On platforms where the HID2 SPI controller (AMDI0063) is enumerated via
ACPI instead of PCI, amd_spi_probe() unconditionally sets bus_num to 0,
while the PCI probe path assigns bus_num 2 for HID2 controller.
Align the ACPI probe path to use the same bus number so that userspace
and SPI client drivers see a consistent bus assignment regardless of the
enumeration method.

aml_spisg_setup_transfer() takes a non-NULL exdesc pointer; the
function dereferences exdesc unconditionally later in the body to
populate the SPI scatter-gather descriptors (tx_ccsg / rx_ccsg).
The sole caller, aml_spisg_transfer_one_message(), always passes a
valid pointer derived from kcalloc().
The "if (exdesc)" guard around the memset() at the start of the
function is therefore dead and misleading -- it suggests callers
may pass NULL when in fact they may not. smatch flags the
inconsistency:
drivers/spi/spi-amlogic-spisg.c:314 aml_spisg_setup_transfer()
error: we previously assumed 'exdesc' could be null (see line 261)
Drop the check; the unconditional memset matches the unconditional
dereferences elsewhere in the function and removes the inconsistency
that smatch reports.

The .driver_data member of the various struct pci_device_id arrays were
initialized by list expressions. This isn't easily readable if you're
not into PCI. Using named initializers is more explicit and thus easier
to parse. Also skip explicit assignments of 0 (which the compiler then
takes care of).

The core will deal with reads by creating clock cycles itself, there's
no need to generate clock cycles by transmitting garbage data at the
driver level. Further, transmitting garbage data just bricks the transfer
since QSPI doesn't have a dedicated master-out line like MOSI in regular
SPI. I'm not entirely sure if the transfer is bricked because of the
garbage data being transmitted on the bus or because the core loses
track of whether it is supposed to be sending or receiving data.

The coreQSPI IP supports only a single chip select, which is
automagically operated by the hardware - set low when the transmit
buffer first gets written to and set high when the number of bytes
written to the TOTALBYTES field of the FRAMES register have been sent on
the bus. Additional devices must use GPIOs for their chip selects.
It was reported to me that if there are two devices attached to this
QSPI controller that the in-built chip select is set low while linux
tries to access the device attached to the GPIO.
This went undetected as the boards that connected multiple devices to
the SPI controller all exclusively used GPIOs for chip selects, not
relying on the built-in chip select at all. It turns out that this was
because the built-in chip select, when controlled automagically, is set
low when active and high when inactive, thereby ruling out its use for
active-high devices or devices that need to transmit with the chip
select disabled.
Modify the driver so that it controls chip select directly, retaining
the behaviour for mem_ops of setting the chip select active for the
entire duration of the transfer in the exec_op callback. For regular
transfers, implement the set_cs callback for the core to use.
As part of this, the existing setup callback, mchp_coreqspi_setup_op(),
is removed. Modifying the CLKIDLE field is not safe to do during
operation when there are multiple devices, so this code is removed
entirely. Setting the MASTER and ENABLE fields is something that can be
done once at probe, it doesn't need to be re-run for each device.
Instead the new setup callback sets the built-in chip select to its
inactive state for active-low devices, as the reset value of the chip
select in software controlled mode is low.

spi_imx_setupxfer() calls the per-variant prepare_transfer()
callback and returns 0 unconditionally:
spi_imx->devtype_data->prepare_transfer(spi_imx, spi, t);
return 0;
mx51_ecspi_prepare_transfer() can return -EINVAL when the requested
word_delay does not fit in MX51_ECSPI_PERIOD_MASK. The error is
detected after a partial set of register writes (CTRL: BL, clkdiv,
SMC), so the controller is left in a partially-configured state and
the transfer is then submitted as if setup succeeded.
Propagate the return value. The other variants' prepare_transfer
callbacks all return 0, so this is a no-op for them.

When transfer->len exceeds MX51_ECSPI_CTRL_MAX_BURST and is not a
multiple of it, spi_imx_dma_data_prepare() splits the transfer into
two DMA packages. If preparing the second package fails:
ret = spi_imx_dma_tx_data_handle(spi_imx, &spi_imx->dma_data[1],
transfer->tx_buf + spi_imx->dma_data[0].data_len,
false);
if (ret) {

kfree(spi_imx->dma_data[0].dma_rx_buf);
kfree(spi_imx->dma_data);
}
}
return 0;
the function frees the package-0 buffers and the dma_data array,
then falls through to `return 0`, telling the caller the prepare
succeeded. The caller then dereferences the freed dma_data array,
producing a use-after-free.
Return the error from the failure path so the caller takes its
existing failure branch.

