d5312a7ef7 perf dwarf: Avoid redefinition warnings for REG_DWARFNUM_NAME
dwarf-regs.c includes an arch-specific dwarf-regs-table.h for several
architectures. This pulls in different definitions of REG_DWARFNUM_NAME
and causes compiler warnings for W=1 builds.

In file included from util/dwarf-regs.c:23:

  .../dwarf-regs-table.h:5: error: "REG_DWARFNUM_NAME" redefined [-Werror]
   #define REG_DWARFNUM_NAME(reg, idx) [idx] = reg

Undefine REG_DWARFNUM_NAME before each new definition.

c9d77f0a0c tools headers: Update the syscall tables and unistd.h, to support the new 'rseq_slice_yield' syscall
Picking up the changes from these csets:

  2153b2e891 ("sparc: Add architecture support for clone3")
  99d2592023 ("rseq: Implement sys_rseq_slice_yield()")
  4ac286c4a8 ("s390/syscalls: Switch to generic system call table generation")

This makes 'perf trace' support it, now its possible, for instance, to
do:

  # perf trace -e rseq_slice_yield --max-stack=16

Here is an example with the 'sendmmsg' syscall:

To do a system wide tracing of the new 'rseq_slice_yield' syscall with a
backtrace of at most 16 entries.

16dccbb842 perf regs: Remove __weak attributive arch__xxx_reg_mask() functions
Currently, some architecture-specific perf-regs functions, such as
arch__intr_reg_mask() and arch__user_reg_mask(), are defined with the
__weak attribute.

This approach ensures that only functions matching the architecture of
the build/run host are compiled and executed, reducing build time and
binary size.

However, this __weak attribute restricts these functions to be called
only on the same architecture, preventing cross-architecture
functionality.

For example, a perf.data file captured on x86 cannot be parsed on an ARM
platform.

To address this limitation, this patch removes the __weak attribute from
these perf-regs functions.

The architecture-specific code is moved from the arch/ directory to the
util/perf-regs-arch/ directory.

The appropriate architectural functions are then called based on the
EM_HOST.

No functional changes are intended.

e716e69cf6 perf arch: Update arch headers to use relative UAPI paths
The architectural specific headers perf_regs.h currently rely on the
host architecture's 'asm/perf_regs.h'.

This can lead to compilation inconsistencies or failures when including
and building perf for a target architecture that differs from the host's
architecture.

Explicitly point to the UAPI headers within the tools source tree using
relative paths.

This ensures that perf is always built against the intended
architecture.

No functional changes are intended.

ceea279f93 perf kvm stat: Remove use of the arch directory
`perf kvm stat` supports record and report options.

By using the arch directory a report for a different machine type cannot
be supported.

Move the kvm-stat code out of the arch directory and into
util/kvm-stat-arch following the pattern of perf-regs and dwarf-regs.

Avoid duplicate symbols by renaming functions to have the architecture
name within them.

For global variables, wrap them in an architecture specific function.
Selecting the architecture to use with `perf kvm stat` is selected by
EM_HOST, ie no different than before the change.

Later the ELF machine can be determined from the session or a header
feature (ie EM_HOST at the time of the record).

The build and #define HAVE_KVM_STAT_SUPPORT is now redundant so remove
across Makefiles and in the build.

Opportunistically constify architectural structs and arrays.

3d06db9bad perf regs: Refactor use of arch__sample_reg_masks() to perf_reg_name()
arch__sample_reg_masks isn't supported on ARM(32), csky, loongarch,
MIPS, RISC-V and s390.

The table returned by the function just has the name of a register
paired with the corresponding sample_regs_user mask value.

For a given perf register we can compute the name with perf_reg_name and
the mask is just 1 left-shifted by the perf register number.

Change __parse_regs to use this method for finding registers rather than
arch__sample_reg_masks, thereby adding __parse_regs support for ARM(32),
csky, loongarch, MIPS, RISC-V and s390.

