David Howells
0f5dc39714 afs: Fix tracepoint string placement with built-in AFS
[ Upstream commit 6c881ca0b3 ]

To quote Alexey[1]:

I was adding custom tracepoint to the kernel, grabbed full F34 kernel
.config, disabled modules and booted whole shebang as VM kernel.

    Then did

	perf record -a -e ...

    It crashed:

general protection fault, probably for non-canonical address 0x435f5346592e4243: 0000 [#1] SMP PTI
CPU: 1 PID: 842 Comm: cat Not tainted 5.12.6+ #26
	Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS 1.14.0-1.fc33 04/01/2014
	RIP: 0010:t_show+0x22/0xd0

    Then reproducer was narrowed to

	# cat /sys/kernel/tracing/printk_formats

Original F34 kernel with modules didn't crash.

So I started to disable options and after disabling AFS everything
    started working again.

The root cause is that AFS was placing char arrays content into a
section full of _pointers_ to strings with predictable consequences.

Non canonical address 435f5346592e4243 is "CB.YFS_" which came from
    CM_NAME macro.

    Steps to reproduce:

	CONFIG_AFS=y
	CONFIG_TRACING=y

	# cat /sys/kernel/tracing/printk_formats

Fix this by the following means:

 (1) Add enum->string translation tables in the event header with the AFS
and YFS cache/callback manager operations listed by RPC operation ID.

 (2) Modify the afs_cb_call tracepoint to print the string from the
translation table rather than using the string at the afs_call name
     pointer.

 (3) Switch translation table depending on the service we're being accessed
as (AFS or YFS) in the tracepoint print clause. Will this cause
     problems to userspace utilities?

Note that the symbolic representation of the YFS service ID isn't
available to this header, so I've put it in as a number. I'm not sure
if this is the best way to do this.

 (4) Remove the name wrangling (CM_NAME) macro and put the names directly
into the afs_call_type structs in cmservice.c.

675e504598 ANDROID: mm: add cma allocation statistics
alloc_contig_range is the core worker function for CMA allocation
so it has every information to be able to understand allocation
latency. For example, how many pages are migrated, how many time
unmap was needed to migrate pages, how many times it encountered
errors by some reasons.

This patch adds such statistics in the alloc_contig_range and
return it to user so user can use those information to analyize
latency. The cma_alloc is first user for the statistics, which
export the statistics as new trace event(i.e., cma_alloc_info).

It was really usefuli to optimize cma allocation work.

0c24ee770c BACKPORT: FROMGIT: kasan: disable freed user page poisoning with HW tags
Poisoning freed pages protects against kernel use-after-free. The
likelihood of such a bug involving kernel pages is significantly higher
than that for user pages. At the same time, poisoning freed pages can
impose a significant performance cost, which cannot always be justified
for user pages given the lower probability of finding a bug. Therefore,
disable freed user page poisoning when using HW tags. We identify
"user" pages via the flag set GFP_HIGHUSER_MOVABLE, which indicates
a strong likelihood of not being directly accessible to the kernel.

8efd19bf75 SUNRPC: Remove trace_xprt_transmit_queued
[ Upstream commit 6cf23783f7 ]

This tracepoint can crash when dereferencing snd_task because
when some transports connect, they put a cookie in that field
instead of a pointer to an rpc_task.

b7ff0885de f2fs: move ioctl interface definitions to separated file
[ Upstream commit fa4320cefb ]

Like other filesystem does, we introduce a new file f2fs.h in path of
include/uapi/linux/, and move f2fs-specified ioctl interface definitions
to that file, after then, in order to use those definitions, userspace
developer only need to include the new header file rather than
copy & paste definitions from fs/f2fs/f2fs.h.

76782b5633 FROMGIT: mm: cma: add the CMA instance name to cma trace events
There were missing places to add cma instance name. To identify each CMA
instance, let's add the name for every cma trace. This patch also changes
the existing cma_trace_alloc to cma_trace_finish since we have
cma_alloc_start[1].

4d3dd339de BACKPORT: FROMGIT: userfaultfd: add minor fault registration mode
Patch series "userfaultfd: add minor fault handling", v9.

