Merge tag 'pci-v7.3-changes' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/pci/pci
Pull PCI updates from Bjorn Helgaas:
"Resource management:
- Add hotplug reservation only once (not at each level of the
hierarchy) so bridge windows don't grow more than necessary (Ilpo
Järvinen)
Driver binding:
- Rework device matching so device ID lifetime only needs to cover
the probe path since dynamic IDs can be removed at any time (Gary
Guo)
Error handling:
- Update mappings of AER errors to agent & layer and log them for
each individual error when multiple errors detected (Lukas Wunner)
- Log Error Source only once, not twice in separate messages (Lukas
Wunner)
- Emit TLP Log only for unmasked errors (Lukas Wunner)
- Support Advisory Non-Fatal Errors (Lukas Wunner)
- Allow DPC on all Downstream Ports, not just Root Ports, when OS
controls AER (Darshit Shah)
ASPM:
- Program the same ASPM Control values for every function of
multi-function devices, as recommended by the PCIe spec (Krishna
Chaitanya Chundru)
- Avoid L0s for Realtek RTS525A, where it causes an AER interrupt
storm (Max Lee)
- Avoid ASPM L0s, L1, and L1 PM Substates based on 'aspm-no-l0s',
'aspm-no-l1' [1], and 'aspm-no-l1ss' DT properties (Krishna
Chaitanya Chundru)
Power management:
- Allow D3 for native hotplug-capable Root Ports on non-x86 platforms
(we avoid D3 for these ports on x86 because some old platforms
didn't validate it) (Manivannan Sadhasivam)
- Allow portdrv to claim Ports even if they don't support services
(AER, PME, DPC, hotplug, etc) so it can do power management (Brian
Norris)
Power control:
- Add support for PCIe WAKE# interrupt when described via DT (Krishna
Chaitanya Chundru)
- For the TC9563 PCIe switch:
- Take a reference on the I2C adapter to avoid uninterruptible
hang when unloading an I2C module while in-use (Johan Hovold)
- Update DT binding and driver to restrict Tx Amplitude, DFE and
N_FTS to USP, DSP1 and DSP2 (Manivannan Sadhasivam)
- Power off only external-facing ports (DSP1, DSP2), leaving USP
and DSP3 (aka VDSP) powered up (Manivannan Sadhasivam)
- Move integrated MAC Endpoint out of the list of internal ports
and configure it separately (Manivannan Sadhasivam)
Virtualization:
- Add ACS quirk for Pericom PI7C9X2G608 switches (Tim Harvey)
- Fix a long-standing bug in the Intel PCH Root Port MPC ACS quirk
that didn't update the intended INTEL_MPC_REG_IRBNCE bit because it
used a 16-bit config write when a 32-bit write was intended
(Mohamad Raizudeen)
Procfs:
- Avoid spurious runtime PM wakeup on config space accesses that are
outside config space and fail before reaching PCI (Krzysztof
Wilczyński)
- Warn on user-space writes to kernel-exclusive config space regions,
as we already do for sysfs (Krzysztof Wilczyński)
- Check credentials of opener, not reader, for config space reads, as
we already do for sysfs (Krzysztof Wilczyński)
Sysfs:
- In pci_write_legacy_io(), avoid out-of-bounds reads from the user
buffer and fix incorrect ioport write data (1-byte writes on
little-endian powerpc, 2- and 4-byte writes on big-endian powerpc)
(Krzysztof Wilczyński)
- In pci_read_legacy_io(), fix incorrect ioport read data for 2- and
4-byte reads on big-endian powerpc (Krzysztof Wilczyński)
- Fix I/O port accessor argument order in Alpha pci_legacy_write()
(Krzysztof Wilczyński)
- Avoid spurious runtime PM wakeup on config space accesses that are
outside config space and fail before reaching PCI (Krzysztof
Wilczyński)
- Return -EINVAL, not -ENODEV, for mmap of I/O BAR that fails because
the arch doesn't support it, as we do for procfs (Krzysztof
Wilczyński)
- Check for LOCKDOWN_PCI_ACCESS for legacy_io and legacy_mem, as we
do for other config space accessors (Krzysztof Wilczyński)
Peer-to-peer DMA:
- Add Nvidia Vera Rubin to list of platforms that support P2PDMA
(Leon Romanovsky)

