When HMAC validation fails on a received ACK + MP_JOIN in
subflow_syn_recv_sock(), the subflow is reset with reason
MPTCP_RST_EPROHIBIT ("Administratively prohibited"). This is
incorrect: HMAC validation failure is an MPTCP protocol-level
error, not an administrative policy denial.
The mirror site on the client, in subflow_finish_connect(), already
uses MPTCP_RST_EMPTCP ("MPTCP-specific error") for the same kind of
HMAC failure on the SYN/ACK + MP_JOIN. Use the same reason on the
server side for symmetry and accuracy.

In subflow_finish_connect(), HMAC validation of the server's HMAC
in SYN/ACK + MP_JOIN increments MPTCP_MIB_JOINACKMAC ("HMAC was
wrong on ACK + MP_JOIN") on failure. The function processes the
SYN/ACK, not the ACK; the matching MPTCP_MIB_JOINSYNACKMAC counter
("HMAC was wrong on SYN/ACK + MP_JOIN") exists but is not
incremented anywhere in the tree.
The mirror site on the server, subflow_syn_recv_sock(), already
uses JOINACKMAC correctly for ACK HMAC failure. Use JOINSYNACKMAC
at the SYN/ACK validation site so each counter reflects the packet
whose HMAC actually failed.

Use the typed random integer helpers instead of
get_random_bytes() when filling a single integer variable.
The helpers return the value directly, require no pointer
or size argument, and better express intent.
Skipped sites writing into __be16 (netdevsim) and __le64
(ceph) fields where a direct assignment would trigger
sparse endianness warnings.

The ehash table lookups are lockless and rely on
SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU to guarantee socket memory stability
during RCU read-side critical sections. Both tcp_prot and
tcpv6_prot have their slab caches created with this flag
via proto_register().
However, MPTCP's mptcp_subflow_init() copies tcpv6_prot into
tcpv6_prot_override during inet_init() (fs_initcall, level 5),
before inet6_init() (module_init/device_initcall, level 6) has
called proto_register(&tcpv6_prot). At that point,
tcpv6_prot.slab is still NULL, so tcpv6_prot_override.slab
remains NULL permanently.
This causes MPTCP v6 subflow child sockets to be allocated via
kmalloc (falling into kmalloc-4k) instead of the TCPv6 slab
cache. The kmalloc-4k cache lacks SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU, so
when these sockets are freed without SOCK_RCU_FREE (which is
cleared for child sockets by design), the memory can be
immediately reused. Concurrent ehash lookups under
rcu_read_lock can then access freed memory, triggering a
slab-use-after-free in __inet_lookup_established.
Fix this by splitting the IPv6-specific initialization out of
mptcp_subflow_init() into a new mptcp_subflow_v6_init(), called
from mptcp_proto_v6_init() before protocol registration. This
ensures tcpv6_prot_override.slab correctly inherits the
SLAB_TYPESAFE_BY_RCU slab cache.

tcp_v{4,6}_send_check() are only called from tcp_output.c
and should be made static so that the compiler does not need
to put an out of line copy of them.
Remove (struct inet_connection_sock_af_ops) send_check field
and use instead @net_header_len.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Code in tcp_v6_syn_recv_sock() after the call to tcp_v4_syn_recv_sock()
is done too late.
After tcp_v4_syn_recv_sock(), the child socket is already visible
from TCP ehash table and other cpus might use it.
Since newinet->pinet6 is still pointing to the listener ipv6_pinfo
bad things can happen as syzbot found.
Move the problematic code in tcp_v6_mapped_child_init()
and call this new helper from tcp_v4_syn_recv_sock() before
the ehash insertion.
This allows the removal of one tcp_sync_mss(), since
tcp_v4_syn_recv_sock() will call it with the correct
context.

MPTCP uses several calls of the mptcp_rcv_space_init() helper to
initialize the receive space, with a catch-up call in
mptcp_rcv_space_adjust().
Drop all the other strictly not needed invocations and move constant
fields initialization at socket init/reset time.
This removes a bit of complexity from mptcp DRS code. No functional
changes intended.

The TCP subflow can process the simult-connect syn-ack packet after
transitioning to TCP_FIN1 state, bypassing the MPTCP fallback check,
as the sk_state_change() callback is not invoked for * -> FIN_WAIT1
transitions.
That will move the msk socket to an inconsistent status and the next
incoming data will hit the reported splat.
Close the race moving the simult-fallback check at the earliest possible
stage - that is at syn-ack generation time.
About the fixes tags: [2] was supposed to also fix this issue introduced
by [3]. [1] is required as a dependence: it was not explicitly marked as
a fix, but it is one and it has already been backported before [3]. In
other words, this commit should be backported up to [3], including [2]
and [1] if that's not already there.

