print_gpio() prints the GPIO capability header and the bidirectional
GPIO state, but it never reports the separate GPI and GPO pins even
though AC_PAR_GPIO_CAP exposes their counts.
The HD-audio specification defines dedicated GPI and GPO verbs
alongside the GPIO ones, so codecs with input-only or output-only
general-purpose pins currently lose that state from
/proc/asound/card*/codec#* altogether.
Add the missing read verb definitions and extend print_gpio() to dump
the GPI and GPO pins, too, while leaving the existing IO[] output
unchanged.

The initial StarFighter quirk fixed the runtime suspend pop by muting
speakers in the shutup callback before power-down. Further hardware
validation showed that the speaker path is controlled directly by LINE2
EAPD on NID 0x1b together with GPIO2 for the external amplifier.
Replace the shutup-delay workaround with explicit sequencing of those
controls at playback start and stop:
- assert LINE2 EAPD and drive GPIO2 high on PREPARE
- deassert LINE2 EAPD and drive GPIO2 low on CLEANUP
This avoids the runtime suspend pop without a sleep, and also fixes pops
around G3 entry and display-manager start that the original workaround
did not cover.

This patch addresses a potential state inconsistency bug and optimizes
runtime performance:
1. Fix error handling in set_beep_amp():
Previously, beep_nid was assigned before adding kcontrols. If
kcontrol creation failed, the function returned error but left
beep_nid set, causing inconsistent driver state. Moved the
assignment to the end of the function.
2. Optimize senary_auto_turn_eapd():
Removed the redundant snd_hda_query_pin_caps() check inside the
loop. The target pins are sourced from spec->eapds, which is
strictly filtered during the initial parse phase. Checking
capabilities again during every mute/unmute hook is unnecessary
overhead.

Port the essential hardware initialization logic from the vendor driver
and introduce the standard HDA fixup framework to handle different
machine configurations.
Key changes:
1. Add hardware init verbs:
- Implement `senary_init_verb` to send the vendor-specific
initialization sequence required by the SN6186 chip.
- Override pin capabilities for Node 0x19 to ensure proper headset
microphone support.
2. Introduce fixup framework:
- Define a default pin configuration table (`senary_pincfg_default`)
to provide a fallback for devices with invalid BIOS configurations.
- Establish a quirk table structure for future machine-specific
fixes.
- Since the standard quirk matching relies on Subsystem IDs, we
manually apply the default fixup if `snd_hda_pick_fixup` does not
find a specific match.
This ensures the chip is correctly initialized during probe and resume,
and provides a scalable mechanism for supporting specific hardware
quirks.

The driver sets spec->gen.own_eapd_ctl to take manual control of the
EAPD (External Amplifier). However, senary_init does not turn on the
EAPD, while senary_shutdown turns it off.
Since the generic driver skips EAPD handling when own_eapd_ctl is set,
the EAPD remains off after initialization (e.g., after resume), leaving
the codec in a non-functional state.
Explicitly call senary_auto_turn_eapd in senary_init to ensure the EAPD
is enabled and the codec is functional.

HP/Speaker auto-detect (VNID_HP_ASEL) has been off by default for every
CA0132 device since the driver was added in 2012. vnode_lswitch is
always initialized to 0 in ca0132_init_chip(), and no quirk or other
code path enables it. As a result, headphone jack detection works only
after the user manually turns on "HP/Speaker Auto Detect" in alsamixer,
which is not obvious on laptops with combo jacks (e.g. Google Link,
Alienware).
Change the default to follow the headphone pin config: if the pin verb
has presence detect enabled (no AC_DEFCFG_MISC_NO_PRESENCE) and the
codec supports it (AC_PINCAP_PRES_DETECT), enable HP_ASEL by default.
This lets firmware (coreboot, UEFI, etc.) express whether the headphone
jack supports insertion detection. Devices with combo jacks can default
to auto-detect; devices with fixed/no jack leave it off.

The default bdl_pos_adj of 32 for Nvidia HDA controllers is
insufficient on GA102 (and likely other recent Nvidia GPUs) after S3
suspend/resume. The controller's DMA timing degrades after resume,
causing premature IRQ detection in azx_position_ok() which results in
silent HDMI/DP audio output despite userspace reporting a valid
playback state and correct ELD data.
Increase bdl_pos_adj to 64 for AZX_DRIVER_NVIDIA, matching the value
already used by Intel Apollo Lake for the same class of timing issue.

On Star Labs StarFighter (Realtek ALC233/235), the internal speakers can
emit an audible pop when entering or leaving runtime suspend.
Mute the speaker output paths via snd_hda_gen_shutup_speakers() in the

This is enough to avoid the pop without special EAPD handling.

This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split
over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the
resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next
line.
Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for
me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the
middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial.
So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the
syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed'
scripts.
The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want
whitespace cleanup anyway.

This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much
smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex()
interface.
As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute
force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather
than 'objs*'.
Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

The ASUS Zenbook 14 UX3405MA uses an ALC294 codec with CS35L41
amplifiers over SPI. The existing quirk for this model only configured
the amplifiers, leaving the headset microphone on the combo jack
non-functional.
Introduce a new fixup that configures pin 0x19 as headset mic input
and chains to ALC245_FIXUP_CS35L41_SPI_2 to preserve speaker
functionality.
Similar to the fix done for the UM3406HA in commit 018f659753
("ALSA: hda/realtek: Fix headset mic on ASUS Zenbook 14").

