b6ea9680f8 riscv: mm: Make mark_new_valid_map() stuff depend on 64BIT && MMU
None of the code relating to mark_new_valid_map() does anything useful
without CONFIG_64BIT=y && CONFIG_MMU=y, because the
new_valid_map_cpus_check code is only used if CONFIG_64BIT, and the
exception codes checked there can only happen with CONFIG_MMU=y.

Therefore, make these conditional on CONFIG_64BIT=y && CONFIG_MMU=y to
simplify programming, since we do not have to handle CONFIG_MMU=n when
changing this code in the future. This also removes some unused code on
the entry path for CONFIG_MMU=n.

 Patchsets in this merge:

 - The 2 patch series "selftests/mm: clean up build output and verbosity"
from Li Wang removes some noise from the MM selftests build out.

 - The 3 patch series "mm: Free contiguous order-0 pages efficiently"
from Ryan Roberts speeds up the freeing of a batch of 0-order pages by
first scanning them for coalescing opportunities. This is applicable to
vfree() and to the releasing of frozen pages.

 - The 11 patch series "mm/damon: introduce DAMOS failed region quota
charge ratio" from SeongJae Park addresses a DAMOS usability issue: The
DAMOS quota often exhausts prematurely because it charges for all memory
attempted, causing slow and inconsistent performance when actions fail
   on unreclaimable memory.

To fix this, a new feature lets users set a smaller, flexible quota
charge ratio (via a numerator and denominator) for failed regions.
Since failed actions cause less overhead, reducing their quota cost
ensures more predictable and efficient DAMOS processing

 - The 8 patch series "selftests/cgroup: improve zswap tests robustness
and support large page sizes" from Li Wang fixes various spurious
failures and improves the overall robustness of the cgroup zswap
   selftests.

initialization" from Muchun Song fixes several bugs in the vmemmap
optimization, mainly around incorrect page accounting and memmap
initialization in the DAX and memory hotplug paths. It also fixes
pageblock migratetype initialization and struct page initialization for
   ZONE_DEVICE compound pages.

page-tables" from Muhammad Usama Anjum simplifies and speeds up kasan by
removing its ineffective tagging of stacks and page tables.

 - The 7 patch series "mm/damon/reclaim,lru_sort: monitor all system rams
by default" from SeongJae Park simplifies deployment on diverse hardware
like NUMA systems by updating DAMON_RECLAIM and DAMON_LRU_SORT to
automatically monitor the physical address range covering all System RAM
areas by default, replacing the overly restrictive behavior that only
targeted the single largest memory block to save on negligible overhead.

 - The 2 patch series "mm/damon/sysfs: document filters/ directory as
deprecated" from SeongJae Park updates some DAMON docs.

metadata management, hence dropping the static array and map, and
   improves performance.

 - The 28 patch series "mm/damon: introduce data attributes monitoring"
from SeongJae Park extends DAMON for monitoring general data attributes
   other than accesses.

from Usama Arif improves large-folio readahead on systems like 64K-page
arm64 by preventing the mmap_miss check from permanently disabling
target-oriented VM_EXEC readahead, and by generalizing the
force_thp_readahead gate to support mappings with any usefully large
maximum folio order under the cache cap.

vmemmap_set_pmd() and vmemmap_check_pmd()" from Muchun Song provides
generic versions of these two functions so the four arch-specific
   implementations can be removed.

f32a375ecc RISC-V updates for v7.2
- Prevent get_free_mem_region() from returning regions that are
unmappable in certain circumstances by defining
   DIRECT_MAP_PHYSMEM_END for RISC-V

 - Fix an early boot problem with kexec_file when the amount of
installed physical memory installed on the system exceeds the direct
map size, which is possible in certain RISC-V virtual memory modes

 - Unconditionally sfence.vma in the new vmalloc area handling code in
the page fault handler, since even the presence of Svvptc doesn't
guarantee that the CPU won't immediately fault again after the
exception handler completes and subsequently crash

 - Fix ftrace_graph_ret_addr() to use the correct task pointer
(aligning with what other architectures do)

 - Fix the misaligned access performance checking code in cases when
performance is specified on the kernel command line and when CPUs
have been brought offline and back online

 - Get rid of a bogus address offset in the non-frame-pointer version
of walk_stackframe(), aligning it with the frame pointer-based code

 - Fix a RISC-V kfence issue causing bogus use-after-free warnings

 - Add ARCH_HAS_CC_CAN_LINK for RISC-V, which needs different compiler
command line flags than other architectures

 - Implement _THIS_IP_ using RISC-V-specific assembly, which seems to
be less brittle (from a compiler point of view) than taking the
   address of a label

 - Reduce kernel startup overhead by defining
HAVE_BUILDTIME_MCOUNT_SORT, since arch/riscv meets all the
   requirements