As arch__sample_reg_masks is then unused, remove the now unneeded
declarations.

07b972ff09 perf disasm: Don't include C files from the arch directory
Move the arch instructions.c files into appropriately named files in
annotate-arch in the util directory.

Don't #include to compile the code, switch to building the files and fix
up the #includes accordingly.

Move powerpc specific disasm code out of disasm.c and into
annotate-powerpc.c.

Declarations and static removed as appropriate for the code to compile
as separate compilation units.

The e_machine and e_flags set up is moved to the disasm.c architectures
array so that later patches can sort by them.

00419892ba perf annotate: Fix args leak of map_symbol
map_symbol__exit() needs calling on an annotate_args.ms, however, rather
than introduce proper reference count handling to symbol__annotate()
just switch to passing the map_symbol pointer parameter around, making
the puts the caller's responsibility.

Fix a number of cases to ensure the map in a map_symbol has a
reference count increment and add the then necessary map_symbol_exits.

e62fae9d9e perf unwind-libdw: Fix a cross-arch unwinding bug
The set_initial_registers field of Dwfl_Thread_Callbacks needs to be set
according to the arch of the stack samples being analyzed, not the arch
that perf itself is built for.

Currently perf fails to unwind stack samples collected from archs
different from that of the host perf is running on.

This patch moves the arch-specific implementations of set_initial_registers
from tools/perf/arch to tools/perf/utli/unwind-libdw-arch, similar to the

754187ad73 perf build: Remove NO_AUXTRACE build option
The NO_AUXTRACE build option was used when the __get_cpuid feature
test failed or if it was provided on the command line. The option no
longer avoids a dependency on a library and so having the option is
just adding complexity to the code base. Remove the option
CONFIG_AUXTRACE from Build files and HAVE_AUXTRACE_SUPPORT by assuming
it is always defined.

af472d3c44 perf syscalltbl: Remove syscall_table.h
The definition of "static const char *const syscalltbl[] = {" is done
in a generated syscalls_32.h or syscalls_64.h that is architecture
dependent. In order to include the appropriate file a syscall_table.h
is found via the perf include path and it includes the syscalls_32.h
or syscalls_64.h as appropriate.

To support having multiple syscall tables, one for 32-bit and one for
64-bit, or for different architectures, an include path cannot be
used. Remove syscall_table.h because of this and inline what it does
into syscalltbl.c.

For architectures without a syscall_table.h this will cause a failure
to include either syscalls_32.h or syscalls_64.h rather than a failure
to include syscall_table.h. For architectures that only included one
or other, the behavior matches BITS_PER_LONG as previously done on
architectures supporting both syscalls_32.h and syscalls_64.h.

494c403ff1 perf header: Pass a perf_cpu rather than a PMU to get_cpuid_str
On ARM the cpuid is dependent on the core type of the CPU in
question. The PMU was passed for the sake of the CPU map but this
means in places a temporary PMU is created just to pass a CPU
value. Just pass the CPU and fix up the callers.

As there are no longer PMU users in header.h, shuffle forward
declarations earlier to work around build failures.

cec0d6572a perf header: Refactor get_cpuid to take a CPU for ARM
ARM BIG.little has no notion of a constant CPUID for both core
types. To reflect this reality, change the get_cpuid function to also
pass in a possibly unused logical cpu.

If the dummy value (-1) is passed in then ARM can, as currently happens,
select the first logical CPU's "CPUID".

The changes to ARM getcpuid happen in a follow up change.

ddbfb6f20c perf build: Remove PERF_HAVE_DWARF_REGS
PERF_HAVE_DWARF_REGS was true when an architecture had a dwarf-regs.c
file. There are no more architecture dwarf-regs.c files, selection is
done using constants from the ELF file rather than conditional
compilation. When removing PERF_HAVE_DWARF_REGS was the only variable
in the Makefile, remove the Makefile.

Add missing SPDX for RISC-V Makefile.

