0000d9ccbc Char/Misc/IIO/FPGA/GPIB/etc driver updates for 7.2-rc1
Here is the big set of char, misc, iio, fpga, and other small driver
 subsystems changes for 7.2-rc1.
 
 Lots of little stuff in here, the majority being of course the IIO
 driver updates, as a list they are:
   - IIO driver updates and additions
   - GPIB driver bugfixes and cleanups
   - Android binder driver updates (rust and C version)
   - counter driver updates
   - MHI driver updates
   - mei driver updates
   - w1 driver updates
   - interconnect driver updates
   - Comedi driver fixes and updates
   - some obsolete char drivers removed (applicom and dtlk)
   - hwtracing driver updates
   - other tiny driver updates
 
 All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
 issues.

8a500fd093 TTY / Serial driver update for 7.2-rc1
Here is the big set of TTY and Serial driver updates for 7.2-rc1.
 Overall we end up removing more code than added, due to an obsolete
 synclink_gt driver being removed from the tree, always a nice thing to
 see happen.
 
 Other than that driver removal, major things included in here are:
   - max310x serial driver updates and fixes
   - 8250 driver updates and rework in places to make it more "modern"
   - dts file updates
   - serial driver core tweaks and updates
   - vt code cleanups
   - vc_screen crash fixes
   - other minor driver updates and cleanups
 
 All of these have been in linux-next for well over a week with no
 reported issues.

Core & protocols
 ----------------
 
  - Work on removing rtnl_lock protection throughout the stack continues.
    In this chapter:
     - don't use rtnl_lock for IPv6 multicast routing configuration
     - don't take rtnl_lock in ethtool for modern drivers
     - prepare Qdisc dump callbacks for rtnl_lock removal
 
  - Support dumping just ifindex + name of all interfaces, under RCU.
    It's a common operation for Netlink CLI tools (when translating
    names to ifindexes) and previously required full rtnl_lock.
 
  - Support dumping qdiscs and page pools for a specific netdev. Even tho
    user space wants a dump of all netdevs, most of the time, the OOO
    programming model results in repeating the dump for each netdev.
    Which, in absence of a cache, leads to a O(n^2) behavior.
 
  - Flush nexthops once on multi-nexthop removal (e.g. when device goes
    down), another O(n^2) -> O(n) improvement.
 
  - Rehash locally generated traffic to a different nexthop on retransmit
    timeout.
 
  - Honor oif when choosing nexthop for locally generated IPv6 traffic.
 
  - Convert TCP Auth Option to crypto library, and drop non-RFC algos.
 
  - Increase subflow limits in MPTCP to 64 and endpoint limit to 256.
 
  - Support MPTCP signaling of IPv6 address + port (ADD_ADDR). We need
    to selectively skip reporting of the standard TCP Timestamp option,
    because they won't fit into the header space together (12 + 30 > 40).
 
  - Support using bridge neighbor suppression, Duplicate Address
    Detection, Gratuitous ARP and unsolicited NA forwarding - in EVPN
    deployments, e.g. VXLAN fabrics (IPv4 and IPv6).

    tunnel devices (again, mostly for EVPN deployments).
 
  - Support binding GENEVE tunnels to a local address.

  - Support attaching PSP crypto offload to containers (veth, netkit).
 
  - Add a new IPSec Netlink message XFRM_MSG_MIGRATE_STATE that allows
    migrating individual IPsec SAs independently of their policies.
    The existing XFRM_MSG_MIGRATE is tightly coupled to policy+SA
    migration, lacks SPI for unique SA identification, and cannot express
    reqid changes or migrate Transport mode selectors. The new interface
    identifies the SA via SPI and mark, supports reqid changes, address
    family changes, encap removal, and uses an atomic create+install
    flow under x->lock to prevent SN/IV reuse during AEAD SA migration.
 
  - Implement GRO/GSO support for PPPoE.
 
  - Convert sockopt callbacks in a number of protocols to iov_iter.
 
