On the embedded platform, certain critical data, such as IMU data, is
transmitted through UART. The tty_flip_buffer_push() interface in the TTY
layer uses system_dfl_wq to handle the flipping of the TTY buffer.
Although the unbound workqueue can create new threads on demand and wake
up the kworker thread on an idle CPU, it may be preempted by real-time
tasks or other high-prio tasks.
flush_to_ldisc() needs to wake up the relevant data handle thread. When
executing __wake_up_common_lock(), it calls spin_lock_irqsave(), which
does not disable preemption but disables migration in RT-Linux. This
prevents the kworker thread from being migrated to other cores by CPU's
balancing logic, resulting in long delays. The call trace is as follows:
__wake_up_common_lock
__wake_up
ep_poll_callback
__wake_up_common
__wake_up_common_lock
__wake_up
n_tty_receive_buf_common
n_tty_receive_buf2

In our system, the processing interval for each frame of IMU data
transmitted via UART can experience significant jitter due to this issue.
Instead of the expected 10 to 15 ms frame processing interval, we see
spikes up to 30 to 35 ms. Moreover, in just one or two hours, there can
be 2 to 3 occurrences of such high jitter, which is quite frequent. This
jitter exceeds the software's tolerable limit of 20 ms.
Introduce flip_wq in tty_port which can be set by tty_port_link_wq() or as
default linked to default workqueue allocated when tty_register_driver().
The default workqueue is allocated with flag WQ_SYSFS, so that cpumask and
nice can be set dynamically. The execution timing of tty_port_link_wq() is
not clearly restricted. The newly added function tty_port_link_driver_wq()
checks whether the flip_wq of the tty_port has already been assigned when
linking the default tty_driver's workqueue to the port. After the user has
set a custom workqueue for a certain tty_port using tty_port_link_wq(), the
system will only use this custom workqueue, even if tty_driver does not
have %TTY_DRIVER_NO_WORKQUEUE flag. When tty_port register device, flip_wq
link operation is done by tty_port_link_driver_wq(), but for in-memory
devices the link operation cannot cover all the cases. Although
tty_port_install() is dedicated for in-memory devices lik PTY to link port
allocated on demand, the logic of tty_port_install() is so simple that
people may not call it, vc_cons[0].d->port is one such case. We check the
buf.flip_wq when flip TTY buffer, if buf.flip_wq of TTY port is NULL, use
system_dfl_wq as a backup.
To avoid naming conflict of the default tty_driver's workqueue, using
'"%s-%s", driver->name, driver->driver_name' as the workqueue name. In
cases where driver_name is not specified and therefore is NULL, the
workqueue is not created. Drivers that do not define driver_name are
potentially in-memory devices like vty, which generally do not require
special workqueue settings. Even with the combination of name and
driver_name, the workqueue names can still be duplicated, as many tty
serial drivers use "ttyS" as dev_name and "serial" as driver_name. I
modified the conflicting driver_name of these drivers by appending a
suffix of _xx based on the corresponding .c file. If this modification is
not made, it could not only lead to duplicate workqueue names but also
result in duplicate entries for the /proc/tty/driver/<driver_name> nodes.
Introduce %TTY_DRIVER_NO_WORKQUEUE flag meaning not to create the
default single tty_driver workqueue. Two reasons why need to introduce the
%TTY_DRIVER_NO_WORKQUEUE flag:
1. If the WQ_SYSFS parameter is enabled, workqueue_sysfs_register() will
fail when trying to create a workqueue with the same name. The pty is an
example of this; if both CONFIG_LEGACY_PTYS and CONFIG_UNIX98_PTYS are
enabled, the call to tty_register_driver() in unix98_pty_init() will fail.
2. Different TTY ports may be used for different tasks, which may require
separate core binding control via workqueues. In this case, the workqueue
created by default in the TTY driver is unnecessary. Enabling this flag
prevents the creation of this redundant workqueue.
After applying this patch, we can set the related UART TTY flip buffer
workqueue by sysfs. We set the cpumask to CPU cores associated with the
IMU tasks, and set the nice to -20. Testing has shown significant
improvement in the previously described issue, with almost no stuttering
occurring anymore.

When userspace enables flow control (CRTSCTS), the driver
deasserts RTS even when the receive buffer has space. This prevents the
peer device from transmitting, causing communication to stall.
The root cause is that the driver unconditionally uses manual RTS control
regardless of flow control mode. When CRTSCTS is set, the hardware should
automatically manage RTS based on buffer status, but the driver overrides
this by setting manual control.
Fix this by introducing port->manual_flow flag. In set_termios(), disable
manual flow when CRTSCTS is set. In set_mctrl(), only assert
SE_UART_MANUAL_RFR when manual_flow is active. Verified by enabling and
disabling hardware flow control with stty.