The file just provides the function get_arch_regstr, however, if in
the only caller get_dwarf_regstr EM_HOST is used for the EM_NONE case
the function can never be called. So remove as dead code. Tidy up the
EM_NONE cases for s390 in dwarf-regs.c.

6ac75289b2 perf dwarf-regs: Remove PERF_HAVE_ARCH_REGS_QUERY_REGISTER_OFFSET
PERF_HAVE_ARCH_REGS_QUERY_REGISTER_OFFSET was used for BPF prologue
support which was removed in Commit 3d6dfae889 ("perf parse-events:
Remove BPF event support"). The code is no longer used so remove.

Remove the offset from various dwarf-regs.c tables and the dependence
on ptrace.h. Rename structs starting pt_ as the ptrace derived offset is
now removed.

1b4406d2a8 perf annotate: Update parameters for reg extract functions to use raw instruction on powerpc
Use the raw instruction code and macros to identify memory instructions,
extract register fields and also offset.

The implementation addresses the D-form, X-form, DS-form instructions.

Adds "mem_ref" field to check whether source/target has memory
reference.

Add function "get_powerpc_regs" which will set these fields: reg1, reg2,
offset depending of where it is source or target ops.

Update "parse" callback for "struct ins_ops" to also pass "struct
disasm_line" as argument. This is needed in parse functions where opcode
is used to determine whether to set multi_regs and other fields

c2bd08ba20 treewide: remove meaningless assignments in Makefiles
In Makefiles, $(error ), $(warning ), and $(info ) expand to the empty
string, as explained in the GNU Make manual [1]:
 "The result of the expansion of this function is the empty string."

Therefore, they are no-op except for logging purposes.

$(shell ...) expands to the output of the command. It expands to the
empty string when the command does not print anything to stdout.
Hence, $(shell mkdir ...) is no-op except for creating the directory.

Remove meaningless assignments.

9a4e47ef98 perf parse-regs: Introduce a weak function arch__sample_reg_masks()
Every architecture can provide a register list for sampling. If an
architecture doesn't support register sampling, it won't define the data
structure 'sample_reg_masks'. Consequently, any code using this
structure must be protected by the macro 'HAVE_PERF_REGS_SUPPORT'.

This patch defines a weak function, arch__sample_reg_masks(), which will

 - Add three new syscalls: lsm_list_modules(), lsm_get_self_attr(), and

   The first syscall simply lists the LSMs enabled, while the second and
   third get and set the current process' LSM attributes. Yes, these
   syscalls may provide similar functionality to what can be found under
   /proc or /sys, but they were designed to support multiple,
   simultaneaous (stacked) LSMs from the start as opposed to the current
   /proc based solutions which were created at a time when only one LSM
   was allowed to be active at a given time.

   We have spent considerable time discussing ways to extend the
   existing /proc interfaces to support multiple, simultaneaous LSMs and
   even our best ideas have been far too ugly to support as a kernel
   API; after +20 years in the kernel, I felt the LSM layer had
   established itself enough to justify a handful of syscalls.

   Support amongst the individual LSM developers has been nearly
   unanimous, with a single objection coming from Tetsuo (TOMOYO) as he
   is worried that the LSM_ID_XXX token concept will make it more
   difficult for out-of-tree LSMs to survive. Several members of the LSM
   community have demonstrated the ability for out-of-tree LSMs to
   continue to exist by picking high/unused LSM_ID values as well as
   pointing out that many kernel APIs rely on integer identifiers, e.g.
   syscalls (!), but unfortunately Tetsuo's objections remain.

   My personal opinion is that while I have no interest in penalizing
   out-of-tree LSMs, I'm not going to penalize in-tree development to
   support out-of-tree development, and I view this as a necessary step
   forward to support the push for expanded LSM stacking and reduce our
   reliance on /proc and /sys which has occassionally been problematic
   for some container users. Finally, we have included the linux-api
   folks on (all?) recent revisions of the patchset and addressed all of
   their concerns.