- Add interrupt redirection infrastructure
Some PCI controllers use a single demultiplexing interrupt for the MSI
interrupts of subordinate devices.
This prevents setting the interrupt affinity of device interrupts, which
causes device interrupts to be delivered to a single CPU. That obviously is
counterproductive for multi-queue devices and interrupt balancing.
To work around this limitation the new infrastructure installs a dummy
irq_set_affinity() callback which captures the affinity mask and picks a
redirection target CPU out of the mask.
When the PCI controller demultiplexes the interrupts it invokes a new
handling function in the core, which either runs the interrupt handler in
the context of the target CPU or delegates it to irq_work on the target CPU.
- Utilize the interrupt redirection mechanism in the PCI DWC host controller
driver.
This allows affinity control for the subordinate device MSI interrupts
instead of being randomly executed on the CPU which runs the demultiplex
handler.
- Replace the binary 64-bit MSI flag with a DMA mask
Some PCI devices have PCI_MSI_FLAGS_64BIT in the MSI capability, but
implement less than 64 address bits. This breaks on platforms where such a
device is assigned an MSI address higher than what's supported.
With the binary 64-bit flag there is no other choice than disabling 64-bit
MSI support which leaves the device disfunctional.
By using a DMA mask the address limit of a device can be described
correctly which provides support for the above scenario.
- Make use of the DMA mask based address limit in the hda/intel and radeon
drivers to enable them on affected platforms.

TAS2781 driver supports three solutions of calibrated data. The first is
from the driver itself: driver reads the calibrated files directly during
probe; The second is from user space: during init of audio hal, the audio
hal will pass the calibrated data via kcontrol interface. Driver will
store this data in "struct calidata" for use. The third is from UEFI,
mainly used in hda device. These three solutions save the calibrated data
into different data structures. It is time to put them together into
"struct calidata" for use.

First, adding a generic quirk for Bass speaker DAC avoidance.
This pattern (re-routing the bass speakers off of a DAC without volume
control) seems common enough that having a "model" to match against and
quickly use to verify may be worthwhile.
The alc285_fixup_thinkpad_x1_gen7 routing was selected, amongst the
different options, as it should allow tuning the ratio between both
speaker set.
The routing was verified using `hda-verb`, and picking either 0x00 or
0x01. Either routing made the volume of the bass speakers controllable.
hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC1D0 0x17 SET_CONNECT_SEL 0x01
This likely will apply for the Minisforum V3, though there isn't a lot
of information to confirm whether or not the identifiers are the same.
This was verified on the Minisforum V3 SE, and the root cause (the bass
speakers routing) was found out by using pink noise, and playing with
the mixers.

Add support for the Anbernic RG-DS Speaker Amplifiers. The Anbernic
RG-DS uses two AW87391 ICs at 0x58 and 0x5B on i2c2. However, the
manufacturer did not provide a firmware file, only a sequence of
register writes to each device to enable and disable them.
Add support for this *specific* configuration in the AW87390 driver.
Since we are relying on a device specific sequence I am using a
device specific compatible string. This driver does not currently
support the aw87391 for any other device as I have none to test
with valid firmware. Attempts to create firmware with the AwinicSCPv4
have not been successful.
The hda/intel driver restricts the MSI message address for devices which do
not advertise full 64-bit DMA address space support to 32-bit due to the
former restrictions of the PCI/MSI code which only allowed either 32-bit or
a full 64-bit address range.
This does not work on platforms which have a MSI doorbell address above the
32-bit boundary but do not support the full 64 bit address range.
The PCI/MSI core converted this binary decision to a DMA_BIT_MASK() based
decision, which allows to describe the device limitations precisely.
Convert the driver to provide the exact DMA address limitations to the
PCI/MSI core. That allows devices which do not support the full 64-bit
address space to work on platforms which have a MSI doorbell address above
the 32-bit limit as long as it is within the hardware's addressable range.

Some PCI devices have PCI_MSI_FLAGS_64BIT in the MSI capability, but
implement less than 64 address bits. This breaks on platforms where such
a device is assigned an MSI address higher than what's supported.
Currently, no_64bit_msi bit is set for these devices, meaning that only
32-bit MSI addresses are allowed for them. However, on some platforms the
MSI doorbell address is above the 32-bit limit but within the addressable
range of the device.
As a first step to enable MSI on those combinations of devices and
platforms, convert the boolean no_64bit_msi flag to a DMA mask and fixup
the affected usage sites:
- no_64bit_msi = 1 -> msi_addr_mask = DMA_BIT_MASK(32)
- no_64bit_msi = 0 -> msi_addr_mask = DMA_BIT_MASK(64)
- if (no_64bit_msi) -> if (msi_addr_mask < DMA_BIT_MASK(64))
Since no values other than DMA_BIT_MASK(32) and DMA_BIT_MASK(64) are used,
this is functionally equivalent.
This prepares for changing the binary decision between 32 and 64 bit to a
DMA mask based decision which allows to support systems which have a DMA
address space less than 64bit but a MSI doorbell address above the 32-bit
limit.