Some DMA controllers require transfer lengths to be aligned to a
specific boundary. For example, the Tegra GPC DMA requires 4-byte
(word) aligned transfers and will reject unaligned lengths.
Align the TX DMA buffer length down to the DMA controller's copy_align
boundary before submitting the transfer. Any remaining unaligned bytes
will be transmitted via PIO on subsequent calls, which is the existing
fallback behavior when DMA is not used.

Currently the PL011 driver only enables the UART (by setting UARTEN
in REG_CR) in pl011_startup(), so if it is used for earlycon it is
relying on the bootrom/firmware having left the UART enabled.
There's no particular reason not to actively enable the UART before
using it for earlycon, and the earlycon handling for e.g. the 8250
UART sets up the UART in its setup function, so follow that in the
PL011.
This allows use of earlycon with a UART that the firmware hasn't
already been using for its own output, but the main motivation is
that QEMU will otherwise log a message complaining that the guest is
trying to write to a UART it never enabled.

commit a05025d0ce ("tty: serial: samsung_tty: use standard

result in deadlocks:
s3c24xx_serial_set_termios can be called with the port lock, and then
calls dev_dbg, which needs the console mutex. At the same time,
s3c24xx_serial_console_write can be called with the console lock
(e.g., inside console_unlock), and needs the port lock.
To avoid this, move one dev_dbg call and just delete the other.

This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split
over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the
resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next
line.
Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for
me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the
middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial.
So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the
syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed'
scripts.
The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Commit 10904d725f ("serial: qcom-geni: Enable PM runtime for serial
driver") caused BT init to fail during bootup on the RB2 platform,
preventing proper BT initialization. However, BT works correctly after
bootup completes.
The issue occurs when runtime PM is enabled and uart_add_one_port() is
called before wakeup IRQ setup. The uart_add_one_port() call activates
the device through runtime PM, which configures GPIOs to the "qup_x"
pinmux function during runtime resume. When wakeup IRQ registration
happens afterward using dev_pm_set_dedicated_wake_irq(), these GPIOs
are reset back to the "gpio" pinmux function, which impacts the RX GPIO

Clear rx_running flag only after DMA teardown polling completes. In the
previous implementation the flag was being cleared while hardware teardown
was still in progress, creating a mismatch between software state

The DMA IRQ handler does not accounts for the overrun(OE) or any other
errors being reported by the IP before triggering a DMA transaction which
leads to the interrupts not being handled resulting into an IRQ storm.
The way to handle OE is to:
1. Reset the RX FIFO.
2. Read the UART_RESUME register, which clears the internal flag
Earlier, the driver issued DMA transations even in case of OE which shouldn't
be done according to the OE handling mechanism mentioned above, as we are
resetting the FIFO's, refer section: "12.1.6.4.8.1.3.6 Overrun During

The driver updates struct sci_port::tx_cookie to zero right before the TX
work is scheduled, or to -EINVAL when DMA is disabled.
dma_async_is_complete(), called through dma_cookie_status() (and possibly
through dmaengine_tx_status()), considers cookies valid only if they have
values greater than or equal to 1.
Passing zero or -EINVAL to dmaengine_tx_status() before any TX DMA
transfer has started leads to an incorrect TX status being reported, as the
cookie is invalid for the DMA subsystem. This may cause long wait times
when the serial device is opened for configuration before any TX activity
has occurred.
Check that the TX cookie is valid before passing it to
dmaengine_tx_status().

Add error checking for clk_prepare_enable() calls in
dw8250_runtime_resume(). Currently if either clock fails to enable,
the function returns success while leaving clocks in inconsistent state.
This change implements comprehensive error handling by checking the return
values of both clk_prepare_enable() calls. If the second clock enable
operation fails after the first clock has already been successfully
enabled, the code now properly cleans up by disabling and unpreparing
the first clock before returning. The error code is then propagated to
the caller, ensuring that clock enable failures are properly reported
rather than being silently ignored.

