4329010ad9 xdrgen: Address some checkpatch whitespace complaints
This is a roll-up of three template fixes that eliminate noise from
checkpatch output so that it's easier to spot non-trivial problems.

To follow conventional kernel C style, when a union declaration is
marked with "pragma public", there should be a blank line between
the emitted "union xxx { ... };" and the decoder and encoder
function declarations.

9654a0388a xdrgen: Generate "if" instead of "switch" for boolean union enumerators
Eliminate this warning in code generated by xdrgen:

fs/nfsd/nfs3xdr_gen.c:220:2: warning: switch condition has boolean value [-Wswitch-bool]
  220 |         switch (ptr->attributes_follow) {
      |         ^       ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

No more -Wswitch-bool warnings when compiling with W=1.

The generated code is functionally equivalent but somewhat more
idiomatic.

87a6e3b6c4 xdrgen: improve error reporting for invalid void declarations
RFC 4506 defines void as a zero-length type that may appear only as
union arms or as program argument/result types. It cannot be declared
with an identifier, so constructs like "typedef void temp;" are not
valid XDR.

Previously, xdrgen raised a NotImplementedError when it encountered a
void declaration in a typedef. Which was misleading, as the problem is an
invalid RPC specification rather than missing functionality in xdrgen.

This patch replaces the NotImplementedError for _XdrVoid in typedef
handling with a clearer ValueError that specifies incorrect use of void
in the XDR input, making it clear that the issue lies in the RPC
specification being parsed.

If grep.lineNumber is enabled in .gitconfig,

ynl-regen.sh fails with the following error:

69cb6ca52d tools/net/ynl: suppress jobserver warning in ynltool version detection
When building ynltool with parallel make (-jN), a warning is emitted:

  make[1]: warning: jobserver unavailable: using -j1.
  Add '+' to parent make rule.

The warning trips up local runs of NIPA's ingest_mdir.py, which
correctly fails on make warnings.

This occurs because SRC_VERSION uses $(shell make ...) to make
kernelversion. The $(shell) function inherits make's MAKEFLAGS env var
which specifies "--jobserver-auth=R,W" pointing to file descriptors that
the invoked make sub-shell does not have access to.

Observed with:

$ make --version | head -1
GNU Make 4.3

Instead of suppressing MAKEFLAGS and foregoing all future MAKEFLAGS
(some of which may be desirable, such as variable overrides) or
introducing a new make target, we instead just ignore the warning by
piping stderr to /dev/null. If 'make kernelversion' fails, the ' || echo
"unknown"' phrase will catch the failure.

Before:
	NIPA ingest_mdir.py:

	ynl
	 Full series FAIL   (1)
	   Generated files up to date; build has 1 warnings/errors; no diff in
	   generated;

After:
	NIPA ingest_mdir.py:

output more readable by combining the reply information, from:

6ccc421b14 tools: ynl: cli: extract the event/notify handling in --list-attrs
Event and notify handling is quite different from do / dump
handling. Forcing it into print_mode_attrs() doesn't really
buy us anything as events and notifications do not have requests.
Call print_attr_list() directly. Apart form subjective code
clarity this also removes the word "reply" from the output:

101a7d57d5 tools: ynl: cli: wrap the doc text if it's long
We already use textwrap when printing "doc" section about an attribute,
but only to indent the text. Switch to using fill() to split and indent
all the lines. While at it indent the text by 2 more spaces, so that it
doesn't align with the name of the attribute.

Before (I'm drawing a "box" at ~60 cols here, in an attempt for clarity):

790792ebc9 tools: ynl: don't install tests
make's install target is meant for installing the production
artifacts, AFAIU. Don't install test_ynl_cli and test_ynl_ethtool
from under the main YNL install target. The install target
under tests/ is retained in case someone wants the tests
to be installed.

Add a test framework for YAML Netlink (YNL) tools, covering both CLI and
ethtool functionality. The framework includes:

1) cli: family listing, netdev, ethtool, rt-* families, and nlctrl
   operations
2) ethtool: device info, statistics, ring/coalesce/pause parameters, and
   feature gettings

The current YNL syntax is a bit obscure, and end users may not always know
how to use it. This test framework provides usage examples and also serves
as a regression test to catch potential breakages caused by future changes.

This patch adds a new CLI argument for overriding the default
function prefix, as used for naming the doit/dumpit functions
in the generated kernel code.

When not specified the default "$(FAMILY)-nl" is used.