 - Patch the CFI vDSO during alternatives processing, not only the
   standard vDSO

 - Fix a potential memory leak in the cacheinfo code

 - Clean up kernel/setup.c:add_resource() to pass along the return
value from insert_resource() and to improve the display of
   resource ranges

 - Clean up our purgatory.[ch] by aligning our purgatory() prototype
to what's in arch/x86, and by cleaning up verify_sha256_digest()

 - Clean up cpu_is_stopped() to align its function a little more
   closely to its name

 - Replace some unbounded string function usage in get_early_cmdline()
and the ptdump code with strscpy()

 - Replace sprintf() with sysfs_emit() in cpu_show_ghostwrite() for
   safer bounds checking

 - Standardize how compiler output flags are specified in the RISC-V
kselftests, aligning them with what other architectures do

 - Use the Linux-generic cmp_int() macro in place of an open-coded
   "cmp_3way()" macro in kernel/module-sections.c

 - Panic early in boot if IRQ handler stacks can't be allocated rather
   than pretending to continue normally

 - Add support for Eswin SoCs in the RISC-V defconfig

 - Remove some unnecessary conditionals in sbi_hsm_hart_{start,stop}()

 - Clean up some Kconfig infelicities found by Kconfirm

 - Replace an open-coded version of min() in the kexec_elf code with
   the standard min() function

 - Fix ftrace_graph_ret_addr() to use the correct task pointer (aligning
   with what other architectures do)

 - Fix the misaligned access performance checking code in cases when
performance is specified on the kernel command line and when CPUs
have been brought offline and back online

 - Get rid of a bogus address offset in the non-frame-pointer version of
walk_stackframe(), aligning it with the frame pointer-based code

 - Fix a RISC-V kfence issue causing bogus use-after-free warnings

 - Add ARCH_HAS_CC_CAN_LINK for RISC-V, which needs different compiler
command line flags than other architectures

 - Implement _THIS_IP_ using RISC-V-specific assembly, which seems to be
less brittle (from a compiler point of view) than taking the address
   of a label

 - Reduce kernel startup overhead by defining
HAVE_BUILDTIME_MCOUNT_SORT, since arch/riscv meets all the
   requirements

 - Patch the CFI vDSO during alternatives processing, not only the
   standard vDSO

 - Fix a potential memory leak in the cacheinfo code

 - Clean up kernel/setup.c:add_resource() to pass along the return value
from insert_resource() and to improve the display of resource ranges

 - Clean up our purgatory.[ch] by aligning our purgatory() prototype to
what's in arch/x86, and by cleaning up verify_sha256_digest()

 - Clean up cpu_is_stopped() to align its function a little more closely
   to its name

 - Replace some unbounded string function usage in get_early_cmdline()
and the ptdump code with strscpy()

 - Replace sprintf() with sysfs_emit() in cpu_show_ghostwrite() for
   safer bounds checking

 - Standardize how compiler output flags are specified in the RISC-V
kselftests, aligning them with what other architectures do

 - Use the Linux-generic cmp_int() macro in place of an open-coded
   "cmp_3way()" macro in kernel/module-sections.c

 - Panic early in boot if IRQ handler stacks can't be allocated rather
   than pretending to continue normally

 - Add support for Eswin SoCs in the RISC-V defconfig

 - Remove some unnecessary conditionals in sbi_hsm_hart_{start,stop}()

 - Clean up some Kconfig infelicities found by Kconfirm

 - Replace an open-coded version of min() in the kexec_elf code with
   the standard min() function

3bbc54dd1b mm/sparse-vmemmap: pass @pgmap argument to memory deactivation paths
Currently, the memory hot-remove call chain -- arch_remove_memory(),
__remove_pages(), sparse_remove_section() and section_deactivate() -- does
not carry the struct dev_pagemap pointer. This prevents the lower levels
from knowing whether the section was originally populated with vmemmap
optimizations (e.g., DAX with vmemmap optimization enabled).

Without this information, we cannot call vmemmap_can_optimize() to
determine if the vmemmap pages were optimized. As a result, the vmemmap
page accounting during teardown will mistakenly assume a non-optimized
allocation, leading to incorrect memmap statistics.

To lay the groundwork for fixing the vmemmap page accounting, we need to
pass the @pgmap pointer down to the deactivation location. Plumb the
@pgmap argument through the APIs of arch_remove_memory(), __remove_pages()
and sparse_remove_section(), mirroring the corresponding *_activate()
paths.

Pull RISC-V updates from Paul Walmsley:
"There is one significant change outside arch/riscv in this pull
request: the addition of a set of KUnit tests for strlen(), strnlen(),
  and strrchr().

Otherwise, the most notable changes are to add some RISC-V-specific
string function implementations, to remove XIP kernel support, to add
hardware error exception handling, and to optimize our runtime
  unaligned access speed testing.

