Aloka originally suggested that puncturing should be part of
the chandef, so that it's treated correctly. At the time, I
disagreed and it ended up not part of the chandef, but I've
now realized that this was wrong. Even for clients, the RX,
and perhaps more importantly, CCA configuration needs to take
puncturing into account.
Move puncturing into the chandef, and adjust all the code
accordingly. Also add a few tests for puncturing in chandef
compatibility checking.

There are still surprisingly many non-chanctx drivers, but in
mac80211 that code is a bit awkward. Simplify this by having
those drivers assign 'emulated' ops, so that the mac80211 code
can be more unified between non-chanctx/chanctx drivers. This
cuts the number of places caring about it by about 15, which
are scattered across - now they're fewer and no longer in the
channel context handling.

debugfs_create_dir() returns ERR_PTR and never return NULL.
As Russell suggested, this patch removes the error checking for
debugfs_create_dir(). This is because the DebugFS kernel API is developed
in a way that the caller can safely ignore the errors that occur during
the creation of DebugFS nodes. The debugfs APIs have a IS_ERR() judge in
start_creating() which can handle it gracefully. So these checks are
unnecessary.

There is usbdrv_wrap in struct usb_driver and usb_device_driver, it
contains device_driver and for_devices. for_devices is used to
distinguish between device drivers and interface drivers.
Like the is_usb_device(), it tests the type of the device. We can test
that if the probe of device_driver is equal to usb_probe_device in
is_usb_device_driver(), and then the struct usbdrv_wrap is no longer
needed.
Clean up struct usbdrv_wrap, use device_driver directly in struct
usb_driver and usb_device_driver. This makes the code cleaner.

AP BSSID configuration is missing at AP start. Without this fix, FW returns
STA interface MAC address after first init. When hostapd restarts, it gets MAC
address from netdev before driver sets STA MAC to netdev again. Now MAC address
between hostapd and net interface are different causes STA cannot connect to
AP. After that MAC address of uap0 mlan0 become the same. And issue disappears
after following hostapd restart (another issue is AP/STA MAC address become the
same).
This patch fixes the issue cleanly.

Commit 4b478bf6bd ("wifi: libertas: drop 16-bit PCMCIA support") reworks
the dependencies for config LIBERTAS, and adds alternative dependencies for
USB, SDIO and SPI.
The config option SDIO however does not exist in the kernel tree. It was
probably intended to refer to the config option MMC, which represents
"MMC/SD/SDIO card support" and is used as dependency by various other
drivers that use SDIO.
Fix the dependency to the config option MMC for declaring the requirement
on provision of SDIO support.

In a TLV encoding scheme, the Length part represents the length after
the header containing the values for type and length. In this case,
`tlv_len` should be:
tlv_len == (sizeof(*tlv_rxba) - 1) - sizeof(tlv_rxba->header) + tlv_bitmap_len
Notice that the `- 1` accounts for the one-element array `bitmap`, which
1-byte size is already included in `sizeof(*tlv_rxba)`.
So, if the above is correct, there is a double-counting of some members
in `struct mwifiex_ie_types_rxba_sync`, when `tlv_buf_left` and `tmp`
are calculated:
968 tlv_buf_left -= (sizeof(*tlv_rxba) + tlv_len);
969 tmp = (u8 *)tlv_rxba + tlv_len + sizeof(*tlv_rxba);
in specific, members:

777 u8 mac[ETH_ALEN];
778 u8 tid;
779 u8 reserved;
780 __le16 seq_num;
781 __le16 bitmap_len;
This is clearly wrong, and affects the subsequent decoding of data in
`event_buf` through `tlv_rxba`:
970 tlv_rxba = (struct mwifiex_ie_types_rxba_sync *)tmp;
Fix this by using `sizeof(tlv_rxba->header)` instead of `sizeof(*tlv_rxba)`
in the calculation of `tlv_buf_left` and `tmp`.
This results in the following binary differences before/after changes:

Allow moving the wiphy device for mwififex to a non-inital network
namespace. Many wireless drivers enable this flag implicitly by
initializing through the generic ieee80211_alloc_hw_nm function. As
mwifiex does not utilize this function WIPHY_FLAG_NETNS_OK must be set
explicitly.
Moving to network namespace and working connection tested using
wpa_supplicant from a network namespace as well as from a container on
GyroidOS. The hardware was the Toradex Apalis i.MX8QM Board using the
Azurewave AW-CM276NF wireless module.

