regulator: core: correct convergence check in regulator_set_voltage()
The conversion of all GPIO drivers to using the .set_rv() and
.set_multiple_rv() callbacks from struct gpio_chip (which - unlike their
predecessors - return an integer and allow the controller drivers to
indicate failures to users) is now complete and the legacy ones have
been removed. Rename the new callbacks back to their original names in
one sweeping change.

The logic in regulator_set_voltage() which checks for a non-convergence
condition on a stepped regulator is flawed.
regulator_set_voltage() checks if the error in target voltage has increased
or decreased, and returns -EWOULDBLOCK if the error has not decreased
enough. The correct non-convergence condition is:
new_delta - delta > -rdev->constraints->max_uV_step
or equivalently:
delta - new_delta < rdev->constraints->max_uV_step
But the currently used condition is:
new_delta - delta > rdev->constraints->max_uV_step
Which may cause an infinite loop if the voltage error doesn't converge.
Fix this by correcting the convergence condition.

The regulator_set_voltage() function may exhibit unexpected behavior if the
target regulator has a maximum voltage step constraint. With such a
constraint, the regulator core may clamp the requested voltage to a lesser
value, to ensure that the voltage delta stays under the specified limit.
This means that the resulting regulator voltage depends on the current
voltage, as well as the requested range, which invalidates the assumption
that a repeated request for a specific voltage range will amount to a noop.
Considering the case of a regulator with a maximum voltage step constraint
of 1V:
initial voltage: 2.5V
consumer requests 4V
expected result: 3.5V
resulting voltage: 3.5V
consumer requests 4V again
expected result: 4V
actual result: 3.5V
Correct this by repeating attempts to balance the regulator voltage until
the result converges.

Commit 00c826525f ("regulator: tps6594-regulator: Add TI TPS65224 PMIC

the multi-phase buck converter variable depending on the variant of the

configs probably because this variant only supports a multi-phase

In probe(), two arrays of structs are allocated with the devm_kmalloc()
function, but the memory size of the allocations were given as the arrays'
length (pmic->common_irq_size for the first call and pmic->dev_irq_size for
the second devm_kmalloc call). The memory size should have been the total
memory needed.
This led to a heap overflow when the struct array was used. The issue was
first discovered with the PocketBeagle2 and BeaglePlay. The common and
device-specific structs are now allocated one at a time within the loop.

Failing to reset coupling_desc.n_coupled after freeing coupled_rdevs can
lead to NULL pointer dereference when regulators are accessed post-unbind.
This can happen during runtime PM or other regulator operations that rely
on coupling metadata.
For example, on ridesx4, unbinding the 'reg-dummy' platform device triggers
a panic in regulator_lock_recursive() due to stale coupling state.
Ensure n_coupled is set to 0 to prevent access to invalid pointers.

The datasheets for all the fan53555 variants (and clones using the same
interface) define so called soft start times, from enabling the regulator
until at least some percentage of the output (i.e. 92% for the rk860x
types) are available.
The regulator framework supports this with the enable_time property
but currently the fan53555 driver does not define enable_times for any
variant.
I ran into a problem with this while testing the new driver for the
Rockchip NPUs (rocket), which does runtime-pm including disabling and
enabling a rk8602 as needed. When reenabling the regulator while running
a load, fatal hangs could be observed while enabling the associated
power-domain, which the regulator supplies.
Experimentally setting the regulator to always-on, made the issue
disappear, leading to the missing delay to let power stabilize.
And as expected, setting the enable-time to a non-zero value
according to the datasheet also resolved the regulator-issue.
The datasheets in nearly all cases only specify "typical" values,
except for the fan53555 type 08. There both a typical and maximum
value are listed - 40uS apart.
For all typical values I've added 100uS to be on the safe side.
Individual details for the relevant regulators below:
- fan53526:
The datasheet for all variants lists a typical value of 150uS, so
make that 250uS with safety margin.
- fan53555:
types 08 and 18 (unsupported) are given a typical enable time of 135uS
but also a maximum of 175uS so use that value. All the other types only
have a typical time in the datasheet of 300uS, so give a bit margin by
setting it to 400uS.
- rk8600 + rk8602:
Datasheet reports a typical value of 260us, so use 360uS to be safe.
- syr82x + syr83x:
All datasheets report typical soft-start values of 300uS for these
regulators, so use 400uS.
- tcs452x:
Datasheet sadly does not report a soft-start time, so I've not set
an enable-time

There is a missing call to of_node_put() if devm_kcalloc() fails.
Fix this by changing the code to use cleanup.h magic to drop the

chunk of the updates were the result of conversions to use newer GPIO

Instead of filling in the regulator description programatically,
store the data in a struct. This will make it a bit nicer to
introduce support for other BCM590xx chips besides the BCM59056.
To do this, add a new struct type, bcm590xx_reg_data, to store
all of the necessary information. Drop the old IS_LDO, IS_GPLDO...
macros in favor of the "type" field in this struct. Adapt the
old bcm590xx_reg struct to the new types.

