arm64: errata: Factor out broken AMU const counter cap
Move the workaround from the erratum 2457168-specific cpucap to a generic broken AMU constant-counter one. This keeps the existing Cortex-A510 handling unchanged while allowing other errata with similar AMU constant counter issue to share the capability bit and call sites. Arm:
* Add support for 'slot' based PMU events, paired with new UAPI that
compels the user to select a specific PMU implementation
* Lazy save/restore of vCPU state for pKVM, along with various fixes
and cleanups to the management of vCPU state between the untrusted
host and pKVM hypervisor
* Disable traps of EL1 registers for nested hypervisors when FEAT_NV2p1
is present, guaranteeing that EL2-specific register bits are stateful
in the EL1 counterpart
* Leverage FEAT_NV3 to avoid unnecessary ERET/TLBI traps when the scope
of those instructions remains 'in host' (i.e. L1 kernel/userspace)
* Pile of fixes for the management of the VNCR pseudo-TLB, such as
under-invalidations and races with concurrent TLBIs on other vCPUs
* Consolidate the non-protected and pKVM view of ICH_VTR_EL2 to a
runtime-patched constant, allowing the same data to be shared with
pKVM prior to dropping host privileges
* Considerable pile of LLM-assisted fixes around the shop but mostly in
the VGIC, our in-kernel generator of bugs (and sometimes interrupts)
LoongArch:
* Advertise already-supported capabilities.
* Some bug fixes about timer and MMIO.
* Some hardening about interrupt injection.
* Replace kvm_err() with kvm_pr_unimpl().
* Add FPU/LSX/LASX test cases for selftests.
RISC-V:
* Svadu/Zicfiss/Zicfilp FWFT support for Guest
* Use try_cmpxchg for IMSIC MRIF RMW
* More arch-specific tracepoints in KVM RISC-V
* Eager page splitting when enabling dirty logging
* Optimize hfence request handling for SMP Guests
* Improve dirty log clearing by skipping zero bits in mask
* Guard HFENCE range loops against overflow
* CPU PM notifiers in KVM RISC-V for non-retentive idle states
* Fix kernel-mode vector context save/restore for Guest
s390:
* Fixes for vfio-ap
* Fixes for the gmap rework
* Fixes for vsie
* AI triggered fixes all over
* diag9c tracing
* code move preparation for the additional arm64 support
* enable CONTEXT_ANALYSIS
x86:
* Perform spring cleaning on x86.{c,h} and asm/kvm_host.h, by adding regs.c
(the kvm_cache_regs.h => regs.h is already applied) and msrs.{c,h}, and moving
relevant code out of x86.c.
* Split kvm_mmu in three parts, respectively to describe the format of page
tables, walking the guest page tables and building the page tables. Always
use the same page table walker kvm->arch.gva_walk as the entry point to
convert a guest's virtual address, where the previous code used two
different kvm_mmu structs depending on whether the walk included nested
EPT/NPT or not. Make page fault vmexits reuse the permission checking
machinery that is used for guest page faults. This is both a cleanup
and a baby step towards supporting XS/XU memory permissions.
* Document some of the "fun" gotchas with the APIC base when creating IRQCHIPs
on x86.
* Remove a defunct masterclock update from kvm_xen_shared_info_init(). It
could result in incorrect kvmclock due to triggering an unnecessary
switch to/from masterclock mode.
* Skip Xen runstate time updates if time has effectively gone backwards, so
that the guest doesn't report 100% steal time for a very, very long time.
* Drop KVM's runtime updates of the Xen PV timing CPUID leaf, as KVM was
updating the wrong sub-leaf, and upstream KVM will soon provide all the
information needed by userspace to populate the CPUID field itself.
* Fix a bug where KVM would walk a newly created rmap without holding the rmap
lock (or mmu_lock) during aging.
* Fix a bug where aging TDP MMU SPTEs could clobber FROZEN SPTEs.
* Fix a variety of #DB priority bugs.
* Fix a class of races related to enabling Hyper-V emulation on a vCPU after
the vCPU is visible to the rest of KVM.
* Use static calls for nested virtualization ops.
* Move more KVM-internal code out of x86's kvm_host.h.
* Enumerate support for a variety of Zhaoxin instructions that don't require
explicit virtualization.
* Fix missing EFER validation bugs, including in the KVM_SET_SREGS* path.
* Harden kvm_vcpu_map() against double-mapping and thus leaking references.
* Misc fixes and cleanups, e.g. for largely benign syzkaller splats.
x86 (Intel):
* Zero a vCPU's entry in VMX's Posted Interrupt Descriptor table used for IPI
virtualization when the vCPU is freed, to fix a use-after-free where hardware
will write to a freed vCPU's PID.
* Service local TLB flushes on a failed nested VM-Enter to fix a bug where KVM
could miss a TLB on a future, successful VM-Enter with the same L2 VPID.
* Cap the maximum value shoved into the VMX Preemption Timer to workaround an
erratum that affects all existing Intel CPUs that support CPUID 0x15.
* Fix VPID virtualization bugs where KVM would fail to flush hardware TLBs.
* Harden the TDX "populate" ioctls against bad input, and to prepare
for supporting in-place private<=>shared conversion.
x86 (AMD):
* Forcefully invalidate SNP VMSA pages if their backing guest_memfd page is
zapped/invalidated, e.g. due to a PUNCH_HOLE in response to a Page-State
Change request.
* Remove a dying VM from the GA Log notifier list before the VM is actually
destroyed, to fix a potential use-after-free.
