The calculation can trivially be changed to avoid the division entirely,
as USEC_PER_SEC is a multiple of 5. Change both such calculation for
consistency, even though gcc apparently managed to optimize the other one

When KCOV is enabled all functions get instrumented, unless
the __no_sanitize_coverage attribute is used. To prepare for
__no_sanitize_coverage being applied to __init functions, we have to
handle differences in how GCC's inline optimizations get resolved. For
arm this exposed several places where __init annotations were missing

several functions to be inline with __always_inline.

In both the read callback for struct cyclecounter, and in struct
timecounter, struct cyclecounter is declared as a const pointer.
Unfortunatly, a number of users of this pointer treat it as a non-const
pointer as it is burried in a larger structure that is heavily modified by
the callback function when accessed. This lie had been hidden by the fact
that container_of() "casts away" a const attribute of a pointer without any
compiler warning happening at all.
Fix this all up by removing the const attribute in the needed places so
that everyone can see that the structure really isn't const, but can,
and is, modified by the users of it.

Previously, the OSTM driver's platform probe path was only enabled for
selected SoCs (e.g., RZ/G2L and RZ/V2H) due to issues on RZ/Ax (ARM32)
SoCs, which encountered IRQ conflicts like:
/soc/timer@e803b000: used for clock events
genirq: Flags mismatch irq 16. 00215201 (timer@e803c000) vs. 00215201 (timer@e803c000)
Failed to request irq 16 for /soc/timer@e803c000
renesas_ostm e803c000.timer: probe with driver renesas_ostm failed with error -16
These issues have since been resolved by commit 37385c0772
("clocksource/drivers/renesas-ostm: Avoid reprobe after successful early
probe"), which prevents reprobe on successfully initialized early timers.
With this fix in place, there is no longer a need to restrict platform
probing based on SoC-specific configs. This change unconditionally enables
reprobe support for all SoCs, simplifying the logic and avoiding the need
to update the configuration for every new Renesas SoC with OSTM.
Additionally, the `ostm_of_table` is now marked with `__maybe_unused` to
fix a build warning when `CONFIG_OF` is disabled.
RZ/A1 and RZ/A2 remain unaffected with this change.

Introduce a clocksource driver for the so-called high-precision timer (HPT)
in the EcoNet EN751221 and EN751627 MIPS SoCs.
It's a 32 bit upward-counting one-shot timer which relies on the crystal so it
is unaffected by CPU power mode. On MIPS 34K devices (single core) there is
one timer, and on 1004K devices (dual core) there are two.
Each timer has two sets of count/compare registers so that there is one for
each of the VPEs on the core. Because each core has 2 VPEs, register selection
takes the CPU number / 2 for the timer corrisponding to the core, then CPU
number % 2 for the register corrisponding to the VPE.
These timers use a percpu-devid IRQ to route interrupts to the VPE which set
the event.

This change removes watchdog self-pinging behavior.
The timer irq handler is triggered due to the 1st expiration,
the handler disables and enables watchdog but also implicitly
clears the expiration count so the count can only be 0 or 1.
Since this watchdog supports opened, configured, or pinged by
systemd, We remove this behavior or the watchdog may not bark
when systemd crashes since the 5th expiration never comes.