PCI: acpiphp_ibm: Do not use uninitialized device_class
Passing an uninitialized pnp.device_class string to acpi_bus_generate_netlink_event() is effectively equivalent to passing an empty string literal to it. Accordingly, make the driver do the latter instead of doing the former. No intentional functional impact. This will facilitate the removal of device_class from struct acpi_device_pnp in the future. PCI: Allow all bus devices to use the same slot
A PCIe hotplug slot applies to the entire secondary bus. Thus, pciehp only
allocates a single hotplug_slot for the bridge to that bus. The existing
PCI slot, though, would only match to functions on device 0, meaning any
devices beyond that, e.g., ARI functions, are not matched to any slot even
though they share it. A slot reset will break all the missing devices
because the handling skips them.
For example, ARI devices with more than 8 functions fail because their
state is not properly handled, nor is the attached driver notified of the
reset. In the best case, the device will appear unresponsive to the driver,
resulting in unexpected errors. A worse possibility may panic the kernel if
in-flight transactions trigger hardware reported errors like this real
observation:

GHES: Fatal hardware error but panic disabled
Kernel panic - not syncing: GHES: Fatal hardware error
Allow a slot to be created to claim all devices on a bus, not just a
matching device. This is done by introducing a sentinel value, named
PCI_SLOT_ALL_DEVICES, which then has the PCI slot match to any device on
the bus. This fixes slot resets for pciehp.
Since 0xff already has special meaning, the chosen value for this new
feature is 0xfe. This will not clash with any actual slot number since they
are limited to 5 bits.

Convert more 'alloc_obj' cases to default GFP_KERNEL arguments
This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next line. Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial. So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed' scripts. The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want whitespace cleanup anyway. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> |

Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org> |

PCI: Add WQ_PERCPU to alloc_workqueue() users
Currently work items enqueued by schedule_delayed_work() use "system_wq" (a per-CPU wq), while queue_delayed_work() uses WORK_CPU_UNBOUND (used when a CPU is not specified). The same applies to schedule_work() that is using system_wq and queue_work(), that makes use again of WORK_CPU_UNBOUND. This lack of consistency cannot be addressed without refactoring the API. alloc_workqueue() treats all queues as per-CPU by default, while unbound workqueues must opt-in via WQ_UNBOUND. This default is suboptimal: most workloads benefit from unbound queues, allowing the scheduler to place worker threads where they're needed and reducing noise when CPUs are isolated. This continues the effort to refactor workqueue APIs, which began with the introduction of new workqueues and a new alloc_workqueue() flag in: |

The KMSG_COMPONENT macro is a leftover of the s390 specific "kernel message catalog" which never made it upstream. Remove the macro in order to get rid of a pointless indirection. Replace all users with the string it defines. In almost all cases this leads to a simple replacement like this: - #define KMSG_COMPONENT "appldata" - #define pr_fmt(fmt) KMSG_COMPONENT ": " fmt + #define pr_fmt(fmt) "appldata: " fmt Except for some special cases this is just mechanical/scripted work. PCI: pciehp: Use is_pciehp instead of is_hotplug_bridge
The PCIe hotplug driver calculates the depth of a nested hotplug port by looking at the is_hotplug_bridge flag. The depth is used as lockdep class to tell hotplug ports apart. The is_hotplug_bridge flag encompasses ACPI slots handled by the ACPI hotplug driver, hence the calculated depth may be too high. Avoid by checking the is_pciehp flag instead. This glitch likely has no user-visible impact: ACPI slots typically only exist at the Root Port level, not in nested hotplug hierarchies. Also, CONFIG_LOCKDEP is usually only used by developers. So this is just for the sake of correctness. PCI: pnv_php: Fix surprise plug detection and recovery
The existing PowerNV hotplug code did not handle surprise plug events
correctly, leading to a complete failure of the hotplug system after device
removal and a required reboot to detect new devices.
This comes down to two issues:
1) When a device is surprise removed, often the bridge upstream
port will cause a PE freeze on the PHB. If this freeze is not
cleared, the MSI interrupts from the bridge hotplug notification
logic will not be received by the kernel, stalling all plug events
on all slots associated with the PE.
2) When a device is removed from a slot, regardless of surprise or
programmatic removal, the associated PHB/PE ls left frozen.
If this freeze is not cleared via a fundamental reset, skiboot
is unable to clear the freeze and cannot retrain / rescan the
slot. This also requires a reboot to clear the freeze and redetect
the device in the slot.
Issue the appropriate unfreeze and rescan commands on hotplug events,
and don't oops on hotplug if pci_bus_to_OF_node() returns NULL.

