The panel_bridge pointer is taken inside the loop and used after the
loop. Being a local variable, use a cleanup action to ensure it is put on
return.
Based on the code structure the panel_bridge pointer might be assigned
during multiple loop iterations. Even though this is probably not possible
in the practice, ensure there is no reference leak by putting the reference
to the old value before overwriting with the new value.

drm_bridge_connector_init() takes eight pointers to various bridges, some
of which can be identical, and stores them in pointers inside struct
drm_bridge_connector. Get a reference to each of the taken bridges and put
it on cleanup.
Achieve this by adding a drmm cleanup callback whic puts all the non-NULL
bridges. Using drmm ensures the cleanup happens on drm_device teardown,
whichever is the return value of this function.
Four of these pointers (edid, hpd, detect and modes) can be written
multiple times (up to once per loop iterations), in order to eventually
store the last matching bridge. So when one of those pointers is
overwritten, we need to put the reference that we got during the previous
assignment. Add a drm_bridge_put() before writing them to handle this.

This reverts commit 2be300f9a0.
The commit being reverted moved all the bridge_connector->bridge_*
assignments to just before the final successful return in order to handle
the bridge refcounting in a clean way.
This introduced a bug, because a bit before the successful return
drmm_connector_hdmi_cec_register() is called, which calls funcs->init()
which is drm_bridge_connector_hdmi_cec_init() which needs
bridge_connector->bridge_hdmi_cec to be set.
The reported bug may be fixed in a relatively simple way, but other similar
patterns are potentially present, so just revert the offending commit. A
different approach will be implemented.

drm_bridge_connector_init() takes eight pointers to various bridges, some
of which can be identical, and stores them in pointers inside struct
drm_bridge_connector. Get a reference to each of the taken bridges and put
it on cleanup.
This is tricky because the pointers are currently stored directly in the
drm_bridge_connector in the loop, but there is no nice and clean way to put
those pointers on error return paths. To overcome this, store all pointers
in temporary local variables with a cleanup action, and only on success
copy them into struct drm_bridge_connector (getting another ref while
copying).
Additionally four of these pointers (edid, hpd, detect and modes) can be
written in multiple loop iterations, in order to eventually store the last
matching bridge. However, when one of those pointers is overwritten, we
need to put the reference that we got during the previous assignment. Add a
drm_bridge_put() before writing them to handle this.
Finally, there is also a function-local panel_bridge pointer taken inside
the loop and used after the loop. Use a cleanup action as well to ensure it
is put on return.

According to the eDP specification (VESA Embedded DisplayPort Standard
v1.4b, Section 3.3.10.2), if the value of DP_EDP_PWMGEN_BIT_COUNT is
less than DP_EDP_PWMGEN_BIT_COUNT_CAP_MIN, the sink is required to use
the MIN value as the effective PWM bit count.
This commit updates the logic to clamp the reported
DP_EDP_PWMGEN_BIT_COUNT to the range defined by _CAP_MIN and _CAP_MAX.
As part of this change, the behavior is modified such that reading both
_CAP_MIN and _CAP_MAX registers is now required to succeed, otherwise
bl->max value could end up being not set although
drm_edp_backlight_probe_max() returned success.
This ensures correct handling of eDP panels that report a zero PWM
bit count but still provide valid non-zero MIN and MAX capability
values. Without this clamping, brightness values may be interpreted
incorrectly, leading to a dim or non-functional backlight.
For example, the Samsung ATNA40YK20 OLED panel used in the Lenovo
ThinkPad T14s Gen6 (Snapdragon) reports a PWM bit count of 0, but
supports AUX backlight control and declares a valid 11-bit range.
Clamping ensures brightness scaling works as intended on such panels.

Currently drm_bridge_connector_init() reuses the 'bridge' variable, first
as a loop variable in the long drm_for_each_bridge_in_chain() and then in
the HDMI-specific code as a shortcut to bridge_connector->bridge_cec.
We are about to remove the 'bridge' loop variable for
drm_for_each_bridge_in_chain() by moving to a scoped version of the same
macro, which implies removing the 'bridge' variable from the main function
scope. Additionally reusing the variable can make such long function less
readable.
Similarly to what commit 6f727c838ea8 ("drm/bridge-connector: Fix bridge in
drm_connector_hdmi_audio_init()") already did for the audio HDMI bridge,
use n local variable inside the scopes where it is needed as a
bridge_connector->bridge_hdmi_cec shortcut to make its scope clearer as
well as to allow removing the 'bridge' variable in an upcoming commit.