 Cross-tree stuff
 ----------------
 
  - Remove support for Crypto TFM cloning (unblocked after the TCP Auth
    Option rework). This feature regressed performance for all crypto API
    users, since it changed crypto transformation objects into reference-
    -counted objects.
 
  - Add FCrypt-PCBC implementation to rxrpc and remove it from the global
    crypto API as obsolete and insecure.
 
 Wireless
 --------
 
  - Major rework of station bandwidth handling, fixing issues with lower
    capability than AP.
 
  - Cleanups for EMLSR spec issues (drafts differed).
 
  - More Neighbor Awareness Networking (Wi-Fi Aware) work (multicast,
    schedule improvements, multi-station etc.)

 Netfilter
 ---------
 
  - Use per-rule hash initval in nf_conncount. This avoids unnecessary
    lock contention with short keys (e.g. conntrack zones) in different
    namespaces.
 
  - Various safety improvements, both in packet parsing and object
    lifetimes. Notably add refcounts to conntrack timeout policy.
 
 Deletions
 ---------
 
  - Remove TLS + sockmap integration. TLS wants to pin user pages
    to avoid a copy, and sockmap wants to write to the input stream.
    More work on this integration is clearly needed, and we can't find
    any users (original author admitted that they never deployed it).
 
  - Remove support for TLS offload with TCP Offload Engine (the far
    more common opportunistic offload is retained). The locking looks
    unfixable (driver sleeps under TCP spin locks) and people from
    the vendor that added this are AWOL.
 
  - Remove more ATM code, trying to leave behind only what PPPoATM needs,
    AAL5 and br2684 with permanent circuits.
 
  - Remove AppleTalk. Let it join hamradio in our out of tree protocol
    graveyard, I mean, repository.
 
  - Disable 32-bit x_tables compatibility (32bit binaries on 64bit kernel)
    interface in user namespaces. To be deleted completely, soon.
 
  - Remove 5/10 MHz support from cfg80211/mac80211.

    - Support DEVMEM/DMABUF Tx over NETMEM_TX_NO_DMA devices (netkit).

landlock: Add API support and docs for the quiet flags
Adds the UAPI for the quiet flags feature (but not the implementation
yet).

Even though currently LANDLOCK_ADD_RULE_QUIET only affects audit
logging, in the future this can also be used as part of a supervisor
mechanism, where it will also suppress denial notifications on a
per-object basis.  Thus the name is deliberately generic, as opposed to
e.g. LANDLOCK_ADD_RULE_LOG_QUIET.

According to pahole, even after adding the struct access_masks
quiet_masks in struct landlock_hierarchy, the u32 log_* bitfield still
only has a size of 2 bytes, so there's minimal wasted space.

Slightly change the example used in code blocks: build a ruleset for a
DNS client, so that it uses both TCP and UDP.

Test coverage for security/landlock is 91.3% of 2245 lines according to

landlock: Demonstrate best-effort allowed_access filtering
Landlock provides best-effort sandboxing across ABI versions:
applications request the rights they need, and on older kernels the
unsupported rights are silently dropped from handled_access_* by the
documented compatibility switch.  The recommended pattern for
landlock_add_rule(2) calls is to mirror this filtering at the rule
level, which wasn't explicitly described in the exemple.

Show the pattern explicitly in the filesystem and network rule examples
by masking each rule's allowed_access against the ruleset's
handled_access_* and adding the rule only when at least one bit remains
set.  This makes the recommended best-effort pattern self-documenting.

160625174a char: dtlk: remove driver for ISA speech synthesizer card
The dtlk driver supports the RC Systems DoubleTalk PC ISA speech
synthesizer card. It has severe coding style issues and has only
received tree-wide fixes and drive-by cleanups in the entire Git
history (since Linux 2.6.12-rc2). The same hardware is supported by
drivers/accessibility/speakup for screen reader use, but that
implementation does not share any code with this driver. Given all of
these factors, it is likely the driver is entirely unused. Remove it to
reduce future maintenance workload.