The amp/speakers on the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i 13IRU8 laptop aren't
fully powered up, resulting in horrible tinny sound by default.
The kernel has an existing quirk for PCI SSID 0x17aa3843 which
matches this machine and several others. The quirk applies the
ALC287_FIXUP_IDEAPAD_BASS_SPK_AMP fixup, however the fixup does not
work on this machine.
This patch modifies the existing quirk by adding a check for the
subsystem ID 0x17aa3881. If present, ALC287_FIXUP_TAS2781_I2C will
be applied instead of ALC287_FIXUP_IDEAPAD_BASS_SPK_AMP. With this
change the TAS2781 amp is powered up, firmware is downloaded and
recognised by HDA/SOF - i.e. all is good, and we can boogie.
Code is re-used from alc298_fixup_lenovo_c940_duet7(), which fixes a
similar problem with two other Lenovo laptops.
Cross checked against ALSA cardinfo database for potential clashes.
Tested against 6.18.5 kernel built with Arch Linux default options.

These are some patches for the tlv320adcx140 codec we are carrying
around for a while, time to upstream them.
Change the test suite name string to "snd-hda-cirrus-scodec-test".
It was incorrectly named "snd-hda-scodec-cs35l56-test", a leftover
from when the code under test was actually in the cs35l56 driver.

Set gpiochip parent to the struct device of the dummy GPIO driver
so that the software node will be associated with the GPIO chip.
The recent commit e5d527be7e ("gpio: swnode: don't use the
swnode's name as the key for GPIO lookup") broke cirrus_scodec_test,
because the software node no longer gets associated with the GPIO
driver by name.
Instead, setting struct gpio_chip.parent to the owning struct device
will find the node using a normal fwnode lookup.

Adds quirkiness for the Cirrus Logic CDB35L56-FOUR-HD board.
The quirk must be forced by model name "CDB35L56-FOUR-HD"
because there isn't a unique SSID that can be used. For example
in /etc/modprobe.d:
options snd-hda-intel model="CDB35L56-FOUR-HD"
The CDB35L56-FOUR-HD is not a complete PC. It is an add-on audio
board that requires a host system and replaces the normal HDA codec
on the host. Because of this there isn't an SSID that uniquely
identifies this configuration. Also, the usual host board is an
Aaeon UpXtreme, which doesn't have a unique SSID.
Because of this, the quirk must be forced by a module param.
This is acceptable because it is a development board, not an
end-user system, so there is no need for it to be detected
automatically.

Just like GA403U, this GA403W needs to remap woofers to DAC1. Similarly to
other Asus devices, headphones/headset MIC is not working, however the pin
config alone is not enough to fix it.

Even with all the values set, MIC of the jack is not detected. Until a
complete solution is found, set ALC285_FIXUP_ASUS_GA403U_HEADSET_MIC
for GA403W which fixes audio volume control for woofers. No need to
create new quirk with missing pin config just yet, since its not
making the situation better.

We used to have a variable declaration with __free() initialized with
NULL. This was to keep the old coding style rule, but recently it's
relaxed and rather recommends to follow the new rule to declare in
place of use for __free() -- which avoids potential deadlocks or UAFs
with nested cleanups.
Although the current code has no bug, per se, let's follow the new
standard and move the declaration to the place of assignment (or
directly assign the allocated result) instead of NULL initializations.

When CONFIG_PM and CONFIG_PM_SLEEP are unset, SET_SYSTEM_SLEEP_PM_OPS()

unused to the compiler in this configuration.
Use the modern SYSTEM_SLEEP_PM_OPS and RUNTIME_PM_OPS macros to resolve
these warnings, which is what they are intended to do. Additionally,

When config table entries don't match with the device to be probed,
currently we fall back to SND_INTEL_DSP_DRIVER_ANY, which means to
allow any drivers to bind with it.
This was set so with the assumption (or hope) that all controller
drivers should cover the devices generally, but in practice, this
caused a problem as reported recently. Namely, when a specific
kconfig for SOF isn't set for the modern Intel chips like Alderlake,
a wrong driver (AVS) got probed and failed. This is because we have
entries like:
#if IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_SND_SOC_SOF_ALDERLAKE)
/* Alder Lake / Raptor Lake */
{
.flags = FLAG_SOF | FLAG_SOF_ONLY_IF_DMIC_OR_SOUNDWIRE,
.device = PCI_DEVICE_ID_INTEL_HDA_ADL_S,
},
....
#endif
so this entry is effective only when CONFIG_SND_SOC_SOF_ALDERLAKE is
set. If not set, there is no matching entry, hence it returns
SND_INTEL_DSP_DRIVER_ANY as fallback. OTOH, if the kconfig is set, it
explicitly falls back to SND_INTEL_DSP_DRIVER_LEGACY when no DMIC or
SoundWire is found -- that was the working scenario. That being said,
the current setup may be broken for modern Intel chips that are
supposed to work with either SOF or legacy driver when the
corresponding kconfig were missing.
For addressing the problem above, this patch changes the fallback
driver to the legacy driver, i.e. return SND_INTEL_DSP_DRIVER_LEGACY
type as much as possible. When CONFIG_SND_HDA_INTEL is also disabled,
the fallback is set to SND_INTEL_DSP_DRIVER_ANY type, just to be sure.

