s390/mm: Simplify crst_table_upgrade()
In case of an upgrade from four to five level page tables, and a failing
pgd allocation, the exit path of crst_table_upgrade() would incorrectly
dereference the p4d NULL pointer via pagetable_dtor().
Address this by reworking crst_table_upgrade(), which basically is a
revert of [1]. Take into account that GFP_KERNEL order-2 allocation
failures are very unlikely. Therefore keep the code as simple as
possible:
In case of an upgrade from three to five levels, and an allocation
failure of the fifth page table level, keep the upgrade to four levels
instead of reverting back to three levels. This allows to keep error
handling minimal.

mm: provide vma_[flags_]is_cow_mapping() and remove is_cow_mapping()
All remaining callers of is_cow_mapping() are invoking it in the form of is_cow_mapping(vma->vm_flags) or an indirected version of this. Therefore, provide a helper - vma_is_cow_mapping() to directly test the VMA. Additionally provide a new helper vma_flags_is_cow_mapping() which performs the check using the new vma_flags_t type, and share this logic between vma_is_cow_mapping() and vma_desc_is_cow_mapping(). With these changes, no callers of is_cow_mapping() remain, so remove it. Also update the userland VMA tests to reflect the change. No functional change intended. s390 updates for 7.3 merge window
- Add a cpuidle driver with polling and enabled wait states using the existing CPU idle infrastructure and idle governor to improve latency for frequent sleep/wakeup cycles. Remove the obsolete tick delay heuristic and generic arch_needs_cpu() hook. Add the corresponding driver entry to MAINTAINERS - Add kCFI support using the generic support provided by Clang - Enable Clang CONTEXT_ANALYSIS for various architecture code and for char, PCI, CIO and virtio drivers. Add required lock annotations, exclude unsupported mm helpers and remove conditional PCI locking - Fix secure storage access exception handling and reintroduce DCACHE_WORD_ACCESS previously removed as a workaround - Fix cpum_cf perf crashes when CPUs are brought online while per-task events are active. Allocate and remove per-CPU counter data from CPU hotplug callbacks - Fix a deadlock when an s390dbf debug area is unregistered while one of its debugfs files is being written to - Fix MVIY_PERCPU() with binutils older than 2.39, where an assembler macro silently omitted an instruction needed to repair interrupted operations after CPU migration - Remove/replace cond_resched() calls which are no-ops with the supported s390 preemption models - Fix AP queue depth and maximum message length decoding according to the architecture. Current hardware is not affected, but future hardware could report values which were handled incorrectly - Reflect the configured CPU state in cpu_enabled_mask so deconfigured CPUs are not presented as available for onlining - Restore the vDSO GNU_EH_FRAME program header which was lost when the build switched to direct linker invocation, and mark it read-only - Add SCLP action qualifiers used by Spyre for card initialization, recoverable error and telemetry reporting - Move KMSAN interrupt flag helpers out of line to fix -Wstatic-in-inline build warnings - Use level-specific page table entry accessors for hugetlb entries and ptep_get() when accessing crashed kernel memory in kdump - Make forced AP bus rescans killable so that a user process blocked behind an ongoing scan can still be terminated with SIGKILL - Rework pkey ioctl error paths to remove duplicated cleanup code and avoid freeing error pointers - Allow the protected guest SWIOTLB buffer to be allocated outside the first 2GB. Also enable dynamic SWIOTLB growth and the coherent atomic pool fallback to improve I/O behavior when the initial pool is exhausted - Add program check statistics and spinlock contention tracepoints. s390/mm: Add __context_unsafe() attribute to gmap helper functions
Disable context analysis for various gmap helper functions to get rid of a few warnings: arch/s390/mm/gmap_helpers.c:80:1: warning: spinlock 'ptl' is not held on every path through here arch/s390/mm/gmap_helpers.c:116:2: warning: releasing spinlock 'ptl' that was not held arch/s390/mm/gmap_helpers.c:186:2: warning: releasing spinlock 'ptl' that was not held Use __context_unsafe() to give a short comment why for function context analysis is disabled. try_get_locked_pte() is disabled since it may return a nonull value regardless if it returns with a lock held or not. This cannot be reflected with the context analysis attributes. It is however possible to workaround this e.g. by adding a another `contended` function parameter, however this would lead to the next problem: pte_unmap_unlock() is a macro and therefore doesn't come with the required context analysis attribute to address this. For that reason also disable context analysis for gmap_helper_zap_one_page() and gmap_helper_try_set_pte_unused() until this has been addressed. s390/mm: Add __context_unsafe() attribute to do_secure_storage_access()