'struct spmi_voltage_range' are only modified at runtime to compile a
field, n_voltages, that could be computed at compile time.
So, simplify spmi_calculate_num_voltages() and compute n_voltages at
compile time within the SPMI_VOLTAGE_RANGE macro.
Constifying these structures moves some data to a read-only section, so
increase overall security.

max20086_parse_regulators_dt() calls of_regulator_match() using an
array of struct of_regulator_match allocated on the stack for the
matches argument.
of_regulator_match() calls devm_of_regulator_put_matches(), which calls
devres_alloc() to allocate a struct devm_of_regulator_matches which will
be de-allocated using devm_of_regulator_put_matches().
struct devm_of_regulator_matches is populated with the stack allocated
matches array.
If the device fails to probe, devm_of_regulator_put_matches() will be
called and will try to call of_node_put() on that stack pointer,
generating the following dmesg entries:
max20086 6-0028: Failed to read DEVICE_ID reg: -121
kobject: '\xc0$\xa5\x03' (000000002cebcb7a): is not initialized, yet
kobject_put() is being called.
Followed by a stack trace matching the call flow described above.
Switch to allocating the matches array using devm_kcalloc() to
avoid accessing the stack pointer long after it's out of scope.
This also has the advantage of allowing multiple max20086 to probe
without overriding the data stored inside the global of_regulator_match.

When restarting a CPU powered by the PCA9450 power management IC, it
is beneficial to use the PCA9450 to power cycle the CPU and all its
connected peripherals to start up in a known state. The PCA9450 features
a cold start procedure initiated by an I2C command.
Add a restart handler so that the PCA9450 is used to restart the CPU.
The restart handler sends command 0x14 to the SW_RST register,
initiating a cold reset (Power recycle all regulators except LDO1, LDO2
and CLK_32K_OUT)
As the PCA9450 is a PMIC specific for the i.MX8M family CPU, the restart
handler priority is set just slightly higher than imx2_wdt and the PSCI
restart handler. This makes sure this restart handler takes precedence.

Add support for TPS65214 regulators (bucks and LDOs) to the TPS65219
Regulator Driver as the TPS65214/TPS65214/TPS65219 PMIC devices have

Isolate all changes involving TPS65215 regulator desc and range resources.
- 'chipid' will identify which PMIC to support, and the corresponding
chip_data struct element to use in probe(). The chip_data struct is
helpful for any new PMICs added to this driver. The goal is to add future
PMIC info to necessary structs and minimize probe() function edits.
- The probe() will now loop through common (overlapping) regulators first,
then device-specific structs identified in the chip_data struct.
- Add TI TPS65215 PMIC to the existing platform_device_id struct, so the
regulator probe() can handle which PMIC chip_data information to use.

The ROHM BD96802 PMIC is primarily intended to be used as a companion
PMIC extending the capabilities of the BD96802 but it can be used on
it's own as well. When used as a companion PMIC, the start-up and
shut-down sequences are usually intitiated by the master PMIC using IF
pins.
The BD96802 looks from the digital interface point of view pretty much
like a reduced version of BD96801. It includes only 2 BUCKs and provides
the same error protection/detection mechanisms as the BD96801. Also, the
voltage control logic is same up to the register addresses.

The resources generated in the BD96801 MFD driver are only visible to
the sub-drivers whose resource fields they are added. This makes
abbreviating the resource name with the IC name pointless. It just adds
confusion in those sub-drivers which do not really care the exact model
that generates the IRQ but just want to know the purpose IRQ was
generated for. Thus, as a preparatory fix to simplify adding support for
ROHM BD96802 PMIC the IC name "bd96801-" prefix was dropped from the IRQ
resource names. Adapt the regulator driver to this change.

