This patch enhances the HID gadget driver to support dynamic configuration
of the interrupt polling interval (bInterval) via configfs. A new
‘interval’ attribute is exposed under each HID function’s configfs
directory, and any write to it will adjust the poll rate for all endpoints
without requiring a rebuild.
When the attribute has never been written, legacy defaults are preserved:
• Full-Speed (FS) endpoints (IN & OUT) poll every 10 ms
• High-Speed (HS) endpoints (IN & OUT) poll every 4 micro-frames
(~1 ms)
To implement this cleanly:
• Add two new fields to f_hid_opts and f_hidg:
– unsigned char interval
– bool interval_user_set
• Introduce dedicated f_hid_opts_interval_show/store functions.
The store routine parses into an unsigned int, bounds‐checks,
assigns to opts->interval, and sets opts->interval_user_set = true.
• Initialize opts->interval = 4 and opts->interval_user_set = false in
hidg_alloc_inst(), then copy both into the live f_hidg instance in
hidg_alloc().
• In hidg_bind(), set each endpoint’s bInterval based on whether the
user has written the attribute:
– If interval_user_set == false, use FS=10 / HS=4
– If interval_user_set == true, use the user’s value for both FS
& HS

Update struct hid_descriptor to better reflect the mandatory and
optional parts of the HID Descriptor as per USB HID 1.11 specification.
Note: the kernel currently does not parse any optional HID class
descriptors, only the mandatory report descriptor.
Update all references to member element desc[0] to rpt_desc.
Add test to verify bLength and bNumDescriptors values are valid.
Replace the for loop with direct access to the mandatory HID class
descriptor member for the report descriptor. This eliminates the
possibility of getting an out-of-bounds fault.
Add a warning message if the HID descriptor contains any unsupported
optional HID class descriptors.

The variable tpgt in usbg_make_tpg() is defined as unsigned long and is
assigned to tpgt->tport_tpgt, which is defined as u16. This may cause an
integer overflow when tpgt is greater than USHRT_MAX (65535). I
haven't tried to trigger it myself, but it is possible to trigger it
by calling usbg_make_tpg() with a large value for tpgt.
I modified the type of tpgt to match tpgt->tport_tpgt and adjusted the

Currently while UDC suspends, u_ether attempts to remote wakeup
the host if there are any pending transfers. However, if remote
wakeup fails, the UDC remains suspended but the is_suspend flag
is not set. And since is_suspend flag isn't set, the subsequent
eth_start_xmit() would queue USB requests to suspended UDC.
To fix this, bail out from gether_suspend() only if remote wakeup
operation is successful.

with the one of kthread_create(). The kthread worker is created but not

While the MIDI jacks are configured correctly, and the MIDIStreaming
endpoint descriptors are filled with the correct information,
bNumEmbMIDIJack and bLength are set incorrectly in these descriptors.
This does not matter when the numbers of in and out ports are equal, but
when they differ the host will receive broken descriptors with
uninitialized stack memory leaking into the descriptor for whichever
value is smaller.
The precise meaning of "in" and "out" in the port counts is not clearly
defined and can be confusing. But elsewhere the driver consistently
uses this to match the USB meaning of IN and OUT viewed from the host,
so that "in" ports send data to the host and "out" ports receive data
from it.

The current implementation sets the wMaxPacketSize of bulk in/out
endpoints to 1024 bytes at the end of the f_midi_bind function. However,
in cases where there is a failure in the first midi bind attempt,
consider rebinding. This scenario may encounter an f_midi_bind issue due
to the previous bind setting the bulk endpoint's wMaxPacketSize to 1024
bytes, which exceeds the ep->maxpacket_limit where configured dwc3 TX/RX
FIFO's maxpacket size of 512 bytes for IN/OUT endpoints in support HS
speed only.
Here the term "rebind" in this context refers to attempting to bind the
MIDI function a second time in certain scenarios. The situations where
rebinding is considered include:
* When there is a failure in the first UDC write attempt, which may be
caused by other functions bind along with MIDI.
* Runtime composition change : Example : MIDI,ADB to MIDI. Or MIDI to
MIDI,ADB.
This commit addresses this issue by resetting the wMaxPacketSize before
endpoint claim. And here there is no need to reset all values in the usb
endpoint descriptor structure, as all members except wMaxPacketSize and
bEndpointAddress have predefined values.
This ensures that restores the endpoint to its expected configuration,
and preventing conflicts with value of ep->maxpacket_limit. It also
aligns with the approach used in other function drivers, which treat
endpoint descriptors as if they were full speed before endpoint claim.

vb2_ops callbacks as long as the lock field in vb2_queue is set.
Since the vb2_ops_wait_prepare/finish callbacks already rely on that field,
we can safely drop these callbacks.
This simplifies the code and this is a step towards the goal of deleting

Replace ternary (condition ? "enable" : "disable") syntax with helpers
from string_choices.h because:
1. Simple function call with one argument is easier to read. Ternary
operator has three arguments and with wrapping might lead to quite
long code.
2. Is slightly shorter thus also easier to read.
3. It brings uniformity in the text - same string.

