4e0197fbb0 usb: core: sysfs: add lock to bos_descriptors_read()
Add a lock to the function bos_descriptors_read().

This function accesses udev->bos, which could be simultaneously freed in
usb_reset_and_verify_device(), a function that is commonly called in
drivers all over the kernel.

e0b291fe11 usb: core: port: Deattach Type-C connector on component unbind
connector_unbind() is the mirror of connector_bind(), but it is missing
the symmetric call to typec_deattach() that connector_bind() makes via:

    if (port_dev->child)
        typec_attach(port_dev->connector, &port_dev->child->dev);

When a Thunderbolt dock is unplugged, two teardown paths race:

1. The component framework calls connector_unbind() first, which sets
   port_dev->connector = NULL without calling typec_deattach().  This
   leaves port->usb2_dev/port->usb3_dev in struct typec_port pointing at
   the USB device that is about to be freed.

2. usb_disconnect() then calls typec_deattach(port_dev->connector, ...),
   but port_dev->connector is already NULL, so the call is a no-op and
   port->usb2_dev is never cleared.

3. Concurrently, UCSI detects a PD partner-disconnect event and calls
   typec_unregister_partner(), which reads port->usb2_dev (now a dangling
   pointer to freed memory) and passes it to typec_partner_unlink_device()
   -> sysfs_remove_link() -> dev_name() on the freed device, corrupting
   the typec/UCSI partner state.

This corruption leaves the Thunderbolt tunnel in an inconsistent state on
the next dock hot-plug. On affected hardware the dock's I225/igc NIC fails
to enumerate: AER fires a slot reset while the igc driver is still
initialising ("PCIe link lost"), and the subsequent igc_reset attempt hits
igc_rd32 on an already-detached device:

    igc 0000:2e:00.0 eth0: PCIe link lost, device now detached
    igc: Failed to read reg 0x0!
    WARNING: CPU: 9 PID: 129 at drivers/net/ethernet/intel/igc/igc_main.c:7005

     irq_thread+0xf4/0x1f0

4. UCSI later handles the PD partner-disconnect and calls
   typec_unregister_partner(), which still sees the stale port->usb2_dev
   and tries to remove its sysfs link a second time:

   kernfs: can not remove 'typec', no directory
   WARNING: CPU: 6 PID: 55 at fs/kernfs/dir.c:1706 kernfs_remove_by_name_ns+0xe9/0xf0

    ret_from_fork+0x121/0x140
    ret_from_fork_asm+0x1a/0x30

   With worse timing the same stale pointer is dereferenced after the
   backing memory is freed, turning the warning into a use-after-free.

Fix the asymmetry: call typec_deattach() before clearing
port_dev->connector, matching what connector_bind() does on the bind side.
typec_partner_deattach() is already protected by port->partner_link_lock,
so it serialises safely with the concurrent typec_unregister_partner() path.

fc59178778 USB: quirks: add NO_LPM for the Samsung T5 EVO Portable SSD
The Samsung T5 EVO Portable SSD (04e8:6200) exhibit two forms of
link instability when USB Link Power Management is enabled:

  1. The units fail to initialize properly on first detection,
  resulting in a lockup in the drive where it must be power cycled
  or the kernel will not recognize the presence of the device.

  2. If used for sustained operations (small amounts of continuous
  data are transferred to the unit) then the unit will "hiccup"
  after roughly 8 hours of use and will disconnect and reconnect.
  This has a certain probability of triggering the first issue,
  but also causes mount points to become invalid since the device
  gets issued a new letter.

d5559f43d7 usb: core: hcd: fix possible deadlock in rh control transfers
>From within the SCSI error handler memory allocations must not
trigger IO. Handling errors in UAS and the storage driver may
involve resetting a device. The thread doing the reset itself
relies on VM magic. However, that is insufficient, as resetting
a device involves resuming it. Resumption as well as resetting
involves conrol transfers to the parent of the device to be reset.
That may be a root hub. Hence usbcore must heed the flags passed
to usb_submit_urb() processing control transfers to root hubs.

The problem exist since the storage driver has been merged.

9ddb9c0dec USB: quirks: add NO_LPM for Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 hub controllers
The Lenovo ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2 (17ef:a391, 17ef:a392) hub
controllers exhibit link instability when USB Link Power Management
is enabled, similar to the dock's Ethernet adapter (17ef:a387) which
already carries USB_QUIRK_NO_LPM.

When the dock reconnects after a transient disconnect, the hub
controllers enter LPM states between re-enumeration retries, causing
repeated disconnect/reconnect cycles lasting up to two minutes.
Disabling LPM for these devices restores stable enumeration.