This can also be specified persistently in generated files:
  /* YNL-ARG --function-prefix wg */

In the above example it causes the following changes:
  wireguard_nl_get_device_dumpit() -> wg_get_device_dumpit()
  wireguard_nl_get_device_doit()   -> wg_get_device_doit()

The variable name fn_prefix, was chosen as it relates to op_prefix
which is used to prefix the UAPI commands enum entries.

b0f8e1f1f5 xdrgen: handle _XdrString in union encoder/decoder
Running xdrgen on xdrgen/tests/test.x fails when
generating encoder or decoder functions for union
members of type _XdrString. It was because _XdrString
does not have a spec attribute like _XdrBasic,
leading to AttributeError.

This patch updates emit_union_case_spec_definition
and emit_union_case_spec_decoder/encoder to handle
_XdrString by assigning type_name = "char *" and
avoiding referencing to spec.

Testing: Fixed xdrgen tool was run on originally failing
test file (tools/net/sunrpc/xdrgen/tests/test.x) and now
completes without AttributeError. Modified xdrgen tool was
also run against nfs4_1.x (Documentation/sunrpc/xdr/nfs4_1.x).
The output header file matches with nfs4_1.h
(include/linux/sunrpc/xdrgen/nfs4_1.h).
This validates the patch for all XDR input files currently
within the kernel.

is ignored by the kernel.

b02d229013 tools: ynltool: create skeleton for the C command
Based on past discussions it seems like integration of YNL into
iproute2 is unlikely. YNL itself is not great as a C library,
since it has no backward compat (we routinely change types).

Most of the operations can be performed with the generic Python
CLI directly. There is, however, a handful of operations where
summarization of kernel output is very useful (mostly related
to stats: page-pool, qstat).

Create a command (inspired by bpftool, I think it stood the test
of time reasonably well) to be able to plug the subcommands into.

In early days of YNL development dumping the NlMsg on errors
was quite useful, as the library itself could have been buggy.
These days increasingly the NlMsg is just taking up screen space
and means nothing to a typical user. Try to format the errors
more in line with how YNL C formats its errors strings.

65f9c4c588 tools: ynl: fix string attribute length to include null terminator
The ynl_attr_put_str() function was not including the null terminator
in the attribute length calculation. This caused kernel to reject
CTRL_CMD_GETFAMILY requests with EINVAL:
"Attribute failed policy validation".

For a 4-character family name like "dpll":
- Sent: nla_len=8 (4 byte header + 4 byte string without null)
- Expected: nla_len=9 (4 byte header + 5 byte string with null)

The bug was introduced in commit 15d2540e0d ("tools: ynl: check for
overflow of constructed messages") when refactoring from stpcpy() to
strlen(). The original code correctly included the null terminator:

  attr->nla_len = NLA_HDRLEN + NLA_ALIGN(end -
                                (char *)ynl_attr_data(attr));

Since stpcpy() returns a pointer past the null terminator, the length
included it. The refactored version using strlen() omitted the +1.

The fix also removes NLA_ALIGN() from nla_len calculation, since
nla_len should contain actual attribute length, not aligned length.
Alignment is only for calculating next attribute position. This makes
the code consistent with ynl_attr_put().

CTRL_ATTR_FAMILY_NAME uses NLA_NUL_STRING policy which requires
null terminator. Kernel validates with memchr() and rejects if not
found.

c97b737ef8 sunrpc: Change ret code of xdr_stream_decode_opaque_fixed
Since the opaque is fixed in size, the caller already knows how many
bytes were decoded, on success. Thus, xdr_stream_decode_opaque_fixed()
doesn't need to return that value. And, xdr_stream_decode_u32 and _u64
both return zero on success.

This patch simplifies the caller's error checking to avoid potential
integer promotion issues.

00c94ca2b9 psp: base PSP device support
Add a netlink family for PSP and allow drivers to register support.

The "PSP device" is its own object. This allows us to perform more
flexible reference counting / lifetime control than if PSP information
was part of net_device. In the future we should also be able
to "delegate" PSP access to software devices, such as *vlan, veth
or netkit more easily.

type: uint + multi-attr: True. Auto scalars use 64b types,
we need to convert them explicitly when rendering the types.

1b255e1bea tools: ynl: add ipv4-or-v6 display hint
The attribute WGALLOWEDIP_A_IPADDR can contain either an IPv4
or an IPv6 address depending on WGALLOWEDIP_A_FAMILY, however
in practice it is enough to look at the attribute length.

This patch implements an ipv4-or-v6 display hint, that can
deal with this kind of attribute.

It only implements this display hint for genetlink-legacy, it
can be added to other protocol variants if needed, but we don't
want to encourage it's use.

In nested arrays don't require that the intermediate attribute
type should be a valid attribute type, it might just be zero
or an incrementing index, it is often not even used.

See include/net/netlink.h about NLA_NESTED_ARRAY:
> The difference to NLA_NESTED is the structure:
> NLA_NESTED has the nested attributes directly inside
> while an array has the nested attributes at another
> level down and the attribute types directly in the
> nesting don't matter.

