ab1513597c Bluetooth: fix UAF in l2cap_sock_cleanup_listen() vs l2cap_conn_del()
bt_accept_dequeue() unlinks a not-yet-accepted child from the parent
accept queue and release_sock()s it before returning, so the returned
sk has no caller reference and is unlocked.

l2cap_sock_cleanup_listen() walks these children on listening-socket
close.  A concurrent HCI disconnect drives hci_rx_work ->
l2cap_conn_del() which runs l2cap_chan_del() + l2cap_sock_kill() and
frees the child sk and its l2cap_chan; cleanup_listen() then uses both:

  BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in l2cap_sock_kill
    l2cap_sock_kill / l2cap_sock_cleanup_listen / __x64_sys_close
  Freed by: l2cap_conn_del -> l2cap_sock_close_cb -> l2cap_sock_kill

This is distinct from the two fixes already in this area: commit
e83f5e24da ("Bluetooth: serialize accept_q access") serialises the
accept_q list/poll and takes temporary refs inside bt_accept_dequeue(),
and CVE-2025-39860 serialises the userspace close()/accept() race by
calling cleanup_listen() under lock_sock() in l2cap_sock_release().
Neither covers l2cap_conn_del() running from hci_rx_work, so this UAF
still reproduces on current bluetooth/master.

Take the reference at the source: bt_accept_dequeue() does sock_hold()
while sk is still locked, before release_sock(); callers sock_put().
cleanup_listen() pins the chan with l2cap_chan_hold_unless_zero() under
a brief child sk lock (serialising vs l2cap_sock_teardown_cb()), drops
it before l2cap_chan_lock(), and skips a duplicate l2cap_sock_kill() on
SOCK_DEAD.  conn->lock is not taken here: cleanup_listen() runs under
the parent sk lock and that would invert
conn->lock -> chan->lock -> sk_lock (lockdep).

KASAN/SMP: an unprivileged listen/close vs HCI-disconnect race produced
12 use-after-free reports per run before this change; 0, and no lockdep
report, over 1600+ raced iterations after it on bluetooth/master.

4e37f6452d Bluetooth: SCO: hold sk properly in sco_conn_ready
sk deref in sco_conn_ready must be done either under conn->lock, or
holding a refcount, to avoid concurrent close. conn->sk and parent sk is
currently accessed without either, and without checking parent->sk_state:

that the socket is still valid.  Adjust conn->sk locking so it's
protected also by lock_sock() of the associated socket if any.

b819db93d7 Bluetooth: SCO: fix sleeping under spinlock in sco_conn_ready
sco_conn_ready calls sleeping functions under conn->lock spinlock.

The critical section can be reduced: conn->hcon is modified only with
hdev->lock held. It is guaranteed to be held in sco_conn_ready, so
conn->lock is not needed to guard it.

Move taking conn->lock after lock_sock(parent). This also follows the
lock ordering lock_sock() > conn->lock elsewhere in the file.

4e10a9ebbf Bluetooth: SCO: check for codecs->num_codecs == 1 before assigning to sco_pi(sk)->codec
copy_struct_from_sockptr() fill 'buffer' in
sco_sock_setsockopt() with zeros, so there's no
real problem.

But it actually looks strange to do this,
without checking all of codecs->codecs[0]
really comes from userspace:

  sco_pi(sk)->codec = codecs->codecs[0];

As only optlen < sizeof(struct bt_codecs) is checked
and codecs->num_codecs is not checked against != 1,
but only <= 1, and the space for the additional struct bt_codec
is not checked.

Note I don't understand bluetooth and I didn't do any runtime
tests with this! I just found it when debugging a problem
in copy_struct_from_sockptr().

I just added this to check the size is as expected:

  BUILD_BUG_ON(struct_size(codecs, codecs, 1) != 8);

And made sure it still compiles using this:

8a5b0135d4 Bluetooth: SCO: fix race conditions in sco_sock_connect()
sco_sock_connect() checks sk_state and sk_type without holding
the socket lock. Two concurrent connect() syscalls on the same
socket can both pass the check and enter sco_connect(), leading
to use-after-free.