When compiling with gcc 13.1 and CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE=y,
I've noticed the following:
In function ‘fortify_memcpy_chk’,
inlined from ‘mwifiex_construct_tdls_action_frame’ at drivers/net/wireless/marvell/mwifiex/tdls.c:765:3,
inlined from ‘mwifiex_send_tdls_action_frame’ at drivers/net/wireless/marvell/mwifiex/tdls.c:856:6:
./include/linux/fortify-string.h:529:25: warning: call to ‘__read_overflow2_field’
declared with attribute warning: detected read beyond size of field (2nd parameter);
maybe use struct_group()? [-Wattribute-warning]
529 | __read_overflow2_field(q_size_field, size);
| ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The compiler actually complains on:
memmove(pos + ETH_ALEN, &mgmt->u.action.category,
sizeof(mgmt->u.action.u.tdls_discover_resp));
and it happens because the fortification logic interprets this
as an attempt to overread 1-byte 'u.action.category' member of
'struct ieee80211_mgmt'. To silence this warning, it's enough
to pass an address of 'u.action' itself instead of an address
of its first member.
This also fixes an improper usage of 'sizeof()'. Since 'skb' is
extended with 'sizeof(mgmt->u.action.u.tdls_discover_resp) + 1'
bytes (where 1 is actually 'sizeof(mgmt->u.action.category)'),
I assume that the same number of bytes should be copied.

Core
----
- Rework the sendpage & splice implementations. Instead of feeding
data into sockets page by page extend sendmsg handlers to support
taking a reference on the data, controlled by a new flag called
MSG_SPLICE_PAGES. Rework the handling of unexpected-end-of-file
to invoke an additional callback instead of trying to predict what
the right combination of MORE/NOTLAST flags is.
Remove the MSG_SENDPAGE_NOTLAST flag completely.
- Implement SCM_PIDFD, a new type of CMSG type analogous to
SCM_CREDENTIALS, but it contains pidfd instead of plain pid.
- Enable socket busy polling with CONFIG_RT.
- Improve reliability and efficiency of reporting for ref_tracker.
- Auto-generate a user space C library for various Netlink families.
Protocols
---------
- Allow TCP to shrink the advertised window when necessary, prevent
sk_rcvbuf auto-tuning from growing the window all the way up to
tcp_rmem[2].
- Use per-VMA locking for "page-flipping" TCP receive zerocopy.
- Prepare TCP for device-to-device data transfers, by making sure
that payloads are always attached to skbs as page frags.
- Make the backoff time for the first N TCP SYN retransmissions
linear. Exponential backoff is unnecessarily conservative.
- Create a new MPTCP getsockopt to retrieve all info (MPTCP_FULL_INFO).
- Avoid waking up applications using TLS sockets until we have
a full record.
- Allow using kernel memory for protocol ioctl callbacks, paving
the way to issuing ioctls over io_uring.
- Add nolocalbypass option to VxLAN, forcing packets to be fully
encapsulated even if they are destined for a local IP address.
- Make TCPv4 use consistent hash in TIME_WAIT and SYN_RECV. Ensure
in-kernel ECMP implementation (e.g. Open vSwitch) select the same
link for all packets. Support L4 symmetric hashing in Open vSwitch.
- PPPoE: make number of hash bits configurable.
- Allow DNS to be overwritten by DHCPACK in the in-kernel DHCP client
(ipconfig).
- Add layer 2 miss indication and filtering, allowing higher layers
(e.g. ACL filters) to make forwarding decisions based on whether
packet matched forwarding state in lower devices (bridge).
- Support matching on Connectivity Fault Management (CFM) packets.
- Hide the "link becomes ready" IPv6 messages by demoting their
printk level to debug.
- HSR: don't enable promiscuous mode if device offloads the proto.
- Support active scanning in IEEE 802.15.4.
- Continue work on Multi-Link Operation for WiFi 7.
BPF
---
- Add precision propagation for subprogs and callbacks. This allows
maintaining verification efficiency when subprograms are used,
or in fact passing the verifier at all for complex programs,
especially those using open-coded iterators.
- Improve BPF's {g,s}setsockopt() length handling. Previously BPF
assumed the length is always equal to the amount of written data.
But some protos allow passing a NULL buffer to discover what
the output buffer *should* be, without writing anything.
- Accept dynptr memory as memory arguments passed to helpers.
- Add routing table ID to bpf_fib_lookup BPF helper.
- Support O_PATH FDs in BPF_OBJ_PIN and BPF_OBJ_GET commands.
- Drop bpf_capable() check in BPF_MAP_FREEZE command (used to mark
maps as read-only).
- Show target_{obj,btf}_id in tracing link fdinfo.
- Addition of several new kfuncs (most of the names are self-explanatory):
- Add a set of new dynptr kfuncs: bpf_dynptr_adjust(),
bpf_dynptr_is_null(), bpf_dynptr_is_rdonly(), bpf_dynptr_size()
and bpf_dynptr_clone().
- bpf_task_under_cgroup()
- bpf_sock_destroy() - force closing sockets
- bpf_cpumask_first_and(), rework bpf_cpumask_any*() kfuncs
Netfilter
---------
- Relax set/map validation checks in nf_tables. Allow checking
presence of an entry in a map without using the value.
- Increase ip_vs_conn_tab_bits range for 64BIT builds.
- Allow updating size of a set.
- Improve NAT tuple selection when connection is closing.
Driver API
----------
- Integrate netdev with LED subsystem, to allow configuring HW
"offloaded" blinking of LEDs based on link state and activity
(i.e. packets coming in and out).
- Support configuring rate selection pins of SFP modules.
- Factor Clause 73 auto-negotiation code out of the drivers, provide
common helper routines.
- Add more fool-proof helpers for managing lifetime of MDIO devices
associated with the PCS layer.
- Allow drivers to report advanced statistics related to Time Aware
scheduler offload (taprio).
- Allow opting out of VF statistics in link dump, to allow more VFs
to fit into the message.
- Split devlink instance and devlink port operations.