* While FOLL_WRITE was needed in the past to trigger CoW unsharing, nowadays
FOLL_LONGTERM does that already even without FOLL_WRITE, and in fact,
get_user_pages() actually disallows FOLL_WRITE together with FOLL_LONGTERM.
So don't pass FOLL_WRITE when registering encrypted memory regions, i.e. when
pinning SEV/SEV-ES guest memory, to fix a regression with file-backed memory
introduced by KVM's (correct) usage of long-term pins.

arm64: cpucaps: Remove stale comment about keeping capabilities sorted
There is no functional requirement to keep the entries in arm64's tools/cpucaps file sorted alphabetically and, in fact, they have fallen out of order over time. Given that only the arm64 tree touches this file and the perceived benefit of sorting was to help with conflicts, just remove the stale comment and accept that we're collectively not very good at the alphabet. In the limited cases where a specific ordering is important, we enforce it through build-time assertions (e.g. in can_use_gic_priorities()). arm64: errata: work around NVIDIA Olympus device store/load ordering
On systems with NVIDIA Olympus cores, a Device-nGnR* load can be
observed by a peripheral before an older, non-overlapping Device-nGnR*
store to the same peripheral. This breaks the program-order guarantee
that software expects for Device-nGnR* accesses and can leave a
peripheral in an incorrect state.
The erratum can occur only when all of the following apply:
- A PE executes a Device-nGnR* store followed by a younger
Device-nGnR* load.
- The store is not a store-release.
- The accesses target the same peripheral and do not overlap in bytes.
- There is at most one intervening Device-nGnR* store in program
order, and there are no intervening Device-nGnR* loads.
- There is no DSB or full DMB between the store and the load.
- Specific microarchitectural and timing conditions occur.
Insert a DMB OSH immediately before each raw MMIO load on affected CPUs.
As a full barrier, DMB OSH orders the older Device store before the
younger Device load and prevents the erroneous observation.
Add the barrier directly to the __raw_read*() helpers, independently of
the existing device-load-acquire alternative. On affected CPUs this adds
one DMB OSH per raw MMIO load, including each load used by
memcpy_fromio(). On unaffected CPUs the alternative remains a NOP.

arm64: Clarify ARM64_WORKAROUND_REPEAT_TLBI semantics
Will notes that the ARM64_WORKAROUND_REPEAT_TLBI name is potentially misleading, and that it would be nice to rename that and add some documentation. See: https://lore.kernel.org/linux-arm-kernel/ajKn_Pt50CmOUrsP@willie-the-truck/ To that end, I've renamed the Kconfig symbol and hwcap from: [CONFIG_]ARM64_WORKAROUND_REPEAT_TLBI ... to: [CONFIG_]ARM64_WORKAROUND_REPEAT_TLBI_SYNC ... and I've added some rationale alongside the Kconfig. As the Kconfig symbol isn't user selectable, the usual 'help' section won't appear in menuconfig, so I've added this as a comment. The rename was scripted with: git grep -l REPEAT_TLBI | while read F; do sed -i '{ s/WORKAROUND_REPEAT_TLBI\>/WORKAROUND_REPEAT_TLBI_SYNC/g }' $F; done Bikeshedding-wise, I considered a few names, including: * ARM64_WORKAROUND_REPEAT_TLBI_SYNC * ARM64_WORKAROUND_TLBI_REPEAT_SYNC * ARM64_WORKAROUND_BROADCAST_TLBI_REPEAT_SYNC ... and I settled on ARM64_WORKAROUND_REPEAT_TLBI_SYNC to try keep things simple, and to avoid unnecessary churn caused by moving definitions to retain alphabetical order. KVM: arm64: Move GICv3 broken SEIS implementation detection to a CPU errrata
Using is_midr_in_range_list() in a noinstr function isn't a good idea. And yet kvm_compute_ich_hcr_trap_bits() is doing that by calling vgic_v3_broken_seis(). Move all the broken SEIS detection logic to the errata detection framework, and use a new ARM64_WORKAROUND_GICv3_BROKEN_SEIS cap to indicate that we're running on broken CPUs. This reuses the MIDR list used for IMPDEF PMU detection, which has a 100% overlap with the SEIS stuff... arm64: errata: Work around early CME DVMSync acknowledgement
C1-Pro acknowledges DVMSync messages before completing the SME/CME memory accesses. Work around this by issuing an IPI to the affected CPUs if they are running in EL0 with SME enabled. Note that we avoid the local DSB in the IPI handler as the kernel runs with SCTLR_EL1.IESB=1. This is sufficient to complete SME memory accesses at EL0 on taking an exception to EL1. On the return to user path, no barrier is necessary either. See the comment in sme_set_active() and the more detailed explanation in the link below. To avoid a potential IPI flood from malicious applications (e.g. madvise(MADV_PAGEOUT) in a tight loop), track where a process is active via mm_cpumask() and only interrupt those CPUs. arm64: errata: Workaround for SI L1 downstream coherency issue
When software issues a Cache Maintenance Operation (CMO) targeting a
dirty cache line, the CPU and DSU cluster may optimize the operation by
combining the CopyBack Write and CMO into a single combined CopyBack
Write plus CMO transaction presented to the interconnect (MCN).
For these combined transactions, the MCN splits the operation into two
separate transactions, one Write and one CMO, and then propagates the
write and optionally the CMO to the downstream memory system or external
Point of Serialization (PoS).
However, the MCN may return an early CompCMO response to the DSU cluster
before the corresponding Write and CMO transactions have completed at
the external PoS or downstream memory. As a result, stale data may be
observed by external observers that are directly connected to the
external PoS or downstream memory.
