The expected on-wire format of an SMBus Block Write is
S Addr Wr [A] Comm [A] Count [A] Data [A] Data [A] ... [A] Data [A] P
Everything starting from the Count byte is provided by the I2C subsystem in
the array data->block. But the driver was skipping the Count byte
(data->block[0]) when sending it to the RTL93xx I2C controller.
Only the actual data could be seen on the wire:
S Addr Wr [A] Comm [A] Data [A] Data [A] ... [A] Data [A] P
This wire format is not SMBus Block Write compatible but matches the format
of an I2C Block Write. Simply adding the count byte to the buffer for the
I2C controller is enough to fix the transmission.
This also affects read because the I2C controller must receive the count
byte + $count * data bytes.

The timeout for transfers was only set to 2ms. Because of this relatively
low limit, 12-byte read operations to the frontend MCU of a RTL8239 POE PSE
chip cluster was consistently resulting in a timeout.
The original OpenWrt downstream driver [1] was not using any timeout limit
at all. This is also possible by setting the timeout_us parameter of
regmap_read_poll_timeout() to 0. But since the driver currently implements
the ETIMEDOUT error, it is more sensible to increase the timeout in such a
way that communication with the (quite common) Realtek I2C-connected POE
management solution is possible.

The RTL93xx I2C controller has 4 32 bit registers to store the bytes for
the upcoming I2C transmission. The first byte is stored in the
least-significant byte of the first register. And the last byte in the most
significant byte of the last register. A map of the transferred bytes to
their order in the registers is:
reg 0: 0x04_03_02_01
reg 1: 0x08_07_06_05
reg 2: 0x0c_0b_0a_09
reg 3: 0x10_0f_0e_0d
The i2c_read() function basically demonstrates how the hardware would pick
up bytes from this register set. But the i2c_write() function was just
pushing bytes one after another to the least significant byte of a register
AFTER shifting the last one to the next more significant byte position.
If you would then have tried to send a buffer with numbers 1-11 using
i2c_write(), you would have ended up with following register content:
reg 0: 0x01_02_03_04
reg 1: 0x05_06_07_08
reg 2: 0x00_09_0a_0b
reg 3: 0x00_00_00_00
On the wire, you would then have seen:
Sr Addr Wr [A] 04 A 03 A 02 A 01 A 08 A 07 A 06 A 05 A 0b A 0a A 09 A P
But the correct data transmission was expected to be
Sr Addr Wr [A] 01 A 02 A 03 A 04 A 05 A 06 A 07 A 08 A 09 A 0a A 0b A P
Because of this multi-byte ordering problem, only single byte i2c_write()
operations were executed correctly (on the wire).
By shifting the byte directly to the correct end position in the register,
it is possible to avoid this incorrect byte ordering and fix multi-byte
transmissions.
The second initialization (to 0) of vals was also be dropped because this
array is initialized to 0 on the stack by using `= {};`. This makes the
fix a lot more readable.

The data->block[0] variable comes from user. Without proper check,
the variable may be very large to cause an out-of-bounds bug.
Fix this bug by checking the value of data->block[0] first.

If the channel selection or deselection times out, it indicates
a failure in the mux's I2C subsystem. Without sending a reset pulse,
a power-on-reset of the entire device would be required to restore
communication.
The datasheet specifies a minimum hold time of 4 ns for the reset
pulse, but due to the path's capacitance and themux having its own
clock, it is recommended to extend this to approximately 1 us.
Since reset controller is used, there is no need to take care of other
devices sharing the same reset line.

The conversion of all GPIO drivers to using the .set_rv() and
.set_multiple_rv() callbacks from struct gpio_chip (which - unlike their
predecessors - return an integer and allow the controller drivers to
indicate failures to users) is now complete and the legacy ones have
been removed. Rename the new callbacks back to their original names in
one sweeping change.

If an error occurs in the loop that creates the device adapters, then a
reference to 'dev' still needs to be released.
Use for_each_child_of_node_scoped() to both fix the issue and save one line
of code.

This patch fixes an issue where the touchpad cursor movement becomes
slow on the Dell Precision 5560. Force the touchpad freq to 100khz
as a workaround.
Tested on Dell Precision 5560 with 6.14 to 6.14.6. Cursor movement
is now smooth and responsive.

When the first driver for Apple Silicon was upstreamed we accidentally
included `default ARCH_APPLE` in its Kconfig which then spread to almost
every subsequent driver. As soon as ARCH_APPLE is set to y this will
pull in many drivers as built-ins which is not what we want.
Thus, drop `default ARCH_APPLE` from Kconfig.

Update the I2C frequency table to match the recommended values
specified in the I2C hardware programming guide. In the current IPQ5424
configuration where 32MHz is the source clock, the I2C bus frequencies do
not meet expectations—for instance, 363KHz is achieved instead of the
expected 400KHz.

Calling dma_sync_*() on a buffer from dma_alloc_coherent() is pointless.
The driver should not be doing its own bounce-buffering if the buffer is
allocated through dma_alloc_coherent().