This commit addresses an issue related to below kernel panic where
panic_on_warn is enabled. It is caused by the unnecessary use of WARN_ON
in functionsfs_bind, which easily leads to the following scenarios.
1.adb_write in adbd 2. UDC write via configfs
================= =====================
->usb_ffs_open_thread() ->UDC write
->open_functionfs() ->configfs_write_iter()
->adb_open() ->gadget_dev_desc_UDC_store()

->usb_add_function()
->open_functionfs() ->ffs_func_bind()
->adb_open() ->functionfs_bind()
<ffs->state !=FFS_ACTIVE>
The adb_open, adb_read, and adb_write operations are invoked from the
daemon, but trying to bind the function is a process that is invoked by
UDC write through configfs, which opens up the possibility of a race
condition between the two paths. In this race scenario, the kernel panic
occurs due to the WARN_ON from functionfs_bind when panic_on_warn is
enabled. This commit fixes the kernel panic by removing the unnecessary
WARN_ON.

Compressed formats generate content depending amount of data that is set
in the vb2 buffer by the payload_size. When streaming those formats it
is better to scatter that smaller data over all requests. This patch is
doing that by introducing the calculated req_payload_size which is
updated by each frame. It the uses this amount of data to fill the
isoc requests instead of the video->req_size.
For uncompressed formats it will not make a difference since the payload
size will be equal to the imagesize. Therefore the code will have no
effecta as req_payload_size will be equal to req_size.

This patch is removing the initial imprecise and limited calculation of
requests needed to be used from the queue_setup callback. It instead
introduces the uvc_video_prep_requests function which is called
immediately before the request allocation.
With the information of the usb frame interval length it is possible to
calculate the number of requests needed during one frame duration.
Based on the calculated number of requests and the imagesize we
calculate the actual size per request. This calculation has the benefit
that the frame data is equally distributed over all allocated requests.
When the req_size is not in the range for the actually configured
max_req_size configured for the overall bandwidth we fallback
to use the max_req_size instead.
Since this calculations are only important for isoc transfers we just
use max_request_size for bulk and skip it.
As video->req_size will be recalculated on every video_enable resetting
it to 0 is not necessary anymore.

We install an kthread with pfifo priority that is iterating over all
prepared requests and keeps the isoc queue busy. This way it will be
scheduled with the same priority as the interrupt handler.
As the kthread is triggered with video_enable it will immediately
queue some zero length requests into the hw if there is no buffer data
available. It also watches the level of needed zero length requests in
the hardware not to fall under the UVCG_REQ_MAX_ZERO_COUNT threshold.
This way we can drop the function uvc_video_ep_queue_initial_requests
entirely.
By using the kthread to do the actual request handling the interrupt
handler will not be running into the time consuming and eventually
locking work of actually enqueueing the requests back into its own
pipeline. This work can now even be scheduled on another cpu.

The complete handler will at least be called after 16 requests have
completed, but will still handle all finisher requests. Since we have
to maintain a costant filling in the isoc queue we ensure this by
adding zero length requests.
By counting the amount enqueued requests we can ensure that the queue is
never underrun and only need to get active if the queue is running
critical. This patch is setting 32 as the critical level, which
is twice the request amount that is needed to create interrupts.
To properly solve the amount of zero length requests that needs to
be held in the hardware after one interrupt needs to be measured
and depends on the runtime of the first enqueue run after the interrupt
triggered. For now we just use twice the amount of requests between an
interrupt.

no_llseek had been defined to NULL two years ago, in commit 868941b144
("fs: remove no_llseek")
To quote that commit,
At -rc1 we'll need do a mechanical removal of no_llseek -
git grep -l -w no_llseek | grep -v porting.rst | while read i; do
sed -i '/\<no_llseek\>/d' $i
done
would do it.
Unfortunately, that hadn't been done. Linus, could you do that now, so
that we could finally put that thing to rest? All instances are of the
form
.llseek = no_llseek,
so it's obviously safe.

