unpack_pdb() may need to allocate a missing ACCEPT2 table for older policy
data. If that allocation failed, it set an error message but jumped to the
success path, returning a policydb with the required table missing.
Return -ENOMEM through the normal failure path when the ACCEPT2 allocation
fails. Remove the now-unused out label.

When the export_binary parameter is set, then rawdata is available and
there should be a symbolic link for the rawdata in the profile
directory in apparmorfs. If the parameter is unset, then the symlinks
should not exist.
The issue arises when changing the value of export_binary on runtime
and replacing profiles. If export_binary was set when the profile was
originally loaded, then changed to 0 and the profile was reloaded,
then the symbolic links would still exist but would return ENOENT
because the rawdata no longer exists.
On the opposite side, if export_binary was unset when the profile was
originally loaded, then changed to 1 and the profile was reloaded,
then the symbolic links would not exist, even though the rawdata does.

Currently fn_label_build() callback fns must provide a transition or
failure. Change this so that a callback can indicate it should be
skipped/not be involved in the label being built.
This will be useful when building object labels based on mediation
flags, as to whether the label should be set.
Existing callers can keep treating NULL return as an error because
none of those callback fns support skipping, but instead of the old
error handling replace with AA_BUG.

There was a race condition involving change_hat and profile replacement in
which replacement of the parent profile during a changehat operation could
result in the list of children becoming empty and the changehat operation
failing. To prevent this:
- grab the namespace lock until we've built the hat transition, and
- use aa_get_newest_profile to avoid using stale profile objects.

Currently, if the `kvzalloc` in `unpack_table` fails, it returns NULL.
This is masked by `aa_dfa_unpack` which interprets NULL as a -EPROTO,
leading to confusing error messages in `apparmor_parser` [1].
The fixed behavior correctly propagates -ENOMEM on allocation failure.

aa_label_alloc() allocates a secid before allocating or taking the label
proxy. If the later proxy step fails, the error path only freed the label
memory, leaking any resources initialized by aa_label_init().
Use aa_label_free() on the failure path so partially initialized labels
release their secid and other label resources before the backing memory is
freed.

aa_change_profile() builds a replacement label with
fn_label_build_in_scope() before the no_new_privs subset check. The build
helper can fail and return NULL or an ERR_PTR, but the result was passed
to aa_label_is_unconfined_subset() before the existing IS_ERR_OR_NULL()
check.
Reuse the existing target-label build failure handling immediately after
the build. This preserves the current audit handling while preventing the
subset helper from dereferencing an invalid label.

get_newest_label() will always return a refcount, on the profile it
returns. However there are cases where we only need the refcount
if the label is stale and get_newest_label() will return a different
label.
Optimize this by making the get/put happen conditionally, by keeping
a flag indicating if the get was performed and a put is needed.

Currently update_sk_ctx() transfers the plabel reference, unfortunately
it is also unconditionally put in the caller. Ideally we would make
the caller conditionally put the reference based on whether it was
transferred but for now just fix the bug by getting a reference.

The holding a reference to the peer_sk is not enough to ensure access
to the peer sk path. Accessing the path outside of the state lock
allows for a race with unix_release_sock(). Fix this by taking the
state lock and getting a reference to the path under lock.
Ideally for connected sockets we would cache this information so we
don't have to take the lock here. But for now just fix the race.

Add support for a second fine-grained UDP access right.
LANDLOCK_ACCESS_NET_CONNECT_SEND_UDP controls the ability to set the
remote port of a socket (via connect()) and to specify an explicit
destination when sending a datagram, to override any remote peer set on
a UDP socket (e.g. in sendto() or sendmsg()). It will be useful for
applications that send datagrams, and for some servers too (those
creating per-client sockets, which want to receive traffic only from a
specific address).
Similarly as for bind(), this access control is performed when
configuring sockets, not in hot code paths.
Add detection of when autobind is about to be required, and deny the
operation if the process would not be allowed to call bind(0)
explicitly. Autobind can only be performed in udp_lib_get_port() from
code paths already controlled by LSM hooks: when connect()ing, sending a
first datagram, and in some splice() EOF edge case which, afaiu, can
only happen after a remote peer has been set. This invariant needs to be
preserved to keep bind policies actually enforced.