This has been a very quiet release, we've got support for one device
added, another removed, and some smaller fixes and API improvements.
The main thing of note is the rework of the PCA9450 LDO5 handling:
- A rework of the handling of LDO5 on the PCA9450, this was quite wrong
in how it handled the SD_VSEL conrol and only worked for some system
designs. This includes a DTS update since there was a not quite ABI
compatible change as part of the fix.
- A devres change introducing devm_kmemdup_array() was pulled in so it
could be used with some regulator conversions to that function, this
pulled in some other devres and IIO stuff that was part of the same pull
request.
- Removal of the PCF50633 driver, the SoC for the OpenMoko platform
that used it has been removed.
- Support for the NXP PF9453.

If 'ctr_bit' is negative, the shift counts become negative, causing a
shift of bounds and undefined behavior.
Presumably that's not possible in normal operation, but the code
generation isn't optimal. And undefined behavior should be avoided
regardless.
Improve code generation and remove the undefined behavior by converting
the signed variables to unsigned.

When the core detects permanent regulator hardware failure or imminent
power failure of a critical supply, it will call hw_protection_shutdown in
an attempt to do a limited orderly shutdown followed by powering off the
system.
This doesn't work out well for many unattended embedded systems that don't
have support for shutdown and that power on automatically when power is
supplied:
- A brief power cycle gets detected by the driver
- The kernel powers down the system and SoC goes into shutdown mode
- Power is restored
- The system remains oblivious to the restored power
- System needs to be manually power cycled for a duration long enough
to drain the capacitors
Allow users to fix this by calling the newly introduced
hw_protection_trigger() instead: This way the hw_protection commandline or
sysfs parameter is used to dictate the policy of dealing with the
regulator fault.

Sometimes I get a NULL pointer dereference at boot time in kobject_get()
with the following call stack:
anatop_regulator_probe()
devm_regulator_register()
regulator_register()
regulator_resolve_supply()
kobject_get()
By placing some extra BUG_ON() statements I could verify that this is
raised because probing of the 'dummy' regulator driver is not completed
('dummy_regulator_rdev' is still NULL).
In the JTAG debugger I can see that dummy_regulator_probe() and
anatop_regulator_probe() can be run by different kernel threads
(kworker/u4:*). I haven't further investigated whether this can be
changed or if there are other possibilities to force synchronization
between these two probe routines. On the other hand I don't expect much
boot time penalty by probing the 'dummy' regulator synchronously.

Currently, we are unnecessarily holding a regulator_ww_class_mutex lock
when creating debugfs entries for a newly created regulator. This was
brought up as a concern in the discussion in commit cba6cfdc7c
("regulator: core: Avoid lockdep reports when resolving supplies").
This causes the following lockdep splat after executing
`ls /sys/kernel/debug` on my platform:

There are two ways to set the output voltage of the LD05
regulator. First by writing to the voltage selection registers
and second by toggling the SD_VSEL signal.
Usually board designers connect SD_VSEL to the VSELECT signal
controlled by the USDHC controller, but in some cases the
signal is hardwired to a fixed low level (therefore selecting
3.3V as initial value for allowing to boot from the SD card).
In these cases, the voltage is only determined by the value
of the LDO5CTRL_L register. Introduce a property
nxp,sd-vsel-fixed-low to let the driver know that SD_VSEL
is low and there is no GPIO to actually get that
information from dynamically.

Merge series from Sebastian Reichel <sebastian.reichel@collabora.com>:
This introduces devm_of_regulator_get without the _optional suffix, since
that is more sensible for the Rockchip usecase.
The Rockchip power-domain controller also plans to make use of
per-domain regulators similar to the MediaTek power-domain controller.
Since existing DTs are missing the regulator information, the kernel
should fallback to the automatically created dummy regulator if
necessary. Thus the version without the _optional suffix is needed.
The Rockchip driver plans to use the managed version, but to be
consistent with existing code the unmanaged version is added at the
same time.

This reverts commit cd7a38c40b.
When submitting the change above, it was thought that the origin of the
init_data should be a clear choice, from the driver or from DT but not
both.
It turns out some devices, such as qcom-msm8974-lge-nexus5-hammerhead,
relied on the old behaviour to override the init_data provided by the
driver, making it some kind of default if none is provided by the platform.
Using the init_data provided by the driver when it is present broke these
devices so revert the change to fixup the situation and add a comment

AD5398_SW_POWER_DOWN was defined with a bit position outside the valid
range of the device's 16-bit register. The bitwise operation with an
unsigned short would always evaluate to 0, making the power down check
ineffective.
Update AD5398_SW_POWER_DOWN to use a valid bit position within the
16-bit range of the register.