This erratum affects any system topology in which the following
conditions apply:
- The Point of Serialization (PoS) is located downstream of the
interconnect.
- A downstream observer accesses memory directly, bypassing the
interconnect.
Conditions:
This erratum occurs only when all of the following conditions are met:
1. Software executes a data cache maintenance operation, specifically,
a clean or clean&invalidate by virtual address (DC CVAC or DC
CIVAC), that hits on unique dirty data in the CPU or DSU cache.
This results in a combined CopyBack and CMO being issued to the
interconnect.
2. The interconnect splits the combined transaction into separate Write
and CMO transactions and returns an early completion response to the
CPU or DSU before the write has completed at the downstream memory
or PoS.
3. A downstream observer accesses the affected memory address after the
early completion response is issued but before the actual memory
write has completed. This allows the observer to read stale data
that has not yet been updated at the PoS or downstream memory.
The implementation of workaround put a second loop of CMOs at the same
virtual address whose operation meet erratum conditions to wait until
cache data be cleaned to PoC. This way of implementation mitigates
performance penalty compared to purely duplicate original CMO.

arm64: Add support for FEAT_{LS64, LS64_V}
Armv8.7 introduces single-copy atomic 64-byte loads and stores
instructions and its variants named under FEAT_{LS64, LS64_V}.
These features are identified by ID_AA64ISAR1_EL1.LS64 and the
use of such instructions in userspace (EL0) can be trapped.
As st64bv (FEAT_LS64_V) and st64bv0 (FEAT_LS64_ACCDATA) can not be tell
apart, FEAT_LS64 and FEAT_LS64_ACCDATA which will be supported in later
patch will be exported to userspace, FEAT_LS64_V will be enabled only
in kernel.
In order to support the use of corresponding instructions in userspace:
- Make ID_AA64ISAR1_EL1.LS64 visbile to userspace
- Add identifying and enabling in the cpufeature list
- Expose these support of these features to userspace through HWCAP3
and cpuinfo
ld64b/st64b (FEAT_LS64) and st64bv (FEAT_LS64_V) is intended for
special memory (device memory) so requires support by the CPU, system
and target memory location (device that support these instructions).
The HWCAP3_LS64, implies the support of CPU and system (since no
identification method from system, so SoC vendors should advertise
support in the CPU if system also support them).
Otherwise for ld64b/st64b the atomicity may not be guaranteed or a
DABT will be generated, so users (probably userspace driver developer)
should make sure the target memory (device) also have the support.
For st64bv 0xffffffffffffffff will be returned as status result for
unsupported memory so user should check it.
Document the restrictions along with HWCAP3_LS64.

KVM: arm64: GICv3: Detect and work around the lack of ICV_DIR_EL1 trapping
A long time ago, an unsuspecting architect forgot to add a trap bit for ICV_DIR_EL1 in ICH_HCR_EL2. Which was unfortunate, but what's a bit of spec between friends? Thankfully, this was fixed in a later revision, and ARM "deprecates" the lack of trapping ability. Unfortuantely, a few (billion) CPUs went out with that defect, anything ARMv8.0 from ARM, give or take. And on these CPUs, you can't trap DIR on its own, full stop. As the next best thing, we can trap everything in the common group, which is a tad expensive, but hey ho, that's what you get. You can otherwise recycle the HW in the neaby bin. Merge tag 'kvmarm-fixes-6.17-1' of https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/kvmarm/kvmarm into HEAD
KVM/arm64 changes for 6.17, take #2
- Correctly handle 'invariant' system registers for protected VMs
- Improved handling of VNCR data aborts, including external aborts
- Fixes for handling of FEAT_RAS for NV guests, providing a sane
fault context during SEA injection and preventing the use of
RASv1p1 fault injection hardware
- Ensure that page table destruction when a VM is destroyed gives an
opportunity to reschedule
- Large fix to KVM's infrastructure for managing guest context loaded
on the CPU, addressing issues where the output of AT emulation
doesn't get reflected to the guest
- Fix AT S12 emulation to actually perform stage-2 translation when
necessary
- Avoid attempting vLPI irqbypass when GICv4 has been explicitly
disabled for a VM
- Minor KVM + selftest fixes

arm64: Add capability denoting FEAT_RASv1p1
Detecting FEAT_RASv1p1 is rather complicated, as there are two ways for the architecture to advertise the same thing (always a delight...). Add a capability that will advertise this in a synthetic way to the rest of the kernel. ARM:
- Host driver for GICv5, the next generation interrupt controller for arm64, including support for interrupt routing, MSIs, interrupt translation and wired interrupts. - Use FEAT_GCIE_LEGACY on GICv5 systems to virtualize GICv3 VMs on GICv5 hardware, leveraging the legacy VGIC interface. - Userspace control of the 'nASSGIcap' GICv3 feature, allowing userspace to disable support for SGIs w/o an active state on hardware that previously advertised it unconditionally. - Map supporting endpoints with cacheable memory attributes on systems with FEAT_S2FWB and DIC where KVM no longer needs to perform cache maintenance on the address range. - Nested support for FEAT_RAS and FEAT_DoubleFault2, allowing the guest hypervisor to inject external aborts into an L2 VM and take traps of masked external aborts to the hypervisor. - Convert more system register sanitization to the config-driven implementation. - Fixes to the visibility of EL2 registers, namely making VGICv3 system registers accessible through the VGIC device instead of the ONE_REG vCPU ioctls. - Various cleanups and minor fixes. LoongArch: - Add stat information for in-kernel irqchip - Add tracepoints for CPUCFG and CSR emulation exits - Enhance in-kernel irqchip emulation - Various cleanups. RISC-V: - Enable ring-based dirty memory tracking - Improve perf kvm stat to report interrupt events - Delegate illegal