The watermark search in spi_imx_dma_max_wml_find() reads:
if (!dma_data->dma_len % (i * bytes_per_word))
break;
The unary ! binds tighter than %, so this parses as:
if ((!dma_data->dma_len) % (i * bytes_per_word))
break;
!dma_data->dma_len is 0 or 1, and `0 % x == 0` for any x; `1 % x` is
0 unless x == 1. The condition is therefore false in every case
except dma_len != 0 with i * bytes_per_word == 1, i.e. i == 1 and
bytes_per_word == 1.
The loop almost always falls through to its end, leaving i == 0,
which the post-loop fallback rewrites to 1:
if (i == 0)
i = 1;
So spi_imx->wml ends up at 1 for essentially every DMA transfer,
defeating the entire purpose of the function. The DMA engine then
requests service after every single FIFO word instead of using
multi-word bursts, hurting throughput on every DMA-capable variant.
Add the missing parentheses so the modulo is computed first, then
negated:
if (!(dma_data->dma_len % (i * bytes_per_word)))
break;

The runtime PM functions had incomplete error handling that could leave the
system in an inconsistent state. If any operation failed midway through
suspend or resume, some resources would be left in the wrong state while
others were already changed, leading to potential clock/power imbalances.
Reorder the suspend/resume sequences to avoid brownout risk by ensuring the
performance state is set appropriately before clocks are enabled and clocks
are disabled before dropping the performance state.
Fix by adding proper error checking for all operations and using goto-based
cleanup to ensure all successfully acquired resources are properly released
on any error.

In some situations, direct mappings may need to use different
operation templates.
For instance, when enabling continuous reads, Winbond SPI NANDs no
longer expect address cycles because they would be ignoring them
otherwise. Hence, right after the command opcode, they start counting
dummy cycles, followed by the data cycles as usual.
This breaks the assumptions of "reads from cache" always being done
identically once the best variant has been picked up, across the
lifetime of the system.
In order to support this feature, we must give direct mapping more than
a single operation template to use, in order to switch to using
secondary operations upon request by the upper layer.
Create the concept of optional secondary operation template, which may
or may not be fulfilled by the SPI NAND and SPI NOR cores. If the
underlying SPI controller does not leverage any kind of direct mapping
acceleration, the feature has no impact and can be freely
used. Otherwise, the controller driver needs to opt-in for using this
feature, if supported.
The condition checked to know whether a secondary operation has been
provided or not is to look for a non zero opcode to limit the creation
of extra variables. In practice, the opcode 0x00 exist, but is not
related to any cache related operation.

As of now, we only use a single operation template when creating SPI
memory direct mappings. With the idea to extend this possibility to 2,
rename the template to reflect that we are currently setting the
"primary" operation, and create a pointer in the same structure to point
to it.
From a user point of view, the op_tmpl name remains but becomes a
pointer, leading to minor changes in both the SPI NAND and SPI NOR
cores.

When prepare_message callbacks fail, the SPI core already reports which
controller the failure happened on. The corresponding code in the mem_ops
portion of the driver already reports the device a timeout occurred on,
so make the regular part of the driver do the same.

Two CTRLR0 macros are defined but never referenced, and both are wrong:
- CR0_XFM_MASK shifts by SPI_XFM_OFFSET, which does not exist anywhere
in the tree. The intended symbol is CR0_XFM_OFFSET.
- CR0_MTM_OFFSET is defined as 0x21, i.e. bit 33 of a 32-bit register.

rockchip_spi_isr() decides whether the current interrupt was the
cs-inactive event by reading IMR:
if (rs->cs_inactive &&
readl_relaxed(rs->regs + ROCKCHIP_SPI_IMR) & INT_CS_INACTIVE)
ctlr->target_abort(ctlr);
IMR is the interrupt mask register: it tells which sources are enabled,
not which one fired. In the PIO path, rockchip_spi_prepare_irq() enables
both INT_RF_FULL and INT_CS_INACTIVE in IMR when rs->cs_inactive is true:
if (rs->cs_inactive)
writel_relaxed(INT_RF_FULL | INT_CS_INACTIVE,
rs->regs + ROCKCHIP_SPI_IMR);
so the IMR check is always true once cs_inactive is enabled, and every
PIO interrupt - including normal RF_FULL completions - is dispatched to
ctlr->target_abort(), aborting the transfer. The bug is reachable on
ROCKCHIP_SPI_VER2_TYPE2 in target mode with a DMA-capable controller
when the transfer is short enough to fall back to PIO
(rockchip_spi_can_dma() returns false below fifo_len).
Read ISR (which is RISR masked by IMR) so the check actually reflects
which interrupt fired, and parenthesise the expression for clarity while
at it.

