Extended echo replies use ICMP_EXT_ECHOREPLY as the outbound reply type.
That value is outside the range covered by icmp_pointers[], which only
describes the traditional ICMP types up to NR_ICMP_TYPES.
Avoid consulting icmp_pointers[] for reply types outside that range, and
use array_index_nospec() for the remaining in-range lookup. Normal ICMP
replies keep their existing behavior unchanged.

As IPv6 is built-in only, the ipv6_stub infrastructure is no longer
necessary.
The IPv4 stack interacts with IPv6 mainly to support IPv4 routes with
IPv6 next-hops (RFC 8950). Convert all these cross-family calls from
ipv6_stub to direct function calls. The fallback functions introduced
previously will prevent linkage errors when CONFIG_IPV6 is disabled.

icmp_tag_validation() unconditionally dereferences the result of
rcu_dereference(inet_protos[proto]) without checking for NULL.
The inet_protos[] array is sparse -- only about 15 of 256 protocol
numbers have registered handlers. When ip_no_pmtu_disc is set to 3
(hardened PMTU mode) and the kernel receives an ICMP Fragmentation
Needed error with a quoted inner IP header containing an unregistered
protocol number, the NULL dereference causes a kernel panic in
softirq context.

When an IPsec gateway generates an ICMP error (e.g., Destination Host
Unreachable), the source address incorrectly shows the unreachable
destination instead of the gateway's address. IPv6 behaves correctly.
Before fix:

These sysctls were added in 4cdf507d54 ("icmp: add a global rate
limitation") and their default values might be too small.
Some network tools send probes to closed UDP ports from many hosts
to estimate proportion of packet drops on a particular target.
This patch sets both sysctls to 10000.
Note the per-peer rate-limit (as described in RFC 4443 2.4 (f))
intent is still enforced.
This also increases security, see b38e7819ca
("icmp: randomize the global rate limiter") for reference.

icmp_route_lookup() performs multiple route lookups to find a suitable
route for sending ICMP error messages, with special handling for XFRM
(IPsec) policies.
The lookup sequence is:
1. First, lookup output route for ICMP reply (dst = original src)
2. Pass through xfrm_lookup() for policy check
3. If blocked (-EPERM) or dst is not local, enter "reverse path"
4. In reverse path, call xfrm_decode_session_reverse() to get fl4_dec
which reverses the original packet's flow (saddr<->daddr swapped)
5. If fl4_dec.saddr is local (we are the original destination), use
__ip_route_output_key() for output route lookup
6. If fl4_dec.saddr is NOT local (we are a forwarding node), use
ip_route_input() to simulate the reverse packet's input path
7. Finally, pass rt2 through xfrm_lookup() with XFRM_LOOKUP_ICMP flag
The bug occurs in step 6: ip_route_input() is called with fl4_dec.daddr
(original packet's source) as destination. If this address becomes local
between the initial check and ip_route_input() call (e.g., due to
concurrent "ip addr add"), ip_route_input() returns a LOCAL route with
dst.output set to ip_rt_bug.
This route is then used for ICMP output, causing dst_output() to call
ip_rt_bug(), triggering a WARN_ON:

Fix this by checking rt2->rt_type after ip_route_input(). If it's
RTN_LOCAL, the route cannot be used for output, so treat it as an error.
The reproducer requires kernel modification to widen the race window,

Yizhou Zhao reported that simply having one RAW socket on protocol
IPPROTO_RAW (255) was dangerous.

