The System Management Controller (SMC) on Apple Silicon machines is a
piece of hardware that exposes various functionalities such as
temperature sensors, voltage/power meters, shutdown/reboot handling,
GPIOs and more.
Communication happens via a shared mailbox using the RTKit protocol
which is also used for other co-processors. The SMC protocol then allows
reading and writing many different keys which implement the various
features. The MFD core device handles this protocol and exposes it
to the sub-devices.
Some of the sub-devices are potentially also useful on pre-M1 Apple
machines and support for SMCs on these machines can be added at a later
time.

The ADP558x family supports a built in keypad matrix decoder which can
be added as an Input device. In order to both support the Input and the
GPIO device, we need to create a bitmap of the supported pins and track
their usage since they can either be used as GPIOs (GPIs) or as part of
the keymap.
We also need to mark special pins busy in case some features are being
used (ex: pwm or reset events).

The ADP558x family of devices can be programmed to respond to some
especial events, In case of the unlock events, one can lock the keypad
and use KEYS or GPIs events to unlock it. For the reset events, one can
again use a combinations of GPIs/KEYs in order to generate an event that
will trigger the device to generate an output reset pulse.

There are some differences in the register map between the devices.
Hence, add a register structure per device. This will be needed in
following patches.
On top of that adp5585_fill_regmap_config() is renamed and reworked so
that the current struct adp5585_info act as template (they indeed
contain all the different data between variants) which can then be
complemented depending on the device (as identified by the id register).
This is done like this since a lot of the data is pretty much the same
between variants of the same device.

The only thing changing between variants is the regmap default
registers. Hence, instead of having a regmap configuration for every
variant (duplicating lots of fields), add a chip info type of structure
with a regmap ID to identify which defaults to use and populate
regmap_config at runtime given a template plus the id. Also note that
between variants, the defaults can be the same which means the chip info
structure can be used in more than one compatible.
This will also make it simpler adding new chips with more variants.
Also note that the chip info structures are deliberately not const as
they will also contain lots of members that are the same between the
different devices variants and so we will fill those at runtime.

Pull gpio updates from Bartosz Golaszewski:
"We have three new drivers, some refactoring in the GPIO core, lots of
various changes across many drivers, new configfs interface for the
virtual gpio-aggregator module and DT-bindings updates.
The treewide conversion of GPIO drivers to using the new value setter
callbacks is ongoing with another round of GPIO drivers updated. You
will also see these commits coming in from other subsystems as with
the relevant changes merged into mainline last cycle, I've started
converting GPIO providers located elsewhere than drivers/gpio/.
GPIO core:
- use more lock guards where applicable
- refactor GPIO ACPI code and shrink it in the process by 8%
- move GPIO ACPI quirks into a separate file
- remove unneeded #ifdef
- convert GPIO devres helpers to using devm_add_action() where
applicable which shrinks and simplifies the code
- refactor GPIO descriptor validation in GPIO consumer interfaces
- don't allow setting values on input lines in the GPIO core which
will take off the burden from GPIO drivers of checking this down
the line
- provide gpiod_is_equal() as a way of safely comparing two GPIO
descriptors (the only current user is in regulator core)
New drivers:
- add the GPIO module for the max77759 multifunction device
- add the GPIO driver for the VeriSilicon BLZP1600 GPIO controller
- add the GPIO driver for the Spacemit K1 SoC
Driver improvements:

Using sizeof(*var) is generally preferred over using the size of its
open-coded type when allocating memory.
This helps avoiding bugs when the variable type changes but the memory
allocation isn't updated, and it simplifies renaming of the struct if

The commit bf231e5feb ("mfd: sec-core: Add support for the Samsung
s2dos05") adding s2dos05 support didn't add anything related to IRQ
support, so I assume this works without IRQs.
Rather than printing a warning message in sec_irq_init() due to the
missing IRQ number, or returning an error due to a missing irq chip
regmap, just return early explicitly.
This will become particularly important once errors from sec_irq_init()
aren't ignored anymore in an upcoming patch and helps the reader of
this code while reasoning about what the intention might be here.

