drm/atomic: Remove state argument to drm_atomic_private_obj_init
Now that all drm_private_objs users have been converted to use
atomic_create_state instead of the old ad-hoc initialization, we can
remove the state parameter from drm_private_obj_init and the fallback
code.

drm/tegra: Switch private_obj initialization to atomic_create_state
The tegra driver relies on a drm_private_obj, that is initialized by
allocating and initializing a state, and then passing it to
drm_private_obj_init.

Since we're gradually moving away from that pattern to the more
established one relying on a atomic_create_state implementation, let's
migrate this instance to the new pattern.

c888c4c834 gpu: host1x: convert MIPI to use operation function pointers
Convert existing MIPI code to use operation function pointers, a necessary
step for supporting Tegra20/Tegra30 SoCs. All common MIPI configuration
that is SoC-independent remains in mipi.c, while all SoC-specific code is
moved to tegra114-mipi.c (The naming matches the first SoC generation with
a dedicated calibration block). Shared structures and function calls are
placed into tegra-mipi-cal.h.

bf4afc53b7 Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

69050f8d6d treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

bfef062695 drm/tegra: dsi: fix device leak on probe
Make sure to drop the reference taken when looking up the companion
(ganged) device and its driver data during probe().

Note that holding a reference to a device does not prevent its driver
data from going away so there is no point in keeping the reference.

ba3588410c host1x: Make remove callback return void
The return value of struct device_driver::remove is ignored by the core
(see device_remove() in drivers/base/dd.c). So it doesn't make sense to
let the host1x remove callback return an int just to ignore it later.

So make the callback return void. All current implementors return 0, so
they are easily converted.

Pull drm updates from Dave Airlie:
"There was a rather late merge of a new color pipeline feature, that
some userspace projects are blocked on, and has seen a lot of work in
amdgpu. This should have seen some time in -next. There is additional

  to take it.

  Highlights:
   - Arm Ethos NPU accelerator driver
   - new DRM color pipeline support

framebuffer device. Then call drm_fb_helper_single_fb_probe() to
create an fbdev screen buffer. Also release the instance on errors
by calling drm_fb_helper_release_info().

Simplifies the code and fixes the error cleanup for some of the
drivers.

Regular release of the struct fb_info instance still happens in
drm_fb_helper_fini() as before.

- remove error rollback in driver implementations (kernel test robot)
- initialize info in TTM implementation (kernel test robot)

660b299bed Revert "drm/tegra: dsi: Clear enable register if powered by bootloader"
Commit b6bcbce335 ("soc/tegra: pmc: Ensure power-domains are in a
known state") was introduced so that all power domains get initialized
to a known working state when booting and it does this by shutting them
down (including asserting resets and disabling clocks) before registering
each power domain with the genpd framework, leaving it to each driver to
later on power its needed domains.

This caused the Google Pixel C to hang when booting due to a workaround
in the DSI driver introduced in commit b22fd0b963 ("drm/tegra: dsi:
Clear enable register if powered by bootloader") meant to handle the case
where the bootloader enabled the DSI hardware module. The workaround relies
on reading a hardware register to determine the current status and after
b6bcbce335 that now happens in a powered down state thus leading to
the boot hang.

Fix this by reverting b22fd0b963 since currently we are guaranteed
that the hardware will be fully reset by the time we start enabling the
DSI module.

a16f6ba43d drm/client: Add client free callback to unprepare fb_helper
Add free callback to struct drm_client_funcs. Invoke function to
free the client memory as part of the release process. Implement
free for fbdev emulation.

Fbdev emulation allocates and prepares client memory in
drm_fbdev_client_setup(). The release happens in fb_destroy from
struct fb_ops. Multiple implementations of this callback exist in
the various drivers that provide an fbdev implementation. Each of
them needs to follow the implementation details of the fbdev setup
code.

Adding a free callback for the client puts the unprepare and release
of the fbdev client in a single place.

drm/tegra: Switch to drm_atomic_get_new_crtc_state()
The tegra atomic_check implementation uses the deprecated
drm_atomic_get_existing_crtc_state() helper.

16fdb3cc6a Revert "drm/tegra: Use dma_buf from GEM object instance"
This reverts commit 482c7e296e.

The dma_buf field in struct drm_gem_object is not stable over the
object instance's lifetime. The field becomes NULL when user space
releases the final GEM handle on the buffer object. This resulted
in a NULL-pointer deref.

Workarounds in commit 5307dce878 ("drm/gem: Acquire references on
GEM handles for framebuffers") and commit f6bfc9afc7 ("drm/framebuffer:
Acquire internal references on GEM handles") only solved the problem
partially. They especially don't work for buffer objects without a DRM
framebuffer associated.

Hence, this revert to going back to using .import_attach->dmabuf.

b146e3e03b drm/tegra: Pass along the format info from .fb_create() to drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct()
Plumb the format info from .fb_create() all the way to
drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct() to avoid the redundant

For the fbdev case a manual drm_get_format_info() lookup
is needed.

a34cc7bf10 drm: Allow the caller to pass in the format info to drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct()
Soon all drivers should have the format info already available in the
places where they call drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct(). Allow it to
be passed along into drm_helper_mode_fill_fb_struct() instead of doing
yet another redundant lookup.

Start by always passing in NULL and still doing the extra lookup.
The actual changes to avoid the lookup will follow.

to do async flips as well.

Create a new parameter for the atomic_async_check(), `bool flip`. This
parameter is used to distinguish when this function is being called from
a plane update from a full page flip.

In order to prevent regressions and such, we keep the current policy: we
skip the driver check for the primary plane, because it is always
allowed to do async flips on it.

cb2e1c2136 drm: remove driver date from struct drm_driver and all drivers
We stopped using the driver initialized date in commit 7fb8af6798
("drm: deprecate driver date") and (eventually) started returning "0"
for drm_version ioctl instead.

Finish the job, and remove the unused date member from struct
drm_driver, its initialization from drivers, along with the common
DRIVER_DATE macros.

e70140ba0d Get rid of 'remove_new' relic from platform driver struct
The continual trickle of small conversion patches is grating on me, and
is really not helping. Just get rid of the 'remove_new' member
function, which is just an alias for the plain 'remove', and had a
comment to that effect:

  /*
   * .remove_new() is a relic from a prototype conversion of .remove().
   * New drivers are supposed to implement .remove(). Once all drivers are
   * converted to not use .remove_new any more, it will be dropped.
   */

This was just a tree-wide 'sed' script that replaced '.remove_new' with
'.remove', with some care taken to turn a subsequent tab into two tabs
to make things line up.

I did do some minimal manual whitespace adjustment for places that used
spaces to line things up.

Then I just removed the old (sic) .remove_new member function, and this
is the end result. No more unnecessary conversion noise.