A fairly standard release for SPI with the exception of a change to the
API for specifying chip selects done in preparation for supporting
devices with more than one chip select, this required some mechanical
changes throughout the tree which have been cooking in -next happily for
a while. There's also a new API to allow us to TPM chips on half duplex
controllers.
There's three commits in here that were mangled by a bad interaction
between the alsa-devel mailing list software and b4, I didn't notice
until there were merges on top with it being SPI not ALSA. It seemed
clear enough to not be worth going back and fixing.
- Refactoring in preparation for supporting multiple chip selects for a
single device, needed by some flash devices, which required a change
in the SPI device API visible throughout the tree.
- Support for hardware assisted interaction with SPI TPMs on half
duplex controllers, implemented on nVidia Tedra210 QuadSPI.
- Optimisation for large transfers on fsl-cpm devices.
- Cleanups around device property use which fix some sisues with
fwnode.
- Use of both void remove() and devm_platform_.*ioremap_resource().
- Support for AMD Pensando Elba, Amlogic A1, Cadence device mode,
Intel MetorLake-S and StarFive J7110 QuadSPI.
The final commit converting to DEV_PM_OPS() was applied late to fix a
warning that was introduced by some of the earlier work.

Supporting multi-cs in spi drivers would require the chip_select & cs_gpiod
members of struct spi_device to be an array. But changing the type of these
members to array would break the spi driver functionality. To make the
transition smoother introduced four new APIs to get/set the
spi->chip_select & spi->cs_gpiod and replaced all spi->chip_select and
spi->cs_gpiod references with get or set API calls.
While adding multi-cs support in further patches the chip_select & cs_gpiod
members of the spi_device structure would be converted to arrays & the
"idx" parameter of the APIs would be used as array index i.e.,
spi->chip_select[idx] & spi->cs_gpiod[idx] respectively.

The current mac80211 mesh A-MSDU receive path fails to parse A-MSDU packets
on mesh interfaces, because it assumes that the Mesh Control field is always
directly after the 802.11 header.
802.11-2020 9.3.2.2.2 Figure 9-70 shows that the Mesh Control field is
actually part of the A-MSDU subframe header.
This makes more sense, since it allows packets for multiple different
destinations to be included in the same A-MSDU, as long as RA and TID are
still the same.
Another issue is the fact that the A-MSDU subframe length field was apparently
accidentally defined as little-endian in the standard.
In order to fix this, the mesh forwarding path needs happen at a different
point in the receive path.
ieee80211_data_to_8023_exthdr is changed to ignore the mesh control field
and leave it in after the ethernet header. This also affects the source/dest
MAC address fields, which now in the case of mesh point to the mesh SA/DA.
ieee80211_amsdu_to_8023s is changed to deal with the endian difference and
to add the Mesh Control length to the subframe length, since it's not covered
by the MSDU length field.
With these changes, the mac80211 will get the same packet structure for
converted regular data packets and unpacked A-MSDU subframes.
The mesh forwarding checks are now only performed after the A-MSDU decap.
For locally received packets, the Mesh Control header is stripped away.
For forwarded packets, a new 802.11 header gets added.