instruction trap to VS-mode - MMU improvements related to upcoming nested virtualization s390x - Fixes x86: - Add CONFIG_KVM_IOAPIC for x86 to allow disabling support for I/O APIC, PIC, and PIT emulation at compile time. - Share device posted IRQ code between SVM and VMX and harden it against bugs and runtime errors. - Use vcpu_idx, not vcpu_id, for GA log tag/metadata, to make lookups O(1) instead of O(n). - For MMIO stale data mitigation, track whether or not a vCPU has access to (host) MMIO based on whether the page tables have MMIO pfns mapped; using VFIO is prone to false negatives - Rework the MSR interception code so that the SVM and VMX APIs are more or less identical. - Recalculate all MSR intercepts from scratch on MSR filter changes, instead of maintaining shadow bitmaps. - Advertise support for LKGS (Load Kernel GS base), a new instruction that's loosely related to FRED, but is supported and enumerated independently. - Fix a user-triggerable WARN that syzkaller found by setting the vCPU in INIT_RECEIVED state (aka wait-for-SIPI), and then putting the vCPU into VMX Root Mode (post-VMXON). Trying to detect every possible path leading to architecturally forbidden states is hard and even risks breaking userspace (if it goes from valid to valid state but passes through invalid states), so just wait until KVM_RUN to detect that the vCPU state isn't allowed. - Add KVM_X86_DISABLE_EXITS_APERFMPERF to allow disabling interception of APERF/MPERF reads, so that a "properly" configured VM can access APERF/MPERF. This has many caveats (APERF/MPERF cannot be zeroed on vCPU creation or saved/restored on suspend and resume, or preserved over thread migration let alone VM migration) but can be useful whenever you're interested in letting Linux guests see the effective physical CPU frequency in /proc/cpuinfo. - Reject KVM_SET_TSC_KHZ for vm file descriptors if vCPUs have been created, as there's no known use case for changing the default frequency for other VM types and it goes counter to the very reason why the ioctl was added to the vm file descriptor. And also, there would be no way to make it work for confidential VMs with a "secure" TSC, so kill two birds with one stone. - Dynamically allocation the shadow MMU's hashed page list, and defer allocating the hashed list until it's actually needed (the TDP MMU doesn't use the list). - Extract many of KVM's helpers for accessing architectural local APIC state to common x86 so that they can be shared by guest-side code for Secure AVIC. - Various cleanups and fixes. x86 (Intel): - Preserve the host's DEBUGCTL.FREEZE_IN_SMM when running the guest. Failure to honor FREEZE_IN_SMM can leak host state into guests. - Explicitly check vmcs12.GUEST_DEBUGCTL on nested VM-Enter to prevent L1 from running L2 with features that KVM doesn't support, e.g. BTF. x86 (AMD): - WARN and reject loading kvm-amd.ko instead of panicking the kernel if the nested SVM MSRPM offsets tracker can't handle an MSR (which is pretty much a static condition and therefore should never happen, but still). - Fix a variety of flaws and bugs in the AVIC device posted IRQ code. - Inhibit AVIC if a vCPU's ID is too big (relative to what hardware supports) instead of rejecting vCPU creation. - Extend enable_ipiv module param support to SVM, by simply leaving IsRunning clear in the vCPU's physical ID table entry. - Disable IPI virtualization, via enable_ipiv, if the CPU is affected by erratum #1235, to allow (safely) enabling AVIC on such CPUs. - Request GA Log interrupts if and only if the target vCPU is blocking, i.e. only if KVM needs a notification in order to wake the vCPU. - Intercept SPEC_CTRL on AMD if the MSR shouldn't exist according to the vCPU's CPUID model. - Accept any SNP policy that is accepted by the firmware with respect to SMT and single-socket restrictions. An incompatible policy doesn't put the kernel at risk in any way, so there's no reason for KVM to care. - Drop a superfluous WBINVD (on all CPUs!) when destroying a VM and use WBNOINVD instead of WBINVD when possible for SEV cache maintenance. - When reclaiming memory from an SEV guest, only do cache flushes on CPUs that have ever run a vCPU for the guest, i.e. don't flush the caches for CPUs that can't possibly have cache lines with dirty, encrypted data. Generic: - Rework irqbypass to track/match producers and consumers via an xarray instead of a linked list. Using a linked list leads to O(n^2) insertion times, which is hugely problematic for use cases that create large numbers of VMs. Such use cases typically don't actually use irqbypass, but eliminating the pointless registration is a future problem to solve as it likely requires new uAPI. - Track irqbypass's "token" as "struct eventfd_ctx *" instead of a "void *", to avoid making a simple concept unnecessarily difficult to understand. - Decouple device posted IRQs from VFIO device assignment, as binding a VM to a VFIO group is not a requirement for enabling device posted IRQs. - Clean up and document/comment the irqfd assignment code. - Disallow binding multiple irqfds to an eventfd with a priority waiter, i.e. ensure an eventfd is bound to at most one irqfd through the entire host, and add a selftest to verify eventfd:irqfd bindings are globally unique. - Add a tracepoint for KVM_SET_MEMORY_ATTRIBUTES to help debug issues related to private <=> shared memory conversions. - Drop guest_memfd's .getattr() implementation as the VFS layer will call generic_fillattr() if inode_operations.getattr is NULL. - Fix issues with dirty ring harvesting where KVM doesn't bound the processing of entries in any way, which allows userspace to keep KVM in a tight loop indefinitely. - Kill off kvm_arch_{start,end}_assignment() and x86's associated tracking, now that KVM no longer uses assigned_device_count as a heuristic for either irqbypass usage or MDS mitigation. Selftests: - Fix a comment typo. - Verify KVM is loaded when getting any KVM module param so that attempting to run a selftest without kvm.ko loaded results in a SKIP message about KVM not being loaded/enabled (versus some random parameter not existing). - Skip tests that hit EACCES when attempting to access a file, and rpint a "Root required?" help message. In most cases, the test just needs to be run with elevated permissions. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQFIBAABCAAyFiEE8TM4V0tmI4mGbHaCv/vSX3jHroMFAmiKXMgUHHBib256aW5p QHJlZGhhdC5jb20ACgkQv/vSX3jHroMhMQf/QDhC/CP1aGXph2whuyeD2NMqPKiU 9KdnDNST+ftPwjg9QxZ9mTaa8zeVz/wly6XlxD9OQHy+opM1wcys3k0GZAFFEEQm YrThgURdzEZ3nwJZgb+m0t4wjJQtpiFIBwAf7qq6z1VrqQBEmHXJ/8QxGuqO+BNC j5q/X+q6KZwehKI6lgFBrrOKWFaxqhnRAYfW6rGBxRXxzTJuna37fvDpodQnNceN zOiq+avfriUMArTXTqOteJNKU0229HjiPSnjILLnFQ+B3akBlwNG0jk7TMaAKR6q IZWG1EIS9q1BAkGXaw6DE1y6d/YwtXCR5qgAIkiGwaPt5yj9Oj6kRN2Ytw== =j2At -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/virt/kvm/kvm Pull kvm updates from Paolo Bonzini: "ARM: - Host driver for GICv5, the next generation interrupt controller for arm64, including support for interrupt routing, MSIs, interrupt translation and wired interrupts - Use FEAT_GCIE_LEGACY on GICv5 systems to virtualize GICv3 VMs on GICv5 hardware, leveraging the legacy VGIC interface - Userspace control of the 'nASSGIcap' GICv3 feature, allowing userspace to disable support for SGIs w/o an active state on hardware that previously advertised it unconditionally - Map supporting endpoints with cacheable memory attributes on systems with FEAT_S2FWB and DIC where KVM no longer needs to perform cache maintenance on the address range - Nested support for FEAT_RAS and FEAT_DoubleFault2, allowing the guest hypervisor to inject external aborts into an L2 VM and take traps of masked external aborts to the hypervisor - Convert more system register sanitization to the config-driven implementation - Fixes to the visibility of EL2 registers, namely making VGICv3 system registers accessible through the VGIC device instead of the ONE_REG vCPU ioctls - Various cleanups and minor fixes LoongArch: - Add stat information for in-kernel irqchip - Add tracepoints for CPUCFG and CSR emulation exits - Enhance in-kernel irqchip emulation - Various cleanups RISC-V: - Enable ring-based dirty memory tracking - Improve perf kvm stat to report interrupt events - Delegate illegal instruction trap to VS-mode - MMU improvements related to upcoming nested virtualization s390x - Fixes x86: - Add CONFIG_KVM_IOAPIC for x86 to allow disabling support for I/O APIC, PIC, and PIT emulation at compile time - Share device posted IRQ code between SVM and VMX and harden it against bugs and runtime errors - Use vcpu_idx, not vcpu_id, for GA log tag/metadata, to make lookups O(1) instead of O(n) - For MMIO stale data mitigation, track whether or not a vCPU has access to (host) MMIO based on whether the page tables have MMIO pfns mapped; using VFIO is prone to false negatives - Rework the MSR interception code so that the SVM and VMX APIs are more or less identical - Recalculate all MSR intercepts from scratch on MSR filter changes, instead of maintaining shadow bitmaps - Advertise support for LKGS (Load Kernel GS base), a new instruction that's loosely related to FRED, but is supported and enumerated independently - Fix a user-triggerable WARN that syzkaller found by setting the vCPU in INIT_RECEIVED state (aka wait-for-SIPI), and then putting the vCPU into VMX Root Mode (post-VMXON). arm64: Add BBM Level 2 cpu feature
The Break-Before-Make cpu feature supports multiple levels (levels 0-2), and this commit adds a dedicated BBML2 cpufeature to test against support for. To support BBML2 in as wide a range of contexts as we can, we want not only the architectural guarantees that BBML2 makes, but additionally want BBML2 to not create TLB conflict aborts. Not causing aborts avoids us having to prove that no recursive faults can be induced in any path that uses BBML2, allowing its use for arbitrary kernel mappings. This feature builds on the previous ARM64_CPUCAP_EARLY_LOCAL_CPU_FEATURE, as all early cpus must support BBML2 for us to enable it (and any later cpus must also support it to be onlined). Not onlining late cpus that do not support BBML2 is unavoidable, as we might currently be using BBML2 semantics for kernel memory regions. This could cause faults in the late cpus, and would be difficult to unwind, so let us avoid the case altogether. arm64: errata: Work around AmpereOne's erratum AC04_CPU_23
On AmpereOne AC04, updates to HCR_EL2 can rarely corrupt simultaneous translations for data addresses initiated by load/store instructions. KVM: arm64: Work around x1e's CNTVOFF_EL2 bogosity
It appears that on Qualcomm's x1e CPU, CNTVOFF_EL2 doesn't really work, specially with HCR_EL2.E2H=1. A non-zero offset results in a screaming virtual timer interrupt, to the tune of a few 100k interrupts per second on a 4 vcpu VM. This is also evidenced by this CPU's inability to correctly run any of the timer selftests. The only case this doesn't break is when this register is set to 0, which breaks VM migration. When HCR_EL2.E2H=0, the timer seems to behave normally, and does not result in an interrupt storm. As a workaround, use the fact that this CPU implements FEAT_ECV, and trap all accesses to the virtual timer and counter, keeping CNTVOFF_EL2 set to zero, and emulate accesses to CVAL/TVAL/CTL and the counter itself, fixing up the timer to account for the missing offset. And if you think this is disgusting, you'd probably be right. The biggest change here is eliminating the awful idea that KVM had, of
essentially guessing which pfns are refcounted pages. The reason to
do so was that KVM needs to map both non-refcounted pages (for example
BARs of VFIO devices) and VM_PFNMAP/VM_MIXMEDMAP VMAs that contain
refcounted pages. However, the result was security issues in the past,
and more recently the inability to map VM_IO and VM_PFNMAP memory
that _is_ backed by struct page but is not refcounted. In particular
this broke virtio-gpu blob resources (which directly map host graphics
buffers into the guest as "vram" for the virtio-gpu device) with the
amdgpu driver, because amdgpu allocates non-compound higher order pages
and the tail pages could not be mapped into KVM.
