2700297b69 sparc: vdso: Respect COMPAT_32BIT_TIME
If CONFIG_COMPAT_32BIT_TIME is disabled then the vDSO should not
provide any 32-bit time related functionality. This is the intended
effect of the kconfig option and also the fallback system calls would
also not be implemented.

When the vDSO logic was copied from x86 to SPARC some unused remnants of

On x86 the reservation was only cleaned up in commit 24b7c77bbb

bf4afc53b7 Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using

    git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
        xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'

to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.

For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

69050f8d6d treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:

Single allocations:	kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)

Array allocations:	kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)

Flex array allocations:	kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with:	kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)

(where TYPE may also be *VAR)

The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

69114be15b sparc/build: Put usage of -fcall-used* flags behind cc-option
Place -fcall-used* flags behind cc-option so that clang (which doesn't
support them) can still compile the kernel.

This is a safe change, the reasoning is as follows:

In the (normal) 32-bit ABI, %g5 and %g7 is normally reserved, and in
the 64-bit ABI, %g7 is the reserved one.
Linux turns them into volatile registers by the way of -fcall-used-*,
but on the other hand, omitting the flags shouldn't be harmful;
compilers will now simply refuse to touch them, and any assembly
code that happens to touch them would still work like usual (because
Linux' conventions already treats them as volatile anyway).

b1992c3772 kbuild: use $(src) instead of $(srctree)/$(src) for source directory
Kbuild conventionally uses $(obj)/ for generated files, and $(src)/ for
checked-in source files. It is merely a convention without any functional
difference. In fact, $(obj) and $(src) are exactly the same, as defined
in scripts/Makefile.build:

    src := $(obj)

When the kernel is built in a separate output directory, $(src) does
not accurately reflect the source directory location. While Kbuild
resolves this discrepancy by specifying VPATH=$(srctree) to search for
source files, it does not cover all cases. For example, when adding a
header search path for local headers, -I$(srctree)/$(src) is typically
passed to the compiler.

This introduces inconsistency between upstream and downstream Makefiles
because $(src) is used instead of $(srctree)/$(src) for the latter.

To address this inconsistency, this commit changes the semantics of
$(src) so that it always points to the directory in the source tree.

Going forward, the variables used in Makefiles will have the following
meanings:

$(obj) - directory in the object tree
$(src) - directory in the source tree (changed by this commit)
$(objtree) - the top of the kernel object tree
$(srctree) - the top of the kernel source tree

Consequently, $(srctree)/$(src) in upstream Makefiles need to be replaced
with $(src).

Currently, vdso-image-*.c, vdso*.so, vdso*.so.dbg are not cleaned

56769ba4b2 kbuild: unify vdso_install rules
Currently, there is no standard implementation for vdso_install,
leading to various issues:

 1. Code duplication

Many architectures duplicate similar code just for copying files
    to the install destination.

Some architectures (arm, sparc, x86) create build-id symlinks,
    introducing more code duplication.

 2. Unintended updates of in-tree build artifacts

The vdso_install rule depends on the vdso files to install.
It may update in-tree build artifacts. This can be problematic,
as explained in commit 19514fc665 ("arm, kbuild: make
"make install" not depend on vmlinux").

 3. Broken code in some architectures

Makefile code is often copied from one architecture to another
    without proper adaptation.

'make vdso_install' for parisc does not work.

    'make vdso_install' for s390 installs vdso64, but not vdso32.

To address these problems, this commit introduces a generic vdso_install
rule.

Architectures that support vdso_install need to define vdso-install-y
in arch/*/Makefile. vdso-install-y lists the files to install.

For example, arch/x86/Makefile looks like this:

  vdso-install-$(CONFIG_X86_64) += arch/x86/entry/vdso/vdso64.so.dbg
  vdso-install-$(CONFIG_X86_X32_ABI) += arch/x86/entry/vdso/vdsox32.so.dbg
  vdso-install-$(CONFIG_X86_32) += arch/x86/entry/vdso/vdso32.so.dbg
  vdso-install-$(CONFIG_IA32_EMULATION) += arch/x86/entry/vdso/vdso32.so.dbg

These files will be installed to $(MODLIB)/vdso/ with the .dbg suffix,
if exists, stripped away.

vdso-install-y can optionally take the second field after the colon
separator. This is needed because some architectures install a vdso
file as a different base name.

