Some peripherals on RZ/G3E SoCs (SSIU, SPDIF, SCU/SRC, DVC, PFC) require
explicit ACK signal routing through the ICU for level-based DMA handshaking.
Rather than extending the DT binding with an optional second #dma-cells
(which would require all DMA consumers to supply two cells even when ACK
routing is not needed), derive the ACK signal number directly from the
MID/RID request number using the linear mapping defined in RZ/G3E hardware
manual Table 4.6-28:
PFC external DMA pins (DREQ0..DREQ4):
req_no 0x000-0x004 -> ACK No. 84-88
SSIU BUSIFs (ssip00..ssip93):
req_no 0x161-0x198 -> ACK No. 28-83
SPDIF (CH0..CH2) + SCU SRC (sr0..sr9) + DVC (cmd0..cmd1):
req_no 0x199-0x1b4 -> ACK No. 0-27
ACK routing is programmed when a channel is prepared for transfer and
cleared when the channel is released or the transfer times out, following
the same pattern as MID/RID request routing.

Convert the separately-offset phy_chans pointer to a C99 flexible array
member at the end of struct d40_base, and switch the allocation to
struct_size(). The log_chans and memcpy_chans slots continue to live
in the same allocation immediately after phy_chans, indexed via
base->log_chans. This removes the hand-rolled pointer fixup that
recomputed phy_chans from base + ALIGN(sizeof(struct d40_base), 4).
The ALIGN(sizeof(struct d40_base), 4) requirement is met implicitly by the
C compiler when using a flexible array member. With struct d40_chan
phy_chans[] as the last member, the C standard guarantees
sizeof(struct d40_base) includes trailing padding to satisfy the alignment
of the flexible array element type (struct d40_chan). Since struct d40_chan
contains members like spinlock_t, pointers, and struct dma_chan — all with
alignment ≥ 4 — the compiler ensures sizeof(struct d40_base) is already a
multiple of _Alignof(struct d40_chan) >= 4. The struct_size() macro then
computes sizeof(struct d40_base) + sizeof(struct d40_chan) * num_phy_chans,
so phy_chans[0] lands at a properly aligned offset without needing the manual
ALIGN.

Add dev_err/dev_err_probe logging across failure paths to improve
debuggability of DMA errors during runtime and probe.
Use return dev_err_probe() pattern where no cleanup is required in the
probe function. On error paths that need explicit unwind, store the
dev_err_probe() return value in ret before jumping to the cleanup label.
Also convert existing dev_err calls in probe to dev_err_probe for
consistency, and use dev_err in non-probe functions.
Keep explicit runtime PM and DMA registration unwind instead of managed or
scoped cleanup. The scoped runtime PM guard releases the usage count with
pm_runtime_put(), while this probe error path needs pm_runtime_put_sync()
before pm_runtime_disable(). The OF DMA registration failure path also
needs to unregister the DMA engine before dropping the runtime PM reference.

On an RZ/G2L-based system, it has been observed that when the DMA channels
for all enabled IPs are active (TX and RX for one serial IP, TX and RX for
one audio IP, and TX and RX for one SPI IP), shortly after all of them are
started, the system can become irrecoverably blocked. In one debug session
the system did not block, and the DMA HW registers were inspected. It was
found that the DER (Descriptor Error) bit in the CHSTAT register for one of
the SPI DMA channels was set.
According to the RZ/G2L HW Manual, Rev. 1.30, chapter 14.4.7 Channel
Status Register n/nS (CHSTAT_n/nS), description of the DER bit, the DER
bit is set when the LV (Link Valid) value loaded with a descriptor in link
mode is 0. This means that the DMA engine has loaded an invalid
descriptor (as defined in Table 14.14, Header Area, of the same manual).
The same chapter states that when a descriptor error occurs, the transfer
is stopped, but no DMA error interrupt is generated.
Set the LE bit on the last descriptor of a transfer. This informs the DMA
engine that this is the final descriptor for the transfer.