This requires adjusting all uses of struct page in the per-architecture
code, to always work on the pfn whenever possible. The large series that
did this, from David Stevens and Sean Christopherson, also cleaned up
substantially the set of functions that provided arch code with the
pfn for a host virtual addresses. The previous maze of twisty little
passages, all different, is replaced by five functions (__gfn_to_page,
__kvm_faultin_pfn, the non-__ versions of these two, and kvm_prefetch_pages)
saving almost 200 lines of code.
ARM:
* Support for stage-1 permission indirection (FEAT_S1PIE) and
permission overlays (FEAT_S1POE), including nested virt + the
emulated page table walker
* Introduce PSCI SYSTEM_OFF2 support to KVM + client driver. This call
was introduced in PSCIv1.3 as a mechanism to request hibernation,
similar to the S4 state in ACPI
* Explicitly trap + hide FEAT_MPAM (QoS controls) from KVM guests. As
part of it, introduce trivial initialization of the host's MPAM
context so KVM can use the corresponding traps
* PMU support under nested virtualization, honoring the guest
hypervisor's trap configuration and event filtering when running a
nested guest
* Fixes to vgic ITS serialization where stale device/interrupt table
entries are not zeroed when the mapping is invalidated by the VM
* Avoid emulated MMIO completion if userspace has requested synchronous
external abort injection
* Various fixes and cleanups affecting pKVM, vCPU initialization, and
selftests
LoongArch:
* Add iocsr and mmio bus simulation in kernel.
* Add in-kernel interrupt controller emulation.
* Add support for virtualization extensions to the eiointc irqchip.
PPC:
* Drop lingering and utterly obsolete references to PPC970 KVM, which was
removed 10 years ago.
* Fix incorrect documentation references to non-existing ioctls
RISC-V:
* Accelerate KVM RISC-V when running as a guest
* Perf support to collect KVM guest statistics from host side
s390:
* New selftests: more ucontrol selftests and CPU model sanity checks
* Support for the gen17 CPU model
* List registers supported by KVM_GET/SET_ONE_REG in the documentation
x86:
* Cleanup KVM's handling of Accessed and Dirty bits to dedup code, improve
documentation, harden against unexpected changes. Even if the hardware
A/D tracking is disabled, it is possible to use the hardware-defined A/D
bits to track if a PFN is Accessed and/or Dirty, and that removes a lot
of special cases.
* Elide TLB flushes when aging secondary PTEs, as has been done in x86's
primary MMU for over 10 years.
* Recover huge pages in-place in the TDP MMU when dirty page logging is
toggled off, instead of zapping them and waiting until the page is
re-accessed to create a huge mapping. This reduces vCPU jitter.
* Batch TLB flushes when dirty page logging is toggled off. This reduces
the time it takes to disable dirty logging by ~3x.
* Remove the shrinker that was (poorly) attempting to reclaim shadow page
tables in low-memory situations.
* Clean up and optimize KVM's handling of writes to MSR_IA32_APICBASE.
* Advertise CPUIDs for new instructions in Clearwater Forest
* Quirk KVM's misguided behavior of initialized certain feature MSRs to
their maximum supported feature set, which can result in KVM creating
invalid vCPU state. E.g. initializing PERF_CAPABILITIES to a non-zero
value results in the vCPU having invalid state if userspace hides PDCM
from the guest, which in turn can lead to save/restore failures.
* Fix KVM's handling of non-canonical checks for vCPUs that support LA57
to better follow the "architecture", in quotes because the actual
behavior is poorly documented. E.g. most MSR writes and descriptor
table loads ignore CR4.LA57 and operate purely on whether the CPU
supports LA57.
* Bypass the register cache when querying CPL from kvm_sched_out(), as
filling the cache from IRQ context is generally unsafe; harden the
cache accessors to try to prevent similar issues from occuring in the
future. The issue that triggered this change was already fixed in 6.12,
but was still kinda latent.
* Advertise AMD_IBPB_RET to userspace, and fix a related bug where KVM
over-advertises SPEC_CTRL when trying to support cross-vendor VMs.
* Minor cleanups
* Switch hugepage recovery thread to use vhost_task. These kthreads can
consume significant amounts of CPU time on behalf of a VM or in response
to how the VM behaves (for example how it accesses its memory); therefore
KVM tried to place the thread in the VM's cgroups and charge the CPU
time consumed by that work to the VM's container. However the kthreads
did not process SIGSTOP/SIGCONT, and therefore cgroups which had KVM
instances inside could not complete freezing. Fix this by replacing the
kthread with a PF_USER_WORKER thread, via the vhost_task abstraction.
