from SJ Park integrates DAMON's probe_hits attribute counter into the
pseudo moving sum infrastructure, enabling real-time, online monitoring
without waiting for full aggregation intervals.
- The 18 patch series "mm: Some cleanups for page allocator APIs" from
Brendan Jackman simplifies and refactors the page allocator entry points
and flags by unifying allocation paths, adding internal alloc_flags
arguments, and eliminating redundant __ prefixed alloc_pages variants.
- The 5 patch series "Fix incorrect access of hugetlb pte entries" from
Dev Jain enforces the consistent use of huge_ptep_get() instead of
ptep_get() for HugeTLB entries and fixes an unaligned address issue in
arm64's huge_ptep_get() implementation.
- The 8 patch series "mm/damon: validate all parameters in the core"
from SJ Park consolidates parameter validation into the DAMON core
specifically within damon_start() and damon_commit_ctx() to centralize
error checking, eliminate caller-side redundant checks and to improve
maintenance efficiency.
- The 3 patch series "tools/mm/page_owner_sort: fix filtering and

for clearer return semantics, fixes per-record allocation memory leaks
and bounds output copies in search_pattern() to address an existing
buffer issue.
- The 4 patch series "memcg: bail out reclaim when memcg is dying" from
Jiayuan Chen mitigates a system-wide stall which occurs when a cgroup is
removed while one of its memory control files is doing synchronous
reclaim.
- The 5 patch series "mm/memory-failure: add panic option for
unrecoverable pages" from Breno Leitao introduces an opt-in
vm.panic_on_unrecoverable_memory_failure sysctl that immediately panics
the kernel on unrecoverable memory errors in kernel-owned pages to
preserve error context and prevent delayed, silent data corruption.
- The 11 patch series "mm/damon: refactor damon_{start,stop,commit}()
for simple error handling" from SJ Park refactors the DAMON core API
functions to guarantee that all contexts are fully stopped when
damon_start(), damon_stop(), or damon_commit() fail, eliminating the
need for complex and error-prone caller-side cleanup code.
- The 5 patch series "Keep tail page private zero at free and folio
split" from Zi Yan adds checks to ensure tail_page->private is zero when
freeing compound or high-order pages and when promoting tail pages
during large folio splits. By validating these fields at free and split
time, it allows the removal of redundant private field clearing inside
prep_compound_tail().
- The 4 patch series "mm: drop redundant lru_add_drain in anon folio
reuse paths" from Barry Song eliminates redundant lru_add_drain() calls
in wp_can_reuse_anon_folio() and do_swap_page() to reduce LRU lock
contention and system overhead.
By validating folio refcounts against the LRU cache before draining
and removing unnecessary drains in the swap path, it achieves up to a
30.5% reduction in drain calls during heavy swap workloads.
- The 3 patch series "mm: clean up folio LRU and swap declarations" from
Jianyue Wu reorganizes folio LRU and swap code by relocating
page-cluster state to mm/swap_state.c, renaming mm/swap.c to mm/folio.c,
and moving MM-internal reclaim declarations into mm/internal.h.
- The 15 patch series "userfaultfd: working set tracking for VM guest
memory" from Kiryl Shutsemau adds userfaultfd support for tracking the
working set of VM guest memory, so a VMM can identify hot pages and
reclaim cold ones to tiered or remote storage.
- The 10 patch series "mm: remove CONFIG_HAVE_BOOTMEM_INFO_NODE (Part
2)" from David Hildenbrand removes the remaining pieces of
CONFIG_HAVE_BOOTMEM_INFO_NODE, performing some smaller cleanups around
freeing of reserved vmemmap pages on the way.
- The 7 patch series "mm/damon: update probe hits for runtime parameter
commits" from SJ Park ensures that DAMON's probe_hits attribute counter
is properly updated when monitoring intervals are changed at runtime,
matching the behavior of nr_accesses. To achieve this, it refactors and
renames existing helper functions for shared use, applies the updates to
probe_hits, and handles edge cases in damon_probe_hits_mvsum() to
maintain measurement accuracy.
- The 3 patch series "KSM: performance optimizations for rmap_walk_ksm"
from xu xin resolves a severe KSM reverse-mapping performance bottleneck
where thousands of split VMAs sharing a single anon_vma cause extended
lock contention. By adding an interval-filtering check during the rmap
walk, it reduces worst-case anon_vma lock hold times from over 500ms
down to under 2ms, preventing application freezes and latency spikes
under memory pressure.
- The 3 patch series "mm: split a couple of headers from internal.h"
from Mike Rapoport splits declarations related to mm_init, memblock,
vmalloc and sparse into new headers.
- The 2 patch series "KSM: use linear_page_index in collect_procs_ksm()"
from xu xin applies the interval tree optimization from rmap_walk_ksm()
to collect_procs_ksm() to avoid iterating over non-matching VMAs during
KSM memory error handling. It hoists loop-invariant address
initialization and restricts the anon_vma_interval_tree_foreach walk to
a targeted page offset range, reducing redundant checks and improving
lookup efficiency.
- The 3 patch series "selftests/mm: avoid false failures in hugetlb and
KSM tests" from Sayali Patil fixes issues in the hugetlb and KSM MM
selftest categories that can report failures when the prerequisites for
the tests are not satisfied.
- The 19 patch series "mm/damon: introduce data attributes only
monitoring" from SJ Park introduces attribute-weighted region management
in DAMON, allowing users to prioritize specific data attributes (such as
page sizes or cgroups) over or instead of access monitoring.
By assigning weights to attribute probes, DAMON can completely disable
access tracking and adjust monitoring regions based on weighted
probe-hit counters to optimize monitoring quality for attribute-focused
workloads.
- The 8 patch series "mm/hmm: Add mmap lock-drop support for
userfaultfd-backed mappings" from Stanislav Kinsburskii extends
hmm_range_fault() to support userfaultfd-backed regions by allowing the
mmap lock to be dropped during fault handling via a new
hmm_range_fault_locked() helper.
By accepting a locked pointer and signaling retry status when lock
release occurs, it enables page fault resolution in userfaultfd regions
while preserving backward compatibility for existing callers.
- The 33 patch series "mm: make VMA page offset handling more
consistent" from Lorenzo Stoakes cleans up and standardizes how
vma->vm_pgoff is accessed and manipulated across file-backed and
anonymous mappings in the kernel.
It introduces dedicated helper functions such as vma_start_pgoff(),
vma_end_pgoff(), vma_set_pgoff() and linear_page_delta() while renaming
rmap interval tree helpers to better reflect their functionality.
These changes establish a cleaner foundation for future work that will
unify virtual page offset indexing for all anonymous and CoW'd folios.
- The 3 patch series "mm: handle device-private PMDs in walk callbacks"
from Usama Arif addresses kernel panics and state corruption caused by
MM walk callbacks reaching non-present device-private PMD swap entries
created during HMM migrations.
