dma_buf_put() may drop the final file reference via fput(), which
can free the dma-buf. The new tracepoint invocation was added
after fput(), and DMA_BUF_TRACE() dereferences dmabuf and takes
dmabuf->name_lock.
This leads to a use-after-free on the final put, visible for
example as a spinlock bad magic fault on a poisoned 0x6b6b6b...
lock.
Move the dma_buf_put tracepoint before fput().

On 32-bit architectures, unsigned long is only 32 bits wide, which
causes 64-bit inode numbers to be silently truncated. Several
filesystems (NFS, XFS, BTRFS, etc.) can generate inode numbers that
exceed 32 bits, and this truncation can lead to inode number collisions
and other subtle bugs on 32-bit systems.
Change the type of inode->i_ino from unsigned long to u64 to ensure that
inode numbers are always represented as 64-bit values regardless of
architecture. Update all format specifiers treewide from %lu/%lx to
%llu/%llx to match the new type, along with corresponding local variable
types.
This is the bulk treewide conversion. Earlier patches in this series
handled trace events separately to allow trace field reordering for
better struct packing on 32-bit.

Some exporters need a flow to synchronously revoke access to the DMA-buf
by importers. Once revoke is completed the importer is not permitted to
touch the memory otherwise they may get IOMMU faults, AERs, or worse.
DMA-buf today defines a revoke flow, for both pinned and dynamic
importers, which is broadly:
dma_resv_lock(dmabuf->resv, NULL);
// Prevent new mappings from being established
priv->revoked = true;
// Tell all importers to eventually unmap
dma_buf_invalidate_mappings(dmabuf);
// Wait for any inprogress fences on the old mapping
dma_resv_wait_timeout(dmabuf->resv,
DMA_RESV_USAGE_BOOKKEEP, false,
MAX_SCHEDULE_TIMEOUT);
dma_resv_unlock(dmabuf->resv, NULL);
// Wait for all importers to complete unmap
wait_for_completion(&priv->unmapped_comp);
This works well, and an importer that continues to access the DMA-buf
after unmapping it is very buggy.
However, the final wait for unmap is effectively unbounded. Several
importers do not support invalidate_mappings() at all and won't unmap
until userspace triggers it.
This unbounded wait is not suitable for exporters like VFIO and RDMA tha
need to issue revoke as part of their normal operations.
Add dma_buf_attach_revocable() to allow exporters to determine the
difference between importers that can complete the above in bounded time,
and those that can't. It can be called inside the exporter's attach op to
reject incompatible importers.
Document these details about how dma_buf_invalidate_mappings() works and
what the required sequence is to achieve a full revocation.

The .invalidate_mapping() callback is documented as optional, yet it
effectively became mandatory whenever importer_ops were provided. This
led to cases where RDMA non-ODP code had to supply an empty stub.
Relax the checks in the dma-buf core so the callback can be omitted,
allowing RDMA code to drop the unnecessary function.
Removing the stub allows the next patch to tell that RDMA does not support
.invalidate_mapping() by checking for a NULL op.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Commit bdb8d06dfe ("dmabuf: Add the capability to expose DMA-BUF stats
in sysfs") added dmabuf statistics to sysfs in 2021 under
CONFIG_DMABUF_SYSFS_STATS. After being used in production, performance
problems were discovered leading to its deprecation in 2022 in commit
e0a9f1fe20 ("dma-buf: deprecate DMABUF_SYSFS_STATS"). Some of the
problems with this interface were discussed in my LPC 2025 talk. [1][2]
Android was probably the last user of the interface, which has since
been migrated to use the dmabuf BPF iterator [3] to obtain the same
information more cheaply. As promised in that series, now that the
longterm stable 6.18 kernel has been released let's remove the sysfs
dmabuf statistics from the kernel.