A protocol of IPPROTO_RAW implies enabled IP_HDRINCL and is able

Use DEFINE_RAW_FLEX() to avoid thousands of -Wflex-array-member-not-at-end
warnings.
Remove struct ip_options_data, and adjust the rest of the code so that
flexible-array member struct ip_options_rcu::opt.__data[] ends last
in struct icmp_bxm.
Compensate for this by using the DEFINE_RAW_FLEX() helper to define each
on-stack struct instance that contained struct ip_options_data as a member,
and to define struct ip_options_rcu with a fixed on-stack size for its
nested flexible-array member opt.__data[].
Also, add a couple of code comments to prevent people from adding members
to a struct after another member that contains a flexible array.
With these changes, fix 2600 warnings of the following type:

Add the ability to append the incoming IP interface information to
ICMPv4 error messages in accordance with RFC 5837 and RFC 4884. This is
required for more meaningful traceroute results in unnumbered networks.
The feature is disabled by default and controlled via a new sysctl
("net.ipv4.icmp_errors_extension_mask") which accepts a bitmask of ICMP
extensions to append to ICMP error messages. Currently, only a single
value is supported, but the interface and the implementation should be
able to support more extensions, if needed.
Clone the skb and copy the relevant data portions before modifying the
skb as the caller of __icmp_send() still owns the skb after the function
returns. This should be fine since by default ICMP error messages are
rate limited to 1000 per second and no more than 1 per second per
specific host.
Trim or pad the packet to 128 bytes before appending the ICMP extension
structure in order to be compatible with legacy applications that assume
that the ICMP extension structure always starts at this offset (the
minimum length specified by RFC 4884).

When the "icmp_errors_use_inbound_ifaddr" sysctl is enabled, the source
IP of ICMP error messages should be the "primary address of the
interface that received the packet that caused the icmp error".
The IPv4 ICMP code determines this interface using inet_iif() which in
the input path translates to skb->skb_iif. If the interface that
received the packet is a VRF port, skb->skb_iif will contain the ifindex
of the VRF device and not that of the receiving interface. This is
because in the input path the VRF driver overrides skb->skb_iif with the
ifindex of the VRF device itself (see vrf_ip_rcv()).
As such, the source IP that will be chosen for the ICMP error message is
either an address assigned to the VRF device itself (if present) or an
address assigned to some VRF port, not necessarily the input or output
interface.
This behavior is especially problematic when the error messages are
"Time Exceeded" messages as it means that utilities like traceroute will
show an incorrect packet path.
Solve this by determining the input interface based on the iif field in
the control block, if present. This field is set in the input path to
skb->skb_iif and is not later overridden by the VRF driver, unlike
skb->skb_iif.
This behavior is consistent with the IPv6 counterpart that already uses
the iif from the control block.

__icmp_send() is used to generate ICMP error messages in response to
various situations such as MTU errors (i.e., "Fragmentation Required")
and too many hops (i.e., "Time Exceeded").
The skb that generated the error does not necessarily come from the IPv4
layer and does not always have a valid IPv4 control block in skb->cb.
Therefore, commit 9ef6b42ad6 ("net: Add __icmp_send helper.") changed
the function to take the IP options structure as argument instead of
deriving it from the skb's control block. Some callers of this function
such as icmp_send() pass the IP options structure from the skb's control
block as in these call paths the control block is known to be valid, but
other callers simply pass a zeroed structure.
A subsequent patch will need __icmp_send() to access more information
from the IPv4 control block (specifically, the ifindex of the input
interface). As a preparation for this change, change the function to
take the IPv4 control block structure as an argument instead of the IP
options structure. This makes the function similar to its IPv6
counterpart that already takes the IPv6 control block structure as an
argument.
No functional changes intended.

The icmp_ndo_send function was originally introduced to ensure proper
rate limiting when icmp_send is called by a network device driver,
where the packet's source address may have already been transformed
by SNAT.
However, the original implementation only considers the
IP_CT_DIR_ORIGINAL direction for SNAT and always replaced the packet's
source address with that of the original-direction tuple. This causes
two problems:
1. For SNAT:
Reply-direction packets were incorrectly translated using the source
address of the CT original direction, even though no translation is
required.
2. For DNAT:
Reply-direction packets were not handled at all. In DNAT, the original
direction's destination is translated. Therefore, in the reply
direction the source address must be set to the reply-direction
source, so rate limiting works as intended.
Fix this by using the connection direction to select the correct tuple
for source address translation, and adjust the pre-checks to handle
reply-direction packets in case of DNAT.
Additionally, wrap the `ct->status` access in READ_ONCE(). This avoids
possible KCSAN reports about concurrent updates to `ct->status`.

