eb96c58907 can: j1939: transport: j1939_session_fresh_new(): initialize receive buffer
Zero the allocated buffer in j1939_session_fresh_new() to ensure it
contains no residual data.

While there is a potential performance impact if users allocate maximum
sized ETP buffers, most real-world use cases are not noticeably affected
since the maximum known buffer size is typically around 65K.

This refcount leak in j1939_priv might be caused by a refcount leak in
j1939_{session,ecu} because j1939_{session,ecu} holds a ref on j1939_priv.
For further investigation using upstream kernels, enable netdevice_tracker
in j1939_{priv,session,ecu} management.

e4e8af62ad can: j1939: fix lockless local-destination check
j1939_priv.ents[].nusers is documented as protected by priv->lock, and
its updates already happen under that lock. j1939_can_recv() also reads
it under read_lock_bh(). However, j1939_session_skb_queue() and
j1939_tp_send() still read priv->ents[da].nusers without taking the
lock.

Those transport-side checks decide whether to set J1939_ECU_LOCAL_DST, so
they can race with j1939_local_ecu_get() and j1939_local_ecu_put() while
userspace is binding or releasing sockets concurrently with TP traffic.
This can misclassify TP/ETP sessions as local or remote and take the wrong
transport path.

Fix both transport paths by routing the destination-locality check through
a helper that reads ents[].nusers under read_lock_bh(&priv->lock).

bf4afc53b7 Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

69050f8d6d treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

5a9229dbb4 can: move ifindex to CAN skb extensions
When routing CAN frames over different CAN interfaces the interface index
skb->iif is overwritten with every single hop. To prevent sending a CAN
frame back to its originating (first) incoming CAN interface another
ifindex variable is needed, which was stored in can_skb_priv::ifindex.

Move the can_skb_priv::ifindex content to can_skb_ext::can_iif.

96ea3a1e2d can: add CAN skb extension infrastructure
To remove the private CAN bus skb headroom infrastructure 8 bytes need to
be stored in the skb. The skb extensions are a common pattern and an easy
and efficient way to hold private data travelling along with the skb. We
only need the skb_ext_add() and skb_ext_find() functions to allocate and
access CAN specific content as the skb helpers to copy/clone/free skbs
automatically take care of skb extensions and their final removal.

This patch introduces the complete CAN skb extensions infrastructure:
- add struct can_skb_ext in new file include/net/can.h
- add include/net/can.h in MAINTAINERS
- add SKB_EXT_CAN to skbuff.c and skbuff.h
- select SKB_EXTENSIONS in Kconfig when CONFIG_CAN is enabled
- check for existing CAN skb extensions in can_rcv() in af_can.c
- add CAN skb extensions allocation at every skb_alloc() location
- duplicate the skb extensions if cloning outgoing skbs (framelen/gw_hops)
- introduce can_skb_ext_add() and can_skb_ext_find() helpers

The patch also corrects an indention issue in the original code from 2018:

d4fb6514ff can: use skb hash instead of private variable in headroom
The can_skb_priv::skbcnt variable is used to identify CAN skbs in the RX

skb->hash and set skb->sw_hash accordingly. The skb->hash is a value used

46cea215dc can: j1939: make j1939_sk_bind() fail if device is no longer registered
There is a theoretical race window in j1939_sk_netdev_event_unregister()
where two j1939_sk_bind() calls jump in between read_unlock_bh() and
lock_sock().

The assumption jsk->priv == priv can fail if the first j1939_sk_bind()
call once made jsk->priv == NULL due to failed j1939_local_ecu_get() call
and the second j1939_sk_bind() call again made jsk->priv != NULL due to
successful j1939_local_ecu_get() call.

Since the socket lock is held by both j1939_sk_netdev_event_unregister()
and j1939_sk_bind(), checking ndev->reg_state with the socket lock held can
reliably make the second j1939_sk_bind() call fail (and close this race
window).

93a27b5891 can: j1939: add missing calls in NETDEV_UNREGISTER notification handler
Currently NETDEV_UNREGISTER event handler is not calling
j1939_cancel_active_session() and j1939_sk_queue_drop_all().
This will result in these calls being skipped when j1939_sk_release() is
called. And I guess that the reason syzbot is still reporting

  unregister_netdevice: waiting for vcan0 to become free. Usage count = 2

is caused by lack of these calls.

Calling j1939_cancel_active_session(priv, sk) from j1939_sk_release() can
be covered by calling j1939_cancel_active_session(priv, NULL) from
j1939_netdev_notify().