It ensures that functions which acquire pmd_trans_huge_lock() properly
recognize device-private PMDs instead of assuming a present THP or a
standard migration entry.
- The 5 patch series "mm/rmap: Refactor try_to_unmap_one" from Dev Jain
refactors try_to_unmap_one by modularizing Hugetlb, anonymous-lazyfree,
and anonymous-swapbacked logic into dedicated functions, laying the
structural groundwork for batched anonymous large folio unmapping.
- The 4 patch series "Docs/ABI/damon: sysfs ABI document fixes and
additions" from Song Hu fixes typos and fills in missing entries in the
DAMON sysfs ABI document.
- The 10 patch series "dax/kmem: atomic whole-device hotplug via sysfs"
from Gregory Price introduces an atomic sysfs state attribute and
supporting DAX/MM infrastructure to prevent userland races when
offlining and removing entire memory regions.
By adding an unplugged state alongside standard online modes, it
enables whole-device atomic hotplug control while preserving backward
compatibility.
- The 13 patch series "mm: convert more vm_flags_t users to vma_flags_t"
from Lorenzo Stoakes continues transitioning the kernel from the
deprecated vm_flags_t type to vma_flags_t across core memory management
infrastructure.
It replaces legacy type usage in core functions such as do_mmap(),
unmapped area allocation, mm->def_vma_flags, and VMA operations like
mlock, mprotect, and mremap.
- The 2 patch series "Two small patches to clean up mm/mm_slot.h" from
xu xin refactors mm_slot.h by introducing mm_slot_remove() to unify
duplicate slot deletion sequences in khugepaged and KSM. It also adds
code documentation explaining why mm_slot_lookup and mm_slot_insert must
remain as preprocessor macros rather than static inline functions.
- The 10 patch series "mm/damon/core: hide core-private struct fields"
from SJ Park cleans up DAMON core structures by consistently marking
internal-only fields with private: comment tags to prevent improper
direct access from outer layers.
It enforces encapsulation across core structures including
damon_region, damon_target, and damon_ctx and updates DAMON_SYSFS to
interact through approved access APIs instead of exposing raw struct
members.
- The 6 patch series "mm/damon: unurgent fixes for infinite loop, NULL
de-ref and races" from SJ Park addresses potential infinite loops, NULL
dereferences, and race conditions identified in DAMON.
It fixes an infinite loop triggered by extreme user configurations, a
NULL pointer dereference within unit tests and minor monitoring
accuracy degradation caused by subtle runtime races.
- The 2 patch series "mm/page_alloc: fixes for free_pages_nolock() on
RT/UP" from Brendan Jackman fixes an NMI safety flaw in
__free_frozen_pages() where freeing pages on non-SMP or PREEMPT_RT
kernels can bypass can_spin_trylock() checks via non-PCP or isolated
migration paths.
It also resolves potential kernel crashes and privilege escalation
risks triggered when BPF tracing runs in NMI context alongside memory
hotplug or large allocation frees.
- The 4 patch series "mm/page_alloc: couple of followups for recent
cleanups" from Brendan Jackman cleans up and updates page allocator
nomenclature, documentation, and debug assertions.
It aligns internal FPI_ flags with the public "nolock" naming
convention, removes outdated internal implementation details from
high-level page allocator comments, and eliminates obsolete VM_BUG_ON()
assertions in allocation paths.
- The 3 patch series "mm/mseal: further cleanups" from Lorenzo Stoakes
refactors and simplifies the mseal implementation by clarifying API
boundaries and removing unnecessary code complexity.
It replaces generic do_mseal() usage outside the syscall with a
dedicated mseal_mmap_page_zero() helper for MMAP_PAGE_ZERO, eliminates
mm_struct parameters to enforce that sealing applies only to
current->mm, and streamlines overall logic and comments with no
functional changes intended.
- The 4 patch series "mm/vmscan: fix swappiness=max and clean up
per-node proactive reclaim" from Ridong Chen resolves reclaim behavior
bugs and cleans up function parameters across memory reclaim paths.
It fixes swappiness=max in both standard reclaim and MGLRU so
unswappable anonymous memory no longer falls back to evicting page
cache, ensures reclaim_store() returns accurate error codes instead of
collapsing all failures into -EAGAIN, and removes the obsolete gfp_mask
parameter from __node_reclaim().
- The 6 patch series "mm: mincore: misc cleanups" from Kefeng Wang
cleans up and simplifies the mincore code. Most importantly, it removes
the historical special behavior that always reports VM_PFNMAP pages as
non-resident.
- The 2 patch series "mm/huge_memory: drop dead split helper variants"
from Kiryl Shutsemau implements two trivial cleanups in the folio split
API.
- The 7 patch series "mm/damon: fix uninitialized DAMOS field and kunit
exec expectation bugs" from SJ Park resolves minor operational and
testing bugs in DAMON identified by Sashiko. It initializes the
damos->last_applied field to prevent occasional efficiency degradation
and fixes invalid memory accesses in DAMON KUnit tests during test
failure handling.
- The 3 patch series "cleanup for stable_page_flags()" from Jinjiang Tu
cleans up and refactors stable_page_flags() used by /proc/kpageflags
without altering functionality.
It uses BIT_ULL() to prevent shift-overflow warnings on 64-bit flag
bits, converts folio-specific flag checks to standard folio_test_*()
helpers, and removes redundant CONFIG_PAGE_IDLE_FLAG handling.
- The 3 patch series "Batch unmap of uffd-wp file folios" from Dev Jain
extends batched folio unmapping support to file folios within
userfaultfd write-protect (uffd-wp) VMAs by adding batching capabilities
to pte_install_uffd_wp_if_needed().
This removes special-case restrictions on uffd-wp VMAs in
try_to_unmap_one(), significantly simplifying the function's control
flow and complexity.
- The 3 patch series "mm/early_ioremap: clarify and clean up
early_ioremap_reset()" from Sang-Heon Jeon clarifies and cleans up the
architecture-specific usage of __late_set_fixmap() and
__late_clear_fixmap() after early_ioremap_reset().
It adds explicit documentation regarding when early_ioremap_reset()
must be called and removes redundant macro definitions and reset calls
in the RISC-V and ARM64 architectures.
- The 4 patch series "mm: fix reclaim storms in defrag_mode" from
Johannes Weiner addresses severe performance regressions, swap storms,
and spurious OOMs caused by vm.defrag_mode=1 under high memory pressure
in Meta production.
It updates the page allocator slowpath so non-movable allocation
requests actively trigger direct reclaim and direct compaction at
pageblock_order scale, allowing them to claim whole pageblocks rather
than spinning unproductively.
- The 2 patch series "zram: lockmap tweaks" from Sebastian Siewior
optimizes and fixes lockdep tracking for zram devices by consolidating
per-entry lockmaps and isolating lock classes across multiple instances.
It reduces memory overhead by replacing per-entry lockdep_map instances
with a single map per struct zram, and assigns a dynamic lock_class_key
to each instance to prevent false deadlock reports when different zram
devices are backed by distinct filesystems.