Convert the ->flowic_tos field of struct flowi_common from __u8 to
dscp_t, rename it ->flowic_dscp and propagate these changes to struct
flowi and struct flowi4.
We've had several bugs in the past where ECN bits could interfere with
IPv4 routing, because these bits were not properly cleared when setting
->flowi4_tos. These bugs should be fixed now and the dscp_t type has
been introduced to ensure that variables carrying DSCP values don't
accidentally have any ECN bits set. Several variables and structure
fields have been converted to dscp_t already, but the main IPv4 routing
structure, struct flowi4, is still using a __u8. To avoid any future
regression, this patch converts it to dscp_t.
There are many users to convert at once. Fortunately, around half of
->flowi4_tos users already have a dscp_t value at hand, which they
currently convert to __u8 using inet_dscp_to_dsfield(). For all of
these users, we just need to drop that conversion.
But, although we try to do the __u8 <-> dscp_t conversions at the
boundaries of the network or of user space, some places still store
TOS/DSCP variables as __u8 in core networking code. Those can hardly be
converted either because the data structure is part of UAPI or because
the same variable or field is also used for handling ECN in other parts
of the code. In all of these cases where we don't have a dscp_t
variable at hand, we need to use inet_dsfield_to_dscp() when
interacting with ->flowi4_dscp.

Going forward skb_dst_set will assert that skb dst_entry
is empty during skb_dst_set. skb_dstref_steal is added to reset
existing entry without doing refcnt. skb_dstref_restore should
be used to restore the previous entry. Convert icmp_route_lookup
and ip_options_rcv_srr to these helpers. Add extra call to
skb_dstref_reset to icmp_route_lookup to clear the ip_route_input
entry.

forcing ping_rcv() to clone the skb.

All inet_getpeer() callers except ip4_frag_init() don't need
to acquire a permanent refcount on the inetpeer.
They can switch to full RCU protection.
Move the refcount_inc_not_zero() into ip4_frag_init(),
so that all the other callers no longer have to
perform a pair of expensive atomic operations on
a possibly contended cache line.
inet_putpeer() no longer needs to be exported.
After this patch, my DUT can receive 8,400,000 UDP packets
per second targeting closed ports, using 50% less cpu cycles
than before.

icmp_route_lookup() create input routes for locally generated packets
while xfrm relookup ICMP traffic.Then it will set input route
(dst->out = ip_rt_bug) to skb for DESTUNREACH.
For ICMP err triggered by locally generated packets, dst->dev of output
route is loopback. Generally, xfrm relookup verification is not required
on loopback interfaces (net.ipv4.conf.lo.disable_xfrm = 1).
Skip icmp relookup for locally generated packets to fix it.

Use ip4h_dscp() to get the DSCP from the IPv4 header, then convert the
dscp_t value to __u8 with inet_dscp_to_dsfield().
Then, when we'll convert .flowi4_tos to dscp_t, we'll just have to drop
the inet_dscp_to_dsfield() call.

Pass a dscp_t variable to ip_route_input(), instead of a plain u8, to
prevent accidental setting of ECN bits in ->flowi4_tos.
Callers of ip_route_input() to consider are:
* input_action_end_dx4_finish() and input_action_end_dt4() in
net/ipv6/seg6_local.c. These functions set the tos parameter to 0,
which is already a valid dscp_t value, so they don't need to be
adjusted for the new prototype.
* icmp_route_lookup(), which already has a dscp_t variable to pass as
parameter. We just need to remove the inet_dscp_to_dsfield()
conversion.
* br_nf_pre_routing_finish(), ip_options_rcv_srr() and ip4ip6_err(),
which get the DSCP directly from IPv4 headers. Define a helper to
read the .tos field of struct iphdr as dscp_t, so that these
function don't have to do the conversion manually.
While there, declare *iph as const in br_nf_pre_routing_finish(),
declare its local variables in reverse-christmas-tree order and move
the "err = ip_route_input()" assignment out of the conditional to avoid
checkpatch warning.