From AudioDSP perspective, only gateway-related modules e.g.: Copier:
Small set of changes providing new feature which the driver is already
utilizing on the market - for its Long-Term-Support (LTS) devices.
The goal is to cover systems which shipped with invalid Non HDAudio Link
Table (NHLT) - not just the descriptors (headers), but cases where the
hardware configuration is invalid too. The table is part of the ACPI
tree and forcing BIOS updates is not a feasible solution. With the
override, the topology file can carry the hardware configuration
instead.
From AudioDSP perspective, only gateway-related modules e.g.: Copier
care about the procedure. To ensure correct order of operations when
initializing such modules, the overrides take precedence over what's
currently there in the NHLT.

Currently, on ASUS projects, the TAS2781 codec attaches the speaker GPIO
to the first tasdevice_priv instance using devm. This causes
tas2781_read_acpi to fail on subsequent probes since the GPIO is already
managed by the first device. This causes a failure on Xbox Ally X,
because it has two amplifiers, and prevents us from quirking both the
Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X in the realtek codec driver.
It is unnecessary to attach the GPIO to a device as it is static.
Therefore, instead of attaching it and then reading it when loading the
firmware, read its value directly in tas2781_read_acpi and store it in
the private data structure. Then, make reading the value non-fatal so
that ASUS projects that miss a speaker pin can still work, perhaps using
fallback firmware.

Merge series from Srinivas Kandagatla <srinivas.kandagatla@oss.qualcomm.com>:
This patchset has 4 fixes and some enhancements to the Elite DSP driver
support.
Fixes includes
- setting correct flags for expected behaviour of appl_ptr
- fix closing of copp instances
- fix buffer alignment.
- fix state checks before closing asm stream
Enhancements include:
- adding q6asm_get_hw_pointer and ack callback support
- simplify code via __free(kfree) mechanism.
- use spinlock guards
- few cleanups discovered during doing above 2.
There is another set of updates comming soon, which will add support
for early memory mapping and few more modules support in audioreach.
After restructuring and splitting the HDMI codec driver code, each
HDMI codec driver contains the own build_controls and build_pcms ops.
A copy-n-paste error put the wrong entries for nvhdmi-mcp driver; both
build_controls and build_pcms are swapped. Unfortunately both
callbacks have the very same form, and the compiler didn't complain
it, either. This resulted in a NULL dereference because the PCM
instance hasn't been initialized at calling the build_controls
callback.
Fix it by passing the proper entries.

Create debugfs files that can be used to perform factory calibration.
During manufacture, the production line must perform a factory calibration
of the amps. This commit adds this functionality via debugfs files.
As this is only needed during manufacture, there is no need for this to be
available in a normal system so a Kconfig item has been added to enable
this. The new Kconfig option is inside a sub-menu because items do not
group and indent if the parent is invisible or there are multiple parent
dependencies. Anyway the sub-menu reduces the clutter.
cs35l56_hda_apply_calibration() has been changed to return an error code
that can be reported back through the debugfs write. The original call to
this function doesn't check the return code because in normal use it
doesn't matter whether this fails - the firmware will default to a safe
calibration for the platform. But tooling using the debugfs files might
want to know if there was an error.

Core changes:
- Allow pins to be identified/marked as GPIO mode with
a special callback. The pin controller core is now
"aware" if a pin is in GPIO mode if the callback is
implemented in the driver, and can thus be marked
as "strict", i.e. disallowing simultaneous use of a
line as GPIO and another function such as I2C. This
is enabled in the Qualcomm TLMM driver and also
implemeted from day 1 in the new Broadcom STB driver.
- Rename the pin config option PIN_CONFIG_OUTPUT to
PIN_CONFIG_LEVEL to better describe what the config is
doing, as well as making it more intuitive what shall
be returned when reading this property.
New drivers:
- Qualcomm SDM660 LPASS LPI TLMM pin controller subdriver.
- Qualcomm Glymur family pin controller driver.
- Broadcom STB family pin controller driver.
- Tegra186 pin controller driver.
- AAEON UP pin controller support. This is some special
pin controller that works as an external advanced line
MUX and amplifier for signals from an Intel SoC.
A cooperative effort with the GPIO maintainer was
needed to reach a solution where we reuse code from
the GPIO aggregator/forwarder driver.
- Renesas RZ/T2H and RZ/N2H pin controller support.
- Axis ARTPEC-8 subdriver for the Samsung pin controller
driver.
Improvements:
- Output enable (OEN) support in the Renesas RZG2L driver.
- Properly support bias pull up/down in the pinctrl-single
driver.
- Move over all GPIO portions using generic MMIO GPIO to
the new generic GPIO chip management which has a nice and
separate API.
- Proper DT bindings for some older Broadcom SoCs.
- External GPIO (EGPIO) support in the Qualcomm SM8250.
Deleted code:

