drm/vc4: Shut down BO cache timer before teardown
The BO cache timer callback schedules time_work, and time_work can rearm
the timer through vc4_bo_cache_free_old().
vc4_bo_cache_destroy() deletes the timer and then cancels the work, which
does not break that cycle: the work being cancelled can rearm the timer,
and the timer then queues work again after teardown.
Use timer_shutdown_sync() instead, so the timer cannot be rearmed and the
cycle ends with cancel_work_sync().

drm/vc4: hvs/v3d: Fix null dereference in unbind
The hvs and v3d drivers use dev_get_drvdata(master) in their unbind functions. Since the vc4-drm gets removed before its dependent drivers (vc4_hvs/vc4_v3d) the vc4_hvs_unbind/vc4_v3d_unbind functions try to get drvdata of its master and fails with a null dereference error. Use the data pointer passed to the unbind functions directly instead of dev_get_drvdata(master). This avoids using potentially freed memory. Fixes: |

drm/vc4: Prevent shader BO mappings from becoming writable
vc4_gem_object_mmap() rejects a writable mapping of a validated shader
BO, but leaves VM_MAYWRITE set. Userspace can map the BO read-only and
then turn it writable with mprotect().
Validated shader BOs must stay read-only: the validator checks the
instructions once and the GPU trusts them afterwards. A writable
mapping lets userspace rewrite the code after validation, bypassing the
validator.
Clear VM_MAYWRITE on the read-only path so the mapping cannot be
upgraded, as i915 already does for its read-only objects.

Replace <linux/mod_devicetable.h> by more specific <linux/device-id/*.h> (c files)
Replace the #include of <linux/mod_devicetable.h> by the more specific <linux/device-id/*.h> where applicable. For most cases the include can be dropped completely, only a few drivers need one or two headers added. drm/vc4: fix krealloc() memory leak
Don't just overwrite the original pointer passed to krealloc()
with its return value without checking latter:
MEM = krealloc(MEM, SZ, GFP);
If krealloc() returns NULL, that erases the pointer
to the still allocated memory, hence leaks this memory.
Instead, use a temporary variable, check it's not NULL
and only then assign it to the original pointer:
TMP = krealloc(MEM, SZ, GFP);
if (!TMP) return;
MEM = TMP;
While on it, use krealloc_array().

drm: Rename struct drm_atomic_state to drm_atomic_commit
The KMS framework uses two slightly different definitions for the state concept. For a given object (plane, CRTC, encoder, etc., so drm_$OBJECT_state), the state is the entire state of that object. However, at the device level, drm_atomic_state refers to a state update for a limited number of objects. Thus, drm_atomic_state isn't the entire device state, but only the full state of some objects in that device. This has been an endless source of confusion and thus bugs. We can rename the drm_atomic_state structure to drm_atomic_commit to make it less confusing. This patch was created using: rg -l drm_atomic_state | \ xargs sed -i 's/drm_atomic_state/drm_atomic_commit/g; s/drm_atomic_commit_helper/drm_atomic_state_helper/g' mv drivers/gpu/drm/tests/drm_atomic_state_test.c drivers/gpu/drm/tests/drm_atomic_commit_test.c Acked-by: Simona Vetter <simona.vetter@ffwll.ch> Acked-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Acked-by: Jani Nikula <jani.nikula@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Luca Ceresoli <luca.ceresoli@bootlin.com> Tested-by: Luca Ceresoli <luca.ceresoli@bootlin.com> Signed-off-by: Maxime Ripard <mripard@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie <airlied@redhat.com> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/20260427-drm-drm-atomic-update-v4-1-c0e713bfdf25@kernel.org |

Switch from request_irq()/free_irq() to the device-managed alternative devm_request_irq(), letting device-managed resource cleanup handle IRQ teardown automatically. drm/vc4: Protect madv read in vc4_gem_object_mmap() with madv_lock
The mmap callback reads bo->madv without holding madv_lock, racing with
concurrent DRM_IOCTL_VC4_GEM_MADVISE calls that modify the field under
the same lock. Add the missing locking to prevent the data race.

drm/vc4: Fix a memory leak in hang state error path
When vc4_save_hang_state() encounters an early return condition, it
returns without freeing the previously allocated `kernel_state`,

drm/vc4: Fix memory leak of BO array in hang state

drm/vc4: Release runtime PM reference after binding V3D
The vc4_v3d_bind() function acquires a runtime PM reference via
pm_runtime_resume_and_get() to access V3D registers during setup.
However, this reference is never released after a successful bind.
This prevents the device from ever runtime suspending, since the
reference count never reaches zero.
Release the runtime PM reference by adding pm_runtime_put_autosuspend()
after autosuspend is configured, allowing the device to runtime suspend
after the delay.

drm/display: hdmi: Use drm_output_color_format instead of hdmi_colorspace
The hdmi_colorspace enum was defined to represent the colorspace value of the HDMI infoframes. It was later used by some HDMI drivers to express the output format they should be setting up. During the introduction of the HDMI helpers, it then was used to represent it in the drm_connector_hdmi_state structure. However, it's always been somewhat redundant with the DRM_COLOR_FORMAT_* defines, and now with the drm_output_color_format enum. Let's consolidate around drm_output_color_format in drm_connector_hdmi_state to facilitate the current effort to provide a global output format selection mechanism. Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL arguments
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next line. Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial. So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed' scripts. The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want whitespace cleanup anyway. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> |