STM supports commonly required system and application software timing
functions. STM includes a 32-bit count-up timer and four 32-bit
compare channels with a separate interrupt source for each
channel. The timer is driven by the STM module clock divided by an
8-bit prescale value (1 to 256).
STM has the following features:
• One 32-bit count-up timer with an 8-bit prescaler
• Four 32-bit compare channels
• An independent interrupt source for each channel
• Ability to stop the timer in Debug mode
The s32g platform is declined into two versions, the s32g2 and the
s32g3. The former has a STM block with 8 timers and the latter has 12
timers.
The platform is designed to have one usable STM instance per core on
the system which is composed of 3 x Cortex-M3 + 4 Cortex-A53 for the
s32g2 and 3 x Cortex-M3 + 8 Cortex-A53 for the s32g3.
There is a special STM instance called STM_TS which is dedicated to
the timestamp. The 7th STM instance STM_07 is directly tied to the
STM_TS which means it is not usable as a clockevent.
The driver instantiate each STM described in the device tree as a
clocksource and a clockevent conforming to the reference manual even
if the Linux system does not use all of the clocksource. Each
clockevent will have a cpumask set for a specific CPU.
Given the counter is shared between the clocksource and the
clockevent, the STM module can not be disabled by one or another so
the refcounting mechanism is used to stop the counter when it reaches
zero and to start it when it is one. The suspend and resume relies on
the refcount to stop the module.
As the device tree will have multiple STM entries, the driver can be
probed in parallel with the async option but it is not enabled
yet. However, the driver code takes care of preventing a race by
putting a lock to protect the number of STM instances global variable
which means it is ready to support the option when enough testing will
be done with the underlying time framework.

On stm32mp25, DIER (former IER) must only be modified when the lptimer
is enabled. On earlier SoCs, it must be only be modified when it is
disabled. There's also a new DIEROK flag, to ensure register access
has completed.
Add a new "set_evt" routine to be used on stm32mp25, called depending
on the version register, read by the MFD core (LPTIM_VERR).

On x86 during boot, clockevent_i8253_disable() can be invoked via
x86_late_time_init -> hpet_time_init() -> pit_timer_init() which happens
with enabled interrupts.
If some of the old i8253 hardware is actually used then lockdep will notice
that i8253_lock is used in hard interrupt context. This causes lockdep to
complain because it observed the lock being acquired with interrupts
enabled and in hard interrupt context.
Make clockevent_i8253_disable() acquire the lock with
raw_spinlock_irqsave() to cure this.

Introduce hv_curr_partition_type to store the partition type
as an enum.
Right now this is limited to guest or root partition, but there will
be other kinds in future and the enum is easily extensible.
Set up hv_curr_partition_type early in Hyper-V initialization with
hv_identify_partition_type(). hv_root_partition() just queries this
value, and shouldn't be called before that.
Making this check into a function sets the stage for adding a config
option to gate the compilation of root partition code. In particular,
hv_root_partition() can be stubbed out always be false if root
partition support isn't desired.

In multi-cluster MIPS I6500 systems there is a GIC in each cluster,
each with its own counter. When a cluster powers up the counter will
be stopped, with the COUNTSTOP bit set in the GIC_CONFIG register.
In single cluster systems, it has been fine to clear COUNTSTOP once
in gic_clocksource_of_init() to start the counter. In multi-cluster
systems, this will only have started the counter in the boot cluster,
and any CPUs in other clusters will find their counter stopped which
will break the GIC clock_event_device.
Resolve this by having CPUs clear the COUNTSTOP bit when they come
online, using the existing gic_starting_cpu() CPU hotplug callback. This
will allow CPUs in secondary clusters to ensure that the cluster's GIC
counter is running as expected.

The jcore-aic irqchip does not have separate interrupt numbers reserved for
cpu-local vs global interrupts. Therefore the device drivers need to
request the given interrupt as per CPU interrupt.
69a9dcbd2d ("clocksource/drivers/jcore: Use request_percpu_irq()")
converted the clocksource driver over to request_percpu_irq(), but failed
to do add all the required changes, resulting in a failure to register PIT
interrupts.
Fix this by:
1) Explicitly mark the interrupt via irq_set_percpu_devid() in
jcore_pit_init().
2) Enable and disable the per CPU interrupt in the CPU hotplug callbacks.
3) Pass the correct per-cpu cookie to the irq handler by using
handle_percpu_devid_irq() instead of handle_percpu_irq() in
handle_jcore_irq().