For controllers that has an internal software reset, make the reset
property optional. This provides and option to use I2C in systems
that choose to restrict reset control from Linux or not to implement
the ACPI _RST method.
Internal reset was not required when the reset control was mandatory.
But on platforms where the resets are outside the control of Linux,
this had to be implemented by just returning success from BPMP or with
an empty _RST method in the ACPI table, basically ignoring the reset.
While the internal reset is not identical to the hard reset of the
controller, this will reset all the internal state of the controller
including FIFOs. This may slightly alter the behaviour in systems
which were ignoring the reset but it should not cause any functional
difference since all the required I2C registers are configured after
this reset, just as in boot. Considering that this sequence is hit
during the boot or during the I2C recovery path from an error, the
internal reset provides a better alternative than just ignoring the
reset.

`i2c_*_dma_safe_msg_buf` APIs operate on a `struct i2c_msg`.
The get operation make sure the I2C buffer is DMA'able according to its
buffer length, or if the memory use is DMA coherent for example and
return a valid pointer for safe DMA access to be used.
The put operation release the pointer.
Prefer using generic API's than relying on private tests.

Before commit df6d7277e5 ("i2c: core: Do not dereference fwnode in struct
device"), i2c_unregister_device() only called fwnode_handle_put() on
of_node-s in the form of calling of_node_put(client->dev.of_node).
But after this commit the i2c_client's fwnode now unconditionally gets
fwnode_handle_put() on it.
When the i2c_client has no primary (ACPI / OF) fwnode but it does have
a software fwnode, the software-node will be the primary node and
fwnode_handle_put() will put() it.
But for the software fwnode device_remove_software_node() will also put()
it leading to a double free:

Rework the read and write code paths in the driver to support operation
in atomic contexts. To achieve this, the driver must not rely on IRQs
or perform any scheduling, e.g., via a sleep or schedule routine.
Implement atomic, sleep-free, and IRQ-less operation. This increases
complexity but is necessary for atomic I2C transfers required by some
hardware configurations, e.g., to trigger reboots on an external PMIC chip.

Original logic only sets the return value but doesn't jump out of the
loop if the bus is kept active by a client. This is not expected. A
malicious or buggy i2c client can hang the kernel in this case and
should be avoided. This is observed during a long time test with a
PCA953x GPIO extender.
Fix it by changing the logic to not only sets the return value, but also
jumps out of the loop and return to the caller with -ETIMEDOUT.

The current implementation uses wait_for_completion(), which can cause
the caller to hang indefinitely if the transfer never completes.
Switch to wait_for_completion_interruptible() so that the operation can
be interrupted by signals.

The acpi_evaluate_object() returns an ACPI error code and not
Linux one. For the some platforms the err will have positive code
which may be interpreted incorrectly. Use device_reset() for
reset control which handles it correctly.

Use guard to automatically release the lock after going out of scope
instead of calling it manually.
i2c_imx_slave_handle() can safely be entered with the lock held.
Refactored the i2c_imx_isr function so that i2c_imx_master_isr
does not participate in the guard scope
So Using scoped_guard simplifies the control flow
by ensuring consistent and automatic unlock,
which improves readability without affecting correctness.

Add support for the Renesas RZ/T2H (R9A09G077) SoC, which features a
different interrupt layout for the RIIC controller. Unlike other SoCs
with individual error interrupts, RZ/T2H uses a combined error interrupt
(EEI).
Introduce a new IRQ descriptor table for RZ/T2H, along with a custom
ISR (`riic_eei_isr`) to handle STOP and NACK detection from the shared
interrupt.

In preparation for adding support for Renesas RZ/T2H and RZ/N2H SoCs,
which feature a combined error interrupt instead of individual error
interrupts per condition, update the driver to support configurable IRQ
layouts via OF data.
Introduce a new `irqs` field and `num_irqs` count in `riic_of_data` to
allow future SoCs to provide a custom IRQ layout. This patch is a
non-functional change for existing SoCs and maintains compatibility with
the current `riic_irqs` array.

The irq resource itself can be used as a generic way to
determine when polling is needed.
This not only removes the need for special additional device
properties that would soon be needed when the platform may
or may not have the irq, but it also removes the need to
check the platform in the first place in order to determine
is polling needed or not.

Before each I2C transfer using DMA, the I2C buffer is DMA'pped to make
sure the memory buffer is DMA'able. This is handle in the function
`stm32_i2c_prep_dma_xfer()`.
If the transfer fails for any reason the I2C buffer must be unmap.
Use the dma_callback to factorize the code and fix this issue.
Note that the `stm32f7_i2c_dma_callback()` is now called in case of DMA
transfer success and error and that the `complete()` on the dma_complete
completion structure is done inconditionnally in case of transfer
success or error as well as the `dmaengine_terminate_async()`.
This is allowed as a `complete()` in case transfer error has no effect
as well as a `dmaengine_terminate_async()` on a transfer success.
Also fix the unneeded cast and remove not more needed variables.

If an error occurs after pm_runtime_use_autosuspend(), a corresponding
pm_runtime_dont_use_autosuspend() should be called.
In case of error in pm_runtime_resume_and_get(), it is not the case because
the error handling path is wrongly ordered.