(Ilpo Järvinen)
- Move Resizable BAR code to rebar.c (Ilpo Järvinen)
- Add pci_rebar_size_supported() and use it in i915 and xe (Ilpo
Järvinen)
- Add pci_rebar_get_max_size() and use it in xe and amdgpu (Ilpo
Järvinen)
Power management and error handling:
- For drivers using PCI legacy suspend, save config state at suspend
so that state (not any earlier state from enumeration, probe, or
error recovery) will be restored when resuming (Lukas Wunner)
- For devices with no driver or a driver that lacks power management,
save config state at hibernate so that state (not any earlier state
from enumeration, probe, or error recovery) will be restored when
resuming (Lukas Wunner)
- Save device config space on device addition, before driver binding,
so error recovery works more reliably (Lukas Wunner)
- Drop pci_save_state() from several drivers that no longer need it
since the PCI core always does it and pci_restore_state() no longer
invalidates the saved state (Lukas Wunner)
- Document use of pci_save_state() by drivers to capture the state
they want restored during error recovery (Lukas Wunner)
Power control:
- Add a struct pci_ops.assert_perst() function pointer to
assert/deassert PCIe PERST# and implement it for the qcom driver
(Krishna Chaitanya Chundru)
- Add DT binding and pwrctrl driver for the Toshiba TC9563 PCIe
switch, which must be held in reset after poweron so the pwrctrl
driver can configure the switch via I2C before bringing up the
links (Krishna Chaitanya Chundru)
Endpoint framework:
- Convert the endpoint doorbell test to use a threaded IRQ to fix a
'sleeping while atomic' issue (Bhanu Seshu Kumar Valluri)
- Add endpoint VNTB MSI doorbell support to reduce latency between
host and endpoint (Frank Li)
New native PCIe controller drivers:
- Add CIX Sky1 host controller DT binding and driver (Hans Zhang)
- Add NXP S32G host controller DT binding and driver (Vincent
Guittot)
- Add Renesas RZ/G3S host controller DT binding and driver (Claudiu
Beznea)
- Add SpacemiT K1 host controller DT binding and driver (Alex Elder)
Amlogic Meson PCIe controller driver:
- Update DT binding to name DBI region 'dbi', not 'elbi', and update
driver to support both (Manivannan Sadhasivam)
Apple PCIe controller driver:
- Move struct pci_host_bridge allocation from pci_host_common_init()
to callers, which significantly simplifies pcie-apple (Marc
Zyngier)
Broadcom STB PCIe controller driver:
- Disable advertising ASPM L0s support correctly (Jim Quinlan)
- Add a panic/die handler to print diagnostic info in case PCIe
caused an unrecoverable abort (Jim Quinlan)
Cadence PCIe controller driver:
- Add module support for Cadence platform host and endpoint
controller driver (Manikandan K Pillai)
- Split headers into 'legacy' (LGA) and 'high perf' (HPA) to prepare
for new CIX Sky1 driver (Manikandan K Pillai)
MediaTek PCIe controller driver:
- Convert DT binding to YAML schema (Christian Marangi)
- Add Airoha AN7583 DT compatible and driver support (Christian
Marangi)
Qualcomm PCIe controller driver:
- Add Qualcomm Kaanapali to SM8550 DT binding (Qiang Yu)
- Add required 'power-domains' and 'resets' to qcom sa8775p, sc7280,
sc8280xp, sm8150, sm8250, sm8350, sm8450, sm8550, x1e80100 DT
schemas (Krzysztof Kozlowski)
- Look up OPP using both frequency and data rate (not just frequency)
so RPMh votes can account for both (Krishna Chaitanya Chundru)
Rockchip DesignWare PCIe controller driver:
- Add Rockchip RK3528 compatible strings in DT binding (Yao Zi)
STMicroelectronics STM32MP25 PCIe controller driver:
- Fix a race between link training and endpoint register
initialization (Christian Bruel)
- Align endpoint allocations to match the ATU requirements (Christian
Bruel)
Synopsys DesignWare PCIe controller driver:
- Clear L1 PM Substate Capability 'Supported' bits unless glue driver
says it's supported, which prevents users from enabling non-working
L1SS. Currently only qcom and tegra194 support L1SS (Bjorn Helgaas)
- Remove now-superfluous L1SS disable code from tegra194 (Bjorn
Helgaas)
- Configure L1SS support in dw-rockchip when DT says
'supports-clkreq' (Shawn Lin)
TI Keystone PCIe controller driver:
- Fail the probe instead of silently succeeding if ks_pcie_of_data
didn't specify Root Complex or Endpoint mode (Siddharth Vadapalli)
- Make keystone buildable as a loadable module, except on ARM32 where
hook_fault_code() is __init (Siddharth Vadapalli)"

