Commit c191b319f2 ("dpll: allow registering FW-identified pin with a
different DPLL") relaxed dpll_pin_register() to let fwnode-identified pins
register with DPLLs from a different driver. This allows, for example, the
ICE driver to register a zl3073x-created pin with its TXC DPLL using
ice_dpll_txclk_ops, which lack frequency_get and phase_adjust_get
callbacks.
After such cross-driver registration, the pin's dpll_refs xarray contains
refs from both drivers. dpll_cmd_pin_get_one() calls
dpll_xa_ref_dpll_first() which returns the ref with the lowest DPLL id.
When the foreign DPLL (e.g. ICE TXC) has a lower id than the owner DPLL
(e.g. zl3073x), the foreign ops are used for reporting. Since those ops
lack callbacks like frequency_get, pin-level attributes are silently
omitted from the netlink response.
For example, a zl3073x output pin that should report frequency and
phase-adjust shows neither:
Before:
# dpll pin show id 45

Fix this by:
1. Adding dpll_pin_own_dpll_ref_first() helper that returns the first ref
whose DPLL matches the pin's (module, clock_id) tuple -- i.e. the DPLL
from the driver that created the pin and has the complete set of ops.
Return NULL if no owner ref is found.
2. Using dpll_pin_own_dpll_ref_first() in dpll_cmd_pin_get_one() with a
fallback to dpll_xa_ref_dpll_first() for pin-on-pin child pins whose
dpll_refs all point to a different driver's DPLLs.
3. Using dpll_pin_own_dpll_ref_first() in SET operations
(dpll_pin_freq_set, dpll_pin_esync_set, dpll_pin_ref_sync_state_set,
dpll_pin_phase_adj_set) returning -ENODEV if no owner ref exists.
Replacing the validation loops that rejected the entire operation when
any ref's ops lacked the required callback -- instead validate only the
owner refs so that foreign DPLLs with incomplete ops no longer block
SET operations.
4. Guarding all SET and rollback xa_for_each loops against NULL set
callbacks so that foreign refs without the operation are safely skipped
instead of causing a NULL pointer dereference.

Extend the DPLL pin notification API to include a source identifier
indicating where the notification originates. This allows notifier
consumers to distinguish between notifications coming from
an associated DPLL instance, a parent pin, or the pin itself.
A new field, src_clock_id, is added to struct dpll_pin_notifier_info
and is passed through all pin-related notification paths. Callers of
dpll_pin_notify() are updated to provide a meaningful source identifier
based on their context:
- pin registration/unregistration uses the DPLL's clock_id,
- pin-on-pin operations use the parent pin's clock_id,
- pin changes use the pin's own clock_id.
As introduced in the commit ("dpll: allow registering FW-identified pin
with a different DPLL"), it is possible to share the same physical pin
via firmware description (fwnode) with DPLL objects from different
kernel modules. This means that a given pin can be registered multiple
times.
Driver such as ICE (E825 devices) rely on this mechanism when listening
for the event where a shared-fwnode pin appears, while avoiding reacting
to events triggered by their own registration logic.
This change only extends the notification metadata and does not alter
existing semantics for drivers that do not use the new field.

__dpll_pin_register() emits dpll_pin_create_ntf() internally, but

__dpll_pin_unregister() wiped the global sync-pair state on every

The rollback path in dpll_pin_on_pin_register() called
__dpll_pin_unregister() before dpll_pin_delete_ntf(). When the

Neither parent->dpll_refs nor pin->dpll_refs on its own is a correct
iteration target at unregister time:
- pin->dpll_refs includes DPLLs the child was registered against
via a different parent or directly; blind unregister WARNs on
the cookie miss in dpll_xa_ref_pin_del().
- parent->dpll_refs reflects the parent's current attachments, not
those at child-register time. Another driver may have (un)reg'd
the parent against additional DPLLs in the meantime, so we miss
registrations that exist and visit DPLLs that have none.
Walk pin->dpll_refs and use dpll_pin_registration_find() to filter
to entries whose cookie is this parent. Symmetric with

Relax the (module, clock_id) equality requirement when registering a
pin identified by firmware (pin->fwnode). Some platforms associate a
FW-described pin with a DPLL instance that differs from the pin's
(module, clock_id) tuple. For such pins, permit registration without
requiring the strict match. Non-FW pins still require equality.
Keep netlink pin module reporting/filtering safe for this relaxed
registration model by caching the module name in the pin object at
allocation time and using the cached string in netlink paths.
This avoids dereferencing pin->module after provider module teardown.

DPLL_FFO_PIN_DEVICE for the pin vs parent DPLL offset reported

Add a supported_ffo bitmask to struct dpll_pin_ops so drivers

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate

Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)

Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)

Add support for the REF_TRACKER infrastructure to the DPLL subsystem.
When enabled, this allows developers to track and debug reference counting
leaks or imbalances for dpll_device and dpll_pin objects. It records stack
traces for every get/put operation and exposes this information via
debugfs at:
/sys/kernel/debug/ref_tracker/dpll_device_*
/sys/kernel/debug/ref_tracker/dpll_pin_*
The following API changes are made to support this:
1. dpll_device_get() / dpll_device_put() now accept a 'dpll_tracker *'
(which is a typedef to 'struct ref_tracker *' when enabled, or an empty
struct otherwise).
2. dpll_pin_get() / dpll_pin_put() and fwnode_dpll_pin_find() similarly
accept the tracker argument.
3. Internal registration structures now hold a tracker to associate the
reference held by the registration with the specific owner.
All existing in-tree drivers (ice, mlx5, ptp_ocp, zl3073x) are updated
to pass NULL for the new tracker argument, maintaining current behavior
while enabling future debugging capabilities.