Merge tag 'pinctrl-v6.18-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-pinctrl
Pull pin control updates from Linus Walleij:
"We have GPIO awareness in the pin control core and an interesting
AAEON driver.
Core changes:
- Allow pins to be identified/marked as GPIO mode with a special
callback.
The pin controller core is now "aware" if a pin is in GPIO mode if
the callback is implemented in the driver, and can thus be marked
as "strict", i.e. disallowing simultaneous use of a line as GPIO
and another function such as I2C.
This is enabled in the Qualcomm TLMM driver and also implemeted
from day 1 in the new Broadcom STB driver
- Rename the pin config option PIN_CONFIG_OUTPUT to PIN_CONFIG_LEVEL
to better describe what the config is doing, as well as making it
more intuitive what shall be returned when reading this property
New drivers:
- Qualcomm SDM660 LPASS LPI TLMM pin controller subdriver
- Qualcomm Glymur family pin controller driver
- Broadcom STB family pin controller driver
- Tegra186 pin controller driver
- AAEON UP pin controller support.
This is some special pin controller that works as an external
advanced line MUX and amplifier for signals from an Intel SoC. A
cooperative effort with the GPIO maintainer was needed to reach a
solution where we reuse code from the GPIO aggregator/forwarder
driver
- Renesas RZ/T2H and RZ/N2H pin controller support
- Axis ARTPEC-8 subdriver for the Samsung pin controller driver
Improvements:
- Output enable (OEN) support in the Renesas RZG2L driver
- Properly support bias pull up/down in the pinctrl-single driver
- Move over all GPIO portions using generic MMIO GPIO to the new
generic GPIO chip management which has a nice and separate API
- Proper DT bindings for some older Broadcom SoCs
- External GPIO (EGPIO) support in the Qualcomm SM8250
Deleted code:
- Dropped the now unused Samsung S3C24xx drivers"

This generic pin config property is confusingly named so let's
rename it to make things clearer.
There are already drivers in the tree that use PIN_CONFIG_OUTPUT
to *read* the value of an output driven pin, which is a big
semantic confusion for the head: are we then reading the
setting of the output or the actual value/level that is put
out on the pin?
We already have PIN_CONFIG_OUTPUT_ENABLE that turns on driver
buffers for output, so this can by logical conclusion only
drive the voltage level if it should be any different.
But if we read the pin, are we then reading the *setting* of
the output value or the *actual* value we can see on the
line?
If the pin has not first been set into output mode with
PIN_CONFIG_OUTPUT_ENABLE, but is instead in some input mode
or tristate, what will reading this property actually
return?
Reading the current users reading this property it is clear
that what we read is the logical level of the pin as 0 or 1
depending on if it is low or high.
Rename it to PIN_CONFIG_LEVEL so it is crystal clear that
we set or read the voltage level of the pin and nothing else.

For Intel SKL and KBL platforms, it may be bound with one of three
HD-audio drivers (AVS, SOF and legacy). AVS is the preferred one when
DMIC is detected, and that's how it's defined in the snd-intel-dspcfg
config table.
But, when AVS driver is disabled (CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_AVS=n), the
device may be bound freely with either SOF or legacy driver.
Before 6.17, the legacy driver took it primarily, but on 6.17, likely
due to the recent code shuffling, SOF driver seems taking it at first,
and fails to probe. For avoiding the regression, we should enforce to
bind those with the legacy HD-audio drvier when AVS is disabled.
This patch adds the extra two entries in intel-dspcfg table that are
applied only when CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_AVS=n, for binding with the
legacy driver.
Note that there are entries for APL in that config table block, but
APL may be supported by SOF for certain setups, so the choice can't be
exclusive. Hence this patch includes only SKL and KBL.

rewrote the HDMI codec ID tables to a new format. In doing so, recently
added codec IDs from commit e0a911ac86 ("ALSA: hda: Add missing NVIDIA
HDA codec IDs") were dropped from the tables. These tables had recently
been split from the unified table that existed in patch_hdmi.c, and did
contain the entries in question after the split but before the codec ID
entries were rewritten to the new format.
Restore the missing codec ID entries to nvhdmi.c and tegrahdmi.c. There
do not appear to be any additional missing entries in any of the other
codec ID tables when compared to the patch_hdmi.c at the final revision
before the split.

type conversion, it's safer and more idiomatic to use a signed integer
to properly check for -1.

On a motherboard with an AMD Granite Ridge CPU there is a report
that 3.5mm microphone and headphones aren't working. In the
log it's observed:
snd_hda_intel 0000:02:00.6: Skipping the device on the denylist
This was because of commit df42ee7e22 ("ALSA: hda: Add ASRock
X670E Taichi to denylist"). Reverting this commit allows the
microphone and headphones to work again. As at least some combinations
of this motherboard do have applicable devices, revert so that they
can be probed.

The split of Cirrus HD-audio codec driver may confuse users when
migrating from the previous kernel configs and leave the needed
drivers disabled. Although we've already set y as default, it's still
safer to paper over the wrong choices.
This patch marks the prompt of split CS420x and CS421x codec drivers
with CONFIG_EXPERT, so that they are all enabled when the top-level
CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_CIRRUS is set.
For users who really care about the minimalistic configuration, they
can turn each driver on/off individually after setting
CONFIG_EXPERT=y.
This patch adds the missing help text to the top-level
CONFIG_SND_HDA_CIRRUS_CODEC together with the explanation of
individual choices, and corrects the help texts that don't fit well
nowadays, too.

The split of Realtek HD-audio codec driver may cause confusions
especially when migrating from the previous kernel configurations
because it's hard to know which driver to be enabled.
Although we've already set default=y for those codec drivers, it may
still make people changing the stuff unnecessarily without knowing its
side effect.
This patch is for avoiding such pitfalls by marking the prompt of each
Realtek codec driver with CONFIG_EXPERT. For "normal" users (that is,
unless CONFIG_EXPERT is set), all Realtek HD-audio codecs are enabled
together with CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_REALTEK; this is the very same
situation like the previous kernels, after all.
For users who really care about the minimalistic configuration, they
can turn each driver on/off individually after setting
CONFIG_EXPERT=y.
The patch also adds the missing help text to the top-level
CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_REALTEK together with the explanation of
individual choices, too.