Note: The removed maintainer is already listed in CREDITS.

d237230728 crypto: qat - remove unused character device and IOCTLs
The QAT driver exposes a character device (qat_adf_ctl) with IOCTLs
for device configuration, start, stop, status query and enumeration.
These IOCTLs are not part of any public uAPI header and have no known
in-tree or out-of-tree users. Device lifecycle is already managed via
sysfs.

The ioctl interface also increases the attack surface and is the
subject of a number of bug reports.

Remove the character device, the IOCTL definitions, and the related
data structures (adf_dev_status_info, adf_user_cfg_key_val,
adf_user_cfg_section, adf_user_cfg_ctl_data). Drop the now-unused
adf_cfg_user.h header and strip adf_ctl_drv.c down to the minimal
module_init/module_exit hooks for workqueue, AER, and crypto/compression
algorithm registration.

Clean up leftover dead code that was only reachable from the removed
IOCTL paths: adf_cfg_del_all(), adf_devmgr_verify_id(),
adf_devmgr_get_num_dev(), adf_devmgr_get_dev_by_id(),
adf_get_vf_real_id() and the unused ADF_CFG macros.

Additionally, drop the entry associated to QAT IOCTLs in
ioctl-number.rst.

61848e9799 tty: synclink_gt: remove broken driver
The synclink_gt driver was marked as broken in commit 426263d5fb
("tty: synclink_gt: mark as BROKEN") in July 2023 because it had severe
structural problems and there had been no evidence of users since 2016.
Since then, no meaningful improvements have been made to the driver,
and it is unlikely that will ever happen due to the lack of interest.
Drop the driver and references to it in comments and documentation.
include/uapi/linux/synclink.h is also removed. The only use of this
header I have found is the linux-raw-sys Rust crate. It generates
bindings for all UAPI headers, but has a hardcoded list of headers and
ioctls, including this one, so that does not indicate that anyone is
using it. I have sent a pull request to remove the include and ioctl
definitions for this header (see the link below).

99428157dc rseq: Reenable performance optimizations conditionally
Due to the incompatibility with TCMalloc the RSEQ optimizations and
extended features (time slice extensions) have been disabled and made
run-time conditional.

The original RSEQ implementation, which TCMalloc depends on, registers a 32
byte region (ORIG_RSEG_SIZE). This region has a 32 byte alignment
requirement.

The extension safe newer variant exposes the kernel RSEQ feature size via
getauxval(AT_RSEQ_FEATURE_SIZE) and the alignment requirement via
getauxval(AT_RSEQ_ALIGN). The alignment requirement is that the registered
RSEQ region is aligned to the next power of two of the feature size. The
kernel currently has a feature size of 33 bytes, which means the alignment
requirement is 64 bytes.

The TCMalloc RSEQ region is embedded into a cache line aligned data
structure starting at offset 32 bytes so that bytes 28-31 and the
cpu_id_start field at bytes 32-35 form a 64-bit little endian pointer with
the top-most bit (63 set) to check whether the kernel has overwritten
cpu_id_start with an actual CPU id value, which is guaranteed to not have
the top most bit set.

As this is part of their performance tuned magic, it's a pretty safe
assumption, that TCMalloc won't use a larger RSEQ size.

This allows the kernel to declare that registrations with a size greater
than the original size of 32 bytes, which is the cases since time slice
extensions got introduced, as RSEQ ABI v2 with the following differences to
the original behaviour:

  1) Unconditional updates of the user read only fields (CPU, node, MMCID)
     are removed. Those fields are only updated on registration, task
     migration and MMCID changes.

  2) Unconditional evaluation of the criticial section pointer is
     removed. It's only evaluated when user space was interrupted and was
     scheduled out or before delivering a signal in the interrupted
     context.

  3) The read/only requirement of the ID fields is enforced. When the
     kernel detects that userspace manipulated the fields, the process is
     terminated. This ensures that multiple entities (libraries) can
     utilize RSEQ without interfering.