Calling dev_pm_domain_attach()/dev_pm_domain_detach() in bus driver
probe/remove functions can affect system behavior when the drivers
attached to the bus use devres-managed resources. Since devres actions
may need to access device registers, calling dev_pm_domain_detach() too
early, i.e., before these actions complete, can cause failures on some
systems. One such example is Renesas RZ/G3S SoC-based platforms.
If the device clocks are managed via PM domains, invoking
dev_pm_domain_detach() in the bus driver's remove function removes the
device's clocks from the PM domain, preventing any subsequent
pm_runtime_resume*() calls from enabling those clocks.
The second argument of dev_pm_domain_attach() specifies whether the PM
domain should be powered on during attachment. Likewise, the second
argument of dev_pm_domain_detach() indicates whether the domain should be
powered off during detachment.
Upcoming changes address the issue described above (initially for the
platform bus only) by deferring the call to dev_pm_domain_detach() until
after devres_release_all() in device_unbind_cleanup(). The detach_power_off
field in struct dev_pm_info stores the detach power off info from the
second argument of dev_pm_domain_attach().
Because there are cases where the device's PM domain power-on/off behavior
must be conditional (e.g., in i2c_device_probe()), the patch introduces
PD_FLAG_ATTACH_POWER_ON and PD_FLAG_DETACH_POWER_OFF flags to be passed
to dev_pm_domain_attach().
Finally, dev_pm_domain_attach() and its users are updated to use the newly
introduced PD_FLAG_ATTACH_POWER_ON and PD_FLAG_DETACH_POWER_OFF macros.
This change is preparatory.

Introducing support for smbus re-broke i2cdetect, causing it to detect
devices at every i2c address, just as it did prior to being fixed in
commit 49e1f0fd0d ("i2c: microchip-core: fix "ghost" detections").
This was caused by an oversight, where the new smbus code failed to
check the return value of mchp_corei2c_xfer(). Check it, and propagate
any errors.

The i2c_dw_xfer_init() function requires msgs and msg_write_idx from the
dev context to be initialized.
amd_i2c_dw_xfer_quirk() inits msgs and msgs_num, but not msg_write_idx.
This could allow an out of bounds access (of msgs).

A new header fch.h was created to store registers used by different AMD
drivers. This header was included by i2c-piix4 in
commit 624b0d5696 ("i2c: piix4, x86/platform: Move the SB800 PIIX4 FCH
definitions to <asm/amd/fch.h>"). To prevent compile failures on non-x86
archs i2c-piix4 was set to only compile on x86 by commit 7e173eb82a
("i2c: piix4: Make CONFIG_I2C_PIIX4 dependent on CONFIG_X86").
This was not a good decision because loongarch and mips both actually
support i2c-piix4 and set it enabled in the defconfig.
Move the header to a location accessible by all architectures.

irq_domain_create_simple() takes fwnode as the first argument. It can be
extracted from the struct device using dev_fwnode() helper instead of
using of_node with of_fwnode_handle(). So use the dev_fwnode() helper.

It already depends on X86_32, but that's also set for ARCH=um.
Recent changes made UML no longer have IO port access since
it's not needed, but this driver uses it. Build it only for
HAS_IOPORT. This is pretty much the same as depending on X86,
but on the off-chance that HAS_IOPORT will ever be optional
on x86 HAS_IOPORT is the real prerequisite.

in the platform driver to detect the matching adapter for

Add definition of amdisp i2c adapter name in a new header file

Check if the adapter name is already set in the driver prior to
initializing with generic name in i2c_dw_probe_master(). This
check allows to retain the unique adapter name driver has
initialized, which platform driver can use to distinguish it
from other i2c designware adapters.

usb_control_msg(). If the message is now a read and of length 0, it
violates the USB protocol and a warning will be printed. Enable the
I2C_AQ_NO_ZERO_LEN_READ quirk for this adapter thus forbidding 0-length
read messages altogether.

Acknowledge the byte count submitted by the target.
When I2C_SMBUS_BLOCK_DATA read operation is executed by
i2c_smbus_xfer_emulated(), the length of the second (read) message is set
to 1. Length of the block is supposed to be obtained from the target by the
underlying bus driver.
The i2c_imx_isr_read() function should emit the acknowledge on i2c bus
after reading the first byte (i.e., byte count) while processing such
message (as defined in Section 6.5.7 of System Management Bus
Specification [1]). Without this acknowledge, the target does not submit
subsequent bytes and the controller only reads 0xff's.
In addition, store the length of block data obtained from the target in
the buffer provided by i2c_smbus_xfer_emulated() - otherwise the first
byte of actual data is erroneously interpreted as length of the data
block.

If spacemit_i2c_xfer_msg() times out waiting for a message transfer to
complete, or if the hardware reports an error, it returns a negative
error code (-ETIMEDOUT, -EAGAIN, -ENXIO. or -EIO).
The sole caller of spacemit_i2c_xfer_msg() is spacemit_i2c_xfer(),
which is the i2c_algorithm->xfer callback function. It currently
does not save the value returned by spacemit_i2c_xfer_msg().
The result is that transfer errors go unreported, and a caller
has no indication anything is wrong.
When this code was out for review, the return value *was* checked
in early versions. But for some reason, that assignment got dropped
between versions 5 and 6 of the series, perhaps related to reworking
the code to merge spacemit_i2c_xfer_core() into spacemit_i2c_xfer().
Simply assigning the value returned to "ret" fixes the problem.