Like other HD-audio codec drivers, HD-audio HDMI codec driver was
split to multiple drivers, and now users are forced to choose the

For smoother upgrade path, keep the previous CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_HDMI

The recent split of Realtek HD-audio driver forced users to choose the
right Kconfigs, but most users have no idea which ones to enable.
Although the distros tend to enable all of them, individual users may
have their own favorites and miss something needed via the version
upgrade.
For smoother upgrade path from the previous kernel configuration, now
we take the following changes:
- CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_REALTEK (which is a menuconfig) is changed from
bool to tristate again, so that it can take over from the previous
config gracefully.
- CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_ALC* receive "default y", so that they are
enabled as default as long as CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_REALTEK is set.
Those can be still disabled if users want to reduce the size, too.
At least this allows users to run "make oldconfig" and push RETURN
blindly.

Until now, we use "patch_ops" embedded in hda_codec object for
defining the callbacks that are used in various places to manage
HD-audio codec. But from the device driver POV, this should have been
rather the driver ops, instead of the callbacks in the codec object.
This patch defines the driver ops for HD-audio codec driver as the
replacement. We reuse the same struct hda_codec_ops, and this is put
as hda_codec_driver.ops. When the driver->ops callbacks are defined,
they are called primarily instead of codec->patch_ops callbacks.
With converting to the driver ops, there is no need to pass the ugly
patch_ops handling in hda_device_id tables. That is, driver_data
field of hda_device_id becomes really optional and it can be used for
passing the codec-specific data (e.g. specifying a model).
The codec entries after the conversion should be with HDA_CODEC_ID()
and co, instead of the former HDA_CODEC_ENTRY().
Once after converting all codec drivers to use driver ops, we can get
rid of codec patch_ops.

In the past, we unified HD-audio HDMI codec driver once with a slight
hope that more vendors will follow the standard, but in reality, the
driver received more and more vendor-specific code. In order to make
the messy code a bit more understandable, this patch splits the HDMI
codec driver into multiple drivers again.
Namely, the vendor-specific code for Intel, AMD and Nvidia are moved
into the own drivers, while we split the common HDMI code to two
drivers, the generic HDMI driver and the simple HDMI driver.
So, now we have:
- The generic HDMI driver (snd-hda-codec-hdmi):
providing the common helpers, also supports Glenfly HDMI codecs and
some other codecs that don't need vendor-specific stuff
- The simple HDMI driver (snd-hda-codec-simplehdmi):
devices with no dynamic PCM assignment and with fixed channels,
mostly used by some other drivers, but this driver alone suffices
for VIA HDMI codec support, too
- Intel HDMI driver (snd-hda-codec-intelhdmi):
bound with i915 / Xe DRM, based on the generic HDMI driver
- AMD/ATI HDMI driver (snd-hda-codec-atihdmi):
optionally bound with radeon / amdgpu DRM, based on the generic HDMI
driver
- Nvidia HDMI driver (snd-hda-codec-nvhdmi);
optionally bound with nouveau DRM, based on the generic HDMI driver
- Legacy Nvidia HDMI driver (snd-hda-codec-nvhdmi-mcp):
for 2ch or 8ch outputs, based on the simple HDMI driver
- Nvidia Tegra HDMI driver (snd-hda-codec-tegrahdmi):
based on the generic HDMI driver
Along with the driver split, the enable_silent_stream module option is
moved to snd-hda-codec-intelhdmi, too, as it's an Intel-specific
feature.
Most of the changes here are just to split and move the code to
different files, as well as to rename/expose the functions that are
commonly used by drivers.
The silent stream handling code is slightly modified for putting the
stuff into Intel driver; now a new callback "silent_stream" is defined
in hdmi_ops, and it's called in silent_stream_enable() and *_disable()
functions. The runtime-PM handling in silent_stream_enable() was
cleaned up, and rather taking the runtime PM refcount in the
silent_stream() callback appropriately, instead.
Other than that, there should be no functional changes.

The snd-hda-codec-realtek driver supports many different codec models
and accumulated lots of quirks. Now let's split it to multiple
modules per probe function, i.e. for ALC260, ALC262, ALC269, etc.
The common code and quirks are provided by the common library module,
snd-hda-codec-realtek-lib now. One drawback of this action is that
many symbols have to be exported. But they are limited with
SND_HDA_CODEC_REALTEK namespace, at least.
This patch tries to be idiomatic and doesn't try to rewrite the
existing code. We can move the codec model-specific code into each
codec driver later.
The HD-audio sub-codec component binding is currently specific to
ALC269, hence the management is moved into alc269.c.
After that, alc_free() became identical with snd_hda_gen_free(), and
it's replaced as a macro just to call snd_hda_gen_free().

Now move the all remaining codec drivers from sound/pci/hda to

under helpers subdirectory. Also the sub-codec drivers are moved under
a different subdirectory, sound/hda/codecs/sub-codecs, for
distinguishing from the main HD-audio codec drivers.