When support for PMICs without compatibles was removed in
commit f736d2c0ca ("mfd: sec: Remove PMICs without compatibles"),
sec_regmap_config effectively became an orphan, because S5M8763X was
the only user left of it before removal, using the default: case of the
switch statement.
When s2dos05 and s2mpu05 support was added in commit bf231e5feb
("mfd: sec-core: Add support for the Samsung s2dos05") and commit
ed33479b7b ("mfd: sec: Add support for S2MPU05 PMIC"), they ended up
using that orphaned regmap_config in a non-obvious way due to the
default: case of the device type switch matching statement taking
effect again.
To make things more obvious, and to help the reader of this code while
reasoning about what the intention might be here, and to ensure future
additions to support new devices in this driver don't forget to add a
regmap config, add an explicit regmap config for these two devices, and
completely remove the generic regmap config as it becomes an orphan
again that shouldn't be used by any device.
Note that this commit doesn't fix the issue that s2dos05_regmap_config
ands2mpu05_regmap_config really are incomplete, but I have no
documentation on them.

This driver misses to include some of the respective headers of some of
the APIs used. It also includes headers that aren't needed (e.g. due to
previous driver rework where includes weren't updated).
It is good practice to directly include all headers used, which avoids
implicit dependencies and spurious build breakage if someone rearranged
headers, as this could cause the implicit includes to be dropped.
Include the relevant headers explicitly and drop superfluous ones.

different revisions may have slight differences in behavior (for

irq_domain_add_*() interfaces are going away as being obsolete now.
Switch to the preferred irq_domain_create_*() ones. Those differ in the
node parameter: They take more generic struct fwnode_handle instead of
struct device_node. Therefore, of_fwnode_handle() is added around the
original parameter.
Note some of the users can likely use dev->fwnode directly instead of
indirect of_fwnode_handle(dev->of_node). But dev->fwnode is not
guaranteed to be set for all, so this has to be investigated on case to
case basis (by people who can actually test with the HW).

The ROHM BD96802 PMIC looks from software point of view a lot like ROHM
BD96801 PMIC. Just with reduced number of voltage rails. Both PMICs
provide two physical IRQ lines referred as INTB and ERRB and contain
blocks implementing regulator controls and a weatchdog. Hence it makes
sense to use same MFD core for both PMICs.
Add support for ROHM BD96802 scalable companion PMIC to the BD96801

The resources generated in the BD96801 MFD driver are only visible to
the sub-drivers whose resource fields they are added. This makes
abbreviating the resource name with the IC name pointless. It just adds
confusion in those sub-drivers which do not really care the exact model
that generates the IRQ but just want to know the purpose IRQ was
generated for. This is a preparatory fix to simplify adding support for
ROHM BD96802 PMIC.

The chipid macro/variable and regmap_read function call is not needed
because the TPS65219_REG_TI_DEV_ID register value is not a consistent value
across TPS65219 PMIC config versions. Reading from the DEV_ID register
without a consistent value to compare it to isn't useful. There isn't a
way to verify the match data ID is the same ID read from the DEV_ID device
register. 0xF0 isn't a DEV_ID value consistent across TPS65219 NVM
configurations.
For TPS65215, there is a consistent value in bits 5-0 of the DEV_ID
register. However, there are other error checks in place within probe()
that apply to both PMICs rather than keeping this isolated check for one
PMIC.

Replace ternary (condition ? "enable" : "disable") syntax with helpers
from string_choices.h because:
1. Simple function call with one argument is easier to read. Ternary
operator has three arguments and with wrapping might lead to quite
long code.
2. Is slightly shorter thus also easier to read.
3. It brings uniformity in the text - same string.
4. Allows deduping by the linker, which results in a smaller binary

A recent discussion has revealed that using DPM_FLAG_SMART_SUSPEND
unconditionally is generally problematic because it may lead to
situations in which the device's runtime PM information is internally
inconsistent or does not reflect its real state [1].
For this reason, change the handling of DPM_FLAG_SMART_SUSPEND so that
it is only taken into account if it is consistently set by the drivers
of all devices having any PM callbacks throughout dependency graphs in
accordance with the following rules:
- The "smart suspend" feature is only enabled for devices whose drivers
ask for it (that is, set DPM_FLAG_SMART_SUSPEND) and for devices
without PM callbacks unless they have never had runtime PM enabled.
- The "smart suspend" feature is not enabled for a device if it has not
been enabled for the device's parent unless the parent does not take
children into account or it has never had runtime PM enabled.
- The "smart suspend" feature is not enabled for a device if it has not
been enabled for one of the device's suppliers taking runtime PM into
account unless that supplier has never had runtime PM enabled.
Namely, introduce a new device PM flag called smart_suspend that is only
set if the above conditions are met and update all DPM_FLAG_SMART_SUSPEND
users to check power.smart_suspend instead of directly checking the
latter.
At the same time, drop the power.set_active flage introduced recently
in commit 3775fc538f ("PM: sleep: core: Synchronize runtime PM status
of parents and children") because it is now sufficient to check
power.smart_suspend along with the dev_pm_skip_resume() return value
to decide whether or not pm_runtime_set_active() needs to be called
for the device.

