fde38b106d drm/i915/selftests: Nuke live_forcewake_domains selftest
The live_forcewake_domains selftest doesn't really test anything
particularly sensible. It only runs on platforms that have RMbus
unclaimer error detection, but that only catches display registers
which the test doesn't even access.

I suppose if we really wanted to we might try to make the test
exercise the GT FIFO instead by writing GT registers as fast
as possible, and then checking GTFIFODBG to see if the FIFO has
overflowed. But dunno if there's much point in that. I think a
GT FIFO overflow might even be fatal to the machine.

So in its current for the test doesn't really make sense,
and it's in the way of moving all the RMbus noclaim stuff
to the display driver side. So let's just get rid of it.

drm/i915: add WQ_PERCPU to alloc_workqueue users
Currently if a user enqueue a work item using schedule_delayed_work() the
used wq is "system_wq" (per-cpu wq) while queue_delayed_work() use
WORK_CPU_UNBOUND (used when a cpu is not specified). The same applies to
schedule_work() that is using system_wq and queue_work(), that makes use
again of WORK_CPU_UNBOUND.
This lack of consistentcy cannot be addressed without refactoring the API.

alloc_workqueue() treats all queues as per-CPU by default, while unbound
workqueues must opt-in via WQ_UNBOUND.

This default is suboptimal: most workloads benefit from unbound queues,
allowing the scheduler to place worker threads where they’re needed and
reducing noise when CPUs are isolated.

This change adds a new WQ_PERCPU flag to explicitly request
alloc_workqueue() to be per-cpu when WQ_UNBOUND has not been specified.

With the introduction of the WQ_PERCPU flag (equivalent to !WQ_UNBOUND),
any alloc_workqueue() caller that doesn’t explicitly specify WQ_UNBOUND
must now use WQ_PERCPU.

This patch continues the effort to refactor worqueue APIs, which has
begun with the change introducing new workqueues:

commit 930c2ea566 ("workqueue: Add new WQ_PERCPU flag")

Once migration is complete, WQ_UNBOUND can be removed and unbound will
become the implicit default.

571cc8356c drm/i915/selftests: Fix build after dma-fence locking rework
The i915_active selftest no longer builds after the dma-fence locking
rework because it directly accessed the fence’s spinlock. The helper
dma_fence_spinlock() must now be used to obtain the spinlock. Update the
selftest to use dma_fence_spinlock() accordingly.

32a92f8c89 Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL arguments
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split
over multiple lines.  I only did the ones that are easy to verify the
resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next
line.

Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for
me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the
middle of the script.  I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial.

So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the
syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed'
scripts.

The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want
whitespace cleanup anyway.

323bbfcf1e Convert 'alloc_flex' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much
smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex()
interface.

As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute
force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather
than 'objs*'.

bf4afc53b7 Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

69050f8d6d treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

ba110db8e1 gpu: Move DRM buddy allocator one level up (part two)
Move the DRM buddy allocator one level up so that it can be used by GPU
drivers (example, nova-core) that have usecases other than DRM (such as
VFIO vGPU support). Modify the API, structures and Kconfigs to use
"gpu_buddy" terminology. Adapt the drivers and tests to use the new API.

The commit cannot be split due to bisectability, however no functional
change is intended. Verified by running K-UNIT tests and build tested
various configurations.

8103ecc199 drm/i915/selftests: Keep mock file open during unfaultable migrate with fill
igt_mmap_migrate() tests migration with various parameters.
In one of the cases, where FILL and UNFAULTABLE flags are set,
during first stages of this test, a mock file is opened in
igt_mmap_offset(), which results in allocating GEM objects for
page table structures and scratch in GPU mappable memory.

Then, also in igt_mmap_offset(), the file is closed (fput) and
the cleanup of these objects is scheduled on a delayed worqueue,
which is designed to execute after unspecified amount of time.