Another 100+ lines removed, with generally better behavior too like
having these threads properly parented in the process tree.
* Revert a workaround for an old CPU erratum (Nehalem/Westmere) that didn't
really work; there was really nothing to work around anyway: the broken
patch was meant to fix nested virtualization, but the PERF_GLOBAL_CTRL
MSR is virtualized and therefore unaffected by the erratum.
* Fix 6.12 regression where CONFIG_KVM will be built as a module even
if asked to be builtin, as long as neither KVM_INTEL nor KVM_AMD is 'y'.
x86 selftests:
* x86 selftests can now use AVX.
Documentation:
* Use rST internal links
* Reorganize the introduction to the API document
Generic:
* Protect vcpu->pid accesses outside of vcpu->mutex with a rwlock instead
of RCU, so that running a vCPU on a different task doesn't encounter long
due to having to wait for all CPUs become quiescent. In general both reads
and writes are rare, but userspace that supports confidential computing is
introducing the use of "helper" vCPUs that may jump from one host processor
to another. Those will be very happy to trigger a synchronize_rcu(), and
the effect on performance is quite the disaster.

arm64: Add support for FEAT_HAFT
Armv8.9/v9.4 introduces the feature Hardware managed Access Flag
for Table descriptors (FEAT_HAFT). The feature is indicated by
ID_AA64MMFR1_EL1.HAFDBS == 0b0011 and can be enabled by
TCR2_EL1.HAFT so it has a dependency on FEAT_TCR2.
Adds the Kconfig for FEAT_HAFT and support detecting and enabling
the feature. The feature is enabled in __cpu_setup() before MMU on
just like HA. A CPU capability is added to notify the user of the
feature.
Add definition of P{G,4,U,M}D_TABLE_AF bit and set the AF bit
when creating the page table, which will save the hardware
from having to update them at runtime. This will be ignored if
FEAT_HAFT is not enabled.
The AF bit of table descriptors cannot be managed by the software
per spec, unlike the HA. So this should be used only if it's supported
system wide by system_supports_haft().

arm64: cpufeature: discover CPU support for MPAM
ARMv8.4 adds support for 'Memory Partitioning And Monitoring' (MPAM) which describes an interface to cache and bandwidth controls wherever they appear in the system. Add support to detect MPAM. Like SVE, MPAM has an extra id register that describes some more properties, including the virtualisation support, which is optional. Detect this separately so we can detect mismatched/insane systems, but still use MPAM on the host even if the virtualisation support is missing. MPAM needs enabling at the highest implemented exception level, otherwise the register accesses trap. The 'enabled' flag is accessible to lower exception levels, but its in a register that traps when MPAM isn't enabled. The cpufeature 'matches' hook is extended to test this on one of the CPUs, so that firmware can emulate MPAM as disabled if it is reserved for use by secure world. Secondary CPUs that appear late could trip cpufeature's 'lower safe' behaviour after the MPAM properties have been advertised to user-space. Add a verify call to ensure late secondaries match the existing CPUs. (If you have a boot failure that bisects here its likely your CPUs advertise MPAM in the id registers, but firmware failed to either enable or MPAM, or emulate the trap as if it were disabled) Signed-off-by: James Morse <james.morse@arm.com> Signed-off-by: Joey Gouly <joey.gouly@arm.com> Reviewed-by: Gavin Shan <gshan@redhat.com> Tested-by: Shameer Kolothum <shameerali.kolothum.thodi@huawei.com> Acked-by: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com> Reviewed-by: Marc Zyngier <maz@kernel.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20241030160317.2528209-4-joey.gouly@arm.com Signed-off-by: Oliver Upton <oliver.upton@linux.dev> |

arm64: errata: Add workaround for Arm errata 3194386 and 3312417
Cortex-X4 and Neoverse-V3 suffer from errata whereby an MSR to the SSBS special-purpose register does not affect subsequent speculative instructions, permitting speculative store bypassing for a window of time. This is described in their Software Developer Errata Notice (SDEN) documents: * Cortex-X4 SDEN v8.0, erratum 3194386: https://developer.arm.com/documentation/SDEN-2432808/0800/ * Neoverse-V3 SDEN v6.0, erratum 3312417: https://developer.arm.com/documentation/SDEN-2891958/0600/ To workaround these errata, it is necessary to place a speculation barrier (SB) after MSR to the SSBS special-purpose register. This patch adds the requisite SB after writes to SSBS within the kernel, and hides the presence of SSBS from EL0 such that userspace software which cares about SSBS will manipulate this via prctl(PR_GET_SPECULATION_CTRL, ...). S390:
* Changes to FPU handling came in via the main s390 pull request
* Only deliver to the guest the SCLP events that userspace has
requested.
* More virtual vs physical address fixes (only a cleanup since
virtual and physical address spaces are currently the same).
* Fix selftests undefined behavior.
x86:
* Fix a restriction that the guest can't program a PMU event whose
encoding matches an architectural event that isn't included in the
guest CPUID. The enumeration of an architectural event only says
that if a CPU supports an architectural event, then the event can be
programmed *using the architectural encoding*. The enumeration does
NOT say anything about the encoding when the CPU doesn't report support
the event *in general*. It might support it, and it might support it
using the same encoding that made it into the architectural PMU spec.
