Add support for querying and switching the graphics MUX mode on HP
systems via WMI. This introduces the 'gpu_mux_mode' sysfs attribute
under the hp-wmi platform device, allowing userspace tools to check
and safely switch between available graphics modes (e.g., UMA, Hybrid,
Discrete).
The hardware capabilities mask is primarily read using the modern
128-byte System Design Data query. However, to ensure backward
compatibility with older models, a fallback mechanism is implemented.
By mirroring the behavior of the Windows Omen Gaming Hub software, if
the modern query fails but the MUX WMI endpoint (0x52) responds
successfully to a read request, the driver defaults to a standard
Hybrid + Discrete support mask (0x06).

On EAECIS NL60R with EC firmware version 1.11, resuming from S3 has a
very high chance (>90%) of causing the EC to lose the previous backlight
power state. When this happens, the laptop resumes normally from S3, but
the backlight remains off (when shining on the screen with a flash light,
we can see the screen contents are updating normally).
Since there is no generic way to query the EC's backlight state on
Loongson laptop platforms, assume the worst-case scenario and restart
the backlight power inside the kernel each time the system resumes.

Extract the EC feature-reading logic from cros_ec_check_features() into
cros_ec_read_features() helper function.
Currently, cros_ec_check_features() swallows command transfer errors. By
isolating the transaction logic into an explicit helper that returns the
actual transfer error code, subsequent callers (such as the cros_ec_dev

The ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 AMD was sold under two machine types, 20XK and
20XL, but only 20XK has been in the s2idle quirk list since the quirk
was introduced in commit 455cd867b8 ("platform/x86: thinkpad_acpi:
Add a s2idle resume quirk for a number of laptops").
On 20XL machines the firmware SMI handler therefore still runs on the
NVMe D3->D0 transition when exiting suspend-to-idle. With IOMMU
translation enabled (the default), this intermittently stalls resume
for ~10.25 seconds: seven devices across three root ports (nvme, both
xhci_hcd functions, xhci-pci-renesas, snd_hda_intel x2, snd_rn_pci_acp3x)
block in pci_pm_resume_noirq and are released simultaneously, consistent
with all cores being held in SMM.
Add the missing 20XL machine type, mirroring the existing 20XK entry.
This is the same class of omission fixed by commit 9a469c6dfa
("platform/x86: thinkpad_acpi: Add missing T14s Gen1 type to s2idle
quirk list").
Verified on a ThinkPad T14 Gen 2a (type 20XLS41C00, BIOS R1MET62W 1.32,
kernel 6.12.95): with this entry the quirk message appears at probe and
a 14-hour suspend resumes in ~1s with no noirq stalls, where previously
even short suspends could hit the ~10s delay. A further two-day soak
(short naps and two ~14-hour suspends) showed every resume clean.

Commit 833740a233 ("platform/chrome: sensorhub: Bound the EC-reported

for timestamp events. A timestamp event typically has a `sensor_num` of
0xff [1], causing the driver to flag it as invalid and skip to the next
event.
As a result, we'd see a flooding of "Invalid sensor number 255 from EC"
warning logs and these timestamp events were being dropped.
Move the bounds-check into cros_ec_sensor_ring_process_event() and
evaluate it only after standalone timestamp events have already been
processed and returned early.

Since every platform driver can be forced to match a device that doesn't
match its list of device IDs because of device_match_driver_override(),
platform drivers that rely on the existence of a device's ACPI companion
object should verify its presence.
san_probe() dereferences the result of ACPI_COMPANION() when installing
the GSBUS address space handler, so force-binding the driver to a device
without an ACPI companion leads to a NULL pointer dereference. The
dereference was introduced when the probe function was switched from
ACPI_HANDLE() to ACPI_COMPANION().
Check the ACPI companion against NULL and return -ENODEV when it is
missing, like commit e4865a56d0 ("ACPI: driver: Check ACPI_COMPANION()

During driver initialization in asus_wmi_add(), various subsystems are
registered sequentially. However, the error path labels are out of order
relative to the registration sequence.
Specifically:
1. If asus_wmi_custom_fan_curve_init() fails, the driver jumps to
fail_custom_fan_curve. Because this label is placed below fail_sysfs,
it bypasses the cleanup calls for the input device and sysfs groups,
which were successfully registered before, leaking those resources.
2. If asus_screenpad_init() fails, the driver jumps to fail_screenpad.
Because fail_screenpad is placed below fail_backlight, it bypasses the
cleanup calls for backlight and rfkill, leaking those resources.