Merge series from Isaac Scott <isaac.scott@ideasonboard.com>:
The AD5398 is a DAC that can be used to control current flow in circuits
in a wide variety of applications such as motor control, or in my case,
LED control. I found when working with the current driver that it did
not work for my use case. It transpired that it only had support for
platform_data, and didn't appear to be correctly implemented according
to the datasheet, which can be found here:
https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/ad5398.pdf
One example of this is the "soft power-down" bit being referred to in
the driver as simply "enable", which gives the impression that the
setting that bit will allow current through the regulator, which it does
not.
This series allows the regulator to be given its constraints via the
device tree, and makes the function of the enable register much more
obvious.
The LDO5 regulator has two configuration registers, but only
LDO5CTRL_L contains the bits for enabling/disabling the regulator.

For LDO5 we need to be able to check the status of the SD_VSEL input in
order to know which control register is used. Read the status of the
SD_VSEL signal via GPIO and use the correct register accordingly.
To use this, the LDO5 node in the devicetree needs the sd-vsel-gpios
property to reference the GPIO that is used to read back the SD_VSEL
status internally. Please note that the SION bit in the IOMUX must be
set if the signal is muxed as VSELECT and controlled by the USDHC
controller.

This reverts commit 8c67a11bae.
It turns out that all boards using the PCA9450 actually have the
SD_VSEL input connected to the VSELECT signal of the SoCs SD/MMC
interface or use a fixed level.
The assumptions on which this was implemented were wrong. There
is no need for a GPIO-only-based approach and keeping this will
cause confusion and lead people to implement non-standard setups.
All in-tree users of this have been migrated and we can savely
remove this now and allow for a more future-proof approach
of syncing the actual status of SD_VSEL and the PMIC driver.

Previously, the ad5398 driver used only platform_data, which is
deprecated in favour of device tree. This caused the AD5398 to fail to
probe as it could not load its init_data. If the AD5398 has a device
tree node, pull the init_data from there using
of_get_regulator_init_data.

The mask name AD5398_CURRENT_EN_MASK is misleading, as it implies that
setting bit 16 of the AD5398 enables current flow. In fact, setting this
bit prevents current flow, due to this bit being a software power down
control. This bit is referred to as "soft power down" in the datasheet.
As such, change the name of the bit and modify its use in the driver to
make the regulator more intuitively usable.
(When calling ad5398_enable, current will start flowing, and vice
versa).

Changing voltage might ignore slew rate and cause a current surge.
With current implementation the driver will get the regulator to change
the voltage range used during run time. According to communication I
have had with Texas Instruments, this is not intended, since the
Dynamic Voltage Scaling in the hardware is only designed to work
within a voltage range. The current implementation will therefore
ignore the slew rate that is defined in devicetree when the voltage
range is changed during use.
The current implementation will always select a voltage in the most
accurate range that can reach that voltage even though multiple ranges
are able to reach that voltage. There are 4 Voltage ranges with the
following reach:
0b00: 0.4-0.71875V (1.25mV step size)
0b01: 0.4-1.0375V (2.5mV)
0b10: 0.4-1.675V (5mV)
0b11: 0.8-3.3V (10mV)
This in practice means that a change from below to above 0.71875V will
use the smallest range(0b00) for the values below and the second
smallest range(0b01) for the voltages above (Up to 1.675V). I have
timed how long it takes to go from below 0.71875V to above. The
increase was 100mV which, with the slew rate set to 1250µV/µs. This
in theory should take 80µs to do. With the current implementation, it
takes 10µs on my hardware. Doing the same test with the slew rate set
to 5000µV/µs, which should take 20µs, also only takes 10µs to do on
my hardware. Not only is this not in line with the technical
specification for the regulator. It also causes a current surge. Which
when calculating the output current, as described in the technical
specification, compared to what I could observe on my hardware the real
output is ~1A higher (~1.2A) than what I calculated it to be(~0.2A).
I tested also transitioning from a bigger to a smaller range, and the
results were the same.
Instead, let's limit the voltage range to a single one, which is in
line with the intended use of the regulator. This is done by looking
up the minimum and maximum requested voltage specified in devicetree.