The bInterfaceProtocol is hardcoded to USB_CDC_ACM_PROTO_AT_V25TER. This
will lead to problems with ModemManger which will gladly try to probe
that port as a modem if the gadget also has a network function.
ModemManager will try to send AT commands to the ACM port. Make the
bInterfaceProtocol configurable. For this, track the number of instances
and only allow write to the property if there are no intances (yet).
This will also set bFunctionProtocol to the same value, see commit

Since commit "6acba0345b68 usb:gadget:uvc Do not use worker thread to pump
isoc usb requests", pump work could only be queued in uvc_video_complete()
and uvc_v4l2_qbuf(). If VIDIOC_QBUF is executed before VIDIOC_STREAMON,
we can only depend on uvc_video_complete() to queue pump work. However,
this requires some free requests in req_ready list. If req_ready list is
empty all the time, pump work will never be queued and video datas will
never be pumped to usb controller. Actually, this situation could happen
when run uvc-gadget with static image:
$ ./uvc-gadget -i 1080p.jpg uvc.0
When capture image from this device, the user app will always block there.
The issue is uvc driver has queued video buffer before streamon, but the
req_ready list is empty all the time after streamon. This will queue pump
work in uvcg_video_enable() to fill some request to req_ready list so the
uvc device could work properly.

While supporting GET_REPORT is a mandatory request per the HID
specification the current implementation of the GET_REPORT request responds
to the USB Host with an empty reply of the request length. However, some
USB Hosts will request the contents of feature reports via the GET_REPORT
request. In addition, some proprietary HID 'protocols' will expect
different data, for the same report ID, to be to become available in the
feature report by sending a preceding SET_REPORT to the USB Device that
defines what data is to be presented when that feature report is
subsequently retrieved via GET_REPORT (with a very fast < 5ms turn around
between the SET_REPORT and the GET_REPORT).
There are two other patch sets already submitted for adding GET_REPORT
support. The first [1] allows for pre-priming a list of reports via IOCTLs
which then allows the USB Host to perform the request, with no further
userspace interaction possible during the GET_REPORT request. And another
[2] which allows for a single report to be setup by userspace via IOCTL,
which will be fetched and returned by the kernel for subsequent GET_REPORT
requests by the USB Host, also with no further userspace interaction
possible.
This patch, while loosely based on both the patch sets, differs by allowing
the option for userspace to respond to each GET_REPORT request by setting
up a poll to notify userspace that a new GET_REPORT request has arrived. To
support this, two extra IOCTLs are supplied. The first of which is used to
retrieve the report ID of the GET_REPORT request (in the case of having
non-zero report IDs in the HID descriptor). The second IOCTL allows for
storing report responses in a list for responding to requests.
The report responses are stored in a list (it will be either added if it
does not exist or updated if it exists already). A flag (userspace_req) can
be set to whether subsequent requests notify userspace or not.
Basic operation when a GET_REPORT request arrives from USB Host:
- If the report ID exists in the list and it is set for immediate return
(i.e. userspace_req == false) then response is sent immediately,
userspace is not notified
- The report ID does not exist, or exists but is set to notify userspace
(i.e. userspace_req == true) then notify userspace via poll:
- If userspace responds, and either adds or update the response in
the list and respond to the host with the contents
- If userspace does not respond within the fixed timeout (2500ms)
but the report has been set prevously, then send 'old' report
contents
- If userspace does not respond within the fixed timeout (2500ms)
and the report does not exist in the list then send an empty
report
Note that userspace could 'prime' the report list at any other time.
While this patch allows for flexibility in how the system responds to
requests, and therefore the HID 'protocols' that could be supported, a
drawback is the time it takes to service the requests and therefore the
maximum throughput that would be achievable. The USB HID Specification
v1.11 itself states that GET_REPORT is not intended for periodic data
polling, so this limitation is not severe.
Testing on an iMX8M Nano Ultra Lite with a heavy multi-core CPU loading
showed that userspace can typically respond to the GET_REPORT request
within 1200ms - which is well within the 5000ms most operating systems seem
to allow, and within the 2500ms set by this patch.

Add the ability for the USB FunctionFS (FFS) gadget driver to be able
to create Device Firmware Upgrade (DFU) functional descriptors. [1]
This patch allows implementation of DFU in userspace using the
FFS gadget. The DFU protocol uses the control pipe (ep0) for all
messaging so only the addition of the DFU functional descriptor
is needed in the kernel driver.
The DFU functional descriptor is written to the ep0 file along with
any other descriptors during FFS setup. DFU requires an interface
descriptor followed by the DFU functional descriptor.
This patch includes documentation of the added descriptor for DFU
and conversion of some existing documentation to kernel-doc format
so that it can be included in the generated docs.
An implementation of DFU 1.1 that implements just the runtime descriptor
using the FunctionFS gadget (with rebooting into u-boot for DFU mode)
has been tested on an i.MX8 Nano.
An implementation of DFU 1.1 that implements both runtime and DFU mode
using the FunctionFS gadget has been tested on Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+.
Note that for the best performance of firmware update file transfers, the
userspace program should respond as quick as possible to the setup packets.