Switch to using hvhdk.h everywhere in the kernel. This header
includes all the new Hyper-V headers in include/hyperv, which form a
superset of the definitions found in hyperv-tlfs.h.
This makes it easier to add new Hyper-V interfaces without being
restricted to those in the TLFS doc (reflected in hyperv-tlfs.h).
To be more consistent with the original Hyper-V code, the names of
some definitions are changed slightly. Update those where needed.
Update comments in mshyperv.h files to point to include/hyperv for
adding new definitions.

read_hv_sched_clock_tsc() assumes that the Hyper-V clock counter is
bigger than the variable hv_sched_clock_offset, which is cached during
early boot, but depending on the timing this assumption may be false
when a hibernated VM starts again (the clock counter starts from 0
again) and is resuming back (Note: hv_init_tsc_clocksource() is not
called during hibernation/resume); consequently,
read_hv_sched_clock_tsc() may return a negative integer (which is
interpreted as a huge positive integer since the return type is u64)
and new kernel messages are prefixed with huge timestamps before
read_hv_sched_clock_tsc() grows big enough (which typically takes
several seconds).
Fix the issue by saving the Hyper-V clock counter just before the
suspend, and using it to correct the hv_sched_clock_offset in
resume. This makes hv tsc page based sched_clock continuous and ensures
that post resume, it starts from where it left off during suspend.
Override x86_platform.save_sched_clock_state and
x86_platform.restore_sched_clock_state routines to correct this as soon
as possible.
Note: if Invariant TSC is available, the issue doesn't happen because
1) we don't register read_hv_sched_clock_tsc() for sched clock:
See commit e5313f1c54 ("clocksource/drivers/hyper-v: Rework
clocksource and sched clock setup");
2) the common x86 code adjusts TSC similarly: see
__restore_processor_state() -> tsc_verify_tsc_adjust(true) and
x86_platform.restore_sched_clock_state().

The continual trickle of small conversion patches is grating on me, and
is really not helping. Just get rid of the 'remove_new' member
function, which is just an alias for the plain 'remove', and had a
comment to that effect:
/*
* .remove_new() is a relic from a prototype conversion of .remove().
* New drivers are supposed to implement .remove(). Once all drivers are
* converted to not use .remove_new any more, it will be dropped.
*/
This was just a tree-wide 'sed' script that replaced '.remove_new' with
'.remove', with some care taken to turn a subsequent tab into two tabs
to make things line up.
I did do some minimal manual whitespace adjustment for places that used
spaces to line things up.
Then I just removed the old (sic) .remove_new member function, and this
is the end result. No more unnecessary conversion noise.

of_find_compatible_node() increments the node's refcount, and it must be
decremented again with a call to of_node_put() when the pointer is no

Instead of adding the missing calls to of_node_put() in all execution

In a multi-cluster MIPS system, there are multiple GICs - one in each
cluster - each of which has its independent counter. The counters in
each GIC are not synchronized in any way, so they can drift relative
to one another through the lifetime of the system. This is problematic
for a clock source which ought to be global.
Avoid problems by always accessing cluster 0's counter, using
cross-cluster register access. This adds overhead so it is applied only
on multi-cluster systems.

The sp804 is currently only user selectable if COMPILE_TEST, this was
done by commit dfc82faad7 ("clocksource/drivers/sp804: Add
COMPILE_TEST to CONFIG_ARM_TIMER_SP804") in order to avoid it being
spuriously offered on platforms that won't have the hardware since it's
generally only seen on Arm based platforms. This config is overly
restrictive, while platforms that rely on the SP804 do select it in
their Kconfig there are others such as the Arm fast models which have a
SP804 available but currently unused by Linux. Relax the dependency to
allow it to be user selectable on arm and arm64 to avoid surprises and
in case someone comes up with a use for extra timer hardware.

"Core:
- Overhaul of posix-timers in preparation of removing the workaround
for periodic timers which have signal delivery ignored.
- Remove the historical extra jiffie in msleep()
msleep() adds an extra jiffie to the timeout value to ensure
minimal sleep time. The timer wheel ensures minimal sleep time
since the large rewrite to a non-cascading wheel, but the extra
jiffie in msleep() remained unnoticed. Remove it.
- Make the timer slack handling correct for realtime tasks.
The procfs interface is inconsistent and does neither reflect
reality nor conforms to the man page. Show the correct 0 slack for
real time tasks and enforce it at the core level instead of having
inconsistent individual checks in various timer setup functions.