"syscon" compatible") broke drivers which call device_node_to_regmap()
on nodes without a "syscon" compatible. Restore the prior behavior for
device_node_to_regmap().
This also makes using device_node_to_regmap() incompatible with
of_syscon_register_regmap() again, so add kerneldoc for
device_node_to_regmap() and syscon_node_to_regmap() to make it clear
how and when each one should be used.

of_syscon_register_regmap() was added for nodes which need a custom
regmap setup. It's not really correct for those nodes to claim they are
compatible with "syscon" as the default handling likely doesn't work in
those cases. If device_node_get_regmap() happens to be called first,
then of_syscon_register() will be called and an incorrect regmap will be
created (barring some other error). That may lead to unknown results in
the worst case. In the best case, of_syscon_register_regmap() will fail
with -EEXIST. This problem remains unless these cases drop "syscon" (an
ABI issue) or we exclude them using their specific compatible. ATM,
there is only one user: "google,gs101-pmu"
There are also cases of adding "syscon" compatible to existing nodes
after the fact in order to register the syscon. That presents a
potential DT ABI problem. Instead, if there's a kernel change needing a
syscon for a node, then it should be possible to allow the kernel to
register a syscon without a DT change. That's only possible by using
of_syscon_register_regmap() currently, but in the future we may want to
support a match list for cases which don't need a custom regmap.
With this change, the lookup functions will succeed for any node
registered by of_syscon_register_regmap() regardless of whether the node
compatible contains "syscon".

The platform driver is dead code. It is not used by DT platforms since
commit bdb0066df9 ("mfd: syscon: Decouple syscon interface from
platform devices") which said:
For non-DT based platforms, this patch keeps syscon platform driver
structure so that syscon can be probed and such non-DT based drivers
can use syscon_regmap_lookup_by_pdev API and access regmap handles.
Once all users of "syscon_regmap_lookup_by_pdev" migrated to DT based,
we can completely remove platform driver of syscon, and keep only helper
functions to get regmap handles.
The last user of syscon_regmap_lookup_by_pdevname() was removed in 2018.
syscon_regmap_lookup_by_pdevname() was then removed in 2019, but that
commit failed to remove the rest of the platform driver.

It is possible for multiple, simultaneous callers calling
device_node_get_regmap() with the same node to fail to find an entry in
the syscon_list. There is a period of time while the first caller is
calling of_syscon_register() that subsequent callers also fail to find
an entry in the syscon_list and then call of_syscon_register() a second
time.
Fix this by keeping the lock held until after of_syscon_register()
completes and adds the node to syscon_list. Convert the spinlock to a
mutex as many of the functions called in of_syscon_register() such as
kzalloc() and of_clk_get() may sleep.

Currently the device is powered down in the remove callback, however
all other clean up is done through devres. The problem here is the
MFD children are cleaned up through devres. As this happens after
the remove callback has run, this leads to the incorrect ordering
where the child remove functions run after the device has been powered
down. Put the power down into devres as well such that everything runs
in the expected order.

The GPIO framework supports specifying if a GPIO is active low or
high and will invert accordingly. Whilst specifying this is part of
the normal GPIO definition flow on device tree systems, it is a DSD
extension under ACPI, that Windows doesn't really use. This means most
ACPI systems do not set the polarity of the pin.
The current cs42l43 driver assumes it is setting the level of the line
directly, which is actually the case on all current systems and likely
most future ones. However if the part was used in a device tree system
or an ACPI system that actually used the DSD extensions this would get
inverted, causing the driver to fail probe. As the driver always knows
the polarity of its own reset line, use the raw set API making the
intention to set the level directly clear and to avoid any such future
issues.

These microcontroller units are used in network-attached-storage devices
made by QNAP and provide additional functionality to the system.
This adds the base driver that implements the serial protocol via
serdev and additionally hooks into the poweroff handlers to turn
off the parts of the system not supplied by the general PMIC.
Turning off (at least the TSx33 devices using Rockchip SoCs) consists of
two separate actions. Turning off the MCU alone does not turn off the main
SoC and turning off only the SoC/PMIC does not turn off the hard-drives.
Also if the MCU is not turned off, the system also won't start again until
it is unplugged from power.
So on shutdown the MCU needs to be turned off separately before the
main PMIC.
The protocol spoken by the MCU is sadly not documented, but was
obtained by listening to the chatter on the serial port, as thankfully
the "hal_app" program from QNAPs firmware allows triggering all/most
MCU actions from the command line.
The implementation of how to talk to the serial device got some
inspiration from the rave-sp servdev driver.