At least some panels using the LSB register are not happy with the
unconditional increase of the command buffer to 3 bytes.
With the BOE NE14QDM in my Dell Latitude 7455, the recent patches for
luminance based brightness have introduced a regression: the brightness
range stopped being contiguous and became nonsensical (it probably was
interpreting the last 2 bytes of the buffer and not the first 2).
Change from using a fixed sizeof() to a length variable that's only
set to 3 when luminance is used. Let's leave the default as 2 even for
the single-byte version, since that's how it worked before.

Core & protocols
----------------
- Wrap datapath globals into net_aligned_data, to avoid false sharing.
- Preserve MSG_ZEROCOPY in forwarding (e.g. out of a container).
- Add SO_INQ and SCM_INQ support to AF_UNIX.
- Add SIOCINQ support to AF_VSOCK.
- Add TCP_MAXSEG sockopt to MPTCP.
- Add IPv6 force_forwarding sysctl to enable forwarding per interface.
- Make TCP validation of whether packet fully fits in the receive
window and the rcv_buf more strict. With increased use of HW
aggregation a single "packet" can be multiple 100s of kB.
- Add MSG_MORE flag to optimize large TCP transmissions via sockmap,
improves latency up to 33% for sockmap users.
- Convert TCP send queue handling from tasklet to BH workque.
- Improve BPF iteration over TCP sockets to see each socket exactly once.
- Remove obsolete and unused TCP RFC3517/RFC6675 loss recovery code.
- Support enabling kernel threads for NAPI processing on per-NAPI
instance basis rather than a whole device. Fully stop the kernel NAPI
thread when threaded NAPI gets disabled. Previously thread would stick
around until ifdown due to tricky synchronization.
- Allow multicast routing to take effect on locally-generated packets.
- Add output interface argument for End.X in segment routing.
- MCTP: add support for gateway routing, improve bind() handling.
- Don't require rtnl_lock when fetching an IPv6 neighbor over Netlink.
- Add a new neighbor flag ("extern_valid"), which cedes refresh
responsibilities to userspace. This is needed for EVPN multi-homing
where a neighbor entry for a multi-homed host needs to be synced
across all the VTEPs among which the host is multi-homed.
- Support NUD_PERMANENT for proxy neighbor entries.
- Add a new queuing discipline for IETF RFC9332 DualQ Coupled AQM.
- Add sequence numbers to netconsole messages. Unregister netconsole's
console when all net targets are removed. Code refactoring.
Add a number of selftests.
- Align IPSec inbound SA lookup to RFC 4301. Only SPI and protocol
should be used for an inbound SA lookup.
- Support inspecting ref_tracker state via DebugFS.
- Don't force bonding advertisement frames tx to ~333 ms boundaries.
Add broadcast_neighbor option to send ARP/ND on all bonded links.
- Allow providing upcall pid for the 'execute' command in openvswitch.
- Remove DCCP support from Netfilter's conntrack.
- Disallow multiple packet duplications in the queuing layer.
- Prevent use of deprecated iptables code on PREEMPT_RT.
Driver API
----------
- Support RSS and hashing configuration over ethtool Netlink.
- Add dedicated ethtool callbacks for getting and setting hashing fields.
- Add support for power budget evaluation strategy in PSE /
Power-over-Ethernet. Generate Netlink events for overcurrent etc.
- Support DPLL phase offset monitoring across all device inputs.
Support providing clock reference and SYNC over separate DPLL
inputs.
- Support traffic classes in devlink rate API for bandwidth management.
- Remove rtnl_lock dependency from UDP tunnel port configuration.

Pull power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"As is tradition, cpufreq is the part with the largest number of
updates that include core fixes and cleanups as well as updates of
several assorted drivers, but there are also quite a few updates
related to system sleep, mostly focused on asynchronous suspend and
resume of devices and on making the integration of system suspend
and resume with runtime PM easier.
Runtime PM is also updated to allow some code duplication in drivers
to be eliminated going forward and to work more consistently overall
in some cases.
Apart from that, there are some driver core updates related to PM
domains that should help to address ordering issues with devm_ cleanup
routines relying on PM domains, some assorted devfreq updates
including core fixes and cleanups, tooling updates, and documentation
and MAINTAINERS updates.

