core is SSC spread spectrum support (SSC) in the clk provider API. The idea is
that DT authors will configure SSC for certain clks and they'll be configured
at clk provider registration time or when a consumer device is probed, similar
to how we handle assigned clk rates or parents.

On the clk driver side we have Qualcomm adding almost half the diff because
they add support for 4 different SoCs and then a long tail of other SoCs like
Mediatek, Renesas, Rockchip, SpaceMiT, etc. add more SoC support this time
around. Luckily it's mostly clk data for these new SoCs because the actual
clk_ops are already there. Beyond the new drivers we get all the little fixups
for more compilation coverage or usage of more modern APIs. That all looks
 normal.

Finally, I kinda buried the lead, I'm bringing on Brian and Jerome to help out
with maintaining the clk subsystem. The current working model is already
semi-distributed in that silicon vendors typically take care of their drivers
and send me pull requests but I'm becoming a bottleneck for new drivers and
core framework review because this has become a 100% volunteer effort on my
part. Mike is stepping down after all these years (thanks Mike!) and that jump
started the conversation around finding co-maintainers. Brian and Jerome have
graciously offered to help me with the work load, meaning in the future they'll
be sending pull requests and committing directly to the clk.git tree. They've
both been around on the list for a while, I've met them both in person, and
they've been making changes to the core clk framework along with helping review
patches so I'm pretty confident this will work well.

59e6295fac Driver core changes for 7.3-rc1
- container_of:

   - Apply typeof_member(), remove the local __mptr variable to eliminate
variable shadowing warnings on nested container_of() calls, and remove
     unnecessary parentheses.

 - core:

   - Add driver name to probe debug print for initcall_debug.

   - Avoid repeatedly printing the same 'Fixed dependency cycle' log.

   - Unwind device_add() on attribute creation failure in
     attribute_container_add_class_device().

   - Remove statistics group if encryption group creation fails in
     transport_add_class_device().

 - debugfs:

   - Fix lockdown check for mmap_prepare().

   - Warn if file creation failed due to uninitialized debugfs.

 - device property:

   - Implement fw_devlink support for software nodes by adding
software_node_add_links(), which creates fwnode links from DEV_PROP_REF
properties to enable automatic probe ordering. Add kunit-managed fwnode
     helpers and test coverage.

   - Fix infinite loop in fwnode_for_each_child_node() when the secondary fwnode
has more than one child. Add test cases.

   - Fix out-of-bounds access in software_node_get_reference_args() when called
     with index -1 (UINT_MAX).

   - Refactor to use RAII approach with __free().

   - Add Bartosz Golaszewski as software node reviewer.

 - firmware loader:

   - Fix race where a sysfs fallback request can complete before being queued as
pending, leading to a use-after-free on the next fallback request.

   - Reject 0-size built-in firmware and fail the build on empty firmware files
     in CONFIG_EXTRA_FIRMWARE.

 - kobject:

   - Provide __KOBJ_ATTR() and __KOBJ_ATTR_RO/WO() initialization macros and
allow the constification of kobject attributes, enabling them to reside in
     read-only memory.

 - platform:

   - Provide platform_device_set_of_node(), platform_device_set_fwnode(), and
     platform_device_set_of_node_from_dev() helpers that encapsulate firmware
node reference counting for dynamically allocated platform devices. Convert
all in-tree users that manually assigned dev.of_node or dev.fwnode, fixing a
pre-existing refcount bug in powermac. Switch to counting references of all
firmware node types, not only OF nodes.

   - Unify the release path for dynamically allocated platform devices by
removing platform_device_release_full(). Amend the fwnode setter API
contract to warn if a primary software node is overwritten. Add KUnit tests
for correct software node removal on device unregistration.

 - Rust:

   - Auxiliary:

     - Add registration_data_with() closure-based API for invariant ForLt types.

   - Debugfs:

     - Migrate BinaryWriter and BinaryReaderMut trait requirements from
       kernel::transmute traits to zerocopy traits.

   - Device:

     - Add BoundInternal device context and InternalBoundContext trait for bus
abstractions that need internal access to a bound device.

     - Make the lifetime on Core and CoreInternal invariant to prevent coercion
       to shorter lifetimes.

   - Devres:

     - Fix race between concurrent revokers where the losing revoker could return
before the winning revoker finished dropping the inner data, causing
       use-after-free.