OTOH, there are macros of the same name like get_wcaps() that are
still used in sound/pci/hda/* locally, and those conflict with each
other. So we need to rename get_wcaps() (to be moved from hda-core)
with the proper snd_hdac prefix for avoiding name conflicts, and

In both the read callback for struct cyclecounter, and in struct
timecounter, struct cyclecounter is declared as a const pointer.
Unfortunatly, a number of users of this pointer treat it as a non-const
pointer as it is burried in a larger structure that is heavily modified by
the callback function when accessed. This lie had been hidden by the fact
that container_of() "casts away" a const attribute of a pointer without any
compiler warning happening at all.
Fix this all up by removing the const attribute in the needed places so
that everyone can see that the structure really isn't const, but can,

In commit d69d804845 ("driver core: have match() callback in struct
bus_type take a const *"), the match bus callback was changed to have
the driver be a const pointer. Unfortunately that const attribute was
thrown away when container_of() is called, which is not correct and was
not caught by the compiler due to how container_of() is implemented.
Fix this up by correctly preserving the const attribute of the driver
passed to the bus match function which requires the hdac_driver match
function to also take a const pointer for the driver structure.

snd_hdac_stream_get_spbmaxfifo() was originally added in 2015
in commit ee8bc4df1b ("ALSA: hdac: Add support to enable SPIB for hdac
ext stream")
when it was originally called snd_hdac_ext_stream_set_spbmaxfifo,
it was renamed snd_hdac_ext_stream_get_spbmaxfifo shortly after
and was finally renamed to snd_hdac_stream_get_spbmaxfifo in 2022.
But it was never used.

Merge series from Cezary Rojewski <cezary.rojewski@intel.com>:
Relatively small delta-wise patchset which raises max channels supported
from 8 to 16. The existing limitation is software-based, not hardware
based. The hardware, as per HDAudio specification, section 1.2.2,
(relevant register at SDnFMT, section 3.3.41) supports the
configurations for years. The avs-driver becomes the first consumer of
that configuration on the Linux kernel side.
Set starts off with update to string_helpers so that functionality added
with parse_int_array_user() can be utilized in kernel-kernel
interactions.
Follow up is rasing the cap on HDAudio-library side. The format
selection procedure found in the library is good-to-go as is.
Everything that follows these two patches is avs-driver specific:
- raise channels_max for every DAI-driver template
- provide i2s_test module parameter for testing purposes. When combined
with I2S loopback card, allows to test 16ch on most Intel hardware post
Broadwell era
- adjust TDM masks to reflect the 8 -> 16 channels change
As per HDAudio specification, up to 16 channels are supported. Reflect
that in the code.

As per specification, SDxLVI shall be at least 1 i.e.: two chunks to
perform a valid transfer. This is true for the PCM transfer code but
not firmware-transfer one.
Technical background:
- the LVI > 0 rule shall be obeyed in PCM transfer
- HW permits LVI == 0 when transfer is SW-controlled (SPIB)
- FW download is not a PCM transfer and is SW-controlled (SPIB)
The above is the fundament which AudioDSP firmware loading functions
have been built upon and worked since 2016. The presented changes are to
align the loading flows and avoid rising more questions in the future.
Achieve the goal by splitting snd_hdac_stream_setup_periods() into
substream-dependent and -independent part. Let snd_hdac_dsp_prepare()
utilize the latter so that both DSP-loading and PCM flows utilize same
BLDE setup loop which already takes care of cutting the buffer based on
azx_dev->period_bytes.

Some old Bay Trail tablets which shipped with Android as factory OS
have the SST/LPE audio engine described by an ACPI device with a
HID (Hardware-ID) of LPE0F28 instead of 80860F28.
Add support for this. Note this uses a new sst_res_info for just
the LPE0F28 case because it has a different layout for the IO-mem ACPI
resources then the 80860F28.
An example of a tablet which needs this is the Vexia EDU ATLA 10 tablet,

Since there are a few corner cases where the S/G buffer allocation
isn't performed (e.g. depending on IOMMU implementations), it'd be
better to allow the default buffer preallocation size for x86, too.
The default for x86 is still kept to 0, as it should work in most
cases.

Here is the big set of driver core changes for 6.11-rc1.
Lots of stuff in here, with not a huge diffstat, but apis are evolving
which required lots of files to be touched. Highlights of the changes
in here are:
- platform remove callback api final fixups (Uwe took many releases to
get here, finally!)
- Rust bindings for basic firmware apis and initial driver-core
interactions. It's not all that useful for a "write a whole driver
in rust" type of thing, but the firmware bindings do help out the
phy rust drivers, and the driver core bindings give a solid base on
which others can start their work. There is still a long way to go
here before we have a multitude of rust drivers being added, but
it's a great first step.
- driver core const api changes. This reached across all bus types,
and there are some fix-ups for some not-common bus types that
linux-next and 0-day testing shook out. This work is being done to
help make the rust bindings more safe, as well as the C code, moving
toward the end-goal of allowing us to put driver structures into
read-only memory. We aren't there yet, but are getting closer.
- minor devres cleanups and fixes found by code inspection
- arch_topology minor changes
- other minor driver core cleanups
All of these have been in linux-next for a very long time with no
reported problems.