Most writes to configfs handle an optional newline, but do not require
it. By using the number of bytes written as the limit for scnprintf()
it is guaranteed that the final character in the buffer will be

This commit fixes uvc gadget support on 32-bit platforms.
Commit 0df28607c5 ("usb: gadget: uvc: Generalise helper functions for
reuse") introduced a helper function __uvcg_iter_item_entries() to aid
with parsing lists of items on configfs attributes stores. This function
is a generalization of another very similar function, which used a
stack-allocated temporary buffer of fixed size for each item in the list
and used the sizeof() operator to check for potential buffer overruns.
The new function was changed to allocate the now variably sized temp
buffer on heap, but wasn't properly updated to also check for max buffer
size using the computed size instead of sizeof() operator.
As a result, the maximum item size was 7 (plus null terminator) on
64-bit platforms, and 3 on 32-bit ones. While 7 is accidentally just
barely enough, 3 is definitely too small for some of UVC configfs
attributes. For example, dwFrameInteval, specified in 100ns units,
usually has 6-digit item values, e.g. 166666 for 60fps.

FFS based applications can utilize the aio_cancel() callback to dequeue
pending USB requests submitted to the UDC. There is a scenario where the
FFS application issues an AIO cancel call, while the UDC is handling a
soft disconnect. For a DWC3 based implementation, the callstack looks
like the following:
DWC3 Gadget FFS Application
dwc3_gadget_soft_disconnect() ...
--> dwc3_stop_active_transfers()
--> dwc3_gadget_giveback(-ESHUTDOWN)
--> ffs_epfile_async_io_complete() ffs_aio_cancel()
--> usb_ep_free_request() --> usb_ep_dequeue()
There is currently no locking implemented between the AIO completion
handler and AIO cancel, so the issue occurs if the completion routine is
running in parallel to an AIO cancel call coming from the FFS application.
As the completion call frees the USB request (io_data->req) the FFS
application is also referencing it for the usb_ep_dequeue() call. This can
lead to accessing a stale/hanging pointer.
commit b566d38857 ("usb: gadget: f_fs: use io_data->status consistently")
relocated the usb_ep_free_request() into ffs_epfile_async_io_complete().
However, in order to properly implement locking to mitigate this issue, the
spinlock can't be added to ffs_epfile_async_io_complete(), as
usb_ep_dequeue() (if successfully dequeuing a USB request) will call the
function driver's completion handler in the same context. Hence, leading
into a deadlock.
Fix this issue by moving the usb_ep_free_request() back to
ffs_user_copy_worker(), and ensuring that it explicitly sets io_data->req
to NULL after freeing it within the ffs->eps_lock. This resolves the race
condition above, as the ffs_aio_cancel() routine will not continue
attempting to dequeue a request that has already been freed, or the
ffs_user_copy_work() not freeing the USB request until the AIO cancel is
done referencing it.
This fix depends on

When ncm function is working and then stop usb0 interface for link down,
eth_stop() is called. At this piont, accidentally if usb transport error
should happen in usb_ep_enable(), 'in_ep' and/or 'out_ep' may not be enabled.
After that, ncm_disable() is called to disable for ncm unbind
but gether_disconnect() is never called since 'in_ep' is not enabled.
As the result, ncm object is released in ncm unbind
but 'dev->port_usb' associated to 'ncm->port' is not NULL.
And when ncm bind again to recover netdev, ncm object is reallocated
but usb0 interface is already associated to previous released ncm object.
Therefore, once usb0 interface is up and eth_start_xmit() is called,

This patch addresses the issue by checking if 'ncm->netdev' is not NULL at
ncm_disable() to call gether_disconnect() to deassociate 'dev->port_usb'.
It's more reasonable to check 'ncm->netdev' to call gether_connect/disconnect
rather than check 'ncm->port.in_ep->enabled' since it might not be enabled
but the gether connection might be established.

Instead of bailing when fences have already been installed on the
DMABUF, wait for them (with a timeout) when doing a blocking operation.
This fixes the issue where userspace would submit a DMABUF with fences

work.

The size given to strscpy() is not consistent with the destination buffer
that is used. The size is related to 'driver' and the buffer is
'mixername'.
sizeof(card->mixername) is 80 and sizeof(card->driver) is 16, so in
theory this could lead to unneeded string truncation.
In practice, this is not the case because g_audio_setup() has only 2
callers. 'card_name' is either "UAC1_Gadget" or "UAC2_Gadget".
Anyway, using the correct size is cleaner and more future proof.
In order to be less verbose, use the new 2-argument version of strscpy()
which computes auto-magically the size of the destination.