The Renesas RZ/G3S SoC supports a power saving mode in which power to most
of the SoC components is turned off, including the DMA IP. Add suspend to
RAM support to save and restore the DMA IP registers.
Cyclic DMA channels require special handling. Since they can be paused and
resumed during system suspend/resume, the driver restores additional
registers for these channels during the system resume phase. If a channel
was not explicitly paused during suspend, the driver ensures that it is
paused and resumed as part of the system suspend/resume flow.

Protect the driver exposed APIs with runtime PM suspend/resume calls
before accessing HW registers. As the current driver leaves runtime PM
enabled in probe, the purpose of the changes in this patch is to avoid
accessing HW registers after a failed system suspend leaves the runtime
PM state of the device improperly reinitialized.
In that case, the driver remains bound to the device, the APIs are still
exposed, and any access to HW registers without runtime resuming the
device may lead to synchronous aborts.
To avoid leaking resources in case of runtime PM failures, save the error
code returned by PM_RUNTIME_ACQUIRE_ERR() in rz_dmac_terminate_all() and
return it only at the end of the function to allow the cleanup code to
run. A similar approach is used in rz_dmac_free_chan_resources().
Because some exposed APIs (e.g. ->device_terminate_all()) may be called
from atomic context according to the documentation, mark the DMA device as
pm_runtime_irq_safe().
This patch prepares the driver for suspend-to-RAM support.

The driver used a mix of virt-dma APIs and driver specific logic to
process descriptors. It maintained three internal queues: ld_free,
ld_queue, and ld_active as follows:
- ld_free: stores the descriptors pre-allocated at probe time
- ld_queue: stores descriptors after they are taken from ld_free and
prepared. At the same time, vchan_tx_prep() queues them to
vc->desc_allocated. The vc->desc_allocated list is then checked in
rz_dmac_issue_pending() and rz_dmac_irq_handler_thread() before
starting a new transfer via rz_dmac_xfer_desc(). In turn,
rz_dmac_xfer_desc() grabs the next descriptor from vc->desc_issued and
submits it for transfer
- ld_active: stores the descriptors currently being transferred
The interrupt handler moved a completed descriptor to ld_free before
invoking its completion callback. Once returned to ld_free, the
descriptor can be reused to prepare a new transfer. In theory, this
means the descriptor could be re-prepared before its completion
callback is called.
Commit fully back the driver by the virt-dma APIs. With this, only ld_free
need to be kept to track how many free descriptors are available. This
is now done as follows:
- the prepare stage removes the first descriptor from the ld_free and
prepares it
- the completion calls for it vc->desc_free() (rz_dmac_virt_desc_free())
which re-adds the descriptor at the end of ld_free
With this, the critical areas in prepare callbacks were minimized to only
getting the descriptor from the ld_free list.
Introduce struct rz_dmac_chan::desc to keep track of the currently
transferred descriptor. It is cleared in rz_dmac_terminate_all(),
referenced from rz_dmac_issue_pending() to determine whether a new transfer
can be started, and from rz_dmac_irq_handler_thread() once a descriptor has
completed. Finally, the rz_dmac_device_synchronize() was updated with
vchan_synchronize() call to ensure the terminated descriptor is freed and
the tasklet is killed.
With this, residue computation is also simplified, as it can now be
handled entirely through the virt-dma APIs.
The spin_lock/unlock operations from rz_dmac_irq_handler_thread() were
replaced by guard as the final code after rework is simpler this way.
As subsequent commits will set the Link End bit on the last descriptor
of a transfer, rz_dmac_enable_hw() is also adjusted as part of the full
conversion to virt-dma APIs. It no longer checks the channel enable
status itself; instead, its callers verify whether the channel is
enabled and whether the previous transfer has completed before starting
a new one.

a common high_addr register for upper address bits, Tegra264 has separate
src_high and dst_high registers to accommodate this wider address space.
Add an addr_bits property to the device data structure to specify the
number of address bits supported on each device and use that to program
the appropriate registers.
Update the sg_req struct to remove the high_addr field and use
dma_addr_t for src and dst to store the complete addresses. Extract

- For the AMD (Xilinx) only, when a valid physical base address of

used in non-LL mode. For all the channels DMA transactions will
be using the non-LL mode only. This, the default non-LL mode,
is not applicable for Synopsys IP with the current code addition.