727d045d06 usb: core: Fix up Interrupt IN endpoints with bogus wBytesPerInterval
Tao Xue found that some common devices violate USB 3.x section 9.6.7
by reporting wBytesPerInterval lower than the size of packets they
actually send. I confirmed that AX88179 may set it to 0 and RTL8153
CDC configuration sets it to 8 but sends both 8 and 16 byte packets:

S Ii:11:007:3 -115:128 16 <
C Ii:11:007:3 0:128 8 = a1000000 01000000
S Ii:11:007:3 -115:128 16 <
C Ii:11:007:3 0:128 16 = a12a0000 01000800 00000000 00000000

Most xHCI host controllers neglect interrupt bandwidth reservations
and let such devices exceed theirs, some fail the URB with EOVERFLOW.

Assume that wBytesPerInterval lower than wMaxPacketSize is bogus and
increase it to the worst case maximum on interrupt IN endpoints. This
solves xHCI problems and appears to have no other effect. Interrupt
transfers are not limited to one interval and drivers submit URBs of
class defined size without looking at wBytesPerInterval. Any multi-
interval transfer is considered terminated by a packet shorter than
wMaxPacketSize regardless of wBytesPerInterval - see USB3 8.10.3.

Stay in spec on OUT endpoints and isochronous. No buggy devices are
known and we don't want to risk sending more data than the device
is prepared to handle or confusing isoc drivers regarding altsetting
capacities guaranteed by the device itself. And don't complain when
wMaxPacketSize <= wBytesPerInterval < wMaxPacketSize * (bMaxBurst+1)
because enabling this seems to be the exact goal of the spec.

d1e280334b usb: core: Fix SuperSpeed root hub wMaxPacketSize
There is no good reason to have wBytesPerInterval < wMaxPacketSize -
either one is too low or the other too high, and we may want to warn
about such descriptors. Start with cleaning up our own root hubs.

USB 3.2 section 10.15.1 sets wMaxPacketSize and wBytesPerInterval of
SuperSpeed hub status endpoints at 2 bytes, so reduce wMaxPacketSize
from its former value of 4, which was derived from USB 2.0 spec and
the kernel's USB_MAXCHILDREN limit. They don't apply because USB 3.2
10.15.2.1 specifies SuperSpeed hubs to have up to 15 ports.

Reverse the check of the size of the usb_ssp_isoc_ep_comp_descriptor

Functionally, this doesn't really do anything as the buffer is all
internal to the kernel, and reading off the end is just fine, but static
checking tools get picky when noticing that a potential read could be
made "outside" of an allocated buffer.

Not a bugfix, but a cleanup to keep tools from tripping over this

8b7a42ecdc USB: core: add NO_LPM quirk for Razer Kiyo Pro webcam
The Razer Kiyo Pro (1532:0e05) is a USB 3.0 UVC webcam whose firmware
does not handle USB Link Power Management transitions reliably. When LPM
is active, the device can enter a state where it fails to respond to
control transfers, producing EPIPE (-32) errors on UVC probe control
SET_CUR requests. In the worst case, the stalled endpoint triggers an
xHCI stop-endpoint command that times out, causing the host controller
to be declared dead and every USB device on the bus to be disconnected.

This has been reported as Ubuntu Launchpad Bug #2061177. The failure
mode is:

  1. UVC probe control SET_CUR returns -32 (EPIPE)
  2. xHCI host not responding to stop endpoint command
  3. xHCI host controller not responding, assume dead
  4. All USB devices on the affected xHCI controller disconnect

Disabling LPM prevents the firmware from entering the problematic low-
power states that precede the stall. This is the same approach used for
other webcams with similar firmware issues (e.g., Logitech HD Webcam C270).

0179c6da07 usb: core: phy: avoid double use of 'usb3-phy'
Commit 53a2d95df8 ("usb: core: add phy notify connect and disconnect")
causes double use of the 'usb3-phy' in certain cases.

Since that commit, if a generic PHY named 'usb3-phy' is specified in
the device tree, that is getting added to the 'phy_roothub' list of the
secondary HCD by the usb_phy_roothub_alloc_usb3_phy() function. However,
that PHY is getting added also to the primary HCD's 'phy_roothub' list
by usb_phy_roothub_alloc() if there is no generic PHY specified with
'usb2-phy' name.

This causes that the usb_add_hcd() function executes each phy operations
twice on the 'usb3-phy'. Once when the primary HCD is added, then once
again when the secondary HCD is added.

