b5e21a29fe scsi: ufs: core: Add support to notify userspace of UniPro QoS events
The UniPro stack manages to repair many potential Link problems without the
need to notify the Application Layer. Repair mechanisms of the stack
include L2 re-transmission and successful handling of PA_INIT.req.
Nevertheless, any successful repair sequence requires Link bandwidth that
is no longer vailable for the Application. Therefore, it may be useful for
an Application to understand how often such repair attempts are made.

The DME implements Quality of Service monitoring using a simple counting
scheme, counting error events and comparing them against the number of
correctly received or transmitted bytes. When the error counter exceeds a
programmed threshold before the byte counter overflows, a DME_QoS.ind is
issued to the Application and both counters are reset. When the byte
counter overflows before the error counter has reached the programmed
threshold, both counters are reset without triggering a DME_QoS.ind.

The DME provides Link quality monitoring for the following purposes:

1. Detection of re-occurring repaired fatal error conditions on the Link
   (PA_INIT loop). This kind of detection is useful if capabilities
   exchanged between local and peer permit a potential operation at a
   higher M-PHY Gear, but the physical interconnect between local and peer
   Device does not, or, after Line quality degradation, no longer satisfies
   channel characteristics.

2. Detection of degraded inbound or outbound Link quality, to allow an
   Application to issue an ADAPT sequence for a Link running in HS-G4 or
   higher HS Gears. This kind of detection is used to monitor a slowly
   degrading Link quality, e.g., one being affected by temperature and
   voltage variations, against the expected M-PHY bit error rate.

Userspace can configure and enable UniPro QoS via UniPro QoS Attributes
(via UFS BSG) and get notified by dme_qos_notification without polling
UniPro QoS Status attribute. The dme_qos_notification attribute is a
bitfield with the following bit assignments:

   Bit	Description
   ===	======================================
   0	DME QoS Monitor has been reset by host
   1	QoS from TX is detected
   2	QoS from RX is detected
   3	QoS from PA_INIT is detected

15df721f62 Merge patch series "ufs: ufs-qcom: Add support firmware managed platforms"
Ram Kumar Dwivedi <ram.dwivedi@oss.qualcomm.com> says:

On Qualcomm automotive SoC SA8255P, platform resource like clocks,
interconnect, resets, regulators and PHY are configured remotely by
firmware.

Logical power domain is used to abstract these resources in firmware
and SCMI power protocol is used to request resource operations by
using runtime PM framework APIs such as pm_runtime_get/put_sync to
invoke power_on/_off calls from kernel respectively.

26c06d0bae scsi: ufs: core: Enforce minimum PM level for sysfs configuration
Some UFS platforms only support a limited subset of power levels.
Currently, the sysfs interface allows users to set any PM level without
validating the minimum supported value. If an unsupported level is
selected, suspend may fail.

Introduce an pm_lvl_min field in the ufs_hba structure and use it to
clamp the PM level requested via sysfs so that only supported levels are
accepted. Platforms that require a minimum PM level can set this field
during probe.

f838d624fd scsi: ufs: core: Revert "Make HID attributes visible"
Patch "Make HID attributes visible" is needed for older kernel versions
(e.g. 6.12) where ufs_get_device_desc() is called from ufshcd_probe_hba().
In these older kernel versions ufshcd_get_device_desc() may be called
after the sysfs attributes have been added. In the upstream kernel however
ufshcd_get_device_desc() is called before ufs_sysfs_add_nodes(). See also
the ufshcd_device_params_init() call from ufshcd_init(). Hence, calling
sysfs_update_group() is not necessary.

See also commit 69f5eb78d4 ("scsi: ufs: core: Move the
ufshcd_device_init(hba, true) call") in kernel v6.13.

This patch fixes the following kernel warning:

79dde5f7dc scsi: ufs: core: Fix data race in CPU latency PM QoS request handling
The cpu_latency_qos_add/remove/update_request interfaces lack internal
synchronization by design, requiring the caller to ensure thread safety.
The current implementation relies on the 'pm_qos_enabled' flag, which is
insufficient to prevent concurrent access and cannot serve as a proper
synchronization mechanism. This has led to data races and list
corruption issues.

A typical race condition call trace is:

[Thread A]
ufshcd_pm_qos_exit()
  --> cpu_latency_qos_remove_request()
    --> cpu_latency_qos_apply();
      --> pm_qos_update_target()
        --> plist_del              <--(1) delete plist node
    --> memset(req, 0, sizeof(*req));
  --> hba->pm_qos_enabled = false;

[Thread B]
ufshcd_devfreq_target
  --> ufshcd_devfreq_scale
    --> ufshcd_scale_clks
      --> ufshcd_pm_qos_update     <--(2) pm_qos_enabled is true
        --> cpu_latency_qos_update_request
          --> pm_qos_update_target
            --> plist_del          <--(3) plist node use-after-free

Introduces a dedicated mutex to serialize PM QoS operations, preventing
data races and ensuring safe access to PM QoS resources, including sysfs
interface reads.

edfaf868f3 scsi: ufs: core: Critical health condition
Martin hi,

The UFS4.1 standard, released on January 8, 2025, added a new exception
event: HEALTH_CRITICAL, which notifies the host of a device's critical
health condition. This notification implies that the device is approaching
the end of its lifetime based on the amount of performed program/erase
cycles.