In the match() callback, the struct device_driver * should not be
changed, so change the function callback to be a const *. This is one
step of many towards making the driver core safe to have struct
device_driver in read-only memory.
Because the match() callback is in all busses, all busses are modified
to handle this properly. This does entail switching some container_of()
calls to container_of_const() to properly handle the constant *.
For some busses, like PCI and USB and HV, the const * is cast away in
the match callback as those busses do want to modify those structures at
this point in time (they have a local lock in the driver structure.)
That will have to be changed in the future if they wish to have their
struct device * in read-only-memory.

When a DSP driver is used, the common helper may be called multiple

With the rework of how the __string() handles dynamic strings where it
saves off the source string in field in the helper structure[1], the
assignment of that value to the trace event field is stored in the helper
value and does not need to be passed in again.
This means that with:
__string(field, mystring)
Which use to be assigned with __assign_str(field, mystring), no longer
needs the second parameter and it is unused. With this, __assign_str()
will now only get a single parameter.
There's over 700 users of __assign_str() and because coccinelle does not
handle the TRACE_EVENT() macro I ended up using the following sed script:
git grep -l __assign_str | while read a ; do
sed -e 's/\(__assign_str([^,]*[^ ,]\) *,[^;]*/\1)/' $a > /tmp/test-file;
mv /tmp/test-file $a;
done
I then searched for __assign_str() that did not end with ';' as those
were multi line assignments that the sed script above would fail to catch.
Note, the same updates will need to be done for:
__assign_str_len()
__assign_rel_str()
__assign_rel_str_len()
I tested this with both an allmodconfig and an allyesconfig (build only for both).

The SOF driver is selected whenever specific I2C/I2S HIDs are reported
as 'present' in the ACPI DSDT. In some cases, an HID is reported but
the hardware does not actually rely on I2C/I2S. This false positive
leads to an invalid selection of the SOF driver and as a result an
invalid topology is loaded.
This patch hardens the detection with a check that the NHLT table is
consistent with the report of an I2S-based codec in DSDT. This table
should expose at least one SSP endpoint configured for an I2S-codec
connection.
Tested on Huawei Matebook D14 (NBLB-WAX9N) using an HDaudio codec with
an invalid ES8336 ACPI HID reported:

Commit 78f613ba1e ("drm/i915: finish removal of CNL") and its friends
removed support for i915 for all CNL-based platforms. HDAudio library,
however, still treats such platforms as valid candidates for i915
binding. Update query mechanism to reflect changes made in drm tree.
At the same time, i915 support for LKF-based platforms has not been
provided so remove them from valid binding candidates.

There are two ways to opportunistically increment a device's runtime PM
usage count, calling either pm_runtime_get_if_active() or
pm_runtime_get_if_in_use(). The former has an argument to tell whether to
ignore the usage count or not, and the latter simply calls the former with
ign_usage_count set to false. The other users that want to ignore the
usage_count will have to explicitly set that argument to true which is a
bit cumbersome.
To make this function more practical to use, remove the ign_usage_count
argument from the function. The main implementation is in a static
function called pm_runtime_get_conditional() and implementations of
pm_runtime_get_if_active() and pm_runtime_get_if_in_use() are moved to
runtime.c.

Existing DSDT or SSDT platforms hard-code clock and frame shape
configurations. For validation, we'd like to use alternate
configurations. It's not always possible to generate new tables due to
missing symbols, and modifying existing objects usually leads to
AE_OBJECT_EXIST errors.
The mechanism suggested in this patch is to add a NEW ACPI controller
device with a different _ADR value. e.g.
Scope (_SB_.PC00.RP08.PXSX.HDAS) {
Device (SDWP)
{
Name (_ADR, 0x40000001) // _ADR: Address
The desired _ADR can be passed as a parameter with
options snd-intel-sdw-acpi sdw_ctrl_addr=0x40000001
This solution leads to minimal tables with just what the developers or
validation engineers need, and without overriding any of the existing
firmware definitions. It's consistent with the recommendation to
extend ACPI definitions and not redefine them with a risk of conflict.

Now that the driver core can properly handle constant struct bus_type,
move all of the sound subsystem struct bus_type structures as const,
placing them into read-only memory which can not be modified at runtime.
Note, this fixes a duplicate definition of ac97_bus_type, which somehow
was declared extern in a .h file, and then static as a prototype in a .c
file, and then properly later on in the same .c file. Amazing that no
compiler warning ever showed up for this.

Introduce a set of functions that ultimately facilite SDxFMT-related
calculations in atomic manner:
First, introduce snd_pcm_subformat_width() and snd_pcm_hw_params_bits()
helpers that separate the base functionality from the HDAudio-specific
one.
snd_hdac_format_normalize() - format converter. S20_LE, S24_LE and their
unsigned and BE friends are invalid from HDAudio perspective but still
can be specified as function argument due to compatibility reasons.
snd_hdac_stream_format_bits() - obtain just the bits-per-sample value.
Does not ignore subformat and msbits parameters.
snd_hdac_stream_format() and snd_hdac_spdif_stream_format() - obtain the
SDxFMT value given the audio format parameters. The former is stripped
away of spdif-related information. Useful for users that do not care

In a couple of loops over the all streams, we check the bitmap against
the loop counter. A more correct reference would be, however, the
index of each stream, instead.
This patch corrects the check of bitmaps to the stream index.
Note that this change doesn't fix anything for now; all existing
drivers set up the stream indices properly, hence the loop count is
always equal with the stream index. That said, this change is only
