af602c7aa5 bonding: do not clear curr_active_slave prematurely when releasing all slaves
When releasing all slaves during bond destruction (all == true),
__bond_release_one() unconditionally clears bond->curr_active_slave to
NULL in every iteration.

If a backup slave is released before the active slave,
bond_alb_deinit_slave() triggers rlb_teach_disabled_mac_on_primary(),
which increments the active slave dev promiscuity counter and sets
bond_info->primary_is_promisc = 1.

Because bond->curr_active_slave was prematurely cleared to NULL when
releasing the backup slave, the subsequent iteration releasing the active
slave evaluates oldcurrent as NULL, so bond_change_active_slave(bond, NULL)
is skipped. Consequently, bond_alb_handle_active_change() is never called
to decrement the promiscuity counter, permanently leaking promiscuous
mode on the physical device after bond teardown.

When oldcurrent == slave, bond_change_active_slave(bond, NULL) already sets
bond->curr_active_slave to NULL. We only need to avoid selecting a new
active slave when all == true. Replace the if (all) branch with
if (!all && oldcurrent == slave).

70f3995830 bonding: alb: fix uninitialized transport header access in alb_determine_nd()
alb_determine_nd() uses icmp6_hdr(skb) to inspect ICMPv6 headers.
However, in xmit paths (e.g. packets sent via AF_PACKET / raw sockets
or forwarded packets), skb->transport_header is not guaranteed to be
initialized. While pskb_network_may_pull() ensures the packet data is
linear starting from the network header, it does not set or adjust the
transport header offset.

Dereferencing icmp6_hdr(skb) can therefore access out-of-bounds memory.

Fetch the icmp6hdr directly after ipv6hdr following pskb_network_may_pull(),
and reload ipv6hdr in case pskb_may_pull() reallocated skb->head.
Also remove the unused bond argument from alb_determine_nd().

8ccc9bf9af bonding: initialize err for empty target lists
Empty NLA_NESTED attributes are valid, and bonding uses them to clear
the ARP and NS target lists. When either target attribute is empty,
nla_for_each_nested() does not execute, so err retains an uninitialized
value before it is tested. The request can consequently return an
unpredictable error after clearing the targets.

Initialize err to zero so an empty target list completes successfully.
Non-empty lists still propagate errors from __bond_opt_set() unchanged.

This issue was found by a static analysis checker and confirmed by manual
source review.

683c6ba6e5 bonding: alb: re-check primary_is_promisc under RTNL in bond_alb_monitor
bond_alb_monitor() reads primary_is_promisc under RCU, then drops RCU and
takes RTNL via rtnl_trylock() before undoing the promiscuity it set on the
active slave. In that window the active slave can change under RTNL
(RTM_DELLINK -> __bond_release_one() -> bond_alb_handle_active_change()),
which already drops the promiscuity and clears primary_is_promisc. The
monitor still acts on the stale decision: if the slave was removed with no
failover, curr_active_slave is now NULL and the deref faults; if it failed
over, the stale dev_set_promiscuity(-1) underflows the new slave's
promiscuity counter and pins it in IFF_PROMISC.

807afc7544 bonding: 3ad: fix mux port state on oper down
When the bonding interface has carrier down due to the absence of
usable slaves and a slave transitions from down to up, the bonding
interface briefly goes carrier up, then down again, and finally up
once LACP negotiates collecting and distributing on the port.

When lacp_strict mode is on, the interface should not transition to
carrier up until LACP negotiation is complete.

This happens because the actor and partner port states remain in
Collecting_Distributing when the port goes down. When the port
comes back up, it temporarily remains in this state until LACP
renegotiation occurs.

Previously this was mostly cosmetic, but since the bonding carrier
state may depend on the LACP negotiation state, it causes the
interface to flap.

According to IEEE 802.3ad-2000 and IEEE 802.1ax-2014, Collecting and
Distributing should be reset when a port goes down:
- In the Receive state machine, port_enabled == FALSE causes a
  transition to the PORT_DISABLED state, which is expected to clear
  Partner_Oper_Port_State.Synchronization.
- In the Mux state machine, Partner_Oper_Port_State.Synchronization ==
  FALSE causes a transition to the ATTACHED state, which disables
  Collecting and Distributing.

However, Partner_Oper_Port_State.Synchronization is not cleared in the
PORT_DISABLED state.

Clear Partner_Oper_Port_State.Synchronization in the Receive
PORT_DISABLED state.

