0e26ba5a87 perf disasm: Refactor arch__find and initialization of arch structs
Switch arch__find to using an ELF machine number rather than a
string.

Rather than an array of fixed size arch structs turn the init functions
into new functions indexed by the ELF machine they correspond to.

This allows data to be stored with a struct arch with the container_of
trick, so the priv variable can be removed.

Switch to using the thread to find the arch rather than the evsel as the
evsel only has limited notions of the running thread upon which
disassembly is performed.

Factor out the e_machine and e_flags into their own struct to make them
easier to pass around.

c4e3a00356 perf map_symbol: Switch from holding maps to holding thread
maps may belong to >1 thread. In contexts like symbolization
information from the thread may be useful, such as the ELF machine.

As the maps can be gained from the thread switch from holding maps in
struct map_symbol to holding the thread.

Holding the maps in addr_location is also redundant, switch this to
using thread__maps.

The 'struct arch' holds variables that are read but not written, except
during some initialization.

Change most uses to be for a "const struct arch *" version to capture
this immutability.

f2195c5b43 perf annotate: Fix Clang build by adding block in switch case
Clang and GCC disagree with what constitutes a "declaration after
statement". GCC allows declarations in switch cases without an extra
block, as long as it's immediately after the label. Clang does not.
Unfortunately this is the case even in the latest versions of both
compilers. The only option that makes them behave in the same way is
-Wpedantic, which can't be enabled in Perf because of the number of
warnings it generates.

Add a block to fix the Clang build, which is the only thing we can do.

262c61435c perf annotate: fix a crash when annotate the same symbol with 's' and 'T'
When perf report with annotation for a symbol, press 's' and 'T', then exit
the annotate browser. Once annotate the same symbol, the annotate browser
will crash.

The browser.arch was required to be correctly updated when data type
feature was enabled by 'T'. Usually it was initialized by symbol__annotate2
function. If a symbol has already been correctly annotated at the first
time, it should not call the symbol__annotate2 function again, thus the
browser.arch will not get initialized. Then at the second time to show the
annotate browser, the data type needs to be displayed but the browser.arch
is empty.

1e5881b168 perf annotate: Fix title line after return from call
The second title line which shows symbol and DSO name is broken after
moving to another function at 'callq' instruction.

The ui_browser__show_title() is used for the first line which shows
global sample count and event name so it doesn't change across the
functions.

What it needs after processing 'call' instruction is to update the
second line onlly.  Add a comment and call appropriate function.

You can verify the change by pressing ENTER on a 'call' instruction and
then ESC.

1086237f0a perf annotate: Use a hashmap to save type data
It can slowdown annotation browser if objdump is processing large DWARF
data.  Let's add a hashmap to save the data type info for each line.

Note that this is needed for TUI only because stdio only processes each
line once.  TUI will display the same line whenever it refreshes the
screen.

53a61a6ca2 perf annotate: Add dso__debuginfo() helper
It'd be great if it can get the correct debug information using DSO
build-Id not just the path name.  Instead of adding new callsites of
debuginfo__new(), let's add dso__debuginfo() which can hide the access
using the pathname and help the future conversion.

7dbe89ca3d perf annotate: Add --code-with-type support for TUI
Until now, the --code-with-type option is available only on stdio.
But it was an artifical limitation because of an implemention issue.

Implement the same logic in annotation_line__write() for stdio2/TUI
and remove the limitation and update the man page.

f06ba25ec5 perf annotate: Rename to __hist_entry__tui_annotate()
There are three different but similar functions for annotation on TUI.
Rename it to __hist_entry__tui_annotate() and make sure it passes 'he'.
It's not used for now but it'll be needed for later use.

Also remove map_symbol__tui_annotate() which was a simple wrapper.

e201757f7a perf annotate: Fix source code annotate with objdump
Recently it uses llvm and capstone to speed up annotation or disassembly
of instructions.  But they don't support source code view yet.  Until it
fixed, we can force to use objdump for source code annotation.

To prevent performance loss, it's disabled by default and turned it on
when user requests it in TUI by pressing 's' key.

bf5ea13bae perf ui browser annotate: Don't show the source code view status initially
To avoid initial clutter, and not to change the view users that are not
interested in toggling the source code view, just show it when the user
does the first toggle keypress (pressing 's').

I know that there are users that really disable the source code view by
using:

  # perf config annotate.hide_src_code=yes

c6043d35c0 perf ui browser annotate: Show in the title the source code view toggle
Ingo reported that having a visual cue if the source code view is
enabled will help in noticing a bug when no source is presented.

Change the title scnprintf routine for the annotation browser to do
that.

More work is needed to have the capabilities of the existing
disassemblers listed somehow and start using the fastest one but switch
to another that provides features only made available by some particular
one, like the first one, the objdump output parsing one.

An evsel idx may not be stable due to sorting, evlist removal,
etc. Try to reduce it being part of APIs by explicitly passing the

ee756ef749 perf dso: Add reference count checking and accessor functions
Add reference count checking to struct dso, this can help with
implementing correct reference counting discipline. To avoid
RC_CHK_ACCESS everywhere, add accessor functions for the variables in
struct dso.

The majority of the change is mechanical in nature and not easy to
split up.

Committer testing:

'perf test' up to this patch shows no regressions.

2b8dbf69ec perf annotate: Make sure to call symbol__annotate2() in TUI
The symbol__annotate2() initializes some data structures needed by TUI.
It has a logic to prevent calling it multiple times by checking if it
has the annotated source.  But data type profiling uses a different
code (symbol__annotate) to allocate the annotated lines in advance.
So TUI missed to call symbol__annotate2() when it shows the annotation
browser.

Make symbol__annotate() reentrant and handle that situation properly.
This fixes a crash in the annotation browser started by perf report in
TUI like below.