 - Add a new security_file_ioctl_compat() LSM hook to handle the 32-bit
   ioctls on 64-bit systems problem.

   This patch includes support for all of the existing LSMs which
   provide ioctl hooks, although it turns out only SELinux actually
   cares about the individual ioctls. It is worth noting that while
   Casey (Smack) and Tetsuo (TOMOYO) did not give explicit ACKs to this
   patch, they did both indicate they are okay with the changes.

 - Fix a potential memory leak in the CALIPSO code when IPv6 is disabled
   at boot.

   While it's good that we are fixing this, I doubt this is something
   users are seeing in the wild as you need to both disable IPv6 and
   then attempt to configure IPv6 labeled networking via
   NetLabel/CALIPSO; that just doesn't make much sense.

   Normally this would go through netdev, but Jakub asked me to take
   this patch and of all the trees I maintain, the LSM tree seemed like
   the best fit.

 - Update the LSM MAINTAINERS entry with additional information about
   our process docs, patchwork, bug reporting, etc.

   I also noticed that the Lockdown LSM is missing a dedicated
   MAINTAINERS entry so I've added that to the pull request. I've been
   working with one of the major Lockdown authors/contributors to see if
   they are willing to step up and assume a Lockdown maintainer role;
   hopefully that will happen soon, but in the meantime I'll continue to
   look after it.

 - Add a handful of mailmap entries for Serge Hallyn and myself.

d3968c974a tools/perf: Update tools's copy of s390 syscall table
tldr; Just FYI, I'm carrying this on the perf tools tree.

Full explanation:

There used to be no copies, with tools/ code using kernel headers
directly. From time to time tools/perf/ broke due to legitimate kernel
hacking. At some point Linus complained about such direct usage. Then we
adopted the current model.

The way these headers are used in perf are not restricted to just
including them to compile something.

There are sometimes used in scripts that convert defines into string
tables, etc, so some change may break one of these scripts, or new MSRs
may use some different #define pattern, etc.

E.g.:

The tools/perf/check-headers.sh script, part of the tools/ build
process, points out changes in the original files.

So its important not to touch the copies in tools/ when doing changes in
the original kernel headers, that will be done later, when

     can have several terms including event name. But sometimes it
     clashes with raw event encoding which starts with 'r' and has

ff382c1ce8 perf parse-regs: Move out arch specific header from util/perf_regs.h
util/perf_regs.h includes another perf_regs.h:

  #include <perf_regs.h>

Here it includes architecture specific header, for example, if we build
arm64 target, the header tools/perf/arch/arm64/include/perf_regs.h is
included.

We use this implicit way to include architecture specific header, which
is not directive; furthermore, util/perf_regs.c is coupled with the
architecture specific definitions.

This patch moves out arch specific header from util/perf_regs.h for
generalizing the 'util' folder, as a result, the source files in 'arch'
folder explicitly include architecture's perf_regs.h.

856caabf72 perf parse-regs: Remove PERF_REGS_{MAX|MASK} from common code
The macros PERF_REGS_MAX and PERF_REGS_MASK are architecture specific,
let's remove them from the common file util/perf_regs.c.

As a side effect, the weak functions arch__intr_reg_mask() and
arch__user_reg_mask() just return zeros, every arch defines its own
functions in the 'arch' folder for returning right values.

Note, we don't need to return intr/user register masks dynamically, this
is because these two functions are invoked during recording phase but
not decoding phase, they are always invoked on the native environment,
thus we don't need to parse them dynamically.

In the perf annotate view for LoongArch, there is no arrowed line
pointing to the target from the branch instruction. This issue is
caused by incorrect instruction association and parsing.

This patch fixes instruction association issues, such as associating
branch instructions with jump_ops instead of call_ops, and corrects
false instruction matches. It also implements branch instruction parsing
specifically for LoongArch. With this patch, we will be able to see the