The following is a snippet from arch/arm64/Makefile.

  vdso-install-$(CONFIG_COMPAT_VDSO) += arch/arm64/kernel/vdso32/vdso.so.dbg:vdso32.so

This will rename vdso.so.dbg to vdso32.so during installation. If such
architectures change their implementation so that the base names match,
this workaround will go away.

12a5b00a53 sparc,x86: vdso: remove meaningless undefining CONFIG_OPTIMIZE_INLINING
The code, #undef CONFIG_OPTIMIZE_INLINING, is not working as expected
because <linux/compiler_types.h> is parsed before vclock_gettime.c since
28128c61e0 ("kconfig.h: Include compiler types to avoid missed struct
attributes").

Since then, <linux/compiler_types.h> is included really early by using the
'-include' option. So, you cannot negate the decision of
<linux/compiler_types.h> in this way.

You can confirm it by checking the pre-processed code, like this:

  $ make arch/x86/entry/vdso/vdso32/vclock_gettime.i

There is no difference with/without CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE.

It is about two years since 28128c61e0. Nobody has reported a problem
(or, nobody has even noticed the fact that this code is not working).

It is ugly and unreliable to attempt to undefine a CONFIG option from C
files, and anyway the inlining heuristic is up to the compiler.

Just remove the broken code.

5f2fb52fac kbuild: rename hostprogs-y/always to hostprogs/always-y
In old days, the "host-progs" syntax was used for specifying host
programs. It was renamed to the current "hostprogs-y" in 2004.

It is typically useful in scripts/Makefile because it allows Kbuild to
selectively compile host programs based on the kernel configuration.

This commit renames like follows:

  always       ->  always-y
  hostprogs-y  ->  hostprogs

So, scripts/Makefile will look like this:

  always-$(CONFIG_BUILD_BIN2C) += ...
  always-$(CONFIG_KALLSYMS) += ...
      ...
  hostprogs := $(always-y) $(always-m)

I think this makes more sense because a host program is always a host
program, irrespective of the kernel configuration. We want to specify
which ones to compile by CONFIG options, so always-y will be handier.

The "always", "hostprogs-y", "hostprogs-m" will be kept for backward
compatibility for a while.

ddccf40fe8 y2038: vdso: change timeval to __kernel_old_timeval
The gettimeofday() function in vdso uses the traditional 'timeval'
structure layout, which will be incompatible with future versions of
glibc on 32-bit architectures that use a 64-bit time_t.

This interface is problematic for y2038, when time_t overflows on 32-bit
architectures, but the plan so far is that a libc with 64-bit time_t
will not call into the gettimeofday() vdso helper at all, and only
have a method for entering clock_gettime(). This means we don't have
to fix it here, though we probably want to add a new clock_gettime()
entry point using a 64-bit version of 'struct timespec' at some point.

Changing the vdso code to use __kernel_old_timeval helps isolate
this usage from the other ones that still need to be fixed properly,
and it gets us closer to removing the 'timeval' definition from the
kernel sources.

5347291415 sparc: vdso: fix build error of vdso32
Since commit 54b8ae66ae ("kbuild: change *FLAGS_<basetarget>.o to
take the path relative to $(obj)"), sparc allmodconfig fails to build
as follows:

  CC arch/sparc/vdso/vdso32/vclock_gettime.o
unrecognized e_machine 18 arch/sparc/vdso/vdso32/vclock_gettime.o
arch/sparc/vdso/vdso32/vclock_gettime.o: failed

The cause of the breakage is that -pg flag not being dropped.

The vdso32 files are located in the vdso32/ subdirectory, but I missed
to update the Makefile.

I removed the meaningless CFLAGS_REMOVE_vdso-note.o since it is only
effective for C file.

vdso-note.o is compiled from assembly file:

  arch/sparc/vdso/vdso-note.S
  arch/sparc/vdso/vdso32/vdso-note.S

caf539cd10 sparc: Fix VDSO build with older binutils.
Older versions of bintutils do not allow symbol math across different
segments on sparc:

====================
Assembler messages:
99: Error: operation combines symbols in different segments
====================

This is controlled by whether or not DIFF_EXPR_OK is defined in
gas/config/tc-*.h and for sparc this was not the case until mid-2017.

So we have to patch between %stick and %tick another way.

Do what powerpc does and emit two versions of the relevant functions,
one using %tick and one using %stick, and patch the symbols in the
dynamic symbol table.
