Just a single update introducing the support for the optional SOC_ID name string from the Arm SMCCC v1.6 specification. If the SOC_ID name string is implemented, the machine field of the SoC Device Attributes will reflect it. The original intent of SOC_ID was to provide a JEP-106 code for the SiP and the SoC revision to uniquely identify the SoC. However, there has been a request to add this optional name so that SoC firmware can directly provide the SoC name to the OS. There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the reStructuredText markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