32b0b89533 bonding: 3ad: add lacp_strict configuration knob
When an 802.3ad (LACP) bonding interface has no slaves in the
collecting/distributing state, the bonding master still reports
carrier as up as long as at least 'min_links' slaves have carrier.

In this situation, only one slave is effectively used for TX/RX,
while traffic received on other slaves is dropped. Upper-layer
daemons therefore consider the interface operational, even though
traffic may be blackholed if the lack of LACP negotiation means
the partner is not ready to deal with traffic.

Introduce a configuration knob to control this behavior. It allows
the bonding master to assert carrier only when at least 'min_links'
slaves are in Collecting_Distributing state.

The default mode preserves the existing behavior. This patch only
introduces the knob; its behavior is implemented in the subsequent
commit.

107b097790 net: bonding: don't recurse on the slave's netdev ops lock
bond_update_speed_duplex() calls __ethtool_get_link_ksettings() on

would either deadlock or run unprotected depending on the path.

Make the helper expect the slave's ops lock held and switch to
netif_get_link_ksettings(). Wrap the three call sites that don't
already hold it:

  * bond_enslave() (rtnl held; core drops the lower's ops lock
    around ->ndo_add_slave).
  * bond_miimon_commit() (rtnl_trylock'd from the mii workqueue).
  * bond_ethtool_get_link_ksettings() (rtnl held via ethtool layer,
    bond device itself is not ops locked).

The call site which does already hold the ops lock is
bond_slave_netdev_event() via NETDEV_UP / NETDEV_CHANGE notifiers,
so it stays as-is.

a764b0e831 net: bonding: fix NULL pointer dereference in bond_do_ioctl()
In bond_do_ioctl(), slave_dev is obtained via __dev_get_by_name() which
can return NULL if the requested interface name does not exist. However,
the subsequent slave_dbg() call is placed before the NULL check:

    slave_dev = __dev_get_by_name(net, ifr->ifr_slave);
    slave_dbg(bond_dev, slave_dev, "slave_dev=%p:\n", slave_dev); //here
    if (!slave_dev)
        return -ENODEV;

The slave_dbg() macro expands to netdev_dbg(bond_dev, "(slave %s): " fmt,
(slave_dev)->name, ...) which unconditionally dereferences slave_dev->name
before the NULL check is performed. This results in a NULL pointer
dereference kernel oops when a user calls bonding ioctl (e.g.
SIOCBONDENSLAVE, SIOCBONDRELEASE, etc.) with a non-existent slave
interface name.

This is reachable from userspace via the bonding ioctl interface with
CAP_NET_ADMIN capability, making it a potential local denial-of-service
vector.

Fix by moving the slave_dbg() call after the NULL check.

8ba68464e4 bonding: refuse to enslave CAN devices
syzbot reported a kernel paging request crash in
can_rx_unregister() inside net/can/af_can.c. The crash occurs
because a virtual CAN device (vxcan) is being enslaved to a
bonding master.

During the enslavement process, the bonding driver mutates
and modifies the network device states to fit an Ethernet-like
aggregation model. However, CAN devices operate on a completely
different Layer 2 architecture, relying on the CAN mid-layer
private data structure (can_ml_priv) instead of standard
Ethernet structures. Since bonding does not initialize or
maintain these CAN structures, subsequent operations on the
half-enslaved interface (such as closing associated sockets
via isotp_release) lead to a null-pointer dereference when
accessing the CAN receiver lists.

Bonding CAN interfaces is architecturally invalid as CAN lacks
MAC addresses, ARP capabilities, and standard Ethernet
link-layer mechanisms. While generic loopback devices are
blocked globally in net/core/dev.c, virtual CAN devices
bypass this check because they do not carry the IFF_LOOPBACK
flag, despite acting as local software-loopbacks.

Fix this by explicitly blocking network devices of type
ARPHRD_CAN from being enslaved at the very beginning of
bond_enslave(). This prevents illegal state mutations,
eliminates the resulting KASAN crashes, and avoids potential
memory leaks from incomplete socket cleanups.

As the CAN support has been added a long time after bonding
the Fixes-tag points to the introduction of ARPHRD_CAN that
would have needed a specific handling in bonding_main.c.

c4f050ce06 bonding: 3ad: implement proper RCU rules for port->aggregator
syzbot found a data-race in bond_3ad_get_active_agg_info /
bond_3ad_state_machine_handler [1] which hints at lack of proper
RCU implementation.