This debugging hack is important to enforce the rule that importers
should *never* touch the underlying struct page of the exporter.
Instead of just mangling the page link create a copy of the sg_table
but only copy over the DMA addresses and not the pages.
This will cause a NULL pointer de-reference if the importer tries to
touch the struct page. Still quite a hack but this at least allows the
exporter to properly keeps it's sg_table intact while allowing the
DMA-buf maintainer to find and fix misbehaving importers and finally
switch over to using a different data structure in the future.
v2: improve the hack further by using a wrapper structure and explaining
the background a bit more in the commit message.
v3: fix some whitespace issues, use sg_assign_page().

As a workaround to smoothly transit from static to dynamic DMA-buf
handling we cached the sg_table on attach if dynamic handling mismatched
between exporter and importer.
Since Dmitry and Thomas cleaned that up and also documented the lock
handling we can drop this workaround now.

This patch tries to improve the display of the code listing
on The Linux Kernel documentation website for dma-buf [1] .
Originally, it appears that it was attempting to escape
the '*' character, but looks like it's not necessary (now),
so we are seeing something like '\*' on the webite.
This patch removes these unnecessary backslashes and adds syntax
highlighting to improve the readability of the code listing.

Change locking policy of mmap() callback, making exporters responsible
for handling dma-buf reservation locking. Previous locking policy stated
that dma-buf is locked for both importers and exporters by the dma-buf
core, which caused a deadlock problem for DRM drivers in a case of
self-imported dma-bufs which required to take the lock from the DRM
exporter side.

Merge v6.2-rc6 into drm-next
Due to holidays we started -next with more -fixes in-flight than
usual, and people have been asking where they are. Backmerge to get
things better in sync.
Conflicts:
- Tiny conflict in drm_fbdev_generic.c between variable rename and
missing error handling that got added.
- Conflict in drm_fb_helper.c between the added call to vgaswitcheroo
in drm_fb_helper_single_fb_probe and a refactor patch that extracted
lots of helpers and incidentally removed the dev local variable.
Readd it to make things compile.

"The biggest highlight is that the accel subsystem framework is merged.
Hopefully for 6.3 we will be able to line up a driver to use it.
In drivers land, i915 enables DG2 support by default now, and nouveau
has a big stability refactoring and initial ampere support, AMD
includes new hw IP support and should build on ARM again. There is
also an ofdrm driver to take over offb on platforms it's used.
Stuff outside my tree, the dma-buf patches hit a few places, the vc4
firmware changes also do, and i915 has some interactions with MEI for
discrete GPUs. I think all of those should have been acked/reviewed by
relevant parties.

The init order and resulting error handling in dma_buf_export
was pretty messy.
Subordinate objects like the file and the sysfs kernel objects
were initializing and wiring itself up with the object in the
wrong order resulting not only in complicating and partially
incorrect error handling, but also in publishing only halve
initialized DMA-buf objects.
Clean this up thoughtfully by allocating the file independent
of the DMA-buf object. Then allocate and initialize the DMA-buf
object itself, before publishing it through sysfs. If everything
works as expected the file is then connected with the DMA-buf
object and publish it through debugfs.
Also adds the missing dma_resv_fini() into the error handling.

Ever since 68129f431f ("dma-buf: warn about containers in dma_resv object"),
dma_resv_add_shared_fence will warn if you attempt to add a container fence.
While most drivers were fine, fences can also be added to a dma_resv via the
recently added DMA_BUF_IOCTL_IMPORT_SYNC_FILE. Use dma_fence_unwrap_for_each
to add each fence one at a time.

All dma-buf functions has been moved to dynamic locking specification
The dma_buf_mmap_internal() was missed out by accident. Take reservation
lock around file mapping operation to adhere the common locking convention.

The dma_buf_detach() locks attach->dmabuf->resv and then unlocks
dmabuf->resv, which could be a two different locks from a static
code checker perspective. In particular this triggers Smatch to
report the "double unlock" error. Make the locking pointers consistent.

The internal dma-buf lock isn't needed anymore because the updated
locking specification claims that dma-buf reservation must be locked
by importers, and thus, the internal data is already protected by the
reservation lock. Remove the obsoleted internal lock.

Move dma_buf_mmap() function to the dynamic locking specification by
taking the reservation lock. Neither of the today's drivers take the
reservation lock within the mmap() callback, hence it's safe to enforce
the locking.