performing some smaller cleanups around freeing of reserved vmemmap
pages on the way.
- "mm/damon: update probe hits for runtime parameter commits" (SJ Park)
Ensure that DAMON's probe_hits attribute counter is properly updated
when monitoring intervals are changed at runtime, matching the
behavior of nr_accesses. To achieve this, it refactors and renames
existing helper functions for shared use, applies the updates to
probe_hits, and handles edge cases in damon_probe_hits_mvsum() to
maintain measurement accuracy.
- "KSM: performance optimizations for rmap_walk_ksm" (xu xin)
Resolve a severe KSM reverse-mapping performance bottleneck where
thousands of split VMAs sharing a single anon_vma cause extended lock
contention.
By adding an interval-filtering check during the rmap walk, it
reduces worst-case anon_vma lock hold times from over 500ms down to
under 2ms, preventing application freezes and latency spikes under
memory pressure.
- "mm: split a couple of headers from internal.h" (Mike Rapoport)
Split declarations related to mm_init, memblock, vmalloc and sparse
into new headers
- "KSM: use linear_page_index in collect_procs_ksm()" (xu xin)
Apply the interval tree optimization from rmap_walk_ksm() to
collect_procs_ksm() to avoid iterating over non-matching VMAs during
KSM memory error handling.
It hoists loop-invariant address initialization and restricts the
anon_vma_interval_tree_foreach walk to a targeted page offset range,
reducing redundant checks and improving lookup efficiency.
- "selftests/mm: avoid false failures in hugetlb and KSM tests" (Sayali
Patil)
Fix issues in the hugetlb and KSM MM selftest categories that can
report failures when the prerequisites for the tests are not
satisfied
- "mm/damon: introduce data attributes only monitoring" (SJ Park)
Introduce attribute-weighted region management in DAMON, allowing
users to prioritize specific data attributes (such as page sizes or
cgroups) over or instead of access monitoring.
By assigning weights to attribute probes, DAMON can completely
disable access tracking and adjust monitoring regions based on
weighted probe-hit counters to optimize monitoring quality for
attribute-focused workloads.
- "mm/hmm: Add mmap lock-drop support for userfaultfd-backed mappings"
(Stanislav Kinsburskii)
Extend hmm_range_fault() to support userfaultfd-backed regions by
allowing the mmap lock to be dropped during fault handling via a new
hmm_range_fault_locked() helper.
By accepting a locked pointer and signaling retry status when lock
release occurs, it enables page fault resolution in userfaultfd
regions while preserving backward compatibility for existing callers.
- "mm: make VMA page offset handling more consistent" (Lorenzo Stoakes)
Clean up and standardize how vma->vm_pgoff is accessed and
manipulated across file-backed and anonymous mappings in the kernel
It introduces dedicated helper functions such as vma_start_pgoff(),
vma_end_pgoff(), vma_set_pgoff() and linear_page_delta() while
renaming rmap interval tree helpers to better reflect their
functionality.
These changes establish a cleaner foundation for future work that
will unify virtual page offset indexing for all anonymous and CoW'd
folios.
- "mm: handle device-private PMDs in walk callbacks" (Usama Arif)
Address kernel panics and state corruption caused by MM walk
callbacks reaching non-present device-private PMD swap entries
created during HMM migrations
It ensures that functions which acquire pmd_trans_huge_lock()
properly recognize device-private PMDs instead of assuming a present
THP or a standard migration entry.
- "mm/rmap: Refactor try_to_unmap_one" (Dev Jain)
Refactor try_to_unmap_one by modularizing Hugetlb,
anonymous-lazyfree, and anonymous-swapbacked logic into dedicated
functions, laying the structural groundwork for batched anonymous
large folio unmapping.
- "Docs/ABI/damon: sysfs ABI document fixes and additions" (Song Hu)
Fix typos and fills in missing entries in the DAMON sysfs ABI
document
- "dax/kmem: atomic whole-device hotplug via sysfs" (Gregory Price)
Introduce an atomic sysfs state attribute and supporting DAX/MM
infrastructure to prevent userland races when offlining and removing
entire memory regions
By adding an unplugged state alongside standard online modes, it
enables whole-device atomic hotplug control while preserving backward
compatibility.
- "mm: convert more vm_flags_t users to vma_flags_t" (Lorenzo Stoakes)
Continue transitioning the kernel from the deprecated vm_flags_t type
to vma_flags_t across core memory management infrastructure.
It replaces legacy type usage in core functions such as do_mmap(),
unmapped area allocation, mm->def_vma_flags, and VMA operations like
mlock, mprotect, and mremap.
- "Two small patches to clean up mm/mm_slot.h" (xu xin)
Refactor mm_slot.h by introducing mm_slot_remove() to unify duplicate
slot deletion sequences in khugepaged and KSM. It also adds code
documentation explaining why mm_slot_lookup and mm_slot_insert must
remain as preprocessor macros rather than static inline functions.
- "mm/damon/core: hide core-private struct fields" (SJ Park)
Clean up DAMON core structures by consistently marking internal-only
fields with private: comment tags to prevent improper direct access
from outer layers.
It enforces encapsulation across core structures including
damon_region, damon_target, and damon_ctx and updates DAMON_SYSFS to
interact through approved access APIs instead of exposing raw struct
members.
- "mm/damon: unurgent fixes for infinite loop, NULL de-ref and races"
(SJ Park)
Address potential infinite loops, NULL dereferences, and race
conditions identified in DAMON
It fixes an infinite loop triggered by extreme user configurations, a
NULL pointer dereference within unit tests and minor monitoring
accuracy degradation caused by subtle runtime races.
- "mm/page_alloc: fixes for free_pages_nolock() on RT/UP" (Brendan
Jackman)
Fix an NMI safety flaw in __free_frozen_pages() where freeing pages
on non-SMP or PREEMPT_RT kernels can bypass can_spin_trylock() checks
via non-PCP or isolated migration paths.
It also resolves potential kernel crashes and privilege escalation
risks triggered when BPF tracing runs in NMI context alongside memory
hotplug or large allocation frees.
- "mm/page_alloc: couple of followups for recent cleanups" (Brendan
Jackman)
Clean up and update page allocator nomenclature, documentation, and
debug assertions.
It aligns internal FPI_ flags with the public "nolock" naming
convention, removes outdated internal implementation details from
high-level page allocator comments, and eliminates obsolete
VM_BUG_ON() assertions in allocation paths.
- "mm/mseal: further cleanups" (Lorenzo Stoakes)
Refactor and simplify the mseal implementation by clarifying API
boundaries and removing unnecessary code complexity.
It replaces generic do_mseal() usage outside the syscall with a
dedicated mseal_mmap_page_zero() helper for MMAP_PAGE_ZERO,
eliminates mm_struct parameters to enforce that sealing applies only
to current->mm, and streamlines overall logic and comments with no
functional changes intended.
- "mm/vmscan: fix swappiness=max and clean up per-node proactive
reclaim" (Ridong Chen)
Resolve reclaim behavior bugs and clean up function parameters across
memory reclaim paths
It fixes swappiness=max in both standard reclaim and MGLRU so
unswappable anonymous memory no longer falls back to evicting page
cache, ensures reclaim_store() returns accurate error codes instead
of collapsing all failures into -EAGAIN, and removes the obsolete
gfp_mask parameter from __node_reclaim().
- "mm: mincore: misc cleanups" (Kefeng Wang)
Clean up and simplifies the mincore code. Most importantly, it
removes the historical special behavior that always reports VM_PFNMAP
pages as non-resident.
- "mm/huge_memory: drop dead split helper variants" (Kiryl Shutsemau)
Two trivial cleanups in the folio split API
- "mm/damon: fix uninitialized DAMOS field and kunit exec expectation
bugs" (SJ Park)
Resolve minor operational and testing bugs in DAMON identified by
Sashiko. It initializes the damos->last_applied field to prevent
occasional efficiency degradation and fixes invalid memory accesses
in DAMON KUnit tests during test failure handling.
- "cleanup for stable_page_flags()" (Jinjiang Tu)
Clean up and refactor stable_page_flags() used by /proc/kpageflags
without altering functionality.
It uses BIT_ULL() to prevent shift-overflow warnings on 64-bit flag
bits, converts folio-specific flag checks to standard folio_test_*()
helpers, and removes redundant CONFIG_PAGE_IDLE_FLAG handling.
- "Batch unmap of uffd-wp file folios" (Dev Jain)
Extend batched folio unmapping support to file folios within
userfaultfd write-protect (uffd-wp) VMAs by adding batching
capabilities to pte_install_uffd_wp_if_needed().
This removes special-case restrictions on uffd-wp VMAs in
try_to_unmap_one(), significantly simplifying the function's control
flow and complexity.
- "mm/early_ioremap: clarify and clean up early_ioremap_reset()"
(Sang-Heon Jeon)
Clarify and clean up the architecture-specific usage of
__late_set_fixmap() and __late_clear_fixmap() after
early_ioremap_reset()
It adds explicit documentation regarding when early_ioremap_reset()
must be called and removes redundant macro definitions and reset
calls in the RISC-V and ARM64 architectures.
- "mm: fix reclaim storms in defrag_mode" (Johannes Weiner)
Address severe performance regressions, swap storms, and spurious
OOMs caused by vm.defrag_mode=1 under high memory pressure in Meta
production
It updates the page allocator slowpath so non-movable allocation
requests actively trigger direct reclaim and direct compaction at
pageblock_order scale, allowing them to claim whole pageblocks rather
than spinning unproductively.
- "zram: lockmap tweaks" (Sebastian Siewior)
Optimize and fix lockdep tracking for zram devices by consolidating
per-entry lockmaps and isolate lock classes across multiple instances
This reduces memory overhead by replacing per-entry lockdep_map
instances with a single map per struct zram, and assigns a dynamic
lock_class_key to each instance to prevent false deadlock reports
when different zram devices are backed by distinct filesystems.