Next, the test calls igt_fill_mappable() to fill mappable GPU
memory. At this point, three scenarios are possible
(N = max size of GPU memory for this test in MiB):
 1) the objects allocated for the mock file get cleaned up after
    crucial part of the test is over, so the memory is full with
    the 1 MiB they occupy and N - 1 MiB added by
    igt_fill_mappable(), so the migration fails properly;
 2) the object cleanup fires before igt_fill_mappable()
    completes, so the whole memory is populated with N MiB from
    igt_fill_mappable(), so migration fails as well;
 3) the object cleanup is performed right after fill is done,
    so only N - 1 MiB are in the mappable portion of GPU memory,
    allowing the migration to succeed - we'd expect no space
    left to perform migration, but an object was able to fit in
    the remaining 1 MiB, which caused get_user() to succeed, so
    a page fault did not fail.

The test incorrectly assumes that the GPU mappable memory state
is unchanging during the test. Amend this by keeping the mock
file open until migration and page fault checking is complete.

b3c8fa0d9c drm/{i915, xe}/display: pass parent interface to display probe
Let's gradually start calling i915 and xe parent, or core, drivers from
display via function pointers passed at display probe.

Going forward, the struct intel_display_parent_interface is expected to
include const pointers to sub-structs by functionality, for example:

struct intel_display_parent_interface {
	/* ... */
	const struct intel_display_rpm *rpm;
};

This is a baby step towards not building display as part of both i915

00423c4a7d drm/i915: split out separate files for jiffies timeout and wait helpers
Add i915_jiffies.h and intel_display_jiffies.h for jiffies timeout and
wait helpers, and use them separately from i915 and display. This helps
reduce the display dependency on i915_utils.h.

Long term, both msecs_to_jiffies_timeout() and
wait_remaining_ms_from_jiffies() really belong in core kernel headers,
but for now unblock display refactoring.

d4550f58c7 drm/i915: Wait for page_sizes_gtt in gtt selftest on CHV/BXT+VTD
VMA pinning to GGTT is now commited asynchronously in CHV / BXT+VDT
environments to avoid lock inversion among reservation_ww and cpu_hotplug
locks, the latter acquired from stop_machine().  Then,
vma->resource->page_sizes_gtt the test uses as shift count may still be
not populated (equal 0) after i915_vma_pin() returns.  Wait for VMA bind
completion in those cases to avoid shift-out-of-bounds kernel warnings and
the test case failing with -EBADSLT.

drm/i915/selftests: Change mock_request() to return error pointers
There was an error pointer vs NULL bug in __igt_breadcrumbs_smoketest().
The __mock_request_alloc() function implements the
smoketest->request_alloc() function pointer.  It was supposed to return
error pointers, but it propogates the NULL return from mock_request()
so in the event of a failure, it would lead to a NULL pointer
dereference.

To fix this, change the mock_request() function to return error pointers
and update all the callers to expect that.

Make i915->display pointer opaque to most of core i915 driver. Lots of
places now need explicit include of intel_display_core.h, or a more

As the first step towards making struct intel_display an opaque pointer
in i915 and xe drivers, convert the struct drm_i915_private and struct
xe_device display members into pointers.

Initially, add temporary struct intel_display __display members, and
point display at it to avoid dynamic allocation. In the future, we can
drop this, and switch to dynamic allocation.

The conversion is done simply with sed:

 3) Per-node kthreads _prefer_ to be affine to a specific NUMA node. This
    is not a correctness constraint but merely a preference in terms of
    memory locality. kswapd and kcompactd both fall into this category.
    The affinity is set manually like for any other task and CPU-hotplug
    is supposed to be handled by the relevant subsystem so that the task
    is properly reaffined whenever a given CPU from the node comes up.
    Also care should be taken so that the node affinity doesn't cross
    isolated (nohz_full) cpumask boundaries.
 
 4) Similar to the previous point except kthreads have a _preferred_
    affinity different than a node. Both RCU boost kthreads and RCU

 identified users, with more or less success when it comes to handle

b04e317b52 treewide: Introduce kthread_run_worker[_on_cpu]()
kthread_create() creates a kthread without running it yet. kthread_run()
creates a kthread and runs it.

On the other hand, kthread_create_worker() creates a kthread worker and
runs it.

This difference in behaviours is confusing. Also there is no way to
create a kthread worker and affine it using kthread_bind_mask() or
kthread_affine_preferred() before starting it.

Consolidate the behaviours and introduce kthread_run_worker[_on_cpu]()
that behaves just like kthread_run(). kthread_create_worker[_on_cpu]()
will now only create a kthread worker without starting it.