The 64-bit division in mlxbf_i2c_get_ticks() causes link failures
when compile-testing on 32-bit machines:
ERROR: modpost: "__udivdi3" [drivers/i2c/busses/i2c-mlxbf.ko] undefined!
Change this to a div_u64(), which should replace the constant division
with a a multiply/shift combination in the mlxbf_i2c_get_ticks().
The frequency calculation functions require a slow library call but
should be used much rarer.

Converting the WARN_ON() to a dev_dbg() message in
i2c_dw_clk_rate().
That removes the need to supply a dummy implementation for
the callback (or alternatively a dummy clk device) when the
fallback path is preferred where the existing values already
in the clock registers are used - when a firmware has
programmed the clock registers.
The fallback path was introduced in commit 4fec76e098
("i2c: designware: Fix wrong setting for {ss,fs,hs}_{h,l}cnt
registers").

Replaced pm_runtime_put() with pm_runtime_put_sync_suspend() to ensure
the runtime suspend is invoked immediately when unregistering a slave.
This prevents a race condition where suspend was skipped when
unregistering and registering slave in quick succession.
For example, consider the rapid sequence of
`delete_device -> new_device -> delete_device -> new_device`.
In this sequence, it is observed that the dw_i2c_plat_runtime_suspend()
might not be invoked after `delete_device` operation.
This is because after `delete_device` operation, when the
pm_runtime_put() is about to trigger suspend, the following `new_device`
operation might race and cancel the suspend.
If that happens, during the `new_device` operation,
dw_i2c_plat_runtime_resume() is skipped (since there was no suspend), which
means `i_dev->init()`, i.e. i2c_dw_init_slave(), is skipped.
Since i2c_dw_init_slave() is skipped, i2c_dw_configure_fifo_slave() is
skipped too, which leaves `DW_IC_INTR_MASK` unconfigured. If we inspect
the interrupt mask register using devmem, it will show as zero.

Update the I2C bus timing configuration on BlueField to match the
configuration recommended and verified by the HW team.
I2C block read failures were found on BlueField 3 during communication
with a device that requires the use of repeated start conditions.
Testing showed that these failures were caused by the I2C transaction
getting aborted early due to a short bus "timeout" configuration value.
This value determines how long the clock can be held low before the I2C
transaction is aborted.
Upon further inspection, it was also found that other I2C bus timing
configuration values used by the kernel driver do not match the
configuration that is recommended by the HW team and used in the
BlueField BSP I2C drivers.

The AMD Image Signal Processor I2C functionality is only present on AMD
platforms with ISP support, and its platform device is instantiated by
the AMD ISP driver. Hence add a dependency on DRM_AMD_ISP, to prevent
asking the user about this driver when configuring a kernel that does
not support the AMD ISP.

Some I2C ATRs can have other I2C ATRs as children. The I2C messages of
the child ATRs need to be forwarded as-is if the parent I2C ATR can
only do static mapping.
In the case of GMSL, the deserializer I2C ATR actually doesn't have I2C
address remapping hardware capabilities, but it is able to select which
GMSL link to talk to, allowing it to change the address of the
serializer.
The child ATRs need to have their alias pools defined in such a way to
prevent overlapping addresses between them, but there's no way around
this without orchestration between multiple ATR instances.
To allow for this use-case, add a flag that allows unmapped addresses
to be passed through, since they are already remapped by the child ATRs.
There's no case where an address that has not been remapped by the child
ATR will hit the parent ATR.

Some I2C ATRs do not support dynamic remapping, only static mapping
of direct children.
Mappings will only be added or removed as a result of devices being
added or removed from a child bus.
The ATR pool will have to be big enough to accommodate all devices
expected to be added to the child buses.
Add a new flag that prevents old mappings to be replaced or new mappings
to be created in the alias finding code paths. That mens adding a flags
parameter to i2c_atr_new() and an i2c_atr_flags enum.

The i2c_atr_get_mapping_by_addr() function handles three separate
usecases: finding an existing mapping, creating a new mapping, or
replacing an existing mapping if a new mapping cannot be created
because there aren't enough aliases available.
Split up the function into three different functions handling its
individual usecases to prepare for better usage of each one.

When we have an ATR, and another ATR as a subdevice of the first ATR,
we get lockdep warnings for the i2c_atr.lock and
i2c_atr_chan.orig_addrs_lock. This is because lockdep uses a static key
for the locks, and doesn't see the locks of the separate ATR instances
as separate.
Fix this by generating a dynamic lock key per lock instance.

Some SMBus controllers may restrict writes to addresses where SPD sensors
may reside. This may lead to some SPD sensors not functioning correctly,
and might need extra handling. Introduce new SPD-instantiating functions
that are aware of this, and use them instead.

Implement I2C bus recovery support for the RIIC controller by making use
of software-controlled SCL and SDA line manipulation. The controller allows
forcing SCL and SDA levels through control bits, which enables generation
of manual clock pulses and a stop condition to free a stuck bus.
This implementation wires up the bus recovery mechanism using
i2c_generic_scl_recovery and provides get/set operations for SCL and SDA.
This allows the RIIC driver to recover from bus hang scenarios where SDA
is held low by a slave.