Compiling do_secure_storage_access() with context analysis enabled results in this warning: arch/s390/mm/fault.c:472:3: warning: releasing spinlock 'fw.ptl' that was not held 472 | folio_walk_end(&fw, vma); Problem is that folio_walk_end() comes without the required context analysis attribute. Also the proper attribute cannot be added easily, since folio_walk_end() is a macro, and not a function. For the time being disable context analysis only for do_secure_storage_access() until this is resolved. dma-direct: make dma_direct_map_phys() honor DMA_ATTR_CC_SHARED
Teach dma_direct_map_phys() to select the DMA address encoding based on DMA_ATTR_CC_SHARED. Use phys_to_dma_unencrypted() for decrypted mappings and phys_to_dma_encrypted() otherwise. If a device requires unencrypted DMA but the source physical address is still encrypted, force the mapping through swiotlb so the DMA address and backing memory attributes remain consistent. coco: arm64: s390: powerpc: Mark secure guests with CC_ATTR_GUEST_MEM_ENCRYPT
arm64 Realms, powerpc secure guests and s390 protected virtualization guests currently report CC_ATTR_MEM_ENCRYPT, but not CC_ATTR_GUEST_MEM_ENCRYPT. These environments are all secure guest configurations. Their force_dma_unencrypted() implementations also treat the same secure guest state as requiring unencrypted DMA. Report CC_ATTR_GUEST_MEM_ENCRYPT for the same condition so generic confidential-computing code can distinguish guest memory encryption from host memory encryption instead of relying only on CC_ATTR_MEM_ENCRYPT. s390/mm: Use handle_fault_error() in do_secure_storage_access()
Similar to the normal exception handler use handle_fault_error() which handles accesses from user space and kernel space differently. This also addresses failing kernel accesses via e.g. copy_from_user() to user space: instead of an endless loop, the fixup handling is performed. Even though this could only happen if arch_make_folio_accessible() would permanently fail, which is not realistic. Therefore this is rather a cleanup patch. s390/mm: Remove folio handling for kernel faults in do_secure_storage_access()
Remove folio handling for secure storage access exceptions that happen via the kernel mapping. Using folio_try_get() for exceptions via the kernel mapping is racy: for example such an exception may happen on one CPU, while a different CPU frees the corresponding page. Subsequently the page can be part of a folio of different size, before the faulting CPU executes folio_try_get(). This may lead to data corruption. As of now this scenario does not seem to be possible, however with the upcoming load_unaligned_zeropad() this is possible. As a side effect PG_arch_1 is not cleared anymore for such faults via the kernel mapping. However given that this bit is over-indicating it shouldn't matter. do_secure_storage_access() uses find_vma() without verifying that the faulting address is within the returned vma. Add this missing check by converting to lock_mm_and_find_vma(). s390/pv: Enable SWIOTLB_ANY for s390 PV
In s390 protected virtualization (PV) environments, guests use SWIOTLB for virtio DMA. Because SWIOTLB_ANY is currently not passed to swiotlb_init(), the SWIOTLB buffer is allocated from low memory, i.e. from the first 2G of the physical address space on s390. This restriction is unnecessary for s390 PV guests and limits the available address range for the SWIOTLB buffer. In turn, that can limit the maximum practical SWIOTLB size and make larger allocations more likely to fail at boot, especially under memory fragmentation. Pass SWIOTLB_ANY in pv_init() so the SWIOTLB buffer can be allocated from any suitable memory instead of being restricted to low memory. s390/mm: Use set_pmd() / set_pud() for hugetlb pagetable entries
hugetlb code is known to view all pagetable entries as PTEs, instead of corresponding upper levels like PMD or PUD. For s390, with different pagetable entry layout for different levels, this requires some conversion action under the hood. The converted PMD and PUD entries are then written via set_pte() function, but that might add some PTE-specific modifications. There is no functional problem with current code, and the clearing of _PAGE_UNUSED in set_pte(). Avoid future problems by using the set_pmd() and set_pud() functions instead. s390/mm: Fix handling of _PAGE_UNUSED pte bit
The _PAGE_UNUSED softbit should not really be lying around. Its sole
purpose is to signal to try_to_unmap_one() and try_to_migrate_one()
that the page can be discarded instead of being moved / swapped.
KVM has no way to know why a page is being unmapped, so it sets the bit
on userspace ptes corresponding to unused guest pages every time they
get unmapped. KVM has no reasonable way to clear the bit once the page
is in use again.
While set_ptes() checks and clears the bit, other paths that set new
ptes did not. This led to used pages being thrown out as if they were
unused, causing guest corruption.
Fix the issue by clearing the _PAGE_UNUSED bit for present ptes in
set_pte(), i.e. whenever a present pte is getting set. The check in
set_ptes() is then redundant and can be removed.
Also fix gmap_helper_try_set_pte_unused() to only set the bit if the
pte is present; the _PAGE_UNUSED bit is only defined for present ptes
and thus should not be set for non-present ptes.