MPTCP currently access ack_seq outside the msk socket log scope to
generate the dummy mapping for fallback socket. Soon we are going
to introduce backlog usage and even for fallback socket the ack_seq
value will be significantly off outside of the msk socket lock scope.
Avoid relying on ack_seq for dummy mapping generation, using instead
the subflow sequence number. Note that in case of disconnect() and
(re)connect() we must ensure that any previous state is re-set.

MPTCP currently generate a dummy data_fin for fallback socket
when the fallback subflow has completed data reception using
the current ack_seq.
We are going to introduce backlog usage for the msk soon, even
for fallback sockets: the ack_seq value will not match the most recent
sequence number seen by the fallback subflow socket, as it will ignore
data_seq sitting in the backlog.
Instead use the last map sequence number to set the data_fin,
as fallback (dummy) map sequences are always in sequence.

When a SYN containing the 'C' flag (deny join id0) was received, this
piece of information was not propagated to the path-manager.
Even if this flag is mainly set on the server side, a client can also
tell the server it cannot try to establish new subflows to the client's
initial IP address and port. The server's PM should then record such
info when received, and before sending events about the new connection.

When sk_alloc() allocates a socket, mem_cgroup_sk_alloc() sets
sk->sk_memcg based on the current task.
MPTCP subflow socket creation is triggered from userspace or
an in-kernel worker.
In the latter case, sk->sk_memcg is not what we want. So, we fix
it up from the parent socket's sk->sk_memcg in mptcp_attach_cgroup().
Although the code is placed under #ifdef CONFIG_MEMCG, it is buried
under #ifdef CONFIG_SOCK_CGROUP_DATA.
The two configs are orthogonal. If CONFIG_MEMCG is enabled without
CONFIG_SOCK_CGROUP_DATA, the subflow's memory usage is not charged
correctly.
Let's move the code out of the wrong ifdef guard.
Note that sk->sk_memcg is freed in sk_prot_free() and the parent
sk holds the refcnt of memcg->css here, so we don't need to use
css_tryget().

Add the mibs required to cover the few possible fallback causes still
lacking suck info.
Move the relevant mib increment into the fallback helper, so that no
eventual future fallback operation will miss a paired mib increment.
Additionally track failed fallback via its own mib, such mib is
incremented only when a fallback mandated by the protocol fails - due to
racing subflow creation.
While at the above, rename an existing helper to reduce long lines
problems all along.

We have races similar to the one addressed by the previous patch between
subflow failing and additional subflow creation. They are just harder to
trigger.
The solution is similar. Use a separate flag to track the condition
'socket state prevent any additional subflow creation' protected by the
fallback lock.
The socket fallback makes such flag true, and also receiving or sending
an MP_FAIL option.
The field 'allow_infinite_fallback' is now always touched under the
relevant lock, we can drop the ONCE annotation on write.

This counter is useful to understand why some paths are rejected, and
not created as expected.
It is incremented when receiving a connection request, if the PM didn't
allow the creation of new subflows.

subflow_hmac_valid() needs to access the MPTCP socket and the subflow
request, but not the request sock that is passed in argument.
Instead, the subflow request can be directly passed to avoid getting it
via an additional cast.

Recently, during a debugging session using local MPTCP connections, I
noticed MPJoinAckHMacFailure was not zero on the server side. The
counter was in fact incremented when the PM rejected new subflows,
because the 'subflow' limit was reached.
The fix is easy, simply dissociating the two cases: only the HMAC
validation check should increase MPTCP_MIB_JOINACKMAC counter.

According to the debug log, the same req received two SYN-ACK in a very
short time, very likely because the client retransmits the syn ack due
to multiple reasons.
Even if the packets are transmitted with a relevant time interval, they
can be processed by the server on different CPUs concurrently). The
'subflow_req->msk' ownership is transferred to the subflow the first,
and there will be a risk of a null pointer dereference here.
This patch fixes this issue by moving the 'subflow_req->msk' under the
`own_req == true` conditional.
Note that the !msk check in subflow_hmac_valid() can be dropped, because
the same check already exists under the own_req mpj branch where the
code has been moved to.