The hardware (supposedly) has a 25ms timeout for clock stretching
and the driver uses 100ms which should be plenty.
The interrupt path however misses handling for errors while waiting for
the completion and the polling path uses an open-coded readx_poll_timeout.
Note that we drop reg_write(smbus, REG_SMSTA, status) while fixing those
issues here which will be done anyway whenever the next transaction starts
via pasemi_smb_clear.

The I2C bus can get stuck under some conditions (desync between
controller and device). The pasemi controllers include an unjam feature
that is enabled on reset, but was being disabled by the driver. Keep it
enabled by explicitly setting the UJM bit in the CTL register. This
should help recover the bus from certain conditions, which would
otherwise remain stuck forever.

Add functions to perform block read and write operations. This applies
for cases where the requested operation is for >8 bytes of data.
When not using the block mode transfer, the driver will attempt a series
of 8 byte i2c operations until it reaches the desired total. For
example, for a 40 byte request the driver will complete 5 separate
transactions. This results in large transactions taking a significant
amount of time to process.
Add block mode such that the driver can request larger transactions, up
to 1024 bytes per transfer.
Many aspects of the block mode transfer is common with the regular 8
byte operations. Use generic functions for parts of the message
construction and sending the message. The key difference for the block
mode is the usage of separate FIFO buffer to store data.
Write to this buffer in the case of a write (before command send).
Read from this buffer in the case of a read (after command send).
Data is written into this buffer by placing data into the MSB onwards.
This means the bottom 8 bits of the data will match the top 8 bits, and
so on and so forth.
Set specific bits in message for block mode, enable block mode transfers
from global i2c management registers, construct message, send message,
read or write from FIFO buffer as required.
The block-mode transactions result in a significant speed increase in
large i2c requests.

If one of the lines are stuck try to recover them first before failing.

The PCC driver now handles mapping and unmapping of shared memory
areas as part of pcc_mbox_{request,free}_channel(). Without these before,
this xgene-slimpro I2C driver did handling of those mappings like several
other PCC mailbox client drivers.
There were redundant operations, leading to unnecessary code. Maintaining
the consistency across these driver was harder due to scattered handling
of shmem.
Just use the mapped shmem and remove all redundant operations from this
driver.

irq_domain_add_linear() is going away as being obsolete now. Switch to
the preferred irq_domain_create_linear(). That differs in the first
parameter: It takes more generic struct fwnode_handle instead of struct
device_node. Therefore, of_fwnode_handle() is added around the
parameter.
Note some of the users can likely use dev->fwnode directly instead of
indirect of_fwnode_handle(dev->of_node). But dev->fwnode is not
guaranteed to be set for all, so this has to be investigated on case to
case basis (by people who can actually test with the HW).

When the list_for_each_entry_reverse() exits without hitting a break
then the list cursor points to invalid memory. So this check for
if (c2a->fixed) is checking bogus memory. Fix it by using a "found"
variable to track if we found what we were looking for or not.
The list head (i2c_atr_chan.alias_pairs) is not a full entry, it's just
a struct list_head. When the for loop runs to completion, c2a doesn't
point to a struct i2c_atr_alias_pair, so you can't access c2a->fixed.

The i2c-atr module keeps a list of associations between I2C client aliases
and I2C addresses. This represents the address translation table which is
programmed into an ATR channel at any given time. This list is only updated
when a new client is bound to the channel.
However in some cases, an ATR channel can have more downstream clients than
available aliases. One example of this is an SFP module that is bound to an
FPC202 port. The FPC202 port can only access up to two logical I2C
addresses. However, the SFP module may expose up to three logical I2C
addresses: its EEPROM on 7-bit addresses 0x50 and 0x51, and a PHY
transceiver on address 0x56.
In cases like these, it is necessary to reconfigure the channel's
translation table on the fly, so that all three I2C addresses can be
accessed when needed.
As there are currently no known ATR's which do not support dynamic address
translation, this feature can be enabled by default without breaking
existing use cases.
Modify the i2c-atr module to provide on-the-fly address translation. This
is achieved by modifying an ATR channel's translation table whenever an I2C
transaction with unmapped clients is requested.
Add a mutex to protect alias_list. This prevents
i2c_atr_dynamic_attach/detach_addr from racing with the bus notifier
handler to modify alias_list.

Some I2C address translators (ATRs) assign each of their remote peripheral
aliases to a specific channel. To properly handle these devices, add
support for having separate alias pools for each ATR channel.
This is achieved by allowing callers of i2c_atr_add_adapter to pass an
optional alias list. If present, this list will be used to populate the
channel's alias pool. Otherwise, the common alias pool will be used.

The "alias_list" field of struct i2c_atr_chan describes translation table
entries programmed in the ATR channel. This terminology will become more
confusing when per-channel alias pool support is introduced, as struct
i2c_atr_chan will gain a new field called "alias_pool", which will describe
aliases which are available to the ATR channel.
Rename the "alias_list" field to "alias_pairs" to clearly distinguish it
from the future "alias_pool" field.
No functional change is intended.