The interface enables smoother integration with userspace tools such as
AMD SystemDeck [1], which is widely used for monitoring and controlling
power and thermal behavior on AMD platforms. These tools help designers
keep major components within thermal limits to ensure proper operation
and enhance overall system stability and reliability.
The feature is gated behind the CONFIG_AMD_PMF_UTIL_SUPPORT Kconfig
option, allowing it to be disabled if not needed. The implementation
uses existing PMF infrastructure to populate data from the TA (Trusted

Every platform driver can be forced to match a device that does not match
its list of device IDs because of device_match_driver_override(), so
platform drivers that rely on the existence of a device ACPI companion
object need to verify its presence.
asus_wireless_probe() returns success when acpi_match_acpi_device()
finds no match, leaving behind an input device that never reports
anything because the notify handler is not installed. Worse, when the
driver is force-bound to a device without an ACPI companion, probe
still succeeds and stores a NULL companion pointer, which
asus_wireless_remove() later passes to acpi_dev_remove_notify_handler(),
leading to a NULL pointer dereference on unbind.
Return -ENODEV when the device does not match the ID table. This also
covers the missing-companion case, because acpi_match_acpi_device()
rejects a NULL device. Perform the check before allocating any driver
state, instead of after the input device has already been registered.

hp_init_bios_package_attribute() hard-fails when a WMI ACPI package
contains fewer elements than the type-specific expected count (e.g. 11
elements instead of 13 for INTEGER or ENUMERATION attributes). This
causes the entire hp_bioscfg driver to skip attribute enumeration on
older HP hardware whose BIOS returns shortened packages when optional
fields like prerequisites or possible values are absent.
Observed on HP EliteBook 840 G2 (BIOS M71 Ver. 01.31):
hp_bioscfg: ACPI-package does not have enough elements: 11 < 13
The element layout has two tiers:
- Elements 0-9 (SECURITY_LEVEL+1 = 10): common to all attribute types
- Elements 10-N: type-specific (bounds, values, encodings, ...)
The per-type populate functions (hp_populate_*_elements_from_package)
already handle sparse packages correctly via their own elem < count
loop guards and inner-loop bounds checks. The only unsafe case is when
we lack even the common elements needed to register the attribute.
Fix by introducing COMMON_ELEM_CNT to mark the hard minimum (10), and
splitting the check into two tiers:
- Fewer than COMMON_ELEM_CNT elements: hard fail, can't proceed.
- Fewer than expected type-specific elements: warn, but let the
populate function parse what is available.

hp_populate_ordered_list_elements_from_package() differs from the other
per-type parsers: its main loop is bounded only by the fixed per-type
count and never checks elem against the number of elements actually
present in the package,
for (elem = 1, eloc = 1; eloc < ORD_ELEM_CNT; elem++, eloc++)
whereas the string, integer, enumeration and password parsers bound
their main loop with "elem < count" as well.
This is safe today because hp_init_bios_package_attribute() rejects any
package with fewer than ORD_ELEM_CNT elements before the parser runs.
An upcoming change, however, relaxes that check to accept shorter
packages.
Bound the loop by the validated element count as well, so it stops at
whichever comes first, the per-type count or the real package size,
for (elem = 1, eloc = 1; eloc < ORD_ELEM_CNT && elem < order_obj_count;
elem++, eloc++)
order_obj_count is the validated element count, now correctly forwarded
from the caller. No functional change for packages that enumerate
correctly today.

The per-type package parsers are handed the wrong element count.
hp_init_bios_package_attribute() validates obj->package.count and then
calls one of the five hp_populate_*_package_data() wrappers (string,
integer, enumeration, ordered list, password). Each wrapper forwards a
count to its hp_populate_*_elements_from_package() parser, but instead
of forwarding the validated obj->package.count it derives the count
from elements[0]. elements[0] is the NAME field and is always an
ACPI_TYPE_STRING, so reading ->package.count from it in fact reads
->string.length through the union acpi_object. The parsers thus bound
themselves against the length of the name string rather than against
the real number of elements in the package.
This is safe today because hp_init_bios_package_attribute() refuses any
package that has fewer than the type's element count, so a parser only
ever runs on a full package and never reads past it regardless of the
bogus bound.
An upcoming change relaxes that check to accept shorter packages. Once
a parser can receive fewer elements than its per-type count, a bound
taken from the name length no longer reflects the array size, and the
"elem < count" loop conditions and "elem + n >= count" sub-loop guards
read past the end of elements[] - an out-of-bounds heap read.
Forward the validated obj->package.count to every *_package_data()
wrapper so the parsers bound themselves against the real package size.
This does not change behaviour for the packages that enumerate
correctly today and is a prerequisite for accepting shorter packages
safely.