* Fix a variety of bugs in KVM's emulation of RDPMC (more details on
individual commits) and add a selftest to verify KVM correctly emulates
RDMPC, counter availability, and a variety of other PMC-related
behaviors that depend on guest CPUID and therefore are easier to
validate with selftests than with custom guests (aka kvm-unit-tests).
* Zero out PMU state on AMD if the virtual PMU is disabled, it does not
cause any bug but it wastes time in various cases where KVM would check
if a PMC event needs to be synthesized.
* Optimize triggering of emulated events, with a nice ~10% performance
improvement in VM-Exit microbenchmarks when a vPMU is exposed to the
guest.
* Tighten the check for "PMI in guest" to reduce false positives if an NMI
arrives in the host while KVM is handling an IRQ VM-Exit.
* Fix a bug where KVM would report stale/bogus exit qualification information
when exiting to userspace with an internal error exit code.
* Add a VMX flag in /proc/cpuinfo to report 5-level EPT support.
* Rework TDP MMU root unload, free, and alloc to run with mmu_lock held for
read, e.g. to avoid serializing vCPUs when userspace deletes a memslot.
* Tear down TDP MMU page tables at 4KiB granularity (used to be 1GiB). KVM
doesn't support yielding in the middle of processing a zap, and 1GiB
granularity resulted in multi-millisecond lags that are quite impolite
for CONFIG_PREEMPT kernels.
* Allocate write-tracking metadata on-demand to avoid the memory overhead when
a kernel is built with i915 virtualization support but the workloads use
neither shadow paging nor i915 virtualization.
* Explicitly initialize a variety of on-stack variables in the emulator that
triggered KMSAN false positives.
* Fix the debugregs ABI for 32-bit KVM.
* Rework the "force immediate exit" code so that vendor code ultimately decides
how and when to force the exit, which allowed some optimization for both
Intel and AMD.
* Fix a long-standing bug where kvm_has_noapic_vcpu could be left elevated if
vCPU creation ultimately failed, causing extra unnecessary work.
* Cleanup the logic for checking if the currently loaded vCPU is in-kernel.
* Harden against underflowing the active mmu_notifier invalidation
count, so that "bad" invalidations (usually due to bugs elsehwere in the
kernel) are detected earlier and are less likely to hang the kernel.
x86 Xen emulation:
* Overlay pages can now be cached based on host virtual address,
instead of guest physical addresses. This removes the need to
reconfigure and invalidate the cache if the guest changes the
gpa but the underlying host virtual address remains the same.
* When possible, use a single host TSC value when computing the deadline for
Xen timers in order to improve the accuracy of the timer emulation.
* Inject pending upcall events when the vCPU software-enables its APIC to fix
a bug where an upcall can be lost (and to follow Xen's behavior).
* Fall back to the slow path instead of warning if "fast" IRQ delivery of Xen
events fails, e.g. if the guest has aliased xAPIC IDs.
RISC-V:
* Support exception and interrupt handling in selftests
* New self test for RISC-V architectural timer (Sstc extension)
* New extension support (Ztso, Zacas)
* Support userspace emulation of random number seed CSRs.
ARM:
* Infrastructure for building KVM's trap configuration based on the
architectural features (or lack thereof) advertised in the VM's ID
registers
* Support for mapping vfio-pci BARs as Normal-NC (vaguely similar to
x86's WC) at stage-2, improving the performance of interacting with
assigned devices that can tolerate it
* Conversion of KVM's representation of LPIs to an xarray, utilized to
address serialization some of the serialization on the LPI injection
path
* Support for _architectural_ VHE-only systems, advertised through the
absence of FEAT_E2H0 in the CPU's ID register
* Miscellaneous cleanups, fixes, and spelling corrections to KVM and
selftests
LoongArch:
* Set reserved bits as zero in CPUCFG.
* Start SW timer only when vcpu is blocking.
* Do not restart SW timer when it is expired.
* Remove unnecessary CSR register saving during enter guest.
* Misc cleanups and fixes as usual.
Generic:
* cleanup Kconfig by removing CONFIG_HAVE_KVM, which was basically always
true on all architectures except MIPS (where Kconfig determines the
available depending on CPU capabilities). It is replaced either by
an architecture-dependent symbol for MIPS, and IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_KVM)
everywhere else.
* Factor common "select" statements in common code instead of requiring
each architecture to specify it
* Remove thoroughly obsolete APIs from the uapi headers.
* Move architecture-dependent stuff to uapi/asm/kvm.h
* Always flush the async page fault workqueue when a work item is being
removed, especially during vCPU destruction, to ensure that there are no
workers running in KVM code when all references to KVM-the-module are gone,
i.e. to prevent a very unlikely use-after-free if kvm.ko is unloaded.
* Grab a reference to the VM's mm_struct in the async #PF worker itself instead
of gifting the worker a reference, so that there's no need to remember
to *conditionally* clean up after the worker.
Selftests:
* Reduce boilerplate especially when utilize selftest TAP infrastructure.
* Add basic smoke tests for SEV and SEV-ES, along with a pile of library
support for handling private/encrypted/protected memory.
* Fix benign bugs where tests neglect to close() guest_memfd files.

arm64/fpsimd: Support FEAT_FPMR
FEAT_FPMR defines a new EL0 accessible register FPMR use to configure the FP8 related features added to the architecture at the same time. Detect support for this register and context switch it for EL0 when present. Due to the sharing of responsibility for saving floating point state between the host kernel and KVM FP8 support is not yet implemented in KVM and a stub similar to that used for SVCR is provided for FPMR in order to avoid bisection issues. To make it easier to share host state with the hypervisor we store FPMR as a hardened usercopy field in uw (along with some padding).