The i2c-ocores controller can run in interrupt mode on tqmx86 modules.
Add a module parameter to allow configuring the IRQ number, similar to the
handling of the GPIO IRQ.
The new code and module parameter refer to the I2C controller as "I2C1",
as the TQMx86 PLD actually contains a second I2C controller, for which
driver support will be added in the future.

GPIO IRQ setup can fail either because an invalid IRQ was passed as a
parameter, or because the GPIO controller does not support interrupts.
Neither is severe enough to stop the whole probe; simply disable IRQ
support in the GPIO resource when setup fails.
The code is made a bit more robust by introduing an enum for the
resource list indices instead of assuming that the IRQ is at index 0.

the DSDT is so broken that the PMIC needs to be manually instantiated by

After commit 0edb555a65 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove()
return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for
platform drivers.
Convert all platform drivers below drivers/mfd to use .remove(), with
the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As
.remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done
by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer.
On the way do a few whitespace changes to make indention consistent.

A few ROHM PMICs have an RTC block which can be controlled by the
rtc-bd70528 driver. The RTC driver needs the alarm interrupt information
from the parent MFD driver. The MFD driver provides the interrupt
information as a set of named interrupts, where the name is of form:
<PMIC model>-rtc-alm-<x>, where x is an alarm block number.
>From the RTC driver point of view it is irrelevant what the PMIC name
is. It is sufficient to know this is alarm interrupt for a block X. The
PMIC model information is carried to RTC via the platform device ID.
Hence, having the PMIC model in the interrupt name is only making things
more complex because the RTC driver needs to request differently named
interrupts on different PMICs, making code unnecessary complicated.
Simplify this slightly by always using the RTC driver name 'bd70528' as
the prefix for alarm interrupts, no matter what the exact PMIC model is,
and always request the alarm interrupts of same name no matter what the
PMIC model is.

The ASoC CODEC driver masks the IRQs whilst entering and exiting
system suspend to avoid issues where the IRQ handler can run but PM
runtime is disabled. However, as the IRQs could also be used from
other parts of the driver, it would be better to move this handling to
the MFD level.
Remove the handling from the ASoC driver and move it to the MFD
driver. Whilst moving also ensure the IRQs are all masked at the device
level before powering down the device, as per hardware recommendations.

The ROHM BD96801 "scalable PMIC" provides two physical IRQs. The ERRB
handling can in many cases be omitted because it is used to inform fatal
IRQs, which usually kill the power from the SOC.
There may however be use-cases where the SOC has a 'back-up' emergency
power source which allows some very short time of operation to try to
gracefully shut down sensitive hardware. Furthermore, it is possible the
processor controlling the PMIC is not powered by the PMIC. In such cases
handling the ERRB IRQs may be beneficial.

There's no need to list "tc3589x" in the DT match table. The I2C core
will strip any vendor prefix and match against the i2c_device_id table
which has an "tc3589x" entry.
Probably "tc3589x" and TC3589X_UNKNOWN could be removed altogether.
Use of that compatible was only on some STE platforms and was dropped
in 2013. There were ABI breaks in 2014 claiming no DTs in the wild. See
commit 1637d480f8 ("pinctrl: nomadik: force-convert to generic config
bindings").

There are 2G and 4G RAM versions of the Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 X90F and it
turns out that the 2G version has a DMI product name of
"CHERRYVIEW D1 PLATFORM" where as the 4G version has
"CHERRYVIEW C0 PLATFORM". The sys-vendor + product-version check are
unique enough that the product-name check is not necessary.
Drop the product-name check so that the existing DMI match for the 4G
RAM version also matches the 2G RAM version.

This pull request contains some cleanups to the core and some mostly
minor updates to a bunch of drivers and device tree bindings. One thing
worth pointing out is that it contains an immutable branch containing
support for a new mfd chip (Analog Devices ADP5585) with several sub
drivers. So expect to get the four affected commits also from my fellow

This is a platform/x86 library that is mostly being used by other
drivers not directly under arch/x86 anyway (with the exception of the
Intel MID setup code) so it makes sense that it lives under the
platform_data/x86/ directory instead.
No functional changes intended.