- The 3 patch series "mm: Free contiguous order-0 pages efficiently"
from Ryan Roberts speeds up the freeing of a batch of 0-order pages by
first scanning them for coalescing opportunities. This is applicable to
vfree() and to the releasing of frozen pages.
- The 11 patch series "mm/damon: introduce DAMOS failed region quota
charge ratio" from SeongJae Park addresses a DAMOS usability issue: The
DAMOS quota often exhausts prematurely because it charges for all memory
attempted, causing slow and inconsistent performance when actions fail
on unreclaimable memory.
To fix this, a new feature lets users set a smaller, flexible quota
charge ratio (via a numerator and denominator) for failed regions.
Since failed actions cause less overhead, reducing their quota cost
ensures more predictable and efficient DAMOS processing
- The 8 patch series "selftests/cgroup: improve zswap tests robustness
and support large page sizes" from Li Wang fixes various spurious
failures and improves the overall robustness of the cgroup zswap
selftests.
- The 3 patch series "fix MAP_DROPPABLE not supported errno" from
Anthony Yznaga fixes an issue in the mlock selftests on arm32.
- The 2 patch series "mm: huge_memory: clean up defrag sysfs with

optimization, mainly around incorrect page accounting and memmap
initialization in the DAX and memory hotplug paths. It also fixes
pageblock migratetype initialization and struct page initialization for
ZONE_DEVICE compound pages.
- The 4 patch series "mm/damon: repost non-hotfix reviewed patches in
damon/next tree" from is a sprinkle of unrelated minor bugfixes for
DAMON.
- The 3 patch series "mm: remove page_mapped()" from David Hildenbrand
remove this function from the tree, replacing it with folio_mapped().
- The 10 patch series "mm/damon: let DAMON be paused and resumed" from
SeongJae Park permits DAMON to be paused and resumed without losing its
current state.
- The 3 patch series "kasan: hw_tags: Disable tagging for stack and

removing its ineffective tagging of stacks and page tables.
- The 7 patch series "mm/damon/reclaim,lru_sort: monitor all system rams
by default" from SeongJae Park simplifies deployment on diverse hardware
like NUMA systems by updating DAMON_RECLAIM and DAMON_LRU_SORT to
automatically monitor the physical address range covering all System RAM
areas by default, replacing the overly restrictive behavior that only
targeted the single largest memory block to save on negligible overhead.
- The 2 patch series "mm/damon/sysfs: document filters/ directory as