Once an EOL (End-of-Life) exception event is received, we increment a
designated member, which is exposed via a sysfs entry. This new entry, will
report the number of times a critical health event has been reported by a
UFS device.

To handle this new sysfs entry, userspace applications can use select(),
poll(), or epoll() to monitor changes in the critical_health attribute. The
kernel will call sysfs_notify() to signal changes, allowing the userspace
application to detect and respond to these changes efficiently.

The host can gain further insight into the specific issue by reading one of
the following attributes: bPreEOLInfo, bDeviceLifeTimeEstA,
bDeviceLifeTimeEstB, bWriteBoosterBufferLifeTimeEst, and
bRPMBLifeTimeEst. All those are available for reading via the driver's
sysfs entries or through an applicable utility. It is up to userspace to
read these attributes if needed.

1e1a9cecfa block: force noio scope in blk_mq_freeze_queue
When block drivers or the core block code perform allocations with a
frozen queue, this could try to recurse into the block device to

Instead of tying to track all of them down, force a noio scope as

2777e73fc1 scsi: ufs: core: Add CPU latency QoS support for UFS driver
Register UFS driver to CPU latency PM QoS framework to improve UFS device
random I/O performance.

PM QoS initialization will insert new QoS request into the CPU latency QoS
list with the maximum latency PM_QOS_DEFAULT_VALUE value.

The UFS driver will vote for performance mode on scale up and power save
mode for scale down.

If clock scaling feature is not enabled then voting will be based on clock
on or off condition. Also provide a sysfs interface to enable/disable PM
QoS feature.

tiotest benchmark tool I/O performance results on sm8550 platform:

1. Without PM QoS support
	Type (Speed in) | Average of 18 iterations
	Random Write(IPOS) | 41065.13
	Random Read(IPOS)  | 37101.3

2. With PM QoS support
	Type (Speed in) | Average of 18 iterations
	Random Write(IPOS) | 46784.9
	Random Read(IPOS)  | 42943.4

6df14a32e9 Merge patch series "Add UFS RTC support"
Bean Huo <beanhuo@iokpp.de> says:

Adding RTC support for embedded storage device UFS in its driver, it
is important for a few key reasons:

1. Helps with Regular Maintenance:
The RTC provides a basic way to keep track of time, making it useful for
scheduling routine maintenance tasks in the storage device. This includes
things like making sure data is spread
evenly across the storage to extend its life.

2. Figuring Out How Old Data Is:
The RTC helps the device estimate how long ago certain parts of the storage
were last used. This is handy for deciding when to do maintenance tasks to
keep the storage working well over time.

3. Making Devices Last Longer:
By using the RTC for regular upkeep, we can make sure the storage device lasts
longer and stays reliable. This is especially important for devices that need
to work well for a long time.

4.Fitting In with Other Devices:
The inclusion of RTC support aligns with existing UFS specifications (starting
from UFS Spec 2.0) and is consistent with the prevalent industry practice. Many
UFS devices currently on the market utilize RTC for internal timekeeping. By
ensuring compatibility with this widely adopted standard, the embedded storage
device becomes seamlessly integrable with existing hardware and software
ecosystems, reducing the risk of compatibility issues.

In short, adding RTC support to embedded storage device UFS helps with regular
upkeep, extends the device's life, ensures compatibility, and keeps everything
running smoothly with the rest of the system.

e3d55626cf scsi: ufs: wb: Add explicit flush_threshold sysfs attribute
There are three flags that control Write Booster Feature:

    1. WB ON/OFF
    2. WB Hibern Flush ON/OFF (implicitly)
    3. WB Flush ON/OFF (explicit)

In the case of "Hibern Flush", one of the conditions for flush WB buffer is
that avail_wb_buff < wb_flush_threshold.

As we know, different users have different requirements for power
consumption and performance. Therefore, we need the ability to manually set
wb_flush_threshold, so that users can easily and flexibly adjust the
wb_flush_threshold value, thereby achieving a balance between power
consumption and performance.

So the sysfs attribute that controls this is necessary.

wb_flush_threshold represents the threshold for flushing WB buffer, whose
value expressed in unit of 10% granularity, such as '1' representing 10%,
'2' representing 20%, and so on.