A single AXIDMA controller can have one or two channels. When it has two
channels, the reset for both are tied together: resetting one channel
resets the other as well. This creates a problem where resetting one
channel will reset the registers for both channels, including clearing
interrupt enable bits for the other channel, which can then lead to
timeouts as the driver is waiting for an interrupt which never comes.
The driver currently has a probe-time work around for this: when a
channel is created, the driver also resets and enables the
interrupts. With two channels the reset for the second channel will
clear the interrupt enables for the first one. The work around in the
driver is just to manually enable the interrupts again in
xilinx_dma_alloc_chan_resources().
This workaround only addresses the probe-time issue. When channels are
reset at runtime (e.g., in xilinx_dma_terminate_all() or during error
recovery), there's no corresponding mechanism to restore the other
channel's interrupt enables. This leads to one channel having its
interrupts disabled while the driver expects them to work, causing
timeouts and DMA failures.
A proper fix is a complicated matter, as we should not reset the other
channel when it's operating normally. So, perhaps, there should be some
kind of synchronization for a common reset, which is not trivial to
implement. To add to the complexity, the driver also supports other DMA
types, like VDMA, CDMA and MCDMA, which don't have a shared reset.
However, when the two-channel AXIDMA is used in the (assumably) normal
use case, providing DMA for a single memory-to-memory device, the common
reset is a bit smaller issue: when something bad happens on one channel,
or when one channel is terminated, the assumption is that we also want
to terminate the other channel. And thus resetting both at the same time
is "ok".
With that line of thinking we can implement a bit better work around
than just the current probe time work around: let's enable the
AXIDMA interrupts at xilinx_dma_start_transfer() instead.
This ensures interrupts are enabled whenever a transfer starts,
regardless of any prior resets that may have cleared them.
This approach is also more logical: enable interrupts only when needed
for a transfer, rather than at resource allocation time, and, I think,
all the other DMA types should also use this model, but I'm reluctant to
do such changes as I cannot test them.
The reset function still enables interrupts even though it's not needed
for AXIDMA anymore, but it's common code for all DMA types (VDMA, CDMA,
MCDMA), so leave it unchanged to avoid affecting other variants.

The cyclic DMA calculation is currently entirely broken and reports
residue only for the first segment. The problem is twofold.
First, when the first descriptor finishes, it is moved from active_list
to done_list, but it is never returned back into the active_list. The
xilinx_dma_tx_status() expects the descriptor to be in the active_list
to report any meaningful residue information, which never happens after
the first descriptor finishes. Fix this up in xilinx_dma_start_transfer()
and if the descriptor is cyclic, lift it from done_list and place it back
into active_list list.
Second, the segment .status fields of the descriptor remain dirty. Once
the DMA did one pass on the descriptor, the .status fields are populated
with data by the DMA, but the .status fields are not cleared before reuse
during the next cyclic DMA round. The xilinx_dma_get_residue() recognizes
that as if the descriptor was complete and had 0 residue, which is bogus.
Reinitialize the status field before placing the descriptor back into the
active_list.