Merge tag 'mm-stable-2026-06-18-09-26' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/akpm/mm
Pull MM updates from Andrew Morton:
- "selftests/mm: clean up build output and verbosity" (Li Wang)
Remove some noise from the MM selftests build
- "mm: Free contiguous order-0 pages efficiently" (Ryan Roberts)
Speed up the freeing of a batch of 0-order pages by first scanning
them for coalescing opportunities. This is applicable to vfree() and
to the releasing of frozen pages
- "mm/damon: introduce DAMOS failed region quota charge ratio"
(SeongJae Park)
Address a DAMOS usability issue: The DAMOS quota often exhausts
prematurely because it charges for all memory attempted, causing slow
and inconsistent performance when actions fail on unreclaimable
memory.
To fix this, a new feature lets users set a smaller, flexible quota
charge ratio (via a numerator and denominator) for failed regions.
Since failed actions cause less overhead, reducing their quota cost
ensures more predictable and efficient DAMOS processing
- "selftests/cgroup: improve zswap tests robustness and support large
page sizes" (Li Wang)
Fix various spurious failures and improves the overall robustness of
the cgroup zswap selftests
- "fix MAP_DROPPABLE not supported errno" (Anthony Yznaga)
Fix an issue in the mlock selftests on arm32
- "mm: huge_memory: clean up defrag sysfs with shared" (Breno Leitao)
Some maintenance work in the huge_memory code
- "treewide: fixup gfp_t printks" (Brendan Jackman)
Use the special vprintf() gfp_t conversion in various places
- "mm: Fix vmemmap optimization accounting and initialization" (Muchun
Song)
Fix several bugs in the vmemmap optimization, mainly around incorrect
page accounting and memmap initialization in the DAX and memory
hotplug paths. It also fixes pageblock migratetype initialization and
struct page initialization for ZONE_DEVICE compound pages

Usama Anjum)
Simplify and speed up kasan by removing its ineffective tagging of
stacks and page tables
- "mm/damon/reclaim,lru_sort: monitor all system rams by default"
(SeongJae Park)
Simplify deployment on diverse hardware like NUMA systems by updating

replacing the overly restrictive behavior that only targeted the
single largest memory block to save on negligible overhead
- "mm/damon/sysfs: document filters/ directory as deprecated" (SeongJae
Park)
Update some DAMON docs
- "mm: use spinlock guards for zone lock" (Dmitry Ilvokhin)
Switch zone->lock handling over to using the guard() mechanisms
- "mm/filemap: tighten mmap_miss hit accounting" (fujunjie)
Fix a flaw where the mmap_miss counter over-credited page cache hits
during fault-arounds and page-fault retries. This results in
significant reduction of redundant synchronous mmap readahead I/O,
drastically cutting down execution time and gigabytes read for sparse
random or strided memory access workloads
- "selftests/cgroup: Fix false positive failures in test_percpu_basic"
(Li Wang)
Fix a couple of false-positives in the cgroup kmem selftests

Hildenbrand)
Reduce our use of CONFIG_HAVE_BOOTMEM_INFO_NODE, with a view to
removing it entirely in a later series
- "mm/damon: validate min_region_size to be power of 2" (Liew Rui Yan)