PCI: pnv_php: Work around switches with broken presence detection
The Microsemi Switchtec PM8533 PFX 48xG3 [11f8:8533] PCIe switch system was observed to incorrectly assert the Presence Detect Set bit in its capabilities when tested on a Raptor Computing Systems Blackbird system, resulting in the hot insert path never attempting a rescan of the bus and any downstream devices not being re-detected. Work around this by additionally checking whether the PCIe data link is active or not when performing presence detection on downstream switches' ports, similar to the pciehp_hpc.c driver. PCI: pnv_php: Clean up allocated IRQs on unplug
When the root of a nested PCIe bridge configuration is unplugged, the pnv_php driver leaked the allocated IRQ resources for the child bridges' hotplug event notifications, resulting in a panic. Fix this by walking all child buses and deallocating all its IRQ resources before calling pci_hp_remove_devices(). Also modify the lifetime of the workqueue at struct pnv_php_slot::wq so that it is only destroyed in pnv_php_free_slot(), instead of pnv_php_disable_irq(). This is required since pnv_php_disable_irq() will now be called by workers triggered by hot unplug interrupts, so the workqueue needs to stay allocated. The abridged kernel panic that occurs without this patch is as follows: WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 687 at kernel/irq/msi.c:292 msi_device_data_release+0x6c/0x9c CPU: 0 UID: 0 PID: 687 Comm: bash Not tainted 6.14.0-rc5+ #2 Call Trace: msi_device_data_release+0x34/0x9c (unreliable) release_nodes+0x64/0x13c devres_release_all+0xc0/0x140 device_del+0x2d4/0x46c pci_destroy_dev+0x5c/0x194 pci_hp_remove_devices+0x90/0x128 pci_hp_remove_devices+0x44/0x128 pnv_php_disable_slot+0x54/0xd4 power_write_file+0xf8/0x18c pci_slot_attr_store+0x40/0x5c sysfs_kf_write+0x64/0x78 kernfs_fop_write_iter+0x1b0/0x290 vfs_write+0x3bc/0x50c ksys_write+0x84/0x140 system_call_exception+0x124/0x230 system_call_vectored_common+0x15c/0x2ec Signed-off-by: Shawn Anastasio <sanastasio@raptorengineering.com> Signed-off-by: Timothy Pearson <tpearson@raptorengineering.com> [bhelgaas: tidy comments] Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bhelgaas@google.com> Signed-off-by: Madhavan Srinivasan <maddy@linux.ibm.com> Link: https://patch.msgid.link/2013845045.1359852.1752615367790.JavaMail.zimbra@raptorengineeringinc.com |

- Revert 'iommu/amd: Prevent binding other PCI drivers to IOMMU PCI
devices', which broke resume from system sleep on AMD platforms and
has been fixed by other commits (Lukas Wunner)
Resource management:
- Remove mtip32xx use of pcim_iounmap_regions(), which is deprecated
and unnecessary (Philipp Stanner)
- Remove pcim_iounmap_regions() and pcim_request_region_exclusive()