The driver is relying on the assumption that the invalid interrupt 0 can
be freed without any side effects, but that is not the case on
architectures like x86 where it would trigger a warning about freeing an
already free interrupt.
This should not cause any trouble on powerpc where this driver is used,
but make the code more portable (and obviously correct) by making sure
that the interrupts have been requested before freeing them.

rzv2h_rspi_setup_clock() is declared to return u32 but returns -EINVAL
when no valid clock parameters are found. Cast to u32, -EINVAL becomes
0xffffffea, which is a non-zero value. The caller in
rzv2h_rspi_prepare_message() guards against failure with:
rspi->freq = rzv2h_rspi_setup_clock(rspi, speed_hz);
if (!rspi->freq)
return -EINVAL;
Because 0xffffffea is non-zero, the check is bypassed and the controller
proceeds to program SPBR/SPCMD with stale values, leading to an unknown
bit rate.
Return 0 on the failed-search path, consistent with the existing
clk_set_rate() failure path which already returns 0.

This is quite a big set of fixes, almost all from Johan Hovold who is on
an ongoing quest to clean up issues with probe and removal handling in
drivers. There isn't anything too concerning here especially with the
deregistration stuff which will very rarely get run in production
systems since this is all platform devices in the SoC on embedded
hardware, but it's all real issues which should be fixed. There's more
in flight here.
We also have a few other minor fixes, one from Felix Gu along the same
lines as Johan's work and a couple of documentation things.

- Fix printf format warning for bprintf
sunrpc uses a trace_printk() that triggers a printf warning during the
compile. Move the __printf() attribute around for when debugging is not
enabled the warning will go away.
- Remove redundant check for EVENT_FILE_FL_FREED in event_filter_write()
The FREED flag is checked in the call to event_file_file() and then
checked again right afterward, which is unneeded.
- Clean up event_file_file() and event_file_data() helpers
These helper functions played a different role in the past, but now with
eventfs, the READ_ONCE() isn't needed. Simplify the code a bit and also
add a warning to event_file_data() if the file or its data is not present.
- Remove updating file->private_data in tracing open
All access to the file private data is handled by the helper functions,
which do not use file->private_data. Stop updating it on open.
- Show ENUM names in function arguments via BTF in function tracing
When showing the function arguments when func-args option is set for
function tracing, if one of the arguments is found to be an enum, show the
name of the enum instead of its number.
- Add new trace_call__##name() API for tracepoints
Tracepoints are enabled via static_branch() blocks, where when not
enabled, there's only a nop that is in the code where the execution will
just skip over it. When tracing is enabled, the nop is converted to a
direct jump to the tracepoint code. Sometimes more calculations are
required to be performed to update the parameters of the tracepoint. In
this case, trace_##name##_enabled() is called which is a static_branch()
that gets enabled only when the tracepoint is enabled. This allows the
extra calculations to also be skipped by the nop:
if (trace_foo_enabled()) {
x = bar();
trace_foo(x);
}
Where the x=bar() is only performed when foo is enabled. The problem with
this approach is that there's now two static_branch() calls. One for
checking if the tracepoint is enabled, and then again to know if the
tracepoint should be called. The second one is redundant.
Introduce trace_call__foo() that will call the foo() tracepoint directly
without doing a static_branch():
if (trace_foo_enabled()) {
x = bar();
trace_call__foo();
}
- Update various locations to use the new trace_call__##name() API
- Move snapshot code out of trace.c
Cleaning up trace.c to not be a "dump all", move the snapshot code out of
it and into a new trace_snapshot.c file.
- Clean up some "%*.s" to "%*s"
- Allow boot kernel command line options to be called multiple times
Have options like:
ftrace_filter=foo ftrace_filter=bar ftrace_filter=zoo
Equal to:
ftrace_filter=foo,bar,zoo
- Fix ipi_raise event CPU field to be a CPU field
The ipi_raise target_cpus field is defined as a __bitmask(). There is now a
__cpumask() field definition. Update the field to use that.
- Have hist_field_name() use a snprintf() and not a series of strcat()
It's safer to use snprintf() that a series of strcat().
- Fix tracepoint regfunc balancing
A tracepoint can define a "reg" and "unreg" function that gets called
before the tracepoint is enabled, and after it is disabled respectively.
But on error, after the "reg" func is called and the tracepoint is not
enabled, the "unreg" function is not called to tear down what the "reg"
function performed.
- Fix output that shows what histograms are enabled
Event variables are displayed incorrectly in the histogram output.
Instead of "sched.sched_wakeup.$var", it is showing
"$sched.sched_wakeup.var" where the '$' is in the incorrect location.
- Some other simple cleanups.

ftrace_filter=foo ftrace_filter=bar ftrace_filter=zoo
Equal to:
ftrace_filter=foo,bar,zoo
- Fix ipi_raise event CPU field to be a CPU field
The ipi_raise target_cpus field is defined as a __bitmask(). There is
now a __cpumask() field definition. Update the field to use that
- Have hist_field_name() use a snprintf() and not a series of strcat()
It's safer to use snprintf() that a series of strcat()
- Fix tracepoint regfunc balancing
A tracepoint can define a "reg" and "unreg" function that gets called
before the tracepoint is enabled, and after it is disabled
respectively. But on error, after the "reg" func is called and the
tracepoint is not enabled, the "unreg" function is not called to tear
down what the "reg" function performed
- Fix output that shows what histograms are enabled
Event variables are displayed incorrectly in the histogram output
Instead of "sched.sched_wakeup.$var", it is showing
"$sched.sched_wakeup.var" where the '$' is in the incorrect location
- Some other simple cleanups