The buggy scenario involves three participants and was confirmed
with additional logging instrumentation:

Thread B revives a BT_CLOSED + SOCK_ZAPPED socket back to
BT_CONNECT. Subsequent cleanup triggers double sock_put() and
use-after-free. Meanwhile conn1 is leaked as it was orphaned
when sco_conn_del() cleared the association.

Fix this by:
- Moving lock_sock() before the sk_state/sk_type checks in
  sco_sock_connect() to serialize concurrent connect attempts
- Fixing the sk_type != SOCK_SEQPACKET check to actually
  return the error instead of just assigning it
- Adding a state re-check in sco_connect() after lock_sock()
  to catch state changes during the window between the locks
- Adding sco_pi(sk)->conn check in sco_chan_add() to prevent
  double-attach of a socket to multiple connections
- Adding hci_conn_drop() on sco_chan_add failure to prevent
  HCI connection leaks

598dbba991 Bluetooth: SCO: Fix use-after-free in sco_recv_frame() due to missing sock_hold
sco_recv_frame() reads conn->sk under sco_conn_lock() but immediately
releases the lock without holding a reference to the socket. A concurrent
close() can free the socket between the lock release and the subsequent
sk->sk_state access, resulting in a use-after-free.

Other functions in the same file (sco_sock_timeout(), sco_conn_del())
correctly use sco_sock_hold() to safely hold a reference under the lock.

Fix by using sco_sock_hold() to take a reference before releasing the
lock, and adding sock_put() on all exit paths.

21e4271e65 Bluetooth: purge error queues in socket destructors
When TX timestamping is enabled via SO_TIMESTAMPING, SKBs may be queued
into sk_error_queue and will stay there until consumed. If userspace never
gets to read the timestamps, or if the controller is removed unexpectedly,
these SKBs will leak.

Fix by adding skb_queue_purge() calls for sk_error_queue in affected
bluetooth destructors. RFCOMM does not currently use sk_error_queue.

bf4afc53b7 Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

69050f8d6d treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

79a2d4678b Bluetooth: hci_core: lookup hci_conn on RX path on protocol side
The hdev lock/lookup/unlock/use pattern in the packet RX path doesn't
ensure hci_conn* is not concurrently modified/deleted. This locking
appears to be leftover from before conn_hash started using RCU
commit bf4c632524 ("Bluetooth: convert conn hash to RCU")
and not clear if it had purpose since then.

Currently, there are code paths that delete hci_conn* from elsewhere
than the ordered hdev->workqueue where the RX work runs in. E.g.
commit 5af1f84ed1 ("Bluetooth: hci_sync: Fix UAF on hci_abort_conn_sync")
introduced some of these, and there probably were a few others before
it.  It's better to do the locking so that even if these run
concurrently no UAF is possible.

Move the lookup of hci_conn and associated socket-specific conn to
protocol recv handlers, and do them within a single critical section
to cover hci_conn* usage and lookup.

syzkaller has reported a crash that appears to be this issue:

3169e36ae1 net: make sk->sk_sndtimeo lockless
Followup of commit 285975dd67 ("net: annotate data-races around
sk->sk_{rcv|snd}timeo").

Remove lock_sock()/release_sock() from sock_set_sndtimeo(),
and add READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() where it is needed.

Also SO_SNDTIMEO_OLD and SO_SNDTIMEO_NEW can call sock_set_timeout()
without holding the socket lock.

sco_conn refcount shall not be incremented a second time if the sk
already owns the refcount, so hold only when adding new chan.

Add sco_conn_hold() for clarity, as refcnt is never zero here due to the
sco_conn_add().

Fixes SCO socket shutdown not actually closing the SCO connection.

29a651451e Bluetooth: SCO: Add support for 16 bits transparent voice setting
The voice setting is used by sco_connect() or sco_conn_defer_accept()
after being set by sco_sock_setsockopt().

The PCM part of the voice setting is used for offload mode through PCM
chipset port.
This commits add support for mSBC 16 bits offloading, i.e. audio data
not transported over HCI.

The BCM4349B1 supports 16 bits transparent data on its I2S port.
If BT_VOICE_TRANSPARENT is used when accepting a SCO connection, this
gives only garbage audio while using BT_VOICE_TRANSPARENT_16BIT gives
correct audio.
This has been tested with connection to iPhone 14 and Samsung S24.