The value written into the TPM CnV can only be updated into the hardware
when the counter increases. Additional writes to the CnV write buffer are
ignored until the register has been updated. Therefore, we need to check
if the CnV has been updated before continuing. This may require waiting for
1 counter cycle in the worst case.

In tpm_set_next_event(delta), return -ETIME by wrong cast to int when delta
is larger than INT_MAX.
For example:
tpm_set_next_event(delta = 0xffff_fffe)
{
...
next = tpm_read_counter(); // assume next is 0x10
next += delta; // next will 0xffff_fffe + 0x10 = 0x1_0000_000e
now = tpm_read_counter(); // now is 0x10
...
return (int)(next - now) <= 0 ? -ETIME : 0;
^^^^^^^^^^
0x1_0000_000e - 0x10 = 0xffff_fffe, which is -2 when
cast to int. So return -ETIME.
}
To fix this, introduce a 'prev' variable and check if 'now - prev' is
larger than delta.

According to the data sheet, writing the MODE register should stop the
counter (and thus the interrupts). This appears to work on real hardware,
at least modern Intel and AMD systems. It should also work on Hyper-V.
However, on some buggy virtual machines the mode change doesn't have any
effect until the counter is subsequently loaded (or perhaps when the IRQ
next fires).
So, set MODE 0 and then load the counter, to ensure that those buggy VMs
do the right thing and the interrupts stop. And then write MODE 0 *again*
to stop the counter on compliant implementations too.
Apparently, Hyper-V keeps firing the IRQ *repeatedly* even in mode zero
when it should only happen once, but the second MODE write stops that too.

Leaving the PIT interrupt running can cause noticeable steal time for
virtual guests. The VMM generally has a timer which toggles the IRQ input
to the PIC and I/O APIC, which takes CPU time away from the guest. Even
on real hardware, running the counter may use power needlessly (albeit
not much).
Make sure it's turned off if it isn't going to be used.

The of_property_for_each_u32() macro needs five parameters, two of which
are primarily meant as internal variables for the macro itself (in the
for() clause). Yet these two parameters are used by a few drivers, and this
can be considered misuse or at least bad practice.
Now that the kernel uses C11 to build, these two parameters can be avoided
by declaring them internally, thus changing this pattern:
struct property *prop;
const __be32 *p;
u32 val;
of_property_for_each_u32(np, "xyz", prop, p, val) { ... }
to this:
u32 val;
of_property_for_each_u32(np, "xyz", val) { ... }
However two variables cannot be declared in the for clause even with C11,
so declare one struct that contain the two variables we actually need. As
the variables inside this struct are not meant to be used by users of this
macro, give the struct instance the noticeable name "_it" so it is visible
during code reviews, helping to avoid new code to use it directly.
Most usages are trivially converted as they do not use those two
parameters, as expected. The non-trivial cases are:
- drivers/clk/clk.c, of_clk_get_parent_name(): easily doable anyway
- drivers/clk/clk-si5351.c, si5351_dt_parse(): this is more complex as the
checks had to be replicated in a different way, making code more verbose
and somewhat uglier, but I refrained from a full rework to keep as much
of the original code untouched having no hardware to test my changes
All the changes have been build tested. The few for which I have the
hardware have been runtime-tested too.

There is a race condition in the CMT interrupt handler. In the interrupt
handler the driver sets a driver private flag, FLAG_IRQCONTEXT. This
flag is used to indicate any call to set_next_event() should not be
directly propagated to the device, but instead cached. This is done as
the interrupt handler itself reprograms the device when needed before it
completes and this avoids this operation to take place twice.
It is unclear why this design was chosen, my suspicion is to allow the
struct clock_event_device.event_handler callback, which is called while
the FLAG_IRQCONTEXT is set, can update the next event without having to
write to the device twice.
Unfortunately there is a race between when the FLAG_IRQCONTEXT flag is
set and later cleared where the interrupt handler have already started to
write the next event to the device. If set_next_event() is called in
this window the value is only cached in the driver but not written. This
leads to the board to misbehave, or worse lockup and produce a splat.