The Apple CarLife iAP gadget has a descriptor in userspace with two
alternate settings. The host sends the set_alt request to configure
alt_setting 0 or 1, and this is verified by the subsequent get_alt
request.
This patch implements and sets the get_alt callback. Without the
get_alt callback, composite.c abruptly concludes the
USB_REQ_GET/SET_INTERFACE request, assuming only one alt setting
for the endpoint.
unlike the uvc and ncm, f_fs gadget is fully implemented in userspace,
and driver just reset the eps and generate the event. so no additional
adaptaion associated with this change is not required in set_alt callback

While connecting to a Linux host with CDC_NCM_NTB_DEF_SIZE_TX
set to 65536, it has been observed that we receive short packets,
which come at interval of 5-10 seconds sometimes and have block
length zero but still contain 1-2 valid datagrams present.
According to the NCM spec:
"If wBlockLength = 0x0000, the block is terminated by a
short packet. In this case, the USB transfer must still
be shorter than dwNtbInMaxSize or dwNtbOutMaxSize. If
exactly dwNtbInMaxSize or dwNtbOutMaxSize bytes are sent,
and the size is a multiple of wMaxPacketSize for the
given pipe, then no ZLP shall be sent.
wBlockLength= 0x0000 must be used with extreme care, because
of the possibility that the host and device may get out of
sync, and because of test issues.
wBlockLength = 0x0000 allows the sender to reduce latency by
starting to send a very large NTB, and then shortening it when
the sender discovers that there’s not sufficient data to justify
sending a large NTB"
However, there is a potential issue with the current implementation,
as it checks for the occurrence of multiple NTBs in a single
giveback by verifying if the leftover bytes to be processed is zero
or not. If the block length reads zero, we would process the same
NTB infintely because the leftover bytes is never zero and it leads
to a crash. Fix this by bailing out if block length reads zero.

It is observed sometimes when tethering is used over NCM with Windows 11
as host, at some instances, the gadget_giveback has one byte appended at
the end of a proper NTB. When the NTB is parsed, unwrap call looks for
any leftover bytes in SKB provided by u_ether and if there are any pending
bytes, it treats them as a separate NTB and parses it. But in case the
second NTB (as per unwrap call) is faulty/corrupt, all the datagrams that
were parsed properly in the first NTB and saved in rx_list are dropped.
Adding a few custom traces showed the following:
[002] d..1 7828.532866: dwc3_gadget_giveback: ep1out:
req 000000003868811a length 1025/16384 zsI ==> 0

[002] d..1 7828.532869: ncm_unwrap_ntb: K: Parsed NTB with 1 frames
In this case, the giveback is of 1025 bytes and block length is 1024.
The rest 1 byte (which is 0x00) won't be parsed resulting in drop of
all datagrams in rx_list.
Same is case with packets of size 2048:
[002] d..1 7828.557948: dwc3_gadget_giveback: ep1out:
req 0000000011dfd96e length 2049/16384 zsI ==> 0

According to Windows driver, no ZLP is needed if wBlockLength is non-zero,
because the non-zero wBlockLength has already told the function side the
size of transfer to be expected. However, there are in-market NCM devices
that rely on ZLP as long as the wBlockLength is multiple of wMaxPacketSize.
To deal with such devices, it pads an extra 0 at end so the transfer is no
longer multiple of wMaxPacketSize.

This patch introduces three new ioctls. They all should be called on a
data endpoint (ie. not ep0). They are:
- FUNCTIONFS_DMABUF_ATTACH, which takes the file descriptor of a DMABUF
object to attach to the endpoint.
- FUNCTIONFS_DMABUF_DETACH, which takes the file descriptor of the
DMABUF to detach from the endpoint. Note that closing the endpoint's
file descriptor will automatically detach all attached DMABUFs.
- FUNCTIONFS_DMABUF_TRANSFER, which requests a data transfer from / to
the given DMABUF. Its argument is a structure that packs the DMABUF's
file descriptor, the size in bytes to transfer (which should generally
be set to the size of the DMABUF), and a 'flags' field which is unused
for now.
Before this ioctl can be used, the related DMABUF must be attached
with FUNCTIONFS_DMABUF_ATTACH.
These three ioctls enable the FunctionFS code to transfer data between
the USB stack and a DMABUF object, which can be provided by a driver
from a completely different subsystem, in a zero-copy fashion.

When a USB gadget is configured through configfs with 1 or more f_fs
functions, then the logic setting up the gadget configuration has to wait
until the user space code (typically separate applications) responsible for
those functions have written their descriptors before the gadget can be
activated.
The f_fs instance already knows if this has been done, so expose it through
a "ready" attribute in configfs for easier synchronization.

When write UDC to empty and unbind gadget driver from gadget device, it is
possible that there are many queue failures for mass storage function.
The root cause is mass storage main thread alaways try to queue request to
receive a command from host if running flag is on, on platform like dwc3,
if pull down called, it will not queue request again and return
-ESHUTDOWN, but it not affect running flag of mass storage function.
Check return code from mass storage function and clear running flag if it

Recent commit [1] added support for changing max segment size of the NCM
interface via configfs. But the value of segment size value stored in
ncm_opts need to be converted to little endian before saving it in
ecm_desc. Also while initialising the value of segment size in opts during
instance allocation, the value ETH_FRAME_LEN needs to be assigned directly
without any conversion as ETH_FRAME_LEN and the variable max_segment_size
are native endian. The current implementaion modifies it into little endian
thus breaking things for big endian targets.
Fix endianness while assigning these variables.
While at it, fix up some stray spaces in comments added in code.