A few comments on the motivation for removing XIP support. It's been
broken in the RISC-V kernel for months. The code is not easy to
maintain. Furthermore, for XIP support to truly be useful for RISC-V,
we think that compile-time feature switches would need to be added for
many of the RISC-V ISA features and microarchitectural properties that
are currently implemented with runtime patching. No one has stepped
forward to take responsibility for that work, so many of us think it's
best to remove it until clear use cases and champions emerge.

  Summary:

   - Add Kunit correctness testing and microbenchmarks for strlen(),
     strnlen(), and strrchr()

   - Add RISC-V-specific strnlen(), strchr(), strrchr() implementations

   - Add hardware error exception handling

   - Enable HAVE_IOREMAP_PROT to be able to use generic_access_phys()

a62ca3f40f mm: change to return bool for ptep_test_and_clear_young()
Patch series "change young flag check functions to return bool", v2.

This is a cleanup patchset to change all young flag check functions to
return bool, as discussed with David in the previous thread[1]. Since
callers only care about whether the young flag was set, returning bool
makes the intention clearer. No functional changes intended.

This patch (of 6):

Callers use ptep_test_and_clear_young() to clear the young flag and check
whether it was set. Change the return type to bool to make the intention
clearer.

6215d9f447 arch, mm: consolidate empty_zero_page
Reduce 22 declarations of empty_zero_page to 3 and 23 declarations of
ZERO_PAGE() to 4.

Every architecture defines empty_zero_page that way or another, but for the
most of them it is always a page aligned page in BSS and most definitions
of ZERO_PAGE do virt_to_page(empty_zero_page).

Move Linus vetted x86 definition of empty_zero_page and ZERO_PAGE() to the
core MM and drop these definitions in architectures that do not implement
colored zero page (MIPS and s390).

ZERO_PAGE() remains a macro because turning it to a wrapper for a static
inline causes severe pain in header dependencies.

For the most part the change is mechanical, with these being noteworthy:

* alpha: aliased empty_zero_page with ZERO_PGE that was also used for boot
parameters. Switching to a generic empty_zero_page removes the aliasing
and keeps ZERO_PGE for boot parameters only
* arm64: uses __pa_symbol() in ZERO_PAGE() so that definition of
  ZERO_PAGE() is kept intact.
* m68k/parisc/um: allocated empty_zero_page from memblock,
although they do not support zero page coloring and having it in BSS
  will work fine.
* sparc64 can have empty_zero_page in BSS rather allocate it, but it
can't use virt_to_page() for BSS. Keep it's definition of ZERO_PAGE()
but instead of allocating it, make mem_map_zero point to
  empty_zero_page.
* sh: used empty_zero_page for boot parameters at the very early boot.
Rename the parameters page to boot_params_page and let sh use the generic
  empty_zero_page.
* hexagon: had an amusing comment about empty_zero_page

/* A handy thing to have if one has the RAM. Declared in head.S */

that unfortunately had to go :)

9b3a2be848 riscv: Remove support for XIP kernel
XIP has a history of being broken for long periods of time. In 2023, it was
broken for 18 months before getting fixed [1]. In 2024 it was 4 months [2].

And now it is broken again since commit a44fb57221 ("riscv: Add runtime
constant support"), 10 months ago.

These are clear signs that XIP feature is not being used.

I occasionally looked after XIP, but mostly because I was bored and had
nothing better to do.

Remove XIP support. Revert is possible if someone shows up complaining.

 - Fix return value for memory reads from and writes to in-kernel devices.

 - Add support for detecting preemption from within a guest.

 - Add KVM steal time test case to tools/selftests.

 ARM:

 - Add support for FEAT_IDST, allowing ID registers that are not
implemented to be reported as a normal trap rather than as an UNDEF
   exception.

 - Add sanitisation of the VTCR_EL2 register, fixing a number of
   UXN/PXN/XN bugs in the process.

 - Full handling of RESx bits, instead of only RES0, and resulting in
SCTLR_EL2 being added to the list of sanitised registers.

 - More pKVM fixes for features that are not supposed to be exposed to
   guests.

 - Make sure that MTE being disabled on the pKVM host doesn't give it
the ability to attack the hypervisor.

 - Allow pKVM's host stage-2 mappings to use the Force Write Back
version of the memory attributes by using the "pass-through'
   encoding.

 - Fix trapping of ICC_DIR_EL1 on GICv5 hosts emulating GICv3 for the
   guest.

 - Preliminary work for guest GICv5 support.

 - A bunch of debugfs fixes, removing pointless custom iterators stored
   in guest data structures.

 - A small set of FPSIMD cleanups.

 - Selftest fixes addressing the incorrect alignment of page
   allocation.

