past submissions. Then, all other
things being equal, we let the more interactive jobs go first.

The FAIR scheduling policy is built upon the same concepts as the well
known CFS CPU scheduler - entity run queue is sorted by the virtual GPU
time consumed by entities in a way that the entity with least vruntime
runs first.
It is able to avoid total priority starvation, which is one of the
problems with FIFO, and it also does not need for per priority run queues.
As it scales the actual GPU runtime by an exponential factor as the
priority decreases, the virtual runtime for low priority entities grows
faster than for normal priority, pushing them further down the runqueue
order for the same real GPU time spent.
Apart from this fundamental fairness, fair policy is especially strong in
oversubscription workloads where it is able to give more GPU time to short
and bursty workloads when they are running in parallel with GPU heavy
clients submitting deep job queues.

To implement fair scheduling we need a view into the GPU time consumed by
entities. Problem we have is that jobs and entities objects have decoupled
lifetimes, where at the point we have a view into accurate GPU time, we
cannot link back to the entity any longer.
Solve this by adding a light weight entity stats object which is reference
counted by both entity and the job and hence can safely be used from
either side.
With that, the only other thing we need is to add a helper for adding the
job's GPU time into the respective entity stats object, and call it once
the accurate GPU time has been calculated.
The most convenient place to do that is the free job worker for several
reasons. Doing the accounting from the job completion callback would mean
a few locks would need to become irq safe and we would also need to worry
about out of order completions (via dma_fence_is_signaled calls which we
cannot control). In-order completions are critical for GPU time accuracy
which is currently adjusted per fence in the free worker and requires
looking at the next job in the scheduler pending list. We would also need
to add a new lock to protect the scheduler average stats update.
In contrast to those complications, having the accounting done from the
free worker is serialized by definition and all the above complications
are avoided. Downside is there is potential for a time lag between job
completions and GPU time being accounted against the entity. Since that is
partly alleviated by batch processing the completed job queue, and the
scheduling algorithm does not attempt to be completely fair, which would
even be rather impossible to achieve in the GPU world with the current
DRM scheduler design and hardware with no or poor preemption support,
this downside is not considered critical. Plus, in practice the scheduler
is also affected by worker scheduling delays from other angles too. Not
least being able to promptly feed the GPU with new work.
We therefore choose the simple option and can later consider improving
upon it if the need arises.

Round-robin being the non-default policy and unclear how much it is used,
we can notice that it can be implemented using the FIFO data structures if
we only invent a fake submit timestamp which is monotonically increasing
inside drm_sched_rq instances.
So instead of remembering which was the last entity the scheduler worker
picked we can simply bump the picked one to the bottom of the tree, which
ensures round-robin behaviour between all active queued jobs.
If the picked job was the last from a given entity, we remember the
assigned fake timestamp and use it to re-insert the job once it re-joins
the queue. This ensures the job neither overtakes all already queued jobs,
neither it goes last. Instead it keeps the position after the currently
queued jobs and before the ones which haven't yet been queued at the point
the entity left the queue.
Advantage is that we can consolidate to a single code path and remove a
bunch of code. Downside is round-robin mode now needs to lock on the job
pop path but that should not have a measurable performance impact.

Some drivers do not care on teardown whether the last jobs pending in an
entity are actually executed before teardown completed. For such
scenarios, drm_sched_entity_flush() is not the ideal function since it's
intended to wait for jobs to complete.
Make drm_sched_entity_kill() public for that use-case and update the
documentation.

For suspend/resume to work correctly, do for colorop state the same we
do for plane/crtc/connector states: duplicate the state of colorops in a
color pipeline if it's in use by a given plane when suspending and
restore cached colorop states when resuming. While at it, prevent
unused-variable warning when using for_each_new_colorop_in_stage here.

drm_for_each_bridge_in_chain_scoped() and
drm_for_each_bridge_in_chain_from() currently get/put the bridge at each
iteration. But they don't protect the encoder chain, so it could change
(bridges added/removed) while some code is iterating over the list
itself. Such code can then derail on incorrect pointers.
To make iterations safe, augment these for_each macros to lock the encoder
chain mutex at the beginning and unlock it at the end of the loop (be it at
the end of the list, or earlier due to a 'break' or 'return' statement).
This change requires more operations when starting and ending the loop. To
avoid making the macros even more complex, move these operations to helper
functions. Also remname some of the existing helper functions for
consistency.

The per-encoder bridge chain is currently assumed to be static once it is
fully initialized. Work is in progress to add hot-pluggable bridges,
breaking that assumption.
With bridge removal, the encoder chain can change without notice, removing
tail bridges. This can be problematic while iterating over the chain.
Add a mutex to be taken whenever looping or changing the encoder chain.

The initial plane vblank wait operates on display registers,
so it really belongs in the display code proper. Move it there.
We can use intel_parent_irq_enabled() to determine if we can
rely on interrupts or not.
On average we should end up waiting half a frame here, so the
polling interval can be fairly long. 1 ms (which actually
makes poll_timeout_us() use ~250-1000 usec) seems good enough
to me.