Add __rcu qualifier to port->aggregator, and add proper RCU API.

91a4855d6c Networking changes for 7.1.
Core & protocols
 ----------------

  - Support HW queue leasing, allowing containers to be granted access
    to HW queues for zero-copy operations and AF_XDP.

  - Number of code moves to help the compiler with inlining.
    Avoid output arguments for returning drop reason where possible.

  - Rework drop handling within qdiscs to include more metadata
    about the reason and dropping qdisc in the tracepoints.

  - Remove the rtnl_lock use from IP Multicast Routing.

  - Pack size information into the Rx Flow Steering table pointer
    itself. This allows making the table itself a flat array of u32s,
    thus making the table allocation size a power of two.

  - Report TCP delayed ack timer information via socket diag.

  - Add ip_local_port_step_width sysctl to allow distributing the randomly
    selected ports more evenly throughout the allowed space.

  - Add support for per-route tunsrc in IPv6 segment routing.

  - Start work of switching sockopt handling to iov_iter.

  - Improve dynamic recvbuf sizing in MPTCP, limit burstiness and avoid
    buffer size drifting up.

  - Support MSG_EOR in MPTCP.

  - Add stp_mode attribute to the bridge driver for STP mode selection.
    This addresses concerns about call_usermodehelper() usage.

  - Remove UDP-Lite support (as announced in 2023).

  - Remove support for building IPv6 as a module.
    Remove the now unnecessary function calling indirection.

 Cross-tree stuff
 ----------------

  - Move Michael MIC code from generic crypto into wireless,
    it's considered insecure but some WiFi networks still need it.

 Netfilter
 ---------

  - Switch nft_fib_ipv6 module to no longer need temporary dst_entry
    object allocations by using fib6_lookup() + RCU.
    Florian W reports this gets us ~13% higher packet rate.

  - Convert IPVS's global __ip_vs_mutex to per-net service_mutex and
    switch the service tables to be per-net. Convert some code that
    walks the service lists to use RCU instead of the service_mutex.

  - Add more opinionated input validation to lower security exposure.

  - Make IPVS hash tables to be per-netns and resizable.

 Wireless
 --------

  - Finished assoc frame encryption/EPPKE/802.1X-over-auth.

  - Radar detection improvements.

  - Add 6 GHz incumbent signal detection APIs.

  - Multi-link support for FILS, probe response templates and
    client probing.

  - New APIs and mac80211 support for NAN (Neighbor Aware Networking,
    aka Wi-Fi Aware) so less work must be in firmware.

 Driver API
 ----------

  - Add numerical ID for devlink instances (to avoid having to create
    fake bus/device pairs just to have an ID). Support shared devlink
    instances which span multiple PFs.

  - Add standard counters for reporting pause storm events
    (implement in mlx5 and fbnic).

  - Add configuration API for completion writeback buffering
    (implement in mana).

  - Support driver-initiated change of RSS context sizes.

  - Support DPLL monitoring input frequency (implement in zl3073x).

  - Support per-port resources in devlink (implement in mlx5).

 Misc
 ----

  - Expand the YAML spec for Netfilter.

Merge tag 'vfs-7.0-rc8.fixes' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs

Pull vfs fixes from Christian Brauner:
 "The kernfs rbtree is keyed by (hash, ns, name) where the hash
  is seeded with the raw namespace pointer via init_name_hash(ns).

  The resulting hash values are exposed to userspace through
  readdir seek positions, and the pointer-based ordering in
  kernfs_name_compare() is observable through entry order.

  Switch from raw pointers to ns_common::ns_id for both hashing
  and comparison.

  A preparatory commit first replaces all const void * namespace
  parameters with const struct ns_common * throughout kernfs, sysfs,
  and kobject so the code can access ns->ns_id. Also compare the
  ns_id when hashes match in the rbtree to handle crafted collisions.

  Also fix eventpoll RCU grace period issue and a cachefiles refcount
  problem"

e3b2cf6e5d kernfs: pass struct ns_common instead of const void * for namespace tags
kernfs has historically used const void * to pass around namespace tags
used for directory-level namespace filtering. The only current user of
this is sysfs network namespace tagging where struct net pointers are
cast to void *.