Commit a3ef3c2da6 ("drm/dp: Change AUX DPCD probe address from
DPCD_REV to LANE0_1_STATUS") stopped using the DPCD_REV register for
DPCD probing, since this results in link training failures at least when
using an Intel Barlow Ridge TBT hub at UHBR link rates (the
DP_INTRA_HOP_AUX_REPLY_INDICATION never getting cleared after the failed
link training). Since accessing DPCD_REV during link training is
prohibited by the DP Standard, LANE0_1_STATUS (0x202) was used instead,
as it falls within the Standard's valid register address range
(0x102-0x106, 0x202-0x207, 0x200c-0x200f, 0x2216) and it fixed the link
training on the above TBT hub.
However, reading the LANE0_1_STATUS register also has a side-effect at
least on a Novatek eDP panel, as reported on the Closes: link below,
resulting in screen flickering on that panel. One clear side-effect when
doing the 1-byte probe reads from LANE0_1_STATUS during link training
before reading out the full 6 byte link status starting at the same
address is that the panel will report the link training as completed
with voltage swing 0. This is different from the normal, flicker-free
scenario when no DPCD probing is done, the panel reporting the link
training complete with voltage swing 2.
Using the TRAINING_PATTERN_SET register for DPCD probing doesn't have
the above side-effect, the panel will link train with voltage swing 2 as
expected and it will stay flicker-free. This register is also in the
above valid register range and is unlikely to have a side-effect as that
of LANE0_1_STATUS: Reading LANE0_1_STATUS is part of the link training
CR/EQ sequences and so it may cause a state change in the sink - even if
inadvertently as I suspect in the case of the above Novatek panel. As
opposed to this, reading TRAINING_PATTERN_SET is not part of the link
training sequence (it must be only written once at the beginning of the
CR/EQ sequences), so it's unlikely to cause any state change in the
sink.
As a side-note, this Novatek panel also lacks support for TPS3, while
claiming support for HBR2, which violates the DP Standard (the Standard
mandating TPS3 for HBR2).
Besides the Novatek panel (PSR 1), which this change fixes, I also
verified the change on a Samsung (PSR 1) and an Analogix (PSR 2) eDP
panel as well as on the Intel Barlow Ridge TBT hub.
Note that in the drm-tip tree (targeting the v6.17 kernel version) the
i915 and xe drivers keep DPCD probing enabled only for the panel known
to require this (HP ZR24w), hence those drivers in drm-tip are not
affected by the above problem.

In some application scenarios, we hope to get the corresponding
connector when the bridge's detect hook is invoked.
In most cases, we can get the connector by drm_atomic_get_connector_for_encoder
if the encoder attached to the bridge is enabled, however there will
still be some scenarios where the detect hook of the bridge is called
but the corresponding encoder has not been enabled yet. For instance,
this occurs when the device is hot plug in for the first time.
Since the call to bridge's detect is initiated by the connector, passing
down the corresponding connector directly will make things simpler.

Calling dev_pm_domain_attach()/dev_pm_domain_detach() in bus driver
probe/remove functions can affect system behavior when the drivers
attached to the bus use devres-managed resources. Since devres actions
may need to access device registers, calling dev_pm_domain_detach() too
early, i.e., before these actions complete, can cause failures on some
systems. One such example is Renesas RZ/G3S SoC-based platforms.
If the device clocks are managed via PM domains, invoking
dev_pm_domain_detach() in the bus driver's remove function removes the
device's clocks from the PM domain, preventing any subsequent
pm_runtime_resume*() calls from enabling those clocks.
The second argument of dev_pm_domain_attach() specifies whether the PM
domain should be powered on during attachment. Likewise, the second
argument of dev_pm_domain_detach() indicates whether the domain should be
powered off during detachment.
Upcoming changes address the issue described above (initially for the
platform bus only) by deferring the call to dev_pm_domain_detach() until
after devres_release_all() in device_unbind_cleanup(). The detach_power_off
field in struct dev_pm_info stores the detach power off info from the
second argument of dev_pm_domain_attach().
Because there are cases where the device's PM domain power-on/off behavior
must be conditional (e.g., in i2c_device_probe()), the patch introduces
PD_FLAG_ATTACH_POWER_ON and PD_FLAG_DETACH_POWER_OFF flags to be passed
to dev_pm_domain_attach().
Finally, dev_pm_domain_attach() and its users are updated to use the newly
introduced PD_FLAG_ATTACH_POWER_ON and PD_FLAG_DETACH_POWER_OFF macros.
This change is preparatory.