Add support for a first fine-grained UDP access right.
LANDLOCK_ACCESS_NET_BIND_UDP controls the ability to set the local port
of a UDP socket (via bind()). It will be useful for servers (to start
receiving datagrams), and for some clients that need to use a specific
source port (e.g. mDNS requires to use port 5353)
For obvious performance concerns, access control is only enforced when
configuring sockets, not when using them for common send/recv
operations.
Bump ABI to allow userspace to detect and use this new right.

LANDLOCK_SCOPE_SIGNAL must prevent a sandboxed process from signaling
processes outside its Landlock domain. It can be bypassed through the
asynchronous SIGIO delivery path.
A sandboxed process that owns any file or socket can arm it with
fcntl(fd, F_SETOWN, -pgid), fcntl(fd, F_SETSIG, SIGKILL) and O_ASYNC, so
that an I/O event makes the kernel deliver the chosen signal to the
whole process group. As the head of its process group's task list (the
default position right after fork()) that group can also hold the
non-sandboxed process that launched it, e.g. a supervisor or a security
monitor. The sandbox can thus kill or signal the processes
LANDLOCK_SCOPE_SIGNAL is meant to protect from it.
The scope is enforced in hook_file_send_sigiotask() against the Landlock
domain recorded at F_SETOWN time, not the live domain of the sender.
control_current_fowner() decides whether to record that domain and skips
recording it when the fowner target is in the caller's thread group,
which is safe only for a single-task target (PIDTYPE_PID, PIDTYPE_TGID).
For a process group (PIDTYPE_PGID) pid_task() returns only one member;
recording is skipped whenever that member shares the caller's thread
group, and hook_file_send_sigiotask() then lets the signal fan out to
the whole group unchecked.
Record the domain for every non single-process target so the scope is
enforced against each group member at delivery time.
That recording is necessary but not sufficient on its own: the kernel
signals a process group through its members' thread-group leaders, and
the leader of the registrant's own process can carry a different
Landlock domain than the sibling thread that armed the owner.
domain_is_scoped() would then deny that leader, even though commit
18eb75f3af ("landlock: Always allow signals between threads of the
same process") requires same-process delivery to be allowed.
hook_task_kill() avoids this by evaluating same_thread_group() live, per
recipient; the SIGIO path instead delegates the whole decision to a
single registration-time check, which a process-group fan-out cannot
honor.
So also record the registrant's thread group next to its domain and
exempt it at delivery: hook_file_send_sigiotask() allows the signal
whenever the recipient belongs to the registrant's own process,
restoring the same-process guarantee while keeping out-of-domain group
members blocked. The direct kill() path (hook_task_kill) already
evaluates the live domain and is unaffected.

Mark the kzalloc_flex() of struct landlock_details with
GFP_KERNEL_ACCOUNT so the allocation is charged to the calling task,
like the other Landlock per-domain allocations which have used
GFP_KERNEL_ACCOUNT forever.
Every property of landlock_details is caller-attributable: allocated by
landlock_restrict_self(2), owned by the caller's landlock_hierarchy,
contents are the caller's pid, uid, comm, and exe_path, lifetime bounded
by the caller's domain. While the caller may not know nor control the
size of this allocation (i.e. exe_path), this data should still be
accounted for it.
The deciding factor is whether userspace can trigger the allocation, not
whether the size of the data is known nor controlled by the caller.
This aligns with the kmemcg accounting policy established by commit
5d097056c9 ("kmemcg: account certain kmem allocations to memcg").
No new failure modes: the hierarchy and ruleset are allocated before
details and are already accounted, so landlock_restrict_self(2) already
returns -ENOMEM under memcg pressure. This change widens that existing
failure window slightly; it does not introduce a new error code.