Overview
========

This series adds a new userfaultfd feature, UFFD_FEATURE_MINOR_HUGETLBFS.
When enabled (via the UFFDIO_API ioctl), this feature means that any
hugetlbfs VMAs registered with UFFDIO_REGISTER_MODE_MISSING will *also*
get events for "minor" faults. By "minor" fault, I mean the following
situation:

Let there exist two mappings (i.e., VMAs) to the same page(s) (shared
memory). One of the mappings is registered with userfaultfd (in minor
mode), and the other is not. Via the non-UFFD mapping, the underlying
pages have already been allocated & filled with some contents. The UFFD
mapping has not yet been faulted in; when it is touched for the first
time, this results in what I'm calling a "minor" fault. As a concrete
example, when working with hugetlbfs, we have huge_pte_none(), but
find_lock_page() finds an existing page.

We also add a new ioctl to resolve such faults: UFFDIO_CONTINUE. The idea
is, userspace resolves the fault by either a) doing nothing if the
contents are already correct, or b) updating the underlying contents using
the second, non-UFFD mapping (via memcpy/memset or similar, or something
fancier like RDMA, or etc...). In either case, userspace issues
UFFDIO_CONTINUE to tell the kernel "I have ensured the page contents are
correct, carry on setting up the mapping".

Use Case
========

Consider the use case of VM live migration (e.g. under QEMU/KVM):

1. While a VM is still running, we copy the contents of its memory to a
target machine. The pages are populated on the target by writing to the
non-UFFD mapping, using the setup described above. The VM is still running
(and therefore its memory is likely changing), so this may be repeated
several times, until we decide the target is "up to date enough".

2. We pause the VM on the source, and start executing on the target machine.
During this gap, the VM's user(s) will *see* a pause, so it is desirable to
   minimize this window.

3. Between the last time any page was copied from the source to the target, and
when the VM was paused, the contents of that page may have changed - and
therefore the copy we have on the target machine is out of date. Although we
can keep track of which pages are out of date, for VMs with large amounts of
memory, it is "slow" to transfer this information to the target machine. We
want to resume execution before such a transfer would complete.

4. So, the guest begins executing on the target machine. The first time it
touches its memory (via the UFFD-registered mapping), userspace wants to
intercept this fault. Userspace checks whether or not the page is up to date,
and if not, copies the updated page from the source machine, via the non-UFFD
mapping. Finally, whether a copy was performed or not, userspace issues a
UFFDIO_CONTINUE ioctl to tell the kernel "I have ensured the page contents
are correct, carry on setting up the mapping".

We don't have to do all of the final updates on-demand. The userfaultfd manager
can, in the background, also copy over updated pages once it receives the map of
which pages are up-to-date or not.

Interaction with Existing APIs
==============================

Because this is a feature, a registered VMA could potentially receive both
missing and minor faults. I spent some time thinking through how the
existing API interacts with the new feature:

UFFDIO_CONTINUE cannot be used to resolve non-minor faults, as it does not
allocate a new page. If UFFDIO_CONTINUE is used on a non-minor fault:

- For non-shared memory or shmem, -EINVAL is returned.
- For hugetlb, -EFAULT is returned.

UFFDIO_COPY and UFFDIO_ZEROPAGE cannot be used to resolve minor faults.
Without modifications, the existing codepath assumes a new page needs to
be allocated. This is okay, since userspace must have a second
non-UFFD-registered mapping anyway, thus there isn't much reason to want
to use these in any case (just memcpy or memset or similar).

- If UFFDIO_COPY is used on a minor fault, -EEXIST is returned.
- If UFFDIO_ZEROPAGE is used on a minor fault, -EEXIST is returned (or -EINVAL
in the case of hugetlb, as UFFDIO_ZEROPAGE is unsupported in any case).
- UFFDIO_WRITEPROTECT simply doesn't work with shared memory, and returns
-ENOENT in that case (regardless of the kind of fault).

Future Work
===========

This series only supports hugetlbfs. I have a second series in flight to
support shmem as well, extending the functionality. This series is more
mature than the shmem support at this point, and the functionality works
fully on hugetlbfs, so this series can be merged first and then shmem
support will follow.

This patch (of 6):

This feature allows userspace to intercept "minor" faults. By "minor"
faults, I mean the following situation:

Let there exist two mappings (i.e., VMAs) to the same page(s). One of the
mappings is registered with userfaultfd (in minor mode), and the other is
not. Via the non-UFFD mapping, the underlying pages have already been
allocated & filled with some contents. The UFFD mapping has not yet been
faulted in; when it is touched for the first time, this results in what
I'm calling a "minor" fault. As a concrete example, when working with
hugetlbfs, we have huge_pte_none(), but find_lock_page() finds an existing
page.

This commit adds the new registration mode, and sets the relevant flag on
the VMAs being registered. In the hugetlb fault path, if we find that we
have huge_pte_none(), but find_lock_page() does indeed find an existing
page, then we have a "minor" fault, and if the VMA has the userfaultfd
registration flag, we call into userfaultfd to handle it.