Currently, manual fan control on supported HP models uses a single
PWM value for both CPU and GPU fans, linking their speeds via a hardcoded
gpu_delta offset. This prevents userspace tools from managing the thermal
profiles of the CPU and GPU independently.
Refactor the hwmon implementation to support independent dual-channel
PWM control:
- Split the single 'pwm' state into 'cpu_pwm' and 'gpu_pwm'.
- Expose a second PWM channel ('pwm2') to userspace via hwmon_channel_info.
- Remove the gpu_delta mechanism entirely.
The 'pwm1_enable' mode remains shared, as the underlying hardware does
not support per-fan modes. When switching to manual mode, both fans are
smoothly initialized to their current RPMs. Additionally, ensure that
the HP_FAN_SPEED_AUTOMATIC flag is isolated from rpm_to_pwm mathematical
interpolations during mode resets to prevent unintended fan states.

dc_rog_tunables fails, the already allocated ac_rog_tunables gets
freed but the pointer stored in

init_rog_tunables() returns void, the driver initialization continues,

The pnp.device_class string in the ACPI companion of the platform
device used for binding the driver is never initialized, so passing
it to acpi_bus_generate_netlink_event() is effectively equivalent to
passing an empty string literal to that function.
Accordingly, make the driver do the latter instead of doing the former.

hsmp_parse_acpi_table() published sock->dev before hsmp_read_acpi_crs()
had mapped virt_base_addr. sock->dev is the readiness gate for the
lock-free data plane, so on a multi-socket system - where socket 0
exposes /dev/hsmp before later sockets finish probing - an ioctl aimed
at a socket still in bring-up could pass the gate and dereference a NULL
virt_base_addr.
Publish sock->dev last with smp_store_release() once virt_base_addr, the
mailbox offsets and the semaphore are initialized, and read it with
smp_load_acquire() in hsmp_send_message() so a non-NULL dev guarantees
the rest of the socket state is visible.

hsmp_read_acpi_crs() and hsmp_read_acpi_dsd() read the ACPI handle and
emit error messages via sock->dev. Pass the struct device explicitly to
both helpers instead of reading it back from sock->dev.
This is a pure refactor with no functional change; it prepares for
publishing sock->dev as the data-plane readiness gate only after the
socket has been fully initialized, so the parsers must not depend on
sock->dev already being set.

The .driver_data member of the the two struct ssam_device_id arrays were
initialized by list expressions. This isn't easily readable if you don't
work with the Surface System Aggregator core regularily. Using named
initializers is more explicit and thus easier to parse and also more
robust to changes of the struct definition. This robustness is relevant
for a planned change to struct ssam_device_id replacing .driver_data
by an anonymous union.
This change doesn't introduce changes to the compiled ssam_device_id

duplicated by the AT Translated Set 2 Keyboard device exposed as an

The out-of-tree msi-ec driver probes successfully on this

On models flagged with requires_fan_curve in the DMI power_data table
(30 entries), the BIOS ACPI method SPLX only writes PPT values to the
EC when the fan mode is set to Manual (FANM=4). FANM is set to 4 by
the DEFC method when a custom fan curve is written. Without an active
custom fan curve, the WMI DEVS call returns success but the firmware
silently ignores the PPT value, so userspace observes no effect from
its write.
Gate writes to ASUS_WMI_DEVID_PPT_{PL1_SPL,PL2_SPPT,PL3_FPPT,APU_SPPT,
PLAT_SPPT} on a check of asus_wmi_custom_fan_curve_is_enabled(), and
return -EBUSY with a pr_warn_once() when no fan curve is active on an
affected model. Export the helper from asus-wmi so asus-armoury can
call it across module boundaries.