- Rework devres 'request' functions so they are no longer 'hybrid',
i.e., their behavior no longer depends on whether
pcim_enable_device or pci_enable_device() was used, and remove
related code (Philipp Stanner)
- Warn (not BUG()) about failure to assign optional resources (Ilpo
Järvinen)
Error handling:
- Log the DPC Error Source ID only when it's actually valid (when
ERR_FATAL or ERR_NONFATAL was received from a downstream device)
and decode into bus/device/function (Bjorn Helgaas)
- Determine AER log level once and save it so all related messages
use the same level (Karolina Stolarek)
- Use KERN_WARNING, not KERN_ERR, when logging PCIe Correctable
Errors (Karolina Stolarek)
- Ratelimit PCIe Correctable and Non-Fatal error logging, with sysfs
controls on interval and burst count, to avoid flooding logs and
RCU stall warnings (Jon Pan-Doh)
Power management:
- Increment PM usage counter when probing reset methods so we don't
try to read config space of a powered-off device (Alex Williamson)
- Set all devices to D0 during enumeration to ensure ACPI opregion is
connected via _REG (Mario Limonciello)
Power control:
- Rename pwrctrl Kconfig symbols from 'PWRCTL' to 'PWRCTRL' to match
the filename paths. Retain old deprecated symbols for
compatibility, except for the pwrctrl slot driver
(PCI_PWRCTRL_SLOT) (Johan Hovold)
- When unregistering pwrctrl, cancel outstanding rescan work before
cleaning up data structures to avoid use-after-free issues (Brian
Norris)
Bandwidth control:
- Simplify link bandwidth controller by replacing the count of Link
Bandwidth Management Status (LBMS) events with a PCI_LINK_LBMS_SEEN
flag (Ilpo Järvinen)
- Update the Link Speed after retraining, since the Link Speed may
have changed (Ilpo Järvinen)
PCIe native device hotplug:
- Ignore Presence Detect Changed caused by DPC.
pciehp already ignores Link Down/Up events caused by DPC, but on
slots using in-band presence detect, DPC causes a spurious Presence
Detect Changed event (Lukas Wunner)
- Ignore Link Down/Up caused by Secondary Bus Reset.
On hotplug ports using in-band presence detect, the reset causes a
Presence Detect Changed event, which mistakenly caused teardown and
re-enumeration of the device. Drivers may need to annotate code
that resets their device (Lukas Wunner)
Virtualization:

s390/pci: Prevent self deletion in disable_slot()
As disable_slot() takes a struct zpci_dev from the Configured to the
Standby state. In Standby there is still a hotplug slot so this is not
usually a case of sysfs self deletion. This is important because self
deletion gets very hairy in terms of locking (see for example
recover_store() in arch/s390/pci/pci_sysfs.c).
Because the pci_dev_put() is not within the critical section of the
zdev->state_lock however, disable_slot() can turn into a case of self
deletion if zPCI device event handling slips between the mutex_unlock()
and the pci_dev_put(). If the latter is the last put and
zpci_release_device() is called this then tries to remove the hotplug
slot via zpci_exit_slot() which will try to remove the hotplug slot
directory the disable_slot() is part of i.e. self deletion.
Prevent this by widening the zdev->state_lock critical section to
include the pci_dev_put() which is then guaranteed to happen with the
struct zpci_dev still in Standby state ensuring it will not lead to
a zpci_release_device() call as at least the zPCI event handling code
still holds a reference.