The Marvell SD8978 (aka NXP IW416) uses identical registers as SD8987,
so reuse the existing mwifiex_reg_sd8987 definition.
Note that mwifiex_reg_sd8977 and mwifiex_reg_sd8997 are likewise
identical, save for the fw_dump_ctrl register: They define it as 0xf0
whereas mwifiex_reg_sd8987 defines it as 0xf9. I've verified that
0xf9 is the correct value on SD8978. NXP's out-of-tree driver uses
0xf9 for all of them, so there's a chance that 0xf0 is not correct
in the mwifiex_reg_sd8977 and mwifiex_reg_sd8997 definitions. I cannot
test that for lack of hardware, hence am leaving it as is.
NXP has only released a firmware which runs Bluetooth over UART.
Perhaps Bluetooth over SDIO is unsupported by this chipset.
Consequently, only an "sdiouart" firmware image is referenced, not an
alternative "sdsd" image.

The existing code only converts the first IE to a TLV, but it returns a
value that takes the length of all IEs into account. When there is more
than one IE (which happens with modern wpa_supplicant versions for
example), the returned length is too long and extra junk TLVs get sent
to the firmware, resulting in an association failure.
Fix this by finding the first RSN or WPA IE and only adding that. This
has the extra benefit of working properly if the RSN/WPA IE isn't the
first one in the IE buffer.
While we're at it, clean up the code to use the available structs like
the other lbs_add_* functions instead of directly manipulating the TLV
buffer.

strtobool() is the same as kstrtobool().
However, the latter is more used within the kernel.
In order to remove strtobool() and slightly simplify kstrtox.h, switch to
the other function name.
While at it, include the corresponding header file (<linux/kstrtox.h>)

The prandom_u32() function has been a deprecated inline wrapper around
get_random_u32() for several releases now, and compiles down to the
exact same code. Replace the deprecated wrapper with a direct call to
the real function. The same also applies to get_random_int(), which is
just a wrapper around get_random_u32(). This was done as a basic find
and replace.

There are sleep in atomic context bugs when uploading device dump
data in mwifiex. The root cause is that dev_coredumpv could not
be used in atomic contexts, because it calls dev_set_name which
include operations that may sleep. The call tree shows execution
paths that could lead to bugs:

[ 135.389205] usb 1-1: == mwifiex dump information to /sys/class/devcoredump end

that may sleep into a delayed work in order to mitigate bugs, it was
tested on Marvell 88W8801 chip whose port is usb and the firmware is
usb8801_uapsta.bin. The following is the result after using delayed
work to replace timer.

In order to support multi-link operation with multiple links,
start adding some APIs. The notable addition here is to have
the link ID in a new nl80211 attribute, that will be used to
differentiate the links in many nl80211 operations.
So far, this patch adds the netlink NL80211_ATTR_MLO_LINK_ID
attribute (as well as the NL80211_ATTR_MLO_LINKS attribute)
and plugs it through the system in some places, checking the
validity etc. along with other infrastructure needed for it.
For now, I've decided to include only the over-the-air link
ID in the API. I know we discussed that we eventually need to
have to have other ways of identifying a link, but for local
AP mode and auth/assoc commands as well as set_key etc. we'll
use the OTA ID.
Also included in this patch is some refactoring of the data
structures in struct wireless_dev, splitting for the first
time the data into type dependent pieces, to make reasoning
about these things easier.

The firmware has a 512 limit here, but we use less, so gcc
starts complaining about it:
drivers/net/wireless/marvell/libertas/cfg.c:1198:63: warning: array subscript ‘struct cmd_ds_802_11_associate_response[0]’ is partly outside array bounds of ‘unsigned char[203]’ [-Warray-bounds]
1198 | "aid 0x%04x\n", status, le16_to_cpu(resp->statuscode),
| ^~
Since we size the command and response buffer per our needs
and not per the firmware maximum, change to a variable size
data array and put the 512 only into a comment.
In the end, that's actually what the code always wanted, and
it simplifies the code that used to subtract the fixed size
buffer size in two places.

Currently in mac80211 each STA object is represented
using sta_info datastructure with the associated
STA specific information and drivers access ieee80211_sta
part of it.
With MLO (Multi Link Operation) support being added
in 802.11be standard, though the association is logically
with a single Multi Link capable STA, at the physical level
communication can happen via different advertised
links (uniquely identified by Channel, operating class,
BSSID) and hence the need to handle multiple link
STA parameters within a composite sta_info object
called the MLD STA. The different link STA part of
MLD STA are identified using the link address which can
be same or different as the MLD STA address and unique
link id based on the link vif.
To support extension of such a model, the sta_info
datastructure is modified to hold multiple link STA
objects with link specific params currently within
sta_info moved to this new structure. Similarly this is
done for ieee80211_sta as well which will be accessed
within mac80211 as well as by drivers, hence trivial
driver changes are expected to support this.
For current non MLO supported drivers, only one link STA
is present and link information is accessed via 'deflink'
member.
For MLO drivers, we still need to define the APIs etc. to
get the correct link ID and access the correct part of
the station info.
Currently in mac80211, all link STA info are accessed directly
via deflink. These will be updated to access via link pointers
indexed by link id with MLO support patches, with link id
being 0 for non MLO supported cases.
Except for couple of macro related changes, below spatch takes
care of updating mac80211 and driver code to access to the
link STA info via deflink.