Pull misc vfs updates from Christian Brauner:
"Bigger cleanups:
- The lockref dead-count handling is tidied up.
The open-coded check for a count below zero as the dead marker
relies on information the caller should not have.
- make put_mnt_ns() leave mounts connected. Destroying a mount
namespace disconnected its mounts from their mount points. So a
file descriptor still open on the parent of a mount point could be
used to peek under it.
Locked mounts were already kept connected to prevent exactly that.
But a mount is only locked when its tree is copied across a user
namespace boundary. So a mount namespace set up by a privileged
component had no locked mounts and its mounts were disconnected.
Passing UMOUNT_CONNECTED keeps every mount connected and prevents
that bug.
- vfs_prepare_mode() passes S_IFDIR for directories. I meant to fix
that ago but didn't get to it. So now someone finally did it.
This kills the exception where the mode could be 0 when a directory
was created whereas every other creation operation passed it
explicitly already.
- move long delayed work for ufs, jffs2, hfsplus, hfs and affs from
the per-cpu system_long_wq to the new unbound system_dfl_long_wq.
None of that work relies on per-cpu state and the work item is
enqueued with queue_delayed_work() whose timer is global anyway. So
it may as well benefit from scheduler task placement.
Smaller fixes and cleanups:
- unlock_buffer() and journal_end_buffer_io_sync() use
clear_and_wake_up_bit()
- the pipe page pools are unified into a single per-pipe pool and the
extra wake_up(rd_wait) is limited to EPOLLET consumers
- eventpoll now computes its timer slack lazily in ep_poll()
- shrink_dcache_for_umount() keeps making progress on busy roots
- excess xarray nodes are freed in clear_inode()
- romfs detects hard link cycles
- the user path of nested backing files is fixed
- pidfd holds exec_update_lock around the namespace ioctl
- non-memcg-aware nr_cached_objects is skipped during memcg slab
shrink
- iomap_write_iter() always returns status
- mangle_path() is renamed to seq_mangle_path()
- inode timestamp accessors are annotated
- new regression test for pipe->poll_usage.
- a few documentation, kernel-doc and selftest fixes"