A busy release for SPI, almost all of it in a couple of larger fix and
cleanup serieses for patterns that affected many drivers. We do have
a couple of core API additions as well, relatively application specific
but they enable some new use cases.
- A packed command operation for spi-mem devices.
- Improvements to the ancillary device support to enable some IIO use
cases from Antoniu Miclaus.
- Fixes for a registration ordering issue pattern caused by the
handover between allocation and registration of controllers in
concert with devm from Johan Hovold.
- Improvements to handling of clock allocation from Pei Xiao.
- Cleanups in the fsl-lpspi driver from Marc Kleine-Budde.
- Support for Renesas RZ/G3E and RZ/G3L.

I got mislead while analyzing the driver by the fact that the second
opcode byte was in all cases smashed:
if (op->cmd.dtr)
opcode = op->cmd.opcode >> 8;
else
opcode = op->cmd.opcode;
While at a first glance this doesn't let a chance to the second byte to
be shifted out on the bus, this is actually the second step of an
initialization, where the byte being apparently "ignored" in DTR mode
has already been written in a dedicated "extended opcode" register. As
such, the comment and the extra check that I proposed were entirely
wrong, remove them.

Johan Hovold <johan@kernel.org> says:
Device managed registration generally only works if all involved
resources are managed as otherwise resources may be disabled or freed
while they are still in use.
This series fixes the SPI controller drivers that get this wrong by
disabling resources such as clocks, DMA and interrupts while the
controller (and its devices) are still registered, which can lead to
issues like system errors due to unclocked accesses, NULL-pointer
dereferences, hangs or just prevent SPI device drivers from doing I/O
during during deregistration (e.g. to power down devices).
I decided to split these fixes in two parts consisting of 20 and 26
patches respectively in order not to spam the lists too much.
I've also prepared a follow-on series to convert the drivers here that
do not yet use device managed controller allocation (which avoids taking
extra references during deregistration).
After that it should be possible to change the SPI API so that it no
longer drops a reference during deregistration without too much effort
(cf. [1]).
Note that this series is based on spi/for-next which specifically has
commit 1f8fd9490e ("spi: zynq-qspi: Simplify clock handling with
devm_clk_get_enabled()") (which is not in the for-7.1 branch).

The WARN_ON_ONCE/WARN_ON fired unconditionally on any completion
timeout, including the recoverable case where the interrupt was lost but
the hardware actually finished the transfer. This produced a noisy splat
with a full call trace even though the driver successfully recovered via
tegra_qspi_handle_timeout().
Since tegra210 uses threaded interrupts, the transfer completion can be
signaled before the interrupt fires, making this false positive case
common in practice.
Almost all the hosts I sysadmin in my fleet produce the following splat:
WARNING: CPU: 47 PID: 844 at drivers/spi/spi-tegra210-quad.c:1226 tegra_qspi_transfer_one_message+0x8a4/0xba8
....
tegra-qspi NVDA1513:00: QSPI interrupt timeout, but transfer complete
Move WARN_ON_ONCE/WARN_ON to fire only on real unrecoverable timeouts,
i.e., when tegra_qspi_handle_timeout() confirms the hardware did NOT
complete. This makes the warning actionable instead of just polluting
the metrics.

Prabhakar <prabhakar.csengg@gmail.com> says:
This patch series addresses three issues in the RZV2H RSPI driver:
1. The max_speed_hz field was advertising a prohibited bit rate, which
could lead to incorrect behavior when userspace applications attempt
to set the SPI clock speed.
2. The clock configuration logic allowed for an invalid combination of
SPR=0 and BRDV=0, which is not supported by the hardware.
3. Simplified the clock rate search function as min/max speed parameters
are not needed.
Note, patches apply on top of next-20260409.
The spr_min and spr_max parameters passed to
rzv2h_rspi_find_rate_variable() and rzv2h_rspi_find_rate_fixed() were
always called with RSPI_SPBR_SPR_MIN and RSPI_SPBR_SPR_MAX respectively.
There is no need to pass these as parameters since the valid SPR range
is fixed by the hardware.