more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org> |

drm/vc4: hdmi: replace use of system_wq with system_percpu_wq
Currently if a user enqueues a work item using schedule_delayed_work() the used wq is "system_wq" (per-cpu wq) while queue_delayed_work() use WORK_CPU_UNBOUND (used when a cpu is not specified). The same applies to schedule_work() that is using system_wq and queue_work(), that makes use again of WORK_CPU_UNBOUND. This lack of consistency cannot be addressed without refactoring the API. This patch continues the effort to refactor worqueue APIs, which has begun with the change introducing new workqueues and a new alloc_workqueue flag: commit |

drm/vc4: Switch private_obj initialization to atomic_create_state
The vc4 driver relies on a drm_private_obj, that is initialized by allocating and initializing a state, and then passing it to drm_private_obj_init. Since we're gradually moving away from that pattern to the more established one relying on a atomic_create_state implementation, let's migrate this instance to the new pattern. drm/vc4: Replace IDR with XArray for perfmon tracking
The IDR interface is deprecated and the XArray API is the recommended replacement. Replace the per-file IDR used to track perfmons with an XArray. This allows us to remove the external mutex that protects the IDR. While at it, introduce the vc4_perfmon_delete() helper to consolidate the perfmon cleanup logic used by both vc4_perfmon_close_file() and vc4_perfmon_destroy_ioctl(). Also, remove the redundant assignment of vc4file->dev to itself in vc4_perfmon_open_file(). drm/display: hdmi_state_helper: split InfoFrame functions per type
Havign a single set of InfoFrame callbacks doesn't provide enough information to the DRM framework about the InfoFrame types that are actually supported. Also it's not really future-proof: it provides a way to program only a single Vendor-Specific frame, however we might need to support multiple VSIs at the same time (e.g. HDMI vs HDMI Forum VSIs). Provide separate sets of callbacks, one per the InfoFrame type. drm: Discard pm_runtime_put() return value
Multiple DRM drivers use the pm_runtime_put() return value for printing debug or even error messages and all of those messages are at least somewhat misleading. Returning an error code from pm_runtime_put() merely means that it has not queued up a work item to check whether or not the device can be suspended and there are many perfectly valid situations in which that can happen, like after writing "on" to the devices' runtime PM "control" attribute in sysfs for one example. It also happens when the kernel has been configured with CONFIG_PM unset. For this reason, modify all of those drivers to simply discard the pm_runtime_put() return value which is what they should be doing. This will facilitate a planned change of the pm_runtime_put() return type to void in the future. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. drm/vc4: Switch to drm_atomic_get_new_crtc_state()
The vc4 atomic_check implementation uses the deprecated drm_atomic_get_existing_crtc_state() helper. This hook is called as part of the global atomic_check, thus before the states are swapped. The existing state thus points to the new state, and we can use drm_atomic_get_new_crtc_state() instead. drm/vc4: fix infinite EPROBE_DEFER loop
`vc4_hdmi_audio_init` calls `devm_snd_dmaengine_pcm_register` which may
return EPROBE_DEFER. Calling `drm_connector_hdmi_audio_init` adds a
child device. The driver model docs[1] state that adding a child device
prior to returning EPROBE_DEFER may result in an infinite loop.

drm/vc4: convert to devm_drm_bridge_alloc() API
This is the new API for allocating DRM bridges. This driver already implements refcounting of the struct vc4_dsi, which embeds struct drm_bridge. Now this is a duplicate of the refcounting implemented by the DRM bridge core, so convert the vc4_dsi_get/put() calls into drm_bridge_get/put() calls and get rid of the driver-specific refcounting implementation. drm/vc4: tests: Retry pv-muxing tests when EDEADLK
Some functions used by the HVS->PV muxing tests can return with EDEADLK,
meaning the entire sequence should be restarted. It's not a fatal error
and we should treat it as a recoverable error, and recover, instead of
failing the test like we currently do.

drm/vc4: tests: Stop allocating the state in test init
The vc4-pv-muxing-combinations and vc5-pv-muxing-combinations test
suites use a common test init function which, in part, allocates the
drm atomic state the test will use.
That allocation relies on drm_kunit_helper_atomic_state_alloc(), and
thus requires a struct drm_modeset_acquire_ctx. This context will then
be stored in the allocated state->acquire_ctx field.
However, the context is local to the test init function, and is cleared
as soon as drm_kunit_helper_atomic_state_alloc() is done. We thus end up
with an dangling pointer to a cleared context in state->acquire_ctx for
our test to consumes.
We should really allocate the context and the state in the test
functions, so we can also control when we're done with it.

drm/vc4: tests: Document output handling functions
vc4_mock_atomic_add_output() and vc4_mock_atomic_del_output() are public but aren't documented. Let's provide the documentation. In particular, special care should be taken to deal with EDEADLK. drm/vc4: tests: Use return instead of assert
The vc4_mock_atomic_add_output() and vc4_mock_atomic_del_output() assert that the functions they are calling didn't fail. Since some of them can return EDEADLK, we can't properly deal with it. Since both functions are expected to return an int, and all caller check the return value, let's just properly propagate the errors when they occur. Fixes: |

drm/bridge: Add encoder parameter to drm_bridge_funcs.attach
The drm_bridge structure contains an encoder pointer that is widely used by bridge drivers. This pattern is largely documented as deprecated in other KMS entities for atomic drivers. However, one of the main use of that pointer is done in attach to just call drm_bridge_attach on the next bridge to add it to the bridge list. While this dereferences the bridge->encoder pointer, it's effectively the same encoder the bridge was being attached to. We can make it more explicit by adding the encoder the bridge is attached to to the list of attach parameters. This also removes the need to dereference bridge->encoder in most drivers.