cfg80211_ch_switch_notify uses ASSERT_WDEV_LOCK to assert that
net_device->ieee80211_ptr->mtx (which is the same as priv->wdev.mtx)
is held during the function's execution.
mwifiex_dfs_chan_sw_work_queue is one of its callers, which does not
hold that lock, therefore violating the assertion.
Add a lock around the call.

The value returned by an spi driver's remove function is mostly ignored.
(Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the
error is ignored.)
So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.
There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to
return 0 before.

While the locking expectations in this driver are a bit unclear, the
Fixed commit only intended to protect the sta_ptr, so we can drop the

IIUC, this deadlock cannot actually happen, because command event
processing (which calls mwifiex_process_sta_tx_pause()) is
sequentialized with TX packet processing (e.g.,
mwifiex_dequeue_tx_packet()) via the main loop (mwifiex_main_process()).
But it's good not to leave this potential issue lurking.

The firmware of the 88W8897 PCIe+USB card sends those events very
unreliably, sometimes bluetooth together with 2.4ghz-wifi is used and no
COEX event comes in, and sometimes bluetooth is disabled but the
coexistance mode doesn't get disabled.
This means we sometimes end up capping the rx/tx window size while
bluetooth is not enabled anymore, artifically limiting wifi speeds even
though bluetooth is not being used.
Since we can't fix the firmware, let's just ignore those events on the
88W8897 device. From some Wireshark capture sessions it seems that the
Windows driver also doesn't change the rx/tx window sizes when bluetooth
gets enabled or disabled, so this is fairly consistent with the Windows
driver.

The 88W8897 PCIe+USB card in the hardware revision 20 apparently has a
hardware issue where the card wakes up from deep sleep randomly and very
often, somewhat depending on the card activity, maybe the hardware has a
floating wakeup pin or something. This was found by comparing two MS
Surface Book 2 devices, where one devices wifi card experienced spurious
wakeups, while the other one didn't.
Those continuous wakeups prevent the card from entering host sleep when
the computer suspends. And because the host won't answer to events from
the card anymore while it's suspended, the firmwares internal power
saving state machine seems to get confused and the card can't sleep
anymore at all after that.
Since we can't work around that hardware bug in the firmware, let's
get the hardware revision string from the firmware and match it with
known bad revisions. Then disable auto deep sleep for those revisions,
which makes sure we no longer get those spurious wakeups.

Add the missing endpoint sanity checks to probe() to avoid division by
zero in mwifiex_write_data_sync() in case a malicious device has broken
descriptors (or when doing descriptor fuzz testing).
Only add checks for the firmware-download boot stage, which require both
command endpoints, for now. The driver looks like it will handle a
missing endpoint during normal operation without oopsing, albeit not
very gracefully as it will try to submit URBs to the default pipe and
fail.
Note that USB core will reject URBs submitted for endpoints with zero
wMaxPacketSize but that drivers doing packet-size calculations still
need to handle this (cf. commit 2548288b4f ("USB: Fix: Don't skip
endpoint descriptors with maxpacket=0")).

When powersaving (so either wifi powersaving or deep sleep, depending on
which state the firmware is in) is disabled, the way the firmware goes
into host sleep is different: Usually the firmware implicitely enters
host sleep on the next SLEEP event we get when we configured host sleep
via HSCFG before. When powersaving is disabled though, there are no
SLEEP events, the way we enter host sleep in that case is different: The
firmware will send us a HS_ACT_REQ event and after that we "manually"
make the firmware enter host sleep by sending it another HSCFG command
with the action HS_ACTIVATE.
Now waking up from host sleep appears to be different depending on
whether powersaving is enabled again: When powersaving is enabled, the
firmware implicitely leaves host sleep as soon as it wakes up and sends
us an AWAKE event. When powersaving is disabled though, it apparently
doesn't implicitely leave host sleep, but instead we need to send it a
HSCFG command with the HS_CONFIGURE action and the HS_CFG_CANCEL
condition. We didn't do that so far, which is why waking up from host
sleep was broken when powersaving is disabled.
So add some additional state to mwifiex_adapter where we keep track of
whether host sleep was activated manually via HS_ACTIVATE, and if that
was the case, deactivate it manually again via HS_CFG_CANCEL.