The combination of SPR=0 and BRDV=0 results in the minimum division
ratio of 2, producing the maximum possible bit rate for a given clock
source. This combination is not supported in two cases:
- On RZ/G3E, RZ/G3L, RZ/V2H(P) and RZ/V2N, RSPI_n_TCLK is fixed at
200MHz, which would yield 100Mbps. The next hardware manual update
will explicitly state that since the maximum frequency of the
RSPICKn clock signal is 50MHz, settings with N=0 and n=0 resulting
in 100Mbps are prohibited.
- On RZ/T2H and RZ/N2H, when PCLK (125MHz) is used as the clock
source, SPR=0 and BRDV=0 is explicitly listed as unsupported in
the hardware manual (Table 36.7).
Skip the SPR=0/BRDV=0 combination in rzv2h_rspi_find_rate_fixed() to
prevent the driver from selecting an invalid clock configuration on the
affected SoCs.
Additionally, remove the now redundant RSPI_SPBR_SPR_PCLK_MIN define
which was previously set to 1 to work around the PCLK restriction, but
was overly broad as it incorrectly blocked valid combinations such as
SPR=0/BRDV=1 (31.25Mbps on PCLK=125MHz).

On RZ/V2H(P), RZ/G3E and RZ/G3L, RSPI_n_TCLK is fixed at 200MHz.
The max_speed_hz was computed using clk_round_rate(tclk, ULONG_MAX)
with SPR=0 and BRDV=0, resulting in 100Mbps - the exact combination
prohibited on these SoCs. This could cause the SPI framework to request
a speed that rzv2h_rspi_find_rate_fixed() would skip, potentially
leading to a clock selection failure.
On RZ/T2H and RZ/N2H the max_speed_hz was correctly calculated as
50Mbps for both the variable PCLKSPIn and fixed PCLK clock sources.
Since the maximum supported bit rate is 50Mbps across all supported SoC
variants, replace the clk_round_rate() based calculation with a define
RSPI_MAX_SPEED_HZ set to 50MHz and use it directly for max_speed_hz.

fsl_lpspi_setup_transfer() is either called via:
| fsl_lpspi_prepare_message()
| -> fsl_lpspi_setup_transfer()
or
| -> spi_transfer_one_message()
| -> controller->transfer_one == fsl_lpspi_transfer_one()
| -> fsl_lpspi_setup_transfer()
The first call path already has a spi_transfer NULL pointer check, the
second one explicitly iterates over all spi_transfer of the spi_message.
Simplify the code by removing the useless NULL pointer check.

Commit 7ae4d097b7 ("spi: spi-fsl-lpspi: Handle clock polarity and phase")
enhances the driver with clock polarity and phase handling.
Among other things that commit in fsl_lpspi_set_cmd() explicitly set the
bits TCR_CPOL and TCR_CPHA bits in the TCR register depending on their
corresponding bits in the SPI mode (SPI_CPOL and SPI_CPHA), to configure
clock polarity and phase.
That change made the assignment of the lowest 2 bits of lpspi_config::mode
shifted by << 30 to the TCR register obsolete. The lowest 2 bits of struct
lpspi_config::mode (= SPI_CPOL and SPI_CPHA) match the corresponding bits
in the TCR register (TCR_CPOL and TCR_CPHA) if shifted.
Keep the better readable and maintainable version provided in commit
7ae4d097b7 ("spi: spi-fsl-lpspi: Handle clock polarity and phase") and
remove the obfuscated version.

Commit 7ae4d097b7 ("spi: spi-fsl-lpspi: Handle clock polarity and phase")
enhances the driver with clock polarity and phase handling. That commit
adds a 2nd argument ("struct spi_device *spi") to the fsl_lpspi_set_cmd()
function.
The "spi" pointer is used to access the "mode" of the current transfer.
However the mode is already available via "fsl_lpspi->config.mode".
To simplify the driver remove the 2nd argument and use
"fsl_lpspi->config.mode" to access the mode.

USB drivers bind to USB interfaces and any device managed resources
should have their lifetime tied to the interface rather than parent USB
device. This avoids issues like memory leaks when drivers are unbound
without their devices being physically disconnected (e.g. on probe
deferral or configuration changes).
Fix the controller and driver data lifetime so that they are released
on driver unbind.
Note that this also makes sure that the SPI controller is placed

In various places in the kernel, we modify the fwnode "flags" member
by doing either:
fwnode->flags |= SOME_FLAG;
fwnode->flags &= ~SOME_FLAG;
This type of modification is not thread-safe. If two threads are both
mucking with the flags at the same time then one can clobber the
other.
While flags are often modified while under the "fwnode_link_lock",
this is not universally true.
Create some accessor functions for setting, clearing, and testing the
FWNODE flags and move all users to these accessor functions. New
accessor functions use set_bit() and clear_bit(), which are
thread-safe.

The SPI API is asymmetric and the controller is freed as part of
deregistration (unless it has been allocated using
devm_spi_alloc_host/target()).
A recent change converting the managed registration function to use
devm_add_action_or_reset() inadvertently introduced a (mostly
theoretical) regression where a non-devres managed controller could be
freed as part of failed registration. This in turn would lead to
use-after-free in controller driver error paths.
Fix this by taking another reference before calling
devm_add_action_or_reset() and not releasing it on errors for
non-devres allocated controllers.
An alternative would be a partial revert of the offending commit, but
it is better to handle this explicitly until the API has been fixed
(e.g. see 5e844cc37a ("spi: Introduce device-managed SPI controller
allocation")).