     - Ensure revocation is complete before the device finishes unbinding by
       making the synchronization bidirectional.

     - Add DevresLt<F: ForLt>, a wrapper around Devres that shortens 'static back
to the caller's borrow scope. Implement ForLt and CovariantForLt for Bar,
       IoMem, and ExclusiveIoMem.

   - Driver:

     - Switch from index-based to pointer-based device ID info lookup, storing
static references in driver_data. Centralize device ID handling in
device_id.rs, removing the open-coded ACPI/OF matching logic and duplicate
       ID table from driver.rs.

   - I/O:

     - Make I/O regions typed (with a dynamically-sized Region type for the
existing untyped case), create view types representing subregions of a
mapped I/O region, and add io_project!() for safely creating subviews.

     - Split Io into a base trait (IoBase) and an extension trait (Io) with a
blanket implementation, preventing implementers from overriding provided
methods that unsafe code relies on.

     - Add a SysMem backend for shared system memory with volatile access, and
make Coherent implement Io via an I/O view type. Add IoSysMap as sum type
of Mmio and SysMem. Add copying methods (memcpy_{from,to}io()) and
       read_val()/write_val() for typed access.

     - Replace dma_read!()/dma_write!() with io_read!()/io_write!() for
primitives and copying methods for aggregates; drop the old macros.
Convert nova-core to use I/O projection.

     - Fix internal shortcut rule dispatch in the register!() macro, remove
unused rule arguments, and use path fragments for alias destinations.

   - IRQ:

     - Make irq::Registration compatible with lifetime-bound drivers by
removing the 'static bound on Handler/ThreadedHandler and
       replacing Devres<RegistrationInner> with direct
request_irq()/free_irq() calls. Handlers can now directly own
       lifetime-bound device resources.

   - PCI:

     - Convert IrqVectorRegistration to a lifetime-annotated owning type,
giving drivers explicit control over the allocation lifetime.
IrqVector embeds a resolved IrqRequest, making the conversion
       infallible. Remove the redundant
       request_irq()/request_threaded_irq() wrappers from pci::Device.

     - Add pci_irq_type() C helper and expose it via irq_type() on
IrqVectorRegistration and IrqVector, returning PCI_IRQ_MSIX, PCI_IRQ_MSI,
       or PCI_IRQ_INTX.

     - Mark pci::Device refcount methods inline.

   - Serdev:

     - Add Rust abstractions for the serial device bus, including serdev::Driver
       trait, serdev::Device wrapping struct serdev_device, and serdev::Adapter
implementing RegistrationOps. Includes a sample driver. Markus Probst
takes over as serdev maintainer for both C and Rust code.

   - Misc:

     - Split ForLt into a base trait (providing the Of<'a> GAT) and an unsafe
CovariantForLt subtrait guaranteeing covariance, enabling invariant types
(e.g. those containing Mutex<&'bound T>) to participate in the ForLt
       abstraction.

     - Fix Coherent read past EOF returning -ERANGE instead of zero.

     - Fix firmware example UB by avoiding null-pointer ARef.

 - misc:

   - Avoid iattr allocation in kernfs listxattr by using kernfs_iattrs_noalloc().
   - Unregister SoC bus on early device registration failure.
   - Remove unused DMA_FENCE_TRACE Kconfig symbol.
   - Fix /sys/module path in comment.
   - Refactor ISA bus init to remove nested blocks.
   - Remove redundant nodemask clears in numa_init().
   - Add kernel-doc for fwnode_operations and sys_soc.h, mark internal property
data as private for kernel-doc, and add property.h/fwnode.h to driver-api
     infrastructure docs.
   - Add MAINTAINERS entry for sys_soc.h.

804b10deb0 clk: various improvements and fixes
Here's various improvements and fixes for the clk subsystem that was posted prior
to the opening of the last merge window.

 - Add spread spectrum clock (SSC) support to the clk framework, including a new
   assigned-clock-sscs devicetree property and clk_hw_set_spread_spectrum()
API with KUnit tests (Peng Fan)
 - Add SCMI clock OEM extensions for the i.MX95 clock driver and introduce a
common SCMI clock header (Peng Fan)
 - Add clock, reset, and devicetree bindings for the ESWIN EIC7700 HSP clock and
   reset generator (Xuyang Dong)

090a95dbe1 pmdomain: mediatek: mfg: initialize prev_o in mtk_mfg_attach_dev()
mtk_mfg_attach_dev() reads prev_o on the first iteration of its loop,
in "if (prev_o && prev_o->freq == o->freq)", before prev_o is assigned
at the end of the loop body. On that first iteration, evaluating prev_o
reads an indeterminate value. If it is non-NULL, the condition
dereferences a stale or invalid pointer, potentially faulting or
incorrectly skipping the first OPP.