 - Other assorted low-impact fixes and spelling fixes.

 RISC-V:

 - Fixes for issues discoverd by KVM API fuzzing in
   kvm_riscv_aia_imsic_has_attr(), kvm_riscv_aia_imsic_rw_attr(),
   and kvm_riscv_vcpu_aia_imsic_update()

 - Allow Zalasr, Zilsd and Zclsd extensions for Guest/VM

 - Transparent huge page support for hypervisor page tables

 - Adjust the number of available guest irq files based on MMIO
register sizes found in the device tree or the ACPI tables

 - Add RISC-V specific paging modes to KVM selftests

 - Detect paging mode at runtime for selftests

 s390:

 - Performance improvement for vSIE (aka nested virtualization)

 - Completely new memory management. s390 was a special snowflake that enlisted
help from the architecture's page table management to build hypervisor
page tables, in particular enabling sharing the last level of page
tables. This however was a lot of code (~3K lines) in order to support
KVM, and also blocked several features. The biggest advantages is
that the page size of userspace is completely independent of the
page size used by the guest: userspace can mix normal pages, THPs and
hugetlbfs as it sees fit, and in fact transparent hugepages were not
possible before. It's also now possible to have nested guests and
guests with huge pages running on the same host.

 - Maintainership change for s390 vfio-pci

 - Small quality of life improvement for protected guests

 x86:

 - Add support for giving the guest full ownership of PMU hardware (contexted
switched around the fastpath run loop) and allowing direct access to data
MSRs and PMCs (restricted by the vPMU model). KVM still intercepts
access to control registers, e.g. to enforce event filtering and to
prevent the guest from profiling sensitive host state. This is more
accurate, since it has no risk of contention and thus dropped events, and
   also has significantly less overhead.

For more information, see the commit message for merge commit bf2c3138ae
("Merge tag 'kvm-x86-pmu-6.20' of https://github.com/kvm-x86/linux into HEAD").

 - Disallow changing the virtual CPU model if L2 is active, for all the same
reasons KVM disallows change the model after the first KVM_RUN.

 - Fix a bug where KVM would incorrectly reject host accesses to PV MSRs
when running with KVM_CAP_ENFORCE_PV_FEATURE_CPUID enabled, even if those
were advertised as supported to userspace,

 - Fix a bug with protected guest state (SEV-ES/SNP and TDX) VMs, where KVM
would attempt to read CR3 configuring an async #PF entry.

 - Fail the build if EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL or EXPORT_SYMBOL is used in KVM (for x86
only) to enforce usage of EXPORT_SYMBOL_FOR_KVM_INTERNAL. Only a few exports
that are intended for external usage, and those are allowed explicitly.

 - When checking nested events after a vCPU is unblocked, ignore -EBUSY instead
of WARNing. Userspace can sometimes put the vCPU into what should be an
impossible state, and spurious exit to userspace on -EBUSY does not really
do anything to solve the issue.

 - Also throw in the towel and drop the WARN on INIT/SIPI being blocked when vCPU
is in Wait-For-SIPI, which also resulted in playing whack-a-mole with syzkaller
stuffing architecturally impossible states into KVM.

 - Add support for new Intel instructions that don't require anything beyond
   enumerating feature flags to userspace.

 - Grab SRCU when reading PDPTRs in KVM_GET_SREGS2.

 - Add WARNs to guard against modifying KVM's CPU caps outside of the intended
setup flow, as nested VMX in particular is sensitive to unexpected changes
   in KVM's golden configuration.

 - Add a quirk to allow userspace to opt-in to actually suppress EOI broadcasts
when the suppression feature is enabled by the guest (currently limited to
split IRQCHIP, i.e. userspace I/O APIC). Sadly, simply fixing KVM to honor
Suppress EOI Broadcasts isn't an option as some userspaces have come to rely
on KVM's buggy behavior (KVM advertises Supress EOI Broadcast irrespective
of whether or not userspace I/O APIC supports Directed EOIs).

 - Clean up KVM's handling of marking mapped vCPU pages dirty.

 - Drop a pile of *ancient* sanity checks hidden behind in KVM's unused
ASSERT() macro, most of which could be trivially triggered by the guest
and/or user, and all of which were useless.

 - Fold "struct dest_map" into its sole user, "struct rtc_status", to make it
more obvious what the weird parameter is used for, and to allow fropping
   these RTC shenanigans if CONFIG_KVM_IOAPIC=n.

 - Bury all of ioapic.h, i8254.h and related ioctls (including
   KVM_CREATE_IRQCHIP) behind CONFIG_KVM_IOAPIC=y.

 - Add a regression test for recent APICv update fixes.

 - Handle "hardware APIC ISR", a.k.a. SVI, updates in kvm_apic_update_apicv()
to consolidate the updates, and to co-locate SVI updates with the updates
for KVM's own cache of ISR information.