Calling j1939_sk_queue_drop_all() from j1939_sk_release() can be covered
by calling j1939_sk_netdev_event_netdown() from j1939_netdev_notify().

Therefore, we can reuse j1939_cancel_active_session(priv, NULL) and
j1939_sk_netdev_event_netdown(priv) for NETDEV_UNREGISTER event handler.

is called via j1939_sk_release()). Otherwise, the extra ref on "struct
j1939_priv" held by j1939_sk_bind() call prevents "struct net_device" from
dropping the usage count to 1; making it impossible for
unregister_netdevice() to continue.

Replace hrtimer_init() and the open coded initialization of

Most of this patch is generated by Coccinelle. Except for the TX thrtimer

is never set. For this particular case, set the callback to

44de577e61 can: j1939: j1939_sk_send_loop(): fix unable to send messages with data length zero
The J1939 standard requires the transmission of messages of length 0.

For example proprietary messages are specified with a data length of 0
to 1785. The transmission of such messages is not possible. Sending
results in no error being returned but no corresponding can frame
being generated.

Enable the transmission of zero length J1939 messages. In order to
facilitate this two changes are necessary:

1) If the transmission of a new message is requested from user space
the message is segmented in j1939_sk_send_loop(). Let the segmentation
take into account zero length messages, do not terminate immediately,
queue the corresponding skb.

2) j1939_session_skb_get_by_offset() selects the next skb to transmit
for a session. Take into account that there might be zero length skbs
in the queue.

d3e2904f71 net: can: j1939: enhanced error handling for tightly received RTS messages in xtp_rx_rts_session_new
This patch enhances error handling in scenarios with RTS (Request to

backtraces with a new error handling method. This provides clearer error
messages and allows for the early termination of problematic sessions.
Previously, sessions were only released at the end of j1939_xtp_rx_rts().

Potentially this could be reproduced with something like:

6cdedc18ba can: j1939: prevent deadlock by changing j1939_socks_lock to rwlock
The following 3 locks would race against each other, causing the
deadlock situation in the Syzbot bug report:

- j1939_socks_lock
- active_session_list_lock
- sk_session_queue_lock

A reasonable fix is to change j1939_socks_lock to an rwlock, since in
the rare situations where a write lock is required for the linked list
that j1939_socks_lock is protecting, the code does not attempt to
acquire any more locks. This would break the circular lock dependency,
where, for example, the current thread already locks j1939_socks_lock
and attempts to acquire sk_session_queue_lock, and at the same time,
another thread attempts to acquire j1939_socks_lock while holding
sk_session_queue_lock.

reported by Syzbot; instead, it solves a deadlock situation to prepare
for one or more further patches to actually fix the Syzbot bug, which
appears to be a reference counting problem within the j1939 codebase.

that a concurrent thread cannot process j1939_priv before

cd9c790de2 can: j1939: change j1939_netdev_lock type to mutex
It turns out access to j1939_can_rx_register() needs to be serialized,
otherwise j1939_priv can be corrupted when parallel threads call
j1939_netdev_start() and j1939_can_rx_register() fails. This issue is
thoroughly covered in other commit which serializes access to
j1939_can_rx_register().

Change j1939_netdev_lock type to mutex so that we do not need to remove
GFP_KERNEL from can_rx_register().

j1939_netdev_lock seems to be used in normal contexts where mutex usage
is not prohibited.

2a84aea80e can: j1939: j1939_sk_send_loop_abort(): improved error queue handling in J1939 Socket
This patch addresses an issue within the j1939_sk_send_loop_abort()
function in the j1939/socket.c file, specifically in the context of
Transport Protocol (TP) sessions.

Without this patch, when a TP session is initiated and a Clear To Send
(CTS) frame is received from the remote side requesting one data packet,
the kernel dispatches the first Data Transport (DT) frame and then waits
for the next CTS. If the remote side doesn't respond with another CTS,
the kernel aborts due to a timeout. This leads to the user-space
receiving an EPOLLERR on the socket, and the socket becomes active.

However, when trying to read the error queue from the socket with
sock.recvmsg(, , socket.MSG_ERRQUEUE), it returns -EAGAIN,
given that the socket is non-blocking. This situation results in an
infinite loop: the user-space repeatedly calls epoll(), epoll() returns
the socket file descriptor with EPOLLERR, but the socket then blocks on
the recv() of ERRQUEUE.