Initialize prev_o to NULL. This matches the intent as well: there is no
previous OPP to compare against on the first iteration.

818d56ac1d pmdomain: mediatek: Fix mt8183 hang on boot
Depending on firmware, part of the MFG domains may be partially left ON
at boot time with kernel detecting PD as ON, while it's OFF.

Some of MFG cores may be left powered after bootloader, to let the ACP to
prefetch the GPU region when the display controller is brought up for a
continuous splash animation performed by downstream stack.

This doesn't play well with an eventual delay in probing upstream Panfrost
driver when the display controller is fully set up, as that would make
genpd's sync_state() to power off the domain while ACP tries to prefetch:
this is causing an AXI stall, effectively freezing the AP indefinitely.

In order to prevent trouble from happening, the sync_state() functionality
must be obliterated on all of the MFG domains: while this guarantees a
power leakage if the bootloader boots the kernel with MFG PDs partially
powered on, this is the only way to ensure stable operation of the SoC
during boot on devices with such firmware because, of course, those will
never officially receive a firmware update.

daa5fba89c pmdomain: imx: scu-pd: allow building as a module
Convert CONFIG_IMX_SCU_PD from bool to tristate to allow building as a
loadable module. This is needed on Android devices using the Generic
Kernel Image (GKI), where SoC-specific drivers must be built as modules
rather than built into the core kernel image.

For i.MX8Q devices running Android with a GKI kernel, the SCU power
domain driver must be loadable. Without tristate support, power domains
cannot be properly initialized, preventing these systems from
functioning under GKI.

Use subsys_initcall() so that when built-in the power domain provider
probes before its consumers (e.g. the SCU clock driver at
device_initcall level), fixing "failed to attached the power domain"
warnings at boot. When built as a module, subsys_initcall() is
equivalent to module_init(). No module_exit() is provided because the
SCU power domain provider is a system-level resource that cannot be
safely removed at runtime.

cbb0140379 pmdomains: mediatek: Avoid setting RTFF's CLK_DIS before NRESTORE
For the PCIE_PHY (also called PEXTP_PHY) type of RTFF hardware,
there is special handling setting CLK_DIS before performing the
NRESTORE sequence for resetting the RTFF and start sequencing
from a clean state.

That special handling, though, poses an issue in case the machine
specific bootchain (bootloader in particular) ends up booting the
kernel with both PCIe MAC and PHY enabled (not just power domains)
as doing so will partially corrupt the PCIe MAC/PHY registers in
an unpredictable manner, producing either an initialization fail
in the PCI-Express drivers, or even a hard lockup!

Resolve this by simply removing the special handling: in this case
the bootchain, or remote processors, setting is getting honored by
the later check for PWR_RTFF_SAVE_FLAG presence in the RTFF ctl

86cb2f65aa pmdomain: mediatek: Add support for secure modem power domain control
On recent MediaTek SoCs such as MT6858, the kernel is required to use
a secure monitor call (SMC) to enable or disable the modem power domain.
The power domain control register can be read, but firmware prevents it
from being modified directly. Some other parts of the power sequence,

ce2bf98370 pmdomain: imx: Make IMX8M/IMX9 BLK_CTRL tristate
Convert IMX8M_BLK_CTRL and IMX9_BLK_CTRL from bool to tristate
to allow building as loadable modules.

This change is required to support Android devices using Generic Kernel
Image (GKI) kernels, where SoC-specific drivers must be built as loadable
modules rather than built into the core kernel image.

For i.MX8M and i.MX9 devices running Android with GKI kernels, the
BLK_CTRL drivers therefore need to be loadable. Without tristate
support, power domains cannot be initialized correctly, making these
systems non-functional under GKI.

Add prompt strings to make these options visible and configurable
in menuconfig, keeping them enabled by default on appropriate platforms.

Also remove the IMX_GPCV2_PM_DOMAINS dependency from IMX9_BLK_CTRL.
This dependency was incorrect from the beginning because i.MX93 uses a
different power domain architecture compared to i.MX8M series:

- i.MX8M uses GPCv2 (General Power Controller v2) for power domain
management, hence IMX8M_BLK_CTRL correctly depends on it.