 - Drop a dead function declaration.

 - Minor cleanups.

 x86 (Intel):

 - Rework KVM's handling of VMCS updates while L2 is active to temporarily
switch to vmcs01 instead of deferring the update until the next nested
VM-Exit. The deferred updates approach directly contributed to several
bugs, was proving to be a maintenance burden due to the difficulty in
auditing the correctness of deferred updates, and was polluting
"struct nested_vmx" with a growing pile of booleans.

 - Fix an SGX bug where KVM would incorrectly try to handle EPCM page faults,
and instead always reflect them into the guest. Since KVM doesn't shadow
EPCM entries, EPCM violations cannot be due to KVM interference and
   can't be resolved by KVM.

 - Fix a bug where KVM would register its posted interrupt wakeup handler even
   if loading kvm-intel.ko ultimately failed.

 - Disallow access to vmcb12 fields that aren't fully supported, mostly to
avoid weirdness and complexity for FRED and other features, where KVM wants
enable VMCS shadowing for fields that conditionally exist.

 - Print out the "bad" offsets and values if kvm-intel.ko refuses to load (or
refuses to online a CPU) due to a VMCS config mismatch.

 x86 (AMD):

 - Drop a user-triggerable WARN on nested_svm_load_cr3() failure.

 - Add support for virtualizing ERAPS. Note, correct virtualization of ERAPS
relies on an upcoming, publicly announced change in the APM to reduce the
set of conditions where hardware (i.e. KVM) *must* flush the RAP.

 - Ignore nSVM intercepts for instructions that are not supported according to
   L1's virtual CPU model.

 - Add support for expedited writes to the fast MMIO bus, a la VMX's fastpath
   for EPT Misconfig.

 - Don't set GIF when clearing EFER.SVME, as GIF exists independently of SVM,
and allow userspace to restore nested state with GIF=0.

 - Treat exit_code as an unsigned 64-bit value through all of KVM.

 - Add support for fetching SNP certificates from userspace.

 - Fix a bug where KVM would use vmcb02 instead of vmcb01 when emulating VMLOAD
or VMSAVE on behalf of L2.

 - Misc fixes and cleanups.

 x86 selftests:

 - Add a regression test for TPR<=>CR8 synchronization and IRQ masking.

 - Overhaul selftest's MMU infrastructure to genericize stage-2 MMU support,
and extend x86's infrastructure to support EPT and NPT (for L2 guests).

 - Extend several nested VMX tests to also cover nested SVM.

 - Add a selftest for nested VMLOAD/VMSAVE.

 - Rework the nested dirty log test, originally added as a regression test for
PML where KVM logged L2 GPAs instead of L1 GPAs, to improve test coverage
and to hopefully make the test easier to understand and maintain.

 guest_memfd:

 - Remove kvm_gmem_populate()'s preparation tracking and half-baked hugepage
handling. SEV/SNP was the only user of the tracking and it can do it via
   the RMP.

 - Retroactively document and enforce (for SNP) that KVM_SEV_SNP_LAUNCH_UPDATE
and KVM_TDX_INIT_MEM_REGION require the source page to be 4KiB aligned, to
avoid non-trivial complexity for something that no known VMM seems to be
doing and to avoid an API special case for in-place conversion, which
   simply can't support unaligned sources.

 - When populating guest_memfd memory, GUP the source page in common code and
pass the refcounted page to the vendor callback, instead of letting vendor
code do the heavy lifting. Doing so avoids a looming deadlock bug with
in-place due an AB-BA conflict betwee mmap_lock and guest_memfd's filemap
   invalidate lock.

 Generic:

 - Fix a bug where KVM would ignore the vCPU's selected address space when
creating a vCPU-specific mapping of guest memory. Actually this bug
could not be hit even on x86, the only architecture with multiple
address spaces, but it's a bug nevertheless.

of SVM, and allow userspace to restore nested state with GIF=0

   - Treat exit_code as an unsigned 64-bit value through all of KVM

   - Add support for fetching SNP certificates from userspace

   - Fix a bug where KVM would use vmcb02 instead of vmcb01 when
emulating VMLOAD or VMSAVE on behalf of L2

   - Misc fixes and cleanups

  x86 selftests:

   - Add a regression test for TPR<=>CR8 synchronization and IRQ masking

   - Overhaul selftest's MMU infrastructure to genericize stage-2 MMU
support, and extend x86's infrastructure to support EPT and NPT
     (for L2 guests)

   - Extend several nested VMX tests to also cover nested SVM

   - Add a selftest for nested VMLOAD/VMSAVE

   - Rework the nested dirty log test, originally added as a regression
test for PML where KVM logged L2 GPAs instead of L1 GPAs, to
improve test coverage and to hopefully make the test easier to
     understand and maintain

  guest_memfd:

   - Remove kvm_gmem_populate()'s preparation tracking and half-baked
hugepage handling. SEV/SNP was the only user of the tracking and it
can do it via the RMP

   - Retroactively document and enforce (for SNP) that
     KVM_SEV_SNP_LAUNCH_UPDATE and KVM_TDX_INIT_MEM_REGION require the
source page to be 4KiB aligned, to avoid non-trivial complexity for
something that no known VMM seems to be doing and to avoid an API
special case for in-place conversion, which simply can't support
     unaligned sources

   - When populating guest_memfd memory, GUP the source page in common
code and pass the refcounted page to the vendor callback, instead
of letting vendor code do the heavy lifting. Doing so avoids a
looming deadlock bug with in-place due an AB-BA conflict betwee
mmap_lock and guest_memfd's filemap invalidate lock

  Generic:

   - Fix a bug where KVM would ignore the vCPU's selected address space
when creating a vCPU-specific mapping of guest memory. Actually
this bug could not be hit even on x86, the only architecture with
multiple address spaces, but it's a bug nevertheless"

9fac145b6d mm, arch: consolidate hugetlb CMA reservation
Every architecture that supports hugetlb_cma command line parameter
reserves CMA areas for hugetlb during setup_arch().

This obfuscates the ordering of hugetlb CMA initialization with respect to
the rest initialization of the core MM.

Introduce arch_hugetlb_cma_order() callback to allow architectures report
the desired order-per-bit of CMA areas and provide a week implementation
of arch_hugetlb_cma_order() for architectures that don't support hugetlb
with CMA.

Use this callback in hugetlb_cma_reserve() instead if passing the order as
parameter and call hugetlb_cma_reserve() from mm_core_init_early() rather
than have it spread over architecture specific code.

4267739cab arch, mm: consolidate initialization of SPARSE memory model
Every architecture calls sparse_init() during setup_arch() although the
data structures created by sparse_init() are not used until the
initialization of the core MM.

Beside the code duplication, calling sparse_init() from architecture
specific code causes ordering differences of vmemmap and HVO
initialization on different architectures.

Move the call to sparse_init() from architecture specific code to
free_area_init() to ensure that vmemmap and HVO initialization order is
always the same.

d49004c5f0 arch, mm: consolidate initialization of nodes, zones and memory map
To initialize node, zone and memory map data structures every architecture
calls free_area_init() during setup_arch() and passes it an array of zone
limits.

Beside code duplication it creates "interesting" ordering cases between
allocation and initialization of hugetlb and the memory map. Some
architectures allocate hugetlb pages very early in setup_arch() in certain
cases, some only create hugetlb CMA areas in setup_arch() and sometimes
hugetlb allocations happen mm_core_init().

With arch_zone_limits_init() helper available now on all architectures it
is no longer necessary to call free_area_init() from architecture setup
code. Rather core MM initialization can call arch_zone_limits_init() in a
single place.

This allows to unify ordering of hugetlb vs memory map allocation and
initialization.

Remove the call to free_area_init() from architecture specific code and
place it in a new mm_core_init_early() function that is called immediately
after setup_arch().

After this refactoring it is possible to consolidate hugetlb allocations
and eliminate differences in ordering of hugetlb and memory map
initialization among different architectures.

As the first step of this consolidation move hugetlb_bootmem_alloc() to
mm_core_early_init().

c68c2ef9d6 riscv/mm: teach pte_mkwrite to manufacture shadow stack PTEs
pte_mkwrite() creates PTEs with WRITE encodings for the underlying
architecture. The underlying architecture can have two types of
writeable mappings: one that can be written using regular store
instructions, and another one that can only be written using
specialized store instructions (like shadow stack stores).
pte_mkwrite can select write PTE encoding based on VMA range (i.e.
VM_SHADOW_STACK)

6c7559f22b riscv/mm: ensure PROT_WRITE leads to VM_READ | VM_WRITE
'arch_calc_vm_prot_bits' is implemented on risc-v to return VM_READ |
VM_WRITE if PROT_WRITE is specified. Similarly 'riscv_sys_mmap' is
updated to convert all incoming PROT_WRITE to (PROT_WRITE | PROT_READ).
This is to make sure that any existing apps using PROT_WRITE still work.

Earlier 'protection_map[VM_WRITE]' used to pick read-write PTE encodings.
Now 'protection_map[VM_WRITE]' will always pick PAGE_SHADOWSTACK PTE
encodings for shadow stack. The above changes ensure that existing apps
continue to work because underneath, the kernel will be picking
'protection_map[VM_WRITE|VM_READ]' PTE encodings.

a74f038fa5 riscv: ptdump: use seq_puts() in pt_dump_seq_puts() macro
The pt_dump_seq_puts() macro incorrectly uses seq_printf() instead of
seq_puts(). This is both a performance issue and conceptually wrong,
as the macro name suggests plain string output (puts) but the
implementation uses formatted output (printf).