Before this patch, if the checksum was not used, the subflow was only
reset if map_data_len was != 0. If there were no MPTCP options or an
invalid mapping, map_data_len was not set to the data len, and then the
subflow was not reset as it should have been, leaving the MPTCP
connection in a wrong fallback mode.
This map_data_len condition has been introduced to handle the reception
of the infinite mapping. Instead, a new dedicated mapping error could
have been returned and treated as a special case. However, the commit
31bf11de14 ("mptcp: introduce MAPPING_BAD_CSUM") has been introduced
by Paolo Abeni soon after, and backported later on to stable. It better
handle the csum case, and it means the exception for valid_csum_seen in
subflow_can_fallback(), plus this one for the infinite mapping in
subflow_check_data_avail(), are no longer needed.
In other words, the code can be simplified there: a fallback should only
be done if msk->allow_infinite_fallback is set. This boolean is set to
false once MPTCP-specific operations acting on the whole MPTCP
connection vs the initial path have been done, e.g. a second path has
been created, or an MPTCP re-injection -- yes, possible even with a
single subflow. The subflow_can_fallback() helper can then be dropped,
and replaced by this single condition.
This also makes the code clearer: a fallback should only be done if it
is possible to do so.
While at it, no need to set map_data_len to 0 in get_mapping_status()
for the infinite mapping case: it will be set to skb->len just after, at
the end of subflow_check_data_avail(), and not read in between.

When we will move the whole RX path under the msk socket lock, updating
the already queued skb for passive fastopen socket at 3rd ack time will
be extremely painful and race prone
The map_seq for already enqueued skbs is used only to allow correct
coalescing with later data; preventing collapsing to the first skb of
a fastopen connect we can completely remove the
__mptcp_fastopen_gen_msk_ackseq() helper.
Before dropping this helper, a new item had to be added to the
mptcp_skb_cb structure. Because this item will be frequently tested in
the fast path -- almost on every packet -- and because there is free
space there, a single byte is used instead of a bitfield. This micro
optimisation slightly reduces the number of CPU operations to do the
associated check.

Consolidate all the cleanup actions requiring the worker in a single
helper and ensure the dummy data fin creation for fallback socket is
performed only when the tcp rx queue is empty.
There are no functional changes intended, but this will simplify the
next patch, when the tcp rx queue spooling could be delayed at release_cb
time.

RFC8684 suggests use of "Middlebox interference (code 0x06)" in case of
fully established subflow that carries data at TCP level with no DSS
sub-option.
This is generally the case when mpext is NULL or mpext->use_map is 0:
use a dedicated value of 'mapping_status' and use it before closing the
socket in subflow_check_data_avail().

We introduce the same handling for potential data races with the
'fully_established' flag in subflow as previously done for
msk->fully_established.
Additionally, we make a crucial change: convert the subflow's
'fully_established' from 'bit_field' to 'bool' type. This is
necessary because methods for avoiding data races don't work well
with 'bit_field'. Specifically, the 'READ_ONCE' needs to know
the size of the variable being accessed, which is not supported in
'bit_field'. Also, 'test_bit' expect the address of 'bit_field'.

As reported by Christoph [1], before this patch, an MPTCP connection was
wrongly reset when a host received a first data packet with MPTCP
options after the 3wHS, but got the next ones without.
According to the MPTCP v1 specs [2], a fallback should happen in this
case, because the host didn't receive a DATA_ACK from the other peer,
nor receive data for more than the initial window which implies a
DATA_ACK being received by the other peer.
The patch here re-uses the same logic as the one used in other places:
by looking at allow_infinite_fallback, which is disabled at the creation
of an additional subflow. It's not looking at the first DATA_ACK (or
implying one received from the other side) as suggested by the RFC, but
it is in continuation with what was already done, which is safer, and it
fixes the reported issue. The next step, looking at this first DATA_ACK,
is tracked in [4].
This patch has been validated using the following Packetdrill script:

Bugged peer implementation can send corrupted DSS options, consistently
hitting a few warning in the data path. Use DEBUG_NET assertions, to
avoid the splat on some builds and handle consistently the error, dumping
related MIBs and performing fallback and/or reset according to the
subflow type.

An MPTCP firewall blackhole can be detected if the following SYN
retransmission after a fallback to "plain" TCP is accepted.
In case of blackhole, a similar technique to the one in place with TFO
is now used: MPTCP can be disabled for a certain period of time, 1h by
default. This time period will grow exponentially when more blackhole
issues get detected right after MPTCP is re-enabled and will reset to
the initial value when the blackhole issue goes away.
The blackhole period can be modified thanks to a new sysctl knob:
blackhole_timeout. Two new MIB counters help understanding what's
happening:
- 'Blackhole', incremented when a blackhole is detected.
- 'MPCapableSYNTXDisabled', incremented when an MPTCP connection
directly falls back to TCP during the blackhole period.
Because the technique is inspired by the one used by TFO, an important
part of the new code is similar to what can find in tcp_fastopen.c, with
some adaptations to the MPTCP case.

