cdd445258d scsi: mpi3mr: Fix pending I/O counter
Commit 199510e33d ("scsi: mpi3mr: Update consumer index of reply

leading to the counter going negative.

ca41929b2e scsi: mpi3mr: Check admin reply queue from Watchdog
Admin reply processing can be called from multiple contexts. The driver
uses an atomic flag for synchronization among multiple threads/context for
draining the admin replies.

Upon entering the admin processing routine, the driver will set the atomic
flag and start reply processing. When exiting the routine, the driver
resets the flag. However, there is a race condition when one thread (Thread
1) has processed replies and is about to reset the flag but in the meantime
few more replies are posted and another thread (Thread 2) is called to
process replies. Since the synchronization flag is still set, Thread 2 will
return without processing replies and those new replies will not be
flushed.

Make the watchdog thread monitor cases where admin ISR/poll call returns
due to another thread processing admin replies. If such an instance is
found, make driver call admin ISR to drain replies (if any).

f195fc060c scsi: mpi3mr: Synchronous access b/w reset and tm thread for reply queue
When the task management thread processes reply queues while the reset
thread resets them, the task management thread accesses an invalid queue ID
(0xFFFF), set by the reset thread, which points to unallocated memory,
causing a crash.

Add flag 'io_admin_reset_sync' to synchronize access between the reset,
I/O, and admin threads. Before a reset, the reset handler sets this flag to
block I/O and admin processing threads. If any thread bypasses the initial
check, the reset thread waits up to 10 seconds for processing to finish. If
the wait exceeds 10 seconds, the controller is marked as unrecoverable.

b9e63d6c7c scsi: mpi3mr: Validate SAS port assignments
A sanity check on phy_mask was added in commit 3668651def ("scsi:
mpi3mr: Sanitise num_phys"). This causes warning messages when more than
64 phys are detected and devices connected to phys greater than 64 are
dropped.

The phy_mask bitmap is only needed for controller phys and not required
for expander phys. Controller phys can go up to a maximum of 64 and
therefore u64 is good enough to contain phy_mask bitmap.

To suppress those warnings and allow devices to be discovered as before
the offending commit, restrict the phy_mask setting and lowest phy
setting only to the controller phys.

During controller transitioning to READY state, if the controller is found

70302fc7ad Merge patch series "Simplify multiple create*_workqueue() invocations"
Bart Van Assche <bvanassche@acm.org> says:

Hi Martin,

Multiple SCSI drivers use snprintf() to format a workqueue name before
invoking one of the create*_workqueue() macros. This patch series
simplifies such code by passing the format string and arguments to
alloc_workqueue(). Additionally, the structure members that are only
used as a temporary buffer for formatting workqueue names are
removed. Please consider this patch series for the next merge window.

8c6b808c8c scsi: mpi3mr: Avoid MAX_PAGE_ORDER WARNING for buffer allocations
Commit fc44449411 ("scsi: mpi3mr: HDB allocation and posting for hardware
and firmware buffers") added mpi3mr_alloc_diag_bufs() which calls
dma_alloc_coherent() to allocate the trace buffer and the firmware
buffer. mpi3mr_alloc_diag_bufs() decides the buffer sizes from the driver
configuration. In my environment, the sizes are 8MB. With the sizes,
dma_alloc_coherent() fails and report this WARNING:

    WARNING: CPU: 4 PID: 438 at mm/page_alloc.c:4676 __alloc_pages_noprof+0x52f/0x640

The WARNING indicates that the order of the allocation size is larger than
MAX_PAGE_ORDER. After this failure, mpi3mr_alloc_diag_bufs() reduces the
buffer sizes and retries dma_alloc_coherent(). In the end, the buffer
allocations succeed with 4MB size in my environment, which corresponds to
MAX_PAGE_ORDER=10. Though the allocations succeed, the WARNING message is
misleading and should be avoided.

To avoid the WARNING, check the orders of the buffer allocation sizes
before calling dma_alloc_coherent(). If the orders are larger than
MAX_PAGE_ORDER, fall back to the retry path.

