retransmit timer is not stopped from inet_csk_clear_xmit_timer() because we do not define INET_CSK_CLEAR_TIMERS. This is a conscious choice : for active TCP flows, it is better to only call mod_timer(), because there is more chances of keeping the timer unchanged. Also inet_csk_clear_xmit_timer() is often called from another cpu, and calling del_timer() would cause false sharing and lock contention. This means that very often, tcp_write_timer() is called at the timer expiration, while there is nothing to retransmit. This can be detected very early, avoiding the socket spinlock. Linux kernel
============
There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the reStructuredText markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