The driver registers two distinct WMI devices: a control device
(BITLAND_WMI_CONTROL) and an event device (BITLAND_WMI_EVENT). During
the probe phase, the event device handling path returns early before
initializing the platform profile device (data->pp_dev), leaving it
NULL.
However, the PM sleep operations are registered globally for the WMI
driver and are triggered for both devices. When entering suspend, the
event device invokes bitland_mifs_wmi_suspend(), which passes the
uninitialized data->pp_dev (NULL) into laptop_profile_get(). This leads
to a NULL pointer dereference inside dev_get_drvdata(), causing a
kernel Oops and halting the suspend sequence.
Fix this by adding a validity check for data->pp_dev in both the suspend
and resume callbacks, safely skipping profile operations for the event
device.

`max_response` and `sensor_num` are read from different EC commands:
- `max_response` is from cros_ec_get_proto_info().
ec_dev->max_response = info->max_response_packet_size -
sizeof(struct ec_host_response);
- `sensor_num` is from cros_ec_get_sensor_count().
sensor_num = cros_ec_get_sensor_count(ec);
With a malfunctioning EC firmware, it is possible that the `msg->insize`
(i.e., `fifo_info_length` in the context) could be clamped in
cros_ec_cmd_xfer() because `msg->insize` is greater than `max_response`.
int fifo_info_length =
sizeof(struct ec_response_motion_sense_fifo_info) +
sizeof(u16) * sensorhub->sensor_num;
This means the number of read bytes could be less than expected. As a
result, the subsequent memcpy() in cros_ec_sensorhub_ring_handler()
overreads the `resp->fifo_info` buffer.
Check the return value of cros_ec_cmd_xfer_status() and abort if the
number of bytes read does not match the expected length.

cros_typec_register_partner_pdos() copies the partner PDOs from the EC
TYPEC_STATUS response into the fixed caps_desc.pdo[PDO_MAX_OBJECTS] array.
memcpy(caps_desc.pdo, resp->source_cap_pdos,
sizeof(u32) * resp->source_cap_count);
...
memcpy(caps_desc.pdo, resp->sink_cap_pdos,
sizeof(u32) * resp->sink_cap_count);
PDO_MAX_OBJECTS is 7. source_cap_count and sink_cap_count are u8 fields
from the EC. The only check is that they are not both zero. If either is
larger than 7, the memcpy writes past the end of the array on the stack.
A count of 255 overflows it by about 1 KB. The EC source arrays are only
seven entries wide. A larger count reads past them too.
The ChromeOS EC firmware caps these counts today, so a compliant setup
does not hit this. The kernel should still validate these values rather
than trust them.
Validate the counts in cros_typec_register_partner_pdos() next to the
memcpy. Skip the PDO registration if either count is above PDO_MAX_OBJECTS.
The rest of cros_typec_handle_status() still runs so events are handled
and cleared.

Each EC FIFO event carries an 8-bit sensor number (in->sensor_num).
cros_ec_sensorhub_ring_handler() validates the FIFO event count, the
per-read count and the ring bound, but not the sensor number, which
cros_ec_sensor_ring_process_event() then uses unchecked to index
sensorhub->batch_state[] - allocated with only sensorhub->sensor_num
entries. A sensor number of sensor_num or larger is an out-of-bounds
read and write of batch_state[].
Validate the sensor number in the ring handler, where each event is read
from the EC, and drop a malformed event before it is used.

It was reported that suspend-then-hibernate stopped working with modern
systemd versions on AMD Cezanne systems. The reason for this breakage
was because systemd switched to using alarmtimer instead of the wakealarm
sysfs file.
On AMD Cezanne systems, amd_pmc_verify_czn_rtc() programs a secondary
timer with the alarm time. This was introduced by
commit 59348401eb ("platform/x86: amd-pmc: Add special handling for
timer based S0i3 wakeup"). However, this function uses rtc_read_alarm(),
which only reads the aie_timer, not the next expiring timer from the
timerqueue.
When both alarmtimer and wakealarm are active, the first expiring timer
might be the alarmtimer, but amd_pmc_verify_czn_rtc() would only see
the aie_timer, potentially missing the earlier alarm.
Switch to rtc_read_next_alarm() to read whichever timer will fire next.
Also handle -ENOENT (no alarm pending) explicitly as a non-error case.