Arm:
"This is a bit of an odd merge window on the KVM/arm64 front. There is
absolutely no new feature in the pull request. It is purely fixes,
because it is simply becoming too hard to review new stuff when so
many AI-fuelled fixes hit the list".
- Significant cleanup of the vgic-v5 PPI support which was merged in
7.1. This makes the code more maintainable, and squashes a couple
of bugs in the meantime.
- Set of fixes for the handling of the MMU in an NV context,
particularly VNCR-triggered faults. S1POE support is fixed
as well.
- Large set of pKVM fixes, mostly addressing recurring issues
around hypervisor tracking of donated pages in obscure cases
where the donation could fail and leave things in a bizarre
state.
- Fixes for the so-called "lazy vgic init", which resulted in
sleeping operations in non-preemptible sections. This turned
out to be far more invasive than initially expected...
- Reduce the overhead of L1/L2 context switch by not touching
the FP registers.
- Fix the way non-implemented page sizes are dealt with when
a guest insist on using them for S2 translation.
- The usual set of low-impact fixes and cleanups all over the map.
Loongarch:
- On a request for lazy FPU load, load all FPU state that the VM
supports instead of enabling only the part (FPU, LSX or LASX)
that caused the FPU load request.
- Some enhancements about interrupt injection.
- Some bug fixes and other small changes.
RISC-V:
- Batch G-stage TLB flushes for GPA range based page table updates
- Convert HGEI line management to fully per-HART
- Fix missing CSR dirty marking when FWFT state updated via ONE_REG
- Fix stale FWFT feature exposure to Guest/VM
- Speed up dirty logging write faults using MMU rwlock and atomic
PTE updates using cmpxchg() for permission-only changes
- Use flexible array for APLIC IRQ state
- Use kvm_slot_dirty_track_enabled() for logging enable check on
a memslot
- Avoid skipping valid pages in kvm_riscv_gstage_wp_range()
- Avoid skipping valid pages in kvm_riscv_gstage_unmap_range()
- Use endian-specific __lelong for NACL shared memory
S390:
- KVM_PRE_FAULT_MEMORY support
- Support for 2G hugepages
- Support for the ASTFLEIE 2 facility
- Support for fast inject using kvm_arch_set_irq_inatomic
- Fix potential leak of uninitialized bytes
- A few more misc gmap fixes.
x86:
- Generic support for the more granular permissions allowed by EPT,
namely "read" (which was previously usurping the U bit) and
separate execution bits for kernel and userspace.
- Do not assume that all page tables start with U=1/W=1/NX=0 at the
root, as AMD GMET needs to have U=0 at the root.
- Introduce common assembly macros for use within Intel and AMD
vendor-specific vmentry code. This touches the SPEC_CTRL handling,
which is now entirely done in assembly for Intel (by reusing the
AMD code that already existed), and register save/restore which
uses some macro magic to compute the offsets in the struct. Both
of these are preparatory changes for upcoming APX support.
- Clean up KVM's register tracking and storage, primarily to prepare for
APX support, which expands the maximum number of GPRs from 16 to 32.
- Keep a single copy of the PDPTRs rather than two, since architecturally
there is just one.
- Handle EXIT_FASTPATH_EXIT_USERSPACE in vendor code to ensure vendor code
gets a chance to handle things like reaping the PML buffer.
- Update KVM's view of PV async enabling if and only if the MSR write fully
succeeds.
- Fix a variety of issues where the emulator doesn't honor guest-debug state,
and clean up related code along the way.
- Synthesize EPT Violation and #NPF "error code" bits when injecting faults
into L1 that didn't originate in hardware (in which case the VMCS/VMCB
doesn't hold relevant information).
- Add support for virtualizing (well, emulating) AMD's flavor of CPL>0 CPUID
faulting.