  $ perf report -s type,sym --tui
  # and press 'a' key and then move down

It's a helper function to get annotation_line at the given offset
without using the offsets array.  The goal is to get rid of the
offsets array altogether.  It just does the linear search but I

6af6d22495 perf TUI: Don't ignore job control
In its infinite wisdom, by default, SLang sets susp undef, and this can
only be un-done by calling SLtty_set_suspend_state(true).  After every
SLang_init_tty().

Additionally, no provisions are made for maintaining the teletype
attributes across suspend/continue (outside of curses emulation
mode(?!), which provides full support, naturally), so we need to save
and restore the flags ourselves, as well as reset the text colours when
going under.  We need to also re-draw the screen, and raising SIGWINCH,
shockingly, Just Works.

The correct solution would be to Not Use SLang, but as a stop-gap,
this makes TUI 'perf report' usable.

The cycles info is used only when branch stack is provided.  Separate
them from 'struct annotation_line' into a separate struct and lazy
allocate them to save some memory.

2e9f9d4a72 perf annotation: Switch lock from a mutex to a sharded_mutex
Remove the "struct mutex lock" variable from annotation that is
allocated per symbol. This removes in the region of 40 bytes per
symbol allocation. Use a sharded mutex where the number of shards is
set to the number of CPUs. Assuming good hashing of the annotation
(done based on the pointer), this means in order to contend there
needs to be more threads than CPUs, which is not currently true in any
perf command. Were contention an issue it is straightforward to
increase the number of shards in the mutex.

On my Debian/glibc based machine, this reduces the size of struct
annotation from 136 bytes to 96 bytes, or nearly 30%.

6d491b37e7 perf annotate browser: Add '<' and '>' keys for navigation
hists__find_annotations() allows to move to next or previous symbols for
annotation using the arrow keys.  But TUI annotate_browser__run() uses
the RIGHT key as ENTER to handle jump/call instructions.  That makes the
navigation to the next function impossible.

I'd like to change it back to move the next symbol but I'm afraid if
some users get confused.  So I added a new pair of keys to handle that.

63df0e4bc3 perf map: Add accessor for dso
Later changes will add reference count checking for struct map, with
dso being the most frequently accessed variable. Add an accessor so
that the reference count check is only necessary in one place.

Additional changes:
 - add a dso variable to avoid repeated map__dso calls.
 - in builtin-mem.c dump_raw_samples, code only partially tested for
   dso == NULL. Make the possibility of NULL consistent.
 - in thread.c thread__memcpy fix use of spaces and use tabs.

Handle 'f' key to toggle the display offset and full address.  Obviously

d5962fb7d6 perf annotate: Avoid TUI crash when navigating in the annotation of recursive functions
In 'perf report', entering a recursive function from inside of itself
(either directly of indirectly through some other function) results in
calling symbol__annotate2 multiple() times, and freeing the whole
disassembly when exiting from the innermost instance.

The first issue causes the function's disassembly to be duplicated, and
the latter a heap use-after-free (and crash) when trying to access the
disassembly again.

I reproduced the bug on perf 5.11.22 (Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS) and 5.16.rc8
with the following testcase (compile with gcc recursive.c -o recursive).
To reproduce:

- perf record ./recursive
- perf report
- enter fibonacci and annotate it
- move the cursor on one of the "callq fibonacci" instructions and press enter
  - at this point there will be two copies of the function in the disassembly
- go back by pressing q, and perf will crash

This patch addresses the issue by annotating a function and freeing the
associated memory on exit only if no annotation is already present, so
that a recursive function is only annotated on entry.

7efbcc8c07 perf annotate: Fix fused instr logic for assembly functions
Some x86 microarchitectures fuse a subset of cmp/test/ALU instructions
with branch instructions, and thus perf annotate highlight such valid
pairs as fused.

When annotated with source, perf uses struct disasm_line to contain
either source or instruction line from objdump output. Usually, a C
statement generates multiple instructions which include such
cmp/test/ALU + branch instruction pairs. But in case of assembly
function, each individual assembly source line generate one
instruction.

The 'perf annotate' instruction fusion logic assumes the previous
disasm_line as the previous instruction line, which is wrong because,
for assembly function, previous disasm_line contains source line.  And
thus perf fails to highlight valid fused instruction pairs for assembly
functions.

Fix it by searching backward until we find an instruction line and
consider that disasm_line as fused with current branch instruction.

3d8b92472a perf annotate: Re-add annotate_warned functionality
Setting annotate_warned to true on errors was removed in
commit ee51d85139 ("perf annotate: Introduce strerror for handling
symbol__disassemble() errors") which means when 'perf annotate
--skip-missing' is used warnings are shown multiple times for the same
DSO.

Setting this again restores the original behavior of only one warning
each.

5a4451e4d5 perf annotate: Fix 's' on source line when disasm is empty
If the disasm is empty, 's' should fail. Instead it seemingly works,
hiding the empty lines and causing an assertion error on the next time
annotate is called (from within perf report).

The problem is caused by a buffer overflow, caused by a wrong exit
condition in annotate_browser__find_next_asm_line, which checks
browser->b.top instead of browser->b.entries.

This patch fixes the issue, making annotate_browser__toggle_source
fail if the disasm is empty (nothing happens to the user).

6de249d66d perf annotate: Allow 's' on source code lines
In perf annotate, when 's' is pressed on a line containing source code,
it shows the message "Only available for assembly lines".

This patch gets rid of the error, moving the cursr to the next available
asm line (or the closest previous one if no asm line is found moving
forwards), before hiding source code lines.

 - handle case of no asm line found in
   annotate_browser__find_next_asm_line by returning NULL and
   handling error in caller.