3e643e4efa Bluetooth: Improve setsockopt() handling of malformed user input
The bt_copy_from_sockptr() return value is being misinterpreted by most
users: a non-zero result is mistakenly assumed to represent an error code,
but actually indicates the number of bytes that could not be copied.

Remove bt_copy_from_sockptr() and adapt callers to use
copy_safe_from_sockptr().

For sco_sock_setsockopt() (case BT_CODEC) use copy_struct_from_sockptr() to
scrub parts of uninitialized buffer.

Opportunistically, rename `len` to `optlen` in hci_sock_setsockopt_old()
and hci_sock_setsockopt().

e6720779ae Bluetooth: SCO: Use kref to track lifetime of sco_conn
This make use of kref to keep track of reference of sco_conn which
allows better tracking of its lifetime with usage of things like
kref_get_unless_zero in a similar way as used in l2cap_chan.

In addition to it remove call to sco_sock_set_timer on __sco_sock_close
since at that point it is useless to set a timer as the sk will be freed
there is nothing to be done in sco_sock_timeout.

a5b862c6a2 Bluetooth: L2CAP: Fix div-by-zero in l2cap_le_flowctl_init()
l2cap_le_flowctl_init() can cause both div-by-zero and an integer
overflow since hdev->le_mtu may not fall in the valid range.

Move MTU from hci_dev to hci_conn to validate MTU and stop the connection
process earlier if MTU is invalid.
Also, add a missing validation in read_buffer_size() and make it return
an error value if the validation fails.
Now hci_conn_add() returns ERR_PTR() as it can fail due to the both a
kzalloc failure and invalid MTU value.

Rather than pass in flags, error pointer, and whether this is a kernel
invocation or not, add a struct proto_accept_arg struct as the argument.
This then holds all of these arguments, and prepares accept for being
able to pass back more information.

483bc08181 Bluetooth: Fix use-after-free bugs caused by sco_sock_timeout
When the sco connection is established and then, the sco socket
is releasing, timeout_work will be scheduled to judge whether
the sco disconnection is timeout. The sock will be deallocated
later, but it is dereferenced again in sco_sock_timeout. As a
result, the use-after-free bugs will happen. The root cause is

The same exact error occurs in l2cap_sock.c. The copy_to_user()
statements that are failing come from l2cap_sock_getsockopt_old() and
sco_sock_getsockopt_old(). This does not occur with GCC with or without
KCSAN or Clang without KCSAN enabled.

len is defined as an 'int' because it is assigned from
'__user int *optlen'. However, it is clamped against the result of
sizeof(), which has a type of 'size_t' ('unsigned long' for 64-bit
platforms). This is done with min_t() because min() requires compatible
types, which results in both len and the result of sizeof() being casted
to 'unsigned int', meaning len changes signs and the result of sizeof()
is truncated. From there, len is passed to copy_to_user(), which has a
third parameter type of 'unsigned long', so it is widened and changes
signs again. This excessive casting in combination with the KCSAN
instrumentation causes LLVM to fail to eliminate the __bad_copy_from()
call, failing the build.

The official recommendation from LLVM developers is to consistently use
long types for all size variables to avoid the unnecessary casting in
the first place. Change the type of len to size_t in both
l2cap_sock_getsockopt_old() and sco_sock_getsockopt_old(). This clears
up the error while allowing min_t() to be replaced with min(), resulting
in simpler code with no casts and fewer implicit conversions. While len
is a different type than optlen now, it should result in no functional
change because the result of sizeof() will clamp all values of optlen in
the same manner as before.

This aligns the use socket sk_timeo as conn_timeout when initiating a
connection and then use it when scheduling the resulting HCI command,
that way the command is actually aborted synchronously thus not

controller the connection is to be aborted.

bc1fb82ae1 net: annotate data-races around sk->sk_lingertime
sk_getsockopt() runs locklessly. This means sk->sk_lingertime
can be read while other threads are changing its value.

Other reads also happen without socket lock being held,
and must be annotated.

Remove preprocessor logic using BITS_PER_LONG, compilers
are smart enough to figure this by themselves.

3dcaa192ac Bluetooth: SCO: fix sco_conn related locking and validity issues
Operations that check/update sk_state and access conn should hold
lock_sock, otherwise they can race.