Recently, a few issues have been discovered around the creation of
additional subflows. Without these counters, it was difficult to point
out the reason why some subflows were not created as expected.
These counters should have been added earlier, because there is no other
simple ways to extract such information from the kernel, and understand
why subflows have not been created.
While at it, some pr_debug() have been added, just in case the errno
needs to be printed.

__mptcp_subflow_connect() is currently called from the path-managers,
which have all the required information to create subflows. No need to
call the PM again to re-iterate over the list of entries with RCU lock
to get more info.
Instead, it is possible to pass a mptcp_pm_addr_entry structure, instead
of a mptcp_addr_info one. The former contains the ifindex and the flags
that are required when creating the new subflow.
This is a partial revert of commit ee285257a9 ("mptcp: drop flags and
ifindex arguments").
While at it, the local ID can also be set if it is known and 0, to avoid
having to set it in the 'rebuild_header' hook, which will cause a new
iteration of the endpoint entries.

pr_debug() have been added in various places in MPTCP code to help
developers to debug some situations. With the dynamic debug feature, it
is easy to enable all or some of them, and asks users to reproduce
issues with extra debug.
Many of these pr_debug() don't end with a new line, while no 'pr_cont()'
are used in MPTCP code. So the goal was not to display multiple debug
messages on one line: they were then not missing the '\n' on purpose.
Not having the new line at the end causes these messages to be printed
with a delay, when something else needs to be printed. This issue is not
visible when many messages need to be printed, but it is annoying and
confusing when only specific messages are expected, e.g.

re-generate this patch with this simple 'sed' command:

When a peer decides to close one subflow in the middle of a connection
having multiple subflows, the receiver of the first FIN should accept
that, and close the subflow on its side as well. If not, the subflow
will stay half closed, and would even continue to be used until the end
of the MPTCP connection or a reset from the network.
The issue has not been seen before, probably because the in-kernel
path-manager always sends a RM_ADDR before closing the subflow. Upon the
reception of this RM_ADDR, the other peer will initiate the closure on
its side as well. On the other hand, if the RM_ADDR is lost, or if the
path-manager of the other peer only closes the subflow without sending a
RM_ADDR, the subflow would switch to TCP_CLOSE_WAIT, but that's it,
leaving the subflow half-closed.
So now, when the subflow switches to the TCP_CLOSE_WAIT state, and if
the MPTCP connection has not been closed before with a DATA_FIN, the
kernel owning the subflow schedules its worker to initiate the closure
on its side as well.
This issue can be easily reproduced with packetdrill, as visible in [1],
by creating an additional subflow, injecting a FIN+ACK before sending
the DATA_FIN, and expecting a FIN+ACK in return.

When a subflow receives and discards duplicate data, the mptcp
stack assumes that the consumed offset inside the current skb is
zero.
With multiple subflows receiving data simultaneously such assertion
does not held true. As a result the subflow-level copied_seq will
be incorrectly increased and later on the same subflow will observe
a bad mapping, leading to subflow reset.
Address the issue taking into account the skb consumed offset in
mptcp_subflow_discard_data().

There was a support for signal endpoints, but only when the endpoint's
flag was changed during a connection. If an endpoint with the signal and
backup was already present, the MP_JOIN reply was not containing the
backup flag as expected.
That's confusing to have this inconsistent behaviour. On the other hand,
the infrastructure to set the backup flag in the SYN + ACK + MP_JOIN was
already there, it was just never set before. Now when requesting the
local ID from the path-manager, the backup status is also requested.
Note that when the userspace PM is used, the backup flag can be set if
the local address was already used before with a backup flag, e.g. if
the address was announced with the 'backup' flag, or a subflow was
created with the 'backup' flag.

Without such counters, it is difficult to easily debug issues with MPJ
not having the backup flags on production servers.
This is not strictly a fix, but it eases to validate the following
patches without requiring to take packet traces, to query ongoing
connections with Netlink with admin permissions, or to guess by looking
at the behaviour of the packet scheduler. Also, the modification is self
contained, isolated, well controlled, and the increments are done just
after others, there from the beginning. It looks then safe, and helpful
to backport this.