The design have been part of the driver since it was first merged in
early 2009. It becomes increasingly harder to trigger the issue the
older kernel version one tries. It only takes a few boots on v6.10-rc5,
while hundreds of boots are needed to trigger it on v5.10.
Close the race condition by using the CMT channel lock for the two
competing sections. The channel lock was added to the driver after its
initial design.

In a TDX VM without paravisor, currently the default timer is the Hyper-V
timer, which depends on the slow VM Reference Counter MSR: the Hyper-V TSC
page is not enabled in such a VM because the VM uses Invariant TSC as a
better clocksource and it's challenging to mark the Hyper-V TSC page shared
in very early boot.
Lower the rating of the Hyper-V timer so the local APIC timer becomes the
the default timer in such a VM, and print a warning in case Invariant TSC
is unavailable in such a VM. This change should cause no perceivable
performance difference.

The Renesas OS Timer (OSTM) driver contains two probe points, of which
only one should complete:
1. Early probe, using TIMER_OF_DECLARE(), to provide the sole
clocksource on (arm32) RZ/A1 and RZ/A2 SoCs,
2. Normal probe, using a platform driver, to provide additional timers
on (arm64 + riscv) RZ/G2L and similar SoCs.
The latter is needed because using OSTM on RZ/G2L requires manipulation
of its reset signal, which is not yet available at the time of early
probe, causing early probe to fail with -EPROBE_DEFER. It is only
enabled when building a kernel with support for the RZ/G2L family, so it
does not impact RZ/A1 and RZ/A2. Hence only one probe method can
complete on all affected systems.
As relying on the order of initialization of subsystems inside the
kernel is fragile, set the DT node's OF_POPULATED flag after a succesful
early probe. This makes sure the platform driver's probe is never
called after a successful early probe.

The RZ/V2H(P) (R9A09G057) SoC is equipped with the Generic Timer Module,
also known as OSTM. Similar to the RZ/G2L SoC, the OSTM on the RZ/V2H(P)
SoC requires the reset line to be deasserted before accessing any
registers.
Early call to ostm_init() happens through TIMER_OF_DECLARE() which always
fails with -EPROBE_DEFER, as resets are not available that early in the
boot process. To address this issue on the RZ/V2H(P) SoC, enable the OSTM
driver to be reprobed through the platform driver probe mechanism.

An IPI backend is always required in an SMP configuration, but an SBI
implementation is not. For example, SBI will be unavailable when the
kernel runs in M mode. For this reason, consider IPI delivery of cache
and TLB flushes to be the base case, and any other implementation (such
as the SBI remote fence extension) to be an optimization.
Generally, if IPIs can be delivered without firmware assistance, they
are assumed to be faster than SBI calls due to the SBI context switch
overhead. However, when SBI is used as the IPI backend, then the context
switch cost must be paid anyway, and performing the cache/TLB flush
directly in the SBI implementation is more efficient than injecting an
interrupt to S-mode. This is the only existing scenario where
riscv_ipi_set_virq_range() is called with use_for_rfence set to false.
sbi_ipi_init() already checks riscv_ipi_have_virq_range(), so it only
calls riscv_ipi_set_virq_range() when no other IPI device is available.
This allows moving the static key and dropping the use_for_rfence
parameter. This decouples the static key from the irqchip driver probe
order.
Furthermore, the static branch only makes sense when CONFIG_RISCV_SBI is
enabled. Optherwise, IPIs must be used. Add a fallback definition of
riscv_use_sbi_for_rfence() which handles this case and removes the need
to check CONFIG_RISCV_SBI elsewhere, such as in cacheflush.c.