hugetlb: make hugepage_put_subpool() tolerate NULL
Both callers of hugepage_put_subpool() check whether the subpool pointer is NULL before calling it. Move the NULL check into hugepage_put_subpool() so callers can use the helper unconditionally. This is a follow-up cleanup after using hugepage_put_subpool() from the hugetlbfs_fill_super() failure path. hugetlbfs: release subpool on fill_super failure
hugetlbfs_fill_super() allocates a hugepage subpool when size or min_size
mount options are specified. hugepage_new_subpool() may also reserve huge
pages for min_size.
If root dentry creation fails after the subpool is created, the failure
path frees the subpool with kfree(). This bypasses hugepage_put_subpool()
and can leave min_size reservations charged.
Use hugepage_put_subpool() on the failure path, matching the normal
put_super path.

mm: convert __get_unmapped_area() to use vma_flags_t
Update __get_unmapped_area() to be parameterised by vma_flags_t rather than vm_flags_t as part of the effort to move VMA flags from a system word to a bitmap. We cascade the changes up to arch_get_unmapped_area_topdown() and arch_get_unmapped_area(), where, for now, we use vma_flags_to_legacy() in order to propagate the VMA flags. mm/rmap: rename vma_interval_tree_*() to mapping_rmap_tree_*()
The family of vma_interval_tree_() functions manipulate the address_space (which, of course, is generally referred to as 'mapping') reverse mapping, but are named the 'VMA' interval tree. VMAs may be mapped by an anon_vma, an address_space, or both. Therefore calling the mapping interval tree a 'VMA' interval tree is rather confusing. This is also inconsistent with the anon_vma_interval_tree_*() functions which explicitly reference the rmap object to which they pertain. Rename the vma_interval_tree_*() functions to mapping_rmap_tree_*() to correct this. We will rename the anon rmap functions similarly in a subsequent patch. No functional change intended. mm/rmap: parameterise vma_interval_tree_*() by address_space
The file-backed mapping interval tree functions vma_interval_tree_*() accept a raw rb_root_cached pointer to determine the tree in which they are operating. However, in each case, this is always associated with an address_space data type. So simply pass a pointer to that instead to simplify the code, and more clearly differentiate between these operations and those concerning anonymous mappings. While we're here, make the generated interval tree functions static as they do not need to be used externally (any previously existing external users have now been removed). We also rename VMA parameters from 'node' to 'vma' as calling this a node is simply confusing, update the input index types to pgoff_t since they reference page offsets and rename the parameters to pgoff_start and pgoff_last. Remove excl arg to ->create inode_operation
The only time that 'false' is passed as the 'excl' arg to the ->create inode_operation is in lookup_open() when ->atomic_open is not provided by the parent directory. *all* directory inode_operations which do not have ->atomic_open completely ignore the 'excl' arg. Therefore we don't need the 'excl' arg. Those few ->create operations which pay attention to the arg are only ever called with a value of 'true'. We remove that arg and change all ->create operations to behave as those thhe arg were 'true'. mm: reintroduce vma_desc_test() as a singular flag test
Similar to vma_flags_test(), we have previously renamed vma_desc_test() to vma_desc_test_any(). Now that is in place, we can reintroduce vma_desc_test() to explicitly check for a single VMA flag. As with vma_flags_test(), this is useful as often flag tests are against a single flag, and vma_desc_test_any(flags, VMA_READ_BIT) reads oddly and potentially causes confusion. As with vma_flags_test() a combination of sparse and vma_flags_t being a struct means that users cannot misuse this function without it getting flagged. Also update the VMA tests to reflect this change. mm: rename VMA flag helpers to be more readable
Patch series "mm: vma flag tweaks". The ongoing work around introducing non-system word VMA flags has introduced a number of helper functions and macros to make life easier when working with these flags and to make conversions from the legacy use of VM_xxx flags more straightforward. This series improves these to reduce confusion as to what they do and to improve consistency and readability. Firstly the series renames vma_flags_test() to vma_flags_test_any() to make it abundantly clear that this function tests whether any of the flags are set (as opposed to vma_flags_test_all()). It then renames vma_desc_test_flags() to vma_desc_test_any() for the same reason. Note that we drop the 'flags' suffix here, as vma_desc_test_any_flags() would be cumbersome and 'test' implies a flag test. Similarly, we rename vma_test_all_flags() to vma_test_all() for consistency. Next, we have a couple of instances (erofs, zonefs) where we are now testing for vma_desc_test_any(desc, VMA_SHARED_BIT) && vma_desc_test_any(desc, VMA_MAYWRITE_BIT). This is silly, so this series introduces vma_desc_test_all() so these callers can instead invoke vma_desc_test_all(desc, VMA_SHARED_BIT, VMA_MAYWRITE_BIT). We then observe that quite a few instances of vma_flags_test_any() and vma_desc_test_any() are in fact only testing against a single flag. Using the _any() variant here is just confusing - 'any' of single item reads strangely and is liable to cause confusion. So in these instances the series reintroduces vma_flags_test() and vma_desc_test() as helpers which test against a single flag. The fact that vma_flags_t is a struct and that vma_flag_t utilises sparse to avoid confusion with vm_flags_t makes it impossible for a user to misuse these helpers without it getting flagged somewhere. The series also updates __mk_vma_flags() and functions invoked by it to explicitly mark them always inline to match expectation and to be consistent with other VMA flag helpers. It also renames vma_flag_set() to vma_flags_set_flag() (a function only used by __mk_vma_flags()) to be consistent with other VMA flag helpers. Finally it updates the VMA tests for each of these changes, and introduces explicit tests for vma_flags_test() and vma_desc_test() to assert that they behave as expected. This patch (of 6): On reflection, it's confusing to have vma_flags_test() and vma_desc_test_flags() test whether any comma-separated VMA flag bit is set, while also having vma_flags_test_all() and vma_test_all_flags() separately test whether all flags are set. Firstly, rename vma_flags_test() to vma_flags_test_any() to eliminate this confusion. Secondly, since the VMA descriptor flag functions are becoming rather cumbersome, prefer vma_desc_test*() to vma_desc_test_flags*(), and also rename vma_desc_test_flags() to vma_desc_test_any(). Finally, rename vma_test_all_flags() to vma_test_all() to keep the VMA-specific helper consistent with the VMA descriptor naming convention and to help avoid confusion vs. vma_flags_test_all(). While we're here, also update whitespace to be consistent in helper functions. Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org> |

