The VIP overflow recovery worker is armed from the hardirq handler when a
FIFO overflow is detected, and the list-complete path looks the stream up
through the VPDMA list private pointer. Both keep touching stream, port
and device state; the recovery worker also resets the parser and VPDMA,
repopulates the descriptor list, and re-enables the per-list IRQs.
vip_stop_streaming() masks and clears the per-list IRQs, but it neither
synchronizes the hardirq handler nor disables recovery_work. An overflow
IRQ that has already queued recovery_work, or a list-complete IRQ in
flight when the stream is torn down, can therefore still dereference the
stream after its resources are released: the descriptor list is freed by
vip_release_stream() on file release, and the stream itself by
free_stream() on unbind/remove.
Drain the recovery worker and the IRQ handler at both teardown points
through a shared vip_quiesce_stream() helper, before any stream-owned
resource is released. disable_work_sync() cancels pending recovery_work,
drains a running instance, and raises its disable depth, so a subsequent
schedule_work() issued by a racing IRQ handler is rejected at the
workqueue scheduler: recovery_work cannot be requeued after
disable_work_sync() takes effect. The worker may still re-enable the
per-list IRQs before disable_work_sync() returns; disable_irqs() then
masks those sources and synchronize_irq() waits for any in-flight handler
that still dereferences stream state. In vip_stop_streaming() the helper
runs before the parser is stopped, since a worker drained by
disable_work_sync() may re-enable the parser before exiting and would
otherwise undo the stop. recovery_work is created disabled and enabled in
vip_start_streaming() before IRQs, pairing the enable with the teardown
disable across the streaming lifecycle.

If the vpe_top resource is missing, vpe_probe() returns -ENODEV after
v4l2_device_register() has succeeded. Probe failures do not call the
driver's remove callback, so the v4l2 device remains registered on that
error path.
Route that failure through the existing v4l2_device_unregister() unwind
label, matching the other errors after v4l2_device_register().

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

VIP stands for Video Input Port. It can be found on devices such as DRA7xx
and provides a parallel interface to a video source such as a sensor or TV
decoder. Each VIP can support two inputs (slices) and an SoC can be
configured with a variable number of VIPs. Each slice can support two
ports, each connected to its own sub-device.

vpdma_update_dma_addr() was originally added to support multi-instance and
multi-client in vpdma. However it was dropped as it was unused.
We are adding support for TI VIP. Some devices may have multiple VIP
instances each with its own VPDMA engine. Within VIP, two slices can use a
single VPDMA engine simultaneously. So support for multi instances and
multiple clients is needed. Hence reintroduce multi-instance and
multi-client support. Also add kernel doc and switch to GPL version of
EXPORT_SYMBOL.

The v4l2_m2m_get_vq() function never returns NULL.
In the set format handler, the check may have been intended to catch
invalid format types, but that's not needed as the V4L2 core picks the
appropriate VIDIOC_S_FMT ioctl handler based on the format type, so the
type can't be incorrect.
In the get format handler, the return value is not used for any purpose
other than the NULL check, which was therefore probably intended to
catch invalid format types. That's not needed for the same reason as in
the set format handler.
Drop the unneeded return value checks and, as the function has no side
effect, the unneeded function call as well.

Accessing file->private_data manually to retrieve the v4l2_fh pointer is
error-prone, as the field is a void * and will happily cast implicitly
to any pointer type.
Replace all remaining locations that read the v4l2_fh pointer directly
from file->private_data with usage of the file_to_v4l2_fh() function.
The change was generated manually.
No functional change is intended, this only paves the way to remove
direct accesses to file->private_data and make V4L2 drivers safer.
Other accesses to the field will be addressed separately.

Most V4L2 drivers store the v4l2_fh pointer in file->private_data. The
ti-vpe driver instead stores the pointer to the driver-specific
structure that embeds the v4l2_fh. Switch to storing the v4l2_fh pointer
itself to standardize behaviour across drivers. This also prepares for
future refactoring that depends on v4l2_fh being stored in private_data.

Since commit 88785982a1 ("media: vb2: use lock if wait_prepare/finish

vb2_ops callbacks as long as the lock field in vb2_queue is set.
Since the vb2_ops_wait_prepare/finish callbacks already rely on that field,
we can safely drop these callbacks.
This simplifies the code and this is a step towards the goal of deleting
these callbacks.

platform drivers.
Convert all platform drivers below drivers/media to use .remove(), with
the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As
.remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done
by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer.

The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored
and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a
quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this
quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns
void.
Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove
callback to the void returning variant.

The ti-vpe/ sub-directory does not only contain the VPE-specific things.
It also contains the CAL driver, which is a completely different
subsystem. This is also not a good place to add new drivers for other TI
platforms since they will all get mixed up.
Separate the VPE and CAL parts into different sub-directories and rename
the ti-vpe/ sub-directory to ti/. This is now the place where new TI
platform drivers can be added.