While looking at on-air packets using Wireshark, I noticed we're never
setting the initiator bit when sending DELBA requests to the AP: While
we set the bit on our del_ba_param_set bitmask, we forget to actually
copy that bitmask over to the command struct, which means we never
actually set the initiator bit.
Fix that and copy the bitmask over to the host_cmd_ds_11n_delba command
struct.

It seems that the PCIe+USB firmware (latest version 15.68.19.p21) of the
88W8897 card sometimes ignores or misses when we try to wake it up by
writing to the firmware status register. This leads to the firmware
wakeup timeout expiring and the driver resetting the card because we
assume the firmware has hung up or crashed.
Turns out that the firmware actually didn't hang up, but simply "missed"
our wakeup request and didn't send us an interrupt with an AWAKE event.
Trying again to read the firmware status register after a short timeout
usually makes the firmware wake up as expected, so add a small retry
loop to mwifiex_pm_wakeup_card() that looks at the interrupt status to
check whether the card woke up.
The number of tries and timeout lengths for this were determined
experimentally: The firmware usually takes about 500 us to wake up
after we attempt to read the status register. In some cases where the
firmware is very busy (for example while doing a bluetooth scan) it
might even miss our requests for multiple milliseconds, which is why
after 15 tries the waiting time gets increased to 10 ms. The maximum
number of tries it took to wake the firmware when testing this was
around 20, so a maximum number of 50 tries should give us plenty of
safety margin.
Here's a reproducer for those firmware wakeup failures I've found:
1) Make sure wifi powersaving is enabled (iw dev wlp1s0 set power_save on)
2) Connect to any wifi network (makes firmware go into wifi powersaving
mode, not deep sleep)
3) Make sure bluetooth is turned off (to ensure the firmware actually
enters powersave mode and doesn't keep the radio active doing bluetooth
stuff)
4) To confirm that wifi powersaving is entered ping a device on the LAN,
pings should be a few ms higher than without powersaving
5) Run "while true; do iwconfig; sleep 0.0001; done", this wakes and
suspends the firmware extremely often
6) Wait until things explode, for me it consistently takes <5 minutes

On the 88W8897 PCIe+USB card the firmware randomly crashes after setting
the TX ring write pointer. The issue is present in the latest firmware
version 15.68.19.p21 of the PCIe+USB card.
Those firmware crashes can be worked around by reading any PCI register
of the card after setting that register, so read the PCI_VENDOR_ID
register here. The reason this works is probably because we keep the bus
from entering an ASPM state for a bit longer, because that's what causes
the cards firmware to crash.
This fixes a bug where during RX/TX traffic and with ASPM L1 substates
enabled (the specific substates where the issue happens appear to be
platform dependent), the firmware crashes and eventually a command
timeout appears in the logs.

When creating a new virtual interface in mwifiex_add_virtual_intf(), we
update our internal driver states like bss_type, bss_priority, bss_role
and bss_mode to reflect the mode the firmware will be set to.
When switching virtual interface mode using
mwifiex_init_new_priv_params() though, we currently only update bss_mode
and bss_role. In order for the interface mode switch to actually work,
we also need to update bss_type to its proper value, so do that.
This fixes a crash of the firmware (because the driver tries to execute
commands that are invalid in AP mode) when switching from station mode
to AP mode.

It's possible to change virtual interface type between P2P_CLIENT and
P2P_GO, the card supports that just fine, and it happens for example
when using miracast with the miraclecast software.
So allow type changes between P2P_CLIENT and P2P_GO and simply call into
mwifiex_change_vif_to_p2p(), which handles this just fine. We have to
call mwifiex_cfg80211_deinit_p2p() before though to make sure the old
p2p mode is properly uninitialized.

In mwifiex_init_new_priv_params() we update our private driver state to
reflect the currently selected virtual interface type. Most notably we
set the bss_mode to the mode we're going to put the firmware in.
Now after we updated the driver state we actually start talking to the
firmware and instruct it to set up the new mode. Those commands can and
will sometimes fail, in which case we return with an error from
mwifiex_change_vif_to_*. We currently update our virtual interface type
counters after this return, which means the code is never reached when a
firmware error happens and we never update the counters. Since we have
updated our bss_mode earlier though, the counters now no longer reflect
the actual state of the driver.
This will break things on the next virtual interface change, because the
virtual interface type we're switching away from didn't get its counter
incremented, and we end up decrementing a 0-counter.
To fix this, simply update the virtual interface type counters right
after updating our driver structures, so that they are always in sync.