Refactor the reference counting mechanism for DPLL devices and pins to
improve consistency and prevent potential lifetime issues.
Introduce internal helpers __dpll_{device,pin}_{hold,put}() to
centralize reference management.
Update the internal XArray reference helpers (dpll_xa_ref_*) to
automatically grab a reference to the target object when it is added to
a list, and release it when removed. This ensures that objects linked
internally (e.g., pins referenced by parent pins) are properly kept
alive without relying on the caller to manually manage the count.
Consequently, remove the now redundant manual `refcount_inc/dec` calls
in dpll_pin_on_pin_{,un}register()`, as ownership is now correctly handled
by the dpll_xa_ref_* functions.
Additionally, ensure that dpll_device_{,un}register()` takes/releases
a reference to the device, ensuring the device object remains valid for
the duration of its registration.

Allow drivers to register DPLL pins without manually specifying a pin
index.
Currently, drivers must provide a unique pin index when calling
dpll_pin_get(). This works well for hardware-mapped pins but creates
friction for drivers handling virtual pins or those without a strict
hardware indexing scheme.
Introduce DPLL_PIN_IDX_UNSPEC (U32_MAX). When a driver passes this
value as the pin index:
1. The core allocates a unique index using an IDA
2. The allocated index is mapped to a range starting above `INT_MAX`
This separation ensures that dynamically allocated indices never collide
with standard driver-provided hardware indices, which are assumed to be
within the `0` to `INT_MAX` range. The index is automatically freed when
the pin is released in dpll_pin_put().

Currently, the DPLL subsystem reports events (creation, deletion, changes)
to userspace via Netlink. However, there is no mechanism for other kernel
components to be notified of these events directly.
Add a raw notifier chain to the DPLL core protected by dpll_lock. This
allows other kernel subsystems or drivers to register callbacks and
receive notifications when DPLL devices or pins are created, deleted,
or modified.
Define the following:
- Registration helpers: {,un}register_dpll_notifier()
- Event types: DPLL_DEVICE_CREATED, DPLL_PIN_CREATED, etc.
- Context structures: dpll_{device,pin}_notifier_info to pass relevant
data to the listeners.
The notification chain is invoked alongside the existing Netlink event
generation to ensure in-kernel listeners are kept in sync with the
subsystem state.

Modify the internal registration helpers dpll_xa_ref_{dpll,pin}_add()
to reject duplicate registration attempts.
Previously, if a caller attempted to register the same pin multiple
times (with the same ops, priv, and cookie) on the same device, the core
silently increments the reference count and return success. This behavior
is incorrect because if the caller makes these duplicate registrations
then for the first one dpll_pin_registration is allocated and for others
the associated dpll_pin_ref.refcount is incremented. During the first
unregistration the associated dpll_pin_registration is freed and for
others WARN is fired.
Fix this by updating the logic to return `-EEXIST` if a matching

WARNING: CPU: 5 PID: 2212 at drivers/dpll/dpll_core.c:143 dpll_xa_ref_pin_del.isra.0+0x21e/0x230
WARNING: CPU: 5 PID: 2212 at drivers/dpll/dpll_core.c:223 __dpll_pin_unregister+0x2b3/0x2c0
The problem is, that in both dpll_xa_ref_dpll_del() and
dpll_xa_ref_pin_del() registration is only removed from list in case the
reference count drops to zero. That is wrong, the registration has to
be removed always.
To fix this, remove the registration from the list and free
it unconditionally, instead of doing it only when the ref reference
counter reaches zero.

Older versions of GCC really want to know the full definition
of the type involved in rcu_assign_pointer().
struct dpll_pin is defined in a local header, net/core can't
reach it. Move all the netdev <> dpll code into dpll, where
the type is known. Otherwise we'd need multiple function calls
to jump between the compilation units.
This is the same problem the commit under fixes was trying to address,
but with rcu_assign_pointer() not rcu_dereference().
Some of the exports are not needed, networking core can't
be a module, we only need exports for the helpers used by
drivers.

Tasmiya reports that their compiler complains that we deref
a pointer to unknown type with rcu_dereference_rtnl():
include/linux/rcupdate.h:439:9: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type ‘struct dpll_pin’
Unclear what compiler it is, at the moment, and we can't report
but since DPLL can't be a module - move the code from the header
into the source file.

This fixes a possible UAF in if_nlmsg_size(),

Add rcu protection to "struct dpll_pin"
Move netdev_dpll_pin() from netdevice.h to dpll.h to

Note: This looks possible to no longer acquire RTNL in
netdev_dpll_pin_assign() later in net-next.

In case of multiple kernel module instances using the same dpll device:
if only one registers dpll device, then only that one can register
directly connected pins with a dpll device. When unregistered parent is
responsible for determining if the muxed pin can be registered with it
or not, the drivers need to be loaded in serialized order to work
correctly - first the driver instance which registers the direct pins
needs to be loaded, then the other instances could register muxed type
pins.
Allow registration of a pin with a parent even if the parent was not
yet registered, thus allow ability for unserialized driver instance
load order.
Do not WARN_ON notification for unregistered pin, which can be invoked
for described case, instead just return error.

When a kernel module is unbound but the pin resources were not entirely
freed (other kernel module instance of the same PCI device have had kept
the reference to that pin), and kernel module is again bound, the pin
properties would not be updated (the properties are only assigned when
memory for the pin is allocated), prop pointer still points to the
kernel module memory of the kernel module which was deallocated on the
unbind.
If the pin dump is invoked in this state, the result is a kernel crash.
Prevent the crash by storing persistent pin properties in dpll subsystem,
copy the content from the kernel module when pin is allocated, instead of
using memory of the kernel module.