Previously, the regulator core resolved its supply only from the parent
device or its children, ignoring the of_node specified in the
regulator_config structure.
This behavior causes issues in scenarios where multiple regulator devices
are registered for components described as children of a controller, each
with their own specific regulator supply.
For instance, in a PSE controller with multiple PIs (Power Interfaces),
each PI may have a distinct regulator supply. However, the regulator core
would incorrectly use the PSE controller node or its first child to look up
the regulator supply, rather than the node specified by the
regulator_config->of_node for the PI.
This update modifies the behavior to prioritize the of_node in
regulator_config for resolving the supply. This ensures correct resolution
of the power supply for each device. If no supply is found in the provided
of_node, the core falls back to searching within the parent device as
before.

of_regulator_match() does not release the OF node reference in the error
path, resulting in an OF node leak. Therefore, call of_node_put() on the
obtained nodes before returning the EINVAL error.
Since it is possible that some drivers call this function and do not
exit on failure, such as s2mps11_pmic_driver, clear the init_data and
of_node in the error path.
This was reported by an experimental verification tool that I am
developing. As I do not have access to actual devices nor the QEMU board
configuration to test drivers that call this function, no runtime test
was able to be performed.

manage their enable modes:
- 00b: OFF
- 01b: ON when PMIC_ON_REQ = H
- 10b: ON when PMIC_ON_REQ = H && PMIC_STBY_REQ = L
- 11b: Always ON
Ensure appropriate behavior based on the intended design. For example:
- Buck2, designed for vddarm, should be set to '10b' (ON when
PMIC_STBY_REQ = L) since it can be off when `PMIC_STBY_REQ = H` after the
kernel enters suspend.
- Other bucks remain '01b' (ON when PMIC_ON_REQ = H), matching the default
setting. This avoids the need to re-enable them during kernel boot as they
are already enabled after PMIC initialization.

The ROHM BD96801 "scalable PMIC" provides two physical IRQs. The ERRB
handling can in many cases be omitted because it is used to inform fatal
IRQs, which usually kill the power from the SOC.
There may however be use-cases where the SOC has a 'back-up' emergency
power source which allows some very short time of operation to try to
gracefully shut down sensitive hardware. Furthermore, it is possible the
processor controlling the PMIC is not powered by the PMIC. In such cases
handling the ERRB IRQs may be beneficial.

This was a quite quiet release for regulators on the drivers front, but
we do have two small but useful core improvements:
- Improve handling of cases where DT platforms specify both DT and
init_data based configuration for a single regulator.
- A helper of_regulator_get_optional() to simplify writing generic
bindings for regulator consumers in subsystems.
There's also some YAML conversions for the DT bindings which are a big

All FTSMPS525 regulators support LV and MV ranges; however,
the boot loader firmware will determine which range to use as
the device boots.
Nonetheless, the driver cannot determine which range was selected,
so hardcoding the ranges as either LV or MV will not cover all cases
as it's possible for the firmware to select a range not supported by
the driver's current hardcoded values.
To this end, combine the ranges for the FTSMPS525s into one struct
and point all regulators to the updated combined struct. This should
work on all boards regardless of which range is selected by the firmware
and more accurately caputres the capability of this regulator on a
hardware level.

After commit 0edb555a65 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove()

platform drivers.
Convert all platform drivers below drivers/regulator to use .remove(),
with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As
.remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done
by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer.
A few whitespace changes are done en passant to make indention

Currently, RK809's BUCK3 regulator is modelled in the driver as a
configurable regulator with 0.5-2.4V voltage range. But the voltage
setting is not actually applied, because when bit 6 of
PMIC_POWER_CONFIG register is set to 0 (default), BUCK3 output voltage
is determined by the external feedback resistor. Fix this, by setting
bit 6 when voltage selection is set. Existing users which do not
specify voltage constraints in their device trees will not be affected
by this change, since no voltage setting is applied in those cases,
and bit 6 is not enabled.

The X-Powers AXP323 is a very close sibling of the AXP313A. The only
difference seems to be the ability to dual-phase the first two DC/DC
converters.
Place the new AXP323 ID next to the existing AXP313A checks, to let
them share most code.
The only difference is the poly-phase detection code, which gets
extended to check the respective bit in a newly used register.