Replace all const void * namespace parameters with const struct
ns_common * throughout the kernfs, sysfs, and kobject namespace layers.
This includes the kobj_ns_type_operations callbacks, kobject_namespace(),
and all sysfs/kernfs APIs that accept or return namespace tags.

Passing struct ns_common is needed because various codepaths require
access to the underlying namespace. A struct ns_common can always be
converted back to the concrete namespace type (e.g., struct net) via
container_of() or to_ns_common() in the reverse direction.

This is a preparatory change for switching to ns_id-based directory
iteration to prevent a KASLR pointer leak through the current use of
raw namespace pointers as hash seeds and comparison keys.

2884bf72fb net: bonding: fix use-after-free in bond_xmit_broadcast()
bond_xmit_broadcast() reuses the original skb for the last slave
(determined by bond_is_last_slave()) and clones it for others.
Concurrent slave enslave/release can mutate the slave list during
RCU-protected iteration, changing which slave is "last" mid-loop.
This causes the original skb to be double-consumed (double-freed).

Replace the racy bond_is_last_slave() check with a simple index
comparison (i + 1 == slaves_count) against the pre-snapshot slave
count taken via READ_ONCE() before the loop. This preserves the
zero-copy optimization for the last slave while making the "last"
determination stable against concurrent list mutations.

The UAF can trigger the following crash:

79cfb2d1f2 bonding: remove bonding_priv.h
bonding_priv.h only defined DRV_NAME and DRV_DESCRIPTION, but caused
unnecessary recompilation: it included <generated/utsrelease.h> to
define bond_version, which is used solely in bond_procfs.c. With
CONFIG_LOCALVERSION_AUTO=y, utsrelease.h is regenerated on every git
commit, so any git operation triggered recompilation of bond_main.c
which also included bonding_priv.h.

Remove the header entirely, as suggested by Jakub, given the macros on
this file can be integrated into the C files directly.

605b52497b net: bonding: fix NULL deref in bond_debug_rlb_hash_show
rlb_clear_slave intentionally keeps RLB hash-table entries on
the rx_hashtbl_used_head list with slave set to NULL when no
replacement slave is available. However, bond_debug_rlb_hash_show
visites client_info->slave without checking if it's NULL.

Other used-list iterators in bond_alb.c already handle this NULL-slave
state safely:

- rlb_update_client returns early on !client_info->slave
- rlb_req_update_slave_clients, rlb_clear_slave, and rlb_rebalance
compare slave values before visiting
- lb_req_update_subnet_clients continues if slave is NULL

When a non-Ethernet device (e.g. GRE tunnel) is enslaved to a bond,
bond_setup_by_slave() directly copies the slave's header_ops to the
bond device:

    bond_dev->header_ops = slave_dev->header_ops;

This causes a type confusion when dev_hard_header() is later called
on the bond device. Functions like ipgre_header(), ip6gre_header(),all use
netdev_priv(dev) to access their device-specific private data. When
called with the bond device, netdev_priv() returns the bond's private
data (struct bonding) instead of the expected type (e.g. struct
ip_tunnel), leading to garbage values being read and kernel crashes.

Fix this by introducing bond_header_ops with wrapper functions that
delegate to the active slave's header_ops using the slave's own
device. This ensures netdev_priv() in the slave's header functions
always receives the correct device.

The fix is placed in the bonding driver rather than individual device
drivers, as the root cause is bond blindly inheriting header_ops from
the slave without considering that these callbacks expect a specific
netdev_priv() layout.

The type confusion can be observed by adding a printk in
ipgre_header() and running the following commands:

    ip link add dummy0 type dummy
    ip addr add 10.0.0.1/24 dev dummy0
    ip link set dummy0 up
    ip link add gre1 type gre local 10.0.0.1
    ip link add bond1 type bond mode active-backup
    ip link set gre1 master bond1
    ip link set gre1 up
    ip link set bond1 up
    ip addr add fe80::1/64 dev bond1

3348be7978 bonding: handle BOND_LINK_FAIL, BOND_LINK_BACK as valid link states
Before the fixed commit, we check slave->new_link during commit
state, which values are only BOND_LINK_{NOCHANGE, UP, DOWN}. After
the commit, we start using slave->link_new_state, which state also could
be BOND_LINK_{FAIL, BACK}.

For example, when we set updelay/downdelay, after a failover,
the slave->link_new_state could be set to BOND_LINK_{FAIL, BACK} in
bond_miimon_inspect(). And later in bond_miimon_commit(), it will treat
it as invalid and print an error, which would cause confusion for users.