The HV_REGISTER_ are used as arguments to hv_set/get_register(), which
delegate to arch-specific mechanisms for getting/setting synthetic
Hyper-V MSRs.
On arm64, HV_REGISTER_ defines are synthetic VP registers accessed via
the get/set vp registers hypercalls. The naming matches the TLFS
document, although these register names are not specific to arm64.
However, on x86 the prefix HV_REGISTER_ indicates Hyper-V MSRs accessed
via rdmsrl()/wrmsrl(). This is not consistent with the TLFS doc, where
HV_REGISTER_ is *only* used for used for VP register names used by
the get/set register hypercalls.
To fix this inconsistency and prevent future confusion, change the
arch-generic aliases used by callers of hv_set/get_register() to have
the prefix HV_MSR_ instead of HV_REGISTER_.
Use the prefix HV_X64_MSR_ for the x86-only Hyper-V MSRs. On x86, the
generic HV_MSR_'s point to the corresponding HV_X64_MSR_.
Move the arm64 HV_REGISTER_* defines to the asm-generic hyperv-tlfs.h,
since these are not specific to arm64. On arm64, the generic HV_MSR_'s
point to the corresponding HV_REGISTER_.
While at it, rename hv_get/set_registers() and related functions to
hv_get/set_msr(), hv_get/set_nested_msr(), etc. These are only used for
Hyper-V MSRs and this naming makes that clear.

The result of the division of new_rate by gt_target_rate can be zero (if
new_rate is smaller than gt_target_rate). Using that result as divisor
without checking can result in a division by zero error. Guard against
this by checking for a zero value earlier.
While here, also change the psv variable to an unsigned long to make
sure we don't overflow the datatype as all other types involved are also
unsiged long.

Identify the clocksources used by ptp_kvm by setting the clocksource ID
enum constants. This avoids dereferencing struct clocksource. Once the
system_counterval_t.cs member will be removed, this will also avoid the
need to obtain clocksource pointers from kvm_arch_ptp_get_crosststamp().
The clocksource IDs are associated to timestamps requested from the KVM
hypervisor, so the proper clocksource ID is known at the ptp_kvm request
site.
While at it, also make the ptp_kvm_get_time_fn() 'ret' variable type int as
that's what the function return value is.

When registering the riscv-timer or clint-timer as a clock_event device,
the driver needs to specify the value of max_delta_ticks. This value
directly influences the max_delta_ns, which represents the maximum time
interval for configuring subsequent clock events. Currently, both
riscv-timer and clint-timer are set with a max_delta_ticks value of
0x7fff_ffff. When the timer operates at a high frequency, this values
limists the system to sleep only for a short time. For the 1GHz case,
the sleep cannot exceed two seconds. To address this limitation, refer to
other timer implementations to extend it to 2^(bit-width of the timer) - 1.
Because the bit-width of $mtimecmp is 64bit, this value becomes ULONG_MAX
(0xffff_ffff_ffff_ffff).

Currently, we enable/disable timer interrupt at runtime to start/stop
timer events. This makes timer interrupt state go out-of-sync with
the Linux interrupt subsystem.
To address the above issue, we can stop a per-HART timer interrupt
by setting U64_MAX in timecmp CSR (or sbi_set_timer()) at the time
of handling timer interrupt.

The AppliedMicro XGene-1 CPU has an erratum where the timer condition
would only consider TVAL, not CVAL. We currently apply a workaround when
seeing the PartNum field of MIDR_EL1 being 0x000, under the assumption
that this would match only the XGene-1 CPU model.
However even the Ampere eMAG (aka XGene-3) uses that same part number, and
only differs in the "Variant" and "Revision" fields: XGene-1's MIDR is
0x500f0000, our eMAG reports 0x503f0002. Experiments show the latter
doesn't show the faulty behaviour.
Increase the specificity of the check to only consider partnum 0x000 and
variant 0x00, to exclude the Ampere eMAG.

