soc: arm code changes for 7.2
The largest addition here is the revived support for the ZTE ZX SoC platform, though this mostly documentation. The main change this time is a cleanup series from Krzysztof Kozlowski that updates the defconfig files to be more in sync with changes to the Kconfig files that moved options around or removed the completely. Networking changes for 7.2.
Core & protocols
----------------
- Work on removing rtnl_lock protection throughout the stack continues.
In this chapter:
- don't use rtnl_lock for IPv6 multicast routing configuration
- don't take rtnl_lock in ethtool for modern drivers
- prepare Qdisc dump callbacks for rtnl_lock removal
- Support dumping just ifindex + name of all interfaces, under RCU.
It's a common operation for Netlink CLI tools (when translating
names to ifindexes) and previously required full rtnl_lock.
- Support dumping qdiscs and page pools for a specific netdev. Even tho
user space wants a dump of all netdevs, most of the time, the OOO
programming model results in repeating the dump for each netdev.
Which, in absence of a cache, leads to a O(n^2) behavior.
- Flush nexthops once on multi-nexthop removal (e.g. when device goes
down), another O(n^2) -> O(n) improvement.
- Rehash locally generated traffic to a different nexthop on retransmit
timeout.
- Honor oif when choosing nexthop for locally generated IPv6 traffic.
- Convert TCP Auth Option to crypto library, and drop non-RFC algos.
- Increase subflow limits in MPTCP to 64 and endpoint limit to 256.
- Support MPTCP signaling of IPv6 address + port (ADD_ADDR). We need
to selectively skip reporting of the standard TCP Timestamp option,
because they won't fit into the header space together (12 + 30 > 40).
- Support using bridge neighbor suppression, Duplicate Address
Detection, Gratuitous ARP and unsolicited NA forwarding - in EVPN
deployments, e.g. VXLAN fabrics (IPv4 and IPv6).
- Improve link state reporting for upper netdevs (e.g. macvlan) over
tunnel devices (again, mostly for EVPN deployments).
- Support binding GENEVE tunnels to a local address.
- Speed up UDP tunnel destruction (remove one synchronize_rcu()).

- Support attaching PSP crypto offload to containers (veth, netkit).
- Add a new IPSec Netlink message XFRM_MSG_MIGRATE_STATE that allows
migrating individual IPsec SAs independently of their policies.
The existing XFRM_MSG_MIGRATE is tightly coupled to policy+SA
migration, lacks SPI for unique SA identification, and cannot express
reqid changes or migrate Transport mode selectors. The new interface
identifies the SA via SPI and mark, supports reqid changes, address
family changes, encap removal, and uses an atomic create+install
flow under x->lock to prevent SN/IV reuse during AEAD SA migration.
- Implement GRO/GSO support for PPPoE.
- Convert sockopt callbacks in a number of protocols to iov_iter.
Cross-tree stuff
----------------
- Remove support for Crypto TFM cloning (unblocked after the TCP Auth
Option rework). This feature regressed performance for all crypto API
users, since it changed crypto transformation objects into reference-
-counted objects.
- Add FCrypt-PCBC implementation to rxrpc and remove it from the global
crypto API as obsolete and insecure.

- Major rework of station bandwidth handling, fixing issues with lower

appletalk: move the protocol out of tree
AppleTalk has been removed in MacOS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), in 2009, according to Wikipedia. We recently got a burst of AI generated fixes to this protocol which nobody is reviewing. Let AppleTalk follow AX.25 and hamradio out of the Linux tree. We we will maintain the code at: github.com/linux-netdev/mod-orphan for anyone interested in playing with it. Retain the uAPI for now. No strong reason, simply because I suspect keeping it will be less controversial. crypto: sun4i-ss - Remove insecure and unused rng_alg
Remove sun4i_ss_rng, as it is insecure and unused:
- It has multiple vulnerabilities. sun4i_ss_prng_seed() is missing
locking and has a buffer overflow. sun4i_ss_prng_generate() fails to
fill the entire buffer with cryptographic random bytes, because it
rounds the destination length down and also doesn't actually wait for
the hardware to be ready before pulling bytes from it.
- No user of this code is known. It's usable only theoretically via the
"rng" algorithm type of AF_ALG. But userspace actually just uses the
actual Linux RNG (/dev/random etc) instead. And rng_algs don't
contribute entropy to the actual Linux RNG either. (This may have
been confused with hwrng, which does contribute entropy.)
The sun4i_ss_prng_seed() buffer overflow was reported by Tianchu Chen
and discovered by Atuin - Automated Vulnerability Discovery Engine
There's no point in fixing all these vulnerabilities individually when
this is unused code, so let's just remove it.