Pass a dscp_t variable to icmp_route_lookup(), instead of a plain u8,

The function is called to resolve a route for an ICMP message that is
sent in response to a situation. Based on the type of the generated ICMP
message, the function is either passed the DS field of the packet that
generated the ICMP message or a DS field that is derived from it.
Unmask the upper DSCP bits before resolving and output route via
ip_route_output_key_hash() so that in the future the lookup could be
performed according to the full DSCP value.

ICMP messages are ratelimited :
After the blamed commits, the two rate limiters are applied in this order:
1) host wide ratelimit (icmp_global_allow())
2) Per destination ratelimit (inetpeer based)
In order to avoid side-channels attacks, we need to apply
the per destination check first.
This patch makes the following change :
1) icmp_global_allow() checks if the host wide limit is reached.
But credits are not yet consumed. This is deferred to 3)
2) The per destination limit is checked/updated.
This might add a new node in inetpeer tree.
3) icmp_global_consume() consumes tokens if prior operations succeeded.
This means that host wide ratelimit is still effective
in keeping inetpeer tree small even under DDOS.
As a bonus, I removed icmp_global.lock as the fast path
can use a lock-free operation.

Align the ICMP code to other callers of ip_route_input() and pass the
full DS field. In the future this will allow us to perform a route
lookup according to the full DSCP value.
No functional changes intended since the upper DSCP bits are masked when
comparing against the TOS selectors in FIB rules and routes.

Introduce a tracepoint for icmp_send, which can help users to get more
detail information conveniently when icmp abnormal events happen.
1. Giving an usecase example:

When an application experiences packet loss due to an unreachable UDP
destination port, the kernel will send an exception message through the
icmp_send function. By adding a trace point for icmp_send, developers or
system administrators can obtain detailed information about the UDP
packet loss, including the type, code, source address, destination address,
source port, and destination port. This facilitates the trouble-shooting
of UDP packet loss issues especially for those network-service
applications.
2. Operation Instructions:

Switch to the tracing directory.

Filter for destination port unreachable.

e8dfd42c17 ("ipv6: introduce dst_rt6_info() helper")
This patch does a similar change for IPv4.
Instead of (struct rtable *)dst casts, we can use :

Patch is smaller than IPv6 one, because IPv4 has skb_rtable() helper.

First problem is a double call to __in_dev_get_rcu(), because
the second one could return NULL.

Preparation patch, extra arg is not used.
No functional changes intended.
This is needed to replace the xfrm session decode functions with
the flow dissector.
skb_flow_dissect() cannot be used as-is, because it attempts to deduce the
'struct net' to use for bpf program fetch from skb->sk or skb->dev, but
xfrm code path can see skbs that have neither sk or dev filled in.
So either flow dissector needs to try harder, e.g. by also trying
skb->dst->dev, or we have to pass the struct net explicitly.
Passing the struct net doesn't look too bad to me, most places
already have it available or can derive it from the output device.

There are multiple ICMP rate limiting mechanisms:
* Global limits: net.ipv4.icmp_msgs_burst/icmp_msgs_per_sec
* v4 per-host limits: net.ipv4.icmp_ratelimit/ratemask
* v6 per-host limits: net.ipv6.icmp_ratelimit/ratemask
However, when ICMP output is limited, there is no way to tell
which limit has been hit or even if the limits are responsible
for the lack of ICMP output.
Add counters for each of the cases above. As we are within
local_bh_disable(), use the __INC stats variant.