The SSRAM telemetry driver extracts essential PMC device ID and power
management base address information that intel_pmc_core depends on for core
functionality. If PMT registration failure prevents this critical data from
being available, intel_pmc_core operation would break entirely. Therefore,
PMT registration failures must not block access to this data.
Change the behavior to log a warning when PMT registration fails but
continue with successful driver initialization, ensuring the primary
telemetry data remains accessible to dependent drivers.

Prepare the SSRAM telemetry driver for ACPI-based discovery by adding
support for reading telemetry regions from ACPI _DSD properties.
Add pmc_ssram_telemetry_acpi_init() to parse _DSD for telemetry discovery
tables and register them with the Intel VSEC framework. Extend ssram_type
with a p_index field to specify which PMC index each ACPI device owns
(unlike PCI which discovers all three PMCs from one device).
At this stage, no platform IDs are wired to use ACPI discovery - existing
devices continue using the PCI path. Follow-on patches will add platform
support.

Replace devm-allocated pmc_ssram_telems pointer with a fixed-size static
array and introduce per-index probe state tracking.
This prepares the driver for later per-device probe handling where tying
the PMC tracking storage to one probed PCI device is no longer suitable.
The previous single global device_probed flag cannot describe the state of
individual PMC indices when multiple devices can be probed independently.
Replace it with per-index state (UNPROBED, PROBING, PRESENT, ABSENT) and a
staging cache that publishes discovered values only after probe completes.
This avoids races between probe/unbind and concurrent readers.
Use marked state accesses with release/acquire ordering to prevent compiler
and CPU reordering issues across concurrent probe/unbind cycles.
This patch was substantially rewritten in later revisions. Originally
developed from earlier work by Xi Pardee.

Allow the PMT class to read discovery headers from either PCI MMIO or
ACPI-provided entries, depending on the discovery source. The new
source-aware fetch helper caches the canonical discovery header for both
paths, capping PCI MMIO reads to the mapped resource size, while keeping
the mapped PCI discovery table available for users such as crashlog.
Split intel_pmt_populate_entry() into source-specific resolvers:
- pmt_resolve_access_pci(): handles both ACCESS_LOCAL and ACCESS_BARID
for PCI-backed devices and sets entry->pcidev. Same existing
functionality.
- pmt_resolve_access_acpi(): handles only ACCESS_BARID for ACPI-backed
devices, rejecting ACCESS_LOCAL which has no valid semantics without
a physical discovery resource.
This maintains existing PCI behavior and makes no functional changes

pmt_telem_header_decode() only needs the discovery header dwords, but it
currently decodes them by reading directly from entry->disc_table.
Cache the discovery header in intel_pmt_entry when the device is created
and have telemetry decode use the cached values instead of performing MMIO
reads at decode time.
The DVSEC discovery resource for a namespace is sized by its per-entry
entry_size (in dwords), which can be less than the 4-dword cache (e.g.
telemetry uses entry_size = 3, i.e. 12 bytes). Cap the memcpy_fromio()
to resource_size(disc_res) so the new cache does not read past the
mapped region. Any unread dwords stay zero from the zero-initialized
allocation of the containing struct.
This keeps the telemetry header decode path independent of how the
discovery data is backed and avoids baking a direct MMIO assumption into
the feature-specific decode logic.

resource when creating entries. This allows the class to identify the

array_index_nospec() after the check so every caller that reaches
hsmp_pdev.sock[] through this helper sees a clamped socket
index—including hsmp_ioctl_msg() and any other path that hands a
user-derived struct hsmp_message to hsmp_send_message().

The ECs in the IdeaPads that need the delay_suspend quirk send lots
of messages when charging, which not only causes intermediate wakeups
when suspended, but also prevents the device from reaching the deepest
suspend state.
Because of this amd_pmc_intermediate_wakeup_need_delay() returns false
during intermediate wakeups and amd_pmc_want_suspend_delay() is called.
So far it always logged its "Delaying suspend by 2.5s ..." messages
then, which spams dmesg. This commit makes sure that those messages are
only logged once per suspend.

