eea8bdcb59 Coccinelle patches for Linux v7.3
Sang-Heon Jeon <ekffu200098@gmail.com> has cleaned up a number
 of the semantic patches in the scripts/coccinelle directory,
 particularly with respect to functions that no longer exist in
 the kernel.  He and I have also done some reorganizations that
 improve performance.

93e4b3076b Char/Misc/IIO/etc driver update for 7.3-rc1
Here is the big set of char, misc, iio, counter, fpga, and other small
 driver subsystems for 7.3-rc1.
 
 Overall, due to some driver removals we only added a bit more code than
 removed, which was a nice change.  Highlights in this merge request are:
   - Loads of IIO driver updates and additions
   - binder driver updates (more on that below...)
   - Removal of the SGI XP and GRU drivers as they are not used anymore
     and turn out to be pretty insecure overall
   - Removal of the obsolete ibmasm driver as it's not being used anymore
   - Coresight driver updates and additions
   - Mei driver udpates
   - Counter driver updates
   - FPGA driver updates
   - ICC driver updates
   - lots and lots of other tiny driver updates to resolve reported
     issues
 
 All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with the only reported
 issues being some major merge conflicts.  Miguel pointed out some of
 these with the Rust tree merge, which is the majority of them.  I'll
 follow up with a diffstat of the merge resolution I made against your
 most recent tree, which works for me.

8c59f5c467 scripts: coccinelle: devm_free: reduce false positives
False positives could be introduced due to allocations using the new
_obj functions.  Add these to the "safe" rule accordingly.

False positives could also be introduced when the same variable
name has two possible types.  Incorporate type information to avoid
reporting this case  This does lead to false negatives when no type
information is available.

The outer parentheses and the single-branch disjunction don't matter when
just matching and reporting a line. Eliminating them reduces the
complexity of the pattern to match and gives a performance improvement in
the non-patch cases, like the previous minmax change.

a53cbd1498 coccinelle: mini_lock: improve performance when searching loops
The 'looped' rule collects the returns inside a for loop to
prevent 'err' from reporting them. It searches every for loop in
the file, and on files with large loop bodies the search explodes.

For example, kernel/bpf/verifier.c runs for over 200 seconds,
almost entirely in 'looped' according to --profile. Since the
kernel .cocciconfig sets a 200 second timeout, coccicheck silently
skips the file.

To avoid this, collect the candidate returns first, so that
'looped' checks only those positions. 'err' then excludes what
'looped' found.

Every return that 'err' can report is also a candidate, so the
same returns are excluded as before and the output does not change.
A report-mode run over every .c file in the tree produces identical
output.

So verifier.c now finishes well within the timeout, in a few
seconds.

A cast on a call to an allocation function that is the body of a macro can
be useful, as it ensures tha the macro is used for allocating objects of
the right type.  Add two new rules to ignore the macro case.

The rules that report an opencoded min() or max() search every
function body, even when the file contains nothing to find.

To avoid this, collect the candidates first and run the search only
when one exists. A candidate is any conditional expression whose
condition is a comparison.

Every opencoded min() or max() is also a candidate, so the same
opportunities are reported as before and the output does not
change. A report-mode run over every .c file in the tree produces
identical output.

The 'balanced' rule collects the locks that are taken and released
under the same condition, to prevent them from being reported as a
double lock. It runs on every file that contains a lock call.

To avoid this, collect the double-lock candidates first, so that
'balanced' runs only when one exists. The report then excludes what
'balanced' found.

Every double lock that can be reported is also a candidate, so the
same reports are made as before and the output does not change. A
report-mode run over every .c file in the tree produces identical
output.

5febf432df kbuild: rust: keep Rust objects out of Clang LTO with inline helpers
Under `CONFIG_LTO_CLANG` + `CONFIG_RUST_INLINE_HELPERS`, one may hit
`objtool` errors such as:

    vmlinux.o: error: objtool: _R..._3Gsp4boot+0xd6a:
    can't find jump dest instruction at .text._R..._3Gsp4boot+0x1dfd

The reason is that in such builds, the Clang invocation that compiles
the combined Rust plus helpers bitcode emits LLVM bitcode (again) --
the final code generation happens in the linker's LTO step, which the
`-mllvm` trap options passed to Clang do not reach.

This, in turn, means that unreachable traps are missing, and the
impossible paths do not merely fallthrough to the next symbol, but past
the end of their own section, since LTO builds place each function in
its own section.