Pull printk updates from Petr Mladek:
- Allow creaing nbcon console drivers with an unsafe write_atomic()
callback that can only be called by the final nbcon_atomic_flush_unsafe().
Otherwise, the driver would rely on the kthread.
It is going to be used as the-best-effort approach for an
experimental nbcon netconsole driver, see
https://lore.kernel.org/r/20251121-nbcon-v1-2-503d17b2b4af@debian.org
Note that a safe .write_atomic() callback is supposed to work in NMI
context. But some networking drivers are not safe even in IRQ
context:
https://lore.kernel.org/r/oc46gdpmmlly5o44obvmoatfqo5bhpgv7pabpvb6sjuqioymcg@gjsma3ghoz35
In an ideal world, all networking drivers would be fixed first and
the atomic flush would be blocked only in NMI context. But it brings
the question how reliable networking drivers are when the system is
in a bad state. They might block flushing more reliable serial
consoles which are more suitable for serious debugging anyway.
- Allow to use the last 4 bytes of the printk ring buffer.
- Prevent queuing IRQ work and block printk kthreads when consoles are
suspended. Otherwise, they create non-necessary churn or even block
the suspend.
- Release console_lock() between each record in the kthread used for
legacy consoles on RT. It might significantly speed up the boot.
- Release nbcon context between each record in the atomic flush. It
prevents stalls of the related printk kthread after it has lost the
ownership in the middle of a record
- Add support for NBCON consoles into KDB
- Add %ptsP modifier for printing struct timespec64 and use it where
possible
- Misc code clean up

- klp-build livepatch module generation (Josh Poimboeuf)
Introduce new objtool features and a klp-build
script to generate livepatch modules using a
source .patch as input.
This builds on concepts from the longstanding out-of-tree
kpatch project which began in 2012 and has been used for
many years to generate livepatch modules for production kernels.
However, this is a complete rewrite which incorporates
hard-earned lessons from 12+ years of maintaining kpatch.
Key improvements compared to kpatch-build:
- Integrated with objtool: Leverages objtool's existing control-flow
graph analysis to help detect changed functions.
- Works on vmlinux.o: Supports late-linked objects, making it
compatible with LTO, IBT, and similar.
- Simplified code base: ~3k fewer lines of code.
- Upstream: No more out-of-tree #ifdef hacks, far less cruft.
- Cleaner internals: Vastly simplified logic for symbol/section/reloc
inclusion and special section extraction.
- Robust __LINE__ macro handling: Avoids false positive binary diffs
caused by the __LINE__ macro by introducing a fix-patch-lines script
which injects #line directives into the source .patch to preserve
the original line numbers at compile time.
- Disassemble code with libopcodes instead of running objdump

- Disassemble support (-d option to objtool) by Alexandre Chartre,

The original code tried to find a console that has CON_BOOT _or_
CON_ENABLED flag set. The flag CON_ENABLED is set to all registered
consoles, so in this case this check is always true, even for the
CON_BOOT consoles.
The initial intent of the kgdboc_earlycon_init was to get a console
early (CON_BOOT) or later on in the process (CON_ENABLED). The
code was using for_each_console macro, meaning that all console structs
were previously registered on the printk() machinery. At this point,
any console found on for_each_console is safe for kgdboc_earlycon_init
to use.
Dropping the check makes the code cleaner, and avoids further confusion
by future readers of the code.

...due to a dependency loop:
depmod: ERROR: Cycle detected: 8250 -> 8250_base -> 8250

This is caused by the move of 8250 RSA code from 8250_port.c (in
8250_base.ko) into 8250_rsa.c (in 8250.ko) by the commit 5a128fb475
("serial: 8250: move RSA functions to 8250_rsa.c"). The commit
b20d6576cd ("serial: 8250: export RSA functions") tried to fix a
missing symbol issue with EXPORTs but those then cause this dependency
cycle.
Break dependency loop by moving 8250_rsa.o from 8250.ko to 8250_base.ko
and by passing univ8250_port_base_ops to univ8250_rsa_support() that
can make a local copy of it.

Add the driver for on-chip UART used on Loongson family chips.
The hardware is similar to NS16550A, but there are the following
differences:
- Some chips (such as Loongson-2K2000) have added a fractional division
register to obtain the required baud rate accurately, so the
{get,set}_divisor callback is overridden.
- Due to hardware defects, quirk handling is required for

The KEBA UART is found in the system FPGA of KEBA PLC devices. It is
mostly 8250 compatible with extension for some UART modes.
3 different variants exist. The simpliest variant supports only RS-232
and is used for debug interfaces. The next variant supports only RS-485
and is used mostly for communication with KEBA panel devices. The third
variant is able to support RS-232, RS-485 and RS-422. For this variant
not only the mode of the UART is configured, also the physics and
transceivers are switched according to the mode.