We attempt to initialize each CPU's arch_timer event stream in
arch_timer_evtstrm_enable(), which we call from the
arch_timer_starting_cpu() cpu hotplug callback which is registered early
in boot. As this is registered before we initialize the system cpucaps,
the test for ARM64_HAS_ECV will always be false for CPUs present at boot
time, and will only be taken into account for CPUs onlined late
(including those which are hotplugged out and in again).
Due to this, CPUs present and boot time may not use the intended divider
and scale factor to generate the event stream, and may differ from other
CPUs.
Correct this by only initializing the event stream after cpucaps have been
finalized, registering a separate CPU hotplug callback for the event stream
configuration. Since the caps must be finalized by this point, use
cpus_have_final_cap() to verify this.

On SAM9 hardware two cascaded 16 bit timers are used to form a 32 bit
high resolution timer that is used as scheduler clock when the kernel
has been configured that way (CONFIG_ATMEL_CLOCKSOURCE_TCB).
The driver initially triggers a reset-to-zero of the two timers but this
reset is only performed on the next rising clock. For the first timer
this is ok - it will be in the next 60ns (16MHz clock). For the chained
second timer this will only happen after the first timer overflows, i.e.
after 2^16 clocks (~4ms with a 16MHz clock). So with other words the
scheduler clock resets to 0 after the first 2^16 clock cycles.
It looks like that the scheduler does not like this and behaves wrongly
over its lifetime, e.g. some tasks are scheduled with a long delay. Why
that is and if there are additional requirements for this behaviour has
not been further analysed.
There is a simple fix for resetting the second timer as well when the
first timer is reset and this is to set the ATMEL_TC_ASWTRG_SET bit in
the Channel Mode register (CMR) of the first timer. This will also rise
the TIOA line (clock input of the second timer) when a software trigger
respective SYNC is issued.

Due to the fact that the use of `writeq_relaxed()` to program CVAL is
not guaranteed to be atomic, it is necessary to disable the timer before
programming CVAL.
However, if the MMIO timer is already enabled and has not yet expired,
there is a possibility of unexpected behavior occurring: when the CPU
enters the idle state during this period, and if the CPU's local event
is earlier than the broadcast event, the following process occurs:
tick_broadcast_enter()
tick_broadcast_oneshot_control(TICK_BROADCAST_ENTER)
__tick_broadcast_oneshot_control()
___tick_broadcast_oneshot_control()
tick_broadcast_set_event()
clockevents_program_event()
set_next_event_mem()
During this process, the MMIO timer remains enabled while programming
CVAL. To prevent such behavior, disable timer explicitly prior to
programming CVAL.

- Scheduler SMP load-balancer improvements:
- Avoid unnecessary migrations within SMT domains on hybrid systems.
Problem:
On hybrid CPU systems, (processors with a mixture of higher-frequency
SMT cores and lower-frequency non-SMT cores), under the old code
lower-priority CPUs pulled tasks from the higher-priority cores if
more than one SMT sibling was busy - resulting in many unnecessary
task migrations.
Solution:
The new code improves the load balancer to recognize SMT cores with more
than one busy sibling and allows lower-priority CPUs to pull tasks, which
avoids superfluous migrations and lets lower-priority cores inspect all SMT
siblings for the busiest queue.
- Implement the 'runnable boosting' feature in the EAS balancer: consider CPU
contention in frequency, EAS max util & load-balance busiest CPU selection.
This improves CPU utilization for certain workloads, while leaves other key
workloads unchanged.
- Scheduler infrastructure improvements:
- Rewrite the scheduler topology setup code by consolidating it
into the build_sched_topology() helper function and building
it dynamically on the fly.
- Resolve the local_clock() vs. noinstr complications by rewriting
the code: provide separate sched_clock_noinstr() and
local_clock_noinstr() functions to be used in instrumentation code,
and make sure it is all instrumentation-safe.
- Fixes:
- Fix a kthread_park() race with wait_woken()
- Fix misc wait_task_inactive() bugs unearthed by the -rt merge:
- Fix UP PREEMPT bug by unifying the SMP and UP implementations.
- Fix task_struct::saved_state handling.