The macro is used in ptdump.c:301 to output a newline character. Using
seq_printf() adds unnecessary overhead for format string parsing when
outputting this constant string.

This bug was introduced in commit 59c4da8640 ("riscv: Add support to
dump the kernel page tables") in 2020, which copied the implementation
pattern from other architectures that had the same bug.

e45085f267 kasan: call kasan_init_generic in kasan_init
Call kasan_init_generic() which handles Generic KASAN initialization. For
architectures that do not select ARCH_DEFER_KASAN, this will be a no-op
for the runtime flag but will print the initialization banner.

For SW_TAGS and HW_TAGS modes, their respective init functions will handle
the flag enabling, if they are enabled/implemented.

17e9521044 riscv: mm: Use mmu-type from FDT to limit SATP mode
Some RISC-V implementations may hang when attempting to write an
unsupported SATP mode, even though the latest RISC-V specification
states such writes should have no effect. To avoid this issue, the
logic for selecting SATP mode has been refined:

The kernel now determines the SATP mode limit by taking the minimum of
the value specified by the kernel command line (noXlvl) and the
"mmu-type" property in the device tree (FDT). If only one is specified,
use that.
- If the resulting limit is sv48 or higher, the kernel will probe SATP
modes from this limit downward until a supported mode is found.
- If the limit is sv39, the kernel will directly use sv39 without
  probing.

This ensures SATP mode selection is safe and compatible with both
hardware and user configuration, minimizing the risk of hangs.

53fbef56e0 mm: introduce memdesc_flags_t
Patch series "Add and use memdesc_flags_t".

At some point struct page will be separated from struct slab and struct
folio. This is a step towards that by introducing a type for the 'flags'
word of all three structures. This gives us a certain amount of type
safety by establishing that some of these unsigned longs are different
from other unsigned longs in that they contain things like node ID,
section number and zone number in the upper bits. That lets us have
functions that can be easily called by anyone who has a slab, folio or
page (but not easily by anyone else) to get the node or zone.

There's going to be some unusual merge problems with this as some odd bits
of the kernel decide they want to print out the flags value or something
similar by writing page->flags and now they'll need to write page->flags.f
instead. That's most of the churn here. Maybe we should be removing
these things from the debug output?

This patch (of 11):

Wrap the unsigned long flags in a typedef. In upcoming patches, this will
provide a strong hint that you can't just pass a random unsigned long to
functions which take this as an argument.

a9e056de66 mm: remove arch_flush_tlb_batched_pending() arch helper
Since commit 4b63491838 ("arm64/mm: Close theoretical race where stale
TLB entry remains valid"), all arches that use tlbbatch for reclaim
(arm64, riscv, x86) implement arch_flush_tlb_batched_pending() with a
flush_tlb_mm().

So let's simplify by removing the unnecessary abstraction and doing the
flush_tlb_mm() directly in flush_tlb_batched_pending(). This effectively
reverts commit db6c1f6f23 ("mm/tlbbatch: introduce
arch_flush_tlb_batched_pending()").

35c18f2933 Add a new optional ",cma" suffix to the crashkernel= command line option
Patch series "kdump: crashkernel reservation from CMA", v5.

This series implements a way to reserve additional crash kernel memory
using CMA.

Currently, all the memory for the crash kernel is not usable by the 1st
(production) kernel. It is also unmapped so that it can't be corrupted by
the fault that will eventually trigger the crash. This makes sense for
the memory actually used by the kexec-loaded crash kernel image and initrd
and the data prepared during the load (vmcoreinfo, ...). However, the
reserved space needs to be much larger than that to provide enough
run-time memory for the crash kernel and the kdump userspace. Estimating
the amount of memory to reserve is difficult. Being too careful makes
kdump likely to end in OOM, being too generous takes even more memory from
the production system. Also, the reservation only allows reserving a
single contiguous block (or two with the "low" suffix). I've seen systems
where this fails because the physical memory is fragmented.

By reserving additional crashkernel memory from CMA, the main crashkernel
reservation can be just large enough to fit the kernel and initrd image,
minimizing the memory taken away from the production system. Most of the
run-time memory for the crash kernel will be memory previously available
to userspace in the production system. As this memory is no longer
wasted, the reservation can be done with a generous margin, making kdump
more reliable. Kernel memory that we need to preserve for dumping is
normally not allocated from CMA, unless it is explicitly allocated as
movable. Currently this is only the case for memory ballooning and zswap.
Such movable memory will be missing from the vmcore. User data is
typically not dumped by makedumpfile. When dumping of user data is
intended this new CMA reservation cannot be used.