Commit fe7f0fa43c ("serial: 8250: Support rs485 devicetree properties")
retrieves rs485 properties for 8250 drivers. These properties are read
from the firmware node of the device within uart_get_rs485_mode(). If the
firmware node does not exist, then the rs485 flags are still reset. Thus,
8250 driver cannot set rs485 flags to enable a defined rs485 mode during
driver loading. This is no problem so far, as no 8250 driver sets the
rs485 flags.
The default rs485 mode can also be set by firmware nodes. But for some
devices a firmware node does not exist. E.g., for a PCIe based serial
interface on x86 no device tree is available and the ACPI information of
the BIOS often cannot by modified. In this case it shall be possible,
that a driver works out of the box by setting a reasonable default rs485
mode.
If no firmware node exists, then it should be possible for the driver to
set a reasonable default rs485 mode. Therefore, reset rs485 flags only
if a firmware node exists.

The Qualcomm automotive SA8255p SoC relies on firmware to configure
platform resources, including clocks, interconnects and TLMM.
The driver requests resources operations over SCMI using power
and performance protocols.
The SCMI power protocol enables or disables resources like clocks,
interconnect paths, and TLMM (GPIOs) using runtime PM framework APIs,
such as resume/suspend, to control power states(on/off).
The SCMI performance protocol manages UART baud rates, with each baud
rate represented by a performance level. The driver uses the
dev_pm_opp_set_level() API to request the desired baud rate by
specifying the performance level.

The GENI serial driver currently handles power resource management
through calls to the statically defined geni_serial_resources_on() and
geni_serial_resources_off() functions. This approach reduces modularity
and limits support for platforms with diverse power management
mechanisms, including resource managed by firmware.
Improve modularity and enable better integration with platform-specific
power management, introduce support for runtime PM. Use
pm_runtime_resume_and_get() and pm_runtime_put_sync() within the
qcom_geni_serial_pm() callback to control resource power state
transitions based on UART power state changes.

In sprd_clk_init(), when devm_clk_get() returns -EPROBE_DEFER
for either uart or source clock, we should propagate the
error instead of just warning and continuing with NULL clocks.
Currently the driver only emits a warning when clock acquisition
fails and proceeds with NULL clock pointers. This can lead to
issues later when the clocks are actually needed. More importantly,
when the clock provider is not ready yet and returns -EPROBE_DEFER,
we should return this error to allow deferred probing.
This change adds explicit checks for -EPROBE_DEFER after both:
1. devm_clk_get(uport->dev, uart)
2. devm_clk_get(uport->dev, source)
When -EPROBE_DEFER is encountered, the function now returns
-EPROBE_DEFER to let the driver framework retry probing
later when the clock dependencies are resolved.

Currently if a user enqueue a work item using schedule_delayed_work() the
used wq is "system_wq" (per-cpu wq) while queue_delayed_work() use
WORK_CPU_UNBOUND (used when a cpu is not specified). The same applies to
schedule_work() that is using system_wq and queue_work(), that makes use
again of WORK_CPU_UNBOUND.
This lack of consistentcy cannot be addressed without refactoring the API.
This patch continues the effort to refactor worqueue APIs, which has begun
with the change introducing new workqueues and a new alloc_workqueue flag:
commit 128ea9f6cc ("workqueue: Add system_percpu_wq and system_dfl_wq")
commit 930c2ea566 ("workqueue: Add new WQ_PERCPU flag")
system_dfl_wq should be the default workqueue so as not to enforce
locality constraints for random work whenever it's not required.
The old system_unbound_wq will be kept for a few release cycles.

changed the behavior of pci_restore_state() such that it became necessary
to call pci_save_state() afterwards, lest recovery from subsequent PCI

The commit has just been reverted and so all the pci_save_state() after

In 3.7, 8250 was unintentionally renamed to 8250_core. This happened in
the commit 835d844d1a (8250_pnp: do pnp probe before legacy probe).
This made 8250.<xxxx> module options effectively defunct. Instead,
8250_core.<xxxx> worked.
In 3.9, the commit f2b8dfd9e4 (serial: 8250: Keep 8250.<xxxx> module
options functional after driver rename) made the original options work
again by introducing a hack.
Later in 3.9, the commit 9196d8acd7 (TTY: 8250, revert module name

then, the hack was there to support the transient 8250_core.<xxxx>
options. Those were present only in the 3.7..3.9 range.
These transient options were deprecated by 9326b047e4 (TTY: 8250,
deprecated 8250_core.* options) in v3.9 too.
Now, after those 12 years, it is time to get rid of this hack

Neither uart_do_autoconfig(), nor uart_wait_modem_status() can return
-ENOIOCTLCMD. The ENOIOCTLCMD checks are there to check if 'cmd' matched
against TIOCSERCONFIG, and TIOCMIWAIT respectively. (With 0 or error in

Therefore, the code can simply return from the TIOCSERCONFIG and

values.