- Fix grub_reclaim() calculation bug in the deadline scheduler code
- Avoid resetting the min update period when it is unnecessary, in

- Don't balance a task to its current running CPU in load_balance(),

Pull scheduler updates from Ingo Molnar:
"Scheduler SMP load-balancer improvements:
- Avoid unnecessary migrations within SMT domains on hybrid systems.
Problem:
On hybrid CPU systems, (processors with a mixture of
higher-frequency SMT cores and lower-frequency non-SMT cores),
under the old code lower-priority CPUs pulled tasks from the
higher-priority cores if more than one SMT sibling was busy -
resulting in many unnecessary task migrations.
Solution:
The new code improves the load balancer to recognize SMT cores
with more than one busy sibling and allows lower-priority CPUs
to pull tasks, which avoids superfluous migrations and lets
lower-priority cores inspect all SMT siblings for the busiest
queue.
- Implement the 'runnable boosting' feature in the EAS balancer:
consider CPU contention in frequency, EAS max util & load-balance
busiest CPU selection.
This improves CPU utilization for certain workloads, while leaves
other key workloads unchanged.
Scheduler infrastructure improvements:
- Rewrite the scheduler topology setup code by consolidating it into
the build_sched_topology() helper function and building it
dynamically on the fly.
- Resolve the local_clock() vs. noinstr complications by rewriting
the code: provide separate sched_clock_noinstr() and
local_clock_noinstr() functions to be used in instrumentation code,
and make sure it is all instrumentation-safe.
Fixes:
- Fix a kthread_park() race with wait_woken()
- Fix misc wait_task_inactive() bugs unearthed by the -rt merge:
- Fix UP PREEMPT bug by unifying the SMP and UP implementations
- Fix task_struct::saved_state handling
- Fix various rq clock update bugs, unearthed by turning on the rq
clock debugging code.
- Fix the PSI WINDOW_MIN_US trigger limit, which was easy to trigger
by creating enough cgroups, by removing the warnign and restricting
window size triggers to PSI file write-permission or
CAP_SYS_RESOURCE.
- Propagate SMT flags in the topology when removing degenerate domain
- Fix grub_reclaim() calculation bug in the deadline scheduler code
- Avoid resetting the min update period when it is unnecessary, in
psi_trigger_destroy().
- Don't balance a task to its current running CPU in load_balance(),
which was possible on certain NUMA topologies with overlapping
groups.
- Fix the sched-debug printing of rq->nr_uninterruptible
Cleanups:
- Address various -Wmissing-prototype warnings, as a preparation to
(maybe) enable this warning in the future.
- Remove unused code
- Mark more functions __init
- Fix shadow-variable warnings"

Current code assigns either the Hyper-V TSC page or MSR-based ref counter
as the sched clock. This may be sub-optimal in two cases. First, if there
is hardware support to ensure consistent TSC frequency across live
migrations and Hyper-V is using that support, the raw TSC is a faster
source of time than the Hyper-V TSC page. Second, the MSR-based ref
counter is relatively slow because reads require a trap to the hypervisor.
As such, it should never be used as the sched clock. The native sched
clock based on the raw TSC or jiffies is much better.
Rework the sched clock setup so it is set to the TSC page only if
Hyper-V indicates that the TSC may have inconsistent frequency across
live migrations. Also, remove the code that sets the sched clock to
the MSR-based ref counter. In the cases where it is not set, the sched
clock will then be the native sched clock.
As part of the rework, always enable both the TSC page clocksource and
the MSR-based ref counter clocksource. Set the ratings so the TSC page
clocksource is preferred. While the MSR-based ref counter clocksource
is unlikely to ever be the default, having it available for manual
selection is convenient for development purposes.

When looking at the data structs defining the different behaviours of
the GPT blocks in different SoCs it's not helpful that the same
functions are used with different names.
So drop the cpp defines and use the original names.

Currently hv_read_tsc_page_tsc() (ab)uses the (valid) time value of
U64_MAX as an error return. This breaks the clean wrap-around of the
clock.
Modify the function signature to return a boolean state and provide
another u64 pointer to store the actual time on success. This obviates
the need to steal one time value and restores the full counter width.