There are five patches in this series:

The first adds a new ",cma" suffix to the recenly introduced generic
crashkernel parsing code. parse_crashkernel() takes one more argument to
store the cma reservation size.

The second patch implements reserve_crashkernel_cma() which performs the
reservation. If the requested size is not available in a single range,
multiple smaller ranges will be reserved.

The third patch updates Documentation/, explicitly mentioning the
potential DMA corruption of the CMA-reserved memory.

The fourth patch adds a short delay before booting the kdump kernel,
allowing pending DMA transfers to finish.

The fifth patch enables the functionality for x86 as a proof of
concept. There are just three things every arch needs to do:
- call reserve_crashkernel_cma()
- include the CMA-reserved ranges in the physical memory map
- exclude the CMA-reserved ranges from the memory available
through /proc/vmcore by excluding them from the vmcoreinfo
  PT_LOAD ranges.

Adding other architectures is easy and I can do that as soon as this
series is merged.

With this series applied, specifying
	crashkernel=100M craskhernel=1G,cma
on the command line will make a standard crashkernel reservation
of 100M, where kexec will load the kernel and initrd.

An additional 1G will be reserved from CMA, still usable by the production
system. The crash kernel will have 1.1G memory available. The 100M can
be reliably predicted based on the size of the kernel and initrd.

The new cma suffix is completely optional. When no
crashkernel=size, cma is specified, everything works as before.

This patch (of 5):

Add a new cma_size parameter to parse_crashkernel(). When not NULL, call
__parse_crashkernel to parse the CMA reservation size from
"crashkernel=size, cma" and store it in cma_size.

Set cma_size to NULL in all calls to parse_crashkernel().

59305202c6 mm/ptdump: take the memory hotplug lock inside ptdump_walk_pgd()
Memory hot remove unmaps and tears down various kernel page table regions
as required. The ptdump code can race with concurrent modifications of
the kernel page tables. When leaf entries are modified concurrently, the
dump code may log stale or inconsistent information for a VA range, but
this is otherwise not harmful.

But when intermediate levels of kernel page table are freed, the dump code
will continue to use memory that has been freed and potentially
reallocated for another purpose. In such cases, the ptdump code may
dereference bogus addresses, leading to a number of potential problems.

To avoid the above mentioned race condition, platforms such as arm64,
riscv and s390 take memory hotplug lock, while dumping kernel page table
via the sysfs interface /sys/kernel/debug/kernel_page_tables.

Similar race condition exists while checking for pages that might have
been marked W+X via /sys/kernel/debug/kernel_page_tables/check_wx_pages
which in turn calls ptdump_check_wx(). Instead of solving this race
condition again, let's just move the memory hotplug lock inside generic
ptdump_check_wx() which will benefit both the scenarios.

Drop get_online_mems() and put_online_mems() combination from all existing
platform ptdump code paths.

96d81e4766 mm/pagewalk: split walk_page_range_novma() into kernel/user parts
walk_page_range_novma() is rather confusing - it supports two modes, one
used often, the other used only for debugging.

The first mode is the common case of traversal of kernel page tables,
which is what nearly all callers use this for.

Secondly it provides an unusual debugging interface that allows for the
traversal of page tables in a userland range of memory even for that
memory which is not described by a VMA.

It is far from certain that such page tables should even exist, but
perhaps this is precisely why it is useful as a debugging mechanism.

As a result, this is utilised by ptdump only. Historically, things were
reversed - ptdump was the only user, and other parts of the kernel evolved
to use the kernel page table walking here.

Since we have some complicated and confusing locking rules for the novma
case, it makes sense to separate the two usages into their own functions.

Doing this also provide self-documentation as to the intent of the caller
- are they doing something rather unusual or are they simply doing a
standard kernel page table walk?

We therefore establish two separate functions - walk_page_range_debug()
for this single usage, and walk_kernel_page_table_range() for general
kernel page table walking.

The walk_page_range_debug() function is currently used to traverse both
userland and kernel mappings, so we maintain this and in the case of
kernel mappings being traversed, we have walk_page_range_debug() invoke
walk_kernel_page_table_range() internally.

We additionally make walk_page_range_debug() internal to mm.

riscv: mm: Add support for Svinval extension
The Svinval extension splits SFENCE.VMA instruction into finer-grained
invalidation and ordering operations and is mandatory for RVA23S64 profile.
When Svinval is enabled the local_flush_tlb_range_threshold_asid function
should use the following sequence to optimize the tlb flushes instead of
a simple sfence.vma:

sfence.w.inval
svinval.vma
  .
  .
svinval.vma
sfence.inval.ir

The maximum number of consecutive svinval.vma instructions that
can be executed in local_flush_tlb_range_threshold_asid function
is limited to 64. This is required to avoid soft lockups and the
approach is similar to that used in arm64.