When handling error status from uvcg_video_usb_req_queue,
uvc_video_complete currently calls uvcg_queue_cancel with
video->req_lock held. uvcg_queue_cancel internally locks
queue->irqlock, which nests queue->irqlock inside
video->req_lock. This isn't a functional bug at the
moment, but does open up possibilities for ABBA
deadlocks in the future.
This patch fixes the accidental nesting by dropping
video->req_lock before calling uvcg_queue_cancel.

The root cause is that uvcg_video_usb_req_queue frees the uvc_request
if is_enabled is false and returns an error status. video_pump also
frees the associated request if uvcg_video_usb_req_queue returns an
error status, leading to double free and accessing garbage memory.
To fix the issue, this patch removes freeing logic from
uvcg_video_usb_req_queue, and lets the callers to the function handle
queueing errors as they see fit.

In 6.7-rc1, there was a netif_device_detach call added to the
gether_disconnect function. This clears the __LINK_STATE_PRESENT bit of
the netif device and suppresses pings (ICMP messages) and TCP connection
requests from the connected host. If userspace temporarily disconnects
the gadget, such as by temporarily removing configuration in the gadget
configfs interface, network activity should continue to be processed
when the gadget is re-connected. Mirror the netif_device_detach call
with a netif_device_attach call in gether_connect to fix re-connecting
gadgets.

The max segment size is currently limited to the ethernet frame length of
the kernel which happens to be 1514 at this point in time. However the NCM
specification limits it to 64K for sixtenn bit NTB's. For peer to peer
connections, increasing the segment size gives better throughput.
Add support to configure this value before configfs symlink is created.
Also since the NTB Out/In buffer sizes are fixed at 16384 bytes, limit the
segment size to an upper cap of 8000 to allow at least a minimum of 2 MTU
sized datagrams to be aggregated.
Set the default MTU size for the ncm interface during function bind before
network interface is registered allowing MTU to be set in parity with
wMaxSegmentSize.

commit 588b9e8560 ("usb: gadget: uvc: add v4l2 enumeration api calls")
has rendered the precomposed (aka legacy) webcam gadget unloadable.
uvc_alloc() since then has depended on certain config groups being
available in configfs tree related to the UVC function. However, legacy
gadgets do not create anything in configfs, so uvc_alloc() must fail
with -ENOENT no matter what.
This patch mimics the required configfs hierarchy to satisfy the code which
inspects formats and frames found in uvcg_streaming_header.
This has been tested with guvcview on the host side, using vivid as a
source of video stream on the device side and using the userspace program
found at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/camera/uvc-gadget.git.

This call to 'memcpy()' is interpreted as an attempt to copy both
'CompatibleID' and 'SubCompatibleID' of 'struct usb_ext_compat_desc'

Since we actually want to copy both of them at once, use the

There is a general misunderstanding amongst engineers that {v}snprintf()
returns the length of the data *actually* encoded into the destination

Since snprintf() has the documented, but still rather strange trait of
returning the length of the data that *would have been* written to the
array if space were available, rather than the arguably more useful
length of data *actually* written, it is usually considered wise to use
something else instead in order to avoid confusion.
In the case of sysfs call-backs, new wrappers exist that do just that.
This patch replaces just one use of snprintf() found in the sysfs
.show() call-back with the new sysfs_emit() helper.

When we use an async work queue to perform the function of pumping
usb requests to the usb controller, it is possible that amongst other
factors, thread scheduling affects at what cadence we're able to pump
requests. This could mean isoc usb requests miss their uframes - resulting
in video stream flickers on the host device.
To avoid this, we make the async_wq thread only produce isoc usb_requests
with uvc buffers encoded into them. The process of queueing to the
endpoint is done by the uvc_video_complete() handler. In case no
usb_requests are ready with encoded information, we just queue a zero
length request to the endpoint from the complete handler.
For bulk endpoints the async_wq thread still queues usb requests to the
endpoint.

Currently, the uvc gadget driver allocates all uvc_requests as one array
and deallocates them all when the video stream stops. This includes
de-allocating all the usb_requests associated with those uvc_requests.
This can lead to use-after-free issues if any of those de-allocated
usb_requests were still owned by the usb controller.
This is patch 2 of 2 in fixing the use-after-free issue. It adds a new
flag to uvc_video to track when frames and requests should be flowing.
When disabling the video stream, the flag is tripped and, instead
of de-allocating all uvc_requests and usb_requests, the gadget
driver only de-allocates those usb_requests that are currently
owned by it (as present in req_free). Other usb_requests are left
untouched until their completion handler is called which takes care
of freeing the usb_request and its corresponding uvc_request.
Now that uvc_video does not depends on uvc->state, this patch removes
unnecessary upates to uvc->state that were made to accommodate uvc_video
logic. This should ensure that uvc gadget driver never accidentally
de-allocates a usb_request that it doesn't own.