PCI/bwctrl: Replace lbms_count with PCI_LINK_LBMS_SEEN flag
PCIe BW controller counted LBMS assertions for the purposes of the Target Speed quirk (pcie_failed_link_retrain()). It was also a plan to expose the LBMS count through sysfs to allow better diagnosing link related issues. Lukas Wunner suggested, however, that adding a trace event would be better for diagnostics purposes, leaving only pcie_failed_link_retrain() as a user of the lbms_count. The logic in pcie_failed_link_retrain() does not require keeping count of LBMS assertions, so replace lbms_count with a simple flag in pci_dev's priv_flags. The reduced complexity allows removing pcie_bwctrl_lbms_rwsem. Since pcie_failed_link_retrain() runs before bwctrl is probed during boot, the LBMS in Link Status register still has to be checked by the quirk. The priv_flags numbering is not continuous because hotplug code added a few flags to fill numbers 4-5 (hotplug and bwctrl changes are routed through in different branches). PCI: hotplug: Drop superfluous #include directives
In February 2003, historic commit https://git.kernel.org/tglx/history/c/280c1c9a0ea4 ("[PATCH] PCI Hotplug: Replace pcihpfs with sysfs.") removed all invocations of __get_free_page() and free_page() from the PCI hotplug core without also removing the #include <linux/pagemap.h> directive. It removed all invocations of kern_mount(), mntget() and mntput() without also removing the #include <linux/mount.h> directive. It removed all invocations of lookup_hash() without also removing the #include <linux/namei.h> directive. It removed all invocations of copy_to_user() and copy_from_user() without also removing the #include <linux/uaccess.h> directive. These #include directives are still unnecessary today, so drop them. PCI: pciehp: Avoid unnecessary device replacement check
Hot-removal of nested PCI hotplug ports suffers from a long-standing race condition which can lead to a deadlock: A parent hotplug port acquires pci_lock_rescan_remove(), then waits for pciehp to unbind from a child hotplug port. Meanwhile that child hotplug port tries to acquire pci_lock_rescan_remove() as well in order to remove its own children. The deadlock only occurs if the parent acquires pci_lock_rescan_remove() first, not if the child happens to acquire it first. Several workarounds to avoid the issue have been proposed and discarded over the years, e.g.: https://lore.kernel.org/r/4c882e25194ba8282b78fe963fec8faae7cf23eb.1529173804.git.lukas@wunner.de/ A proper fix is being worked on, but needs more time as it is nontrivial and necessarily intrusive. PCI: hotplug: Drop superfluous NULL pointer checks in has_*_file()
The PCI hotplug core contains five has_*_file() functions to determine
whether a certain sysfs file shall be added (or removed) for a given
hotplug slot.
The functions perform NULL pointer checks for the hotplug_slot and its
hotplug_slot_ops. However the callers already perform these checks:
pci_hp_register()
__pci_hp_register()
__pci_hp_initialize()
pci_hp_deregister()
pci_hp_del()
The only way to actually trigger these checks is to call pci_hp_add()
without having called pci_hp_initialize().
Amend pci_hp_add() to catch that and drop the now superfluous NULL
pointer checks in has_*_file().
Drop the same superfluous checks from pci_hp_create_module_link(),
which is (only) called from pci_hp_add().

PCI: hotplug: Drop superfluous try_module_get() calls
In December 2002, historic commit https://git.kernel.org/tglx/history/c/bec7aa00ffe5 ("[PATCH] more module warning fixes") amended the PCI hotplug core to acquire a reference on the hotplug driver module when a sysfs attribute is accessed. That was necessary because back in the day, sysfs code did not take any precautions to prevent module unloading when an attribute was accessed. Soon after in July 2003, historic commit https://git.kernel.org/tglx/history/c/1cf6d20f6078 ("[PATCH] SYSFS: add module referencing to sysfs attribute files.") addressed that deficiency. But the commit neglected to remove the now unnecessary reference acquisition from the PCI hotplug core. The commit acquired a module reference for the entire duration between open() and close() of a sysfs attribute. This made it impossible to unload a module while attributes were kept open by user space. That's possible today: When a hotplug driver module is unloaded, it removes sysfs attributes of all its hotplug slots by calling pci_hp_del(). This will wait for any concurrent user space operation to finish: pci_hp_del() fs_remove_slot() sysfs_remove_file() sysfs_remove_file_ns() kernfs_remove_by_name_ns() __kernfs_remove() kernfs_drain() A user space operation such as read() briefly acquires a reference on the attribute with kernfs_get_active(). kernfs_drain() waits until all such references are released before allowing attribute removal. Once the attribute is removed, any subsequent user space operation on a still open attribute file will return -ENODEV. Thus, reference acquisition by the PCI hotplug core is still unnecessary today. So drop it at long last. PCI: hotplug: Drop superfluous pci_hotplug_slot_list
The PCI hotplug core keeps a list of all registered slots. Its sole
purpose is to WARN() on slot removal if another slot is using the same
name.
But this can never happen because already on slot creation, an error is
returned and multiple messages are emitted if a slot's name is
duplicated:
pci_hp_register()
__pci_hp_register()
__pci_hp_initialize()
pci_create_slot()
kobject_init_and_add()
kobject_add_varg()
kobject_add_internal()
create_dir()
sysfs_create_dir_ns()
kernfs_create_dir_ns()
sysfs_warn_dup()
pr_warn("cannot create duplicate filename ...")
pr_err("%s failed for %s with -EEXIST, ...");
Drop the superfluous list.

PCI: cpcihp: Remove unused .get_power() and .set_power()
The .get_power() and .set_power() function pointers in struct cpci_hp_controller_ops were declared but never implemented by any driver. Thus, to improve code readability and reduce resource usage, remove these pointers and the code that has never been used.