This is implemented as a new registration mode, instead of an API feature.
This is because the alternative implementation has significant drawbacks
[1].

However, doing it this was requires we allocate a VM_* flag for the new
registration mode. On 32-bit systems, there are no unused bits, so this
feature is only supported on architectures with
CONFIG_ARCH_USES_HIGH_VMA_FLAGS. When attempting to register a VMA in
MINOR mode on 32-bit architectures, we return -EINVAL.

f23fe39801 FROMGIT: rcu/tree: Add a trace event for RCU CPU stall warnings
This commit adds a trace event which allows tracing the beginnings of RCU
CPU stall warnings on systems where sysctl_panic_on_rcu_stall is disabled.

The first parameter is the name of RCU flavor like other trace events.
The second parameter indicates whether this is a stall of an expedited
grace period, a self-detected stall of a normal grace period, or a stall
of a normal grace period detected by some CPU other than the one that
is stalled.

RCU CPU stall warnings are often caused by external-to-RCU issues,
for example, in interrupt handling or task scheduling. Therefore,
this event uses TRACE_EVENT, not TRACE_EVENT_RCU, to avoid requiring
those interested in tracing RCU CPU stalls to rebuild their kernels
with CONFIG_RCU_TRACE=y.

8d1fea4a24 FROMGIT: tracing: add error_report_end trace point
Patch series "Add error_report_end tracepoint to KFENCE and KASAN", v3.

This patchset adds a tracepoint, error_repor_end, that is to be used by
KFENCE, KASAN, and potentially other bug detection tools, when they print
an error report. One of the possible use cases is userspace collection of
kernel error reports: interested parties can subscribe to the tracing
event via tracefs, and get notified when an error report occurs.

This patch (of 3):

Introduce error_report_end tracepoint. It can be used in debugging tools
like KASAN, KFENCE, etc. to provide extensions to the error reporting
mechanisms (e.g. allow tests hook into error reporting, ease error report
collection from production kernels). Another benefit would be making use
of ftrace for debugging or benchmarking the tools themselves.

Should we need it, the tracepoint name leaves us with the possibility to
introduce a complementary error_report_start tracepoint in the future.

614afa949c ANDROID: cpuhp/pause: add trace points for pause and resume
Add a tracepoint for pause and resume which measures the
duration of time to perform the entire operation, the
cpus acted upon with this event, and the current state
of the active cpu mask. This should be sufficient
for testing pause performance.

Like other filesystem does, we introduce a new file f2fs.h in path of
include/uapi/linux/, and move f2fs-specified ioctl interface definitions
to that file, after then, in order to use those definitions, userspace
developer only need to include the new header file rather than

9889f08de4 ANDROID: trace: Add trace points for tasklet entry/exit
Tasklets are supposed to finish their work quickly and
should not block the current running process, but it is not
guaranteed that. Currently softirq_entry/exit can be used to
know total tasklets execution time, but not helpful to track
individual tasklet's execution time. With that we can't find
any culprit tasklet function, which is taking more time.

Add {hi}-tasklet_entry/exit trace point support to track
individual tasklet execution.

d583c728ce scsi: target: core: Add CONTROL field for trace events
[ Upstream commit 7010645ba7 ]

trace-cmd report doesn't show events from target subsystem because
scsi_command_size() leaks through event format string:

  [target:target_sequencer_start] function scsi_command_size not defined
  [target:target_cmd_complete] function scsi_command_size not defined

Addition of scsi_command_size() to plugin_scsi.c in trace-cmd doesn't
help because an expression is used inside TP_printk(). trace-cmd event
parser doesn't understand minus sign inside [ ]:

Error: expected ']' but read '-'

Rather than duplicating kernel code in plugin_scsi.c, provide a dedicated
field for CONTROL byte.

f86726a69d afs: Fix afs_invalidatepage to adjust the dirty region
Fix afs_invalidatepage() to adjust the dirty region recorded in
page->private when truncating a page. If the dirty region is entirely
removed, then the private data is cleared and the page dirty state is
cleared.

Without this, if the page is truncated and then expanded again by truncate,
zeros from the expanded, but no-longer dirty region may get written back to
the server if the page gets laundered due to a conflicting 3rd-party write.

It mustn't, however, shorten the dirty region of the page if that page is
still mmapped and has been marked dirty by afs_page_mkwrite(), so a flag is
stored in page->private to record this.