- i.MX93 uses BLK_CTRL directly without GPCv2. The hardware doesn't

Commit 18605b1b936b ("pmdomain: bcm: bcm2835-power: Increase ASB control

Surveying the pmdomain subsystem, 5us is still one of the smallest polling
budgets by a wide margin. Comparable handshakes in other drivers use:

  - 100us : starfive jh71xx-pmu, apple pmgr-pwrstate
  - 1ms : renesas rcar-sysc, rmobile-sysc (power-on)

  - 1s : mediatek mtk-pm-domains, mtk-scpsys

Raise the BCM2835 timeout to 100us, matching analogous drivers. 100us is
still negligible relative to a power-domain transition and gives the V3D
master ASB substantially more headroom to drain under heavy workloads,
assuring us that the timeout is enough for any scenario.

02a2a92c12 pmdomain: mediatek: Add support for Direct CTL simple power sequence
Some new SoCs like MT8196, MT6991, and others, have got one
additional power controller (usually in the HFRP Multimedia
block) which needs a simplified power on/off sequence while
using Direct Control strategy.

Domains using the "simple power sequence" are not backed by
the RTFF hardware, have no Bus Protection mechanism, lacks
the ISO, PWR_ON, PWR_ON_2ND bits, and therefore get enabled
automatically after getting out of reset.

This simple power sequence is then a subset of the full one
as only needs the enablement of the specific power domain's
clock input and reset (where, again, after getting out of
reset, the ISO and PWR_ON bits are automatically internally
getting flipped) to enable or disable (power on or off).

Moreover, the simple power sequence power domains guarantee
that they always get enabled/disabled after executing the
relevant power sequence (on/off) so, differently from the
others, there is also no need to poll for a PWR_ACK.

1f1bbce068 pmdomain: mediatek: Respect PD relationships during error cleanup
In case any probe error occurs (usually, a probe deferral) the
power domains shall be cleaned up while respecting their child
to parent relationship, or the system may freeze.

In order to do that without any memory footprint impacts after
the fact, allocate a temporary array in the probe function and
use it to store the indices of the added power domains in the
correct order.

This will be used in the error cleanup path and will be freed
at the end regardless of the probe status as, when the probing
succeeds, the genpd API takes care of unregistering all PDs in
the correct order anyway.

a4876f11aa pmdomain: mediatek: Fix possible nullptr KP in HWV cleanup/on-check
Should probe fail for HW_VOTER type power domains, this driver was
unconditionally trying to perform cleanup for DIRECT_CTL domains,
but only after checking if the target domain is powered on... with
the DIRECT_CTL scpsys_domain_is_on() code again.

And there's more: the scpsys_domain_is_on() function is also being
unconditionally used in the probe path, for any power domain that
has flag MTK_SCPD_KEEP_DEFAULT_OFF!

This bug was never experienced by anyone because the HWV domains
never failed probe, and because none of those is declared with the
aforementioned flag - but it's still something critical.

In order to fix this, add a check for MTCMOS Type and, based on
that, call the correct functions for an "is on" check, and also
do the same for the cleanup path, calling the correct functions
for the "power off" action.

For the latter, since there's a call to pm_genpd_remove() right
before calling power_off, be cautious and add a variation of the
power off functions (with a _internal suffix) for those to get a
pointer to scpsys_domain instead of one to generic_pm_domain as,
even if that's still working, this is way too much fragile and
would break at some point.

7178817f19 pmdomain: qcom: rpmhpd: Skip retention by default
Retention is very rarely an operational corner. In the majority of
cases, HW cannot operate properly at Retention levels and so the minimum
operational level when enabling a rail is the first corner above
Retention. A small subset of always-on use cases can operate at
Retention, but those aren't controlled from HLOS.

Currently, we allow Retention by default and only disallow it special
cases. But this leaves us open to various failures when the PD is
enabled without first being voted to an OPP above Retention. Such as
when a child GDSC PD requests to enable its parent RPMh PD. In this
case, the GDSC would get stuck powering on.

Newer chips have started supporting Retention on rails that didn't
previously (such as for MMCX). Instead of adding more special cases to
skip Retention on MMCX, start skipping Retention by default since it's
almost never desired from an HLOS perspective.