The rk808-regulator driver supports multiple PMIC variants from the Rockckip
RK80x and RK81x series, but the DVS GPIOs are supported on the RK808 variant
only, according to the DT bindings [1][2][3][4][5][6] and the datasheets for
the supported PMIC variants. [7][8][9][10][11][12]
Thus, change the probe path so the "dvs-gpios" property is checked for and
its value possibly used only when the handled PMIC variant is RK808. There's
no point in doing that on the other PMIC variants, because they don't support
the DVS GPIOs, and it goes against the DT bindings to allow a possible out-
of-place "dvs-gpios" property to actually be handled in the driver.
This eliminates the following messages, emitted when the "dvs-gpios" property
isn't found in the DT, from the kernel log on boards that actually don't use
the RK808 variant, which may have provided a source of confusion:
rk808-regulator rk808-regulator.2.auto: there is no dvs0 gpio
rk808-regulator rk808-regulator.2.auto: there is no dvs1 gpio
Furthermore, demote these kernel messages to debug messages, because they are
useful during the board bringup phase only. Emitting them afterwards, on the
boards that use the RK808 variant, but actually don't use the DVS0/1 GPIOs,
clutters the kernel log a bit, while they provide no value and may actually
cause false impression that some PMIC-related issues are present.

On DT platforms, if a regulator init_data is provided in config, it is
silently ignored in favor of the DT parsing done by the framework, if
of_match is set.
of_match is an indication that init_data is expected to be set based on DT
and the parsing should be done by the regulator framework.
If the regulator provider passed init_data it must be because it is useful
somehow, in such case of_match should be clear.
If the driver expects the framework to initialize this data on its
own, it should leave init_data clear.

There are existing uses for a devres version of of_regulator_get_optional()
in power domain drivers. On MediaTek platforms, power domains may have
regulator supplies tied to them. The driver currently tries to use
devm_regulator_get() to not have to manage the lifecycle, but ends up
doing it in a very hacky way by replacing the device node of the power
domain controller device to the device node of the power domain that is
currently being registered, getting the supply, and reverting the device
node.

The to-be-introduced I2C component prober needs to enable regulator
supplies (and toggle GPIO pins) for the various components it intends
to probe. To support this, a new "pure DT lookup" method for getting
regulator supplies is needed, since the device normally requesting
the supply won't get created until after the component is probed to
be available.
Add a new of_regulator_get_optional() function for this. This mirrors
the existing regulator_get_optional() function, but is OF-specific.
The underlying code that supports the existing regulator_get*()
functions has been reworked in previous patches to support this
specific case.
Also convert an existing usage of "dev && dev->of_node" to
"dev_of_node(dev)".

The behavior of regulator_dev_lookup() for non-DT way has been broken
since the commit b8c3255457 ("regulator: Move OF-specific regulator
lookup code to of_regulator.c").
Before the commit, of_get_regulator() was used to get the regulator,
which returns NULL if the regulator is not found. So the regulator
will be looked up through regulator_lookup_by_name() if no matching
regulator is found in regulator_map_list.
However, currently, of_regulator_dev_lookup() is used to instead of
of_get_regulator(), but the variable 'r' is set to ERR_PTR(-ENODEV)
instead of NULL if the regulator is not found. In this case, if no
regulator is found in regulator_map_list, the variable 'r' is still
ERR_PTR(-ENODEV), So regulator_dev_lookup() returns the value of 'r'
directly instead of continuing to look up the regulator through
regulator_lookup_by_name().

Merge series from Andre Przywara <andre.przywara@arm.com>:
This is remainder of the AXP717 fix series, containing support for the
boost regulator. This is meant to increase the battery voltage to the 5
volts required to provide the USB VBUS power.
It's the usual trinity of DT bindings patch (1/3), the MFD part
describing the PMIC registers (2/3) and the final patch to model the
regulator (3/3).
Compared to v2, this drops the merged patches, and just retains the
boost related parts. It also changes the internal name of the register
to AXP717_MODULE_EN_CONTROL_2, since there is another control register
we will need later for battery support.
The AXP717 also contains an adjustable boost regulator, to provide the
5V USB VBUS rail when running on battery.
Add the regulator description that states the voltage range this
regulator can cover.

Currently in of_regulator_bulk_get_all(), if any regulator request
fails, the error path releases all regulators already requested,
but leaves the |struct regulator_bulk_data| memory to the caller
to free, and also leaves the regulator consumer pointers dangling.
The latter behavior is not documented, and may not be what the
caller is expecting.
Instead, explicitly clean up everything on error, and make it clear
that the result pointer is only update if the whole request succeeds.

The ROHM BD96801 "Scalable PMIC" is an automotive grade PMIC which can
scale to different applications by allowing chaining of PMICs. The PMIC
also supports various protection features which can be configured either
to fire IRQs - or to shut down power outputs when failure is detected.
The driver implements basic voltage control and sending error
notifications.
NOTE:
The driver does not support doing configuration which require the PMIC
to be in STBY state. The omitted feature set includes setting safety
limit values, changing LDO voltages and controlling enable state for
some regulators.
Also, the ERRB IRQ is not handled.