The issue affects the Marvell Armada 3700 platform at least, where a
custom name is used for the USB2 PHY:

  $ git grep 'phy-names.*usb3' arch/arm64/boot/dts/marvell/armada-37xx.dtsi | tr '\t' ' '
  arch/arm64/boot/dts/marvell/armada-37xx.dtsi:    phy-names = "usb3-phy", "usb2-utmi-otg-phy";

Extend the usb_phy_roothub_alloc_usb3_phy() function to skip adding the
'usb3-phy' to the 'phy_roothub' list of the secondary HCD when 'usb2-phy'
is not specified in the device tree to avoid the double use.

The reason is if the host controller resume routine xhci_resume() call
usb_hcd_resume_root_hub(), wakeup_work will be queued and run immediately.
Then usb_autoresume_device() will be called and usb device will exit
runtime suspended state (if it was suspended before). For a hub device,
hub_resume()/hub_reset_resume() will be called accordingly.

After the host controller device system resume is finished, the root hub
usb device "usb1" will do system resume too. Then hub_resume() will be
called again.

Above sequence will cause hub->urb to be submitted twice. To avoid this
issue, restore the previous behavior by queuing wakeup_work to
system_freezable_wq workqueue.

b84cc80610 usb: port: add delay after usb_hub_set_port_power()
When a port is disabled, an attached device will be disconnected. This
causes a port-status-change event, which will race with hub autosuspend
(if the disabled port was the only connected port on its hub), causing
an immediate resume and a second autosuspend. Both of these can be
avoided by adding a short delay after the call to
usb_hub_set_port_power().

Below log shows what is happening:

8020c41b39 usb: core: allow ACPI-managed hard-wired ports to power off
USB core only relaxes the default PM_QOS_FLAG_NO_POWER_OFF policy when
an upstream hub reports switchable port power. That misses internal
ports whose power is managed by platform firmware instead of the USB
hub descriptor.

Allow the port-poweroff policy to be exposed for hard-wired ports with
an ACPI-managed power resource. The existing runtime PM path still
requires the child usage count to drop and remote wakeup to be clear
before it will power the port down.

This lets internal devices such as CNVi Bluetooth use the existing USB
ACPI runtime power path even when the root hub reports no USB-standard
port power switching.

9f6a983cfa usb: core: new quirk to handle devices with zero configurations
Some USB devices incorrectly report bNumConfigurations as 0 in their
device descriptor, which causes the USB core to reject them during
enumeration.
logs:
usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -71
usb 1-2: no configurations
usb 1-2: can't read configurations, error -22

However, these devices actually work correctly when
treated as having a single configuration.

Add a new quirk USB_QUIRK_FORCE_ONE_CONFIG to handle such devices.
When this quirk is set, assume the device has 1 configuration instead
of failing with -EINVAL.

This quirk is applied to the device with VID:PID 5131:2007 which

1015c27a5e USB: core: Limit the length of unkillable synchronous timeouts
The usb_control_msg(), usb_bulk_msg(), and usb_interrupt_msg() APIs in
usbcore allow unlimited timeout durations. And since they use
uninterruptible waits, this leaves open the possibility of hanging a
task for an indefinitely long time, with no way to kill it short of
unplugging the target device.

To prevent this sort of problem, enforce a maximum limit on the length
of these unkillable timeouts. The limit chosen here, somewhat
arbitrarily, is 60 seconds. On many systems (although not all) this
is short enough to avoid triggering the kernel's hung-task detector.

In addition, clear up the ambiguity of negative timeout values by
treating them the same as 0, i.e., using the maximum allowed timeout.

416909962e USB: usbcore: Introduce usb_bulk_msg_killable()
The synchronous message API in usbcore (usb_control_msg(),
usb_bulk_msg(), and so on) uses uninterruptible waits. However,
drivers may call these routines in the context of a user thread, which
means it ought to be possible to at least kill them.

For this reason, introduce a new usb_bulk_msg_killable() function
which behaves the same as usb_bulk_msg() except for using
wait_for_completion_killable_timeout() instead of
wait_for_completion_timeout(). The same can be done later for
usb_control_msg() later on, if it turns out to be needed.

e293015ba7 usb: core: don't power off roothub PHYs if phy_set_mode() fails
Remove the error path from the usb_phy_roothub_set_mode() function.
The code is clearly wrong, because phy_set_mode() calls can't be
balanced with phy_power_off() calls.

Additionally, the usb_phy_roothub_set_mode() function is called only
from usb_add_hcd() before it powers on the PHYs, so powering off those
makes no sense anyway.

Presumably, the code is copy-pasted from the phy_power_on() function
without adjusting the error handling.

32a92f8c89 Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL arguments
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split
over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the
resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next
line.

Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for
me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the
middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial.

So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the
syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed'
scripts.