When a driver is probed through __driver_attach(), the bus' match()
callback is called without the device lock held, thus accessing the
driver_override field without a lock, which can cause a UAF.
Fix this by using the driver-core driver_override infrastructure taking
care of proper locking internally.
Note that calling match() from __driver_attach() without the device lock
held is intentional. [1]
Also note that we do not enable the driver_override feature of struct
bus_type, as SPI - in contrast to most other buses - passes "" to
sysfs_emit() when the driver_override pointer is NULL. Thus, printing
"\n" instead of "(null)\n".

The current interrupt handler only checks the GENI main IRQ status
(m_irq) before deciding to return IRQ_NONE. This can lead to spurious
IRQ_NONE returns when DMA interrupts are pending but m_irq is zero.
Move the DMA TX/RX status register reads to the beginning of the ISR,
right after reading m_irq. Update the early return condition to check
all three status registers (m_irq, dma_tx_status, dma_rx_status) before
returning IRQ_NONE.

The kernel test robot reported a compile-time error regarding the
FIELD_PREP() value being too large for the TRANS_DUAL_QUAD field:
error: FIELD_PREP: value too large for the field
note: in expansion of macro 'TRANS_DUAL_QUAD'
tc |= TRANS_DUAL_QUAD(ffs(op->data.buswidth) - 1);
This occurs because TRANS_DUAL_QUAD is defined as a 2-bit field, and
GCC's static analysis cannot deduce that `ffs(op->data.buswidth) - 1`
will strictly fall within the 0~3 range. Although the SPI framework
guarantees that `op->data.buswidth` is valid at runtime (e.g., 1, 2,
4, 8), an explicit bounds check is necessary to satisfy the compiler.
To resolve the build warning, introduce a safe fallback mechanism.
If an unexpected buswidth is encountered, the driver will trigger
a WARN_ON_ONCE to leave a trace and fall back to width_code = 0
(standard 1-bit SPI mode). This approach guarantees predictable
hardware behavior.

Using Tegra234, it was found that it takes about 10us to disable clocks
and 20us to enable clocks, adding about 30us overhead per operation.
For a 4MB firmware update with 16,384 page programs, this results in
~491ms total overhead (12% impact).
With Tegra234, flash operations were observed to occur in bursts with
50-200μs gaps between page programs. Testing on Tegra234 with various
operation patterns shows 500ms delay provides optimal balance, and for
longer operations (>500ms), the overhead is negligible. Therefore,
update the driver to use pm-runtime autosuspend with the default timeout
of 500ms to reduce the clock gating overhead during consecutive QSPI

On device tree systems this functionality should never be used,

device tree. Make this more clear by only allowing the "sidecar"

Allow this by passing the parent device pointer to __spi_add_device()

This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much
smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex()
interface.
As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute
force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather
than 'objs*'.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

The spidev driver previously used two mutexes, spi_lock and buf_lock,
but acquired them in different orders depending on the code path:
write()/read(): buf_lock -> spi_lock
ioctl(): spi_lock -> buf_lock
This AB-BA locking pattern triggers lockdep warnings and can
cause real deadlocks:
WARNING: possible circular locking dependency detected
spidev_ioctl() -> mutex_lock(&spidev->buf_lock)
spidev_sync_write() -> mutex_lock(&spidev->spi_lock)
*** DEADLOCK ***
The issue is reproducible with a simple userspace program that
performs write() and SPI_IOC_WR_MAX_SPEED_HZ ioctl() calls from
separate threads on the same spidev file descriptor.
Fix this by simplifying the locking model and removing the lock
inversion entirely. spidev_sync() no longer performs any locking,
and all callers serialize access using spi_lock.
buf_lock is removed since its functionality is fully covered by
spi_lock, eliminating the possibility of lock ordering issues.
This removes the lock inversion and prevents deadlocks without
changing userspace ABI or behaviour.

The highlight here is that David Lechner has added support for multi-lane
SPI devices. Unlike the existing dual/quad SPI support this is for
devices (typically ADCs/DACs) which support multiple independent data
streams over multiple data lanes, instead of sending one data stream N
times as fast they simultaneously transfer N different data streams.
This is very similar to the case where multiple devices are grouped
together but in this case it's a single device in a way that's visible
to software.
Otherwise there's been quite a bit of work on existing drivers, both
cleanup and feature improvement, and a reasonable collection of new

Adding support for this SoC required a few adaptations to the Cadence
QSPI driver which have already been merged (except one regarding clocks
handling). This series contains the remaining patches, the ones actually
adding support for the RZ/N1 flavour.
The COMMAND1 register bits [29:28] set the SPI mode, which controls
the clock idle level. When a transfer ends, tegra_spi_transfer_end()
writes def_command1_reg back to restore the default state, but this
register value currently lacks the mode bits. This results in the
clock always being configured as idle low, breaking devices that
need it high.
Fix this by storing the mode bits in def_command1_reg during setup,
to prevent this field from always being cleared.