Enabling the new delay_suspend module parameter delays suspend for
2.5 seconds which is known to help for some AMD-based Lenovo Laptops
that otherwise failed to send/receive events for key presses or the
lid switch after s2idle. Apparently the EC needs to do some things
in the background before suspend or it gets into a bad state.
There are many reports of AMD-based laptops (mostly but not exclusively
IdeaPads) about similar issues on the web; this parameter gives
affected users an easy way to try out if their issues have the same
root cause and to work around them until their specific device is added
to the quirks list.
The parameter description has a note encouraging users to report
their device so it can be added to the quirks list, inspired by a
similar request in parameter descriptions of the ideapad-laptop module.
The module parameter can be set to "1" to explicitly enable it,
"0" to disable it even on devices that are assumed to be affected,
or -1 (the default) to enable it if the device is assumed to be affected
(according to fwbug_list[])

Some IdeaPad Slim 3 devices and similar with AMD CPUs have a
nonfunctional keyboard and lid switch after s2idle.
It helps to delay suspend by 2.5 seconds so the EC has some time
to do whatever it needs to get done before suspend - unfortunately
at least on my 16ABR8 waking it with a timer (wakealarm) still
triggers the issue, but at least normal resume via keypress or
lid works fine. On the 14ARP10 wakealarm has been reported to also
work fine with this patch.
This issue has been reported for many different devices, this patch
has been tested with the Zen3-based IdeaPad Slim 3 16ABR8 (82XR)
and the Zen3+-based IdeaPad Slim 3 14ARP10 (83K6) and IdeaPad Slim 3
15ARP10 (83MM).

Add TDP power limits and fan curve requirements for the ASUS ROG Strix
G16 G614PR laptop model.
The ASUS ROG Strix G16 G614PR requires specific AC/DC power limits
(PPT PL1/PL2/PL3, dynamic boost, and NV TGP targets) to function
correctly under various power profiles. Without these limits, the Asus
Armoury driver cannot configure the correct power envelopes or enable custom
fan curves, leading to suboptimal performance or noise management.
This patch adds the corresponding DMI board name matching entry ("G614PR")
under the power_limits table in asus-armoury.h, populating the AC and DC
limits based on the platform's hardware specification.

ASUS laptops. The EC fires WMI notify code 0xB4 on insert/remove events.
Expose the current insert state via a sysfs attribute by querying WMI
device ID 0x00120091 (DSTS). This devid does not follow the standard DSTS

feature presence, and STATUS_BIT is never set. Presence of a keystone slot

When the last CPU of a legacy uncore die goes offline,
uncore_freq_remove_die_entry() clears control_cpu. During CPU hotplug
re-add, uncore_freq_add_entry() still populates sysfs attributes before
assigning the new control CPU. As a result, the current frequency read
returns -ENXIO and current_freq_khz is omitted from the recreated sysfs
group.
Assign control_cpu before the initial read paths and before
create_attr_group() so sysfs recreation uses the new online CPU. If
sysfs creation fails, restore control_cpu to -1 to keep the error path
state consistent.

Since commit e2ffcda162 ("ACPI: OSL: Allow Notify () handlers to run on
all CPUs") ACPI notify handlers like the intel-hid notify_handler() may
run on multiple CPU cores racing with themselves.
On convertibles and detachables (matched by DMI chassis-type 31 and 32 in
dmi_auto_add_switch[]) the SW_TABLET_MODE input device is registered
lazily from notify_handler() on the first tablet-mode event, via
intel_hid_switches_setup(). When two such events race on different CPUs
both can pass the !priv->switches check and register the priv->switches
input device twice, resulting in a duplicate sysfs entry and a subsequent
NULL pointer dereference.
This is the same class of bug fixed by commit e075c3b13a ("platform/x86:
intel-vbtn: Protect ACPI notify handler against recursion") for the
sibling intel-vbtn driver.
Protect intel-hid notify_handler() from racing with itself with a mutex
to fix this.

The base_addr refactor changed intel_vsec_walk_header() to pass
info->base_addr as the discovery-table base address. For the PCI VSEC
driver this info comes from driver_data, but exported callers may provide
their own static headers and leave base_addr unset.
For xe, this made the discovery-table base address zero instead of the BAR
selected by header->tbir, preventing PMT endpoints from being created.
Restore the previous behavior for the header-walk path by falling back to
pci_resource_start(pdev, header->tbir) when base_addr is not specified.
Keep explicit base_addr override behavior unchanged.
This preserves the refactor structure while fixing the functional
regression in manual-header users.