When compiled with -ffunction-sections (e.g., for LTO, livepatch, dead
code elimination, AutoFDO, or Propeller), the startup() function gets
compiled into the .text.startup section (or in some cases
.text.startup.constprop.0 or .text.startup.isra.0).
However, the .text.startup and .text.startup.* sections are also used by
the compiler for __attribute__((constructor)) code.
This naming conflict causes the vmlinux linker script to wrongly place
startup() function code in .init.text, which gets freed during boot.
Some builds have a mix of objects, both with and without
-ffunctions-sections, so it's not possible for the linker script to
disambiguate with #ifdef CONFIG_FUNCTION_SECTIONS or similar. This
means that "startup" unfortunately needs to be prohibited as a function
name.
Rename startup() to icom_startup(). For consistency, also rename its
shutdown() counterpart to icom_shutdown().

For RSCI, the overrun_reg is CSR (0x48), causing the sci_getreg() call
inside the sci_handle_fifo_overrun() function to index outside the
bounds of the regs array, which currently has a size of 20, as specified
by SCI_NR_REGS.
Because of this, we end up accessing memory outside of RSCI's
rsci_port_params structure, which, when interpreted as a plat_sci_reg,
happens to have a non-zero size, causing the following WARN when
sci_serial_in() is called, as the accidental size does not match the
supported register sizes.
The existence of the overrun_reg needs to be checked because
SCIx_SH3_SCIF_REGTYPE has overrun_reg set to SCLSR, but SCLSR is not
present in the regs array.
Avoid calling sci_getreg() for port types which don't use standard
register handling.
Use the ops->read_reg() and ops->write_reg() functions to properly read
and write registers for RSCI, and change the type of the status variable
to accommodate the 32-bit CSR register.
sci_getreg() and sci_serial_in() are also called with overrun_reg in the
sci_mpxed_interrupt() interrupt handler, but that code path is not used
for RSCI, as it does not have a muxed interrupt.

When the '8250_exar' module is loaded into the kernel, a kernel trace
with 'WARN_ON(legacy_iomap_table[bar])' is dumped to the console,
because the old pci table mapping is still used in '8250_pcilib'.
The old function have been deprecated in commit e354bb84a4 ("PCI:
Deprecate pcim_iomap_table(), pcim_iomap_regions_request_all()").
The remapping already takes or must take place in the driver that calls
the function 'serial8250_pci_setup_port()'. The remapping should only be
called once via 'pcim_iomap()'. Therefore the remapping moved to the
caller of 'serial8250_pci_setup_port()'.
To replace the outdated/legacy iomap_table processing in '8250_pcilib' the
function signature of 'serial8250_pci_setup_port()' has been extended with
an already iomapped address value. So this can be used directly without
io mapping again.

Currently, the i.MX UART driver enables wake-related registers for all
UART devices by default. However, this is unnecessary for devices that
are not configured as wakeup sources. To address this, add a
device_may_wakeup() check before configuring the UART wake-related
registers.

UART can be used as a wakeup source for am62 from suspend to ram states.
To enable wakeup from UART am62 requires a wakeup flag being set in the
pinctrl.
If the device is marked as wakeup enabled, select the 'wakeup' pinctrl
state on suspend and restore the default pinctrl state on resume.

When there is a heavy load of receiving characters to all
four UART's, the warning 'Hardware RX FIFO overrun' is
sometimes detected.
The current implementation always service first the highest UART
until no more interrupt and then service another UART
(ex: UART3 will be serviced for as long as there are interrupts
for it, then UART2, etc).
This commit handle all individual interrupt sources before
reading the global IRQ register again.
This commit has also a nice side-effect of improving the efficiency
of the driver by reducing the number of reads of the global
IRQ register.

Current implementation uses `CDNS_UART_REGISTER_SPACE(0x1000)`
for request_mem_region() and ioremap() in cdns_uart_request_port() API.
The cadence/xilinx IP has register space defined from offset 0x0 to 0x48.
It also mentions that the register map is defined as [6:0]. So, the upper
region may/maynot be used based on the IP integration.
In Axiado AX3000 SoC two UART instances are defined
0x100 apart. That is creating issue in some other instance due to overlap
with addresses.
Since, this address space is already being defined in the
devicetree, use the same when requesting the register space.

GENI UART driver currently supports only non-DFS (Dynamic Frequency
Scaling) mode for source frequency selection. However, to operate correctly
in DFS mode, the GENI SCLK register must be programmed with the appropriate
DFS index. Failing to do so can result in incorrect frequency selection
Add support for Dynamic Frequency Scaling (DFS) mode in the GENI UART
driver by configuring the GENI_CLK_SEL register with the appropriate DFS
index. This ensures correct frequency selection when operating in DFS mode.
Replace the UART driver-specific logic for clock selection with the GENI
common driver function to obtain the desired frequency and corresponding
clock index. This improves maintainability and consistency across
GENI-based drivers.