This controller can be fed by either a main "ref" clock, or three clocks
("ref" again, "ahb", "apb"). In practice, it is likely that all
controllers have the same inputs, but a single clock feeds the three
interfaces (ref is used for controlling the external interface, ahb/apb
the internal ones). Handling these clocks is in no way SoC specific,
only the number of expected clocks may change. Plus, we will soon be
adding another controller requiring an AHB and an APB clock as well, so
it is time to align the whole clock handling.
Furthermore, the use of the cqspi_jh7110_clk_init() helper, which
specifically grabs and enables the "ahb" and "apb" clocks, is a bit
convoluted:
- only the JH7110 compatible provides the ->jh7110_clk_init() callback,
- in the probe, if the above callback is set in the driver data, the
driver does not call the callback (!) but instead calls the helper
directly (?),
- in the helper, the is_jh7110 boolean is set.
This logic does not make sense. Instead:
- in the probe, set the is_jh7110 boolean based on the compatible,
- collect all available clocks with the "bulk" helper,
- enable the extra clocks if they are available,
- kill the SoC specific cqspi_jh7110_clk_init() helper.
This also allows to group the clock handling instead of depending on the
driver data pointer, which further simplifies the error path and the
remove callback.

SPI target mode currently lacks a mechanism to gracefully abort ongoing
transfers when the client or core needs to cancel active transactions.
Implement spi_geni_target_abort() to handle aborting SPI target
operations when the client and core want to cancel ongoing transfers.
This provides a mechanism for graceful termination of active SPI
transactions in target mode.

The driver currently skips the abort sequence for target mode when serial
engine errors occur. This leads to improper error recovery as the serial
engine may remain in an undefined state without proper cleanup, potentially
causing subsequent operations to fail or behave unpredictably.
Fix this by ensuring the abort sequence and DMA reset always execute during
error recovery, as both are required for proper serial engine error
handling.

The current implementation always allocates a host controller and sets the
target flag later when the "spi-slave" device tree property is present.
This approach is suboptimal as it doesn't utilize the dedicated allocation
functions designed for target mode.
Use devm_spi_alloc_target() when "spi-slave" device tree property is
present, otherwise use devm_spi_alloc_host(). This replaces the previous
approach of always allocating a host controller and setting target flag

Merge series from David Lechner <dlechner@baylibre.com>:
This series is adding support for SPI controllers and peripherals that
have multiple SPI data lanes (data lanes being independent sets of
SDI/SDO lines, each with their own serializer/deserializer).
This series covers this specific use case:
+--------------+ +---------+
| SPI | | SPI |
| Controller | | ADC |
| | | |
| CS0 |--->| CS |
| SCLK |--->| SCLK |
| SDO |--->| SDI |
| SDI0 |<---| SDOA |
| SDI1 |<---| SDOB |
| SDI2 |<---| SDOC |
| SDI3 |<---| SDOD |
+--------------+ +--------+
The ADC is a simultaneous sampling ADC that can convert 4 samples at the
same time. It has 4 data output lines (SDOA-D) that each contain the
data of one of the 4 channels. So it requires a SPI controller with 4
separate deserializers in order to receive all of the information at the
same time.
This should also work for the use case in [1] as well. (Some of the
patches in this series were already submitted there). In that case the
SPI controller is used kind of like it is two separate SPI controllers,
each with its own chip select, clock, and data lines.
[1]: https://lore.kernel.org/linux-spi/20250616220054.3968946-1-sean.anderson@linux.dev/
The DT bindings are a fairly straight-forward mapping of which pins on
the peripheral are connected to which pins on the controller. The SPI
core code parses this and makes the information available to drivers.
When a peripheral driver sees that multiple data lanes are wired up, it
can chose to use them when sending messages.
The SPI message API is a bit higher-level than just specifying the
number of data lines for a SPI transfer though. I did some research on
other SPI controllers that have this feature. They tend to be the kind
meant for connecting to two flash memory chips at the same time but can
be used more generically as well. They generally have the option to
either use one lane at a time (Sean's use case), or can mirror the same
data on multiple lanes (no users of this yet) or can perform striping
of a single data FIFO/DMA stream to/from the two lanes (our use case).
For now, the API assumes that if you want to do mirror/striping, then
you want to use all available data lanes. Otherwise, it just uses the
first data lane for "normal" SPI transfers.
In tegra_slink_probe(), when platform_get_irq() fails, it directly
returns from the function with an error code, which causes a memory leak.
Replace it with a goto label to ensure proper cleanup.

Add support for SPI_MULTI_LANE_MODE_STRIPE to the AXI SPI engine driver.
The v2.0.0 version of the AXI SPI Engine IP core supports multiple
lanes. This can be used with SPI_MULTI_LANE_MODE_STRIPE to support
reading from simultaneous sampling ADCs that have a separate SDO line
for each analog channel. This allows reading all channels at the same
time to increase throughput.