Previous the check required that the nested type was valid
in the parent attribute set, which in this case resolves to
WGDEVICE_A_UNSPEC, which is YNL_PT_REJECT, and it took the
early exit and returned YNL_PARSE_CB_ERROR.

This patch renames the old nl_attr_validate() to
__nl_attr_validate(), and creates a new inline function
nl_attr_validate() to mimic the old one.

The new __nl_attr_validate() takes the attribute type as an
argument, so we can use it to validate attributes of a
nested attribute, in the context of the parents attribute
type, which in the above case is generated as:

__nl_attr_validate() only checks if the attribute length
is plausible for a given attribute type, so the .nest in
the above example is not used.

As the new inline function needs to be defined after
ynl_attr_type(), then the definitions are moved down,
so we avoid a forward declaration of ynl_attr_type().

Some other examples are NL80211_BAND_ATTR_FREQS (nest) and
NL80211_ATTR_SUPPORTED_COMMANDS (u32) both in nl80211-user.c

In the generated attribute parsing code, avoid repetitively
defining the same variables over and over again, local to
the conditional block for each attribute.

This patch consolidates the definitions of local variables
for attribute parsing, so that they are defined at the
function level, and re-used across attributes, thus making
the generated code read more natural.

If attributes defines identical local_vars, then they will
be deduplicated, attributes are assumed to only use their
local variables transiently.

The example below shows how `len` was defined repeatedly in
tools/net/ynl/generated/nl80211-user.c:

Refactor the generation of local variables needed when building
requests, by moving the logic from put_req_nested() into a new
helper put_local_vars(), and use the helper before .attr_put() is
called, thus generating the local variables assumed by .attr_put().

Previously only put_req_nested() generated the variables assumed
by .attr_put(),  print_req() only generated the count iterator `i`,
and print_dump() neither generated `i` nor `array`.

It is clear that due to the sequential nature of code execution, when
n_ops (initially zero) is incremented, attr_ops is also assigned from
the value of "attr" (the current iterator).

But some compilers, like gcc version 12.2.0 (Debian 12.2.0-14+deb12u1)
as distributed by Debian Bookworm, seem to be not sophisticated enough
to see this, and fail to compile (warnings treated as errors):

a51126424f tools: ynl: rst: display attribute-set doc
Some attribute-set have a documentation (doc:), but it was not displayed
in the RST / HTML version. Such field can be found in ethtool, netdev,
tcp_metrics and team YAML files.

Only the 'name' and 'attributes' fields from an 'attribute-set' section
were parsed. Now the content of the 'doc' field, if available, is added
as a new paragraph before listing each attribute. This is similar to
what is done when parsing the 'operations'.

f25f39e6d2 tools: ynl_gen_rst.py: Split library from command line tool
As we'll be using the Netlink specs parser inside a Sphinx
extension, move the library part from the command line parser.

While here, change the code which generates an index file
to parse inputs from both .rst and .yaml extensions. With
that, the tool can easily be tested with:

	tools/net/ynl/pyynl/ynl_gen_rst.py -x -o Documentation/netlink/specs/foo.rst

Without needing to first generate a temp directory with the
rst files.

Currently, rt documents are referred with:

Having :doc: references with relative paths doesn't always work,
as it may have troubles when O= is used. Also that's hard to
maintain, and may break if we change the way rst files are
generated from yaml. Better to use instead a reference for
the netlink family.

So, replace them by Sphinx cross-reference tag that are
created by ynl_gen_rst.py.

8553fb7c55 tools: ynl-gen: print setters for multi-val attrs
For basic types we "flatten" setters. If a request "a" has a simple
nest "b" with value "val" we print helpers like:

 req_set_a_b(struct a *req, int val)
 {
   req->_present.a = 1;
   req->b._present.val = 1;
   req->b.val = ...
 }

This is not possible for multi-attr because they have to be allocated
dynamically by the user. Print "object level" setters so that user
preparing the object doesn't have to futz with the presence bits
and other YNL internals.

Add the ability to pass in the variable name to generated setters.
Using "req" here doesn't feel right, while the attr is part of a request
it's not the request itself, so it seems cleaner to call it "obj".

Example:

 {
	obj->_present.id = 1;
	obj->id = id;
 }

2c222dde61 tools: ynl-gen: print alloc helper for multi-val attrs
In general YNL provides allocation and free helpers for types.
For pure nested structs which are used as multi-attr (and therefore
have to be allocated dynamically) we already print a free helper
as it's needed by free of the containing struct.

Add printing of the alloc helper for consistency. The helper
takes the number of entries to allocate as an argument, e.g.:

  static inline struct netdev_queue_id *netdev_queue_id_alloc(unsigned int n)
  {
	return calloc(n, sizeof(struct netdev_queue_id));
  }