[ 106.440254] bond0: (slave veth2): link status down for interface, disabling it in 200 ms
[  106.440265] bond0: (slave veth2): invalid new link 1 on slave

45fc134bcf bonding: do not set usable_slaves for broadcast mode
After commit e0caeb24f5 ("net: bonding: update the slave array for broadcast mode"),
broadcast mode will also set all_slaves and usable_slaves during
bond_enslave(). But if we also set updelay, during enslave, the
slave init state will be BOND_LINK_BACK. And later
bond_update_slave_arr() will alloc usable_slaves but add nothing.
This will cause bond_miimon_inspect() to have ignore_updelay
always true. So the updelay will be always ignored. e.g.

[ 6.498368] bond0: (slave veth2): link status definitely down, disabling slave
[ 7.536371] bond0: (slave veth2): link status up, enabling it in 0 ms
[ 7.536402] bond0: (slave veth2): link status definitely up, 10000 Mbps full duplex

To fix it, we can either always call bond_update_slave_arr() on every
place when link changes. Or, let's just not set usable_slaves for
broadcast mode.

479d589b40 bpf/bonding: reject vlan+srcmac xmit_hash_policy change when XDP is loaded
bond_option_mode_set() already rejects mode changes that would make a
loaded XDP program incompatible via bond_xdp_check(). However,
bond_option_xmit_hash_policy_set() has no such guard.

For 802.3ad and balance-xor modes, bond_xdp_check() returns false when
xmit_hash_policy is vlan+srcmac, because the 802.1q payload is usually
absent due to hardware offload. This means a user can:

1. Attach a native XDP program to a bond in 802.3ad/balance-xor mode
   with a compatible xmit_hash_policy (e.g. layer2+3).
2. Change xmit_hash_policy to vlan+srcmac while XDP remains loaded.

This leaves bond->xdp_prog set but bond_xdp_check() now returning false
for the same device. When the bond is later destroyed, dev_xdp_uninstall()
calls bond_xdp_set(dev, NULL, NULL) to remove the program, which hits
the bond_xdp_check() guard and returns -EOPNOTSUPP, triggering:

WARN_ON(dev_xdp_install(dev, mode, bpf_op, NULL, 0, NULL))

Fix this by rejecting xmit_hash_policy changes to vlan+srcmac when an
XDP program is loaded on a bond in 802.3ad or balance-xor mode.

commit 39a0876d59 ("net, bonding: Disallow vlan+srcmac with XDP")
introduced bond_xdp_check() which returns false for 802.3ad/balance-xor
modes when xmit_hash_policy is vlan+srcmac. The check was wired into
bond_xdp_set() to reject XDP attachment with an incompatible policy, but
the symmetric path -- preventing xmit_hash_policy from being changed to an
incompatible value after XDP is already loaded -- was left unguarded in
bond_option_xmit_hash_policy_set().

Note:
commit 094ee6017e ("bonding: check xdp prog when set bond mode")
later added a similar guard to bond_option_mode_set(), but
bond_option_xmit_hash_policy_set() remained unprotected.

32a92f8c89 Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL arguments
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split
over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the
resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next
line.

Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for
me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the
middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial.

So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the
syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed'
scripts.

The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want
whitespace cleanup anyway.

323bbfcf1e Convert 'alloc_flex' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much
smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex()
interface.

As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute
force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather
than 'objs*'.

bf4afc53b7 Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

69050f8d6d treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

e6834a4c47 bonding: alb: fix UAF in rlb_arp_recv during bond up/down
The ALB RX path may access rx_hashtbl concurrently with bond
teardown. During rapid bond up/down cycles, rlb_deinitialize()
frees rx_hashtbl while RX handlers are still running, leading
to a null pointer dereference detected by KASAN.

However, the root cause is that rlb_arp_recv() can still be accessed
after setting recv_probe to NULL, which is actually a use-after-free
(UAF) issue. That is the reason for using the referenced commit in the

The issue is reproducible by repeatedly running
ip link set bond0 up/down while receiving ARP messages, where
rlb_arp_recv() can race with rlb_deinitialize() and dereference
a freed rx_hashtbl entry.

Fix this by setting recv_probe to NULL and then calling
synchronize_net() to wait for any concurrent RX processing to finish.
This ensures that no RX handler can access rx_hashtbl after it is freed
in bond_alb_deinitialize().