Set audit_net.sk in current_check_access_socket() to provide the socket
object to audit_log_lsm_data(). This makes Landlock consistent with
AppArmor, which always sets .sk for socket operations, and with
SELinux's generic socket permission checks.
The socket's local and foreign address information (laddr, lport, faddr,
fport) is logged by the shared lsm_audit.c infrastructure when the
socket has bound or connected state. Fields with zero values are
suppressed by print_ipv4_addr()/print_ipv6_addr(), so the audit output
is unchanged for the common case of bind denials on unbound sockets.
For connect denials after a prior bind, the bound local address (laddr,
lport) appears before the existing sockaddr fields (daddr, dest).
No existing fields are removed or reordered, and the new field names
(laddr, lport, faddr, fport) are standard audit fields already emitted
by other LSMs through the same lsm_audit.c code path.
Add a connect_tcp_bound audit test that binds to an allowed port and
then connects to a denied one, verifying that the denial record reports
laddr/lport from the bound socket in addition to the connect
destination.

Add support for sending a value N between 1 and ULONG_MAX to the IMA
original measurement interface. This value represents the number of
measurements that should be deleted from the current measurements list. In
this case, measurements are staged in an internal non-user visible list,
and immediately deleted.
This staging method allows the remote attestation agents to easily separate
the measurements that were verified (staged and deleted) from those that
weren't due to the race between taking a TPM quote and reading the
measurements list.
In order to minimize the locking time of ima_extend_list_mutex, deleting
N records is realized by doing a lockless walk in the current measurements
list to determine the N-th entry to cut, to cut the current measurements
list under the lock, and by deleting the excess records after releasing the
lock.
Flushing the hash table is not supported for N records, since it would
require removing the N records one by one from the hash table under the
ima_extend_list_mutex lock, which would increase the locking time.

During staging and delete, measurements are not completely deallocated.
Their entry digest portion is kept and is still reachable with the hash
table to detect duplicate records. If the number of records is significant,
this reduces the memory saving benefit of staging.
Some users might be interested in achieving the best memory saving (the
measurements are completely deallocated) at the cost of having duplicate
records across the staged measurement lists. Duplicate records are still
avoided within the current measurement list.
Introduce the new kernel option ima_flush_htable to decide whether or not
the digests of staged measurement records are flushed from the hash table,
when they are deleted, to achieve the maximum memory saving.
When the option is enabled, replace the old hash table with a new one,
by calling ima_alloc_replace_htable(), and completely delete the
measurements records.

Introduce the ability of staging the IMA measurement list and deleting them
with a prompt.
Staging means moving the current measurement list records to a separate
location, and allowing users to read and delete it. This causes the current
measurement list to be emptied (since records were moved) and new
measurements to be added on the empty list. Staging can be done only once
at a time. In the event of kexec(), staging is aborted and staged records
will be carried over to the new kernel.
Introduce ascii_runtime_measurements_<algo>_staged and
binary_runtime_measurements_<algo>_staged interfaces to access and delete
the measurements.
Use 'echo A > <IMA _staged interface>' and
'echo D > <IMA _staged interface>' to respectively stage and delete the
entire measurements list. Locking of these interfaces is also mediated with
a call to _ima_measurements_open() and with ima_measurements_release().
Implement the staging functionality by introducing the new global
measurements list ima_measurements_staged, and ima_queue_stage() and
ima_queue_staged_delete_all() to respectively move measurements from the
current measurements list to the staged one, and to move staged
measurements to the ima_measurements_trim list for deletion. Introduce
ima_queue_delete() to delete the measurements.
Staging is forbidden after measurement is suspended, and between staging
and deleting, so that walking the staged and current measurements list can
be done locklessly in ima_dump_measurement_list(). Strict ordering of
suspending and dumping is enforced by two reboot notifiers with different
priority. Refusing to delete staged measurements also signals to user space
that those measurements are already carried over to the secondary kernel,
so that it does not save them twice.
Finally, introduce the BINARY_STAGED and BINARY_FULL binary measurements
list types, to maintain the counters and the binary size of staged
measurements and the full measurements list (including records that were
staged). BINARY still represents the current binary measurements list.
Use the binary size for the BINARY + BINARY_STAGED types in
ima_add_kexec_buffer(), since both measurements list types are copied to
the secondary kernel during kexec. Use BINARY_FULL in
ima_measure_kexec_event(), to generate a critical data record.
It should be noted that the BINARY_FULL counter is not passed through
kexec. Thus, the number of records included in the kexec critical data
records refers to the records since the critical data records generated
from the previous kexec event.