The previous driver never worked, and never got even compiled because
it was missing the DVFSRC driver entirely, including needed neaders.
This is a full (or nearly full) refactoring of the MediaTek DVFSRC
controlled Regulators driver, retaining support for the MT6873, MT8183
and MT8192 SoC, and adding MT8195.
As part of the refactoring, this driver is now probed using its own

The Qualcomm PM8008 is an I2C-controlled PMIC containing seven LDO
regulators.
The driver is based on a driver submitted by Satya Priya, but it has
been cleaned up and reworked to match the new devicetree binding which
no longer describes each regulator as a separate device.
This avoids describing internal details like register offsets in the
devicetree and allows for extending the implementation with features
like over-current protection without having to update the binding.
Specifically note that the regulator interrupts are shared between all
regulators.
Note that the secondary regmap is looked up by name and that if the
driver ever needs to be generalised to support regulators provided by
the primary regmap (I2C address) such information could be added to the
device-id table.
This also fixes the original implementation, which looked up regulators
by 'regulator-name' property rather than devicetree node name and which
prevented the regulators from being named to match board schematics.

There are two types of LDO VOUT: fixed voltage mode and adjustable voltage mode.
As the fixed voltage for the LDO is outside the range of the adjustable voltage mode,
the constraints for this scenario are not suitable to represent both modes.
Therefore, A property is added to specify the fixed LDO VOUT.
In this version, a software bug has been fixed.
rtq2208_ldo_match is no longer a local variable.
It prevents invalid memory access when devm_of_regulator_put_matches is called.
A fixed LDO VOUT property has been added to specify the fixed_uV of the regulator_desc.

to ensure that the fixed_uV matches the constraints.

These drivers don't use the driver_data member of struct i2c_device_id,
so don't explicitly initialize this member.
This prepares putting driver_data in an anonymous union which requires
either no initialization or named designators. But it's also a nice
cleanup on its own.

write to the VSET register, even if the value of the VSET[7:0] bits does
not change."
The current implementation of the driver uses the
regulator_set_voltage_sel_pickable_regmap() helper which further uses
regmap_update_bits() to write the VSET-register. The
regmap_update_bits() will not access the hardware if the new register
value is same as old. It is worth noting that this is true also when the
register is marked volatile, which I can't say is wrong because
'read-mnodify-write'-cycle with a volatile register is in any case
something user should carefully consider.
The 'range_applied_by_vsel'-flag in regulator desc was added to force
the vsel register upodates by using regmap_write_bits(). This variant
will always unconditionally write the bits to the hardware.
It is worth noting that the vsel is now forced to be written to the
hardware, whether the range was changed or not. This may cause a
performance drop if users are wrtiting same voltage value repeteadly.
It would be possible to read the range register to determine if it was
changed, but this would be a performance issue for users who don't use
reg cache for vsel.
Always write the VSET register to the hardware regardless the cache.

Some PMICs treat the vsel_reg same as apply-bit. Eg, when voltage range
is changed, the new voltage setting is not taking effect until the vsel
register is written.
Add a flag 'range_applied_by_vsel' to the regulator desc to indicate this
behaviour and to force the vsel value to be written to hardware if range
was changed, even if the old selector was same as the new one.

A few of the ROHM PMICs allow setting low-power state specific voltages
for regulators. These voltages are then taken in use (by the hardware)
when the PMIC state is changed.
The voltages for these states can be given via device-tree. If
unsupported voltage has been given, the users have only seen print:
"driver callback failed to parse DT for regulator <name>". This does
help to pinpoint the problem to some extent, but there may be several
properties in device-tree so it should help if we can be a bit more
specific.
Print the voltage value and the run-state property if voltage can not be
supported.

Some of the regulators on the BD71828 have common voltage setting for
RUN/SUSPEND/IDLE/LPSR states. The enable control can be set for each
state though.
The driver allows setting the voltage values for these states via
device-tree. As a side effect, setting the voltages for
SUSPEND/IDLE/LPSR will also change the RUN level voltage which is not
desired and can break the system.
The comment in code reflects this behaviour, but it is likely to not
make people any happier. The right thing to do is to allow setting the
enable/disable state at SUSPEND/IDLE/LPSR via device-tree, but to
disallow setting state specific voltages for those regulators.
BUCK1 is a bit different. It only shares the SUSPEND and LPSR state
voltages. The former behaviour of allowing to silently overwrite the
SUSPEND state voltage by LPSR state voltage is also changed here so that
the SUSPEND voltage is prioritized over LPSR voltage.
Prevent setting PMIC state specific voltages for regulators which do not
support it.