The ida_alloc_range() function expects an inclusive range, meaning both
the start and end values are valid allocation targets. Passing nr_ports
as the upper bound allows allocation of an ID equal to nr_ports, which
is out of bounds when used as an index into the port array.
Fix this by subtracting 1 from nr_ports in both calls to ida_alloc_range(),
ensuring the allocated ID stays within the valid range
[start, nr_ports - 1].
This prevents potential out-of-bounds access when the allocated ID is used
as an index.

When trying to set MCR[2], XON1 is incorrectly accessed instead. And when
writing to the TCR register to configure flow control levels, we are
incorrectly writing to the MSR register. The default value of $00 is then
used for TCR, which means that selectable trigger levels in FCR are used
in place of TCR.
TCR/TLR access requires EFR[4] (enable enhanced functions) and MCR[2]
to be set. EFR[4] is already set in probe().
MCR access requires LCR[7] to be zero.
Since LCR is set to $BF when trying to set MCR[2], XON1 is incorrectly
accessed instead because MCR shares the same address space as XON1.
Since MCR[2] is unmodified and still zero, when writing to TCR we are in
fact writing to MSR because TCR/TLR registers share the same address space
as MSR/SPR.
Fix by first removing useless reconfiguration of EFR[4] (enable enhanced
functions), as it is already enabled in sc16is7xx_probe() since commit
43c51bb573 ("sc16is7xx: make sure device is in suspend once probed").
Now LCR is $00, which means that MCR access is enabled.
Also remove regcache_cache_bypass() calls since we no longer access the
enhanced registers set, and TCR is already declared as volatile (in fact
by declaring MSR as volatile, which shares the same address).
Finally disable access to TCR/TLR registers after modifying them by
clearing MCR[2].
Note: the comment about "... and internal clock div" is wrong and can be
ignored/removed as access to internal clock div registers (DLL/DLH)
is permitted only when LCR[7] is logic 1, not when enhanced features
is enabled. And DLL/DLH access is not needed in sc16is7xx_startup().

pointed out [2] that some cases of using an out-of-tree build of an

also have to be GPL anyway so it's unnecessary to spell it out in the

When the PSLVERR_RESP_EN parameter is set to 1, the device generates
an error response if an attempt is made to read an empty RBR (Receive
Buffer Register) while the FIFO is enabled.
In serial8250_do_startup(), calling serial_port_out(port, UART_LCR,
UART_LCR_WLEN8) triggers dw8250_check_lcr(), which invokes
dw8250_force_idle() and serial8250_clear_and_reinit_fifos(). The latter
function enables the FIFO via serial_out(p, UART_FCR, p->fcr).
Execution proceeds to the serial_port_in(port, UART_RX).
This satisfies the PSLVERR trigger condition.
When another CPU (e.g., using printk()) is accessing the UART (UART
is busy), the current CPU fails the check (value & ~UART_LCR_SPAR) ==
(lcr & ~UART_LCR_SPAR) in dw8250_check_lcr(), causing it to enter
dw8250_force_idle().
Put serial_port_out(port, UART_LCR, UART_LCR_WLEN8) under the port->lock

On i386, when
CONFIG_X86_INTEL_CE=y
# CONFIG_SERIAL_8250 is not set
it will try to compile the driver and use the stub simultaneously.
This breaks the build. Fix it by making sure that the driver
compiles only when CONFIG_SERIAL_8250 is also enabled.
On top of that ensure that CONFIG_SERIAL_8250 is actually set to 'y'
and not 'm' as the later makes no sense for this platform. The hook

New port types cannot be added in serial_core.h, which is shared with
userspace.
In order to support new port types, the coming new ones will have
BIT(7) set in the id value, and in this case, uartport->type is
set to PORT_GENERIC.
This commit therefore changes all the places where the port type is
read, by not relying on uartport->type but on the private

Commit 7a637784d5 ("serial: imx: reduce RX interrupt frequency")
introduced a regression on the i.MX6UL EVK board. The issue can be
reproduced with the following steps:
- Open vi on the board.
- Paste a text file (~150 characters).
- Save the file, then repeat the process.
- Compare the sha256sum of the saved files.
The checksums do not match due to missing characters or entire lines.
Fix this by restoring the RXTL value to 1 when the UART is used as a
console.
This ensures timely RX interrupts and reliable data reception in console
mode.
With this change, pasted content is saved correctly, and checksums are
always consistent.