Introduce the ima_measure_users counter, to implement a semaphore-like
locking scheme where the binary and ASCII measurements list interfaces can
be concurrently opened by multiple readers, or alternatively by a single
writer. In addition, allow the same writer to open the other interfaces for
write or read/write, so that it can see the same measurement state across
all the interfaces.
A semaphore cannot be used because the kernel cannot return to user space
with a lock held.
Introduce the ima_measure_lock() and ima_measure_unlock() primitives, to
respectively lock/unlock the interfaces (safely with the ima_measure_users
counter, without holding a lock).
Finally, introduce _ima_measurements_open() to lock the interface before
seq_open(), and call it from ima_measurements_open() and
ima_ascii_measurements_open(). And, introduce ima_measurements_release(),
to unlock the interface.
Require CAP_SYS_ADMIN if the interface is opened for write (not possible
for the current measurements interfaces, since they only have read
permission).
No functional changes: multiple readers are allowed as before.

list head as an additional parameter, so that iteration on different lists
can be implemented by calling those functions.

Make binary_runtime_size as an array, to have separate counters per binary
measurements list type. Currently, define the BINARY type for the existing
binary measurements list.
Introduce ima_update_binary_runtime_size() to facilitate updating a
binary_runtime_size value with a given binary measurement list type.
Also add the binary measurements list type parameter to
ima_get_binary_runtime_size(), to retrieve the desired value. Retrieving
the value is now done under the ima_extend_list_mutex, since there can be
concurrent updates.
No functional change (except for the mutex usage, that fixes the
concurrency issue): the BINARY array element is equivalent to the old
binary_runtime_size.

The IMA hash table is a fixed-size array of hlist_head buckets:
struct hlist_head ima_htable[IMA_MEASURE_HTABLE_SIZE];
IMA_MEASURE_HTABLE_SIZE is (1 << IMA_HASH_BITS) = 1024 buckets, each a
struct hlist_head (one pointer, 8 bytes on 64-bit). That is 8 KiB allocated
in BSS for every kernel, regardless of whether IMA is ever used, and
regardless of how many measurements are actually made.
Replace the fixed-size array with a RCU-protected pointer to a dynamically
allocated array that is initialized in ima_init_htable(), which is called
from ima_init() during early boot. ima_init_htable() calls the static
function ima_alloc_replace_htable() which, other than initializing the hash
table the first time, can also hot-swap the existing hash table with a
blank one.
The allocation in ima_alloc_replace_htable() uses kcalloc() so the buckets
are zero-initialised (equivalent to HLIST_HEAD_INIT { .first = NULL }).
Callers of ima_alloc_replace_htable() must call synchronize_rcu() and free
the returned hash table.
Finally, access the hash table with rcu_dereference() in
ima_lookup_digest_entry() (reader side) and with
rcu_dereference_protected() in ima_add_digest_entry() (writer side).
No functional change: bucket count, hash function, and all locking remain
identical.

The ima_h_table structure is a collection of IMA measurement list
metadata - number of records in the IMA measurement list, number of
integrity violations, and a hash table containing the IMA template data
hash, needed to prevent measurement list record duplication.
Removing records from the measurement list needs to be reflected in the
hash table. As a pre-req to removing records from the measurement list,
separate those counters from the hash table, remove the ima_h_table
structure, and just replace the hash table pointer.
Finally, rename ima_show_htable_value(), ima_show_htable_violations()
and ima_htable_violations_ops respectively to ima_show_counter(),
ima_show_num_violations() and ima_num_violations_ops.

Add a new netlink method to migrate a single xfrm_state.
Unlike the existing migration mechanism (SA + policy), this
supports migrating only the SA and allows changing the reqid.
The SA is looked up via xfrm_usersa_id, which uniquely
identifies it, so old_saddr is not needed. old_daddr is carried in
xfrm_usersa_id.daddr.
The reqid is invariant in the old migration.