The ADP5585 is a 10/11 input/output port expander with a built in keypad
matrix decoder, programmable logic, reset generator, and PWM generator.
This driver supports the chip by modelling it as an MFD device, with two
child devices for the GPIO and PWM functions.
The driver is derived from an initial implementation from NXP, available
in commit 8059835bee19 ("MLK-25917-1 mfd: adp5585: add ADI adp5585 core

Here is the big set of driver core changes for 6.11-rc1.
Lots of stuff in here, with not a huge diffstat, but apis are evolving
which required lots of files to be touched. Highlights of the changes
in here are:
- platform remove callback api final fixups (Uwe took many releases to
get here, finally!)
- Rust bindings for basic firmware apis and initial driver-core
interactions. It's not all that useful for a "write a whole driver
in rust" type of thing, but the firmware bindings do help out the
phy rust drivers, and the driver core bindings give a solid base on
which others can start their work. There is still a long way to go
here before we have a multitude of rust drivers being added, but
it's a great first step.
- driver core const api changes. This reached across all bus types,
and there are some fix-ups for some not-common bus types that
linux-next and 0-day testing shook out. This work is being done to
help make the rust bindings more safe, as well as the C code, moving
toward the end-goal of allowing us to put driver structures into
read-only memory. We aren't there yet, but are getting closer.
- minor devres cleanups and fixes found by code inspection
- arch_topology minor changes
- other minor driver core cleanups
All of these have been in linux-next for a very long time with no
reported problems.

The of_property_for_each_u32() macro needs five parameters, two of which
are primarily meant as internal variables for the macro itself (in the
for() clause). Yet these two parameters are used by a few drivers, and this
can be considered misuse or at least bad practice.
Now that the kernel uses C11 to build, these two parameters can be avoided
by declaring them internally, thus changing this pattern:
struct property *prop;
const __be32 *p;
u32 val;
of_property_for_each_u32(np, "xyz", prop, p, val) { ... }
to this:
u32 val;
of_property_for_each_u32(np, "xyz", val) { ... }
However two variables cannot be declared in the for clause even with C11,
so declare one struct that contain the two variables we actually need. As
the variables inside this struct are not meant to be used by users of this
macro, give the struct instance the noticeable name "_it" so it is visible
during code reviews, helping to avoid new code to use it directly.
Most usages are trivially converted as they do not use those two
parameters, as expected. The non-trivial cases are:
- drivers/clk/clk.c, of_clk_get_parent_name(): easily doable anyway
- drivers/clk/clk-si5351.c, si5351_dt_parse(): this is more complex as the
checks had to be replicated in a different way, making code more verbose
and somewhat uglier, but I refrained from a full rework to keep as much
of the original code untouched having no hardware to test my changes
All the changes have been build tested. The few for which I have the
hardware have been runtime-tested too.

Commit 16c2004d9e ("mfd: omap-usb-tll: Allocate driver data at once")
changed the memory allocation of 'tll' to consolidate it into a single
allocation, introducing an incorrect size calculation.
In particular, the allocation for the array of pointers was converted
into a single-pointer allocation.
The memory allocation used to occur in two steps:
tll = devm_kzalloc(dev, sizeof(struct usbtll_omap), GFP_KERNEL);
tll->ch_clk = devm_kzalloc(dev, sizeof(struct clk *) * tll->nch,
GFP_KERNEL);
And it turned that into the following allocation:
tll = devm_kzalloc(dev, sizeof(*tll) + sizeof(tll->ch_clk[nch]),
GFP_KERNEL);
sizeof(tll->ch_clk[nch]) returns the size of a single pointer instead of
the expected nch pointers.
This bug went unnoticed because the allocation size was small enough to
fit within the minimum size of a memory allocation for this particular
case [1].
The complete allocation can still be done at once with the struct_size
macro, which comes in handy for structures with a trailing flexible
array.
Fix the memory allocation to obtain the original size again.

The primary use of the CRC PMIC's PWM is for LCD panel backlight
control by the i915 driver.
Due to its complexity the probe() function of the i915 driver does not
support -EPROBE_DEFER handling. So far the pwm-crc driver must be built
into the kernel to ensure that the pwm_get() done by the i915 driver
succeeds at once (rather then returning -EPROBE_DEFER).
But the PWM core can load the module from pwm_get() if a module-name is
provided in the pwm_lookup associated with the consumer device.
Switch to using PWM_LOOKUP_WITH_MODULE() for the lookup added for
the Intel integrated GPU, so that the PWM core can load the module from
pwm_get() as needed allowing the pwm-crc driver to be safely built as
module.
This has been successfully tested on an Asus T100TAM with pwm-crc
build as a module.