crypto: exynos-rng - Remove exynos-rng driver
This driver has no purpose. It doesn't feed into the Linux RNG, nor does it implement the hwrng interface. It is accessible only via the "rng" algorithm type of AF_ALG, which isn't used in practice. Everyone uses either the Linux RNG, or rarely /dev/hwrng. Moreover, this is a PRNG whose only source of entropy is the 160-bit seed the user passes in. So this can be used only by a user who already has a source of cryptographically secure random numbers, such as /dev/random. Which they can, and do, just use in the first place. Just remove this driver. There's no need to keep useless code around. Note that the other crypto_rng drivers in drivers/crypto/ are similarly unused and are being removed too. This commit just handles exynos-rng. crypto: pcbc - Remove support for PCBC mode
The only user of PCBC mode (Propagating Cipher Block Chaining mode) was net/rxrpc/rxkad.c, which now uses local code instead. While PCBC was an interesting cryptographic experiment, it has largely been relegated to the history books and academic exercises. It is non-parallelizable (i.e., very slow) and doesn't actually achieve the integrity properties it was apparently intended to achieve. Remove support for it from the crypto API. crypto: fcrypt - Remove support for FCrypt block cipher
Remove the insecure FCrypt block cipher from the crypto API. Its only user was net/rxrpc/, but now net/rxrpc/ implements it locally. The crypto API implementation is no longer needed. For some additional context: FCrypt was designed in 1988 and is essentially a weakened version of DES. It has the same 56-bit key size as DES, which is easily brute forced. Moreover, it's cryptographically weak and doesn't even provide the intended 56-bit security level. Its author considers it to be a mistake, as well (https://lists.openafs.org/pipermail/openafs-devel/2000-December/005320.html). But fortunately this 1980s-era homebrew block cipher was never adopted outside of net/rxrpc/. So its code can just be kept there. pinctrl: qcom: Make important drivers default (2)
The main SoC TLMM (Top-Level Multiplexer) pin controller drivers are essential for booting up SoCs and are not really optional for a given platform. Kernel should not ask users choice of drivers when that choice is obvious and known to the developers that answer should be 'yes' or 'module'. Switch all Qualcomm TLMM pin controller drivers to a default 'yes' for ARCH_QCOM. This has impact: 1. arm64 defconfig: enable PINCTRL_SM7150, PINCTRL_IPQ9650 and PINCTRL_HAWI, which were not selected before but should be, because these platforms need them for proper boot. 2. arm qcom_defconfig: no changes. 3. arm multi_v7 defconfig: enable drivers necessary to boot ARM 32-bit platforms, which are already enabled on qcom_defconfig. 4. COMPILE_TEST builds: enable by default all drivers for arm or arm64 builds, whenever ARCH_QCOM is selected. This has impact on build time and feels logical, because if one selects ARCH_QCOM then probably by default wants to build test it entirely. Kernels with COMPILE_TEST are not supposed to be used for booting. Delete some obsolete networking code
Old code like amateur radio and NFC have long been a burden to core networking developers. syzbot loves to find bugs in BKL-era code, and noobs try to fix them. If we want to have a fighting chance of surviving the LLM-pocalypse this code needs to find a dedicated owner or get deleted. We've talked about these deletions multiple times in the past and every time someone wanted the code to stay. It is never very clear to me how many of those people actually use the code vs are just nostalgic to see it go. Amateur radio did have occasional users (or so I think) but most users switched to user space implementations since its all super slow stuff. Nobody stepped up to maintain the kernel code. We were lucky enough to find someone who wants to help with NFC so we're giving that a chance. Let's try to put the rest of this code behind us. crypto: Remove michael_mic from crypto_shash API
Remove the "michael_mic" crypto_shash algorithm, since it's no longer used. Its only users were wireless drivers, which have now been converted to use the michael_mic() function instead. It makes sense that no other users ever appeared: Michael MIC is an insecure algorithm that is specific to WPA TKIP, which itself was an interim security solution to replace the broken WEP standard. - Add support for verifying ML-DSA signatures.
ML-DSA (Module-Lattice-Based Digital Signature Algorithm) is a

ARM: defconfig: turn off CONFIG_EXPERT
Since multi_v7_defconfig is meant to be the generic defconfig, many users are not going to be experts and it is counterintuitive to have CONFIG_EXPERT enabled. This change has a couple of side-effects: - CONFIG_NAMESPACES is enabled by default. watchdog: softlockup: panic when lockup duration exceeds N thresholds
The softlockup_panic sysctl is currently a binary option: panic immediately or never panic on soft lockups. Panicking on any soft lockup, regardless of duration, can be overly aggressive for brief stalls that may be caused by legitimate operations. Conversely, never panicking may allow severe system hangs to persist undetected. Extend softlockup_panic to accept an integer threshold, allowing the kernel to panic only when the normalized lockup duration exceeds N watchdog threshold periods. This provides finer-grained control to distinguish between transient delays and persistent system failures. The accepted values are: - 0: Don't panic (unchanged) - 1: Panic when duration >= 1 * threshold (20s default, original behavior) - N > 1: Panic when duration >= N * threshold (e.g., 2 = 40s, 3 = 60s.) The original behavior is preserved for values 0 and 1, maintaining full backward compatibility while allowing systems to tolerate brief lockups while still catching severe, persistent hangs. lib/crypto: arm/aes: Migrate optimized code into library
Move the ARM optimized single-block AES en/decryption code into lib/crypto/, wire it up to the AES library API, and remove the superseded "aes-arm" crypto_cipher algorithm.