Currently the set_alt callback immediately disables the endpoint and queues
the v4l2 streamoff event. However, as the streamoff event is processed
asynchronously, it is possible that the video_pump thread attempts to queue
requests to an already disabled endpoint.
This change moves disabling usb endpoint to the end of streamoff event
callback. As the endpoint's state can no longer be used, video_pump is
now guarded by uvc->state as well. To be consistent with the actual
streaming state, uvc->state is now toggled between CONNECTED and STREAMING
from the v4l2 event callback only.

strlcpy() reads the entire source buffer first. This read may exceed
the destination size limit. This is both inefficient and can lead
to linear read overflows if a source string is not NUL-terminated[1].
Additionally, it returns the size of the source string, not the
resulting size of the destination string. In an effort to remove strlcpy()
completely[2], replace strlcpy() here with strscpy().
In the unlikely (impossible?) case where opts->id was larger than
PAGE_SIZE, this will now correctly report truncation errors.

Nothing really major in here, just lots of constant development for new
hardware. Included in here are:
- Thunderbolt (i.e. USB4) fixes for reported issues and support for
new hardware types and devices
- USB typec additions of new drivers and cleanups for some existing
ones
- xhci cleanups and expanded tracing support and some platform
specific updates
- USB "La Jolla Cove Adapter (LJCA)" support added, and the gpio, spi,
and i2c drivers for that type of device (all acked by the respective
subsystem maintainers.)
- lots of USB gadget driver updates and cleanups
- new USB dwc3 platforms supported, as well as other dwc3 fixes and
cleanups
- USB chipidea driver updates
- other smaller driver cleanups and additions, full details in the

All of these have been in the linux-next tree for a while with no
reported problems, EXCEPT for some merge conflicts that you will run
into in your tree. 2 of them are in device-tree files, which will be
trivial to resolve (accept both sides), and the last in the
drivers/gpio/gpio-ljca.c file, in the remove callback, resolution should
be pretty trivial (take the version in this branch), see here:

scsi_debug) plus the usual assorted minor fixes and updates. The
major change this time around is a prep patch for rethreading of the
driver reset handler API not to take a scsi_cmd structure which starts
to reduce various drivers' dependence on scsi_cmd in error handling.

robust.
It does not contain the switch of the time fields to discrete 64 bit
integers to replace struct timespec and free up space in struct inode.
But after this, the switch can be trivially made and the patch should
only affect the vfs if we decide to do it"

Previously, gadget assignment to the net device occurred exclusively
during the initial binding attempt.
Nevertheless, the gadget pointer could change during bind/unbind
cycles due to various conditions, including the unloading/loading
of the UDC device driver or the detachment/reconnection of an
OTG-capable USB hub device.
This patch relocates the gether_set_gadget() function out from
ncm_opts->bound condition check, ensuring that the correct gadget
is assigned during each bind request.
The provided logs demonstrate the consistency of ncm_opts throughout
the power cycle, while the gadget may change.

In some cases, like with multiple LUN targets or where the target has to
respond to transport level requests from the receiving context it can be
better to defer cmd submission to a helper thread. If the backend driver
blocks on something like request/tag allocation it can block the entire
target submission path and other LUs and transport IO on that session.
In other cases like single LUN targets with storage that can support all
the commands that the target can queue, then it's best to submit the cmd
to the backend from the target's cmd receiving context.
Subsequent commits will allow the user to config what they prefer, but
drivers like loop can't directly submit because they can be called from a
context that can't sleep. And, drivers like vhost-scsi can support direct
submission, but need to keep their default behavior of deferring execution
to avoid possible regressions where the backend can block.
Make the drivers tell LIO core if they support direct submissions and their
current default, so we can prevent users from misconfiguring the system and
initialize devices correctly.

This patch replaces the usage of netif_stop_queue with netif_device_detach
in the u_ether driver. The netif_device_detach function not only stops all
tx queues by calling netif_tx_stop_all_queues but also marks the device as
removed by clearing the __LINK_STATE_PRESENT bit.
This change helps notify user space about the disconnection of the device
more effectively, compared to netif_stop_queue, which only stops a single
transmit queue.

Add "c_terminal_type" and "p_terminal_type" configfs entries
in order to allow the user to change the capture and playback terminal
type codes.
These fields affect the type of audio device that Windows detects, so
being able to modify this is useful when it would be advantageous for
a gadget to be detected as something other than a generic
speaker/microphone.
The fields default to microphone for the capture type field and speaker
for the playback type field as was the case before.