Nicholas Carlini reports that the keyring code calls assoc_array_find()
in find_key_to_update() without holding the RCU read lock, while the
assoc_array_gc() code really is designed around removing the node from
the tree and then freeing it after an RCU grace-period.
The regular key handling doesn't see this because holding the keyring
semaphore hides any lifetime issues, but the persistent key handling
uses a different model.
Instead of extending the keyring locking, just do the simple RCU locking
that the assoc_array was designed for.

Several functions in selinuxfs.c allocate temporary buffers using
__get_free_page() or get_zeroed_page().
These buffers are used either to store a string generated by snprintf() (in
sel_make_bools()) or to copy data from user (sel_read_avc_hash_stats() and
sel_read_sidtab_hash_stats()).
Such usage does not require struct page access and it is better to allocate
these buffers with kzalloc()/kmalloc() that provide better scalability and
more debugging possibilities.
Replace use of get_zeroed_page() with kzalloc() and usage of
__get_free_page() with kmalloc().

evm_read_xattrs() allocates size + 1 bytes, fills them from the list of
enabled xattrs, and then passes strlen(temp) to
simple_read_from_buffer(). When no configured xattrs are enabled, the
fill loop stores nothing and temp[0] remains uninitialized, so strlen()
reads beyond initialized memory.
Explicitly terminate the buffer after allocation, use snprintf() for
each formatted line, and pass the accumulated length, without risk of
truncation, to simple_read_from_buffer().

Add support for sigv3 signature verification using ML-DSA in pure mode.
When a sigv3 signature is verified, first check whether the key to use
for verification is an ML-DSA key and therefore uses a hashless signature
verification scheme. The hashless signature verification method uses the
ima_file_id structure directly for signature verification rather than
its digest.

Refactor asymmetric_verify for reusability. Have it call
asymmetric_verify_common with the signature verification key and the
public_key structure as parameters. sigv3 support for ML-DSA will need to
check the public key type first to decide how to do the signature
verification and therefore will have these parameters available for

In multiple places the binary policy announces how many items of some
kind are to be expected next. Before reading them the kernel already
allocates enough memory for that announced size. Validate that the

Currently there can only be a single open of /sys/fs/selinux/policy at
any time. This allows any process to block any other process from
reading the kernel policy. The original motivation seems to have been
a mix of preventing an inconsistent view of the policy size and
preventing userspace from allocating kernel memory without bound, but
this is arguably equally bad. Eliminate the policy_opened flag and
shrink the critical section that the policy mutex is held. While we
are making changes here, drop a couple of extraneous BUG_ONs.

Remove the previously deprecated /sys/fs/selinux/user interface aside
from a residual stub for userspace compatibility.
Commit d7b6918e22 ("selinux: Deprecate /sys/fs/selinux/user") started
the deprecation process for /sys/fs/selinux/user:
The selinuxfs "user" node allows userspace to request a list
of security contexts that can be reached for a given SELinux
user from a given starting context. This was used by libselinux
when various login-style programs requested contexts for
users, but libselinux stopped using it in 2020.
Kernel support will be removed no sooner than Dec 2025.
A pr_warn() message has been in place since Linux v6.13, and a 5
second sleep was introduced since Linux v6.17 to help make it more
noticeable.
We are now past the stated deadline of Dec 2025, so remove the
underlying functionality and replace it with a stub that returns a
'0\0' buffer to avoid breaking userspace. This also avoids a local DoS
from logspam and an uninterruptible sleep delay.

functionality") removed the underlying SELinux runtime disable
functionality but left everything else intact and started logging an
error message to warn any residual users.
Prune it to just log an error message once and to return count
(i.e. all bytes written successfully) to avoid breaking
userspace. This also fixes a local DoS from logspam.

commit a7e4676e8e ("selinux: remove the 'checkreqprot'
functionality") removed the ability to modify the checkreqprot setting
but left everything except the updating of the checkreqprot value
intact. Aside from unnecessary processing, this could produce a local
DoS from log spam and incorrectly calls selinux_ima_measure_state() on
each write even though no state has changed. Prune it to just log an
error message once and return count (i.e. all bytes written
successfully) so that userspace never breaks.