We currently handle changing from the P2P to the STATION virtual
interface type slightly different than changing from P2P to ADHOC: When
changing to STATION, we don't send the SET_BSS_MODE command. We do send
that command on all other type-changes though, and it probably makes
sense to send the command since after all we just changed our BSS_MODE.
Looking at prior changes to this part of the code, it seems that this is
simply a leftover from old refactorings.
Since sending the SET_BSS_MODE command is the only difference between
mwifiex_change_vif_to_sta_adhoc() and the current code, we can now use
mwifiex_change_vif_to_sta_adhoc() for both switching to ADHOC and
STATION interface type.
This does not fix any particular bug and just "looked right", so there's
a small chance it might be a regression.

For type changes from P2P_CLIENT to P2P_GO and the other way round, this

The get_unaligned()/put_unaligned() helpers are traditionally architecture
specific, with the two main variants being the "access-ok.h" version
that assumes unaligned pointer accesses always work on a particular
architecture, and the "le-struct.h" version that casts the data to a

Based on the discussion linked below, it appears that the access-ok

probably has no downsides. This series changes the code to use the

We can deadlock when rmmod'ing the driver or going through firmware
reset, because the cfg80211_unregister_wdev() has to bring down the link
for us, ... which then grab the same wiphy lock.
nl80211_del_interface() already handles a very similar case, with a nice
description:
/*
* We hold RTNL, so this is safe, without RTNL opencount cannot
* reach 0, and thus the rdev cannot be deleted.
*
* We need to do it for the dev_close(), since that will call
* the netdev notifiers, and we need to acquire the mutex there
* but don't know if we get there from here or from some other
* place (e.g. "ip link set ... down").
*/
mutex_unlock(&rdev->wiphy.mtx);
...
Do similarly for mwifiex teardown, by ensuring we bring the link down
first.

A patch from 2017 changed some accesses to DMA memory to use
get_unaligned_le32() and similar interfaces, to avoid problems
with doing unaligned accesson uncached memory.
However, the change in the mwifiex_pcie_alloc_sleep_cookie_buf()
function ended up changing the size of the access instead,
as it operates on a pointer to u8.
Change this function back to actually access the entire 32 bits.
Note that the pointer is aligned by definition because it came
from dma_alloc_coherent().

The libertas driver was trying to register sysfs groups "by hand" which
causes them to be created _after_ the device is initialized and
announced to userspace, which causes races and can prevent userspace
tools from seeing the sysfs files correctly.
Fix this up by using the built-in sysfs_groups pointers in struct
net_device which were created for this very reason, fixing the race
condition, and properly allowing for any error that might have occured
to be handled properly.

This reverts commit 434256833d.
Because of recent interactions with developers from @umn.edu, all
commits from them have been recently re-reviewed to ensure if they were
correct or not.
Upon review, this commit was found to be incorrect for the reasons
below, so it must be reverted. It will be fixed up "correctly" in a
later kernel change.
The original commit was incorrect, the error needs to be propagated back
to the caller AND if the second group call fails, the first needs to be
removed. There are much better ways to solve this, the driver should
NOT be calling sysfs_create_group() on its own as it is racing userspace
and loosing.

In mwl8k_probe_hw, hw->priv->txq is freed at the first time by
dma_free_coherent() in the call chain:
if(!priv->ap_fw)->mwl8k_init_txqs(hw)->mwl8k_txq_init(hw, i).
Then in err_free_queues of mwl8k_probe_hw, hw->priv->txq is freed
at the second time by mwl8k_txq_deinit(hw, i)->dma_free_coherent().
My patch set txq->txd to NULL after the first free to avoid the
double free.

There are a few reasons not to dump SSIDs as-is in kernel logs:
1) they're not guaranteed to be any particular text encoding (UTF-8,
ASCII, ...) in general
2) it's somewhat redundant; the BSSID should be enough to uniquely
identify the AP/STA to which we're connecting
3) BSSIDs have an easily-recognized format, whereas SSIDs do not (they
are free-form)
4) other common drivers (e.g., everything based on mac80211) get along
just fine by only including BSSIDs when logging state transitions
Additional notes on reason #3: this is important for the
privacy-conscious, especially when providing tools that convey
kernel logs on behalf of a user -- e.g., when reporting bugs. So for
example, it's easy to automatically filter logs for MAC addresses, but
it's much harder to filter SSIDs out of unstructured text.

When a network is moved or reconfigured on the different channel, there
can be multiple BSSes with the same BSSID and SSID in scan result
before the old one expires. Then, it can cause cfg80211_connect_result
to map current_bss to a bss with the wrong channel.
Let mwifiex_cfg80211_assoc return the selected BSS and then the caller
can report it cfg80211_connect_bss.