  4) Todays extended RSEQ feature (time slice extensions) and future
     extensions are only enabled in the v2 enabled mode.

Registrations with the original size of 32 bytes operate in backwards
compatible legacy mode without performance improvements and extended
features.

Unfortunately that also affects users of older GLIBC versions which
register the original size of 32 bytes and do not evaluate the kernel
required size in the auxiliary vector AT_RSEQ_FEATURE_SIZE.

That's the result of the lack of enforcement in the original implementation
and the unwillingness of a single entity to cooperate with the larger
ecosystem for many years.

Implement the required registration changes by restructuring the spaghetti
code and adding the size/version check. Also add documentation about the
differences of legacy and optimized RSEQ V2 mode.

Reinforce the already stated policy that LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_TRUNCATE should
always go hand in hand with LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_WRITE_FILE, as their
meanings and enforcement overlap in counterintuitive ways.

On many common file systems, fallocate(2) offers a way to shorten files as
long as the file is opened for writing, side-stepping the
LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_TRUNCATE right.

landlock: Expand restrict flags example for ABI version 8
Add LANDLOCK_RESTRICT_SELF_TSYNC to the backwards compatibility example
for restrict flags. This introduces completeness, similar to that of
the ruleset attributes example. However, as the new example can impact
enforcement in certain cases, an appropriate warning is also included.

Additionally, I modified the two comments of the example to make them
more consistent with the ruleset attributes example's.

7b0288bc05 media: uapi: Clarify MBUS color component order for serial buses
The subdev format documentation has a subsection describing how to use
the media bus pixel codes for serial buses. While it describes the
sampling part well, it doesn't really describe the current convention
used for the components order.

landlock: Add errata documentation section
Add errata section with code examples for querying errata and a warning
that most applications should not check errata. Use kernel-doc directives
to include errata descriptions from the header files instead of manual
links.

Also enhance existing DOC sections in security/landlock/errata/abi-*.h
files with Impact sections, and update the code comment in syscalls.c
to remind developers to update errata documentation when applicable.

This addresses the gap where the kernel implements errata tracking
but provides no user-facing documentation on how to use it, while
improving the existing technical documentation in-place rather than
duplicating it.

landlock: Add backwards compatibility for restrict flags
Add backwards compatibility handling for the restrict flags introduced
in ABI version 7. This is shown as a separate code block (similar to
the ruleset_attr handling in the switch statement) because restrict flags
are passed to landlock_restrict_self() rather than being part of the
ruleset attributes.

Also fix misleading description of the /usr rule which incorrectly
stated it "only allow[s] reading" when the code actually allows both
reading and executing (LANDLOCK_ACCESS_FS_EXECUTE is included in
allowed_access).

Address Space IDs allows the VDUSE framework to support devices able to
expose different virtqueues to different part of the drivers.  For
example, to let QEMU handle the net device control virtqueue, so QEMU
always knows the state of the device like mac address or number of
queues enabled, while leaving the dataplane passthrough to the guest
intact.  This enables live migration.

Expands the VDUSE documentation to explain how to use the new ioctls or
the new struct members of old ioctls.

a592a36e49 Documentation: use a source-read extension for the index link boilerplate
The root document usually has a special :ref:`genindex` link to the
generated index. This is also the case for Documentation/index.rst. The
other index.rst files deeper in the directory hierarchy usually don't.

For SPHINXDIRS builds, the root document isn't Documentation/index.rst,
but some other index.rst in the hierarchy. Currently they have a
".. only::" block to add the index link when doing SPHINXDIRS html
builds.

This is obviously very tedious and repetitive. The link is also added to
all index.rst files in the hierarchy for SPHINXDIRS builds, not just the
root document.

Put the boilerplate in a sphinx-includes/subproject-index.rst file, and
include it at the end of the root document for subproject builds in an
ad-hoc source-read extension defined in conf.py.

For now, keep having the boilerplate in translations, because this
approach currently doesn't cover translated index link headers.