Each I2C address translator (ATR) has a pool of client aliases which can be
used as translation targets. Some ATRs have a single alias pool shared by
all downstream channels, while others have a separate alias pool for each
channel. Currently, this alias pool is represented by the "aliases",
"num_aliases", and "use_mask" fields of struct i2c_atr.
In preparation for adding per-channel alias pool support, move the
"aliases", "num_aliases", "use_mask" and associated lock to a new struct
called "struct alias_pool".

The I2C Address Translator (ATR) module defines mappings from i2c_client
structs to aliases. However, only the physical address of each i2c_client
struct is actually relevant to the workings of the ATR module. Moreover,
some drivers require address translation functionality but do not allocate
i2c_client structs, accessing the adapter directly instead. The SFP
subsystem is an example of this.
Replace the "i2c_client" field of the i2c_atr_alias_pair struct with a u16
"addr" field. Rewrite helper functions and callbacks as needed.

The bcm_iproc_i2c_init() always returns 0. As a result, there
is no need to check its return value or handle errors.
This patch changes the prototype of bcm_iproc_i2c_init() to
return void and removes the redundant error handling code after
calls to bcm_iproc_i2c_init() in both the bcm_iproc_i2c_probe()
and bcm_iproc_i2c_resume().

With the current settings, the I2C buses are achieving around 370KHz
instead of the expected 400KHz. For 100KHz and 1MHz, the settings are
now more compliant and adhere to the Qualcomm’s internal programming
guide.
Update the I2C frequency table to align with the recommended values
outlined in the I2C hardware programming guide, ensuring proper
communication and performance.

Commit 95a8ca229032 ("i2c: spacemit: add support for SpacemiT K1
SoC") introduced a check in the probe function to warn the user
if the DTS has incorrect frequency settings. In such cases, the
driver falls back to default values.
However, the return value of of_property_read_u32() was not
stored, making the check ineffective. Fix this by storing the
return value in 'ret' and evaluating it properly.

This patch introduces basic I2C support for the SpacemiT K1 SoC,
utilizing interrupts for transfers.
The driver has been tested using i2c-tools on a Bananapi-F3 board,
and basic I2C read/write operations have been confirmed to work.

The driver gives the illusion of 10-bit address support, but the upper
3 bits of the given address are always thrown away. Remove unnecessary
considerations for 10 bit addressing and always complete 7 bit ops when
using the hlc methods.

Switch to iomapped register access as a prerequisite for adding
support for MMIO register access.
This changes replaces the delayed inb_p()/outb_p() calls with calls to
ioread8()/iowrite8() which don't have this extra delay. According to
Documentation/driver-api/device-io.rst the _p versions are needed
for ISA device access only, therefore switching to the non-delayed
versions should not cause problems. However a certain risk remains,
which on the other hand is significantly reduced by the fact that
recent systems will use MMIO instead of PIO. ICH7 datasheet from 2012
mentions already that SMBus register space is also memory-mapped.
So all systems from at least the last 10 yrs should be safe.

irq allocated with devm_request_irq() will be freed in devm_irq_release(),
using free_irq() in ->remove() will causes a dangling pointer, and a
subsequent double free. So remove the free_irq() in the error path and
remove path.

In my tests terminating a transaction took about 25ms, what is
in line with the chip-internal timeout as described in 5.21.3.2
"Bus Time Out" in [0]. Therefore the 2ms delay is too low.
Instead of a fixed delay let's use i801_wait_intr() here,
this also facilitates the status handling.
This potential issue seems to have been existing forever, but as no
related problem is known, treat it as an improvement.

Clock handling can be very simplified with using devm_clk_get_enabled() as
was done by commit 8d2aaf4382 ("gpio: zynq: Simplify using
devm_clk_get_enabled()").
And also fix issue in connection to incorrect sequence when err_clk_dis
label is called.
When reset_control_deassert() fails it jumps to err_clk_dis label which
disables clock and also disable pm_runtime setup but nothing has been setup
at this time of failure because initialization is done below
reset_control_deassert() call.

When the I2C QUP controller is used together with a DMA engine it needs
to vote for the interconnect path to the DRAM. Otherwise it may be
unable to access the memory quickly enough.
The requested peak bandwidth is dependent on the I2C core clock.
To avoid sending votes too often the bandwidth is always requested when
a DMA transfer starts, but dropped only on runtime suspend. Runtime
suspend should only happen if no transfer is active. After resumption we
can defer the next vote until the first DMA transfer actually happens.
The implementation is largely identical to the one introduced for
spi-qup in commit ecdaa94730 ("spi: qup: Vote for interconnect
bandwidth to DRAM") since both drivers represent the same hardware
block.