mm: update hugetlbfs to use VMA flags on mmap_prepare
In order to update all mmap_prepare users to utilising the new VMA flags type vma_flags_t and associated helper functions, we start by updating hugetlbfs which has a lot of additional logic that requires updating to make this change. This is laying the groundwork for eliminating the vm_flags_t from struct vm_area_desc and using vma_flags_t only, which further lays the ground for removing the deprecated vm_flags_t type altogether. No functional changes intended. Some filesystems use a kinda-sorta controlled dentry refcount leak to pin
dentries of created objects in dcache (and undo it when removing those).
Reference is grabbed and not released, but it's not actually _stored_
anywhere. That works, but it's hard to follow and verify; among other
things, we have no way to tell _which_ of the increments is intended
to be an unpaired one. Worse, on removal we need to decide whether
the reference had already been dropped, which can be non-trivial if
that removal is on umount and we need to figure out if this dentry is
pinned due to e.g. unlink() not done. Usually that is handled by using
kill_litter_super() as ->kill_sb(), but there are open-coded special
cases of the same (consider e.g. /proc/self).
Things get simpler if we introduce a new dentry flag (DCACHE_PERSISTENT)
marking those "leaked" dentries. Having it set claims responsibility
for +1 in refcount.
The end result this series is aiming for:
* get these unbalanced dget() and dput() replaced with new primitives that
would, in addition to adjusting refcount, set and clear persistency flag.
* instead of having kill_litter_super() mess with removing the remaining
"leaked" references (e.g. for all tmpfs files that hadn't been removed
prior to umount), have the regular shrink_dcache_for_umount() strip
DCACHE_PERSISTENT of all dentries, dropping the corresponding
reference if it had been set. After that kill_litter_super() becomes
an equivalent of kill_anon_super().
Doing that in a single step is not feasible - it would affect too many places
in too many filesystems. It has to be split into a series.
This work has really started early in 2024; quite a few preliminary pieces
have already gone into mainline. This chunk is finally getting to the
meat of that stuff - infrastructure and most of the conversions to it.
Some pieces are still sitting in the local branches, but the bulk of
that stuff is here.

mm/hugetlbfs: update hugetlbfs to use mmap_prepare
Since we can now perform actions after the VMA is established via mmap_prepare, use desc->action_success_hook to set up the hugetlb lock once the VMA is setup. We also make changes throughout hugetlbfs to make this possible. Note that we must hide newly established hugetlb VMAs from the rmap until the operation is entirely complete as we establish a hugetlb lock during VMA setup that can be raced by rmap users. mm: consistently use current->mm in mm_get_unmapped_area()
mm_get_unmapped_area() is a wrapper around arch_get_unmapped_area() / arch_get_unmapped_area_topdown(), both of which search current->mm for some free space. Neither take an mm_struct - they implicitly operate on current->mm. But the wrapper takes an mm_struct and uses it to decide whether to search bottom up or top down. All callers pass in current->mm for this, so everything is working consistently. But it feels like an accident waiting to happen; eventually someone will call that function with a different mm, expecting to find free space in it, but what gets returned is free space in the current mm. So let's simplify by removing the parameter and have the wrapper use current->mm to decide which end to start at. Now everything is consistent and self-documenting. hugetlbfs: move lock assertions after early returns in huge_pmd_unshare()
When hugetlb_vmdelete_list() processes VMAs during truncate operations, it may encounter VMAs where huge_pmd_unshare() is called without the required shareable lock. This triggers an assertion failure in hugetlb_vma_assert_locked(). The previous fix in commit |

mm/hugetlb: fix folio is still mapped when deleted
Migration may be raced with fallocating hole. remove_inode_single_folio
will unmap the folio if the folio is still mapped. However, it's called
without folio lock. If the folio is migrated and the mapped pte has been
converted to migration entry, folio_mapped() returns false, and won't
unmap it. Due to extra refcount held by remove_inode_single_folio,
migration fails, restores migration entry to normal pte, and the folio is
mapped again. As a result, we triggered BUG in filemap_unaccount_folio.
The log is as follows:

treewide: remove MIGRATEPAGE_SUCCESS
At this point MIGRATEPAGE_SUCCESS is misnamed for all folio users, and now that we remove MIGRATEPAGE_UNMAP, it's really the only "success" return value that the code uses and expects. Let's just get rid of MIGRATEPAGE_SUCCESS completely and just use "0" for success. without tripping over the races inherent in operating on the live
pageframe directly.
- The 6 patch series "use per-vma locks for /proc/pid/maps reads" from
Suren Baghdasaryan addresses the large contention issues which can be
triggered by reads from that procfs file. Latencies are reduced by more

volatile("" : "+r" (XXX));" and some cleanup" from wang lian does some
cleanup work in the selftests code.

Stoakes extends the mremap() selftest in several ways, including adding
more checking of Lorenzo's recently added "permit mremap() move of
multiple VMAs" feature.