Thus filter `CC_FLAGS_LTO` out of the Clang invocation, so that it always
emits machine code directly, with the traps in place.

When `CONFIG_RUST_INLINE_HELPERS` is enabled, it is possible to hit
`objtool` warnings like:

    vmlinux.o: warning: objtool: _R..._4cmdq12CommandToGsp4init()
    falls through to next function _R..._4core5array4iter8IntoIterRShKj3_EEEBa_()

`rustc` normally emits traps for unreachable paths. However, under
`CONFIG_RUST_INLINE_HELPERS=y`, `rustc` emits LLVM bitcode and Clang
performs final code generation after the helper bitcode is linked,
but Clang does not trap unreachable IR by default.

In turn, this means `objtool` follows compiler-generated impossible Rust
`enum` paths through alignment padding into the next function, resulting
in fallthrough warnings.

Thus pass the LLVM `trap-unreachable` option to the final Clang invocation
and suppress traps immediately after `noreturn` calls, which `objtool`
already recognizes as dead ends. The combination of both flags makes it
match `rustc`'s behavior.

Rust 1.85.0 (the minimum supported one) supports LLVM >= 18, and both
flags are available in LLVM 18.

Pull failfs filesystem from Christian Brauner:
 "Add failfs and expose a FD_FAILFS_ROOT sentinel.

  This allows userspace to shed their filesystem state completely. A
  process with its root or working directory in failfs must anchor every
  path lookup at an explicit file descriptor. Absolute paths, absolute
  symlinks and AT_FDCWD-relative lookups simply fail.

  Failfs is the counterpart to nullfs. nullfs says adds a permanently
  empty, immutable directory whose lookups fail with ENOENT but which
  can be opened, read, stat'd and mounted upon. Failfs on the other hand
  fails every operation. The root cannot be opened at all. A single
  instance is mounted during early boot via kern_mount(), which makes it
  logically distinct from every mount namespace.

  This is accompanied by a new fchroot() system call which makes
  chrooting via a file descriptor a first class concept. It's possible
  to chroot into failfs as an unprivileged user provided the task has no
  new privileges set"

modpost: use mod_warn() and mod_error(), clean up logging
Convert all module name logging to use the mod_warn() and mod_error()
helpers, and pass the module to modpost_log() where used directly, to
always have the module name prefixed in the log message, with .ko suffix
for modules.

Pass struct module *mod around in a few places instead of just
mod->name.

Further unify the logging while at it. Use single quotes instead of
double quotes for symbols, sections, and namespaces. Explicitly state
it's a "symbol" when referencing symbols.

modpost: add module as parameter to modpost_log()
modpost has a lot of error logging with module name, but the module name
is logged in a plethora of ways. Add struct module * parameter to
modpost_log(), and wrappers mod_warn() and mod_error(), to allow logging
with a unified module name, if provided.

If the module is provided, the messages will be of the format:

(ERROR|WARNING): modpost: (modname.ko|vmlinux): message

Actual conversion is done separately.

35e4b60792 kconfig: fix submenu rendering of negative dependencies
The Kconfig frontend should render options that depend on a
previous option in the submenu of that previous option. But
currently, this breaks for negative dependencies. For example,
option FOO may be rendered in the submenu of option BAR, despite
FOO actually depending on !BAR.

Let's fix this ironic rendering by modifying Kconfig to explicitly
check negative dependencies.

I've only tested locally on x86, but as far as I can tell, this only
changes how 2 options are rendered in the menu:
1. NTFS3_FS, no longer in the NTFS_FS submenu, and
2. MTD_BLOCK_RO, no longer in the MTD_BLOCK submenu.

225c308128 HID: add documentation and Coccinelle script for FF registration race
HID drivers that rely on the HID core to register input devices must
ensure that all private data and capabilities (like force-feedback) are
fully initialized before registration.

When hid_hw_start() is called with HID_CONNECT_HIDINPUT, the input
device is registered immediately. This is racy if the driver attempts to
augment the input device in probe() after starting the hardware.

The correct way to handle this is to use the .input_configured()
callback.

Add documentation and a Coccinelle script to detect and prevent this
anti-pattern.

after a function's final closing brace, but checkpatch doesn't know that
yet.  As a result, checkpatch --strict incorrectly flags this common
kernel pattern, e.g.,