These drivers don't use the driver_data member of struct i2c_device_id,
so don't explicitly initialize this member.
This prepares putting driver_data in an anonymous union which requires
either no initialization or named designators. But it's also a nice
cleanup on its own.

In the match() callback, the struct device_driver * should not be
changed, so change the function callback to be a const *. This is one
step of many towards making the driver core safe to have struct
device_driver in read-only memory.
Because the match() callback is in all busses, all busses are modified
to handle this properly. This does entail switching some container_of()
calls to container_of_const() to properly handle the constant *.
For some busses, like PCI and USB and HV, the const * is cast away in
the match callback as those busses do want to modify those structures at
this point in time (they have a local lock in the driver structure.)
That will have to be changed in the future if they wish to have their
struct device * in read-only-memory.

The of_syscon_register_regmap() API allows an externally created regmap
to be registered with syscon. This regmap can then be returned to client
drivers using the syscon_regmap_lookup_by_phandle() APIs.
The API is used by platforms where mmio access to the syscon registers is
not possible, and a underlying soc driver like exynos-pmu provides a SoC
specific regmap that can issue a SMC or hypervisor call to write the
register.
This approach keeps the SoC complexities out of syscon, but allows common
drivers such as syscon-poweroff, syscon-reboot and friends that are used
by many SoCs already to be re-used.

While we list the "IRQ status *and acknowledge*" registers as volatile
in the MFD description, they are missing from the writable range array,
so acknowledging any interrupts was met with an -EIO error.
This error propagates up, leading to the whole AXP717 driver failing to
probe, which is fatal to most systems using this PMIC, since most
peripherals refer one of the PMIC voltage rails.
This wasn't noticed on the initial submission, since the interrupt was
completely missing at this point, but the DTs now merged describe the
interrupt, creating the problem.
Add the five registers that hold those bits to the writable array.
This fixes the boot on the Anbernic systems using the AXP717 PMIC.

Rework the pm8008 driver to match the new devicetree binding which no
longer describes internal details like interrupts and register offsets
(including which of the two consecutive I2C addresses the registers
belong to).
Instead make the interrupt controller implementation internal and pass
interrupts to the subdrivers using MFD cell resources.
Note that subdrivers may either get their resources, like register block
offsets, from the parent MFD or this can be included in the subdrivers
directly.
In the current implementation, the temperature alarm driver is generic
enough to just get its base address and alarm interrupt from the parent
driver, which already uses this information to implement the interrupt
controller.
The regulator driver, however, needs additional information like parent
supplies and regulator characteristics so in that case it is easier to
just augment its table with the regulator register base addresses.
Similarly, the current GPIO driver already holds the number of pins and
that lookup table can therefore also be extended with register offsets.
Note that subdrivers can now access the two regmaps by name, even if the
primary regmap is registered last so that it is returned by default when
no name is provided in lookups.
Finally, note that the temperature alarm and GPIO subdrivers need some
minor rework before they can be used with non-SPMI devices like the
PM8008. The temperature alarm MFD cell name specifically uses a "qpnp"
rather than "spmi" prefix to prevent binding until the driver has been
updated.

The firmware can only be patched once. The current code checks if the
firmware supports the features required by the driver and then patches
if it does not. This could lead to the device being patched twice if
the device was patched before the driver took control, but with a
firmware that doesn't support the features the driver requires. This
would fail but potentially in unpredictable ways.
The check should actually check the device is at the ROM version, and
patch the device if it is. Then a separate later check should error out
if the devices firmware is still too old to be supported. This will at
least fail in a clean way with a nice error message.

The current implementation to retrieve ACPI resources is faulty
and may cause issues that even can lead to non-booting systems.
When adding data from an ACPI device, the resources are already
assigned to the platform device. Therefore there is no need to
retrieve the resource list from ACPI and manually assign it to
the platform device. Also there shouldn't be any BIOS in the wild
anymore, that does not have resources added to the KEMPLD ACPI
data.
In particular this fixes an issue where the retrieval of the
resource list using /proc/ioports is disturbed and does not list
the assigned resource for the kempld device or even no resources
at all.
On some distributions this also leads to problems during system
initialization (e.g. with udev) and causes the system to not
boot at all.
I have reproduced the issue with the following kernel versions:
5.10.209
5.15.148
6.1.25
6.6.17
6.7.5