Commit 1788cf6a91 ("tty: serial: switch from circ_buf to kfifo")
introduced an error in the TX DMA handling for 8250_omap.
When the OMAP_DMA_TX_KICK flag is set, the "skip_byte" is pulled from
the kfifo and emitted directly in order to start the DMA. While the
kfifo is updated, dma->tx_size is not decreased. This leads to
uart_xmit_advance() called in omap_8250_dma_tx_complete() advancing the
kfifo by one too much.
In practice, transmitting N bytes has been seen to result in the last
N-1 bytes being sent repeatedly.
This change fixes the problem by moving all of the dma setup after the
OMAP_DMA_TX_KICK handling and using kfifo_len() instead of the DMA size
for the 4-byte cutoff check. This slightly changes the behaviour at
buffer wraparound, but it still transmits the correct bytes somehow.
Now, the "skip_byte" would no longer be accounted to the stats. As
previously, dma->tx_size included also this skip byte, up->icount.tx was
updated by aforementioned uart_xmit_advance() in
omap_8250_dma_tx_complete(). Fix this by using the uart_fifo_out()
helper instead of bare kfifo_get().

Systems that issue PCIe hot reset requests during a suspend/resume
cycle cause PCI1XXXX device revisions prior to C0 to get its UART
configuration registers reset to hardware default values. This results
in device inaccessibility and data transfer failures. Starting with
Revision C0, support was added in the device hardware (via the Hot
Reset Disable Bit) to allow resetting only the PCIe interface and its
associated logic, but preserving the UART configuration during a hot
reset. This patch enables the hot reset disable feature during suspend/
resume for C0 and later revisions of the device.

uart_port_lock() and uart_port_unlock() are (at the same time) defined
as:
* functions in include/linux/serial_core.h
* macros in drivers/tty/serial/serial_core.c
The former are sane uart port lock wrappers.
The latter _lock() does something completely different: it inspects
a uart_state, obtains a uart_port from it, and increases its reference
count. And if that all succeeded, the port is locked too.
Similarly, the _unlock() counterpart first unlocks and then decrements
the refcount too.
This state is REALLY CONFUSING.
So rename the latter (local .c macros):
* uart_port_lock() -> uart_port_ref_lock(), and
* uart_port_unlock() -> uart_port_unlock_deref().
Now, the forbidden while-at-it part: convert from a macro to an inline
-- do it here as the passed 'flags' have to be pointer to ulong now. So
we avoid doubled changes on identical LOCs.

The MSM UART DM controller supports different working modes, e.g. DMA or
the "single-character mode", where all reads/writes operate on a single
character rather than 4 chars (32-bit) at once. When using earlycon,
__msm_console_write() always writes 4 characters at a time, but we don't
know which mode the bootloader was using and we don't set the mode either.
This causes garbled output if the bootloader was using the single-character
mode, because only every 4th character appears in the serial console, e.g.
"[ 00oni pi 000xf0[ 00i s 5rm9(l)l s 1 1 SPMTA 7:C 5[ 00A ade k d[
00ano:ameoi .Q1B[ 00ac _idaM00080oo'"
If the bootloader was using the DMA ("DM") mode, output would likely fail
entirely. Later, when the full serial driver probes, the port is
re-initialized and output works as expected.
Fix this also for earlycon by clearing the DMEN register and
reset+re-enable the transmitter to apply the change. This ensures the
transmitter is in the expected state before writing any output.

The existing .data field of_sci_match is changed to a structure containing
all what that can be statically initialized, and avoid a call to
'sci_probe_regmap', in both 'sci_init_single', and 'early_console_setup'.
'sci_probe_regmap' is now assumed to be called in the only case where the
device description is from a board file instead of a dts.
In this way, there is no need to patch 'sci_probe_regmap' for adding new

struct gpio_chip now has callbacks for setting line values that return
an integer, allowing to indicate failures. Convert the driver to using

The absence of an alias in the device tree results in an invalid line
number, causing the driver probe to fail for GENI serial.
To prevent probe failures, dynamically assign line numbers if an alias is
not present in the device tree for non-console ports.

When two instances of uart devices are probing, a concurrency race can
occur. If one thread calls uart_register_driver function, which first
allocates and assigns memory to 'uart_state' member of uart_driver
structure, the other instance can bypass uart driver registration and
call ulite_assign. This calls uart_add_one_port, which expects the uart
driver to be fully initialized. This leads to a kernel panic due to a
null pointer dereference:

To prevent it, move uart driver registration in to init function. This
will ensure that uart_driver is always registered when probe function
is called.

Tidy up ACPI ID table:
- drop ACPI_PTR() and hence replace acpi.h with mod_devicetable.h et al.
- drop comma in the terminator entry
With that done, extend compile test coverage.
