- Add SAHARA channel support in the pci_generic driver for Foxconn products.
This allows capturing crashdump (ramdump) using the in-kernel sahara client
driver.
- Add support for devices with no M3 state. Some devices do not support the
M3 power state due to hardware issues. For those devices, MHI bus will now
run the full host-side suspend/resume sequence but skip the device-side
M3/M0 handshake, so any transfer queued by clients during suspend is
deferred until resume.
- Set 'mhi_cntrl->no_m3' flag in the pci_generic driver for the QDU100 device
so that the MHI bus also skips the M3 transition during system suspend.
Earlier, the flag was only used to disable runtime PM, but the system
suspend path was still transitioning the device to M3.
- Fix sys error transition latency by polling for the state transition in
mhi_pm_sys_error_transition() instead of waiting up to 24 seconds for an
interrupt from the device. Since a device that has been reset (e.g., via
AT!RESET) is not guaranteed to raise one.
- Flush the posted write after writing to MHI_SOC_RESET_REQ_OFFSET in
mhi_soc_reset() so that the reset actually reaches the device before the
caller's post-reset delay begins.
- Fix controller cleanup on EDL sysfs failure in mhi_register_controller().
The error path was leaving the device registered when sysfs_create_file()
failed.
MHI Endpoint
------------
- Add mhi_cntrl->flush_async() callback to drain the in-flight async DMA
read/write operations issued through the MHI controller driver. This is
used by the MHI EP stack before disconnect to avoid UAF where a late DMA
completion could invoke a now-invalid xfer_cb().
- Implement the flush_async() callback in the PCI EPF MHI controller driver
by waiting for the in-flight DMA operations to complete and then flushing
the DMA workqueue. Since I'm the maintainer for this PCI EPF driver, I'm
taking this patch through MHI tree due to dependency.
- Flush the in-flight async transfers before notifying disconnect in
mhi_ep_abort_transfer() to fix a UAF, where a success callback delivered
after the -ENOTCONN notification could reference resources already freed
by the client.
- Fix device refcount leak in the error path of mhi_ep_create_device() when
dev_set_name() or device_add() fails.

- Clean up kernel-doc warnings in include/linux/mhi.h.

mhi_register_controller() adds the controller device before creating the
optional trigger_edl sysfs file. If sysfs_create_file() fails, the error
path only drops the device reference and leaves the device registered.
Hence, call device_del() in the error path before put_device().

Commit 0494cf9793 ("bus: mhi: host: pci_generic: Disable runtime PM for
QDU100") added the 'no_m3' flag to indicate that the QDU100 device doesn't
support M3 state and used this flag to skip runtime PM. But it didn't
prevent the MHI bus from transitioning the device to M3 during system
suspend.
So set 'mhi_cntrl->no_m3' flag based on the local 'info->no_m3' flag to
indicate MHI bus that this device doesn't support M3 state so that it can
skip the transition.

MHI bus transitions the device into M3 state during suspend and back to M0
state during resume. But due to hardware issues, some devices do not
support M3 state. To support these devices properly, MHI bus needs to skip
transitioning the device to M3 during suspend and back to M0 during resume.
For this purpose, introduce the 'mhi_cntrl->no_m3' flag and allow it to be
set by the MHI controller drivers. Once set, this flag lets the MHI bus
skip transitioning the device to M3/M0 during suspend/resume.
But, simply skipping suspend/resume for such devices is not sufficient, as
it leaves the MHI host in M0 state with device access enabled. Client
drivers that do not implement PM callbacks (for instance, the non-freezable
rx_refill worker in mhi_net driver) could then keep ringing channel
doorbells and issue MMIO to the device even after the controller driver has
disabled it and moved it to D3 during its own suspend, resulting in access
to a powered down device.
So instead of skipping the entire suspend/resume operation, run the full
host suspend/resume sequence but without the device-side M state handshake.
During suspend, only transition the host to M3 without sending the MHICTRL
M3 command or waiting for the device M3 event. During resume, bring the
host back to M0 through mhi_pm_m0_transition() without sending the MHICTRL
M0 command.
With the host in M3, all device access is gated by MHI_DB_ACCESS_VALID()
and MHI_REG_ACCESS_VALID(), so any transfer queued by the clients during
suspend is deferred until resume, where mhi_pm_m0_transition() rings the
pending doorbells.

mhi_soc_reset() tries to reset the device by writing to the
MHI_SOC_RESET_REQ_OFFSET register. But it doesn't do a read-back to ensure
that the write gets flushed to the device before returning to the caller.
This may lead to the delay (if implemented) on the caller to be
insufficient, if the posted write doesn't reach the device before the
delay.
So add a read-back after writing to the MHI_SOC_RESET_REQ_OFFSET register.

Bring forward the idea to fix the power down latency in
mhi_pm_disable_transition() further to mhi_pm_sys_error_transition()
so that the transition into system error (triggered by AT!RESET) in the
modems won't have to return only after the timeout of up to 24 seconds.
Once the device gets reset, there is no guarantee that it will send an
interrupt to indicate the state transition. So polling is the sensible
option here.