Pull misc VFS updates from Christian Brauner:
"This contains the usual selections of misc updates for this cycle.
Features:
- Add ext4 IOCB_DONTCACHE support
This refactors the address_space_operations write_begin() and
write_end() callbacks to take const struct kiocb * as their first
argument, allowing IOCB flags such as IOCB_DONTCACHE to propagate
to the filesystem's buffered I/O path.
Ext4 is updated to implement handling of the IOCB_DONTCACHE flag
and advertises support via the FOP_DONTCACHE file operation flag.
Additionally, the i915 driver's shmem write paths are updated to
bypass the legacy write_begin/write_end interface in favor of
directly calling write_iter() with a constructed synchronous kiocb.
Another i915 change replaces a manual write loop with
kernel_write() during GEM shmem object creation.
Cleanups:
- don't duplicate vfs_open() in kernel_file_open()
- proc_fd_getattr(): don't bother with S_ISDIR() check
- fs/ecryptfs: replace snprintf with sysfs_emit in show function
- vfs: Remove unnecessary list_for_each_entry_safe() from
evict_inodes()
- filelock: add new locks_wake_up_waiter() helper
- fs: Remove three arguments from block_write_end()
- VFS: change old_dir and new_dir in struct renamedata to dentrys
- netfs: Remove unused declaration netfs_queue_write_request()
Fixes:
- eventpoll: Fix semi-unbounded recursion
- eventpoll: fix sphinx documentation build warning
- fs/read_write: Fix spelling typo
- fs: annotate data race between poll_schedule_timeout() and
pollwake()
- fs/pipe: set FMODE_NOWAIT in create_pipe_files()
- docs/vfs: update references to i_mutex to i_rwsem
- fs/buffer: remove comment about hard sectorsize
- fs/buffer: remove the min and max limit checks in __getblk_slow()

mount changes. I've got more stuff in the local tree, but
this is getting too much for one merge window as it is.
* mount hash conflicts rudiments are gone now - we do not allow
multiple mounts with the same parent/mountpoint to be
hashed at the same time.
* struct mount changes
mnt_umounting is gone;
mnt_slave_list/mnt_slave is an hlist now;
overmounts are kept track of by explicit pointer in mount;
a bunch of flags moved out of mnt_flags to a new field,
with only namespace_sem for protection;
mnt_expiry is protected by mount_lock now (instead of
namespace_sem);
MNT_LOCKED is used only for mounts that need to remain
attached to their parents to prevent mountpoint exposure -
no more overloading it for absolute roots;
all mnt_list uses are transient now - it's used only to
represent temporary sets during umount_tree().
* mount refcounting change
children no longer pin parents for any mounts, whether they'd
passed through umount_tree() or not.
* struct mountpoint changes
refcount is no more; what matters is ->m_list emptiness;
instead of temporary bumping the refcount, we insert a new object
(pinned_mountpoint) into ->m_list;
new calling conventions for lock_mount() and friends.
* do_move_mount()/attach_recursive_mnt() seriously cleaned up.
* globals in fs/pnode.c are gone.
* propagate_mnt(), change_mnt_propagation() and propagate_umount() cleaned up
(in the last case - pretty much completely rewritten).
* freeing of emptied mnt_namespace is done in namespace_unlock()
for one thing, there are subtle ordering requirements there;
for another it simplifies cleanups.
* assorted cleanups.
* restore the machinery for long-term mounts from accumulated bitrot.
This is going to get a followup come next cycle, when #work.fs_context
with its change of vfs_fs_parse_string() calling conventions goes
into -next.

fs: change write_begin/write_end interface to take struct kiocb *
Change the address_space_operations callbacks write_begin() and write_end() to take struct kiocb * as the first argument instead of struct file *. Update all affected function prototypes, implementations, call sites, and related documentation across VFS, filesystems, and block layer. Part of a series refactoring address_space_operations write_begin and write_end callbacks to use struct kiocb for passing write context and flags. mm/hugetlb: remove prepare_hugepage_range()
Only mips and loongarch implemented this API, however what it does was checking against stack overflow for either len or addr. That's already done in arch's arch_get_unmapped_area*() functions, even though it may not be 100% identical checks. For example, for both of the architectures, there will be a trivial difference on how stack top was defined. The old code uses STACK_TOP which may be slightly smaller than TASK_SIZE on either of them, but the hope is that shouldn't be a problem. It means the whole API is pretty much obsolete at least now, remove it completely. mm/hugetlb: make hugetlb_reserve_pages() return nr of entries updated
Patch series "mm/memfd: Reserve hugetlb folios before allocation", v4. There are cases when we try to pin a folio but discover that it has not been faulted-in. So, we try to allocate it in memfd_alloc_folio() but the allocation request may not succeed if there are no active reservations in the system at that instant. Therefore, making a reservation (by calling hugetlb_reserve_pages()) associated with the allocation will ensure that our request would not fail due to lack of reservations. This will also ensure that proper region/subpool accounting is done with our allocation. This patch (of 3): Currently, hugetlb_reserve_pages() returns a bool to indicate whether the reservation map update for the range [from, to] was successful or not. This is not sufficient for the case where the caller needs to determine how many entries were updated for the range. Therefore, have hugetlb_reserve_pages() return the number of entries updated in the reservation map associated with the range [from, to]. Also, update the callers of hugetlb_reserve_pages() to handle the new return value. sanitize handling of long-term internal mounts
Original rationale for those had been the reduced cost of mntput() for the stuff that is mounted somewhere. Mount refcount increments and decrements are frequent; what's worse, they tend to concentrate on the same instances and cacheline pingpong is quite noticable. As the result, mount refcounts are per-cpu; that allows a very cheap increment. Plain decrement would be just as easy, but decrement-and-test is anything but (we need to add the components up, with exclusion against possible increment-from-zero, etc.). Fortunately, there is a very common case where we can tell that decrement won't be the final one - if the thing we are dropping is currently mounted somewhere. We have an RCU delay between the removal from mount tree and dropping the reference that used to pin it there, so we can just take rcu_read_lock() and check if the victim is mounted somewhere. If it is, we can go ahead and decrement without and further checks - the reference we are dropping is not the last one. If it isn't, we get all the fun with locking, carefully adding up components, etc., but the majority of refcount decrements end up taking the fast path. There is a major exception, though - pipes and sockets. Those live on the internal filesystems that are not going to be mounted anywhere. They are not going to be _un_mounted, of course, so having to take the slow path every time a pipe or socket gets closed is really obnoxious. Solution had been to mark them as long-lived ones - essentially faking "they are mounted somewhere" indicator. With minor modification that works even for ones that do eventually get dropped - all it takes is making sure we have an RCU delay between clearing the "mounted somewhere" indicator and dropping the reference. There are some additional twists (if you want to drop a dozen of such internal mounts, you'd be better off with clearing the indicator on all of them, doing an RCU delay once, then dropping the references), but in the basic form it had been * use kern_mount() if you want your internal mount to be a long-term one. * use kern_unmount() to undo that. Unfortunately, the things did rot a bit during the mount API reshuffling. In several cases we have lost the "fake the indicator" part; kern_unmount() on the unmount side remained (it doesn't warn if you use it on a mount without the indicator), but all benefits regaring mntput() cost had been lost. To get rid of that bitrot, let's add a new helper that would work with fs_context-based API: fc_mount_longterm(). It's a counterpart of fc_mount() that does, on success, mark its result as long-term. It must be paired with kern_unmount() or equivalents. Converted: 1) mqueue (it used to use kern_mount_data() and the umount side is still as it used to be) 2) hugetlbfs (used to use kern_mount_data(), internal mount is never unmounted in this one) 3) i915 gemfs (used to be kern_mount() + manual remount to set options, still uses kern_unmount() on umount side) 4) v3d gemfs (copied from i915) Reviewed-by: Christian Brauner <brauner@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> |