Refactor the current implementation of the high-level composite read and
write operations in preparation of the addition of block-mode read/write
operations.
The sending of the i2c command is generic and will apply for both the
block-mode and non-block-mode ops. Extract this from the current hlc
ops, and place into a generic function, octeon_i2c_hlc_cmd_send.
The considerations made for extended addresses in the command
construction are almost common for all cases, extract these into
octeon_i2c_hlc_ext. There is one difference between the extended read
and write cases. When performing extended read or writes the SW_TWSI_EXT
must be written with an extended internal address, but the data field is
only filled in the write case (read back in read case). This results in
the original code block for the read case immediately writing this
register, while the write case fills in any data and then writes the
register. To create a common block of code for both processes remove the
SW_TWSI_EXT write from within the code block and instead in it's place a
variable is set, set_ext, which is returned and used as a condition to
do the register write, in the read command case.
There are parts of the commands construction which are common (only in
the read case), extract this and place into generic function
octeon_i2c_hlc_read_cmd. This function also reads the return from
octeon_i2c_hlc_ext and completes the write to SW_TWSI_EXT if required.
The write commands cannot be made entirely into common code as there are
distinct differences in the block mode and non-block-mode process.
Particularly the writing of data into the buffer.

Apparently no other IRQ bit gets set, so this stalls.
Do not ignore enabled interrupts and make sure they are acked.
If the NACK IRQ is not needed, it should simply not enabled, but
according to the above log, caring about it is necessary unless
the Bus free IRQ is enabled and handled. The assumption that is
will always come with a ARDY IRQ, which was the idea behind
ignoring it, proves wrong.
It is true for simple reads from an unused address.
To still avoid the i2cdetect trouble which is the reason for
commit c770657bd2 ("i2c: omap: Fix standard mode false ACK readings"),
avoid doing much about NACK in omap_i2c_xfer_data() which is used
by both IRQ mode and polling mode, so also the false detection fix
is extended to polling usage and IRQ storms are avoided.
By changing this, the hardirq handler is not needed anymore to filter
stuff.
The mentioned gyro reset now just causes a -ETIMEDOUT instead of
hanging the system.

introduced a method to enable successive interrupts but inadvertently

According to the chip manual, the I2C register access type of
Loongson-2K2000/LS7A is "B", so we can only access registers in byte
form (readb()/writeb()).
Although Loongson-2K0500/Loongson-2K1000 do not have similar
constraints, register accesses in byte form also behave correctly.
Also, in hardware, the frequency division registers are defined as two
separate registers (high 8-bit and low 8-bit), so we just access them
directly as bytes.

This backend requests a NACK from the controller driver when it detects
an error. If that request gets ignored from some reason, subsequent
accesses will wrongly be handled OK. To fix this, an error now changes
the state machine, so the backend will report NACK until a STOP
condition has been detected. This make the driver more robust against
controllers which will sadly apply the NACK not to the current byte but
the next one.

When this controller is a target, the NACK handling had two issues.
First, the return value from the backend was not checked on the initial
WRITE_REQUESTED. So, the driver missed to send a NACK in this case.
Also, the NACK always arrives one byte late on the bus, even in the
WRITE_RECEIVED case. This seems to be a HW issue. We should then not
rely on the backend to correctly NACK the superfluous byte as well. Fix
both issues by introducing a flag which gets set whenever the backend
requests a NACK and keep sending it until we get a STOP condition.

More and more I2C client drivers use debugfs entries and currently they
need to manage a subdir for their files on their own. This means
inconsistent naming for these subdirs and they are scattered all over
the debugfs-tree as well. Not to mention the duplicated code.
Let the I2C core provide and maintain a proper directory per client.
Note: It was considered to save the additional pointer in 'struct
i2c_client' and only provide a subdir when requested via a helper
function. When sketching this approach, more and more corner cases
appeared, though, so the current solution with its simple and unabiguous
code was chosen.

When a 400KHz freq is used on this model of ELAN touchpad in Linux,
excessive smoothing (similar to when the touchpad's firmware detects
a noisy signal) is sometimes applied. As some devices' (e.g, Lenovo
V15 G4) ACPI tables specify a 400KHz frequency for this device and
some I2C busses (e.g, Designware I2C) default to a 400KHz freq,
force the speed to 100KHz as a workaround.
For future investigation: This problem may be related to the default
HCNT/LCNT values given by some busses' drivers, because they are not
specified in the aforementioned devices' ACPI tables, and because
the device works without issues on Windows at what is expected to be
a 400KHz frequency. The root cause of the issue is not known.

Introduce a new `riic_bus_barrier()` function to verify bus availability
before initiating an I2C transfer. This function enhances the bus
arbitration check by ensuring that the SDA and SCL lines are not held low,
in addition to checking the BBSY flag using `readb_poll_timeout()`.
Previously, only the BBSY flag was checked to determine bus availability.
However, it is possible for the SDA line to remain low even when BBSY = 0.
This new implementation performs an additional check on the SDA and SCL
lines to avoid potential bus contention issues.

Simplify the `riic_i2c_probe()` function by using the
`devm_reset_control_get_optional_exclusive_deasserted()` API to request a
deasserted reset line. This eliminates the need to manually deassert the
reset control and the additional cleanup.

Update the `riic_init_hw()` function to use the local `dev` pointer in
calls to `dev_err_probe()`. Previously, `riic_init_hw()` used
`riic->adapter.dev` in error reporting. Since this function is invoked
during the probe phase, the I2C adapter is not yet initialized, leading to
`(null) ...` being printed in error messages. This patch fixes the issue
by consistently using the local `dev` pointer, which points to
`riic->adapter.dev.parent`.