This converts some of the visually simpler cases that have been split
over multiple lines. I only did the ones that are easy to verify the
resulting diff by having just that final GFP_KERNEL argument on the next
line.
Somebody should probably do a proper coccinelle script for this, but for
me the trivial script actually resulted in an assertion failure in the
middle of the script. I probably had made it a bit _too_ trivial.
So after fighting that far a while I decided to just do some of the
syntactically simpler cases with variations of the previous 'sed'
scripts.
The more syntactically complex multi-line cases would mostly really want
whitespace cleanup anyway.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

MHI stack offers the 'auto_queue' feature, which allows the MHI stack to
auto queue the buffers for the RX path (DL channel). Though this feature
simplifies the client driver design, it introduces race between the client
drivers and the MHI stack. For instance, with auto_queue, the 'dl_callback'
for the DL channel may get called before the client driver is fully probed.
This means, by the time the dl_callback gets called, the client driver's
structures might not be initialized, leading to NULL ptr dereference.
Currently, the drivers have to workaround this issue by initializing the
internal structures before calling mhi_prepare_for_transfer_autoqueue().
But even so, there is a chance that the client driver's internal code path
may call the MHI queue APIs before mhi_prepare_for_transfer_autoqueue() is
called, leading to similar NULL ptr dereference. This issue has been
reported on the Qcom X1E80100 CRD machines affecting boot.
So to properly fix all these races, drop the MHI 'auto_queue' feature
altogether and let the client driver (QRTR) manage the RX buffers manually.
In the QRTR driver, queue the RX buffers based on the ring length during
probe and recycle the buffers in 'dl_callback' once they are consumed. This
also warrants removing the setting of 'auto_queue' flag from controller
drivers.
Currently, this 'auto_queue' feature is only enabled for IPCR DL channel.
So only the QRTR client driver requires the modification.

for both SBL and WLAN FW. However, TME-L (Trust Management Engine Lite)
supported devices (e.g., QCC2072) require separate ELF headers for SBL and
WLAN FW segments due to TME-L image authentication requirements.
Current image format contains two sections in a single binary:
- First 512KB: ELF header + SBL segments
- Remaining: WLAN FW segments (raw data)
The TME-L supported image format contains two complete ELF files in a
single binary:
- First 512KB: Complete SBL ELF file (ELF header + SBL segments)
- Remaining: Complete WLAN FW ELF file (ELF header + WLAN FW segments)
Download behavior:
- Legacy: 1. First 512KB via BHI (ELF header + SBL)
2. Full image via BHIe
- TME-L: 1. First 512KB via BHI (SBL ELF file)

the PF is restored to a known good state.
If soc_reset is not performed device at driver remove, device will be
stuck in mission mode state and subsequent driver insert/power_up will not
proceed further.

When a remote device sends a completion event to the host, it contains a
pointer to the consumed TRE. The host uses this pointer to process all of
the TREs between it and the host's local copy of the ring's read pointer.
This works when processing completion for chained transactions, but can
lead to nasty results if the device sends an event for a single-element
transaction with a read pointer that is multiple elements ahead of the
host's read pointer.
For instance, if the host accesses an event ring while the device is
updating it, the pointer inside of the event might still point to an old
TRE. If the host uses the channel's xfer_cb() to directly free the buffer
pointed to by the TRE, the buffer will be double-freed.
This behavior was observed on an ep that used upstream EP stack without
'commit 6f18d174b7 ("bus: mhi: ep: Update read pointer only after buffer
is written")'. Where the device updated the events ring pointer before
updating the event contents, so it left a window where the host was able to
access the stale data the event pointed to, before the device had the
chance to update them. The usual pattern was that the host received an
event pointing to a TRE that is not immediately after the last processed
one, so it got treated as if it was a chained transaction, processing all
of the TREs in between the two read pointers.
This commit aims to harden the host by ensuring transactions where the
event points to a TRE that isn't local_rp + 1 are chained.

transferring the firmware image over BHI. So fix it by converting the DMA
address and size of the BHI vector table to little endian format before
sending them to the device.

When mhi_async_power_up() enables IRQs, it is possible that we could
receive a SYSERR notification from the device if the firmware has crashed
for some reason. Then the SYSERR notification queues a work item that
cannot execute until the pm_mutex is released by mhi_async_power_up().
So the SYSERR work item will be pending. If mhi_async_power_up() detects
the SYSERR, it will handle it. If the device is in PBL, then the PBL state
transition event will be queued, resulting in a work item after the
pending SYSERR work item. Once mhi_async_power_up() releases the pm_mutex,
the SYSERR work item can run. It will blindly attempt to reset the MHI
state machine, which is the recovery action for SYSERR. PBL/SBL are not
interrupt driven and will ignore the MHI Reset unless SYSERR is actively
advertised. This will cause the SYSERR work item to timeout waiting for
reset to be cleared, and will leave the host state in SYSERR processing.
The PBL transition work item will then run, and immediately fail because
SYSERR processing is not a valid state for PBL transition.
This leaves the device uninitialized.
This issue has a fairly unique signature in the kernel log:
mhi mhi3: Requested to power ON
Qualcomm Cloud AI 100 0000:36:00.0: Fatal error received from
device. Attempting to recover
mhi mhi3: Power on setup success
mhi mhi3: Device failed to exit MHI Reset state
mhi mhi3: Device MHI is not in valid state
We cannot remove the SYSERR handling from mhi_async_power_up() because the
device may be in the SYSERR state, but we missed the notification as the
irq was fired before irqs were enabled. We also can't queue the SYSERR work
item from mhi_async_power_up() if SYSERR is detected because that may
result in a duplicate work item, and cause the same issue since the
duplicate item will blindly issue MHI reset even if SYSERR is no longer
active.
Instead, add a check in the SYSERR work item to make sure that MHI reset is
only issued if the device is in SYSERR state for PBL or SBL EEs.