Change inode_operations.mkdir to return struct dentry *
Some filesystems, such as NFS, cifs, ceph, and fuse, do not have
complete control of sequencing on the actual filesystem (e.g. on a
different server) and may find that the inode created for a mkdir
request already exists in the icache and dcache by the time the mkdir
request returns. For example, if the filesystem is mounted twice the
directory could be visible on the other mount before it is on the
original mount, and a pair of name_to_handle_at(), open_by_handle_at()
calls could instantiate the directory inode with an IS_ROOT() dentry
before the first mkdir returns.
This means that the dentry passed to ->mkdir() may not be the one that
is associated with the inode after the ->mkdir() completes. Some
callers need to interact with the inode after the ->mkdir completes and
they currently need to perform a lookup in the (rare) case that the
dentry is no longer hashed.
This lookup-after-mkdir requires that the directory remains locked to
avoid races. Planned future patches to lock the dentry rather than the
directory will mean that this lookup cannot be performed atomically with
the mkdir.
To remove this barrier, this patch changes ->mkdir to return the
resulting dentry if it is different from the one passed in.
Possible returns are:
NULL - the directory was created and no other dentry was used
ERR_PTR() - an error occurred
non-NULL - this other dentry was spliced in
This patch only changes file-systems to return "ERR_PTR(err)" instead of
"err" or equivalent transformations. Subsequent patches will make
further changes to some file-systems to return a correct dentry.
Not all filesystems reliably result in a positive hashed dentry:
- NFS, cifs, hostfs will sometimes need to perform a lookup of
the name to get inode information. Races could result in this
returning something different. Note that this lookup is
non-atomic which is what we are trying to avoid. Placing the
lookup in filesystem code means it only happens when the filesystem
has no other option.
- kernfs and tracefs leave the dentry negative and the ->revalidate
operation ensures that lookup will be called to correctly populate
the dentry. This could be fixed but I don't think it is important
to any of the users of vfs_mkdir() which look at the dentry.
The recommendation to use
d_drop();d_splice_alias()
is ugly but fits with current practice. A planned future patch will
change this.

mm/hugetlb: rename avoid_reserve to cow_from_owner
The old name "avoid_reserve" can be too generic and can be used wrongly in the new call sites that want to allocate a hugetlb folio. It's confusing on two things: (1) whether one can opt-in to avoid global reservation, and (2) whether it should take more than one count. In reality, this flag is only used in an extremely hacky path, in an extremely hacky way in hugetlb CoW path only, and always use with 1 saying "skip global reservation". Rename the flag to avoid future abuse of this flag, making it a boolean so as to reflect its true representation that it's not a counter. To make it even harder to abuse, add a comment above the function to explain it. mm: perform all memfd seal checks in a single place
We no longer actually need to perform these checks in the f_op->mmap()

We already moved the operation which clears VM_MAYWRITE on a read-only

mm: use aligned address in clear_gigantic_page()
In current kernel, hugetlb_no_page() calls folio_zero_user() with the
fault address. Where the fault address may be not aligned with the huge
page size. Then, folio_zero_user() may call clear_gigantic_page() with
the address, while clear_gigantic_page() requires the address to be huge
page size aligned. So, this may cause memory corruption or information
leak, addtional, use more obvious naming 'addr_hint' instead of 'addr' for
clear_gigantic_page().

arm64 updates for 6.13:
* Support for running Linux in a protected VM under the Arm Confidential
Compute Architecture (CCA)
* Guarded Control Stack user-space support. Current patches follow the
x86 ABI of implicitly creating a shadow stack on clone(). Subsequent
patches (already on the list) will add support for clone3() allowing
finer-grained control of the shadow stack size and placement from libc
* AT_HWCAP3 support (not running out of HWCAP2 bits yet but we are
getting close with the upcoming dpISA support)
* Other arch features:
- In-kernel use of the memcpy instructions, FEAT_MOPS (previously only
exposed to user; uaccess support not merged yet)
- MTE: hugetlbfs support and the corresponding kselftests
- Optimise CRC32 using the PMULL instructions
- Support for FEAT_HAFT enabling ARCH_HAS_NONLEAF_PMD_YOUNG
- Optimise the kernel TLB flushing to use the range operations
- POE/pkey (permission overlays): further cleanups after bringing the
signal handler in line with the x86 behaviour for 6.12
* arm64 perf updates:
- Support for the NXP i.MX91 PMU in the existing IMX driver
- Support for Ampere SoCs in the Designware PCIe PMU driver
- Support for Marvell's 'PEM' PCIe PMU present in the 'Odyssey' SoC
- Support for Samsung's 'Mongoose' CPU PMU
- Support for PMUv3.9 finer-grained userspace counter access control
- Switch back to platform_driver::remove() now that it returns 'void'
- Add some missing events for the CXL PMU driver
* Miscellaneous arm64 fixes/cleanups:
- Page table accessors cleanup: type updates, drop unused macros,
reorganise arch_make_huge_pte() and clean up pte_mkcont(), sanity
check addresses before runtime P4D/PUD folding
- Command line override for ID_AA64MMFR0_EL1.ECV (advertising the

mm: consolidate common checks in hugetlb_get_unmapped_area
prepare_hugepage_range() performs almost the same checks for all architectures that define it, with the exception of mips and loongarch that also check for overflows. The rest checks for the addr and len to be properly aligned, so we can move that to hugetlb_get_unmapped_area() and get rid of a fair amount of duplicated code.