The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want
whitespace cleanup anyway.

than 'objs*'.

bf4afc53b7 Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

before another one doesn't really matter. All that really is needed is
the PCI softdep module loading logic, which has been present in the
kernel ever since commit 05c92da0c5 ("usb: ohci/uhci - add soft
dependencies on ehci_pci")

So remove the warning messages, they are not useful, not needed, and
only confuse people. As can be seen in the discussion at

1ade6a4f7f USB: core: Discard pm_runtime_put() return value
To allow the return type of pm_runtime_put() to be changed to void in the
future, modify usb_autopm_put_interface_async() to discard the return
value of pm_runtime_put().

That value is merely used in a debug comment printed by the function in
question and it is not a particularly useful piece of information
because pm_runtime_put() does not guarantee that the device will be
suspended even if it successfully queues up a work item to check
whether or not the device can be suspended.

2740ac33c8 usb: core: add USB_QUIRK_NO_BOS for devices that hang on BOS descriptor
Add USB_QUIRK_NO_BOS quirk flag to skip requesting the BOS descriptor
for devices that cannot handle it.

Add Elgato 4K X (0fd9:009b) to the quirk table. This device hangs when
the BOS descriptor is requested at SuperSpeed Plus (10Gbps).

e91bbe0828 USB: add WQ_PERCPU to alloc_workqueue users
Currently if a user enqueues a work item using schedule_delayed_work() the
used wq is "system_wq" (per-cpu wq) while queue_delayed_work() use
WORK_CPU_UNBOUND (used when a cpu is not specified). The same applies to
schedule_work() that is using system_wq and queue_work(), that makes use
again of WORK_CPU_UNBOUND.
This lack of consistency cannot be addressed without refactoring the API.

alloc_workqueue() treats all queues as per-CPU by default, while unbound
workqueues must opt-in via WQ_UNBOUND.

This default is suboptimal: most workloads benefit from unbound queues,
allowing the scheduler to place worker threads where they’re needed and
reducing noise when CPUs are isolated.

This continues the effort to refactor workqueue APIs, which began with
the introduction of new workqueues and a new alloc_workqueue flag in:

commit 128ea9f6cc ("workqueue: Add system_percpu_wq and system_dfl_wq")
commit 930c2ea566 ("workqueue: Add new WQ_PERCPU flag")

This change adds a new WQ_PERCPU flag to explicitly request
alloc_workqueue() to be per-cpu when WQ_UNBOUND has not been specified.

With the introduction of the WQ_PERCPU flag (equivalent to !WQ_UNBOUND),
any alloc_workqueue() caller that doesn’t explicitly specify WQ_UNBOUND
must now use WQ_PERCPU.

Once migration is complete, WQ_UNBOUND can be removed and unbound will
become the implicit default.

071786e27d usb: core: Add tracepoints for device allocation and state changes
Introduce new tracepoints to the USB core to improve debuggability of
USB device lifecycle events.

The following tracepoints are added:

- usb_alloc_dev: Triggered when a new USB device structure is allocated,
providing insights into early device setup.
- usb_set_device_state: Triggered when the USB device state changes,
allowing observation of the device's state transitions.

These tracepoints capture detailed information about the USB device,
including its name, speed, state, bus current value, and authorized
flag. This will aid developers in diagnosing issues related to device
enumeration within the USB subsystem.

Examples:
 usb_alloc_dev: usb 1-1 speed UNKNOWN state attached 0mA [authorized]
 usb_set_device_state: usb 1-1 speed UNKNOWN state powered 0mA [authorized]
 usb_set_device_state: usb 1-1 speed full-speed state default 500mA [authorized]
 usb_set_device_state: usb 1-1 speed full-speed state default 500mA [authorized]
 usb_set_device_state: usb 1-1 speed full-speed state addressed 500mA [authorized]
 usb_set_device_state: usb 1-1 speed full-speed state configured 500mA [authorized]
 usb_set_device_state: usb 1-1 speed full-speed state suspended 500mA [authorized]
 usb_set_device_state: usb 1-1 speed full-speed state not attached 500mA [authorized]

5570ad1423 USB: Fix descriptor count when handling invalid MBIM extended descriptor
In cdc_parse_cdc_header(), the check for the USB_CDC_MBIM_EXTENDED_TYPE
descriptor was using 'break' upon detecting an invalid length.

This was incorrect because 'break' only exits the switch statement,
causing the code to fall through to cnt++, thus incorrectly
incrementing the count of parsed descriptors for a descriptor that was
actually invalid and being discarded.

This patch changes 'break' to 'goto next_desc;' to ensure that the
logic skips the counter increment and correctly proceeds to the next
descriptor in the buffer. This maintains an accurate count of only
the successfully parsed descriptors.