- Clean up the GPR APIs so that KVM's use of "raw" is consistent, and fix a
variety of minor bugs along the way.
- Fix an OOB memory access due to not checking the VP ID when handling a
Hyper-V PV TLB flush for L2.
- Fix a bug in the mediated PMU's handling of fixed counters that allowed the
guest to bypass the PMU event filter.
- Allow userspace to return EAGAIN when handling SNP and TDX hypercalls, so
the KVM can forward a "retry" status code to the guest, and reserve all
unused error codes for future usage.
- Overhaul the TDP MMU => S-EPT code to move as much S-EPT specific logic as
possible into the TDX code, and to funnel (almost) all S-EPT updates into
a single chokepoint. The motivation is largely to prepare for upcoming
Dynamic PAMT support, but the cleanups are nice to have on their own.
- Plug a hole in shadow page table handling, where KVM fails to recursively
zap nested EPT/NPT shadow page tables when the nested hypervisor tears
down its own EPT/NPT page tables from the bottom up
x86 (Intel):
- Support for nested MBEC (Mode-Based Execute Control), see above in the
generic section; also run with MBEC enabled even for non-nested mode.
- Use the kernel's "enum pg_level" in the TDX APIs instead of the TDX-Module's
level definitions (which are 0-based).
- Rework the TDX memory APIs to not require/assume that guest memory is
backed by "struct page" (in prepartion for guest_memfd hugepage support).
- Fix a largely benign bug where KVM TDX would incorrectly state it could
emulate several x2APIC MSRs.
- Use the "safe" WRMSR API when proxying LBR MSR writes as the to-be-written
value is guest controlled and completely unvalidated.
x86 (AMD):
- Support for nested GMET (Guest Mode Execution Trap), see above in the
generic section; also run with GMET enabled even for non-nested mode.
- Fixes and minor cleanups to GHCB handling, on top of the earlier work
already merged into 7.1-rc.
- Ensure KVM's copy of CR0 and CR3 are up-to-date prior to invoking
fastpath handlers.
- Add support for virtualizing gPAT (KVM previously just used L1's PAT when
running L2).
- Fix goofs where KVM mishandles side effects (e.g. single-step and PMC
updates) when emulating VMRUN.
- Fix a variety of bugs in AVIC's handling of x2APIC MSR interception, most
notably where KVM didn't disable interception of IRR, ISR, and TMR regs.
- Add support for virtualizing Host-Only/Guest-Only bits in the mediated PMU.
- Don't advertise support for unusable VM types, and account for VM types
that are disabled by firmware, e.g. to mitigate security vulnerabilities.
- Rewrite the SEV {en,de}crypt debug ioctls as they were riddle with bugs and
unnecessarily complicated, and add comprehensive tests.
- Clean up and deduplicate the SEV page pinning code.
- Fix minor goofs related to writing back CPUID information after firmware
rejects a CPUID page for an SNP vCPU.
Generic:
- Rename invalidate_begin() to invalidate_start() throughout KVM to follow
the kernel's nomenclature, e.g. for mmu_notifiers.
- Use guard() to cleanup up various KVM+VFIO flows.
- Minor cleanups.
guest_memfd:
- Return -EEXIST instead of -EINVAL if userspace attempts to bind a gmem
range to multiple memslots, and fix the test that was supposed to ensure
KVM returns -EEXIST.
- Treat memslot binding offsets and sizes as unsigned values to fix a bug
where KVM interprets a large "offset + size" as a negative value and allows
a nonsensical offset.
- Use the inode number instead of the page offset for the NUMA interleaving
index to fix a bug where the effective index would jump by two for
consecutive pages (the caller also adds in the page offset).
Selftests:
- Randomize the dirty log test's delay when reaping the bitmap on the first
pass, as always waiting only 1ms hid a KVM RISC-V bug as the test reaped the
bitmap before KVM could build up enough state to hit the bug.
- A pile of one-off fixes and cleanups.