The order of taking locks is hci_dev_lock > lock_sock > sco_conn_lock,
which is how it is in connect/disconnect_cfm -> sco_conn_del ->
sco_chan_del.

Fix locking in sco_connect to take lock_sock around updating sk_state
and conn.

sco_conn_del must not occur during sco_connect, as it frees the
sco_conn. Hold hdev->lock longer to prevent that.

sco_conn_add shall return sco_conn with valid hcon. Make it so also when
reusing an old SCO connection waiting for disconnect timeout (see
__sco_sock_close where conn->hcon is set to NULL).

This should not reintroduce the issue fixed in the earlier
commit 9a8ec9e8eb ("Bluetooth: SCO: Fix possible circular locking
dependency on sco_connect_cfm"), the relevant fix of releasing lock_sock
in sco_sock_connect before acquiring hdev->lock is retained.

These changes mirror similar fixes earlier in ISO sockets.

Connecting the same socket twice consecutively in sco_sock_connect()
could lead to a race condition where two sco_conn objects are created
but only one is associated with the socket. If the socket is closed
before the SCO connection is established, the timer associated with the
dangling sco_conn object won't be canceled. As the sock object is being

f6873401a6 Bluetooth: Allow setting of codec for HFP offload use case
This patch allows user space to set the codec that needs to
be used for HFP offload use case. The codec details are cached and
the controller is configured before opening the SCO connection.

49d8a56064 Bluetooth: fix init and cleanup of sco_conn.timeout_work
Before freeing struct sco_conn, all delayed timeout work should be
cancelled. Otherwise, sco_sock_timeout could potentially use the
sco_conn after it has been freed.

Additionally, sco_conn.timeout_work should be initialized when the
connection is allocated, not when the channel is added. This is
because an sco_conn can create channels with multiple sockets over its
lifetime, which happens if sockets are released but the connection
isn't deleted.

f4712fa993 Bluetooth: call sock_hold earlier in sco_conn_del
In sco_conn_del, conn->sk is read while holding on to the
sco_conn.lock to avoid races with a socket that could be released
concurrently.

However, in between unlocking sco_conn.lock and calling sock_hold,
it's possible for the socket to be freed, which would cause a
use-after-free write when sock_hold is finally called.

To fix this, the reference count of the socket should be increased
while the sco_conn.lock is still held.

99c23da0ee Bluetooth: sco: Fix lock_sock() blockage by memcpy_from_msg()
The sco_send_frame() also takes lock_sock() during memcpy_from_msg()
call that may be endlessly blocked by a task with userfaultd
technique, and this will result in a hung task watchdog trigger.

Just like the similar fix for hci_sock_sendmsg() in commit
92c685dc5de0 ("Bluetooth: reorganize functions..."), this patch moves
the  memcpy_from_msg() out of lock_sock() for addressing the hang.

This should be the last piece for fixing CVE-2021-3640 after a few
already queued fixes.

e1dee2c1de Bluetooth: fix repeated calls to sco_sock_kill
In commit 4e1a720d03 ("Bluetooth: avoid killing an already killed
socket"), a check was added to sco_sock_kill to skip killing a socket
if the SOCK_DEAD flag was set.

This was done after a trace for a use-after-free bug showed that the
same sock pointer was being killed twice.

Unfortunately, this check prevents sco_sock_kill from running on any
socket. sco_sock_kill kills a socket only if it's zapped and orphaned,
however sock_orphan announces that the socket is dead before detaching
it. i.e., orphaned sockets have the SOCK_DEAD flag set.

To fix this, we remove the check for SOCK_DEAD, and avoid repeated
calls to sco_sock_kill by removing incorrect calls in:

1. sco_sock_timeout. The socket should not be killed on timeout as
further processing is expected to be done. For example,
sco_sock_connect sets the timer then waits for the socket to be
connected or for an error to be returned.

2. sco_conn_del. This function should clean up resources for the
connection, but the socket itself should be cleaned up in
sco_sock_release.

3. sco_sock_close. Calls to sco_sock_close in sco_sock_cleanup_listen
and sco_sock_release are followed by sco_sock_kill. Hence the
duplicated call should be removed.