This patch introduces an additional check for the J1939_SOCK_ERRQUEUE
flag within the j1939_sk_send_loop_abort() function. If the flag is set,
it indicates that the application has subscribed to receive error queue
messages. In such cases, the kernel can communicate the current transfer
state via the error queue. This allows for the function to return early,
preventing the unnecessary setting of the socket into an error state,
and breaking the infinite loop. It is crucial to note that a socket
error is only needed if the application isn't using the error queue, as,
without it, the application wouldn't be aware of transfer issues.

b45193cb4d can: j1939: j1939_tp_tx_dat_new(): fix out-of-bounds memory access
In the j1939_tp_tx_dat_new() function, an out-of-bounds memory access
could occur during the memcpy() operation if the size of skb->cb is
larger than the size of struct j1939_sk_buff_cb. This is because the
memcpy() operation uses the size of skb->cb, leading to a read beyond
the struct j1939_sk_buff_cb.

Updated the memcpy() operation to use the size of struct
j1939_sk_buff_cb instead of the size of skb->cb. This ensures that the
memcpy() operation only reads the memory within the bounds of struct
j1939_sk_buff_cb, preventing out-of-bounds memory access.

Additionally, add a BUILD_BUG_ON() to check that the size of skb->cb
is greater than or equal to the size of struct j1939_sk_buff_cb. This
ensures that the skb->cb buffer is large enough to hold the
j1939_sk_buff_cb structure.

d1366b283d can: j1939: prevent deadlock by moving j1939_sk_errqueue()
This commit addresses a deadlock situation that can occur in certain
scenarios, such as when running data TP/ETP transfer and subscribing to
the error queue while receiving a net down event. The deadlock involves
locks in the following order:

3
  j1939_session_list_lock ->  active_session_list_lock
  j1939_session_activate
  ...
  j1939_sk_queue_activate_next -> sk_session_queue_lock
  ...
  j1939_xtp_rx_eoma_one

2
  j1939_sk_queue_drop_all  ->  sk_session_queue_lock
  ...
  j1939_sk_netdev_event_netdown -> j1939_socks_lock
  j1939_netdev_notify

1
  j1939_sk_errqueue -> j1939_socks_lock
  __j1939_session_cancel -> active_session_list_lock
  j1939_tp_rxtimer

       CPU0                    CPU1
       ----                    ----
  lock(&priv->active_session_list_lock);
                               lock(&jsk->sk_session_queue_lock);
                               lock(&priv->active_session_list_lock);
  lock(&priv->j1939_socks_lock);

The solution implemented in this commit is to move the
j1939_sk_errqueue() call out of the active_session_list_lock context,
thus preventing the deadlock situation.

4ae5e1e97c can: j1939: do not wait 250 ms if the same addr was already claimed
The ISO 11783-5 standard, in "4.5.2 - Address claim requirements", states:
  d) No CF shall begin, or resume, transmission on the network until 250
     ms after it has successfully claimed an address except when
     responding to a request for address-claimed.

But "Figure 6" and "Figure 7" in "4.5.4.2 - Address-claim
prioritization" show that the CF begins the transmission after 250 ms
from the first AC (address-claimed) message even if it sends another AC
message during that time window to resolve the address contention with
another CF.

As stated in "4.4.2.3 - Address-claimed message":
  In order to successfully claim an address, the CF sending an address
  claimed message shall not receive a contending claim from another CF
  for at least 250 ms.

As stated in "4.4.3.2 - NAME management (NM) message":
  1) A commanding CF can
     d) request that a CF with a specified NAME transmit the address-
        claimed message with its current NAME.
  2) A target CF shall
     d) send an address-claimed message in response to a request for a
        matching NAME

Taking the above arguments into account, the 250 ms wait is requested
only during network initialization.

Do not restart the timer on AC message if both the NAME and the address
match and so if the address has already been claimed (timer has expired)
or the AC message has been sent to resolve the contention with another
CF (timer is still running).

96a7457a14 can: skb: unify skb CAN frame identification helpers
Replace open coded checks for sk_buffs containing Classical CAN and
CAN FD frame structures as a preparation for CAN XL support.

With the added length check the unintended processing of CAN XL frames
having the CANXL_XLF bit set can be suppressed even when the skb->len
fits to non CAN XL frames.

The CAN_RAW socket needs a rework to use these helpers. Therefore the
use of these helpers is postponed to the CAN_RAW CAN XL integration.

The J1939 protocol gets a check for Classical CAN frames too.