PMC updates) when emulating VMRUN
- Fix a variety of bugs in AVIC's handling of x2APIC MSR

Generic:
- Rename invalidate_begin() to invalidate_start() throughout KVM to
follow the kernel's nomenclature, e.g. for mmu_notifiers
- Use guard() to cleanup up various KVM+VFIO flows
- Minor cleanups
guest_memfd:
- Return -EEXIST instead of -EINVAL if userspace attempts to bind a
gmem range to multiple memslots, and fix the test that was supposed
to ensure KVM returns -EEXIST
- Treat memslot binding offsets and sizes as unsigned values to fix a
bug where KVM interprets a large "offset + size" as a negative
value and allows a nonsensical offset
- Use the inode number instead of the page offset for the NUMA
interleaving index to fix a bug where the effective index would
jump by two for consecutive pages (the caller also adds in the page
offset)
Selftests:
- Randomize the dirty log test's delay when reaping the bitmap on the
first pass, as always waiting only 1ms hid a KVM RISC-V bug as the
test reaped the bitmap before KVM could build up enough state to
hit the bug
- A pile of one-off fixes and cleanups"

s390: Revert support for DCACHE_WORD_ACCESS
load_unaligned_zeropad() reads eight bytes from unaligned addresses and may cross page boundaries. It handles exceptions which may happen if reading from the second page results in an exception. For pages which are donated to the Ultravisor for secure execution purposes the do_secure_storage_access() exception handler however does not handle such exceptions correctly. Such an exception may result in an endless exception loop which will never be resolved. An attempt to fix this [1] turned out to be not sufficient. For now revert load_unaligned_zeropad() until this problem has been resolved in a proper way. Note that the implementation of load_unaligned_zeropad() itself is correct. The revert is just a temporary workaround until there is complete fix for secure storage access exceptions. [1] commit |

s390/mm: use free_reserved_page() in vmem_free_pages()
We never select CONFIG_HAVE_BOOTMEM_INFO_NODE on s390. Therefore, free_bootmem_page() nowadays always translates to free_reserved_page(). Let's use free_reserved_page() to replace the free_bootmem_page() loop. We can stop including bootmem_info.h. Likely, vmemmap freeing code could be factored out into the core in the future. KVM: s390: Remove ptep_zap_softleaf_entry()
Migration entries do not need to be removed.
The swap subsystem has been (and still is being) heavily reworked. The
current implementation of ptep_zap_softleaf_entry() has been slowly
modified and is now wrong, since it unconditionally calls
swap_put_entries_direct() for both swap and migration entries.
Remove ptep_zap_softleaf_entry() altogether, merge the path for proper
swap entries directly in the only caller, and ignore migration entries.

KVM: s390: Avoid potentially sleeping while atomic when zapping pages
Factor out try_get_locked_pte(), which behaves similarly to
get_locked_pte(), but does not attempt to allocate missing tables and
performs a spin_trylock() instead of blocking.
The new function is also exported, since it will be used in other
patches.
If intermediate entries are missing, there can be no pte swap entry to
free, so it's safe to ignore them.
This avoids potentially sleeping while atomic.

mm/sparse-vmemmap: pass @pgmap argument to memory deactivation paths
Currently, the memory hot-remove call chain -- arch_remove_memory(), __remove_pages(), sparse_remove_section() and section_deactivate() -- does not carry the struct dev_pagemap pointer. This prevents the lower levels from knowing whether the section was originally populated with vmemmap optimizations (e.g., DAX with vmemmap optimization enabled). Without this information, we cannot call vmemmap_can_optimize() to determine if the vmemmap pages were optimized. As a result, the vmemmap page accounting during teardown will mistakenly assume a non-optimized allocation, leading to incorrect memmap statistics. To lay the groundwork for fixing the vmemmap page accounting, we need to pass the @pgmap pointer down to the deactivation location. Plumb the @pgmap argument through the APIs of arch_remove_memory(), __remove_pages() and sparse_remove_section(), mirroring the corresponding *_activate() paths. mm: cache struct page for empty_zero_page and return it from ZERO_PAGE()
For most architectures every invocation of ZERO_PAGE() does virt_to_page(empty_zero_page). But empty_zero_page is in BSS and it is enough to get its struct page once at initialization time and then use it whenever a zero page should be accessed. Add yet another __zero_page variable that will be initialized as virt_to_page(empty_zero_page) for most architectures in a weak arch_setup_zero_pages() function. For architectures that use colored zero pages (MIPS and s390) rename their setup_zero_pages() to arch_setup_zero_pages() and make it global rather than static. For architectures that cannot use virt_to_page() for BSS (arm64 and sparc64) add override of arch_setup_zero_pages(). s390/mm: Add missing secure storage access fixups for donated memory
There are special cases where secure storage access exceptions happen
in a kernel context for pages that don't have the PG_arch_1 bit
set. That bit is set for non-exported guest secure storage (memory)
but is absent on storage donated to the Ultravisor since the kernel
isn't allowed to export donated pages.
Prior to this patch we would try to export the page by calling
arch_make_folio_accessible() which would instantly return since the
arch bit is absent signifying that the page was already exported and
no further action is necessary. This leads to secure storage access
exception loops which can never be resolved.
With this patch we unconditionally try to export and if that fails we
fixup.