Some firmware versions of the 9600 series SAS HBA byte-swap the REPORT

90e6f08915 scsi: mpi3mr: Fix ATA NCQ priority support
The function mpi3mr_qcmd() of the mpi3mr driver is able to indicate to
the HBA if a read or write command directed at an ATA device should be
translated to an NCQ read/write command with the high prioiryt bit set
when the request uses the RT priority class and the user has enabled NCQ
priority through sysfs.

However, unlike the mpt3sas driver, the mpi3mr driver does not define
the sas_ncq_prio_supported and sas_ncq_prio_enable sysfs attributes, so
the ncq_prio_enable field of struct mpi3mr_sdev_priv_data is never
actually set and NCQ Priority cannot ever be used.

Fix this by defining these missing atributes to allow a user to check if
an ATA device supports NCQ priority and to enable/disable the use of NCQ
priority. To do this, lift the function scsih_ncq_prio_supp() out of the
mpt3sas driver and make it the generic SCSI SAS transport function
sas_ata_ncq_prio_supported(). Nothing in that function is hardware
specific, so this function can be used in both the mpt3sas driver and
the mpi3mr driver.

0069455bcb fix missing vmalloc.h includes
Patch series "Memory allocation profiling", v6.

Overview:
Low overhead [1] per-callsite memory allocation profiling. Not just for
debug kernels, overhead low enough to be deployed in production.

Usage:
kconfig options:
 - CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING
 - CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_ENABLED_BY_DEFAULT
 - CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_DEBUG
   adds warnings for allocations that weren't accounted because of a
   missing annotation

sysctl:
  /proc/sys/vm/mem_profiling

Runtime info:
  /proc/allocinfo

Notes:

[1]: Overhead
To measure the overhead we are comparing the following configurations:
(1) Baseline with CONFIG_MEMCG_KMEM=n
(2) Disabled by default (CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING=y &&
    CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_BY_DEFAULT=n)
(3) Enabled by default (CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING=y &&
    CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_BY_DEFAULT=y)
(4) Enabled at runtime (CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING=y &&
    CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_BY_DEFAULT=n && /proc/sys/vm/mem_profiling=1)
(5) Baseline with CONFIG_MEMCG_KMEM=y && allocating with __GFP_ACCOUNT
(6) Disabled by default (CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING=y &&
    CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_BY_DEFAULT=n)  && CONFIG_MEMCG_KMEM=y
(7) Enabled by default (CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING=y &&
    CONFIG_MEM_ALLOC_PROFILING_BY_DEFAULT=y) && CONFIG_MEMCG_KMEM=y

Performance overhead:
To evaluate performance we implemented an in-kernel test executing
multiple get_free_page/free_page and kmalloc/kfree calls with allocation
sizes growing from 8 to 240 bytes with CPU frequency set to max and CPU
affinity set to a specific CPU to minimize the noise. Below are results
from running the test on Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS with 6.8.0-rc1 kernel on
56 core Intel Xeon:

                        kmalloc                 pgalloc
(1 baseline)            6.764s                  16.902s
(2 default disabled)    6.793s  (+0.43%)        17.007s (+0.62%)
(3 default enabled)     7.197s  (+6.40%)        23.666s (+40.02%)
(4 runtime enabled)     7.405s  (+9.48%)        23.901s (+41.41%)
(5 memcg)               13.388s (+97.94%)       48.460s (+186.71%)
(6 def disabled+memcg)  13.332s (+97.10%)       48.105s (+184.61%)
(7 def enabled+memcg)   13.446s (+98.78%)       54.963s (+225.18%)

Memory overhead:

This patch (of 37):

The next patch drops vmalloc.h from a system header in order to fix a
circular dependency; this adds it to all the files that were pulling it in
implicitly.

d4309246cf scsi: mpi3mr: Avoid possible run-time warning with long manufacturer strings
The prior use of strscpy() here expected the manufacture_reply strings to
be NUL-terminated, but it is possible they are not, as the code pattern
here shows, e.g., edev->vendor_id being exactly 1 character larger than
manufacture_reply->vendor_id, and the strscpy() was copying only up to
the size of the source character array. Replace this with memtostr(),
which is the unambiguous way to convert a maybe not-NUL-terminated
character array into a NUL-terminated string.

The cause of the WARN is 128 bytes memcpy to the 1 byte size array "__u8

to be a flexible length array, so the WARN is a false positive.

To suppress the WARN, remove the constant number '1' from the array