Fix the order in sel_kill_sb() to match other pseudo filesystems.
This does not currently matter for selinuxfs per se but could

The per-task avdcache was incorrectly saving and reusing the
audited vector computed by avc_audit_required() rather than
recomputing based on the currently requested permissions and
distinguishing the denied versus allowed cases. As a result,
some permission checks were not being audited, e.g.
directory write checks after a previously cached directory
search check.

Move lsm_get_xattr_slot() below the SBLABEL_MNT check so we don't leave
a NULL-named slot in the array when returning -EOPNOTSUPP; filesystem
initxattrs() callbacks stop iterating at the first NULL ->name, silently
dropping xattrs installed by later LSMs.

SELinux socket state lives in the composite LSM socket blob.
sock_has_perm() and nlmsg_sock_has_extended_perms() currently
dereference sk->sk_security directly, which assumes the SELinux socket
blob is at offset zero.
In stacked configurations that assumption does not hold. If another LSM
allocates socket blob storage before SELinux, these helpers may read the
wrong blob and feed invalid SID and class values into AVC checks.
Use selinux_sock() instead of accessing sk->sk_security directly.

During early boot, the filesystem is read-only and any changes
to xattrs are not allowed. This fails in case of ext4 because

ima_get_hash_algo() only recognizes version 2 signatures when the xattr
type is EVM_IMA_XATTR_DIGSIG. Since sigv3 signatures also use
EVM_IMA_XATTR_DIGSIG as the xattr type, version 3 must be accepted as
well to correctly determine the hash algorithm.
Additionally, ima_validate_rule() does not include IMA_SIGV3_REQUIRED in
the allowed flags bitmask for MODULE_CHECK, KEXEC_KERNEL_CHECK, and
KEXEC_INITRAMFS_CHECK hook functions. As a result, policy rules with
"appraise_type=sigv3" are rejected for these functions.
Add version 3 to the accepted versions in ima_get_hash_algo() for
EVM_IMA_XATTR_DIGSIG, and add IMA_SIGV3_REQUIRED to the allowed flags
for MODULE_CHECK, KEXEC_KERNEL_CHECK, and KEXEC_INITRAMFS_CHECK in
ima_validate_rule().

aa_dfa_unpack returns ERR_PTR not NULL when it fails, but aa_put_dfa

In apparmor_path_rename(), when handling RENAME_EXCHANGE, the
cond_exchange structure is supposed to carry the attributes of the
*new* dentry (since it is used to authorize moving new_dentry to the
old location). However, line 412 reads:
vfsuid = i_uid_into_vfsuid(idmap, d_backing_inode(old_dentry));
This fetches the uid of old_dentry instead of new_dentry. As a result,
the RENAME_EXCHANGE permission check uses the wrong file owner, which
can allow a rename that should be denied (if old_dentry's owner has
more privileges) or deny one that should be allowed.
Note that cond_exchange.mode on the line above correctly uses
new_dentry. Only the uid lookup is wrong.
Fix by changing old_dentry to new_dentry in the i_uid_into_vfsuid call.

AppArmor dfas need a minimum of two states to be valid. State 0 is the
default trap state, and State 1 the default start state. When verifying
the dfa ensure that this is the case.

Replace sprintf() with sysfs_emit() in param_get_audit() and
param_get_mode(). sysfs_emit() is preferred for formatting sysfs output
because it provides safer bounds checking. Add terminating newlines as
suggested by checkpatch.