Currently, _everything_ in cfg80211 holds the RTNL, and if you
have a slow USB device (or a few) you can get some bad lock
contention on that.
Fix that by re-adding a mutex to each wiphy/rdev as we had at
some point, so we have locking for the wireless_dev lists and
all the other things in there, and also so that drivers still
don't have to worry too much about it (they still won't get
parallel calls for a single device).
Then, we can restrict the RTNL to a few cases where we add or
remove interfaces and really need the added protection. Some
of the global list management still also uses the RTNL, since
we need to have it anyway for netdev management, but we only
hold the RTNL for very short periods of time here.

We used to not require anything in terms of registering netdevs
with cfg80211, using a netdev notifier instead. However, in the
next patch reducing RTNL locking, this causes big problems, and
the simplest way is to just require drivers to do things better.
Change the registration/unregistration semantics to require the
drivers to call cfg80211_(un)register_netdevice() when this is
happening due to a cfg80211 request, i.e. add_virtual_intf() or
del_virtual_intf() (or if it somehow has to happen in any other
cfg80211 callback).
Otherwise, in other contexts, drivers may continue to use the
normal netdev (un)registration functions as usual.
Internally, we still use the netdev notifier and track (by the
new wdev->registered bool) if the wdev had already been added
to cfg80211 or not.

This is a deadlock caused by calling cancel_work_sync() in
mwifiex_cleanup_pcie():
- Device resets are done via mwifiex_pcie_card_reset()
- which schedules card->work to call mwifiex_pcie_card_reset_work()
- which calls pci_try_reset_function().
- This leads to mwifiex_pcie_reset_done() be called on the same workqueue,
which in turn calls
- mwifiex_reinit_sw() and that calls
- _mwifiex_fw_dpc().
The problem is now that _mwifiex_fw_dpc() calls mwifiex_free_adapter()
in case firmware initialization fails. That ends up calling
mwifiex_cleanup_pcie().
Note that all those calls are still running on the workqueue. So when
mwifiex_cleanup_pcie() now calls cancel_work_sync(), it's really waiting
on itself to complete, causing a deadlock.
This commit fixes the deadlock by skipping cancel_work_sync() on a reset
failure path.
After this commit, when reset fails, the following output is
expected to be shown:
kernel: mwifiex_pcie 0000:03:00.0: info: _mwifiex_fw_dpc: unregister device
kernel: mwifiex: Failed to bring up adapter: -5
kernel: mwifiex_pcie 0000:03:00.0: reinit failed: -5
To reproduce this issue, for example, try putting the root port of wifi
into D3 (replace "00:1d.3" with your setup).
# put into D3 (root port)
sudo setpci -v -s 00:1d.3 CAP_PM+4.b=0b

The functions mwifiex_shutdown_sw() and mwifiex_reinit_sw() can be used
for more general purposes than the PCIe function level reset. Also, these
are even not PCIe-specific.
So, let's update the comments at the top of each function accordingly.

clang static analysis reports this problem:
sdio.c:2403:3: warning: Attempt to free released memory
kfree(card->mpa_rx.buf);
^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When mwifiex_init_sdio() fails in its first call to
mwifiex_alloc_sdio_mpa_buffer, it falls back to calling it
again. If the second alloc of mpa_tx.buf fails, the error
handler will try to free the old, previously freed mpa_rx.buf.
Reviewing the code, it looks like a second double free would
happen with mwifiex_cleanup_sdio().
So set both pointers to NULL when they are freed.

The usage of in_interrupt() in non-core code is phased out. Ideally the
information of the calling context should be passed by the callers or the
functions be split as appropriate.
libertas uses in_interupt() to select the netif_rx*() variant which matches
the calling context. The attempt to consolidate the code by passing an
arguemnt or by distangling it failed due lack of knowledge about this
driver and because the call chains are hard to follow.
As a stop gap use netif_rx_any_context() which invokes the correct code
path depending on context and confines the in_interrupt() usage to core
code.

The debug macro prints (INT) when in_interrupt() returns true. The value of
this information is dubious as it does not distinguish between the various
contexts which are covered by in_interrupt().
As the usage of in_interrupt() in drivers is phased out and the same
information can be more precisely obtained with tracing, remove the
in_interrupt() conditional from this debug printk.

Two minor conflicts:
1) net/ipv4/route.c, adding a new local variable while
moving another local variable and removing it's
initial assignment.
2) drivers/net/dsa/microchip/ksz9477.c, overlapping changes.
One pretty prints the port mode differently, whilst another
changes the driver to try and obtain the port mode from
the port node rather than the switch node.