s390/pfault: Fix virtual vs physical address confusion
When Linux is running as guest, runs a user space process and the
user space process accesses a page that the host has paged out,
the guest gets a pfault interrupt and schedules a different process.
Without this mechanism the host would have to suspend the whole
virtual CPU until the page has been paged in.
To setup the pfault interrupt the real address of parameter list
should be passed to DIAGNOSE 0x258, but a virtual address is passed
instead.
That has a performance impact, since the pfault setup never succeeds,
the interrupt is never delivered to a guest and the whole virtual CPU
is suspended as result.

Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argument
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar types
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) (where TYPE may also be *VAR) The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning "TYPE *". Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <kees@kernel.org> |

Loongarch:
- Add more CPUCFG mask bits. - Improve feature detection. - Add lazy load support for FPU and binary translation (LBT) register state. - Fix return value for memory reads from and writes to in-kernel devices. - Add support for detecting preemption from within a guest. - Add KVM steal time test case to tools/selftests. ARM: - Add support for FEAT_IDST, allowing ID registers that are not implemented to be reported as a normal trap rather than as an UNDEF exception. - Add sanitisation of the VTCR_EL2 register, fixing a number of UXN/PXN/XN bugs in the process. - Full handling of RESx bits, instead of only RES0, and resulting in SCTLR_EL2 being added to the list of sanitised registers. - More pKVM fixes for features that are not supposed to be exposed to guests. - Make sure that MTE being disabled on the pKVM host doesn't give it the ability to attack the hypervisor. - Allow pKVM's host stage-2 mappings to use the Force Write Back version of the memory attributes by using the "pass-through' encoding. - Fix trapping of ICC_DIR_EL1 on GICv5 hosts emulating GICv3 for the guest. - Preliminary work for guest GICv5 support. - A bunch of debugfs fixes, removing pointless custom iterators stored in guest data structures. - A small set of FPSIMD cleanups. - Selftest fixes addressing the incorrect alignment of page allocation. - Other assorted low-impact fixes and spelling fixes. RISC-V: - Fixes for issues discoverd by KVM API fuzzing in kvm_riscv_aia_imsic_has_attr(), kvm_riscv_aia_imsic_rw_attr(), and kvm_riscv_vcpu_aia_imsic_update() - Allow Zalasr, Zilsd and Zclsd extensions for Guest/VM - Transparent huge page support for hypervisor page tables - Adjust the number of available guest irq files based on MMIO register sizes found in the device tree or the ACPI tables - Add RISC-V specific paging modes to KVM selftests - Detect paging mode at runtime for selftests s390: - Performance improvement for vSIE (aka nested virtualization) - Completely new memory management. s390 was a special snowflake that enlisted help from the architecture's page table management to build hypervisor page tables, in particular enabling sharing the last level of page tables. This however was a lot of code (~3K lines) in order to support KVM, and also blocked several features. The biggest advantages is that the page size of userspace is completely independent of the page size used by the guest: userspace can mix normal pages, THPs and hugetlbfs as it sees fit, and in fact transparent hugepages were not possible before. It's also now possible to have nested guests and guests with huge pages running on the same host. - Maintainership change for s390 vfio-pci - Small quality of life improvement for protected guests x86: - Add support for giving the guest full ownership of PMU hardware (contexted switched around the fastpath run loop) and allowing direct access to data MSRs and PMCs (restricted by the vPMU model). KVM still intercepts access to control registers, e.g. to enforce event filtering and to prevent the guest from profiling sensitive host state. This is more accurate, since it has no risk of contention and thus dropped events, and also has significantly less overhead. For more information, see the commit message for merge commit |