The CHCTRL register has 11 bits that can be updated by software. The
documentation for all these bits states the following:
- A read operation results in 0 being read
- Writing zero does not affect the operation
All bits in the CHCTRL register accessible by software are set and clear
bits.
The documentation for the CLREND bit of CHCTRL states:
Setting this bit to 1 can clear the END bit of the CHSTAT_n/nS register.
Also, the DMA transfer end interrupt is cleared. An attempt to read this
bit results in 0 being read.
1: Clears the END bit.
0: Does not affect the operation.
Since writing zero to any bit in this register does not affect controller
operation and reads always return zero, there is no need to perform
read-modify-write accesses to set the CLREND bit. Drop the read of the

Also, since setting the CLREND bit does not interact with other

Add support for gracefully terminating hardware cyclic DMA transfers when
a new transfer is queued and is flagged with DMA_PREP_LOAD_EOT. Without
this, cyclic transfers would continue indefinitely until we brute force
it with .device_terminate_all().
When a new descriptor is queued while a cyclic transfer is active, mark
the cyclic transfer for termination. For hardware with scatter-gather
support, modify the last segment flags to trigger end-of-transfer. For
non-SG hardware, clear the CYCLIC flag to allow natural completion.
Older IP core versions (pre-4.6.a) can prefetch data when clearing the
CYCLIC flag, causing corruption in the next transfer. Work around this
by disabling and re-enabling the core to flush prefetched data.
The cyclic_eot flag tracks transfers marked for termination, preventing
new transfers from starting until the cyclic one completes. Non-EOT
transfers submitted after cyclic transfers are discarded with a warning.
Also note that for hardware cyclic transfers not using SG, we need to
make sure that chan->next_desc is also set to NULL (so we can look at
possible EOT transfers) and we also need to move the queue check to
after axi_dmac_get_next_desc() because with hardware based cyclic
transfers we might get the queue marked as full and hence we would not
be able to check for cyclic termination.

As of now, to terminate a cyclic transfer, one pretty much needs to use
brute force and terminate all transfers with .device_terminate_all().
With this change, when a cyclic transfer terminates (and generates an
EOT interrupt), look at any new pending transfer with the DMA_PREP_LOAD_EOT
flag set. If there is one, the current cyclic transfer is terminated and
the next one is enqueued. If the flag is not set, that transfer is ignored.

Others have submitted this issue (https://lore.kernel.org/dmaengine/
20240722030405.3385-1-zhengdongxiong@gxmicro.cn/),
but it has not been fixed yet. Therefore, more supplementary information
is provided here.
As mentioned in the "PCS-CCS-CB-TCB" Producer-Consumer Synchronization of
"DesignWare Cores PCI Express Controller Databook, version 6.00a":
1. The Consumer CYCLE_STATE (CCS) bit in the register only needs to be
initialized once; the value will update automatically to be
~CYCLE_BIT (CB) in the next chunk.
2. The Consumer CYCLE_BIT bit in the register is loaded from the LL
element and tested against CCS. When CB = CCS, the data transfer is
executed. Otherwise not.
The current logic sets customer (HDMA) CS and CB bits to 1 in each chunk
while setting the producer (software) CB of odd chunks to 0 and even
chunks to 1 in the linked list. This is leading to a mismatch between
the producer CB and consumer CS bits.
This issue can be reproduced by setting the transmission data size to
exceed one chunk. By the way, in the EDMA using the same "PCS-CCS-CB-TCB"
mechanism, the CS bit is only initialized once and this issue was not
found. Refer to
drivers/dma/dw-edma/dw-edma-v0-core.c:dw_edma_v0_core_start.
So fix this issue by initializing the CYCLE_STATE and CYCLE_BIT bits
only once.

Interrupt emulation can assert the dw-edma IRQ line without updating the
DONE/ABORT bits. With the shared read/write/common IRQ handlers, the
driver cannot reliably distinguish such an emulated interrupt from a
real one and leaving a level IRQ asserted may wedge the line.
Allocate a dedicated, requestable Linux virtual IRQ (db_irq) for
interrupt emulation and attach an irq_chip whose .irq_ack runs the
core-specific deassert sequence (.ack_emulated_irq()). The physical
dw-edma interrupt handlers raise this virtual IRQ via
generic_handle_irq(), ensuring emulated IRQs are always deasserted.
Export the virtual IRQ number (db_irq) and the doorbell register offset
(db_offset) via struct dw_edma_chip so platform users can expose
interrupt emulation as a doorbell.
Without this, a single interrupt-emulation write can leave the level IRQ
line asserted and cause the generic IRQ layer to disable it.