A later patch in the series will be adding debugfs files for each
ref_tracker that get created in ref_tracker_dir_init(). The format will
be "class@%px". The current "name" string can vary between
ref_tracker_dir objects of the same type, so it's not suitable for this
purpose.
Add a new "class" string to the ref_tracker dir that describes the
the type of object (sans any individual info for that object).
Also, in the i915 driver, gate the creation of debugfs files on whether
the dentry pointer is still set to NULL. CI has shown that the

move the bpc try loop out of hdmi_compute_config() and, instead, make it
part of hdmi_compute_format(), while adding a new parameter to the
latter holding the output format to be checked and eventually set.
Since this helper now also changes hdmi.output_bpc in addition to

On driver remove, sound/soc/codecs/hdmi-codec.c calls the plugged_cb

The HDMI audio helper then happily tries calling said null function

drm_dp_dpcd_write_data() can be used to write the GUID for a non-root
MST branch device, similarly to writing the GUID to a root MST branch
device, do so.

The return value on success of drm_dp_send_dpcd_write() called for
non-root MST branch devices from drm_dp_check_mstb_guid() is the number
of bytes transferred. Atm this return value (in case of a complete read)
will be regarded incorrectly as an error by the caller of
drm_dp_check_mstb_guid(). Fix this by converting the return value for a
complete read to the expected success code (0) and for a partial read to
a failure code (-EPROTO).

The helper functions drm_dp_link_power_up/down were moved to Tegra
DRM in commit 9a42c7c647 ("drm/tegra: Move drm_dp_link helpers to Tegra DRM")".
Now since more and more users are duplicating the same code in their
own drivers, it's time to make them as DRM DP common helpers again.

Pull drm updates from Dave Airlie:
"Outside of drm there are some rust patches from Danilo who maintains
that area in here, and some pieces for drm header check tests.
The major things in here are a new driver supporting the touchbar
displays on M1/M2, the nova-core stub driver which is just the vehicle
for adding rust abstractions and start developing a real driver inside
of.
xe adds support for SVM with a non-driver specific SVM core
abstraction that will hopefully be useful for other drivers, along
with support for shrinking for TTM devices. I'm sure xe and AMD
support new devices, but the pipeline depth on these things is hard to
know what they end up being in the marketplace!

drm_dp_dpcd_read_link_status() follows the "return error code or number
of bytes read" protocol, with the code returning less bytes than
requested in case of some errors. However most of the drivers
interpreted that as "return error code in case of any error". Switch
drm_dp_dpcd_read_link_status() to drm_dp_dpcd_read_data() and make it
follow that protocol too.

Existing DPCD access functions return an error code or the number of
bytes being read / write in case of partial access. However a lot of
drivers either (incorrectly) ignore partial access or mishandle error
codes. In other cases this results in a boilerplate code which compares
returned value with the size.
Implement new set of DPCD access helpers, which ignore partial access,
always return 0 or an error code.

edid-decode gained recently support to check that infoframes are
compliant and match the EDID the monitor exposes.
Since the HDMI helpers provide those infoframes in debugfs, it makes it
easy to check from userspace that the drivers (and helpers) behave
properly.
Let's document it.

The handling of the MST Connection Status Notify message is skipped if
the probing of the topology is still pending. Acquiring the
drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr::probe_lock for this in
drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req() is problematic: the task/work this function
is called from is also responsible for handling MST down-request replies
(in drm_dp_mst_handle_down_rep()). Thus drm_dp_mst_link_probe_work() -
holding already probe_lock - could be blocked waiting for an MST
down-request reply while drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req() is waiting for
probe_lock while processing a CSN message. This leads to the probe
work's down-request message timing out.
A scenario similar to the above leading to a down-request timeout is
handling a CSN message in drm_dp_mst_handle_conn_stat(), holding the
probe_lock and sending down-request messages while a second CSN message
sent by the sink subsequently is handled by drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req().
Fix the above by moving the logic to skip the CSN handling to
drm_dp_mst_process_up_req(). This function is called from a work
(separate from the task/work handling new up/down messages), already
holding probe_lock. This solves the above timeout issue, since handling
of down-request replies won't be blocked by probe_lock.

According to the DisplayPort standard, LTTPRs have two operating
modes:
- non-transparent - it replies to DPCD LTTPR field specific AUX
requests, while passes through all other AUX requests
- transparent - it passes through all AUX requests.
Switching between this two modes is done by the DPTX by issuing
an AUX write to the DPCD PHY_REPEATER_MODE register.
Add a generic helper that allows switching between these modes.
Also add a generic wrapper for the helper that handles the explicit
disabling of non-transparent mode and its disable->enable sequence
mentioned in the DP Standard v2.0 section 3.6.6.1. Do this in order
to move this handling out of the vendor specific driver implementation
into the generic framework.