Refactor error handling in the riic_i2c_probe() and riic_init_hw()
functions by replacing multiple dev_err() calls with dev_err_probe().
Additionally, update the riic_init_hw() function to use a local `dev`
pointer instead of `riic->adapter.dev` for dev_err_probe(), as the I2C
adapter is not initialized at this stage. Drop the cast to (unsigned long)
in the riic_init_hw() function when printing the bus frequency, and update
the error message to display the frequency in Hz, improving clarity.

On the Dell Precision M6800/OXD1M5, BIOS A26 06/13/2029, Linux prints the
warning below.

Following the same suggestions by Wolfram Sang as for the Dell Precision
3540 [1], the accelerometer can be successfully found on I2C bus 0 at

Since the changes in
commit f748a07a0b ("PCI: Remove legacy pcim_release()")
all pcim_enable_device() does is set up a callback that disables the
device from being disabled from driver detach. The function
pcim_pin_device() prevents said disabling. pcim_enable_device(),
therefore, sets up an action that is removed immediately afterwards by
pcim_pin_device().
Replace pcim_enable_device() with pci_enable_device() and remove the
unnecessary call to pcim_pin_device().

i2c-atr catches the BUS_NOTIFY_DEL_DEVICE event on the bus and removes
the translation by calling i2c_atr_detach_client().
However, BUS_NOTIFY_DEL_DEVICE happens when the device is about to be
removed from this bus, i.e. before removal, and thus before calling
.remove() on the driver. If the driver happens to do any i2c
transactions in its remove(), they will fail.
Fix this by catching BUS_NOTIFY_REMOVED_DEVICE instead, thus removing
the translation only after the device is actually removed.

The reference count of the device incremented in device_initialize() is
not decremented when device_add() fails. Add a put_device() call before
returning from the function.
This bug was found by an experimental static analysis tool that I am
developing.

This is a general i2c controller feature. Some I2C devices may need the
I2C controller to remain active during resume_noirq() or suspend_noirq().
If the controller is autosuspended, there is no way to wake it up once
runtime PM disabled (in suspend_late()). During system resume, the I2C
controller will be available only after runtime PM is re-enabled
(in resume_early()). However, this may be too late for some devices.
Wake up the controller in the suspend() callback while runtime PM is
still enabled. The I2C controller will remain available until the
suspend_noirq() callback (pm_runtime_force_suspend()) is called. During
resume, the I2C controller can be restored by the resume_noirq() callback
(pm_runtime_force_resume()). Finally, the resume() callback re-enables
autosuspend. As a result, the I2C controller can remain available until
the system enters suspend_noirq() and from resume_noirq().

There are no more board file users of this driver. The platform data
structure is only used internally. Two of the four fields it stores are
not used at all anymore. Pull the remainder into the driver data struct
and shrink code by removing parts that are now dead code.

LPI2C support master controller and target controller enabled
simultaneously. Both controllers share the same SDA/SCL lines
and interrupt source but has a separate control and status
registers. When target is enabled and an interrupt has been
triggered, target register status will be checked to determine
IRQ source. Then enter the corresponding interrupt handler
function of master or target to handle the interrupt event.
This patch supports basic target data read/write operations in
7-bit target address. LPI2C target mode can be enabled by using
I2C slave backend. I2C slave backend behaves like a standard I2C
client. For simple use and test, Linux I2C slave EEPROM backend
can be used.

Add eDMA mode support for LPI2C.
There are some differences between TX DMA mode and RX DMA mode.
LPI2C MTDR register is Controller Transmit Data Register.
When lpi2c send data, it is tx cmd register and tx data fifo.
When lpi2c receive data, it is just a rx cmd register. LPI2C MRDR
register is Controller Receive Data Register, received data are
stored in this.
MTDR[8:10] is CMD field and MTDR[0:7] is DATA filed.

CMD: 000b: Transmit the value in DATA[7:0].
DATA: 8-bit data.
If lpi2c controller needs to send N 8-bit data, just write N times
(CMD(W) + DATA(u8)) to MTDR.
When the LPI2C controller needs to receive data, rx cmd should be
written into MTDR, the received data will be stored in the MRDR.
MTDR(CMD): 001b: Receive (DATA[7:0] + 1) 8-bit data.
MTDR(DATA): byte counter.
MRDR(DATA): 8-bit data.
So when lpi2c controller needs to receive N 8-bit data,
1. N <= 256:
Write 1 time (CMD(R) + BYTE COUNT(N-1)) into MTDR and receive data from
MRDR.
2. N > 256:
Write N/256 times (CMD(R) + BYTE COUNT(255)) + 1 time (CMD(R) + BYTE
COUNT(N%256)) into MTDR and receive data from MRDR.
Due to these differences, when lpi2c is in DMA TX mode, only enable TX
channel to send data. But when lpi2c is in DMA RX mode, TX and RX channel
are both enabled, TX channel is used to send RX cmd and RX channel is
used to receive data.

The AMBA bus header files do not generate compilation errors even
when the AMBA bus is not enabled in Kconfig via ARM_AMBA.
This allows the Nomadik driver to be compiled for testing
purposes with the COMPILE_TEST option enabled.