Add support for SPI controllers with multiple physical SPI data lanes.
(A data lane in this context means lines connected to a serializer, so a
controller with two data lanes would have two serializers in a single
controller).
This is common in the type of controller that can be used with parallel
flash memories, but can be used for general purpose SPI as well.
To indicate support, a controller just needs to set ctlr->num_data_lanes
to something greater than 1. Peripherals indicate which lane they are
connected to via device tree (ACPI support can be added if needed).
The spi-{tx,rx}-bus-width DT properties can now be arrays. The length of
the array indicates the number of data lanes, and each element indicates
the bus width of that lane. For now, we restrict all lanes to have the
same bus width to keep things simple. Support for an optional controller
lane mapping property is also implemented.

Now that all other accesses to curr_xfer are done under the lock,
protect the curr_xfer NULL check in tegra_qspi_isr_thread() with the
spinlock. Without this protection, the following race can occur:
CPU0 (ISR thread) CPU1 (timeout path)
---------------- -------------------
if (!tqspi->curr_xfer)
// sees non-NULL
spin_lock()
tqspi->curr_xfer = NULL
spin_unlock()
handle_*_xfer()
spin_lock()
t = tqspi->curr_xfer // NULL!
... t->len ... // NULL dereference!
With this patch, all curr_xfer accesses are now properly synchronized.
Although all accesses to curr_xfer are done under the lock, in
tegra_qspi_isr_thread() it checks for NULL, releases the lock and
reacquires it later in handle_cpu_based_xfer()/handle_dma_based_xfer().
There is a potential for an update in between, which could cause a NULL
pointer dereference.
To handle this, add a NULL check inside the handlers after acquiring
the lock. This ensures that if the timeout path has already cleared
curr_xfer, the handler will safely return without dereferencing the
NULL pointer.

When the timeout handler processes a completed transfer and signals
completion, the transfer thread can immediately set up the next transfer
and assign curr_xfer to point to it.
If a delayed ISR from the previous transfer then runs, it checks if
(!tqspi->curr_xfer) (currently without the lock also -- to be fixed
soon) to detect stale interrupts, but this check passes because
curr_xfer now points to the new transfer. The ISR then incorrectly
processes the new transfer's context.
Protect the curr_xfer assignment with the spinlock to ensure the ISR
either sees NULL (and bails out) or sees the new value only after the
assignment is complete.

When the ISR thread wakes up late and finds that the timeout handler
has already processed the transfer (curr_xfer is NULL), return
IRQ_HANDLED instead of IRQ_NONE.
Use a similar approach to tegra_qspi_handle_timeout() by reading
QSPI_TRANS_STATUS and checking the QSPI_RDY bit to determine if the
hardware actually completed the transfer. If QSPI_RDY is set, the
interrupt was legitimate and triggered by real hardware activity.
The fact that the timeout path handled it first doesn't make it
spurious. Returning IRQ_NONE incorrectly suggests the interrupt
wasn't for this device, which can cause issues with shared interrupt
lines and interrupt accounting.

This series adds support for the QSPI controller available on Renesas

Adding support for this SoC required a few adaptations in the Cadence
QSPI driver. The bulk of the work is in the few last patches. Everything
else is just misc style fixes and improvements which bothered me while I
was wandering.
In order to support all constraints, I sometimes used a new quirk (for
the write protection feature and the "no indirect mode"), and sometimes
used the compatible directly. The ones I thought might not be RZ/N1
specific have been implemented under the form of a quirk, in order to
ease their reuse. The other adaptations, which I believe are more
Renesas specific, have been handled using the compatible. This is all
very arbitrary, and can be discussed.
Bindings expect 4 to be the default value for cdns,fifo-width. Said
otherwise, if the property (which is not mandatory) is not provided, the
OS, in order to comply with the bindings, should not error out and take
4 as default value.
Comply with the bindings. This would have slighlty simplyfied my testing
if it had been implemented correctly in the first place, but in practice
it should have no impact on the existing boards using this controller, as
they all set cdns,fifo-width to 4 explicitly in their upstream DTS.

The LPSPI driver currently does not support setting SPI bus clock
polarity and phase, add support for it.
It is important to configure correct initial clock polarity and phase
before the GPIO chipselect toggles, otherwise a chip attached to the
bus might recognize the first change of clock signal as the first
clock cycle and get confused.
In order to set up the correct polarity and phase on the clock signal
before the GPIO chipselects get configured by the SPI core, the
controller has to be briefly brought up in fsl_lpspi_prepare_message().
The fsl_lpspi_prepare_message() behaves like a zero-length transfer
which always uses PIO and never DMA, and which leaves the clock signal
in the correct state at the end of such transfer, which happens before
the GPIO chipselect toggles.