There's one API update here, a new API factoring out a common pattern
for reference voltage supplies. These are supplies uses as a reference
by analogue circuits where the consumer requests and enables the supply,
reads the voltage to calibrate the user and then never touches it again.
This is factored out into a single operation which just returns the
voltage and uses devm_ to manage the request and enable portion.
Otherwise this has been a very quiet release, we've got some new device
support, some small fixes, housekeeping and cleanup work but nothing
substantial.
There's also some non-regulator changes in here, a number of users for
the new reference voltage API were merged along with it and some MFD
changes were pulled in as dependencies for new driver work.
Highlights:
- Add a new API for single operation handling of reference voltages.
- Support for Allwinner AXP717 and D1, and NXP PCA9561A.

D1 contains two pairs of LDOs, "analog" LDOs and "system" LDOs. They are
similar and can share a driver, but only the system LDOs have a DT
binding defined so far.
The system LDOs have a single linear range. The voltage step is not an
integer, so a custom .list_voltage is needed to get the rounding right.

regulator_get() may sometimes be called more than once for the same

errors being logged.
A couple of recent commits broke the handling of such cases so that
attributes are now erroneously created in the debugfs root directory the
second time a regulator is requested and the log is filled with errors
like:

debugfs: File 'min_uV' in directory '/' already present!

Merge series from David Lechner <dlechner@baylibre.com>:
In the IIO subsystem, we noticed a pattern in many drivers where we need
to get, enable and get the voltage of a supply that provides a reference
voltage. In these cases, we only need the voltage and not a handle to
the regulator. Another common pattern is for chips to have an internal
reference voltage that is used when an external reference is not
available. There are also a few drivers outside of IIO that do the same.
So we would like to propose a new regulator consumer API to handle these
specific cases to avoid repeating the same boilerplate code in multiple
drivers.
As an example of how these functions are used, I have included a few
patches to consumer drivers. But to avoid a giant patch bomb, I have
omitted the iio/adc and iio/dac patches I have prepared from this
series. I will send those separately but these will add 36 more users
of devm_regulator_get_enable_read_voltage() in addition to the 6 here.
In total, this will eliminate nearly 1000 lines of similar code and will
simplify writing and reviewing new drivers in the future.
Add support for TPS65224 regulators (bucks and LDOs) to TPS6594 driver as
they have significant functional overlap. TPS65224 PMIC has 4 buck
regulators and 3 LDOs. BUCK12 can operate in dual phase.
The output voltages are configurable and are meant to supply power to the
main processor and other components.

Add support for rk816 to the existing rk808 regulator driver.
The infrastructure of the driver can be re-used as is. A peculiarity for
this version is, that BUCK1/BUCK2 have a (common) bit which needs to
toggled after a voltage change to confirm the change. Regulator regmap
takes care of that by defining a apply_bit and apply_reg for those
regulators.

The MT6360 regulator binding, the example in the MT6360 mfd binding, and
the devicetree users of those bindings are rightfully declaring MT6360
regulator subnodes with non-capital names, and luckily without using the
deprecated regulator-compatible property.
With this driver declaring capitalized BUCKx/LDOx as of_match string for
the node names, obviously no regulator gets probed: fix that by changing
the MT6360_REGULATOR_DESC macro to add a "match" parameter which gets
assigned to the of_match.

more appropriate for modern systems than those made by the rbtree cache.

This has been a very quiet release, mostly cleanups, API updates and
simple device additions. I messed up slightly and there are a couple of
duplicated commits resulting from me leaving things in my inbox which
didn't seem worth removing by the time I noticed them.
- Conversion of several drivers to GPIO descriptors.
- Build out the features of of the MP8859 driver.
- Support for Qualcomm PM4125 and PM6150.

Previously, performing an exclusive get on an already-enabled regulator
resulted in inconsistent state initialization between child and parent
regulators. While the child's counts were updated, its parent's counters
remained unaffected.
Consequently, attempting to disable an already-enabled exclusive regulator
triggered unbalanced disables warnings from its parent regulator.
This commit addresses the issue by propagating the enable state to the
parent regulator using a regulator_enable call. This ensures consistent
state management across the regulator hierarchy, preventing warnings!