Prepare for the coming implementation by GCC and Clang of the __counted_by
attribute. Flexible array members annotated with __counted_by can have
their accesses bounds-checked at run-time checking via CONFIG_UBSAN_BOUNDS
(for array indexing) and CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE (for strcpy/memcpy-family
functions).
As found with Coccinelle[1], add __counted_by for struct f_midi.
Additionally, since the element count member must be set before accessing
the annotated flexible array member, move its initialization earlier.

The uvc_video_enable function is calling cancel_work_sync which will be
blocking as long as new requests will be queued with the while loop. To
ensure an earlier stop in the pumping loop in this particular case we
rework the worker to requeue itself on every requests. Since the worker
is already running prioritized, the scheduling overhad did not have real
impact on the performance.

The uvc_video_enable function of the uvc-gadget driver is dequeing and
immediately deallocs all requests on its disable codepath. This is not
save since the dequeue function is async and does not ensure that the
requests are left unlinked in the controller driver.
By adding the ep_free_request into the completion path of the requests
we ensure that the request will be properly deallocated.

When NCM is used with hosts like Windows PC, it is observed that there are
multiple NTB's contained in one usb request giveback. Since the driver
unwraps the obtained request data assuming only one NTB is present, we
loose the subsequent NTB's present resulting in data loss.
Fix this by checking the parsed block length with the obtained data
length in usb request and continue parsing after the last byte of current
NTB.

Take ecm_bind() for example, it call gadget_is_{*}speed() API to show
gadget max support speed, it is not much help, remove the API usage here
is safe.
Similar change apply to acm,eem,loopback,ncm,obex,rndis,serial,
sourcesink,subset functions.

Take f_midi_bind() for example, when composite layer call it, it will
allocate hs descriptor by calling gadget_is_dualspeed() API to check
gadget max support speed capability, but most other gadget function didn't
do like this.
To follow other function drivers, it is safe to remove the check which
mean support all possible link speed by default in function driver.
Similar change apply to midi2 and uvc.
Also in midi and midi2, as there is no descriptor difference between
super speed and super speed plus, follow other gadget function drivers,
do not allocate descriptor for super speed plus, composite layer will
handle it properly.

when call uvc_function_bind(), gadget still have no connection speed,
just follow other gadget function, use fs endpoint descriptor to allocate
a video endpoint, remove gadget_is_{super|dual}speed() API call.

In function ecm_bitrate(), it is not support report bit rate for super
speed plus mode, but it can use same bit rate value defined in ncm and
rndis.
Add a common inline function gether_bitrate() which report different for
all possible speeds, it can be used by ecm, ncm and rndis, also remove
old function from them.

Take ecm_bitrate() as example, it will be called after gadget device
link speed negotiation, consider code
if (gadget_is_superspeed(g) && g->speed == USB_SPEED_SUPER),
if a gadget device link speed is USB_SPEED_SUPER,
gadget_is_superspeed(g) must be true, or not it is a wrong
configuration of gadget max support speed.
Remove gadget_is_superspeed(g) checking should be safe, and remove other
similar operation in ncm, rndis, u_ether.

This patch allows users to set up MIDI 1.0 ports more flexibly.
Namely, instead of the fixed mapping only from FB 0, now multiple
block definitions are applied to build up the MIDI 1.0 mapping.
The each block config has midi1_first_group and midi1_num_groups
attributes, and those specify which Groups are used for MIDI 1.0.
Those fields must be within the UMP Groups defined in the block
itself.

Add a new ALSA control element to watch the current operation mode
(MIDI 1.0 or MIDI 2.0). It's a read-only control that reflects the
current value of altsetting, and 0 means unused, 1 for MIDI 1.0
(altset 0) and 2 for MIDI 2.0 (altset 1).

This patch extends MIDI 2.0 function driver to add more proper support
for MIDI 1.0 interface. Before this patch, the driver only exposes
the USB descriptor of a MIDI 1.0 interface in altset 0 while no actual
I/O is running for it. This patch enables the actual I/O for the
altset 0; the backend UMP rawmidi is translated from/to the MIDI 1.0
USB commands.
For converting to USB MIDI 1.0 data protocol, a helper function is
copied from the existing f_midi driver, in addition to a few other UMP
Core helper functions. For the MIDI 1.0 OUT (that is, input for
gadget), the incoming USB MIDI 1.0 packet is translated to UMP packets
via UMP Core helper, and tossed to the attached UMP rawmidi. It's a
relatively straightforward. OTOH, for MIDI 1.0 IN (i.e. output for
gadget), it's a bit more complex: we need to convert a source UMP
packet once to the standard MIDI 1.0 byte stream, and convert it again
to USB MIDI 1.0 packets, then send them out.