DesignWare eDMA instances support "interrupt emulation", where a
software write can assert the IRQ line without setting the normal
DONE/ABORT status bits.
Introduce core callbacks needed to support this feature:
- .ack_emulated_irq(): core-specific sequence to deassert an emulated
IRQ
- .db_offset(): offset from the DMA register base that is suitable as a
host-writable doorbell target for interrupt emulation
Implement both hooks for the v0 register map. For dw-hdma-v0, provide a
stub .db_offset() returning ~0 until the correct offset is known.
The next patch wires these hooks into the dw-edma IRQ path and exports

causing memcpy tests to fail when using the dmatest tool.
Only affect edma memcpy test when the channel is fixed.

This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split
over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the
resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next
line.
Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for
me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the
middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial.
So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the
syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed'
scripts.
The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want
whitespace cleanup anyway.

This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much
smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex()
interface.
As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute
force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather
than 'objs*'.
Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Fix a memory leak in gpi_peripheral_config() where the original memory
pointed to by gchan->config could be lost if krealloc() fails.
The issue occurs when:
1. gchan->config points to previously allocated memory
2. krealloc() fails and returns NULL
3. The function directly assigns NULL to gchan->config, losing the
reference to the original memory
4. The original memory becomes unreachable and cannot be freed
Fix this by using a temporary variable to hold the krealloc() result
and only updating gchan->config when the allocation succeeds.

Introduce sysfs interfaces for 3 new Data Streaming Accelerator (DSA)
capability registers (dsacap0-2) to enable userspace awareness of hardware
features in DSA version 3 and later devices.
Userspace components (e.g. configure libraries, workload Apps) require this
information to:
1. Select optimal data transfer strategies based on SGL capabilities
2. Enable hardware-specific optimizations for floating-point operations
3. Configure memory operations with proper numerical handling
4. Verify compute operation compatibility before submitting jobs
The output format is <dsacap2>,<dsacap1>,<dsacap0>, where each DSA
capability value is a 64-bit hexadecimal number, separated by commas.
The ordering follows the DSA 3.0 specification layout:
Offset: 0x190 0x188 0x180
Reg: dsacap2 dsacap1 dsacap0
Example:
cat /sys/bus/dsa/devices/dsa0/dsacaps
000000000000f18d,0014000e000007aa,00fa01ff01ff03ff
According to the DSA 3.0 specification, there are 15 fields defined for
the three dsacap registers. However, there's no need to define all
register structures unless a use case requires them. At this point,
support for the Scatter-Gather List (SGL) located in dsacap0 is necessary,
so only dsacap0 is defined accordingly.
For reference, the DSA 3.0 specification is available at:

In some supported platforms as ARCH_ZYNQMP, part of the memory is mapped
above 32bit addresses and since the DMA mask, by default, is set to 32bits,
we would need to rely on swiotlb (which incurs a performance penalty)
for the DMA mappings. Thus, we can write either the SRC or DEST high
addresses with 1's and read them back. The last bit set on the return
value will reflect the IP address bus width and so we can update the
device DMA mask accordingly.
While at it, support bigger that 32 bits transfers in IP without HW

If 'hw_cyclic' is false we should still be able to do cyclic transfers in
"software". That was not working for the case where 'desc->num_sgs' is 1
because 'chan->next_desc' is never set with the current desc which means
that the cyclic transfer only runs once and in the next SOT interrupt we
do nothing since vchan_next_desc() will return NULL.