Kernel symbol flags:
- Replace the separate *_gpl symbol sections (__ksymtab_gpl and
__kcrctab_gpl) with a unified symbol table and a new
__kflagstab section. This section stores symbol flags, such as
the GPL-only flag, as an 8-bit bitset for each exported symbol.
This is a cleanup that simplifies symbol lookup in the module
loader by avoiding table fragmentation and will allow a cleaner
way to add more flags later if needed.
Module signature UAPI:
- Move struct module_signature to the UAPI headers to allow reuse
by tools outside the kernel proper, such as kmod and
scripts/sign-file. This also renames a few constants for clarity
and drops unused signature types as preparation for hash-based
module integrity checking work that's in progress.
Sysfs:
- Add a /sys/module/<module>/import_ns sysfs attribute to show
the symbol namespaces imported by loaded modules. This makes it
easier to verify driver API access at runtime on systems that
care about such things (e.g. Android).
Cleanups and fixes:
- Force sh_addr to 0 for all sections in module.lds. This prevents
non-zero section addresses when linking modules with ld.bfd -r,
which confused elfutils.
- Fix a memory leak of charp module parameters on module unload
when the kernel is configured with CONFIG_SYSFS=n.
- Override the -EEXIST error code returned by module_init() to
userspace. This prevents confusion with the errno reserved by
the module loader to indicate that a module is already loaded.
- Simplify the warning message and drop the stack dump on positive
returns from module_init().

synchronize parse_args() arguments with their implementation.

TOMOYO is treating numeric fields (including inode->i_ino) as "unsigned
long". Now that commit 0b2600f81c ("treewide: change inode->i_ino from
unsigned long to u64") went upstream, update affected portions in TOMOYO.
While an administrator might write a rule that compares inode->i_ino with
an immediate value, this patch changes type of variable for inode->i_ino
to "u64" but does not change type of variable for the corresponding
immediate value to "u64" due to the following reasons.
It is likely that rules that compare inode->i_ino are for testing whether
the directories involved in e.g. rename() operation are the same (i.e.
comparison between two inode->i_ino values rather than one inode->i_ino
value and one immediate value).
It unlikely makes sense to compare inode->i_ino with an immediate value
larger than UINT_MAX.

Like the algorithms migrated earlier (e.g. SHA-*), this simplifies
the implementations, improves performance, enables further
simplifications in calling code, and solves various other issues:

access controls on backing files in the stacked/overlayfs case. The
existing security_mmap_file() does not have visibility past the
user file. You can see from the associated SELinux hook callback
the code is fairly straightforward.
The mprotect() fix is a bit more complicated as there is no way in
the mprotect() code path to inspect both the user and backing
files, and bolting on a second file reference to vm_area_struct
wasn't really an option.
The solution taken here adds a LSM security blob and associated
hooks to the backing_file struct that LSMs can use to capture and
store relevant information from the user file. While the necessary
SELinux information is relatively small, a single u32, I expect
other LSMs to require more than that, and a dedicated backing_file
LSM blob provides a storage mechanism without negatively impacting
other filesystems.
I want to note that other LSMs beyond SELinux have been involved in
the discussion of the fixes presented here and they are working on
their own related changes using these new hooks, but due to other
issues those patches will be coming at a later date.

a number of filesystems to implement hacks to hash a 64-bit identifier
into a 32-bit field, and deprives us of a universal identifier field
for an inode.
This changes the inode->i_ino field from an unsigned long to a u64.
This shouldn't make any material difference on 64-bit hosts, but
32-bit hosts will see struct inode grow by at least 4 bytes. This
could have effects on slabcache sizes and field alignment.
The bulk of the changes are to format strings and tracepoints, since
the kernel itself doesn't care that much about the i_ino field. The
first patch changes some vfs function arguments, so check that one out
carefully.
With this change, we may be able to shrink some inode structures. For
instance, struct nfs_inode has a fileid field that holds the 64-bit
inode number. With this set of changes, that field could be
eliminated. I'd rather leave that sort of cleanups for later just to
keep this simple"

related interfaces were added which combine the locking and the
lookup.
At that time many callers were changed to use the new interfaces.
However there are still an assortment of places out side of the core
vfs where the directory is locked explictly, whether with inode_lock()
or lock_rename() or similar. These were missed in the first pass for
an assortment of uninteresting reasons.
This addresses the remaining places where explicit locking is used,
and changes them to use the new interfaces, or otherwise removes the
explicit locking.
The biggest changes are in overlayfs. The other changes are quite
